3-0 out of 5 stars Misinformed in Houston!
I've been a big fan of PBW for a long time and I have found his technique to such amazement.Yet, when I purchased this album, some of the songs where from his previous album and where titled differently to throw you off.Futhermore, he has better songs with Charizma and there are none to be found on here.I wouldn't say that I am dissapointed by him, but maybe the label that compiled this album.I mean, who would know their own stuff better than Peanut Butter Wolf? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Overview of CD
Hip-Hop culture and the element that started it all - DJing, is no longer confined to the 5 boroughs of New York. In fact the artform reaches way beyond the shores of the US as apparent in this full length album from Spain. For many years kids from the US have been recognizing and giving props to graffiti artists and breakers from Europe, now it's time for the DJ's.

This latest turntablist release from Bomb Hip-Hop, the label credited with the revival of the dj (the Return of the DJ series) showcases the talents of the collective known as Skratch Comando. These three DJ's - DJ Tillo, DJ Marc and DJ None from Lloret de Mar (near Barcelona, Spain) easily hold their own compared to other dj crews like The Allies, Beat Junkies, X-ecutioners and the former Invisibl Skratch Piklz. In fact, on record they actually outshine many of the albums released by US turntablists. Unlike some other DJ albums the production and beats on Incredible DJ's are just as good as their turntable wizardry. The music is a perfect foundation for these DJ's to build their precise scratching and beatjuggling routines upon. After a great intro "DJ's Get The F@#k Up" bursts into play! From then on it's non-stop wikki wikki freeeesh record manipulation. These DJ's cut and weave rare sounds as well as various known vocal phrases like "huh", "ha" and "pump me up". Some sections include the popular "Simon Says" beat by Pharoahe Monch (with the Godzilla sample) spliced in over an ever changing beat to help with the chorus. "Super Fast Track" is a super track with it's b-boy inspired percussion break.

Not only does this album display Skratch Comando's scratching techniques over nicely produced beats and interludes featuring live beatjuggling routines but it also spotlights the trio's group effort. Cutting and playing various sounds (trumpets, drums, shaker, bass) with their turntables and mixers to create a live band-like sound on "Los Tres Magnificos (The Three Kings)", "Turntablist Invasion" and "We Cut the Music". As an added bonus there are guest appearances from Spains' top rap artists on three of the albums songs, rapping in spanish of course, making you wish you would have paid better attention in high school lanquage class. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Avalanches rock
The Avalanches are a DJ's dream come true -- six Aussies who took hundreds of sound snatches, and wove together a wildly playful kind of electronica. Their first (and so far, only) album, "Since I Left You," is a tangle of the delicate, the weird, and the incredibly danceable.

It kicks off with the sparkling "Since I Left You," but the best is yet to come. The Avalanches manage to attain both a typical "sound" and plenty of originality in their songs, such as the bleeps-and-horns "Different Feeling," the knob-twiddling basslines of "Radio," the sputtery dance number "Live At Dominoes," and the interference-laden Rastafarian rock "Flight Tonight."

But with all the dance tracks, the Avalanches have their softer side: the delicately upbeat "Two Hearts in 3/4 Time," the swaying "Electricity," the brief and staticky "Pablo's Cruise," and the gauzy, multilayered "Etoh." It rounds off with the majestically languid "Extra Kings," which has a long sweep of distortion and chaos in the middle.

It's almost too easy to dance to the Avalanches. They take almost a thousand mismatched sounds and manage to cobble them into some really brilliant music. What's especially brilliant is the way these patchwork dance tracks manage to find solid, simple grooves, and stick to them right to the end.

"Since I Left You" isn't perfect -- at times the fragments don't quite mesh together. Some parts are pure chaos, but oddly they don't mar the overall sound; instead, they enhance it. Scattered in amongst the melody is the sound of video games, horses, discos, golf instructions, flutes, pianos, and seagulls -- it adds a strangely whimsical sound to the dance music.

The vocals tend to be samples repeated over and over, just under the surface of the music. Among the vocal snatches are the ethereal "Since I left you/I found the world so new!" or determined "Book of flight tonight." So the lyrics are often quite simple, except for the hysterically funny "Frontier Psychiatrist" ("Lie down on the couch, what does that mean?/You're a nut! You're crazy in the coconut!").

"Since I Left You" takes hundreds of random sound fragments, and turns them into a mosaic. Fun, playful, fast and hypnotically bizarre, this is a must have for fans of quirky music. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, nice indeed
A pick-and-mix from some of the leading breakbeat labels - Skint, Wall of Sound, Deconstruction. There are some classic tracks here... the Midfield General track is probably his best (and shows exactly why he's the Skint label boss). The Hardknox track, although a little dated, still rocks, as does the Monkey Mafia classic. Crystal Method sounds a little out of place here... and frankly I think everyone's a wee bit sick of that track anyway, but overall this is a handy compilation. You'll probably have a fair bit of the stuff on another CD already though...

1-0 out of 5 stars BAD BAD BAD
I thought that the music on this CD was annoying and repetitive. The one redeeming quality for the whole album was the track "Trip Like I Do" by the Crystal Method, but that is it. I would suggest NOT to buy this CD. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ipecac Release
This is one of the coolest DJ's you are going to find. Worth the money for the song Crybaby alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have been a car crash...
This is the type of music I was expecting to hear in the year 2001. Let down by numerous other 01 releases, I didn't have any expectations upon purchase of this fine CD and only bought it because Mike Patton had a hand in putting it out. But from minute one I was hooked. A work of sample and scratch culled from past records, this is kind of like "The Best Of" Eddie Def. It takes the concept of "Noise" music to a more listenable level. An Epicac record that I can actually groove to while I'm crashing into parked cars on Wilshire's Miracle Mile. (I'm not saying the core noise movement is a bad thing, it's just hard to bob my head to whitenoise and feedback).

There isn't really just one song, though there are a few rap lyrics that bubble up here and there, this is more of a freeform collage that comes together like a couple of Marie Calander's pies that fell on the floor and got all mashed together. Blow off the hair & dust, you're left with a mighty tasty treat. I had trouble locating the disc in store: First I was told it was in the rock section. Then I was informed that it was indeed in the Dance/trance section. Perplexed as to where it could be, Me and the friendly customer service guide finally tracted it down to the hip-hop/rap isle, right next to DMX. Hmm.

My favorite part? The part where Eddie Def scrathed the swivey out of Artoo-Deetoo. That killed me and put this record somewhere in my top ten list for 2001, and here at only four months in. ... Read more
