Molomix, a collection of remixes of several songs from Molotov's 1997 debut, ¿Dónde Jugaran las Niñas?, contrasts with most remix albums in that it doesn't feature complete overhauls of the original songs. As a result, many of the remixes here are rather dull: the club mixes of "Puto" and "Cerdo" are simply sped-up to make good dance-floor fodder; the "urban mix" of "Gimme Tha Power" differs only slightly from its original; and the drum & bass remix of "Gimme tha Power" is simply generic. Still, Molomix has a few things going for it. "El Carnal de las Estrellas," a previously unreleased track, combines a soundtrack-like string arrangement with Molotov's hard-hitting raps. Also, the group's hilarious version of "Rap Soda y Bohemia" (a.k.a. Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody") is included in its uncensored version--the version that appeared on a Latin Queen tribute album deleted a reference to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. But aside from these two nonessential tracks, listeners unfamiliar with Molotov, Mexico City's answer to Rage Against the Machine, would do better to start with Dónde. --Jeff Niesel ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Streets Heartbeat
The most political, volatile and razor sharp lyrics being put down in Mexico are cutting through society like mantiquilla by Molotov. As their name indicates they are the people's bomb shaterring everything in its way with the force of a nuclear bomb. These street savvy urbanites make the Beasties sound like Pat Boone. Although this is a remix it holds true to the originals enough that even when altered completely they remain satisfying. A combination of hip-hop ala estilo Mexicano and rock these boyz are cutting edge, even though this is a remix of their first CD. Not for the faint of heart be ready for a full out assault on society and the injustices of power. Case in point, "Puto"(three versions) and the catchy "Gimme the Power"- "Dame, dame todo el poder, para que te demos en la madre". "Rap Soda y Bohemia" is a fresh remix of the song made famous by Queen. Essential music that is reflective of the state of the union in Mexico y los barrios de Estados Unidos. Geared for and popular amongst the youth veteranos like myself might find this to be just the right amount of this music. I really, really like it but in small doses. If I were younger I'd own every one of their CD's! Since I'm not I'll be a closet listner with my head phones on while the younster gives me a look and thinks, "he's probably listening to oldie but goodies". An added bonus is that this is an enhanced CD and captures some of their raw youthful energy. Think of it as MTV Internacional for your computer. Estos vatos son de aquellas y como ellos mismo dicen"Viva Mexico Cabrones"!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Music and Lyrics are Excellent.
The quality of the music is as good as any good european group.

The lyrics are gorgeous. Nobody was able to express our feelings in the way this group does it.

Even if you don't speak Spanish, you have to love Molotov. They're music is better than anything the Beastie Boys have done recently. I like "Molomix" a lot, but it's not worth getting unless you already have their first record, "Donde Jugaran Las Ninas". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastico
I never thought my favorite rap group would be from Mexico, but along came Control Machete. I loved Mucho Barato, but after listening to Artilleria Pesada, Presente several times, I was convinced it was an even better album. The production has gotten away from that strictly Cypress Hill type style (but still retains enough for those who like it), and really encompasses a wider sound, from the hard hitting beats and rhymes of "Pesada" and "Unisono" to songs that aptly incorporate traditional Latin sounds with rap like "Ileso" and "Danzon". Fermin is a great vocalist, with his hard-hitting, gravelly voice and well-written lyrics. It's really cool being a non-native Spanish-speaker and figuring out what they say; it really adds to the experience.

By the way, all these sites and even CDDB are off on the track listings. They are fine until track 6, which is a filler track, followed by (7) Ileso, (8) Desde La Tierra, (9) Esperanza, (10) Danzon, (11) Grita, (12) La Artillera, and (13) short untitled track. If you listen to the songs and their themes, this makes more sense

"No se fracasa si existe un comienzo"

5-0 out of 5 stars Much better than the other albums
This is the album where it all comes together well. I bougth this album based on the strenght of one song, Si Senor. Which I heard from the levis commercial. when I saw that commerical I thought it was a wicked song. And I searched for who the band was, then got the album. Now I listen to it all the time. There are other great songs on this album as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I can't say enough good things about this CD, so I won't.

