Love the CD; Hate the New Cover
When I first bought this CD back in 1997, what caught my attention was the lovely display of the soft stencil drawing of the mother carrying her beautiful baby, as her gentle hair swayed back. It was an added benefit that I loved the music. The music in this CD is soothing and loving and brings back many fond memories of when I had in particular my first child in my womb. This is the perfect gift for a mother-to-be and/or brand new mother. I still use and play this CD at times to lull my children to sleep and they're 4 and 6 nowadays. My older son is especially fond of this CD making me wonder if he recalls hearing it when he was in the womb. Now, 2003, I recently ordered this CD via Amazon -- in late December 2002 -- to give as a gift to a friend in Puerto Rico, and lo' and behold, I was appalled and disappointed at the new cover of baby in the flesh. Unfortunately, the new cover simply doesn't pull my heart-strings the same. I'm disappointed with the new cover, but I am thankful that the music has remained intact. Because of my recent disappointment is the reason I could only give this newly packaged CD 4 stars.

Indispensible
This and the companion CD will convince even die-hard skeptics that peaceful music combined with the maternal heartbeat as heard in utero create a relaxing environment that will soothe babies and help them sleep longer. We used it with our firstborn for at least a year, and are welcoming our second child with it as well. This is a wonderful gift for new parents. There are many wonderful CD's to help infants sleep. Some contain words, which babies like, such as "Daddies Sing Good Bedtime". Carol Rosenberger is a pianist who has released several CDs of relaxing clasical pieces, such as "Reverie". Of course, depending on your tastes you could use Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue", Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians", or almost any piece that is hypnotic, rhythmic and soothing. But far and away, the Transitions CD are perfect for lulling babies to sleep. You cannot go wrong with this one. Truly indispensible.

Most relaxing cd in the world!
I bought this cd to play in the background while practicing my hypnobirthing techniques for my upcoming birth, and to play for the baby during bedtime. I read the diclaimer about not playing while in a vehicle and scoffed. The first time I played it I was waiting in the car for my husband and fell asleep in 2 minutes flat! I played it at my birth and stayed remarkably calm and relaxed. I've played it for the baby every single time she's fallen asleep for her entire 8 months and it works wonders. I LOVE this cd and highly recommend it!

Transitions:Soothing Music for Crying Infants
I am a Labor and Delivery nurse who used this tape until it wore out. My patients loved the music and the calming effect it had on them. When the doctors would enter my patient's rooms and they heard the music they knew that the patients would be relaxed, in contol and calmed by the Transitions tape. I also used the music for my sons when they were young. They would beg not to have the "baby music" played as they knew that they could not stay awake while it played. Happily this single mom enjoyed some quiet time while the boys napped. I would highly rate this tape/cd as it is so very peaceful. Every childbirth instructor should use this music to teach relaxation. I am buying it again for me!

Highly recommend!
My 10 month old had been sleeping with my husband and I since he was born. I decided it was too dangerous to keep him in there now that he is so mobil, so he had to move into his crib for good. Very high quality, and USEABLE.
I've purchased many CD sound effect collections over the past few years. Overall I would characterize them all as either poor recordings(with lots of white noise in the backgound), or cheesy clips created on a cheap computer that sound nothing like the sounds they claim to represent.

This CD however, delivers. The recordings are of very high quality, and are separated into very useable clips. There are also short blurbs that show you how the studio used the sounds. And there are also a few answering machine messages and birthday greetings thrown in.

This is a great compillation guarranteed to spruce up your home movie! I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Plain fun!!!
This CD is plain fun from beginning till the end. You don't get songs but only sound fx from the Hanna Barbera cartoons. Also, you have some spoken phrases from some Hanna Barbera characters for using on your answering machine, PC, home movies, etc.

nostalgic, hilarious and actually useful
These are extremely crisp and clean sounds and immediately recognizabel as being from Hanna-Barbera. Some of the really short sound effects are perftect for digitizing into effects sounds for either Windows or Macintosh theme sounds or to add into a fun flash movie you're creating. The possibilities are endless when used sparingly and in the right places. This is not a CD that you just pop in your stereo and listen to beginning to end... you can do it once, but that's about it! But it's a fabulous resource for impressing a visual with a sound. If you're mixing flash movies, creating Director presentations or just making Windows/Mac themes, I highly recommend this disc for the high quality. Note that the CD is marked "NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE, " so you can't be using these sounds for profit, but you can for artistic expression. :-) ... Read more

Excellent effects library
Just about every sound from the show you could want, although the tricorder sound effect and a high pitched sound when Sulu charged up the phasers are unfortunately missing-- though the latter can be heard in some of the bridge sequence mixes. I'm currently creating an animated Trek fan film, and this is an invaluable resource for putting it all together. Just got the CD from Amazon today, but originally had this on cassette many years ago.

Could I have twenty stars? Please?
This Cd of sound effects is very cool. I bought this two years ago. I've been listening to this ever since I bought it. I'm a major trecky myself. I like this Cd. It deserves twenty stars for the excelent sounds. I like both the original Star Trek and the Next Generation. I highly recommend this to any Star Trek fan of the future.

