5-0 out of 5 stars We should all ask!
1st time I heard this song, I just sat mesmerized at the end of the seat. A truly great beat, and how could someone be so eloquent in their description of the state of the world. The second time, a tear welled as I understood the true depth of their insite. This is truly a great song, if for no other reason it makes you think - where is the love?

5-0 out of 5 stars what a hit on my list
i love the song where is the love because it has meaning and talks about the issues. even though it has jt in it that doesn't mean it is a bad song. i rate this a 10/10 . it is an awesome song. you can beleive me or you can ignore me. i know it's true. and it's a trully great song . i love it. 10*stars definately

3-0 out of 5 stars could it be?
"Where is the Love" is a good song, but I keep thinking that hearing parts of the melody from the song "Torn" (as made popular by Natalie Imbruglia) in the chorus part of the song...Does anyone else hear this..?.

4-0 out of 5 stars where is the love
sexier, full passionated, power full, im really love this song. Makes me remember for someone.

4-0 out of 5 stars one good song
I usually hate rap, but then I was listening to my friend's copy of now 14 and heard this song. The lyrics are true, and well, if it's not sincere for them, it is for me. I mean, lines like "Would you practice what you preach and would you turn the other cheek?" (bible reference, I'm pretty sure.) and "a war is going on but the reason's undercover." It's a great song, and I would've given this CD a 5 if they didn't have the other songs. But I had to buy the single for Where is the Love. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT
I am 15 years old and I jam skate. This CD is awesome all of the songs are up beat and we are able to make moves to anything that is on that CD. Egypt, Egypt would definatly have to be my favorite.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost a Five
This is his best CD yet! It has a continuous mix of all his greatest hits with new flavors added in. The only reason it is not a five is because it too closely resembles his Greatest Hits CD. The music continues to be bumpin' and I plan to use it at my next party because the hypnotic rhythm is nonstop. It is quite obvious from listening to this CD that The Egyptian Lover is adjusting to the signs of the times. I foresee that the Egyptian Lover's music will last as long as the pyramids! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars HERE COME THE HORNS
THIS IS THE BEST CD THEY EVER MADE. THE FIRST CD WHAS VERY GOOD, AND THE THIRTH CD WHAS ALSO VERY GOOD. BUT THE SECOND ONE BEATS BOTH CD'S. THE MEXICAN FLAFOUR IS SO GREAT YOU CANNOT STOP LISTENING THIS CD. A MUST FOR YOUR COLLECTION. I HAVE ONE THING TO SAY, BUY IT!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars 'HORNS IN THE HEAD!!!"...Cypress who????
Out doing their debut album, the tres delinquentes have made them selves one of the best latin hip hop groups I've ever heard. Loud records made a huge mistake by letting these guys get away(after this). With there lyrical flows and horn samples blaring all the guests (Sen dog of Cypress Hill, Beatnuts, and Big Pun) are eclipsed" You will definitely love this album...a classic!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars latin funk!
the delinquent habits are one of the best unknown groups around and thats the way the real fans will like it to stay.they combine hip hop with trumpets, maracas, horns, and some mariachi sounds.sen dog of cypress hill took this group under his wings for this album and he did a god job.delinquent habits are in the cypress hill family but with their own funky sound that doesnt dissapoint.all tracks on this album are good especially"western ways 2" which features big pun and juju of the beatnuts.one of the best hip hop albums out there.undiscovered gem.

5-0 out of 5 stars The mexican/Hip Hop combination is the best yet
I fell in love with the first CD Delinquent habits because of the song tres delinquentes. that song and Good Times really hit home. I like it cause youz guyz sound like its from the heart. I also like the way the Bass hits in my car which is a 79 lincon Town Coupe Lowrider. It takes a lot to pound that car and you music does it no problem on two eighteens

5-0 out of 5 stars Frost's strongest album
Okay, Frost must have, what, like seven albums by now? This is the hottest of all of them. That's not to say that he hasn't grown as an artist, because he has. But East Side Story gives you joint after joint, bam, firme rola tras firme rola, this record is no joke. The order of the songs makes a sort of a story--a lot of rappers try to make a movie or whatever, but Frost pulls it off. (Check the movie reference of the title and the little story he makes with the song titles on the back of the record jacket.) The only complaint I have about Frost is that he doesn't kick that many raps in Spanish, sino prefiere meter una suerte de Spanglish en la letra de todas sus canciones, pero hey, si así es como habla el vato, quién soy yo para quejarme. Pase lo que pase tiene skills. You're not likely to mix up his voice with that of some other rapper. Fuhgeddaboudit.

3-0 out of 5 stars True story
Kid Frost the first latino gangsta rapper is always keepin' it real for la raza and this album is a true story of a mexicans life on the eastside of L.A

5-0 out of 5 stars This album is Ragooey (super-saucy)
Stoopid Doo-Doo Dumb" will go down in history as a seminal album in the history of not just rap music, but popular music as a whole. Mac Dre is a true renessaince man, carefully balancing dual careers as a highly-gifted musician and a bank robber. I would be damn suprised if he doesn't beat that "babbie" (see album insert) Eric Clapton at thew Grammys this year. 3-0 out of 5 stars Dope.
This disc probably isn't that essential, but for the fanatic it's a must. It's a pretty solid mix of stuff. "24 With An L" is good, and I really like "My Skin Is My Sin". But this also has some sweet remixes. "I Was A Good Day" is different but good, and my favorite is "U Ain't Gonna Take My Life", which has great lyrics, and samples the Chili Peppers "Sir Psycho Sexy", and En Vogue's "Never Gonna Get It". The last track is a sweet continuous mix of many of "Cubes" past hits. If you're a fan of his early 90's stuff, check out "Bootlegs & B-Sides".

