Swizz keeps the album bouncing with funky sounds and makes sure all the rappers--even the normally mush-mouthed Juvenile, just one of the plethora of guest stars (including Mase, Jermaine Dupri, Big Pun, and Jay-Z) here--sound crystal clear. Yeah, I agree it doesn't deserve 5 stars.
"Ryde Or Die" Vol. 1 can basically be described as one big sloppy variety pack- and yes, there are no "stand-out" tracks...some notable ones, yes ("Jigga My N***a", "Down Bottom", "Pina Colada" only for Drag-On's performance), but none that you'll get stuck in your head. As much as I hate the Lox (don't ask), they work well here, particularly on the title track. DMX is good as usual, Jay-Z is his I-have-so-much-charisma-that-I-can-get-away-with-the-silliest-things self, Eve is great as always, Parle bites, Mase is alright, Jermaine Dupri is soft, Juvenile clicks, Infra-Red is nice...man, this is just un-notable from start to finish. Swizz Beatz literally IS the whole darn CD, weaving his magic into everything and trying as hard as he can to make something bust loose, but the rappers don't seem to be concerned with that here. It sounds like another day at the office. It's fun, but not the definition that the Ruff Ryders would want you to think it is. But then again, it DID hit #1...

Not really recommended, unless you love everybody here.

The Beats are ridiculously PHAT! Definetly a quality CD!
All the songs are excellent, except a few will take a while to jump on(they will grow on you though, no lie). Songs 1-7 will instantly grab you. Song 10 is my favorite(Check it out). The songs with Drag-On featured are the best, of course the songs with DMX are great, and Eve, the female Ruff Ryder, has excellent songs. Overall this album is HOT, HOT,HOT. Check it, this is definetly worth the money, I dont care who you like. The Ruff Ryders are talented and this album also features all of todays Hottest artists: JayZ, Mase, Jermaine Dupris, The Lox, Juvenile, Big Pun, and of course the originator DMX. Yo get it, get Busta too(that was worth the money too)-just as good.

This is definately the best RR CD they have made. This CD can take us all back to a time where we were chillin, or driving in our car, bumpin this...in the summer, pumpin gas, trying to flex. I love this...even Juvi ripped it.

Not The Greatest!!
I am personally dissapointed to admit to my friends that I actually purchased this cd. I am a big fan of DMX and the entire Ruff Ryder team but this cd is just flat out horrible. My only question is why is Jay-Z(Roc-A-Fella) on this compilation cd. That in my opinion is the worst part of this cd.

This compilation is pretty tight most of da tracks be bumpin but I wouldnt call it the best compilation out there.SAN QUINN & MESSY came tight as always but I think they could of came tighter if they had gone wid a straight mobb track instead of some mellowed out beat... Its been awhile since Ive heard MAC MALL,but he doesnt disapiont anyone...cuz the first track is some of dat mobb sh!t dat yall like!!!right?!!! most of the cd is bumpin so its worth buying check it out!!!

I had this album long ago.It's tyght as in their name.
I had this album back when it first came out.The first track played in Seattle, which became a big hit, was "Let's Get Toasted."This song alone made me want to buy the album but that was just a snack compared to the other songs on the album.I would like to get the album again.However, I now live in Vegas and am going to have to order it with my trips to Seattle being very few a year.For anyone who likes this album I would suggest also getting another local Seattle rapper's album that came out at the same time, Baby C.You will be glade you took my advice.His album is also available at mp3.com for free download.

You Have To Be From Cali To Understand
First of all, I have to agree wit dude saying that nobody knows what they sayin. Shade Sheist is one of the best Cali grown rappers to come out in awhile. If you are from the East coast, it's cool you like him, but don't front and talk like you know him, You have to be from Cali, Southern Cali at that to know bout Shade Sheist. The album is a West Coast Classic, for the first 10 records sent to the local radio station to be stolen in a day tells you something. Everybody that thinks that they know shade sheist are going to say "Where I Wanna Be" is the best song, but that goes to show you they didn't listen to the cd. Plus it is Damizza Presnts , not Shade Sheist, so you got to give credit where credit is due. My personal favorite is "Get Ur Head Out Ur Ass". If you from the West Coast, it is for you, but if not I suggest just buying the single because you probably wont appreciate the other songs.

New to Damizza
Listen..... I just got this album....and have never heard of Shade Sheist. BUT IT IS FAT!!! It is a cross between Nate Dogg and Too Short. Truthfully, 2/3 of the album is good enough to bump anywhere. The other 1/3....probably should have been left off the album. Anyway....if you like Too Short/ Nate Dogg style....this one is a must. Oh ya....and "WHERE I WANNA BE" really is........worth the price of the whole CD!!!!!

This is where I wanna be...
This album is worth buying just for one track, "Where I Wanna Be" w/ Kurupt and Nate Dogg is an instant west coast classic. But the album doesn't really stop with that. The whole album is blazing, but the best track usually have Shade Shiest on them. Rappers like this deserve to come up, instead of idoits like Cash Money. Oh well, we've always got west coast radio.

This is one of the best CD's ever
This is for the jerck who gave this CD 1 star and said that it sucks. This is not only DMX. He's only on like one song. This is VARIOUS ARTISTS didn't you know that when you bought it fool. You should have already heard two of the songs on the radio when you got it. I think this is the best CD "Jigga My N@&#a" by Jay-Z is a great song and so "What Ya Want" by Eve. Those are just the best songs on the CD. Everything else rules the world too. I love this CD. If you don't like this CD then you don't like rap music, okay. This CD has everybody on it. It has all the people on Ruff Ryders PLUS Jadikiss, Kasseem, Juvenile, Big Punisher, Mase, Jay-Z, Beanie Siegal, Jermaine Dupri, Myson, Nokio, EVERYBODY, OKAY! So don't say this CD dosn't get five stars

ruff ryders is my favorite cd and i cant wait till vol 2 comes i love dmx and drgon and juvenile in the album the cd deserves more credit and should have more advertisement cuz i wouldnt have known about it if i wouldnt have listened to it and the store i never heard of it before and my friends never did either but after they heard my tape they all loved it and went out and bought it the only thing is i bought the tape instead of cd i wish i would have gotin the cd but o well any way its my favorite album