5-0 out of 5 stars Control Machete validates international rap
I was worried when i purchased this album, that because i barely understand any Spanish, that i would not be able to get into it. I was wrong. The production on this album is extremely inspired and every song sounds different and interesting. The music is hip-hop, but retains the Mexican flavor that makes this group so intriguing. Case in point, they rap over Latin Jazz on "Danzon" which comes off really well. Rap in Spanish also sounds really cool! And the real test is that this album sounds awesome both on my boombox and over the car stereo. This album rules from the beginning to the end, meaning that "Si, Senor" is not the only good song on the album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hey white boy! Get some Mexican in you!
Like most of mainstream America, I was first exposed unknowingly to Control Machete through Spike Jonze's amazingly cool "Crazy Legs" Levi's commercial. Normally I go for music like "A Tribe Called Quest", "Public Enemy", and "Roots" (aside from "Roots", modern day hip-hop and rap is well below early 90's standards). Control Machete holds the record for most times I've listened to a new CD on the first day. "Mexican rap" is an exotic genre in Ohio, but this isn't just a novelty disc. Control Machete seems to really have fun doing what they do, even if middle-class white boy over here can't understand the flowing Spanish lyrics.

"Pesada" starts the album with a frantic energy that permeates the rest of the 58 minute hip-grooving masterpiece. "Si Senor", while flashing images of denim in your head, will have even the most jaded elderly gentleman tapping a foot. "Presente" takes the beat down a notch for breathing room, giving you a chance to hold the one you love close to you as you prepare to be beaten over the head with the sharp lyrical stylings of "Unisono" (which I believe has the single best repeated verse in the history of song, which doesn't actually start until a minute forty in). "Instancias" would be the main song in the Control Machete led version of West Side Story (that's a good thing). A :37 second long sound sorbet cleanses the palette before "Ileso", with a sweet Mexican beat leading a very catchy song. I'm sure if I knew Spanish I'd be writing about how the word structure and rhyme scheme of "Desde la Tierra" makes Elton John look foolish, but this song just rocks. "Esperanza" is the inspired ballad of the disc, featuring the Control Machete take on longing of a beautiful woman (to my uni-lingual ear that is, I could be wrong). In a bar, drunk, with a bunch of friends: this is the shining glory that is "Danzon". "Grita" really drives home the point that this is a talented group, sounding at the same time original, yet firmly entrenched in the Control of the Machete. The almost-title track "La Artillera" disgraces American rap like Mike Tyson to his "woman friends"; P-Diddy wishes he could do something this original. In fact the whole disc, group and style should be closely examined by anyone attempting to do hip-hop or rap. Control Machete's "Artillera Pesada, Presenta..." has the originality and style needed to make the executives at Billboard wet their pants in shame. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's ok. Same beat over and over...
I bought this cd thinking it was going to be like "El General" or "Nando Boom" type of music, but unfortunatley, it wasn't. It sounded like if it was the same song playing over and over, exept that it had different words. Overall is good, I guess.
If anybody knows where to buy a "Nando Boom" CD, please let me know. Thanks.

This is one of the most creative pieces of work out in the streets. This Chicago based group has everything going for them. They blend some of the tighest beats with great lyrics. Most of their songs deal with marijuana, but there are a couple of songs that show their pride in being Latinos and true g's. All their songs are mixed with English and Spanish verces and a couple in just plain Spanish which makes the cd even better. a must for anybody. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Why, VICO, por que????
Vico C is the most conscious Latin rapper that exists. Also, his music is slamming! Every track on EMBOSCADA is a great song to me. No hay ninguna que no me hacer sentir bien de una forma u otra. "Superheroe" speaks to the kid in all of us and tells us who is the true super hero. But why, VICO? Why did you preach and teach of the dangers of this society and then become one of the bad guys? Why on the track "La Nina Modelo" did you preach that sniffing cocaine is bad and then you got arrested TWICE in 2003 for doing the same thing? Did you take my hard-earned money that I used to buy your CD para comprar la coca? Lo hiciste, 'mano? I didn't buy the bootleg, so I know that some of the money went directly to you. Wasn't the admiration from your fans and the cheers enough to get you high as a kite? What makes it so bad is that I didn't believe them when they told me that Vico had been arrested for drugs. I kept on rocking the CD, living the alive lyrics that only Vico can lay down. It was only until I read a news report myself that I was forced to smell the coffee. With the sugar Vico put into the mix, it makes the coffee stink. After putting out what I consider the best CD ever (EMBOSCADA), Vico C's lifestyle has left a bad taste in my mouth. BR>I guess the next album will explain why he traded heaven for the white crystals of earthly hell. Be strong Vico!!
Yo se que no has cometido the unforgivable sin. No soy perfecto yo tampoco...