5-0 out of 5 stars Cube brings up important issues in his raps
Ice Cube's 'Bootlegs and B-sides' may be considered slow in part because it doesn't have all the slick rhymes and trash talk attitude heard so much on MTV recently; but Ice Cube is one of the greatest rappers alive because of his lyrical content. He raps about racism from cops, street violence, and making it to heaven. He makes it clear that his mind is not set on making money anyway he can; I would definitely categorize him with Tupac.
WESTSIDE FOR LIFE, BABY!

5-0 out of 5 stars A good mix of old and new songs for the extreme Cube fans
This album is a nice mix of some new previously unreleased tracks and some remixes of old tracks, but nothing special. As the case with most remixes, the originals are better, and the new songs aren't that great. Unless you are a die hard Cube fan or see this for an incredibly low price, it's probably not worth buying. Best track: "It Was a Good Day remix"

4-0 out of 5 stars ICE CUBE:BOOTLEGS AND B-SIDES

4-0 out of 5 stars Underground Hip-Hop For The Masses
This EP is a preview for the full-length album "Nia" by Blackalicious. It contains seven tracks, four of which are present on "Nia". The three exclusive tracks are good. One of them, "Alphabetic Aerobics", is excellent. Here, rapper The Gift of Gab shows off his rapid-fire delivery in verses for each letter of the alphabet. The song gets faster and faster as he progresses through the letters. "A2G" is a similar workout in consonance, but with slower delivery and only the letters A through G. "Back to the Essence" features guest rapper Lateef the Truth Speaker. "Deception" is the most structured song here. The lyrics are a narrative about a rapper who becomes seduced by wealth. It emphasizes, without direct reference, the underground roots and ideals that Blackalicious have stayed true to since their first EP "Melodica" was released in 1994 on Mo'Wax records. The beats provided by Chief Xcel are superb. Cut Chemist from Jurassic 5 produces "Alpahabetic Aerobics" and is easily overshadowed by the lyrics. Overall this is an awesome EP. If you like ather acts such as Jurassic 5 or Dilated Peoples you will dig this. Also check out their debut full-length album "Nia".

5-0 out of 5 stars marvalous
This CD is great. It's short, too short in fact, because the best way to listen to this CD is straight through. Blackalicous is a great duo, this CD is worth the money. Although not as good as Blackalicious' other albums, I personally can't get enough of them. I recommend this CD to anyone, even people who don't like rap. Just buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars short but sweet
This is an album that packs a punch. With only seven tracks you find yourself wanting a little more, but i found it easy letting the entire record run through more than once. They saved the best for last with the alphabet aerobics, turning the tables over to the cut chemist from j5 for the 2 1/2 minute workout. The gift of gab is amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hes Got The Gift
Blackalicious' EP effort is delightful and quite a good seque for mainstreamers to get into something a bit more underground. Im lucky enough to work for KDVS 90.3 fm and they were among the first to get "The Blazing Arrow" (Gab and Chief went to high school near me and both went to UC Davis). Gab will never cease to amaze me. His talent lyrically as well as with delivery puts him on the short list for best MC's in the scene today. Buy this and do yourself a favor.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars- Words Can't Describe It
I bought this CD after a close friend of mine told me about the amazing song Alphabet Aerobics. Buying this CD, I expected one good track and nothing else. I WAS DEAD WRONG!! This IS the most amazing CD I've ever listened to. Words can't descirbe it. Chief Xcel produces awsome beats and Gift of Gab is the second best MC in my opinion (behind KRS-One). Gab's rapid fire delivery and insightful, unbelievible (and clean) lyrics make him amazing to hear.

Alphabet Aerobics is an amazing song where Gab goes from A to Z in an alphabetical, alliterative rap. Back to the Essence has (in my opinion) a catchy hook to it that really is a head bobber. I could review every song, but EVERY ONE IS SUPERB! Not ONE weak track. If you want some real Hip-Hop with excelent beats and unbelievible, rapid-fire lyrics, PICK THIS UP!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Music fan or music idiot
Music fan knows nothing about music, and posts his big mouth crap on every rap album, no one listens to your review u hater, this moron never listend to any of the albums. On his outcast review of speakerbox he claims rap isnt music and to listen to something by nora jones, u2, cold play or radio head. Well moron look at the track on the outcast cd with nora jones on it. And if u listen to radiohead u will pick up on they use of the technique known as sampling. Your really an idiot if u sample music that u so call music and make a new song then isnt that music, grow up son and move on. Music is an ever changing art form if u want to talk music please tell me what u know about miles davis, mozart, chopin and why not throw in dj premier, the ugly duckling brings some tight music to a dead creative time in hip hop, the infamous gay-z is retireing, while ja rule is arguing with 50 cent who came out with a piece of garbage album that i wipe my butt with. Please all you all stop listening to commercial music its abolute trash with no heart soul or artistic input. And music fan try listening to music b4 your review it. You just dont like hip hop and wanna bash it. Well leave your comments to yourself because they are as useless as every song gay z ever wrote.

