4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent sampling of greats from"El Rey"!
This is another "must have" Chente CD with a bunch of his truly classic songs. Like one of the other reviewers said, Vicente Fernandez can be compared to Frank Sinatra in both his mastery and popularity in his chosen form of music. But even Frank did'nt have pipes like these! "El Rey" is in a class of his own.
Some of the best tunes here include the beautiful "Lastima Que Seas Ajena" and the powerfully mournful "Que De Raro Tiene". Still, the tops on this CD and one of his best ever is the heart-wrenching "Mi Viejo". It would take a rather heartless soul to not be moved by this song. It's that good.
As good as this collection is, I give it four stars only because overall, I like the song selection on "Historia, Vol. 2" a little better. This is, however, just my personal taste and most Chente fans will be very happy with either one of these discs. In fact, these two CD's would give a new Chente fan an excellent introduction to his music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow
This album is terrific. All of the songs take me back to the days of the old Mexican west, and Vincente seems to be living his songs as he sings them. I play this cd over and over, I can't get enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars ¡Purito Mejicano!

5-0 out of 5 stars EL MEJOR CANTANTE
ESTE CD ES MUY BUENO Y SE LOS RECOMIENDO A TODOS LAS CANCIONES SON MUY BUENAS. YO CREO QUE CHENTE ES EL MEJOR CANTANTE DE TODOS. BUENO COMPREN ESTE CD Y TODOS LOS DEMAS.

Words can not describe how awesome this man's voice is.. his lyrics, his music, his fantastic voice all touch your heart like no other music can! Trust me! I listen to a lot of music and this CD has some of the best that has ever been made! VIVA CHENTE Y SU MUSICA!! ... Read more

After re-establishing her Latin identity with Mi Tierra, her tribute to Afro-Cuban music, Cuban American singer Gloria Estefan made yet another surprising move, this time exploring the music of Latin America, mostly Colombia. What started as a modest, end-of-the-year holiday album became perhaps the most artistically satisfying album of her career. Aided by Colombian arranger and producer Kike Santander (who also wrote most of the material), Estefan explores vallenato (the title track and "Dulce Amor"), merengue ("Tres Deseos"), currulao, a Colombian rhythm ("Farolito," the highlight of the album) and, of course, salsa ("Nuevo Dia"). For fans of her ballad singing, Estefan also includes the elegant, "Mas Alla." A quirky Gloria Estefan album, yet one of her best. --Fernando Gonzalez ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gloria's finest recording
The Spanish language is beautiful in song and Gloria has given us ten great ones in this album to enjoy for a lifetime. I've had this one for over four years now and we still listen to it often. I think "Mas Alla"(Beyond) is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. "Tres Deseos" (Three Wishes), "Farolito" (Little Star), and "Dulce Amor" (Sweet Love) are all household favorites from Abriendo Puertas.

You don't have to understand Spanish to love this album, but you just may want to learn the language after listening to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars An exciting CD that's not to be missed
Gloria's second Spanish release has to be her most exciting (along with 1998's Gloria!) The songs have a very authentic Latin sound. It's almost like she took the last song from Mi Tierra and continued on with the songs on Abriendo Puertas.

The songs have a New Year's and Christmas theme, with messages about starting over, sending good wishes, as well as about just having fun. "Mas Alla" is the softest number, so lovely it brings a tear to your eye. "Farolito" is the most interesting, because of its tribal blend of chanting and rhythmic hand claps.

There are many different Latin and Caribbean styles, which Gloria has written about prior to the lyrics of each song. She tells what styles you'll hear in the particular song, where they come from, and the instruments that are used to get a particular sound.

This one isn't translated like her two other Spanish CD's are. So, even though you may not get the lyrics, the message of loving life is clear throughout the entire CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this one, too.
Not quite as much as "Mi Terra", but I do like this one a lot. Her voice is beautiful on this one, also. A different kind of variety. I'm glad it bought this. Gloria, más español CDs, por favor.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIK AWESOME
This is the best spanish CD EVER I recommed it you wont be dissapointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you need an upper, Abriendo Puertas is for you!
Abriendo Puertas is the second of Gloria's three Spanish CDs, but the last I became familiar with. At first I was disappointed as it seemed less "serious" and "cutting edge" than Mi Tierra or Alma Caribena, but increased familiarity has revealed its considerable charms.

This is a holiday (Christmas and New Years) related album, but not really a Christmas album as such. All the songs are based on Latin dance rhythms and represent the kind of high spirited festival music that is popular at that time of year. This is as much composer/arranger/instrumentalist Kike Santander's album as Gloria's-- he has written 10 relentlessly upbeat, wonderfully arranged songs, inventive and polished to perfection. The details of the songs are quite wonderful, and Gloria's singing is ideal for this idiom.

This is really a great album to put you in a good mood, as well as for appreciating top of the line musicanship. The Gold Star award for the songs must go to "Felicidad", which is just that, and the impossibly infectious "Tres Deseos", (try and play it just once!).

All together, Gloria Estefan's 3 Spanish CD's are a real achievement, and prove that her real talent is in her Latin heritage, and not in the rather ordinary English language albums she is more famous for. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT DEBUT ALBUM BY JON SECADA!
From the first time that I heard 'Just Another Day', I knew I was a very big fan of Jon Secada. He has a great voice, great songwriting ability and produces great music! Every song on this album is excellent. My personal favourite is the romantic ballad 'Angel', because I fell in love with my girlfriend to the sound of that record. I am also a very huge fan of the rythmic 'Do You Believe in Us', the up-lifting 'I'm Free' and the up-tempo dance hit 'Do You Really Want Me'. I would strongly recommend that you buy this album!

5-0 out of 5 stars Jon Secada's Pure Talent
I absolutely love Jon Secada's music. I love his voice because the passion he feels for his music comes across to the listener. I just get caught up in the words and powerful meaning to his songs, especially I'm Free. That song paints a beautiful visual image (if you have an imagination) and empowers you. I have purchased this cd and the Greatest Hits cd and played them both so much they are simply worn, so I've got to buy them again, only this time I am going to save them on my computer before I wear them out. Thank you Jon Secada for sharing your PURE TALENT with us.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pure Passion!
His music has so much passion! This guy can really sing! He puts all of his feelings into his music. Jon has such clear vocals and such a wide range! His music just makes you feel so good!