Fine I guess For Major Trekkies, But Boring For Anyone Else!
I got this Star Trek sound effects CD for free I'm really more of a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generaton and Star Trek: Voyager, and a little bit of Deep Space Nine, not being all that familiar with the original Star Trek TV show from the 60's I really don't care that much for this CD, I find it kind of boring and sound effects are not really my thing. Only buy this CD or give it to someone as a present if either you or they are major Trekkies. I listened to this CD once and when I get the time I'm probably going to bring it to a store that trades used CD'S.

Fun, but mainly for old Trek fans
For old-time Trekkers, this CD is an evocative walk down Memory Lane. The effects are well-mixed for disc, and are quite impressive, considering the time period (there were few synthesizers to help the sound engineers, so they experimented with sped-up and backwards tapes, much like rock groups of the time). Because the sounds are out of context on the CD, they unintentionally sound rather eerie and vacant, somewhat like a Brian Eno ambient recording--a fascinating effect.

"Sixty-nine never to be forgotten sound effects"
If you are a Star Trek fan or love sound effects - this CD is for YOU! It is quite interesting after all these years since 1966, when this series made its debut on the small screens in America, the sounds you hear on this album are unforgettable. You know in an instant what particular sound, whether it be action, adventure or drama the sound effect department is creating for the viewer.

The final result is a unique library of brilliantly futuristic sound effects that were created by some of the best sound editors of that time. On this album are sixty-nine never to be forgotten sounds that made this series entertaining and somewhat believable, which we now find is not at all that impossible. This is not a relaxing listening CD, but the way we remember those sounds from the "Enterprise" during the '60s when the cast and crew were flying high and protecting this vast galaxy of ours.

Agggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I've found a good CD
There's some good sounds on here and unlike other sound effect CDs there's a track listing in the cover booklet for all 101 tracks. The times listed in the CD cover booklet aren't the same length as on the actual CD though.

Some of the tracks go for too long and would have been more affective as shorter tracks and you end up skipping to the next at times. I particularly liked the scream tracks. A great collection of horror sounds.

A Must Have!
If your planning a Haunted House for Halloween then this is a must have.
It gives the final eerie effects that you need to complete your Halloween plans.
I highly recommend this, as a Horror fan.

The Best Scary sounds I have found to date!
This is an outstanding horror sound CD you might work on when you're filming a horror movie, or if you're waitin for Halloween. I bought this last year and I wasn't disappointed. That dog growling part will remind those who listen to it about a scene from The Omen. That Erie Space Like Wow reminds me of Something from one of the science fiction films. I also like the scraping gong, shower curtain, the wind sounds, Stormy Night, and Intruder Alert. This album is one you won't want to miss. It'll scare the love out of you. To all future horror fans. This is an absolute great sound effects album. You'll love it.

Great F/X CD at a great price
This is not the best overall sound f/x CD out there, but you do get an array of sound effects that will fit into any horror film project you are working on. Don't spend a lot money on those other "Halloween F/X" CD's (I've tried them all), this one does the job. ... Read more

let down
The original sound effects are good but I found the added introductions and skits awful/tedious. The voices are new and pale in comparison to Mel Blanc.
I wish they had stuck to a straight bare bones sound effects collection.

BIG Disappointment!
This is a chopped up 30 second to two minute environmental sounds mess. It is not relaxing to listen to as a rainstorm should be. I was so disgusted with it that I didn't even get to the last half which contains birdcalls and animal sounds. Save your money and spend it on a more relaxing CD!

sleeping with felines
this CD is very relaxing. It transported me back to a night I spent in the wilds of Costa Rica on the banks of the Pacuare river. The constant rain, the dripping and the cicadas or crickets were all very peaceful. The first night this did the trick and I think I was asleep within 15 minutes.

Last night, I decided to let my cats sleep with me (usually they are not allowed because of my sleep disorder ).. I set the CD on loop and fell asleep quickly. I was awoken to my cat jumping off and on the bed meowing and then running across the room. It took me a while to wake up and hear the bird sounds that were driving him so batty :)...

Overall, the noises are so calming and peaceful that I would have to give this a 5. It is a testament to the recording that I didn't actually get to hear the birds before my cat pointed them out to me.

Excellent recording - except for crickets
I purchased the CD hoping this would be what I had been looking for: a CD with ONLY the sound of falling rain. Well, that's "not exactly" what I received. Though the sound quality is exceptional, gradually you will hear more and more crickets toward the end of the CD. On a good sound system, you might even start looking around the house for the crickets as the recording quality is very good. In fact, I had to turn off my sound system more than once to confirm that the cricket sounds were indeed only from the CD. Also, towards the end of the track, you will hear faint bird sounds.

If you're looking for a CD that realistically creates the "being there" effect of a forest during a rainstorm, this CD is for you as the sound quality is exceptional. However, if all you want is the sound of falling rain with no crickets/birds/etc. you may want to look elsewhere. Finally, there are no sounds of thunder - only rain falling with the muted background crickets.

A WONDERFUL MIDNIGHT RAINSHOWER
A wondrful experience of a midnight rainshower, I have played it every night since it arrived. The rain changes intensity enough to make you feel you are listening to it live, comfortable in your own bed. There are no really distracting sounds from the rainshower, like a bird or bug, just delightful rain for an hour. This CD is a delight and well worth the money.