5-0 out of 5 stars Meat to the Shizake
Believe it or not, there was a time when hip-hop wasn't about how thugged out were. Or, how much Ice you rocked. As a long time Hip-Hop head, I remember those days well. It was fun, back then Biz was "Pickin' Buggers" The Fat Boys were "Crushin" Nobody was packing guns, 50-Cent would have been considered a "Wanksta" Between then, and now, a lot has changed. What's the last Hip-Hop album you remember buying that was free of foul langauge, and no, the "edited" version doesn't count sorry.
Ugly Duckling, take it back to those days, you won't like this album if you have to "keep it real" and want to hear about sex and voilence, there is simply none of that here. But if you want one of the truest, most original albums ever released, run out and pick this up. The album tells a story of a fast food chain "MeatShake" and their competition with the "Veggie Hut" which is across the street. It might sound, well dumb, but believe me it's not. This album is overflowing with personality and humor, and there are absolutly no curses.
The album starts on a high note, with Dizzy & Andy rappin about being an "Opening Act" and the crowd hating them, this is a funny track. And one point they call out "somebody say ho!" and get zero responce, repeated nothing, repeated, "you suck!" you can't help but smile at this track. Track #3 "MeatShake" you start to see how nutts this album is. Andy raps about the shake made from meat that their chain serves, the lyrics are original and witty, this is a hilarious track. They go on to "Dumb it Down" talking about how you gotta be extra simple to make it in todays market. This could be a diss to 50-Cent's (even tho it's not) UD's are anything but dumb. "The Drive-Thru" is possibly my favorite track, it has somebody in the "MeatShake" drive-thru, and Dizzy rapping the menu to the customer. And the dude is thrown off by everything "having meat in it" At one point
"(May a take your order?)/yeah my wife would like a shake/(ok, what flavor would you like, we got Chicken, Pork or Steak) huh?" You have to hear it to appericate it, because reading it just makes it sound stupid. I've listened to the album about 10 times since 4 days ago [when it came out] I still find myself smiling at the originality and humor packed thru it. The track ends with him insulting the customer because they don't want a meatshake and telling the "hippies" to go across the street to the "Veggie Hut" Which later leads into one of the funniest songs I've heard in a long time. "The Conferentation" Where Brianna from the "Veggie Hut" troops over to confront Dizzy about serving meat. "(What has an animal ever done to you?)/It filled me up... Hay save the attack/(I guess I just respect life)/I have it for a snack" Again, you must hear it to be able to appericate it. It's not stale, dumbed concepts here, it seems the humor works everywhere. Other standout tracks "Mr. Tough Guy" which calls out the people who act mean for no good reason (50-Cent's perhaps?) & "Potty Mouth" where they talk about people who cuss for no good reason.
The concept behind this album isn't good on it's own. It seems, well dumb. But, the lyrics are so original, and threw-out the album there are "skits" witn commericals and jingles for "MeatShake" But best of all, there's Young Einstien's production, which is beyond wonderful. It's so funky. A couple of the samples he uses sound like they were lifted straight from a 70's game show [a good thing] He ranks up there with Cut Chemist and Kut Masta Kurt when it comes to diggin in the crates and creating that classic sound.
I don't think I dislike any song on here, lyrics or production wise. And the throw back to classic hip-hop, without the cursing and voilence has me feeling like I was a kid again. Listening to a group who could be real, without fronting. It's nice to see a group that is comfortable enough to be themselves. They don't take themselves totally seriously, but they love Hip-Hop, and all 3 have immense talent. Shame that 50 will go on to be the biggest artist of the year. If there's some [any] justice in this world, the trio of Andy, Dizzy & Young Einstien will get some props for this incredible release. I'd love to see a Platinum Plack & a Grammy nod.

bottom line, BY IT! it's a fun album that is overflowing with humor, and with no objectional songs or lyrics. Parents will have no problem letting the little one listen to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars a call back to the golden age.
As most all else who have reviewed this have said, a hark back to the old days, with beats made from vinyls and not every other word needs to be bleeped. Definate influences of Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jurassic 5 and the like, and an age where hiphop had that air of freshness to it. The "meatshake" theme does get a little tired after a couple of listens, but the rest of the material more than makes up for this... The tracks inbetween the theme-based songs are not filler, but rather UD's look at modern music, basically calling it uninventive, needlessly profane and macho. Really, I know the lack of offcolor language will likely get this album branded as "pop", or somehow weak, but these guys put together one of the best hiphop albums in the past ten years or so. The songs like "Pass It On" really show the influence of the kindof spontaneous nonsense rhyming that hiphop started with ("save the weight loss, great for kate moss, more potatoes for me, pass the steak sauce"). Young Einstien has a great ability to create a catchy beat, something that will hold your attention, but not distract from the rhymes... favorite songs: "I Wanna Go Home", and "La Revolucion".

4-0 out of 5 stars I Need A Vacation...
This album is straight up feel-good music, no matter how you cut it. The album kicks off with Opening Act, which explains Ugly Duckling's position in the concert world. Haha, if you heard the track, you know what I'm talking about. It moves on to Turn It Up, which is one of the best on the album. This is one of the few CDs that gets better later on, with tracks such as Potty Mouth and Pass It On. Young Einstein really shines on this one, even more than Journey To Anywhere. The album is not perfect, though. I just can't seem to get into Mr. Tough Guy, and I'm back and forth on Energy Drink. Also, the whole Meat Shake theme can get a little stale after multiple listens. For the love of god, though, don't let this turn you off from picking this one up. You'll be quite pleased, if I may so myself. Goodnight now...