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS GUY CAN SING
Jon Secada knows he has a great voice, and he shows it off on everyone of these 12 cuts .Sometimes its alittle too much.My favorite cut is "Angel." I could listen to this song forever and never get tired of it."Dreams that I carry," the second number, really shows off this great talented singer. You think he's done holding the note, but he goes higher, lower.THIS GUY CAN SING.The other hit singles,"I'm Free,Just Another Day,Do You Believe in us," are all fantastic records."Time Heals," about a loveless relationship,is the only song I don't care for.I've played this CD for a week, and I still enjoy most of the numbers. If you love hearing a great male singer,Jon Secada's debut CD is a must have for your record collection. ... Shakira may havebeen the first Latina to don the contemporary crossover crown, but Mexicangolden girl PaulinaRubio's first English-language effort outshines the pop competition in anylanguage. Border Girl follows Rubio's spectacularly successfulPaulina, the No. 1 Latinalbum of 2001. Like that collection, Border Girl blends terrific hooks,sing-along choruses, seductive rhythms, and lots of energy--essential elementsfor any great pop album. "Don't Say Goodbye," the hypnotic first single, is agood introduction for American audiences, and Rubio even pulls off a sly coverof the Kiss hit "I WasMade for Lovin' You." Even better are the glittering girl-power anthemstranslated from Spanish to English, including "Not That Kind of Girl," thepulsing club gem "Sexual Lover," and "The Last Goodbye," an innovative,I-will-survive testimonial that blends ranchera and hip-hopinstrumentation. Border music has never sounded so savvy--or sensational.--Joey Guerra ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Someone felt sorry for Rubio
Since I've been alive, Rubio has always been there. I won't deny it: she has some good songs as reflected by "Planeta Paulina" , the self-titled "Paulina" as well as "El tiempo es oro". She has enough material to put two greatest hits cd's together, as oppossed to her rival Thalia. Nevertheless, this production has not much to offer. My attention went to "Si tu te vas", and "Baila casanova", but the rest was indistinct due to her heavy accent which almost sounded like my Mexican physics teacher. The lyrics are absurd and there are just to many songs like these on this cd. In the battle of who can speak with the least accent, Rubio loses to Shakira, Thalia, and Laura Pausini. She just can't sing in English. She will never surpass her "Paulina" cd, as most of these songs are unmemorable. Joey Guerra, Amazon's reviewer for this album is really a fan of this girl or feels sorry for her , because despite this horrible production, he praises it with "terrific hooks" and "border music never sounded so savvy." She is another mediocre artist forgotten by the American audience and readopted by Mexico. All in all, this is a dull waste of your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Crossing over
Paulina Rubio attempts to cross over with her first English CD BORDER GIRL. She attempts to take over as Shakira has but that's where the similarities end. Shakira has more of a rock edge and Paulina leans more toward pop/dance music. BORDER GIRL is the perfect summer release. As soon as I heard "don't say goodbye" I was hooked. It's such a sexy, throbbing dance track. Paulina's voice is not the best for range but her somewhat raspy purrs entrances each track.

BORDER GIRL is the perfect blend of dance, pop, and latin. The songs on here are really easy to get into. Heavy on the hooks and solid on the grooves. She screams "touch me now!" on the sexy "casanova". It also has a few sunny pop/rock moments with "border girl", "the one you love", and "not that kind of girl". Paulina gets really sexy on "I'll be right here (sexual lover)" and "fire (sexy dance)". Both offer pulsating beats and sexy/fantasy-like lyrics.

Paulina Rubio is a party girl and it's really evident throughout this CD. It's fun, fun and more fun. She should however stay away from ballads like "undeniable". That's probably the only dud on this otherwise high energy CD. BORDER GIRL is an awesome up-beat, summer fun CD. Her cover of "I was made for loving you" and the R&B, J.Lo-esque "stereo" are also standouts.

BORDER GIRL also includes Spanish versions of 4 tracks. This CD is a good variety of well crafted pop songs. There's something for everyone here.

1-0 out of 5 stars border girl UGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
paulina has crossed a border too many. Her english is bad and i could hear it in every single word she was even off key in many songs of hers. some beats were nice beat but there should be no singing unless its in spanish which i think she shold jsut quit singing but as for english i think we are looking forward to shakira and gloria estefan maybe thalia who has more talent in acting , dancing and singing but paulina sorry work on your english and music skills and please refund me my money .

The remarkable and violent Mexican film Amores Perros boasts an equally exhilarating soundtrack. Producer Gustavo Santaolalla has assembled two discs' worth of Latin rock and alternative music songs that are both included in and inspired by the film, interspersed with his own original instrumental pieces. The result is an epic, sometimes unwieldy collection, with contributions from usual suspects (Control Machete, Cafe Tacuba) as well as unexpected guests ('60s hit makers the Hollies, female rockers Dover). The first disc boasts past hits from artists, and the second disc includes songs inspired by the theme "amores perros" (roughly translated as "dog loves"). The Amores Perros soundtrack is being marketed as a Latin rock collection, and while it does include solid tracks from traditionalists Fiebre, exciting newcomer Julieta Venegas, and the Trent Reznor-esque Moenia, there's more here than searing guitars and fiery vocals. Salsa queen Celia Cruz's "La Vida Es un Carnaval" sets a passionate rhythm, Titan's "Corazon" rides a funkadelic groove, and "Dime Cuando" is pure bossa nova bliss. --Joey Guerra ... Read more

I am probably one of the hugest fans of Amores Perros the movie and when I went to buy the soundtrack, I was as equally impressed with the quality and performances. This 2 disc set combines music from the movie, as well as music inspired by the movie.I really enjoy both cds and there are tracks that stand out on both. On the first cd is the great track "si senor" you can jam to that forever. I also love "Lucha de Gigantes" and of course the classic "Vida es un Carnaval" by the late great reina de salsa, Celia Cruz. As for disc 2, it contains great tracks as well.My two favorites are Cafe Tacuba and Moenia (one of my favorite groups of all time). If you have the movie on dvd, you can see the Cafe Tacuba music video for "muerdeme" I was kind of hoping that the Moenia video would be on there, but it's still awesome nevertheless. So if you're a rock en espanol fan, or you just liked the music on the soundtrack this is an awesome choice.Highly recommneded!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars best cd
my brother went out to get the cd and when i started lissening to it i was put into a sort of trance. the music can be alittle depressing especially if you are getting over a girl/boy friend. but the veriatty of the music is just amazing. if you dont like one type of song their are several more you can hear.

4-0 out of 5 stars good music but the movie's better
the same thing happened to me with this soundtrack that happened to me with the soundtrack for Y Tu Mama Tambien -- I enjoyed the movie so much that I rushed out to buy the soundtrack, but then I discovered that the music didn't stand so well on its own -- but it's still good music and worth listening to

5-0 out of 5 stars Tremendo soundtrack y punto!

