1-0 out of 5 stars Reviewer:Fred Dickmann -"70 Ounces Of Gold"
I am extremely disappointed with this CD. This piece is misrepresented on the cover as containing "the original tracks",but only two or three cuts are the original recordings. If you're into RE-RECORDINGS, you will accept this album-otherwise don't waste your time. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great CD! All original hit recordings!
If you're one of those people who is going mad trying to replace your 50s and 60s 45s on CD compilations, here's a good place to start. All the recordings on this two volume series are the ORIGINAL hit recordings-not rerecordings, and the sound quality is excellent. In case you're familiar with the "American Grafitti" soundtrack, and hate the fact that Wolfman Jack's voice is dubbed OVER some of the classic cuts, fear not. His voice has been added IN BETWEEN cuts on this CD. So although track one, for instance, may have a little shout out by Wolfman Jack at the beginning, the song itself begins and ends clean. And his voice is only added before about three or four tracks. Regardless, this is a great little compilation, and I hope DDC intends to release more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll get 'Whiplash' 'Shakin' yer 'Wang Dand Dula'!
... but you'll love every minute of it! I have owned a copy of this disc, in one form or another (it was originally a vinyl release with many fewer songs), since 1990 and I'm gettin' another CD to put in a hermetically sealed, radio-active proof, sub-terranian capsule (along with CD player and batteries), so there'll always be a copy around to play! I am not one for compilations and own very few of them but this is the exception to make. I'm not sure what to compare it to and perhaps that exercise is pointless anyway. Suffice it to say it's pure unadulterated slabs of kick @ss rock 'n soul! Some of the songs are really funny, some dated, some just wail hard, but none are really bad, no duds in the bunch and there are over 28 of 'em! How can you go wrong for [price]?!

5-0 out of 5 stars It Rocks, It Rolls, It really gets down!
What we have here is a collection of Hard Core R&B from places like Chicago and Detroit, Rocking Rhythm and Blues of the type not heard since the 60's and not likely to appear on your Drive Time Gold Radio Station. The Five Du Tones "Chicken Astronaut" is funny and it rocks, "Welfare Cheese" by Emmanuel Laskey is a topical tune that still has meaning today, and all of it gets the groove on without a slowie in sight. An archeological record of what R&B and Soul sounded like before everything got all smoothed out and watered down. I really think you will like this! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars WORST soundtrack ever
this has to be the worst soundtrack ever. most of mtv's soundtracks aren't very good, but this is the worst. i highly reccomend you NOT waste your money on this, even if your a fan of the show like i am.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Soundtrack SUCKS!!!
The song "Heckler" by primus is the only good song on this soundtrack! But if you want that song buy Primus's album "Suck on this" and you'll get other good songs along with it, rather than a bunch of [stuff] that you'll never listen to. There isn't much you can say about this soundtrack, so I will leave the rest up to your imagination.

2-0 out of 5 stars A disappointing soundtrack
I've always been a fan of Celebrity Deathmatch since I first saw it on MTV. Being a longtime fan of the show, I was expecting the soundtrack to be great. I couldn't have been more wrong. It's the worst soundtrack I've ever heard. I only like 2 or 3 of the songs, that's why I didn't give it only 1 star. Some of the songs are rock, but most of it is rap. Instead of just making a bunch of songs that aren't that good, they could've made some tracks that are mainly sounds or sound effects from the show. Most of the songs don't even sound like they pertain to Celebrity Deathmatch, especially "Vampire."

If you like good soundtracks, don't get this one. It's one of the biggest disappointments I've ever witnessed.

1-0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTLY HORRIBLE
Absolutly wretched excuse for a cd! It's edited! what is up with that? I shelled out my cash for something that's edited...and the remixes are horrible! The only decent song is the Manson song and it's edited! I don't wish to pay money for something censored...i want the real thing, baby! And it has violent images in the cd cover!I suggest watching SOUTH PARK BIGGER LONGER AND UNCUT to see that they believe "deplorible violence is ok,just don't say any naughty words!"

1-0 out of 5 stars This is a Horrible CD!
I thought this would be a great soundtrack because of the artists. It has Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Powerman 5000, Eminem, Lit, and more. I went to the store and payed way too much for and took it home. Besides the Manson track, the rest of this CD is horrible. The new songs have no time put into them and the rest are last-minute remixes. Another thing that disturbed me is that the whole CD is edited! If I buy a CD i want the straight-up version. They dont even give you a warning or notice that the tracks are butchered. This whole soundtrack is a disgrace to rock and rap both. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware of 'New Stereo Recordings'
This collection is largely made up of the dreaded "new stereo recordings" and NOT the takes that are the classics we rever.I don't know what sort of record industry shenannigans this reveals, but it wouldmake a good atory.

4-0 out of 5 stars Seemingly plain collection of old tunes a sleeper dandy
The first time you listen to this CD you'll probably dismiss it as a catchy collection of old rock tunes, release timed by K-Tel to be "retro-cool" so they'll, like, play it on Old Wave night.

Checkthis CD out, though. You have to put the disc on "repeat" totruly appreciate it's power. Come home after a night of heavy eating anddrinking and listen to it five, six times. You'll see that, instead ofgetting old, these tunes seem to get better every time you listen to them.Which, of course, is why CDs released in 1997 still have songs like"Wipeout" on them.

The power of this CD is demonstrated by thefact that the bizarre late-night, public access TV home auction network"Rarities Exchange.com" uses this CD as their "housemusic," playing it over and over for ten droning hours, six days aweek, asRarities tries in vain to auction chunks of amber, old jewelry,or debris from violent NASCAR wrecks. The show may get old, but the musicnever does. You can _sleep_ to this stuff. Or it'll wake you up, if that'swhat you want.

Now you can have this music in your home or car, if you dolike I'm about to do, and buy this CD. It may not jump out at you as greatinspiration. But like the trilobyte fossils and Dale Earnhardt magnets onRarities, you find that it is a Good Buy. Call in, folks! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent selection of songs by female singers
As is apparent from the listing above, this CD is a selection of songs from many of the leading female singers of the 80s and 90s. (A few odd absences include the Go-Gos, Olivia Newton-John, Scandal, Stevie Nicks, and Blondie, especially considering that less commercially-successful artists such as Michelle Shocked, Vonda Shephard, and Belly are featured.)

The appeal of a compilation CD is that you can get songs by "one-hit wonders" without having to shell out for a bunch of lame songs. Obviously, this depends on your individual tastes, but, for example, "Kiss Me Deadly" is the only Lita Ford song I've heard that I've liked, and not enough to get an entire Ford album.

A few other oddities: "The French Song" by Joan Jett rather than "I Love Rock and Roll;" "She-Bop" by Cyndi Lauper rather than "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."

The CD liner contains some small pictures of the artists (but no identifying caption for any of them) and background text about the artists. However, some of the artists are covered in literally one throw-away sentence, so this is not a place to learn a lot about the singers. ... Read more