5-0 out of 5 stars Ugly Duckling must be crazy to make an album this good.
Now this is what i'm talking about. Finally a CD not full of obsenities and curses but just pure rap skills. No hard rappers or killer beats, just fun music from beginning to end. That's what makes this album last long after the other's have faded, it's really cool. Andy and Dizzy have charisma that goes way beyond their years, and einstein's beats are crazy to the point that you would buy the instrumental just to rhyme over the beats. I can't believe the things they talk about, they go from talking about ordering shakes, to potty mouths, to being the opening act that nobody wants to see. They have a wonderful sense of humor and the listener will really dig the whole theme of running a fast food restauraunt, Duckling makes it work. Buy this CD to see what i'm talking about. ... Los Angeles in the early 1990s was a creative hotbed for hip-hop innovation, and much of it took place at the Good Life Cafe--a South Central health-food store where the city's finest microphone fiends would gather to showcase their freestyle skills, spitting ghetto wisdom straight off their respective domes. The first group to rise from the scene was Freestyle Fellowship, comprised of Aceyalone, Mikah Nine, P.E.A.C.E., Self Jupiter, and DJ Kiilu. As the follow-up to their independent debut, To Whom It May Concern, Innercity Griots is a progressive hip-hop masterpiece and an incredible display of lyrical elevation. Freestyle Fellowship expand rap music's boundaries wider than their lungs right before they let loose the verbal acrobatics. Groundbreaking songs like "Inner City Boundaries," "Park Bench People," "Bullies of the Block," and "Hot Potato" brilliantly build on the concepts of old-school jazz improvisation in a present tense, as the MCs bounce verses off each other and the cool, jazzy beats. --James Tai ... This album is a definate hip hop classic. And a must have for any true hip hop collector with any knowledge of real skills. And a guaranteed party rocker for any deejays crate.unfortunately not available on wax anymore (for some unknown reason.)The with songs like Shammys and Cornbread you will definately by the cd just for the sake of repressing a copy on wax just for yourself.Ive grown up on hip hop all my life and have deejayed for people such as KRS-ONE and alot of others and have known a good emcee or group when i hear one. This is one of the dopest albums ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars review
all the hype you'll read here, about how great 'innercity griots' is, and the surprisingly tight live instrumentation (still a rarity in hip hop when 'griots' was released...sorry, stetsasonic), are all well deserved. trust me.

you need two hands to count all the MCs on this album. even daddy-o of stet makes an appearance. you can be forgiven if it takes a while to distinguish who's who. you probably won't care who's saying what. you'll just know it's unparalleled by any artist eating off the billboard 100 then or today!

i scarcely remember a video from 'griots', bullies of the block i think. it played bet for about one day and the mainstream never heard from them again. at least not in the east.

f.f. displays lyrical range that is staggering. from 'bullies on the block' (battle rap) to the spoken word self-help motivational for black men 'tolerate', the group shows emotion almost unheard of in the harder-than-you b-boy mindstate so popular through the 90s and up until aught-1.

there is the obligatory ode to smoking urb, 'mary', which has become such a staple of rap albums that it is now passe'. but f.f's free-floating, dreamy sonics do the topic as much good as dre's 'chronic' of the same time. another link to dre and cali is in 'six-tray', about...yeap, a fine antique car to cruise in. and my favorite on the album (although there is very little filler, play it straight through) is 'heavyweights', where acey, mikah 9, P.E.A.C.E., and selfjupiter take turns destroying the listeners with style after original style. mikah 9 especially will wreck anyone who tries to recite along with him.

this album is incredible! dig this gem up if you really love hip hop's foundation: this has inventive beats out the yang, and educated lyrics so clever you'll have to dissect them over many listenings.

i've had mixed results giving copies of this CD as gifts to self-proclaimed 'hip hop fans'. but, to paraphrase angelo of fishbone, do you really love hip hop? lots of people say they do. but...do you REALLY love it? 'innercity griots' separates the true love from the pretenders.

WARNING: those of you infatuated with rappers who repeatedly channel mafia/mob motifs, or the tupac/thug life legacy, will NOT like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic-nuff said
This album is the soundtrack of the early 90's and can be argued as the most influential hip-hop album to come out of the L.A. underground. Michah 9,Aceyalone,P.E.A.C.E., and Self-Jupiter easily break down words and metaphors as easily as Run-DMC rapped about their adidas. If you love rhyming and hard beats that keep going until the next afternoon then this is a must-have. From start to finish this album can rock a party and make you grab a dictionary to look up all the new words you never heard of....Freestyle Fellowship is easily the most all-time underated hip-hop artists ever to grace the mic! One thing that stands out about this album is more than half their flows are freestyle, the specialty that FF mastered when L.A. rap that ruled was gangsta rap that was one-dimensional. This music is timeless and is forever ahead of anything that comes after.

The best album bar none. Aceyalone is the king. He is the group. He holds it together. "Bullies on the block", makes you wonder," Where was I when this album was being put together, was I at Wal-Mart, buying clothes, or in the shower, or was I even coherent, by feeling that rap was just a muse of effervesent chachka, that was freeloading in our society like rotten beef lying in the back of a '78 buick on the side of the highway on the way to the LAX in the middle of a scorching summer in late '94, with no air conditioning, and a small rear driverside replacement tube tire, flapping after you ran over a copy of the brilliant album that some hapless loser thinks it's a Kumbaya gospel collabortion with all your favorite country stars singing the great Bible hymns, sponsored by K-Tel, that Grandad used to sing in his rocking chair because he could, since he was in the war, and you realize then and there, that yes, this album is good, and worth every penny." ... SpiGGedy 1's done it again! This album is his finest to date. Enter the "Dirty Bay" area. His lyrical content is a murderous action movie always on the run. 187 Proof! He has the ability to change rap styles at any given moment. The musical production is TIGHT, the lyrics are WORD. Check out "Mind Of A Sick Nigga","Tales Of The Niggaz" and the chorus to "Snitch Killa's". Definetly check dis 1 out!

On this album Spice 1 comes back with the real s**t. Strong gangsta lyrics over west coast smooth producing. Great guest appearences by MC Eiht and E-40. Spice 1 proves again that he's one of the most unique and talented artists in the rap game. I recommend it to all y'all who can't get enough of that gangsta s**t.