5-0 out of 5 stars Esta Perron...
If you haven't seen this movie, see it, if you have seen it, see it again, and then buy the soundtrack/tribute. The soundtrack is great, and since the movie is so strong, you listen to the songs and say "Oh, Nacha Pop, that was playing when..." (If you've seen it, you'll know what I mean, if you haven't, see it so you get it!)I think the tribute ("Musica") disc is a bit better than the soundtrack, in particular, Control Machete (featuring the beautiful and Siren-voiced Ely Guerra.)called "Amores Perros de Perros Amores" I think if the rest of the album was crap, (and its not) this song alone would validate the fact that its almost 24 dollars. That song personafies the whole movie. Another great song is by Moenia (think Depeche Mode, by way of Mexico)called LADO ANIMAL. Deep dark lyrics, and a great quote by "Susana" "Si quieres hacer reir a Dios, cuentale tus planes" Haunting song. By far Amores Perros is the best soundtrack in any language to a movie in a long, long time ... Read more

In less than a decade, Alejandro Fernández has emerged as one of Mexico's leading young performers by effortlessly balancing the solid ranchera sounds of his father Vicente Fernández with the slick balladry of contemporaries like Enrique Iglesias. On Entre Tus Brazos, however, Fernández sticks a bit too close to the formula of his past successes. His deep, expressive voice glides nicely around the sensual rhythms of "Háblame" and "Quiéreme," but there's a sense of slick detachment that courses throughout most of the tracks, all of which were produced by Emilio Estefan, Jr. Every song is awash in sound-alike string arrangements and tortured-love lyrics. The tempo picks up here and there, but this glossy collection is likely to induce more sleep than swoons. --Joey Guerra ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A portrait of passion and sensuality, Latin style!!!!
I remember being introduced to Alejandro which was about the same time I was introduced to Luis Miguel. "Me Estoy Enamorando" and I was impressed with his delievery of the title track and his collaboration with Gloria Estefan on "En El Jardin". But "Entre Tus Brazos" is another exciting vocal outing for Alejandro. His interpretation and performance of the compositons on this cd reminds me of Steve Perry of Journey. Steve Perry can sing and so can Alejandro. The lush musical arrangements and Alejandro voice compliment each other nicely. I love spanish guitar and it is prominent in all of the compositions. But the voice swoons and dips with ease and appears effortless. I grew up on soul/r&b and some rock (a la' Tina) but always loved latin music even before it became the in thing. Alejandro will be around for a while. If you do not have this cd you should get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great production!
Once thing is certain, and that is that Alejandro Fernandez has to be the most talented male singer out there. Every song he sings is smooth and very inspiring. And when you add the a great Producer such as Emilio Estefan Jr. and a great Composer/Writer as is Kike Santander, nothing but excellence is the result. That was the case of "Me Estoy Enamorando", as is now for "Entre Tus Brazos". The CD is very well-rounded. If you want a little rythm to groove to, you have "Quiereme" and "Nunca Me Arrepiento". If you want romatic ballads with great composition you have, "Hablame", "Si Te Vas", "Cada Manana", "Te Llevo Guardada" and "Ensename". Anybody who loves inspirational lyrics, touching composition, soothing harmony, and vocal interpretation, should most definitely get this CD. It's worth the time you listen to it, and then some.

5-0 out of 5 stars SWOON.....THUD!!!!!!!
First Off Alejandro Fernandez Has The Most Beautifully Stunning Male Voice Ever Created!!!! As For This Cd, Every Song Is Breathtaking & Wonderfully Arranged & Produced. The Title Song Is Simply Beyond Words And I Will Not Try To Explain It's Beauty, I Will Just Say I Get Chills Everytime I Hear It!!! The Fact That Alejandro Is Not More Popular Here In The State Is A True Shame!!!! If You Enjoy A Beautiful,Magical Voice Singing Romantic Glorious Songs Please Buy This Cd & Enjoy!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Needs a 2nd review
I have already reviewed this wonderful album, but since then I have been very dismayed and perplexed by the tepid reviews Entre Tus Brazos has gotten from the offical media, (like here at Amazon). I can only assume reviews have only time to listen to a CD once. Too bad, because it may take several listens to really appreciate this superb album. This is usually the case with very good music, whateaver the genre.

I can only urge all Latin music fans to buy this album, as it is one of the most moving, beautiful and polished male vocal albums I have ever heard, and is one I hold very close to my heart. Alejandro's voice is deeply emotive and very masculine. The arrangements are subtle and beautiful, the songs memorable and romantic, but never in a overly sentimental or manipulative way. This is very sophisticated music.

In fact, I am very hard to please when it comes to just about everything and very critical. There is far more I don't like than what I do like. But this album is absolutely wonderful: ignore the critics!

Also, if you are not a fan of mariachi music, this and Me Estoy Enamerando are Fernandez two forays into more mainstream music, and therefore you should be dissuaded.

5-0 out of 5 stars simplemente bello

5-0 out of 5 stars Among my all-time favorites
This album was among the few that we took with us during a one-year stay in Morocco. Cut off from western civilization and entertainment, I got to listen to it over and over, and discover its depth, despite not speaking a lick of Spanish. It is one of those CDs where every song is somewhere between good and fantastic.

After several months, I finally discovered that two of the songs on the CD are the same, Mujer contra mujer, and une femme avec une femme, but in Spanish and French. Since I speak enough French to get by, I was able (finally) to get the words, and was completely taken by the poetry of the song. Years later, again in Morocco, I made a Spanish woman who was staying with us sit down and translate every word, discovering more of the interesting and sometimes quirky content of the lyrics.

Over time, my favorites have changed. I was at first captured by Hijo de la Luna, with all its richness (note how in the finale the orchestral arrangement echoes the brief piano solo interlude), but later found I was playing La fuerza del destino and the title track over and over. Lately, I have found the piece on Salvadore Dali irrestible.

If I sound like I'm gushing, I probably am. But what else can you say about your all-time favorites? I've probably played this CD hundreds of times, singing away (and I'm sure butchering most of the words of a language I still can't speak or understand). And still, like Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark, I never seem to get tired of it. A masterpiece.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the album that got me learn Spanish
I bought this album on a trip to Spain about ten years ago. I listened to it once and thought "quite nice, but not anything special". One day I placed it on my record player and started to listen to it again. "This is actually quite good" I thought. After having heard it several times more I found myself having a new favourite album. Descanso dominical is still among my all-time favourite albums. For me the highlights of the album are Un ano mas, "Eugenio" Salvador Dali, Mujer contra mujer" and especially "Quedate en Madrid".

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece from the masters!
This is the best Mecano album hands down. 'Aidalai' and 'Entre el cielo y el suelo' come close, but this baby tops them both.

