4-0 out of 5 stars A must have single for fans
The piano version of "London" makes this single a must have for any PSB fan. When you add the PSB version of "Positive Role Model" from the "Closer to Heaven" musical it becomes an even sweeter deal.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not much music for a lot of money
This CD single includes the original version of London, which you already have if you have the Release album. It also includes "Positive Role Model" which is a dance song. Then the is the version of London with just singing and the piano, which is nice. However, with just 3 tracks and 12 minutes of music, you decide if it is worth it. It seems like London 1 & 2 could have easily been put on the same cd for a better value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pet Shop Boys Single
LONDON is one of my favorite songs from the PSB's recent "Release" album, so I'm really happy it's their latest single. The single is sophisticated rock and tells the story of immigrants from Eastern Europe. When they come to London, they realize that they have limited opportunities and turn to crime. The song is beautiful and uses a vocoder to great effect. They also include a stripped down version (Genuine Piano Mix) that is quite gorgeous. In addition, their version of POSITIVE ROLE MODEL is here, although it is mistitled in the track listing on this page as a LONDON remix. Fans of the PSB will recognize POSITIVE ROLE MODEL from their London stage show (Closer to Heaven). The song was covered by the cast on the show album, but this is the first time the PSB's version has been available. The song samples an old Barry White song and is the most danceable song they've released in quite some time. Overall, a great single and highly recommended for Petheads. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, imports are better!
I seriously think people should go buy Real McCoy IMPORT cds.
They have better remixes. The German Club Mix is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE REAL MCCOY
THIS IS A BRILLIANT CD. THE 'ANOTHER NIGHT' SONG HAS A POWEREFUL BASS LINE. IT MAKES YOU WANT TO GET UP AND DANCE. PERSONALLY I DONT CARE HOW OLD IT IS, IT IS JUST THE BOMB! I LOVE REAL MCCOY. BUY THIS ONE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. REAL MCCOY RULZ

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Euro/pop!
This cd single was released back in 1994 on Arista. The "Club Mix" is the best version, skip "Armand's Nightmare Mix" and the "House" mixes as they aren't nearly as good. One question - Why has Arista decided to re-release hits such as this by Real McCoy? I've seen re-issues by Whitney Houston as well as by Snap. Anyway, if you didn't get this cd maxi single back in '94 then grab it now before Arista deletes it.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Can't Wait "Another Night" To Get This Single!
With rumors of Real MCcoy getting back together in their original form (O-Jay, Vanessa, Patsy, and Lisa) the re-release of their first single under the name Real MCcoy is exhilirating. This is a great single and should be picked up immediately. The radio mix is currently the longest running number 3 single on Billboard's music charts staying there for 11 weeks longer than any other single. (I believe it stayed there for 14 weeks in total but I'm not exactly sure.) The reason for this is even today it is one of the best Euro-Dance/Euro-Pop songs to ever hit the radio airwaves. It sill has the ability to get people dancing. The club mix is absolutely amazing. This HI-NRG track can still be heard in some clubs today and is one of my personal favorite tracks. The other two tracks are good but don't quite stand out as much as the first two, but are still very danceable and are really good. Get this single. You won't regret it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars As simple as that ... it doesn't get better.
Well, here they are ... 13 golden greatest Roxette ballads (does it get better?), 2 new ones, and if you get a hand on the now not-so-available limited edition, 4 extra ones to make your day perfect.

As it aptly says in the inlay card, 'It Must Have Been Love' is "everybody's favourite Roxette track" - and no wonder. The ballads have in my oppinion always been the major force of Roxette (even though I do find their pop hits absolutely delighting, and wouldn't live without them!). And this CD contains a very impressive collection ... 'It Must Have Been Love', 'Listen To Your Heart', 'Fading Like A Flower', 'Spending My Time', 'Crash!Boom!Bang!', 'Wish I Could Fly', 'Anyone', 'Salvation' ... well well, I ought perhaps just list the complete set-list. And the two new songs are terrific! 'A Thing About You' might take a little time to grow on you, but the harmonies of Per's and Marie's voices on this one are marvelous. 'Breathe' more or less just blows you away, simple but lovely, what more could one ask?