With Can't Stay Away, his first album since his self-imposed retirement, X-rated rapper Too Short (a.k.a. Todd Shaw) picks up where he left off with his last release, 1996's Gettin' It. Born in Los Angeles, raised in Oakland, and now living in Atlanta, Too Short is famous for yowling "biiitch" with a distinct sneer, and he's changed little over the years. The fellatio-obsessed rapper still knows how to lay down a slow, funky groove, but his lyrics are nothing short of offensive. With the exception of self-reflexive songs like "Divide and Conquer" and "Still Strugglin'," Short keeps to the usual playa themes, boasting about his sexual prowess ("Don't Stop Rappin'") and complaining about the girls who don't got back ("Invasion of the Flat Booty Bitches"). Cameos by Eightball and MJG, Jay-Z, Shabba Ranks, Daz, Scarface, and Lil' Kim suggest that a short-lived hiatus hasn't hurt Too Short's popularity. --Jeff Niesel ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Bad
I like Too Shorts rap style, but sometimes I wish he would rap over faster beats, that's when he is at his best. That's the main problem with this album, the beats all sound the same and there all unbelievably slow. I do like the cut with B-Legit "What Happened to the Groupies" because B-Legit realy sounds good on this track, and because it is the fastest song on here. "Good Life" is the 2nd best track on here, with a happy little background. With only 11 real songs coming from Short himself, and the rest of the tracks coming from up-and-coming artists from his camp, there really isn't much to go around. Lots of weak songs, but some good ones. The guests keep this one alive somewhat. B-Legit, Daz, Eightball & MJG, Scarface, Soopafly, Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri, E-40, Puffy, Badwayz, Slink Capone, Murda One, G-Side, Playa Playa, Zu, Al Block, Hellkilla & Quint Black. It's average. But I Wouldn't exactly recommend it.

i heard this album is pretty bad from Robbie from minn. that aint cool i guess you dont know how the westcoast bumps, too short has been keepin his style pretty much the same slow, funky, and always bumpin. ive been listening to too short for about 12 years and ive been impressed with what he has gone through dissin girls gettin money what is more important right??? i hope his style doesnt change till hes 60 still spittin!! holla at your boy.

4-0 out of 5 stars oh yes short dog's back n da game
too short came back hard on this one still saying beeyotch which made it official, more freaky tales is a classic I prefer the first one though. good guest stars like daz, soopafly and e40 made you might get g'd a pimp classic. can't knock off don't stop rappin featuring 8 ball and mjg with it's laid back outhern vibe. and also short and b legit clowns more ho's on the cut what happened to the groupies and remakes his 83 classic invasion of the flat booty ...

too short got the title from bootsy collins clasic can't stay away which he samples on the outro.

It's obvious that many of you new generation so called rap fans have a love for suka Mc's, Example P, puff, Jz and there's even a couple on the west coast! ... In the time of fake rapper's that only rap about fake things (aka the hotboys) many of you just follow the main stream and really don't know anything about rap. Short is not fake and never could be, he's a true mack. The reason why this album kept getting pushed back is because short wanted his true fans to be able to play this disc till it wares out(never'll happen). Some of you so called rap fans are only into what's on MTV. Just like the people who say they can't stand forty cause he raps to fast, no your just listening to slow and for the people who say short raps to slow, your not listening at all because pimp music is not for tricks simps suckas haterz and sap's. Anyone who say's this album is not a classic needs to switch to country and western music.... Short was there at the beganing and will be there at the end! This album can be played straight through with out touching a button(except to turn it up louder). This album is a tribute to short that's why there's all the guest,it is an honer to be on a short album.Even though short decided to go with a colaberation of producers insted of just mainly banks as usual, the producing is excellent and every guest rappers spot is earned(even p-didy).Short hasn't lost anything and is ready to step into his third decade of rap.Yes short is all about the money that's why he had the slick idea to feature his rappers in his camp on the last 5 songs. At the last minute short decided to scratch the song "still struggling"(wood soundtrack) and put in it's place "it's about that money" featureing p-didy.The song "where's the groupies" is one of my favorites(features b-legit), there flows are made to go together. My favorite song though is "how dose it feel"(helps me though the bad times and good). In all this album is every bit as good as Get in where u fit in and after time might end up being better. That retierment stuff was just a shame, short knew he had to many fan's young and old to ever stop rapping. ... ... Amazon.com essential recording

Produced by the infamous Dr. Dre with assistance from Mr. Suge Knight, Doggy Style was the first solo outing by Calvin Broadus a.k.a. Snoop Doggy Dog. Incorporating a straight gangsta vibe into the deep funk grooves pioneered by George Clinton and his Parliament-Funkadelic ensemble, Snoop and Dre dogmatically invent the "G-Funk" aesthetic. Espousing an irreverent dope, bitches, and guns mentality, Doggy Style garnered the Parental Advisory for explicit lyrics it sorely deserved. Still, Snoop's lazy-yet-acrobatic rap/drawl is distinctive and undeniably entertaining. With additional vocals from Tha Dogg Pound (Nate Dogg, Warren G, Kurupt, and Dat Nigger Daz), this disc is deceptively professional and musically quite slick. "Murder Was The Case" is practically an inner-city classic, while "Ain't No Fun" is another blunted, urban-rap anthem. Woof! --Mitch Myers ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Hip Hop Classic
This is Snoop's best work yet. This cd is what, 6 years oldnow. But it's still bumpin. I love "What's My Name?" cuzit's a great song for groovin' and "Gin&Juice". "What's My Name" has the same back ground beat that's heard on Dr. Dre's "Dre Day" and Snoop's "G-Funk intro". Other great songs on here are "Doggy Dogg World" which is kind of smooth, "For All My B-----z and My N-----z" has a good beat to it, "Lodi Dodi" which an updated version of Slick Rick's "La Di Da Di" but with more of a westcoast flava, "Serial Killa" and when Snoop rhymes about getting shot and whitnessing near death experience on "Murder Was The Case". Also, Daz and Dre diss Eazy-E on the "Lodi Dodi intro" were Dre says "Yo Eazy comes, Eazy goes" than his 9mm pops. This album was released during the G-Funk era. Now it's the wack era. I sure miss those days when Gangsta Rap was hard, angry, bad a-- beats, and violent. If you love that real gangsta s--t, than this is the one to get. so GO BY THIS ALBUM! END