If you've already heard Mecano, you know how lovely Ana Torroja's voice is. It can be lyrical and grand, but it can also be playful and childish when necessary. As for the song writing, it's the usual Nacho and José Mari mix of all their records, basically each one writes half of the songs in the album.

As for the tracks, standouts are 'Mujer contra mujer' (a gorgeous song about love between two women), 'La fuerza del destino' (a quirky love song suppossedly written by Nacho for his then girlfriend and now Ms. Tom Cruise, Penélope Cruz), 'Quédate en Madrid', '"Eungenio" Salvador Dalí" (as José Mari tells it, he is a great fan of Dalí's work and when he learned that the great painter was sick he wrote him a letter telling him how much he admired his work, well, after a while Dalí passed away while Mecano was on tour, and upon returning home, José Mari found a package in his mail that had a book of Dali's paintings dedicated by the master himself! He had signed it only days before leaving this earth!), "Un año más" and "Hermano sol, hermana luna".

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect!
This is a perfect album, no doubt about it. Every song sounds different and wonderful, which is a sign of creativity. This is what makes Mecano so much fun to listen to. I love every single song, but my favorites are "Laika", "La Fuerza del Destino", and "Quedate en Madrid". I really recommend this cd. No Mecano collection is complete without it!

... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Primitive Love (1985) Miami Sound Machine
After the failed success of their 1984 album, Eyes Of Innocence, Miami Sound Machine went back into the studio one year later and released their 1985 album, Primitive Love. This was the album that got them the stardom they were longing for. And this is the album that is my favorite. There are so many great songs on this album, that every Gloria Estefan fan should listen to it constantly.

BODY TO BODY
A song that I could listen to, but not constantly.

PRIMITIVE LOVE
This is much better than Body To Body. Great arrangements, great vocals. It's just great all around.

WORDS GET IN THE WAY
The first single from the album. This song is what made the band famous and is one of my favorites. The song is also my mother's favorite. This one just take me back to my childhood days.

BAD BOY
The second single from the album. I love this one because of it's catchy lyrics, it's catchy harmonies and melodies, and it's catchy beats and arrangements. This one should sound familiar to everyone if you all saw the hit film, Three Men And A Baby.

FALLING IN LOVE (UH-OH)
The third single from the album. This yet another one of my absolute favorites. I can't turn on off this album without listening to this song.

CONGA
The fourth and final single from the album. This song will remain a classic song for all eternity. It has been doing so ever since its release. It has appeared in many films over the years, but the only movie I know this song appeared in was The Birdcage.

MUCHO MONEY
I get a kick out of this one because of it's lyrics and it's sound. My favorite part of the song is when you hear Gloria sing, 'E-bah, E-bah, E-bah'!

YOU MADE A FOOL OF ME
I love this one because of how soothing it sounds.

MOVIES
Not bad.

SURRENDER PARADISE
Not bad.

This is one of the best albums ever made and if you are a Gloria fan, then you should have this album.

4-0 out of 5 stars Primitive Love isn't primitive when it comes to its music
Back before Gloria Estefan was known as simply "Gloria Estefan", it was the Miami Sound Machine. This album, Primitive Love, was the one in which she came out of the dark and started to really make a name for herself.

I've always liked a lot of Estefan's music, so I was wanting to buy her Greatest Hits cd awhile back. But I noticed something. While eating out at Chili's one day a few months ago, I heard two songs that I hadn't heard in years, and I liked them a lot! I just had to have them, as a matter of fact. The two songs were "Bad Boy" and "Falling in Love (Uh-Oh)". I don't see how anybody could leave those two great hits off of Gloria Estefan's compilation, but I didn't care; I had to have them.

So that's how I became an owner of Primitive Love. "Bad Boy" (I like singing along to this song and replacing 'boy' with 'girl') and "Falling in Love (Uh-Oh)" are still my two favorites from the album, but Primitive Love has more to offer. Also included are two more songs that were hits back in the day, including the slow ballad, "Words Get in the Way", and the rapping, danceable (even though I don't dance) "Conga".

Many of the non-hits also feature good listening. The title track has unique background sounds and a nice beat; "Surrender Paradise" has nice vocals, and "Movies" can be downright catchy. Unfortunately, I don't like all of the songs. I'm not a fan of "Body to Body" at all, and I'm not too crazy about "Mucho Money" or "You Made A Fool of Me".

However, when it all boils down to it, Primitive Love is a great album for Gloria Estefan fans and fans of 80's pop/dance records to have in their collection. If you have her Greatest Hits, but you don't have "Bad Boy" and "Falling in Love (Uh-Oh)" in your collection, you're missing out!

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS CD ROCKS!
THE BEST SONG IN THE WORLD IS MUCHO MONEY!

MUCHO MONEY!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Gloria represents LATIN STYLE. The 1st...
This is where the latin female thing started.. Thats my Gloria. Jennifer lopez still has ways to go. Gloria still gives you her true latin roots with killer latin house beats. J-Lopez represents N.Y trash......

1-0 out of 5 stars How Lame Can You Get?
This isn't decent Latin music. It isn't even good pop music. Ok, the songs can be catchy in an ultra cheesy, very uncool, lame-o VH-1 kind of way. VH-1 was made so lame groups like Miami Sound Machine could thrive.

Listen to a few songs from the Gypsy Kings if you want good Latin music, or Santana, or even some of the tunes off the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, there's some surprisingly good Latin music CD's.

This is why a lot of people don't like Latin music. Because lame-o's like Gloria Estupido get all the airplay! Lame 80's music that has a tiny bit of nostalgia for those of us who came of age in the 80's. Otherwise? Avoid! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Three a crowd?
My local and rather cosy Italian restaurant welcomed us and settled us down at our table with the menu to decide which culinary delights took our fancy. It was no good the music had got my attention more than the aromas and the sights of freshly cooked pizzas & pasta dishes hurrying past us. This was my first introduction to Eros & the album: Tutte Storie. This trip has now cost me four albums! and the collection grows. This is his best album & is simply a 'must'buy CD. In public one can't help but hear Eros more and more. The best track? - well If I had to hang my hat on one (and I don't wear one) it must be A Mezza Via, many others come close though. Beware it won't be your only Eros purchase!

5-0 out of 5 stars His best album
In my opinion, Eros is the best music artist ever, and I find "Tutte Storie" his best album, with which only his most recent album "9" can compete.
The best songs are "Un grosso No", which is also one of the best songs ever, "Favola" and "A Mezza Via".
I saw Eros live about 6 times now, and one of the best moments of each and every - superb - concert, is when he sings "Favola".
A Masterpiece !

