5-0 out of 5 stars absolutely breathtaking
The night my fiance and I fell in love we were listening to this cd set, so naturally it has special meaning to me. It is absolutely beautiful-both cds. It's really deep, intense, smooth, rhythmic trance. I have been looking for this cd for a year and a half. I'm so happy I finally found it here!

5-0 out of 5 stars Renaissance's diverse flavorful beats amaze me
If you like smooth, classy, styley beats then the sound of Renaissance is for you. All Renaissance cds have their own feel and always ( except for the coming to America album ) feature two, to three completely different DJs. This CD is one of the more impressive ones. Dave Seaman Starts out the first disk with a tribal progressive house sound, that smoothly glides it's way into a progressive remix by Garbage that winds it way into track 9 ( I forgot the name! whoops. ) which maticulusly blends into a choice drum and bass track, and then closes out with an uplifting heartfilled track by Lamb.

Then Robert Miles comes on. I had heard Robert Miles before this album and expected his set to be a completely 'fluffy' dream trance voyage, but is instead some of the best psy trance I've ever heard. He starts out with a touch of melody that tears it's way into Nick Warren's Way Out West and goes from there with some of the most creative in your face psy trance I've ever heard making this album a must have for anyone who appriciates a good progressive house set with a screaming psy trance close out.

4-0 out of 5 stars three hours of good dance music
Considering that this compilation contains three CDs, the price, in reality, is not that bad. All in all, I think some people here are a bit too harsh on this compilation. CD1 is a pleasant mix of what is essentially remixed disco tunes (at least that is what they sound like to me). Almost every song follows the same outline: cliched lyrics, female vocal, soul and disco sounds, relentless beat. As dated and simple as all that sounds, it is fun to dance to. The other two Cds get a bit more serious. Dave Seaman rules, as always. The first two opening tracks on his CD are nothing special but they are very short and serve simply as an introduction for what is to come. As usual, Seaman's selections are good, although I think that his Renaissance Awakening CD is considerably better. BT's mix-and this is where I probably differ with most of the reviewers here-is perhaps the best of the three. Except track 10, all the tracks are good. Even the couple of songs that are mediocre by themeselves work well as part of the mix. Very enjoyable compilation. Also, there seems to be some confusion on this page because some reviews are about the London edition with Dave Seaman and Robert Miles.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, if you like a little variety
This was the first CD I got from Rennaissance, being attracted to the BT mixed CD. Morales's mix is good house with some soul overtones in the beginning, not bad if you're into house. I love the way the Seaman CD has the good base of trance, but then incorparates 2 great songs by Howie B. and DJ shadow at the end, it's a nice treat to hear the bridge from trance to Shadow's unique hip-hop. The BT disc, which was actually mixed on ProTools and not a turntable, has some low points but overall it's not bad. The overall vibe is prog trance but has a little variation. I love the version of Godspeed that ends the compillation.

I have too many mixes to compare to this, other than Sasha, but I'd say it's worth 30 bucks if you can tolerate old-fashioned house and a few other influences next to your trance. If not, buy Oakie or a Sasha mix.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent but below standard for Renaissance
Renaissance has a stunning track record, and prides itself on cutting-edge tracks. That's commendible, even when it doesn't work.

This 3 CD set is an import and thus very expensive. Before you buy, check out the other Renaissance Worldwide releases, the London mix and Volume One. Both are far superior in consistancy and mixing. The Singapore set isn't bad, but not really worth the price.

Disc One, David Morales, is very housy and not really my taste. Some of the songs kick in the booty, but I've never listened to this CD the whole way through...too many wailing women, too 'cheesy'.

Disc Two by Dave Seamen is very good, and a bit more esoteric than his London mix. The last third of the CD really opens up, espicially the Garbage remix.

Disc Three by BT is OK, but has its faults: he extends some of these songs too long without variety, and on other songs he 'layers' the sound a little too thick, marring great tunes like 'Bad Girl.' This CD ends very strong.

Better than most 'techno' released in the US, but not on a par with other releases on this label. Kudos for experimentation, though. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME ERA & MUSIC- XTC MUSIC
By far one of the best compilations put together by razmormaid records on one disc and a personal favorite, wish there were more like this one!! Great XTC MUSIC, A TIME WE WILL NEVER FORGET, Oops, Maybe some of us!! If you like CLUB 6400 remixes, then this is for you, down in Houston where it all started and is sweeping the nation with Rave & Techno Music!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fans of industrial and early techno, take note
This CD is an excellent example of early techno from the late '80s. Please note that the review from "guyville2k" is based on this person's own taste, and is therefore biased. If you are a fan of industrial, or early techno, this CD should definitely be of interest to you. As an added bonus, half of the songs on the CD are remixes from the famous DJ team of Ben Watt and Art Maharg, aka Razormaid! Fans of BiGod 20, Front 242, and the like should take note. Some great stuff here!