5-0 out of 5 stars Snoop Doggy Dogg- Doggystyle
Snoop Doggy Dogg's solo debut album "Doggystyle" (1993) is without a doubt a Hip Hop classic. A few months from now this cd will officially be ten years old and in my opinion it still has great replay value and remains Snoop's best album. Guest appearances and vocals which are excellent on this release come from: The Dogg Pound (Daz & Kurupt), Nate Dogg, Warren G, The Dramatics, Dr. Dre,D.O.C. RBX Lady of Rage & Nancy Fletcher. Executive produced by Suge Knight, track production which is phenomenal is looked after by Dr. Dre. I like every joint on this thirteen track release, some of favourites include the laidback timeless party/cruise tracks hits "Gin & Juice" , the funkified "Who Am I (What's My Name)?" memorable "Doggy Dogg World" & the getting laid song "Ain't No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None). Snoop and Company come harder on the street classic "Murder was the Case", deadly 4 way collabo of Snoop, Daz, Kurupt and RBX on "Serial Killa" and the standout piano based "Gz and Hustlas". No doubt that the guest appearances are good, however Snoop really is the star of the show dropping rhymes to remember, with a flow that is truly addictive to listen to. Snoop's "Doggystyle" (as well as Dre. Dre's Chronic)has been like a Blueprint for many West Coast rappers often imitated never duplicated. Another thing that makes this album great is that anyone can enjoy it whether they be a Hip Hop head or someone new to the genre. This is a very good example of original West Coast Hip Hop: full of excellent beats, tight production, memorable lyrics, an album for anyone who loves quality Hip Hop.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Doggystyle": Still Classic After All These Years!
Following the success of 1992's "The Chronic", the unstoppable duo of Dr. Dre and newcomer Snoop Doggy Dogg quickly got to work on Snoop's debut album, "Doggystyle". Many critics wondered if the charismatic youngster from Long Beach could stand out by himself with his own name on the album cover. All the doubters were quickly silenced as Snoop dropped what would be considered one of the hottest debut albums ever.

With production work handled entirely by Dr. Dre, "Doggystyle" is one of those albums that to this day, ten years after its release, can still be played the whole way through. Not only has its production been imitated by countless producers but Snoop's rhymes on this album have been sampled by every emcee from Jay-Z to Eminem. With classic party joints like the hit singles, "What's My Name?" and "Gin & Juice", Snoop proved that despite his reputation as a so-called "gangsta" rapper, he could still make songs to turn a party out. While this album has been influential to many rappers, Snoop himself was clearly influenced by different artists from P-Funk pioneer George Clinton to rap storytellers like Slick Rick as he shows on the laid-back "Lodi Dodi". Snoop also brings his crew along with him as Tha Dogg Pound's Kurupt and Daz showcase their chemistry on "Serial Killa" and "For All My (...)". Kurupt's verse on "Ain't No Fun" is as equally classic as partner Nate Dogg's crooning. Snoop drops what is actually a freestyle on "Tha Shiznit" and he never misses a beat. The classic "Doggy Dogg World" brings the very best from everyone involved. Dre's production along with verses from Snoop, Daz, and Kurupt is the stuff that hit records are made of. The chorus from The Dramatics is the perfect finishing touch to it all.

I don't need to tell you what a classic album "Doggystyle" is. Its record sales and critical praise speak for itself. If you don't have this LP, you need to go out and get it. If you can find the ultra-rare first print that contains "G'z Up, Hoes Down", you better grab that as well. "Doggystyle" was the perfect follow-up to "The Chronic". The same young roster of future superstars came back to show that it wasn't no fluke. ... Read more

Eazy-E, the gangsta rap pioneer who died of AIDS complications in 1995, led a life of mixed intentions and results. As head of both N.W.A. and Ruthless Records, he did as much as anyone to bring South Central Los Angeles' problems to national attention, though his music also helped glorify a life of violence, misogyny, and criminality that became a caricature of his neighborhood.

Str8 Off Tha Streetz posthumously releases music from the rapper's final years. Far from being a haunting voice from the grave, the record makes no mention of Eazy's disease--the only deaths here come by way of gun or baseball bat. On the other hand, the album also contains Eazy's spoken defense of gangsta rap ("We're underground reporters...") and some of his best songs. In particular, two tracks co-written and produced by Naughty By Nature ("Nutz on Ya Chin" and "Hit the Hooker") contain memorable hooks and impeccable mixing. --Roni Sarig ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The round up....
i did not even consider getting this album at all at first. i mean come on the d.o.c. without his voice. but i was curious and i am glad i found this treasure. the doc has found himself 3 snapping young guns (6'2, two face, and deville) from texas. he has cube, dre, ren, baby, and snoop on this one. i am even going to go out on a limb and compare this (the way its set up) to the chronic. yeah u heard me, the chronic. remember how dre introduced the world to tha row and the dogg pound? well that is what the doc is doing.