5-0 out of 5 stars Eros the Magnificent
I have several of Eros' cd's and have become addicted to his music. When I heard Tutte Storie I fell in love with his song "Un Grosso No". The arrangement is incredibe, boy- I wish I knew how to speak Italian. The music is so good you don't have to speak the language to enjoy the music arrangements. This man is going to break me if he keeps making more cd's.

5-0 out of 5 stars QEU BELLA !
Originally from Detroit. It was the summer of 1994. I was in Florence, Italy completing my architectural degree. And while in a friends apartment, switching television channels, I happened accross a music video of Eros Ramazzotti's "Favola" from the Tutte Storie CD. And that was all it took. That song still has me hypnotized to this day. I prayed that they would show the title and artist of the video at the end (like they do on most video programs). When they did, I just scribbled as fast as I could and the next chance I got I picked up a copy from a local music store. It cost me 34,000 lire (about $26 at that time), but it was well worth it.

I spoke very little Italian and understood even less. But, believe me, you don't need to be able to speak the language to experience the emotion captured in this man's vocal compositions.

Let me also recommend "Lo Amero" from his Dove c'e Musica CD. The upbeat songs are great too, but I'm a hopeless romantic and will always gravitate to a great ballad. I haven't heard all of his 8+ CD's, but his style is so rich that no matter which one you pick up you'll be pleased and want to buy the rest. {Kind of like Earth, Wind & Fire - if you're into them}

4-0 out of 5 stars Three songs make this CD
Three songs and the instrumental backup, especially bass guitar and drums, make this CD. They are: A Mezza Via, Un'Altra Te, and Silver e Missie. Listen carefully to the guitar and drums in these songs and also in the very first track. You'll enjoy them as much as Eros' performance. I would only have given it a 3.5-rating if it weren't for these selections. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS SHOULD BE YOUR FIRST PEDRO INFANTE CD
If you are fond of listening to boleros and want to buy a cd this is the FIRST cd you should get. This cd is a classic. I bought this on the Peerless label a while back so it was kind of expensive because it was imported. but now WEA did some deal with Peerless(to my surprise because Peerless was reluctant to accede to any foreign company) and WEA re-released his cd's but at a cheaper price(great!). DO NOT BUY PEDRO INFANTE ON ORFEON. ONLY on Peerless WEA. Peerless did a good job in safeguarding Pedro Infante's classic music. I am not from that era( I was born in the seventies) but I must say his voice I have not seen a match yet. This cd is a must since it contains his most known songs like Amorcito Corazon. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliance! Music Playfulness at its best!
I have owned Cafe tacuba's "Re" since it came out a few years ago. This is by far one of my favorite phonograms of all time. As a Motion Picture Music supervisor, I appreciate versatile artists. in this little CD they combine 20 songs each more different than the next. they breeze through Pop, disco, Punk, Nortenyo, Huasteco, bossa, etc. This record is filled with great sounds, that although this is experimental alternative pop at its best, they still embellish their songs with great shades of ethnicity. Their lyrics contain great poetry, cynicism, humor and riddling prose. This is one of my "desert island" CD's. Although their later recordings have been very dissapointing in comparison to "Re"'s triumph, I consider Cafe Tacuba one of the most undervalued bands of the 1990s. Buy it!! Like, now!

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Obsessed with Cafe Tacuba!
I wholheartedly agree with every review of this album and the group in general. I saw them in concert at the Hollywood Bowl when I went to see Kinky (another fave album this year) and was amused and intrigued by the band, so decided to purchase some of their past efforts. Started with the eponymous Cafe Tacuba from 1992 and kind of liked it but thought it was a bit clever, maybe too clever for their own good. Next I bought Cuatros Caminos and it's almost like a different band. When I picked up Re, I was blown away. What an incredible album! The maturity of songwriting and melodies this band displays is awesome. I am a middle aged white chick who does NOT speak Spanich and I can't get these songs out of my head! HELP! Actually, if anyone would volunteer to translate the lyrics and help me out, I'd be eternally grateful. I know I could get a deeper level of meaning by knowing the stories behind the music, but I still am deeply satisfied every time I play this CD. Particularly Tropico de Cancer which, for some unknown reason, makes me start to cry whenever I hear it. Hope someone can take pity on this gringa and let me know what they are saying!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simplemente lo mejor

5-0 out of 5 stars ElFeGo FaN
If you are a Cafeta fan, you'll really like this cd. This cd has a big range of variety in the moods, styles, rhythms, and everything. You realy can't get bored with this cd. Some of the best songs (to me) is Fin de infancia, Esa Noche, and La Pinta...but like i said, all of them are awesome. If you like this cd, i highly recommend that you check out their other cds like cuatro caminos, valle campana, and tiempo transcurrido. Yeah, what else can i say....they rock. Elfego rocks!!!! aweeee man!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Addictive
Re by Cafe Tacuba is one of those albums you hear is good from a friend. So you buy it, put it in your cd player, and the first time you hear it it seems odd - like nothing you've heard before. It's Mexican pop music, for sure, but somehow it's deeper, richer and more inventive than you ever might have expected. You decide to leave it in your player and listen to it a few more times, to fully understand it. Before you know it, a week has gone by and you're humming the melodies to Re in the street, and it's not boring to put it on when you get back. It's got so much to keep you in thrall: beatlesque/XTC/radioheadesque pop, mexican guitars, ska, death metal, el mariachi, etc. etc. etc.

After a few weeks you take the disc out of your player and put it on a shelf, but the sounds will always be with you. Those sounds will always bring back the moments of your life when you first purchased Re. It's THAT good of an album.

So, I'm telling you now. Re is a good album, you should pick it up and give it a listen - and let a new season of your life begin. ... Read more

