4-0 out of 5 stars Good
It's a fine CD and has some good songs especially God Bless The USA but I wonder why they put Oh Holy Night which is a Christmas song on a CD where the rest of the songs are non-seasonal. I love Christmas songs and I listen them throughout the whole month of December and when I played this CD for the first time the other day and Oh Holy Night came up my family was like why are you listening to Christmas music in April?

2-0 out of 5 stars God Bless the USA
I love the song GOD BLESS THE USA, but the version on this CD is not the one I am used to hearing on the radio. I've also had trouble with the sound fading in and out on this track.

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless and inspiring
I'm a proud American and I love this man and this record, but not like the love that a man gives a woman kind of way, just in a really really like kind of way, like when someone says "I love pizza."

I proudly served our nation for 12 of the toughest, roughest, and most rewarding years of my life. A tear still comes to my eye when I hear "God Bless The U.S.A." as I think about my days of being a Coast Guard barber, and how I once almost lost a thumb when whacking off the mullet of a rather fidgety greenhorn. And, yes, back in my reckless days of youth, I'd sometimes touch myself, you know, down there, so when I hear "Touch and Go Crazy" I'm reminded that petting the anaconda will only lead to the asylum. Lee Greenwood not only knows how to get a patriotic rise out of me, he also understands how to stifle another kind of rise.

If you don't have this already, get it. If you don't want it, then beat it. America doesn't need you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Natioanlistic Tripe
While not BAD music, per se, along the order of pop trash such as your NSYNCs and your Brittney clones, this pablum panders to the lowest common denominator just as shamelessly as they.

I would rather stick pencils in my ears than to hear the album again. I received it as a gift - and I no longer speak to the giver.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sheer Bonaducian Paradox
Lee Greenwood, despite his puzzling mixture of Bonaducian facial expressions and obvious desire to exude a Neil Diamond charisma, manages to promote a compelling work of musical performance art.

The only troubling aspect of Greenwood's forceful parody is that his work is such "over the top" parody that at times he seems to be mocking the brave patriots residing in the United States.

Whether his aim is true or a mere scoffing of protagasubterfuge, Lee Greenwood is a spirited musical force to be reckoned with, not unlike Joanna Went or LA & Maddog. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Crown Jewel of Finn's Work
Although it is the second chapter in the "Marvin" musical trilogy, "March of the Falsettos" is, perhaps, the best known of William Finn's works thanks to 20 years of continued revivals in regional theaters around the country. "In Trousers," the first part of the story, is the most obscure. "Falsettoland" followed "March..." ten years later and then was paired with "March..." as a two act Broadway musical titled "Falsettos" which won critical acclaim as well as a Tony Award for Finn's wonderful score. "March of the Falsettos" tells the story of Marvin, a previously closeted gay man who leaves his wife and son for his male lover, Whizzer Brown. This sets into motion an alternately hilarious and touching turn of events as Marvin's wife, Trina, finds love in the arms of Marvin's psychiatrist, Mendel, and all the adults concerned try to do what's best for Marvin and Trina's 10-year-old son, Jason, who turns out to be smarter than any of his extended family. "March..." is about love and loss, about ecstasy and jealousy, but finally about parents and children. When all is said and done, Marvin shares the stage with his son, Jason, in a touching, quiet finale. "Sing for yourself as we march along," Marvin encourages his son, and therein lies Finn's message: embrace your individuality. Being brave enough to choose what you know is right for you is never easy, but essential.

5-0 out of 5 stars March of the Falsettoes. . .William Finn delivers once again
William Finn wrote a very good show. Great show for any Musical Theatre lover. A definite must-have. (See also: A New Brain, In Trousers, and Fallsettoeland.)

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best . . .
William Finn. What is there to say? This man has created the most memorable family in the history of Musical Theatre. And here they are. Marvin, Trina, Jason, Whizzer, and Mendel will sing their way into your heart in this powerfully funny tale of broken marriage and self-discovery. A must for every serious Musical Theatre lover. "March of the Falsettos" is actually the second part in the Marvin Trilogy. Perhaps with enough pressure, we can get the first installment, "In Trousers" released on CD! Hmmmm. See also "Falsettoland." ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Can I get my money back
Great selection of music but poor technical quality on the CD.
Sounds "muddy" compared to other CDs. Some of the tracks do appear on other CDs I own so I have basis for comparison.

Don't know if problem is in the "mike-ing" and mixing on original material or in the conversion to CD format.

I'd like to return this CD for refund

4-0 out of 5 stars Indeed a Great Album
I agree that this is a fine album, containing the best-known marches, from the pure marches by Sousa to the operatic and theatrical marches by Verdi and such. This album is probably the only march CD you'll probably ever need. Otherwize, try the one with Arthur Fiedler. His album is pretty good too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eclectic March Ensamble
This is a fine album for anyone who enjoys a rousing march. Beginning with the traditional Souza marches, this fine collection evolves into some of the great operatic marches. You will not be disappointed with this CD. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Surprising Departure for a Military Band!
If you're like me, you're used to seeing CDs from Scottish Regiments that are all pretty similar. They have the regimental badge and a picture of the band on the cover, maybe with a picture of the pipe major or drum major in feather bonnet. This CD is a major departure from that standard. The cover is the first clue, it has an image of parallel tracks with a shadow of a guitar on it! No more "pipes and drums and regimental band" stuff. The Royal Scots Dragoons truly show off their musicanship, and bring along a talented corps of outsiders to help them. The opening track of "Going Home" is accompanied by Mark Knofler of Dire Straits!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ashley's Thinning Napper
I really like this cd it has some really fun tracks and some that my parents like too. My favourite is Ashley's thinning napper

5-0 out of 5 stars Mark Knopfler connection
The first track with Mark Knopfler is wonderful. My own favourite is Hector the Hero

5-0 out of 5 stars Family CD

2-0 out of 5 stars A pianist capable of many things
Osborne is great as far as easy listening piano goes, but there is no adventure or chancetaking going on here. I don't much like this cd, it has a certian sameness. Once you've heard the 1st and 2nd song, everything else sounds the same. VERY monotonous.