the production on this project is real good. u would think since its kind of an unoticed by mainstream release, that the beats would suffer but that is not the case. 6'2 ride tracks just like snoop does and he has way better lyrics. two face has real good gangsta muszick wordplay and deville is the pimp juice. go get this album, U HAVEN'T LEFT YET!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally Dallas Representin.....4 1/2 stars
The greatest rapper ever from Dallas Texas is The DOC. He is a legend. If you ever liked West Coast rap you owe the DOC almost as much as you owe Dr. Dre. Dre was the sound, the DOC was the voice. His writing skillz are attached to so many west coast classics it ain't even funny. His own lyrical talent, one of the greatest ever, was tragically cut short when his vocal cords were damaged in a car accident back in 1989. After a failed comeback CD in the mid nineties the diggy diggy DOC has dropped another CD entitled "Deuce". This CD dropped earlier this year and unfortunately was slept on. MAN THIS CD IS BANGIN! First of all the title, "Deuce" is a reference to an up and coming crew of Dallas rappers, particularly one called 6Two, who made his debut appearance on the Chronic 2001 classic "Xxplosive". DOC writes all over this CD but it's 6two and the other cats from the Silverback family that vocalizes the vision. The CD starts off with 2 interludes, one abt the music business, and another reintroducing THE DOC to the world reppin Dallas. The first cut is "Concrete Jungle", a hype head bobber featuring Nate Dogg...Nice! Jazzy Pha dropped a nice track on this cut. After another interlude comes "The Sh..", a beautiful reunion cut with MC Ren, Ice Cube, and Snoop. On fire! "What Would You do" is a nice West Coast murda muzik type cut with a DFW connection from 6two and U P T I G H T. "Gorilla Pympin" is a Dre influenced cut with a sample of the 70's classic "Do It". Track 9 "Judgment Day" is a Dre produced cut that straight west coast, all the way down to the police sirens. Track 11 "Ghetto Blues" is a tight track, preceded by an acoustic interlude done by the DOC himself. Real smooth laid out anthem on predestination in da hood. Great cut. Track 12 "All in The Family" features N'Dambi and actually I'm not feelin this cut much. Track 13 "Critical Condition" is a tight millennium version of "Portrait of a Masterpiece" from the DOC classic "No One Can Do It Better". U P T I G H T handles the vocal pace on this cut like an Iverson crossover. "Mentally Disturbed" is another good cut from the CD, pretty much a 6Two coming out party. Organized Noize drops their work on "DFW" a tight crew jam reppin the South and warning everybody to get out the way. Track 18 "Simple As That" features a hook that starts off "Starched down Dickies and a Grambling hat"...Damn... If that ain't DFdub I don't know what is. The track is tight though! Before Snoop raps the CD up you have "Playboy", a tight quiet storm/jazz oasis cut. Nice...Man it's only 1 cut on this CD I wasn't feelin. Excellently done. While the DOC can't flow anymore with the greats, his protégé's and Allstar lineup do their best to pick up the slack and prove the West Coast ain't nothin without the DOC, while at the same time reppin Dtown to the fullest...........

5-0 out of 5 stars 6'2" IS THE MAN!!!
There is no doubt that DOC hasn't lost it! His voice may have changed, but the gravelly edge adds a lot to the words he uses. It sounds more hard-core than most other rappers bcuz when you hear him you know that his life hasn't been easy. He's been hit hard, but he's still going STRONG! This album should've hit the charts in a HUGE way, but it didn't get the promotion that it deserved. 6'2" helps to make this album really clean! He is one of the most underrated rappers out there today! If you haven't heard this guy, you're MISSING OUT!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Redemption!!!
The rap game right now suffers from lack of substance, and it's my belief that only 2 lyricists have the content and vocabulary to redeem the low-level lyrical rut that rap is in: KRS-1 and the D.O.C. If you hear this CD you'll know exactly what I mean. The DOC via 6-Deuce, keeps the content fresh, inspired and yet somehow manages to remain hardcore. There's a cinematic feel to the whole piece that I think was intendid to encapsulate the dramatic mood of the D.O.C. If rap is poetry serving the self-expressive mood of the artist, then the DOC is one of our finest poets -- keeping hip-hop as a testament of the ghetto both inside and outside the person.

...and then it's just plain FUNKY with certain tracks that aren't meant to be mellodramatic -- but smooth. "The S***" features Cube, Ren and Snoop and is probably the funkiest track on the whole CD and admittedly for me evokes a bit of old school gangster nostalgia.

Beats sounding "dre inspired" but lacking his name credit are probably due to the DOC's close friendship and enormous respect for dre's talent.

This CD belongs in every hip-hop collection. I just hope Dre works more with the DOC on revolutionizing the lyrical direction of hip-hops future.

4-0 out of 5 stars Deuce REVIEW
Before Snoop Doggy Dogg "creeped through the fog" and Eminem shocked mainstream America, Dr. Dre introduced a young buck out of Texas by the name of The D.O.C. Doc's fingerprints were all over all of the early N.W.A. records and his groundbreaking debut LP, "No One Can Do It Better" is still regarded as one of the best debuts in hip-hop history. Many felt Doc would eventually become one of the all-time best but a tragic car accident caused his promising career to end prematurely. Left with permanent vocal damage, D.O.C. seemed all but finished. After leaving Ruthless with his mentor, Dre, he would go on to become a top-notch ghostwriter, penning many of the hits from "The Chronic". Despite a falling out with Dre and a subsquent departure from Death Row, The D.O.C. was still a bankable commodity. Now, ten years since he left Tha Row, Doc has reunited with Dre and many of his old "Chronic" partners for a comeback album of sorts.

Well, those expecting a solo album from The D.O.C. might be slightly dissapointed. "Duece" is actually a compilation album of sorts with most of the lyrical work being done by Six-Two and members of the Silverback family. D.O.C. does show up for a few verses here and there but this album is more or less about his influence in rap. There are two cuts produced by Dr. Dre, a little bit of Dogg Pound influence, and a throwback track called "The Sh-t" which features D.O.C. narrating his way through a Jazze Pha-produced track with contributions from the new N.W.A. Nate Dogg's chorus on "Concrete Jungle" makes for one of the better appearances on the album. Not enough can be said about Six-Two's work. He really helps carry this album to exciting new places.