The 23-year-old Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira has become an international star thanks to her rich, emotive voice and thoughtful songs. Her albums Pies Descalzos and Dónde Están Los Ladrones? are platinum in the U.S.; now, as something of a taster before the release of an English-language disc, comes this recording of an acoustic performance for MTV. Shakira's songs translate well to the format; in some ways Unplugged is her most muscular music yet. The opening "Octava Dia" gains punch from its dramatic arrangement, while the elements of traditional music in "Ciega, Sordomuda" are applied with wit and charm. Fans of Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette who haven't caught on to Shakira yet are in for a pleasant surprise when they hear this. --Rickey Wright ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best review of Shakira Unplugged u will read
As a very harsh music critic, constantly disenchanted with the so called "rock" being released in the US these days, i found Shakira's unplugged album to be the most refreshing album i have heard in quite some time, and it makes me hopeful for the future of rock knowing an artist of such caliber is out there. Before listening to this album, throw your previous conceptions of shakira the "pop star" out the window. This album is what the girl is about, a wide range of eclectic rock and roll. It starts off with a striking version of "Octavo dia," which captures u instantly with its haunting vocals. The heavily influenced by tom petty "Donde estan los ladrones" will leave u jumping only to be taken into shakira's masterful songwriting with tracks such as "Inevitable" the reworked "Estoy aqui," and the emotionaly revealing "tu." A reggae version of "No creo" brings you up for the mastery that is the last track "ojos asi." "Ojos Asi" is pure genius, and really makes all other attempts at incorporating the middle eastern sound into rock besides the beatles' look futile. The full scale of shakira's sound is displayed here, with its driving rythm and impressive musicianship full of great percussion, violin, citar and more comes across as one of the most impressive songs to be written in years. The flow of the entire album is perfect and carries u through a multitude of highs and lows. Overall an album no fan of pure rock and roll can turn down.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Album to really relax to and just overall GREAT
This Unplugged CD brings home what most fans didn't get to experience live. You feel like you're part of the audience and there's no need to tell you how Shakira's songs themselves make you feel, anyone who's heard her once already knows. All eleven songs are performed to perfection with the beats for many being slightly altered (a pleasant surprise). The Instruments are maybe the greatest thing that stands out, they really penetrate the listener, again a great album to listen to before going to bed, or whenever. Shakira's live performance makes you feel her lyrics even more...and I personally REALLY liked her little intro to track 8 "Tu", it was pretty deep. Stand-outs were tracks 1, (Very deep and good instrumentals "Octavo Dia") 7, (a new twist to Estoy Aqui) 8, (Maybe the best "Tu") 11, (I love her in this song "Ojos Asi") and basically the whole thing. Pick up a copy. Even people I know who dont understand spanish are getting this Unplugged album. Have fun with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars WHAT?
This has to be the most idiotic thing i've ever heard of. the name should say it all, shakira (a very bad pop singer with a bad dye) UNPLUGGED. it was for rock groups, who could put down their electric guitars and really give their music a change. every true musician must be really having a cramp about this

3-0 out of 5 stars It's alright
I bought Unplugged a few days ago and I didn't find it as great as people said. I liked Octavio Dia, Donde Estan Los Ladrones, Tu, Sombra de ti, No creo and Ojos Asi. But Si Te Vas was not a well sung song on this CD. Shakira kept changing her voice from low to high. Moscas En La Casa was ok, but she kept singing faster than she does on Grandes Exitos. Ciega,Sordomuda had an excellent Mariachi band but again her voice was all over the place and wasn't as good as it was on Grandes Exitos. Estoy Aqui was good but she kept shaking her voice. Inevitable was as good as it was on the other CD's. And lastly Ojos Asi had an excellent rhythm but the background singers weren't that great and they killed the arabic part. Overall I wouldn't recommend it, unless you've listened to Grandes Exitos.

4-0 out of 5 stars Only one bad thing...
The only bad thing about this album is that almost all of the songs are from ¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones?...the only song from Pies Descalzos is Estoy Aquí. It would have been great if Antología, Quiero, and ¿Dónde Estás, Corazón? were included. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect album
This is Selena's perfect album, every song is a gem! There is variety and every song is stuck in your head. I cant choose a favourite but I do love 'ya no' particuarly. This is the essential Selena album. Make sure not to pass up 'Entre a mi mundo' also!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite singer
I really like the songs that Selena sings. The thing I like about it is that she sings English and Spanish. I also like her voice and the way that her brothers and sister play the instruments. I think that it really nice that mostly the whole family is in it. I like Selena's songs more than anyother C.D. I wish she didn't die but she did. Even though she's dead, I still listen to hre songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMOR PROHIBIDO: THE ALBUM ALL SELENA FANS MUST OWN
Although Selena was a big celebrity before the 1994 release of this album, "Amor Prohibido" is one of her best known, and really shot this Tejano Queen into the limelight. Some songs featured on this album are "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom", "No Me Queda Mas" and the title track, now known as Selena and tejano classics. This album pushed the Tejano boundaries and is one of the most influential albums of its time. With a mix of rock, pop, cumbia, mariachi and with Selena's stunning vocals it is a must-have.

As for the Remastered Tracks and Bonus Tracks, there is little to be said. There really wasn't much on this album to remaster, as it's original sound was up to date when it was recorded unlike her earlier recordings where the difference is completely noticeable. On some songs, yes you can hear it, but on most...no. The videos on this album are a nice added touch, but if you own the "All My Hits Video Collection", or the "Ones" DVD, this is again just re-packaged material. The Bonus Track, "Dondequiera Que Estes" is a beautiful song and one of her first big hits, and it's nice to have it in its original version on a Selena album (if you own Dreaming of You- the album, you have the Spanglish version titled Wherever You Are), unless of course you already own the "Ones" collection with the original version already on it. The Spoken liner notes are actually very interesting on this record, the band member's memories are much more vivid and I believe they talk more about the experience in the making of this record. I, myself, only bought this remastered album because my old one had worn out, and I felt it was time for a new one. So, if you already own the first original release of "Amor Prohibido", you have to ask yourself a couple of questions:
Would I rather buy the "Ones" album/DVD and get all the material? Or rebuy all the remastered albums and get it piece by piece?
Are the 20 minutes of new commentary on the album worth it to me?
It's really up to you
If you don't own this album already, I STRONGLY suggest you buy it now, because you'll treasure it forever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Album!
This is one of the best albums ever recorded by any artist ever. I have the original 1994 issue, the version with the red sticker on the cover, and this, the best version available with excellent bonuses. YA NO, her best song she recorded, is on this disc. Fast-moving in a good way, this CD is probably the most essential Selena purchase. The commentary by her family is also informative and interesting. Anyone who doesn't own this album is a fool in my book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Their best lyric cd ever!
This is their best lyric cd. The lyrics are incredible good, like "Ana" "Selva Negra" and "Cuando los angeles lloran". And it have awesome rock songs like "Como un perro enloquecido". This cd is my 2. fave mana cd. There is alots of emotions in this cd(as always with mana) that the hardest man on this earth could cry. Mana is simply the best band ever!

4-0 out of 5 stars Can't understand a word, but I love it
Somehow, someway this CD ended up in my collection. Honestly, I have no idea how this CD came to me. Just before I made it a coaster or a mini-frisbee I decided to put it in the player... Wow, MANA blew me away! This esquisitly made album is truly wonderful. The title cut Cuando Los Angeles Lloran is a marvelous song. In fact, nearly every one of these songs gets me humming along. Since don't know a word of Spanish I let the melody and the fine performances carry me along. MANA has a fan in the Great White North (Minnesota). Please don't let a language barrier disuade you from giving this great band a listen.