5-0 out of 5 stars ADELANTE COMANDANTE!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars More than beats and loops.
In this album ( just like all the other Vico C's albums ) the thing that stands out it's the lyrics. I'm bilingual and i feel that it's really sad that the people in the U.S don't get his positive message and it's influence on values and principles that english rap doesn't speak much ( more like NOT AT ALL ). He's not about the bling bling, girls and cars. He's all about the peace and the self improvement analyzing the problems that he himself has experienced and the one of others. He has the "feeling" that nowadays you don't see in american music in general. And you would think that after so many albums his quality would decrease. The only think that i didn't like was that it was only 11 tracks. Yet , each one it's special and unique.

5-0 out of 5 stars Positive Rap Music
I have always followed his career. As a Lajeña myself, I must say that Vico not only showed that he is still the man, he proves to many that Rap music is lyrical poetry. You proved to many that Rap music can be very positive and spiritual. Baby, keep up the great work and like all my fellow "Lajeños" keep on making us proud. Pa'lante Boricua, Pa' tras ni pa' coger impulso!

5-0 out of 5 stars Music destroys cultural barriers
Ilya Kuryaki and the Valderamas is a band that disbanded some years ago, they hail from Argentina and in South America released a number of highly succesful albums gaining thousands of fans in the process. When I first heard the band, it was the song "Abarajame" which is a funky song with rap vocals. This was one of the first time I had ever heard a Latino group rapping, and to be honest I thought they would be a one hit wonder. Then this album was released some months later and I was shocked to hear this masterpiece. This is an acoustic set that is amazingly pleasing to the ears. Songs from the album "Chaco" in acoustic versions make up most of the album as well as two previously unreleased tracks. "Ninja Mental" and "Hermosa from Heaven" are love songs like I have never heard before. The production is flawless, its so crisp, its like you are their in the concert. This album is the best thing you will ever hear from this band, I recomend it 100% ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Listen and Learn
From the his first words "tiempo de empesar y de analizar..." he grabs you like if you were a rag doll, and shakes you al the the way through the end. His wriitng skils are great but his way he throws them at you, is even better. Domingo supplied some of the best beats throughout the entire CD. This is not a must buy CD,it is a, "What you haven't bought it yet!?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Hooo haa! Mexicano rifa!
Are you kidding? Hoo! This disc is hot! Bueno, me gusta más cuando rapea en español, pero las rolas en inglés son buenas también. Y la mayoría son en español. Anyway, this is some ole wild rap stuff, kind of like a Rican Mad Lion (who, incidentally, guest raps on a hot joint called Guerreros or something). This record is no joke. My understanding is that it's his first major-label release, and he had two records before, Entre el bien y el mal and El colmo de los fugitivos, o algo por el estilo. No sé si sus otros discos son así de firmes o no, pero deben ser, yo qué sé. El caso es que en mi ciudad no los encuentras donde sea que busques. But whaddyagonnado. If anyone knows where to hook up the previous two, tell me, porque hace falta. Este rapero va en serio.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
I expect nothing but great things from mexicano and this is one great CD. The beats are great and you witness his versatility in his spanish raps, his english raps, and some seemingly prophetic songs (carlito). In El Doctor he rips it up with english and spanish in the same song and lets his ryhmes fly. Tone deff also impressed my with his rhymes. I also would have liked to see him have some songs with other known P rican rappers like baby rasta, tempo, and others. But this cd is definitely worth it. It shows the many skills of mexicano and his flow that is full of rabia!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Job
This CD really has impressed me, because when Ivy Queen was signed to an American label she put forth an average production. But listening to this CD really shows that Mexicano has stayed true to his style and also has branched out by doing a couple of songs in English. Although not listed, there are a few more artists that appear on the album including Maestro, Curly, and Tone Deff, who do great jobs adding to the production. The beats are really good too. The one thing that I would say takes away from the CD is that the only artist from PR that mexicano works with is Maestro, where in his first album he worked with Tempo, Maestro, Kamikaze, Baby Rasta, etc. Also I don't think Playero produced one of the songs, which is a bit disappointing. I hope that Mexicano remembers where he started and works with these people again in the future. Other than that, it's a great CD. I would definitely recommend it. ... Read more