As is always the case with compilation CDs, fans will complain about lack of completeness. This time I actually think they did a quite decent job in selecting the song, with one exception - '(Do You Get) Ecxited?' ought have been included - this was a major hit in Denmark I'm pretty sure, a video was shot for it, and it was one of the highlights of the Joyride album. And it is not because of lack of disc space, the CD runs for only 60-some minutes. Of course I have my own favorites I should have liked to see incluted - I could name a long list from the superb Have A Nice Day album, probably one of the most underrated pop-albums of all time (and easily Roxette's best). However, two tracks that were never released for single would have deserved two have been included, since these are among the very best Roxette songs of all times - these are 'Beautiful Things' from Have A Nice Day (I know I'm far from the only one rating this as the best Roxette song ever) and 'My World, My Love, My Life' from Roomservice, a ballad nearly as impressive as the before mentioned. Neither might have great radio-potential, but this really says nothing about the quality of the songs.

The bonus EP contains 4 songs of surprising quality - the songs get better from first to last. 'The Weight Of The World' is good, but the two last songs, 'See Me' and especially 'Everyday' are fantastic, actually comparable in quality to the songs on the real CD. Very nice surprise, as this kind of extra material is often of mediocre quality (as is in fact the case with the Pop Hits bonus EP, in my opinion).

All in all, there is only one thing to say: Don't cheat yourself of this one. If you go buy it tomorrow you'll regret you didn't buy it today.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you like pop/rock ballads, this is a must-have
There is currently a lack of ballads in the music industry. This album is going to fill that gap for you. Every song has great production (instruments and vocals). #1 and #18 are new songs, along with #16, #17 and #19 on the Bonus CD. Here's my rating of the songs:

1. A Thing About You ***
2. It Must Have Been Love ****
3. Listen To Your Heart ****
4. Fading Like A Flower ****
5. Spending My Time ****
6. Queen Of Rain **
7. Almost Unreal ***
8. Crash Boom Bang ***
9. Vulnerable **
10. You Dont Understand Me ***
11. Wish I Could Fly ****
12. Anyone ***
13. Salvation ***
14. Milk & Toast & Honey ***
15. Breathe ***
16. The Weight Of The World (Bonus CD) **
17. It Hurts (Bonus CD) ***
18. See Me (Bonus CD) **
19. Every Day (Bonus CD) ***

This is such a wonderful album. It's a perfect gift for the xmas holidays and Valentines Day. In fact, I have plans to buy it for 3 of my friends as xmas presents.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ballad Brilliance
Pity Roxette has faded from the public eye so much over the years since the mid-nineties, they've still got the knack.
A new album would have been preferable of course, but at least we get a few new songs.
I'm appreciating Roxette's ballads more then ever these days, and this CD is chock full of great ones.
My opinion on each of the songs:

1. A Thing About You:
Fairly low-key compared to most of the other tracks here, but an enjoyable return to the classic harmonies that made us fall in love with Roxette in the first place. 7.5/10

2. It Must Have Been Love
Impossible to dislike this classic ballad, but it's not my favourite Rox song despite what the booklet says.
My favourite part is definatly during the fade-out actually, when Gessle joins in the vocals. 8/10

3. Listen to Your Heart.
One of the most successful Roxette songs, but it's never inspired me as much as it does other fans.
It's a pretty good song, but overlong, and starting to sound dated. 7/10

4. Fading Like a Flower
Slam-bam rocking ballad that could easily fit on the pop hits compliation. Great guitars, and very catchy. 8/10

5. Spending my Time
Superb ballad, that hasn't aged much at all- should've been an even bigger hit then it was. 9/10

6. Queen of Rain
Elegant and atmospheric, this is a VERY underrated track. 8.5/10

7. Almost Unreal
The highlight for me in this song is the middle-8 with Per's 'It's a crazy world out there' vocals. 7.5/10

8. Crash! Boom! Bang!
A song of epic proportions, one that gets better with each listen. 9/10

9. Vulnerable
Mellow and sweet, there's a lot of people who aren't keen on this one - but I'm not one of them.
8/10

10. You Don't Understand Me
Goodish song, but not one of my favourites. 7/10

11. Wish I Could Fly
Epitome of a sweeping ballad, this glorious return should have brought Roxette back to superstardom. 10/10

