5-0 out of 5 stars Getting it "Twisted"
This is, quite simply, one of the very best compilations I've purchased. Virtually everything I like about dance music can be found on this double-disc compilation of the best club anthems from the Twisted label. We have hard-hitting house, thumping tribal beats, neo-disco, soulful vocals, and a dash of energy. The first disc is mainly tribal house; the best of the bunch is the stomping "New Creation" by Dolls Head (remixed by Barry Harris of Thunderpuss), the remix of "Body" by Funky Green Dogs, and Danny Tenaglia's "Music is the Answer" and "Elements." Disc Two is more house-oriented with less tribal and more soulful vocals. "Celeda" gets the mood right with "Happy," Prince Quick Mix's "Running Things," and a Club 69 remix of the Soft Cell classic "Tainted Love," which is the disc's sole non-house cut. For those who like a little soulful flava in their house, you have the last three cuts: "African Dream" from USL, "Believe" from The Timewriter, and club diva Suzanne Palmer on "It's My Life," the disc's closer. For your money, you get a serious bang for your buck, as this is a double disc collection of high quality material. Let these grooves "twist" you, and you won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars And the winner is?!
A tie. The consumer and TWISTED!!! The consumer wins because this is easily the best release from TWISTED. Disc 1 contains 15 tracks while disc 2 contains 13. Unlike most compilation discs every one of these songs is perfectly mixed and not one "DUD" on this release, leaving you wanting more.TWISTED wins by releasing this compilation as we near 2000, wondering "CAN THIS BE TOPPED". MY money says that they will!!!!! Buy this immediatly, you won't be sorry! We await Rob Di Stefano's next move.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS DOUBLE CD SET IS AMAZING!!!!!
Deep tribal grooves, sexy percussion, and moments of suspense and thrilling climaxes are what make this 2-CD set HOT!! Twisted put a lot of time into releasing this and it shows...from the detailed cd booklet with pictures of rare promos and album covers along with shots of the Twisted artists to the way the songs flow together with perfect timing of build-ups and climaxes! Any Twisted house head should do anything to get ahold of this incredible cd-set because there are 19 previously unreleased songs on here and some classics twisted into something new and creative! This is a GREAT ALBUM from the first eerie bells of "Hell's Bells" all the way to the dramatic soaring vocals of "It's My Life" and a true taste of the dark, drama-filled sounds of TWISTED!!

5-0 out of 5 stars WORTH it
You don't want to pass up this double CD. If you are familiar with the Twisted label, or with New York house music, expect to hear the best of the best when you load this CD. Even the songs that collectors might already have ("Elements" by Danny Tenaglia or "Body" by Funky Green Dogs, for example) have been significantly remixed and are worth the repeat purchase. But the vast majority of the tracks on both CDs are previously unreleased, and are exquisitely deep and funky. ... Read more

This is the compilation that gave birth to the series (up to volume 4 as of this writing). This album (and this series) is the best way I know to bring the sound of Chicago style dance music to you wherever you are.

I know it is hard to make a dance-album review useful, but we can at least say yeah. You get a great sample from some of the best dance mixers out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT JUNGLE MIX
I can remember the first time my friends and I heard Aphrodite at a rave.We were so suprised at how good his mixing sets were.If your looking for a good jungle dj to check,Aphrodite is about the best jungle cd you can get. Believe me,If you like jungle buy this cd.FOR REAL. A Big rave fan!

2-0 out of 5 stars if u really love dnb dont buy this!!
after hearing a few tracks by aphrodite i thought i should check him out and picked up this cd to my surprise his beats were repetitive and annoying i would not reccomend buying this cd if u like real jungle with hard hitting fast beats if u are looking for that kind of drum and bass i would suggest picking up AK1200 MIXED LIVE that is a great cd and i have seen him live he is great!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This album is a pure classic!
Nah, you can't touch this album. Aphrodite's forte is getting you onto the dance floor and making you dance. This album is full of infectious grooves. I absolutely love this album. If you are familiar with Aphrodite, you know that he is a master of jump-up, including smooth, funky, rolling basslines. It may be a simple formula but it is consistently hype. If you are looking for beat devolopment or beat research, this isn't what you want. But if you want bassed-out, summertime chillin', jump-up and dance jungle beats, then this is the cream of the crop! Anyway, keep in mind that Aphrodite is the best of the best when it comes to jump-up. It doesn't have to be complex to make the party hype, and he knows that. I'm very surprised by the negative reviews, this is definately one of the best jungle albums ever. You just have to keep in mind what this album is, and what it isn't........