1-0 out of 5 stars low grade techno
Bad breaks, bad drum programming, really stale beats. Ho-hum. I've been inflicting Vol. 1 on myself to try and see its use. There is none. Spare yourself and skp this disc. Look, instead, to Mint Royale, Fat Boy Slim, Groove Armada, or Air, all of whom are far better at creating cool dance music than this dross. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointing
I think if you haven't heard 90% of these songs or artists ever before, then maybe it might be woth it. The second cd comes off especially rancid in that cheesy, overly-chilled flavor of downbeat, etc. The first disc has hits, but they are the same hits that we heard a looooong time ago. It sort of seems to fill that "introducing electronica to those who are clueless" need as a compilation. You'd do better to buy some of the original albums by prodigy, the chemical brothers, propellerheads, sneakerpimps, moby, bjork, fluke, the orb, orbital, etc etc to find out about house, big beat, trip-hop, and some of the more popular forms of e-music, then maybe progress to some richie hawtin (aka plastikman), amon tobin, mouse on mars, squarepusher, matmos, and kid 606 if you're feeling more adventurous. This compilation just isn't worth more than, say $12 (I paid $30- aren't I stupid?)...

5-0 out of 5 stars Wired Import Compilation-Techno
This is a great two CD collection. All genres of Techno are represented. Turned me on to a lot of new beats and artists. Also there is another 2-disc compilation from the same producers call Fused. Again excelent material. All the hottest artists that play today. A must for any techno or rave fan. Even a small amount of punk/goth.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice compilation
fortunately the earlier reviewer has no idea what he's talking about... this is a compilation from Virgin Records and is an import here in the states. it features some of the better artists in the electronica genre. the only thing bad about it is the import pricing.