1-0 out of 5 stars I love America, but this cd isn't very romantic huh Phillip
This is a horrible cd, I l;ove America, but the msuic just plain sucks, it isn't ROMANTIC, and the songs don't flow together.

5-0 out of 5 stars your money's worth
This is THE BEST piano CD of "red, white, and blue" music I have heard. There is nothing that won't appeal to someone, and all of it will appeal to most all. This is a truly good buy to get a CD on which you will be able to tap along with all the songs. Buy several and use them as gifts and expressions of thank you to nice people.

4-0 out of 5 stars This cd is close to being what I would call a masterpiece
David is perhaps one of the most underrated pianist in American today. He really ownes one of the best talents I have every heard. I follow one hundred pianist and David is what I would consider elite. He is definately on my top five list.

For this cd project David used a mixed bag of songs. He played a lot of patriotic songs, but also included a few choice movie tunes. I think this combiantion worked well.

If you are in love with a beautiful piano this cd will be for you. You will see for yourself what David has accomplished with each song. It's hard to put to words the magnificence of these works.

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific!
"Hero for Today" is a wonderfully balanced collection from the US Army Band and Chorus. There was a good selection of patriotic music, both old and new. The balance within the chorus was well executed, as was the balance between the band and the chorus. Their rendition of "Hymn to the Fallen" was thoughtful, almost prayerful, with a subtle choral overtone. The "Battle Hymn of the Republic" was a fresh and full arrangement of an old favorite. "Here's to America" was an upbeat expression of faith in America, in good contrast to the reflective "A Hero For Today." "This Is My Country" was set with a majestic tone, while "God Bless America" was an upbeat expression of an old favorite. I'd recommend this CD to anyone who would like to hear both traditional and new expressions of patriotic music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding CD!
"In the past I have always tended to prefer instrumental service band and military music, but the latest Altissimo release titled Hero for Today is absolutely superb and has me rethinking my preferences. This CD features the US Army Band and Chorus, and is one of the finest CDs I have ever heard. The CD includes a mix of instrumental pieces, and vocal/instrumental arrangements. It opens with the US Army Herald Trumpets playing a very moving piece titled Heroic Fanfare, which leads to many other wonderful selections. The first time I listened to the CD was on my short 15 minute drive to work, which found me in the middle of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. This is so nicely performed that upon arrival at work I could not shut my car off until the song finished. The Hymn is followed by America the Beautiful, performed by the US Army Brass Quintet. There are a total of 16 tracks on the CD, which closes with a vocal/instrumental version of The Armed Services Medley (track 15), then The Stars and Stripes Forever. In short, I highly recommend you add this CD to your collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hero For Today review

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD and band
One of the best bluegrass lead singers ever. great CD. I've seen them live at Darrington,WA several times they put on a great show and are allways a crowd favorite.

4-0 out of 5 stars A real beaut of an album
This bluegrass album is a beaut! The US Navy's Country Current Bluegrass Quartet features some very accomplished musicians that really know how to pick and sing. This album has a nice variety of nicely arranged material that showcases this wonderful 4-piece. Total Time runs 41.36. Some rather standard songs are covered like Ain't Nobody Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone, The Old Home Place, Big Spike Hammer, Good Woman's Love, and The Prisoner's Song. On the other hand, some originals by guitarist/vocalist Wayne Taylor also caught my ear: Heart of Caroline, and Every Time it Snows. Taylor was recently nominated as Best Male Vocalist of the Year by the IBMA. His song, "Heart of Caroline," is also receiving good airplay and acclaim around the country. Banjo-player Keith Arneson offers two hard-driving original numbers with Douglas the Dog, and Sugarland Run. Fiddle and mandolin are handled well by Patrick White, and the upright bass is played by Joseph Wheatley or Michael Nicholson. Besides straight ahead bluegrass, the Country Current also has a penchant and ability to present folk-flavored songs like Steve Spurgin's A Walk in the Irish Rain, and Tom Paxton's Last Thing on my Mind. If I had one criticism, it would be that "song-carrier" Bill Clifton might not fully appreciate their version of "Little Whitewashed Chimney" that changes some words and leaves out the second verse of this beautiful song. Growing up a "Navy brat" myself, I am overjoyed at the US Navy's commitment to supporting country and bluegrass music in their organization. In the future, I'd like to see their bluegrass quartet become a full quintet (or sextet), and I hope that they'll soon produce an album of all original material.
--by Joe Ross, moderator/reviewer for "Nwbluegrass"

5-0 out of 5 stars NOT your average military march music!
These guys rock, if you can use that term to describe bluegrass music. Their instrumentals really cook, and their lead singer, Senior Chief Musician Wayne C. Taylor, has a great voice. If you can catch them live at a bluegrass festival, don't be fooled by the uniforms...get in a seat and listen to them! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Asset To The Great American Marching Band Tradition
Being from Ohio I may be a little biased, but the Ohio State Marching Band are a wonderful band, one of the best. Across The Field, in case you didn't know, is the school song of The Ohio State University, and this is a brilliant performance of it.

The reason for my 4-star rating is that Across The Field is the only song on the disc. Although it is a great price, I'd rather have a full disc of the band featuring some of the staples of OSU games, such as (in addition to Across The Field) Carmen Ohio, The Hey Song, and Hang On Sloopy.

All in all, a good purchase for an Ohio State fan or somebody who is into marching bands. ... Read more