12. Anyone
Unfortunely no one much cared for this song on it's original release however, and though according to the booklet it's 'gaining momentum,' it's not often on my play list. 5/10

13. Salvation
Back to form with a vengeance, this is one of my all-time favourites. 10/10

14. Milk and Toast and Honey
Pretty, Breezy track from the 'Room Service' album. 7.5/10

15. Breathe

This album closer is the second new song, and is very worthy to be on the same CD as all the other greats.
Ambient and indeed 'irresistable,' as Gessle tells us. 8/10

Bonus Trax:

1. The Weight of the World
I just start to get into this song when it finishes right out of the blue... Wierd, it's like Gessle got sick of it, and just stopped it half-way through, it clocks in at under three minutes. Oh well. 7/10

2. It Hurts
Sounds very much like a demo, but it's very listenable. 7/10

3. See Me
Wonderful ambient song in the vein of 'Breathe.'
It's often compared to Enya's work, but the melody is very Gessle (which is why I was a little surprised to find the music was written my Marie, the first of which on this 2 disk set). 8/10

4. Every Day
The second Marie composed track is an OK, but somewhat unremarkable way to end the disc. 7/10

I hope we do eventually see another Roxette album, but if not, then this and the 'Pop Hits' compilation aren't a bad way to call an end to the Joyride.

5-0 out of 5 stars Roxette and more Roxette
Get the bonus tracks CD version. The extra tracks are wonderful.

4-0 out of 5 stars great compilation.
It is sad that Roxette is one of the great European bands that will never see recognition in The States. This is an excellent compilation of their ballads. I am glad that they decided to release 2 greatest hits cd's instead of mixing up-beat songs with the slow ones. It is wery well worth getting both releases The Ballad hits as well as The POP hits. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best ever
I fell in love with the Se a Vida E remix by Mark. I would pay 10,000 for this if i had to. This is one of the best PSB cd's there is.

3-0 out of 5 stars for hard-core fans only
if you want To Step Aside and Se a Vide E, just get Bilingual which, by the way, is terriffic. If you want to hear the two remixes, don't bother: these remixes are horrible. But if you are a huge fan, this one is worth having for the two decent b-sides.

4-0 out of 5 stars Forget the deadpans, PSB know how to smile..
Probably the most optimistic PSB song ever features the female Scottish drum group Shaboom and the latin rhytm of samba dominates this song. Mark Picchiotti's Dark and Vocal mix is very housy and well, we've heard far better PSB mixes before. But still it's nothing to the remix of To Step Aside - a total crap. At least the single features the original version as well. The last two tracks on this single were released in UK as b-sides on different singles. Betrayed is a first PSB jungle track ever and with piano song Calm Before the Storm it makes a good single. Six PSB tracks for six bucks, that's a good deal. ... Read more

ABBA was originally called Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha & Frida--the name with which the title track of this, their 1973 debut album, was entered into the Swedish heat of the Eurovision Song Contest. The tune didn't get picked, but the resultant public outcry was such that ABBA's future was assured. Both Bjorn and Benny had already been Swedish rock icons in the '60s--Benny, most notably, in the Hep Stars, better known as "the Swedish Beatles," while Bjorn sang in a folk-rock combo. Anni-Frid, meanwhile, had won several national talent contests and Agnetha had topped the Swedish singles chart by the age of 18. Ring Ring, although lightweight, does contain some poignant rumblings of albums to come. Mostly, though, it is along the lines of the winsome "She's My Kind of Girl" and fun-time "Me and Bobby and Bobby's Brother"--music that reflected the group's past, not its future. --Everett True ... 2-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST IS YET TO COME: RING, RING IS A SOPHMORIC EFFORT
I originally purchased this album on vinyl (anyone remember that format?) from a Swedish record dealer during the late 1970s. At that time an ABBA obsessive, I was rather confused as to why "Ring, Ring" had never been released in the U.S. After hearing the tracks on this album, I understood why Atlantic had chosen against issuing it stateside. While some of the songs, particularly "Ring, Ring" itself, Agnetha's compilation "Disillusion" and "I'm Just a Girl" are pleasant enough, others, such as "Rock 'n' Roll Band" and "Me and Bobby's..." are shockingly bad. To be fair, every ABBA LP contained at least one song that should have remained in the vaults, and this effort was issued very early in their collective career. The preponderence of awful songs on this album, however, makes it one to skip for all but the most die-hard fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars Early, but very good
When you listen to this cd you must count that some of the songs like "She's my kind of girl" were recorded by Bjor and Benny before ABBA. But the true ABBA songs are very good. I'm very sorry that they never recorded as good ballad as "I am just a girl". I like "Disillusion" and "Me and Bobby and Bobby's brother "as well. "Ring-ring is not only the title of this album, but also the 1-st hit on their career. I should say that ABBA had already one singer who tried to win the Sweddish Eurovision contest 4 years before "Ring-ring" - it was Anny Frid Lyngstad (Frida) with a song that you can find on her compilation "Frida 1967-72". It's a great beginning of a great group.