2-0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm....
Although Aphrodite's mixing is flawless here, I found the tracks on this CD absolutely boring--every single one of them. I just can't understand why this rolling style, which is reminiscent of the majority of Drum N Bass today, is so popular. How can one find, "Boom Bat Boom-Boom Bat Boom Bat Boom-Boom Bat," looped over and over and over again interesting to listen and dance to?

Ok, people reading my review may think I just don't know DnB but they would be dead wrong. When I think of DnB (and jungle), names like Techincal Itch/Decoder, Amon Tobin, Boymerang, Flytronix, EZ Rollers, Dom & Roland, Ice Minus & Hardleaders, Renegade Hardware, Lemon D/Metalheadz, Photek, T Power, Ganja Kru, plus many many others come to mind. The majority of these people are following the main-stream today and producing tracks like you here on this CD. But there was a time when the music they made was fresh and creative, like Hidden Adgenda's "Pressin' On" or Lemon D's "12:01". Back then tracks didn't depend solely on the two/four step alone. Even recent tracks like "LED" by techitch have something more to offer than rolling breaks.

In any case, if you agree with me about contemporary DnB, avoid this CD at all costs. But If you think I'm dead wrong, this CD is for you :D

5-0 out of 5 stars one fo the best drum&bass cd produced
aphrodite really came through in this one! this album never stops, if you're a drum&bass purest like myself it is a must have in your cd collection, steady blowin up the dance floor. ... Read more

Roni Size didn't take jungle global the way he was supposed to (once again, club culture's unstoppable march halted at the U.S. border), but he certainly gave the under-sung Bristol scene a major boost. Though there are other branches of that scene--the Versatility and Technical Itch camps--most of it has coalesced around the related V Record and Full Cycle labels. V Classic is the first V compilation, and if it isn't as heady as Full Cycle's Music Box collection, it is still an announcement of a major alternative to London's dominance. Size kicks off with the much-played "It's Jazzy" (which, along with "It's a Jazz Thing," would lead many observers to assume he's a jazzhead, when in fact he's more a James Brown fan), followed by Goldie showing some respect by eerily remixing Size's "The Calling." The highlight, though, is DJ Krust's "Maintain," one of the few recent jungle tracks to put a female vocal front and center. Krust has been threatening to drop a monstrous debut album since 1997, and until it actually happens, all most of us have to go on are the dribs and drabs of brilliance doled out on 12-inch singles and the occasional compilation such as this. --Jeff Salamon ... 1-0 out of 5 stars no way
I'm sorry. I guess I'm the only one who hates this extremely boring, and very repetitive style of D'n'B. The artists spoon feed you the same pattern all the way through while cheesy sounds float around all over the place. All the songs on this cd make me dizzingly ill. The Ideas exist but they bore the heck out of you with the same thing over & over & over again, how uninteresting. And you people call that art? The music in itself all sounds very cheap. Please dont get me wrong cuz I love DB, but this stuff is just ridiculous. Altogether, It's just a darn shame drum and bass has to sound like this when we all know it has SO much potential.

Now, if you like D'n'B thats simply fun and yet artistic, get DJ DB's shades of technology. I listen to any music with some degree of artistic intelligence and that cd barely slides by alright. That should get your groove on and at the same time help you look at the many perspectives of D'n'B.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!
I love this cd! It is in my car disc changer right now! I was also lucky enought to hear this music live the night of. That's Right! I went to this Rave out in Los Angles at the Sports Arena the night of the New Year 1999! The party was Da Bomb with Bomb music. With AK1200 and others how can you pass this one up?