5-0 out of 5 stars love Mana!
I first encountered Mana when I went to Peru this past summer and loved it! When I came back to the States I was excited to see that my local bookstore carried Mana. I bought this cd and their Sol cd and I love them both! We use and listen to Mana in my Spanish class all the time. The are an international band that you dont have to know the language to enjoy their music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotions
When you read something, you can relate it to your own life, when you hear it, it makes you feel it more vividly, I wouldn't be surprised if you cry to some of the lyrics of this group. Besides being sad at points, they are romantic for all of you lovers out there. This group deserves everyone's listening ear.

Originally banned in Mexico and slapped with a lawsuit in Spain, Molotov, a foul-mouthed rap en español group based in Mexico City, is as fired up as Rage Against the Machine on its debut. The album's title, which translates as "Where Will the Little Girls Play?" parodies ¿Dónde Jugaran los Niños? (Where Will the Children Play?), a 1992 album by Mana, one of rock en español's biggest acts. But that's just the beginning. Rapping in both Spanish and English, the band puts together an explosive blend of turntable scratches, thick bass lines, and flamenco guitar riffs. Initially misinterpreted as a slur against homosexuals, "Puto (Coward)" actually makes fun of anyone not willing to stand up for himself. With its chanted lyrics and anti-authority theme, "Gimme Tha Power" is an anthem for disenfranchised people everywhere. Think of Molotov's Dónde as Mexico City's answer to Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. --Jeff Niesel ... Read more

100% recomendado.

5-0 out of 5 stars El mejor cd que he oido en un buen rato.
Felicidades Molotov!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good!
Very political, very heavy, very interesting. I like the strength of the guitars on some songs, while in others is more like a smooth balance of lyrics and music. The songs are powerfull, insipred by mexican pride and lots of complains about the government, which is the reason why these record has being banned in so many places. None the less it will be a classic.
I like Gimme the Power and Matate tete the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars i want to marry this CD!
Molotov is hands down my favorite band, they have the most amazing blend of rock, rap, and humor. I fell in love with this cd as soon as i bought it, all the tracks are fantastic but voto latino, gimme da power and puto are some of my favorites. Also, not on this cd but still my favorite song by molotov, is here comes the mayo- everyone should check out that song (off the y tu mama tambien soundtrack). This cd has been out for a while but i still listen to it nonstop, along with dance and dense denso. this is the most awsome music you will ever hear. if it sucks you in like it did me, watch out- you will get heavy into latino rap/rock. you can't live without this cd, it is so amazing. viva molotov!

4-0 out of 5 stars Molotov finds the true meaning of rock
With its live-sounding performances, irreverent attitudes..., and kick-...rock, "Donde Jugaran" finds the rock spirit which sadly gets lost sometimes. Most of the disc is in Spanish, but there's enough English to figure out what most of the songs are about, and if you can understand Mexican curse words, you've got about 80% of the lyrical content. Fun album, starting with the album cover. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Selena's greatest English hits TOGETHER
This album is one to definitely own, All of Selena's English hits together on one Disk, with her Final English Songs, and Some of her first ever all on the same disk. You'll also get the Disco Medley from the Astrodome, which is a great bonus. Selena's music is a part of pop culture, and this album is one that only further's her part in Pop Culture.

3-0 out of 5 stars The vampires strike again
I know how Texans thrive on oil wells, and obviously the family of Selena and EMI Latin must have thought they hit an oil well upon the death of Selena. Funny how they can resurrect a "greatest hits", "best of" or something like this every year, if not more than once a year to please the Selena fanbase. Don't get me wrong, I love the music of Selena, but this collection could hardly be called her "greatest hits" or her "greatest English hits". Other than "Dreaming Of You", "I Could Fall In Love" and "Missing My Baby", the rest of this album is hardly to be referred to as "hits". More like filler and tracks reissued from collections after her death, such as the movie soundtrack and Anthologies. "Where Did The Feeling Go" is a nice ballad, "Don't Throw Away My Love" is a nice freestyle track, and "I'm Getting Used To You" is a song I hear once in a while when shopping, and the rest are basically perennial fan favorites who love her English crossover songs. As one reviewer suggested, her true hits aren't included here, such as "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom", "Como La Flor" and "No Me Queda Mas". But the family of Selena and EMI Latin once again suggest issuing another collection, whether they sell well or not. Don't be surprised if a Selena boxed set surfaces in the future, if it's not already in the works.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, her real English language debut!
As awesome as 'Dreaming of You' and the 'Selena' movie soundtrack are (I've worn them both out), this is her true English album. All of these songs finally together on one CD showcase a talented artist who would have far outdone J-Lo and Britney if she'd been allowed to live and make more music in English. Play this along with the album 'Ones' (for the best of her Spanish language work), and you've got plenty of great music for hours. Rock on Selena!

5-0 out of 5 stars Selena, I miss you but I still love your music!!!
I'm a huge Selena fan, since the Selena movie came
out! This is my second CD of Selena, and it's a good
CD but not as good as her Dreaming Of You CD, the Dreaming
Of You CD was my first Selena CD to own, and her Greatest
Hits CD is my second CD of hers to own!! I didn't even know
she had some of these songs before until I got this CD and
I actually like some of them! :) Selena did a great job
making all of these songs on here!!! My favorite part on this
CD is her Disco Medley part, and my favorite songs are: I could fall in love, Dreaming of you,I'm getting used to you, and a million to one! :)
I reccomend you buy this CD today!!

TO SELENA: I miss you Selena, I wish you were still here with
us all! I love you still and always will!