man, i was really disappointed, there was hardly anything classic about this cd, besides some of the originals trying to release "new material"... the music was mediocre at best, the only thing cool was Mr. Armando Gallop's (RIP) voice overs, high-lighting through the history of the Chi-Town scene, but other than that.... ... No Categories, the latest compilation from San Francisco's consistently boss Ubiquity label boasts two CDs chock full of what the label has become known for: laid-back beats, rare-groove acid jazz, and deeply funky hip-hop. Highlights? We've got highlights: Kool Keith and Automator kick things off with "A Better Tomorrow," a glimpse into the hip-hop future. Bugs, a San Francisco electronics duo, mix things up with a cut-and-paste track that jumps into psychedelic hyperspace in the blink of an eye. Skyjuice get into "A.D.I.D.A.S." (yep, it's about sneakers), a dubbed-out hip-hop groove. Bobby Matos chills things out with a nitrogen-cooled acid-jazz vamp. Other acts, including Slide Five, DJ Wally and Swingsett, Dave Pike, Pucho and the Group, and Live and Direkt, all turn in high-quality tracks. The result is a set of music intently locked into a next-wave groove both jazzlike and beat-filled. Hang on. --S. Duda ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Electronic dance classics.
I don't know how this compilation is offered here, but one that I purchased from the store included: Hypnotic State CD1, Hypnotic State CD2, and the free bonus CD which came out to be GIEZ, The Ambient Room. The first Cd included such big names as Orbital, FSOL, Transmutator, New Order, and Bypass Unit which delivered great electronic sounds. The second Cd is little bit worse than first. It includes such song as 808 State's Lopez(remixed by Propellerheads). I think that name of the third cd speaks for itself, ambient music. Overall, if you are into the electronic music, then you will like this compilation. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Houseduction!
Plunging deep into the steamy side of house, this CD is a call to the bedroom dancefloor by an international cast of house hustlers. It might be a little uneven but when it's good it's superbad. The first couple of cuts represent some of the finest deep micro-house todate. It gets a touch cliched in the middle but works out nicely toward the end when the Discowboys go bull riding. you need it bad.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy listening house music
I find this CD fairly enjoyable. Some of the tracks, like "Where's The love that I knew?" and "Peace is not the word to play" are really dreamy and well programed. A few of the other pieces aren't quite to my taste and lack the right feel for what I like to move to or mix with. Overall a good buy with cute artwork on the cover. Viva la france. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good compilation in a good series of compilations.
Welcome to the Future, Volume Four is a compilation of high-quality tracks in the ambient/techno genre. All of the tracks are good. Two are unlike anything I have ever heard.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you're looking to try something different
i was in a music store and wanted to buy some CD. i was already holding a copy of the soundtrack for Lock, Stock, and two Smoking Barrels (great sndtrk by the way). i was browsing around the techno section. i'm not a big fan of the category but i guess it depends on where it came from. anyways, so i'm browsing and this CD caught my eye - it said it had 3D sound quality. i thought that was cool and decided to try it out. well, despite the lack of 3D sound quality (maybe my stereo isn't equipped), i really liked the CD. its a bit mellow for what i thought techno music was about. i would even go as far as saying it was dream-like. if you like the techno version of x-files, then you'll like this CD. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars SoundBASE???
I purchased this cd due to the SoundBASE three dimensional Stereo sound on this disc. I couldn't hear much of a difference.. And it didn't help that most of the tracks were quite forgettable. The only good tracks on here areWhatever Girl's "Activator" (remixed by Johnny Vicious - who alsoworked on Deborah Cox & Whitney Houston) and I Love Music (note forthis track - it is called the "Fire Island Mix", but it is NOTremixed by Heller & Farley, who usually use the name Fire Island ontheir remixes, it is remixed by the Development Corporation - who have doneremixes for Urban Cookie Collective & Haddaway). The rest of thesesongs are highly forgettable. Spend your money on something better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing like good House music
Doc Martin strikes again. For those of you that have heard "Unlock Your Mind" this album is as good if not better. Upon listening to this album I was taken back to my days in college. "What you need" and "Follow me" were two of my favorites back then. It was nice to hear them again mixed by Doc Martin. The general tone of the album is NY style, no techno, no electronic and no euro..... just deep, house beats and rhythm with some voice thrown in. The CD2 commentary was also interesting. You can get some fascinating info on the origins of House music. An overall excellent album for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great House Music CD
I love Doc Martin's House Music movement CD. I grew up listening to house music and it's really hard to find good house music these days. This cd brought back so many wonderful memories of the House Music that was played in the New York City clubs. Doc also does a great job of mixing the songs together. My favorite track is Track 10. Follow Me - Aly - US. This is a New York City House Music Anthem. In fact, my wife and I played the House Music Movement CD at our wedding reception and everyone was on the dance floor.. This CD is a must have for the House Music collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars some great deep house
Its not doc at his best that can only be found on the dance floor. Its hard to get into making a cd when there is no vibe to feed off of. However this album is a good buy. Great tracks and ofcourse great mixes, everytime i listen to it I feel like dancing, great for house parties. With songs like basement groove you cant go wrong.

3-0 out of 5 stars He's done better
In order to really experience doc go out onto the dancefloor and hear him live. This Cd isn't bad but a better choice would be "Unlock Your Mind". This Cd by itself is mostly house beats thrown together and although it gives the ear a nice blend of sound, unlike the repetiveness of trance or tech, it really doesn't show Doc's full potential either. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Still enjoying
I bought this album the day it came out back in 1999. Having heard some of Toms other works, which consist of mostly intelligent type breaks, i was awed when i heard the laid back house beats he put down. Ive purchased this album for many birthdays and promoted it to even more. 3 years later i am still listening to this album at least once a week. Easily one of the most innovative house albums ive heard. We need more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely Worth it for....
......lovers of spacey house music. This is an excellent offering from a DJ , which I know very little of.....this is the first offering I have seen of his in print , and it has me wanting more.....the CD starts off with definite house beats , but after the 4th song , he kind of samples 'Black Science Orch....' to get the beat started in a different direction. Once he does then it really starts to get me back to the old 'Acid House' days. Wonderful CD for Spacey , Acid house music lovers.

5-0 out of 5 stars A superb album mixed with style and dexterity
Tom Middleton can do no wrong. OK so he's put his own fingerprint in there with an old-ish Global Communication track, but I've heard this album many times already, and on each listening the pleasure grows. The pace of beats are spot on as the mood of the album sways between jazzy and thump to sublime and chill-out. Without doubt a class above a majority of mix albums. This one has FEELINGS. Buy it, enjoy it, applaude it, I say.

5-0 out of 5 stars sublime house...
this is one excellent compilation. it is rhythmic, smooth, mellow and moving all at once. this one has been in heavy rotation here at work- and for good reason. middleton brings us really excellent music, and blends it up so smoothly- reminding everyone that mixing is much more than just matching beats. ...