5-0 out of 5 stars More mastered styles than Chinese Kung Fu
This album is all over the place, and everywhere it goes, it is excellent. From the funky and jazzy style of Roni Size, to the hardstep melancholy of Dillinja, this album has it all. I thoroughly love this album, and I spin it frequently. Highlights--well, they are all highlights--include: Roni Size's jazzy "It's Jazzy" (hence the title) and funky "Only a Dream", Krust's bumping "Blaze Dis One", and Die and Suv's elastic bass on "War and Peace". And as if this wasn't enough, there are also fantastic contributions from Lemon D, Ray Keith, and others. This album is a guide to some of the most revolutionary music coming out of the UK today. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK, not outstanding...
I guess I didn't like this CD as much as some others. Maybe it's just not my brand of techno-dance music. It wasn't bad, but only a couple of the songs grabbed my interest much.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thumpin' House with a Dash of Techno Flava!
"Twist This ...," a mix CD by Peter Rauhofer of Club 69, isn't sure if it wants to be a house CD or a techno compilation, so it dabbles with both genres, resulting in a solid groove that doesn't disappoint. Peter gets the party started with the disco stomper "Drama," and takes us through a journey of synth bleeps, pulsating drums, and some vocals. Key tracks of note are the infectious "K Hole" by Sizequeen, the housed-up "Get This" by Superchumbo, and Yohan Square's "Love of Life." This mix isn't my favorite from the Twisted label, and it falls a bit short of the greatness of Volume 2, but those who like their dance music a cross between house, techno and a bit of tribal will find this CD purrfect!

4-0 out of 5 stars The original Twist this pussy!
Peter Rauhofer a.k.a. Club 69 delivers another Twisted America retro house CD. This one is the first in the two part series "Twist This Pussy." For those of you who follow my reviews, I've already reviewed volume 2. This series seems to be as retro if not more so than the "Twisted Secrets" series, previously reviewed. When I say retro, I mean a (heavy) trance influence while maintaining a house tempo. It's not trance but has many of the same elements.

Let me start off by saying this is not the best work I've heard from the artist. Peter Rauhofer is well known for his brand of house music and is one of the geniuses who worked hard in establishing "Twisted America", both as a DJ and producer. My first impression of this CD is mild, as the mix goes along but doesn't start jumping until midway through. Some of the early cuts in the set we've already heard before in other "Twisted America" works and I might add, the versions presented here seem to be the weakest yet. The set seems to come alive at track 8 and takes us on a deeper house journey. The latter half of the CD is full of tribal house rhythms mixed with deep, retro house. Without question the second half of the set saves this CD and actually elevates it to a pretty good mix. Sometimes you'll find multi-cd sets with a peak-hours and after-hours set. With this set you get it all in one mix, featuring a before-hours and then a peak-hours portion of the set. You'll have to decide for yourself how much you appreciate music selections arranged this way. Ultimately you'll find this set has the goods I like in house music, deep beats, quality mixing and a good music selection. The set clocks in at 74+ minutes so you get a good amount of music for your money. I can't really say which cuts I like most but I'll state for the record that the second part of the set is very much my style of house music. This isn't a set I'd recommend for the house music novice but if you've been in the house music scene for some time and are running out of titles to find, check this one out.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a good house mix with techno tracks
The mix is good.House music with very hard elements of techno rhythms. For me is that not of problem. The drives of techno in house music are great, but some techno and some house tracks in mix is not good.NYLX,Club69,Superchumbo,House Heros are really great.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my Favorite Techno CD's
This is a must must must buy CD! I love this CD. From the Club 69 cut of Drama, to Lula, it is just a reat CD to get ya moving..and what a great name for a CD...lol...makes me laugh! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Once again for this CD
None other than 11 long intervals of the funky collective.
This entitles you to git down wit it and go berzerk.
My favorites are "take my hand", "tippy toe", and "fireside favourite". I like Groove Armada better when theyre on Jive, but thats just me. Buy this and listen for yourself

3-0 out of 5 stars reasonably enjoyable groove confectionary
Five years of jacked up fireside funk from the tart little Tummy Touch label, all for five pounds (about nine bucks to us folks here). Can't beat that deal, hmm?

Possibly not. Tim 'Love' Lee waves the banner for sauced-up soul tunes that deftly veer from the smirking cloy puddles most other artists would step into. The smoothly stitched drum loops of 'Again Son' and southern fried trip hop of 'Go Down Dixie' rise above out-in-leftfield novelty value for surefire keepers. Tutto Matto 'Take My Hand,' all horn stabs and falsetto croon, perhaps best exemplifies the label's designs, while Los Chicharrons 'Chicharrons n Boogaloo' is pure party frippery waiting for a beer ad.