2-0 out of 5 stars My least favorite "debut" album
Madonna and Britney Spears had great first albums. However, this isn't one of them. While I enjoy ABBA's later albums, this one never quite rises above silly with a bunch of fillers. One example is "Me and Bobby and Bobby's Brither." Gosh, it's annoying now!!! I used to like it. After ABBA evolved into more mature artists (by next years 'Waterloo,' they were already MUCH better) they are more enjoyable. Far more than this ... piece of immature ....

2-0 out of 5 stars Well, it's just the first album
As an ABBA fan, I bought this album and liked it. That was then. Now it's sitting on my bookcase, and I haven't listened to it since last year. The best are 'Ring Ring' and 'Nina Pretty Ballerina' but they're only 3 (out of 5) star deserving songs. While this has a couple nice tracks, there are some I can't stand. Get 'ABBA Gold,' 'Voulez-Vous' and 'Super Trouper' for some good stuff. C-

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST TO COMPLETE THE ABBA COLLECTION
This album wasn't released in USA so I didn't own the CD until fairly recently, already having all the other ABBA albums. Technically this is not an ABBA album as it was originally released under the name of "Bjorn, Benny & Anna, Frida" in 1973. Recorded in the early seventies, the ABBA sound as we know it today is not present on this LP. In fairness, the group started of as being a duet with just Bjorn and Benny. In fact one of their singles, "She's My Kind Of Girl" is included in this set. Bjorn and Benny frequently asked their girlfriends (Agnetha and Frida) to record backing vocals for them and their voices gradually started becoming more and more prominent on the recordings. This LP is the result, no hint of the group's name ABBA which came a year later. So with this in mind, Ring Ring is a fascinating insight into the progression of the group in its earliest years. There are a few songs here that I don't like (unlike the later ABBA albums), and a few hidden gems (Another Town Another Train, I'm Just A Girl, Nina, Ring Ring). Definitely not their strongest but I wouldn't be without this CD. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars PSB back on form
Typically PSB, typically bang-up-to-date, especially this cd. The Boys are pop incarnate - their new album promises yet another reinvention, and they deserve Hall of Fame places for their sheer creative longevity. Both the Morales and Madkatt mixes (the latter especially) really kick, and the bonus version of Serge Gainsbourg's "Je T'Aime" is both deliriously loopy and sublime. Give it a spin.

4-0 out of 5 stars I know what I want - and the Boys give it every time!
I just got the UK 12" single - after listening several times, I can tell you the song's not the greatest they've ever done (remember listening to the CD singles of "Before," and wondering if you'd like the "Bilingual" album when it came out?) - but it's still very good. Who else can combine average lyrics with electronica and make a song that's danceable, sad, and full of meaning? The remixes are OK, but at least the lyrics are included in the Morales and Maddkatt remixes (the 12" has 3 extras - Dub, Thee Drum Drum Mix, and Thee 2 Blak Ninja Remix - that are just drums and samples, no lyrics). Hearing this 12" only whets my appetite for the CD singles - PSB's B-sides are always a treat! Not to mention the September single "New York City Boy" and the CD itself - "Nightlife" -due in October. If this song is any indication of what's on the new album, then Fall 1999 will be awesome for all PSB fans! ... Read more
