Kaledioscope 1.2
An interesting follow up EP to Kaledioscope, Quadraplex keeps in the theme of jazz infused electronica. it's dark and powerful but unfortunately not Dj Foods finest. "looking glass" is perhaps the finest song on the Ep which really touches on the whole feel and motive of what the members of DJ food were aiming for. "Hour glass" and "shattered glass" are basically an introduction and conclusion and by the end of the EP you feel like there could of been more. Don't get me wrong the EP is really very good, it's only when comparing to the past exploits of some of Ninja tunes finest that it falls short. On a plus side however it should almost be purchased for the cd case alone, it is really, really cool, clear with streaks of silver running through it!. In conclusion if you've never heard DJ food before start with "a reciepe for disaster" and work your way through the different albums and by the time you've got to Quadraplex you'll really appreciate it, if you've heard DJ food before get it and you'll certainly appreciate it for what it is.

Nice, but short
Quadraplex is billed as a "companion EP to Kaledioscope". And it is... well, sort of.
In general, the tunes on this EP are darker and heavier than most of the material on Kaleidoscope ("looking glass" and "monocle" are probably the best examples). They flow really well, using some similar rhythms and keeping the 'glass' theme and feel consistent throughout.. all four tracks are basically percussion grooves with strange glassy sounds mixed in.

The major drawback to this disc is the length (16:24), which is not great, even for an EP. Since "hour glass" and "shattered glass" are essentially an intro and outro, that really doesn't leave you with much. And although the middle two tunes are excellent, I played through the whole CD while writing this review- in short, it ain't much for the price.

So, pick up Quadraplex if you see it marked down, or if you just can't resist the case design (which, I must admit, is awesome). For an introduction to the DJ Food world, try Kaleidoscope first, or you may be somewhat put off. ... Read more

A must-have for any b boy.
The album is as tuff as a "We Rock Hard". Real hard underground b-boy breaks. If you are a B-boY you'll definetlly like it. I just cant sit and listen to it. It makes me move every time I play it. We have been dancin for it non stop yesterday while training. MUCH PROPS TO FREESTYLERS!!! They blowed my head 1nce again.

Been there, done that
While the Freestylers rocked hard with their debut album in 1999, the same old samples and grooves just doesn't cut it two years later. It seems as the guys didn't notice the scene went on and the still chewing on the tried and buyed oldschool hiphop-breakz. Half the Pressure Point album could have been well written in 1999, you won't tell the difference. There are some promising tracks like Now Is The Time, Calling or Blowin Ya Brainz kicking a hole in the woofer, but in overall the new stuff fails on too much subjects, mostly the ever recurring samples from the album We Rock Hard. Fantastic!
I love music, I listen to everything but I usually do not bother with rap. But MC Solaar is different. He is one of the few artists that I listen to, and every time I do, he impresses me more. His lyrics are intelligent and challenging. His message worth listening to. His compositions stay with you long after you have shut down your stereo. You will find them coming back to you as you move through the day. I really recommend his work, you can't go wrong picking up this album.

Great!
Finally a live album from the best French rapper ever. This album gives a new dimension to Mc Solaar's amazing songs. I wish that you could all understand his lyrics. This is a "must have". I highly recommend this CD, satisfaction guaranteed.

memories of montreal...
I first heard MC Solaar during my summer rowing in Montreal. I wouldn't say I'm a hip-hop fan but MC Solaar was our crew's favorite CD during erg workouts and training. My French has faltered (understatement), but I had to dance when I heard this CD. "Zoom" is perfect for my funky workouts. Slower tracks work with single-malt and kicking-back.

MC Solaar is also brilliant live
The live versions on this album really differ from the studio albums. These versions are more funky and soulfull, while the studio versions are more rythmic. For fans of MC Solaar, this album is an absolute must, although it's not cheap. All the classics are on this, in exciting new versions.