The D.O.C. knows talent when he sees it. The all-star cast, both old and new, provides a refreshing flashback to a time when West Coast gangsta funk ruled the airwaves. With "Duece", The D.O.C. proves that you don't have to talk a lot to deliver a powerful message. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Old 45s. Not like the wavetwisters.
This reminds me of Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow's "Brainfreeze Breaks," cutting, mixing and scratching old 45s. Intro opens with scratching and mixing Rush's "Tom Sawyer" to old skool rap, disco, to early funk music, and all kinds of old tunes from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, including, of course, sound bytes from old tv shows and even from the wavetwisters. There are 19 tracks, all untitled. The mixes are not flawless but is forgivable because it is supposedly live. Qbert's track selection is amazingly diverse, and often silly. The last three tracks sound like his usual, sci-fi style, wavetwister-like sound. I thoroughly enjoy listening to this album. ... Read more

This is one of the best Bay Area rap albums ever. Mac Mall is an extremly gifted rapper. He is one of those artists whojust tells what he sees, feels and thinks. Some of the best producers worked on that album - Mike Mosley, Ric Roc, Khayree, Ant Banks, Cold 187um and others. Mac Mall raps about mainly about life on the streets and his own way to success. Just one track features other rappers. It's one of the albums best tracks - "Pimp or Die" and there Ray Luv and Young Lay just tear it up. This is a very good album, it has perfect music to it and Mac Mall (a.k.a. Baby Capone) proves that he is one of the most talented young rappers out there in the industry. He is real, and he ain't no wanna-be hustler. He just tells it how it is. If you love West Coast rap, especially the Bay Area it's a must-have for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best hip-hop albums of all time...
Xzibit's 1996 debut album At The Speed Of Life is a wonderful, marvellous, mature, breathtaking and truly classic album with moments that inspire awe. From start to finish, At The Speed Of Life tingles the spine and distorts the senses. To get the vibe from it, you have to listen to the whole album, rather than just pick out two or three tracks. That's not to say that the album doesn't have its exceptionally great moments, in particular the incredible title track, the hit single Paparazzi, the chilling Carry The Weight and the gothic Enemies & Friends. Best of all, however, is The Foundation, produced by Cypress Hill's DJ Muggs, a hair-raising letter to Xzibit's then newborn son which features the actual cries of the rapper's baby. Xzibit's rhyming is exceptional, and the production, mainly handled by the Alkaholiks' E-Swift, is perfect. Despite Xzibit's reputation as a crazy, raw and rough type of MC, At The Speed Of Life is strangely mature and focused. It is a timeless classic and deserves a place in every hip-hop fan's collection. What's more, although Xzibit is based in LA, this album sounds as lyrical and swift as that of any East Coast rappers while Xzibit raps about the West and stays true to it. Forever a classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Xzibit - At the Speed of Life
Xzibit's debut album "At the Speed of Life" (1996) is an impressive first release, it remains my favourite of his four albums out. Executive produced by Xzibit and E-Swift this is a fifteen track release (4 Interludes). Track production comes from E-Swift, Muggs, Diamond D, Craig Sherrard, Saafir, DJ Pen One and Thayod Ausar. Guest appearances come from: Hurricane Gee, King Tee, Catashtrophe, J-Ro, Ras Kass, Tash and Saafir. Album opens with "Grand Opening" a sick instrumental which is followed up by the title track the intense banger "At the Speed of Life". Next comes "Just Maintain" a track where X rips into fakes, and the hardcore "Eyes May Shine". King Tee drops in for "Positively Negative" a nice collabration track. On "Paparazzi" Xzibit takes things to a whole new level talking about the rap game backed up by some very nice instrumentals and background female vocals. My favourite track comes is "Foundation" which has a remarkable background piano beat and Xzibit talks to his baby son about life, the police, the streets, loyalty, guns and women. Xzibit goes deep on "Carry the Weight" a track about growing up poor, death, juv detention, street life, and having alot of anger. "Plastic Surgery" feat. Ras Kas and Saafir is a track that makes reference to a number of people from Michael Jackson to Jackie Chan. Xzibit closes off the album strong with the grimy "Enemies and Friends". Xzibit successfully delivers an album to remember with "At the Speed of Life". Highly recommend this release to anyone who enjoys quality West Coast Hip Hop.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best west coast rap albums of all time
This album is unbelievable. It has great production and obvioulsy X is on his game. Xzibit is one of the most underrated MC's out there and he deserves more respect. The best tracks on here are "Paparazzi" and "Foundation". "Paparazzi" is one of the best songs of the past decade. If you are a fan of west coast music, or rap in general, you need to cop this CD. Instant Classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars X is the Foundation!
Xzibit at his best, no one on the Westcoast is better then X today. If you wanna hear lyrics and beats before he went semi commercial and joined with Dre, then go and get this album. This is his best album so far, and will be until he decides to get back to the foundation that he started in 1996. Most of these tracks are really good, for example "just maintain" "paparazzi" "the foundation" "bird's eye view" are the best tracks on this album, some rappers take 2 albums to get that many tight tracks. A must buy for any rap fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Of The Best From The West
I normaly would never take the time to write a review but I just bought this CD [for a great price]! New! This is 2 CD's, 32 tracks(no interludes, intro's, outro's, or remixes), and they are all good songs. Stupid Doo Doo Dumb, Young Black Brotha, Mac Dre's The Name, Cutthoat Comitte, Heart Of A Gangsta, and more albums feature songs on BEST OF MAC DRE. Didn't get the full five stars because there was not one song from The Rompalation or The Rompalation 2. **** ... Read more