5-0 out of 5 stars You Would Never Want To Stop Hearing It.
I discovered Selena the day she died. I bought a cd when I heard about her. Since then I started collecting all her cds. Her music is special and no one can ever sing the way she did. She sings in a very natural style. All the tracks are beautiful. It should be in your collection. If you never heard any of her songs before then get this cd. It is worth the money you will pay. It's her greatest collection. ... Read more

Spanish crooner Miguel Bosè mixes reflective, aloof, and moody tones in this compilation of old and new material. Bos&eagrave; seems at his best on the meditative "Este Mundo Va" and "Muro," songs that mix meandering melodies while his thickly Castilian-accented vocals inject melancholy sentiment. But he can also unload dance-flavored rock energy like the reggae-flavored "Solo Pienso en Ti" and "Los Chicos No Lloran." Other bright spots include the Elvis Costello-Talking Heads-like dance-pop confection "Bambu," while "Partisano" recalls A Flock of Seagulls without the shrill desperation. The singer-songwriter specialty is anthemic, synthesizer-driven lite rock. The best compositions work fine because they intrigue and engage; the rest amount to warmed-over melodies. Think of Depeche Mode without the thunder. --Ramiro Burr ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ciertamente lo mejor de Bose!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lo Mejor De Miguel Bose

5-0 out of 5 stars Captivating
I heard a track from this album by sheer chance and I was immediately hooked. I'd never even heard of Bose before but I ran right out and bought this album. I was not disappointed. I don't speak more than abut 10 words of Spanish but it didn't matter. The melodies and his voice are enough for you to catch on to what the song is about. His voice reminds me of a Spanish Roger Whittaker. It's smooth and rich but raw when called for. My favorite tracks are #4 Hacer por hacer and #15 Partisano.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bosé: siempre
REALLY, buy it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars La Ley continua con su buena musica
Wow!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars una experiencia religiosa

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect!!!
I saw La Ley live in concert recently at Webster Hall in NYC. Words can't express how incredible this band plays live. Beto Cuevas is trully a gifted vocalist who comfortably and eloquently uses the full range of his voice and delivers a perfect performance. Their unplugged CD a good example of how talented they are. The unplugged DVD is even better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unlike Mana, Deep, New and Innovative.
With a better lead singer and an amplitude of variety between songs in comparison to Mana, La Ley has proved once again to have taken the crown that Soda Stereo left for best latin rock band. Besides "Mentira" the rest of the songs are not commercial or "pop" like other reviews said. This album lets you connect with the band's old and new style. Songs from most of their previous albums give you some deep inside feeling to what they have emerged to since 1989. "Dia 0", a song about a person that suffers from Amnesia is my personal favorite, but other songs like "Fuera De Mi", and "Al Final", provide you with a good taste of acoustic guitar, and symphonic strings, with the never dissapointing voice of Alberto Cuevas. His performance in "The Corridor" and "Krazyworld", demonstrate his versatile knowledge of not only the English, but also the French language. If you loved Soda and you are looking for a replacement, dont settle for the repetitive Mana, La Ley is your ticket. This album is probably the one you should buy first if you dont have any. But if you're a fan like me, you know this is just another example of greatness... La Ley has yet to make a dissapointing album.

2-0 out of 5 stars Only if you're a fan of Mexican Pop
I love the Mana unplugged CD and DVD and think it transcends language and most musical taste. Not the case with this one. All the folks who say "If you love MTV Unplugged, you'll love this" are off-base. Mana is like the Mexican Eagles - something for everyone with amazing instrumentals and vocals. Yeah these guys can play and sing, but too mushy for my taste- think Enrique Iglesias. Plugged in, these guys probably make great Latin Pop for all the (...) girls out there. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Flamenco, Pop, Electric, Blues - These girls do it all!
Go back to 1979 and try to remember Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight". It went something like this: "I said a hip hop the hippie the hippie to the hip hip hop and you don't stop the rock...." Are you singing along with me? Now try the same tune with: "Aserejé ja de jé de jebe tude jebere sebiounouba majabi an de bugui an de buididipí." No, this is not a mere coincidence, the author and producer of "Aserejé (the Ketchup Song)" is Manuel Ruiz, a.k.a. "El Queco", who came up with the idea of writing the Aserejé song while singing the Sugar Hill Gang's song to his kids. El Queco didn't happen out of the blue, he's been around for a while. He recorded his first album at age 17 and produced the 2001 Grammy Award winner flamenco album: "Ciudad de las Ideas-Vicente Amigo."

But anyway, who are these Ketchup girls? The three sisters, Lola, Lucía and Pilar decided to name themselves "Las Ketchup" as homage to their flamenco-guitarist father, Juan Muñoz, whose nickname is "El Tomate." Their catchy single, "Aserejé" climbed up on the charts about two seconds after it was released. The song, in spite of having a refrain that is neither Spanish, English, Esperanto or any other language, is extremely contagious and gets your body moving of its own will. People are saying it's the next "Macarena." I think its rhythm is much more delightful than the song by "Los del Río", which made Bill Clinton sway hips from side to side.

Other songs in the Ketchup album include "Kusha las Playas" which is an intelligent mix of acoustic pop and rumba and is even reminiscent of certain Jamaican rhythms. "Un de vez en Cuando" is an infectious marriage of flamenco and electric guitars. "Lánzame los trastos, Baby" is a complicated fusion of reggae, rap and folk Andalusian song. "Sevillanas Pink" (my favorite song in the album) is a fabulous weave of the classic Sevillana rhythm with blues! (I don't believe anyone had ever done this before.) And the transsexual story it tells goes quite ad'hoc with our times. All in all, it's an awesome song. If you're into flamenco in its multitude of forms, you will definitely enjoy this album.

4-0 out of 5 stars Las ketchup, Just Plain Fun
If you're looking for deep or 'meaningful' music skip this one.
The ketchup Song isn't deep or meaningful but it IS fun.The beat of the music and the lyrics go together well and are easy to listen to (and dance to as well).
With 4 versions of the same song (the ketchup song) it truly isn't the best value for your money (as far as the number of songs for the dollar), but the other 7 songs are good ones.
All the songs are upbeat, fast paced, 'feel good' songs that are easy on the ears and fun to lsten to. For simple, easy listening fun I recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bust a Move
It's all about the song "Asereje Hippy" - a contagious little dance number that is catchy and makes you want to learn the dance. It was time to replace the Macarena anyway. I'll be playing this song at my next dance party!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's all "Asereje Hippy" (the Ketchup Song)...
It was 2003 and I was at La Terrace(sp?) which is this enormous castle in the city of Barcelona that has this huge outdoor disco in it. Well, when this song came on ("Asereje Hippy"), you'd think it was some signal of the Second Coming; people went nuts. It was a bench clearing song, everyone was up, gyrating their hands, their gorgeous Spanish hips...ah, needless to say this song has a very positive association for me...

...for others, it just makes them want to vomit. I totally understand, there have been plenty of ultra-pop party songs that trigger a similar gag reflex for me. Consider liking it for what it is, fun, dumb, and absolutely addictive. The Ketchup Song is really the only reason you should buy this album; it constitutes some 40% of the CD (in various versions of which I like #6 the best). For those 8 people outside the US (and the many younger club-going folks within the US)that haven't heard this CD...consider buying if you can't get the single.

All others, steer clear.

5-0 out of 5 stars Asereje's the best!!!!!
Well, I don't like the others much, but Asereje just rules! I don't know why some people hate it....it's funny, and silly in a positive way! I love it! ... Read more