The rest of the bag tend to rely on attitude and DIY cut & paste aesthetic rather than crafting lasting music. Reasonably enjoyable...perhaps an album can indeed just get by as groove confectionery.

5-0 out of 5 stars TOUCH YOUR TUMMY FIRST THEN PROCEED FROM THERE
This compilation celebrates five years of survival for the dance label, Tummy Touch, out of London. My only prior exposure to Tummy was through Groove Armada's fabulous first full release, "Northern Star". Not yet able to find room in my budget to purchase other of the label's artists such as Tim "Love" Lee, Mescalito, Organic Audio, and Tutto Matto (all collected here), I splurged at a bargain basement price on "I Am Fearless, Funky & Five". This compilation will give any one itching for the absolute freedom of the groove deep, deep satisfaction and also the opportunity to expose oneself to a handful of some of the most gifted and aesthetically sound dance artists out there. There are two stellar cuts from the Groove Armada debut and two from Mr. Lee's pair of CD's with the other nine representing the rest of the Tummy Touch stable. Every track is ablaze and unusual with Italian duo, Tutto Matto's "Take My Heart" capable of making girls and boys all over the world do things on the dance floor they only dream of doing. Sex and love and funk and soul abound. Great disc for the scantily clad or any fetishist you might know. As an added bonus, unfold the inner sleeve and play the board game, "Nudo" with some very "close" friends. I can only imagine how good this disc will sound over and over again on a long, hot summer night.

5-0 out of 5 stars straight up funky vibes

that thing making me twitch is this CD. You want to dance. Very clean mix...Not every song is a fave, but those that are suck your ears dry. Transitions sometimes a little long, but they do manage to show off Levy's skills and besides, give you segues that set you up for a slow yet delicious delivery. Several stand out tracks are: 8, 11, 12. Makes you remember Levy..hey, Keoki thanks him on Inalienable Alienation! It's in line with this Keoki kind of vibe. Nice. 5-0 out of 5 stars This should be required listening
A fine compilation from a fine roster of artists. Each track is a good representation of the respective artists, from the darkness of Plastikman to the atmospherics of Darren Emerson to the goosebump-inducing sounds of Speedy J. For anyone interested in either expanding their musical horizons or just getting a great bunch of tracks in one package, this is highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Techno at it's finest
Novamute, the electronic side of Mute records, emerged around the early 90's. it took under it's wing such amazing techno acts around (JB3, Fawn, Steve Stoll, et al.) on This record you get a sample of the great techno that novamute has. Luke slater has ambient electronic dreamscapes with freek funk. Joey Beltram (JB3)'s forklift is astonishing techno. you have to hear it to believe it . If you want pure techno listen to steve stoll. This guy was once an army guy in desert storm and he had a brief stint in KMFDM. He is amazing. Also listen to Fawn's "Vengeance" (This is my favorite). This wil no doubt get you off your feet. In conclusion, check this album out. you will be surprised at the performance that lesser known elcectronica outfits showcase. also check out the parent label, Mute which has such outstanding DJs like Paul Van Dyk, and the amazing Moby. you can't go wrong. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars left field, centered
Hanging five and walking the nose, Luke Solomon and Justin Harris go the edge, redefine left field. Musical antics supplied in plenty. Zany choices for their first mix compilation CD include artist: DMR, Doc L. Jnr, C++, Detox Twins, Easygoing, Hans Nieswandt, and Markus Nikolai. The thread of cohesion is a relentless bass as bottom. Choice cuts could possibly be Freaks own "Turning Orange (Losoul Mix)" and Deep Touch - "Touchin' U". Never to settle for complacency, Music For Freaks turn out different and "out-of-kilter" as a creative trademark. Lassoing musical nuances into an accessible whole, the end result is quite contagious. Catch it, buy your copy today, and enjoy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A compilation that stands the test of time
This album is a great purchase. Originally purchased in 96 when it came out, still listen to it very often, never get bored or overplay it. it's great! The songs are very mellow and a testament to original ambient. FilaBrazillia's track is incredible and over all this album has lead me to buyseveral other albums by the artists as well as more of the freezone series(there are 6). I definitely recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars brilliant music for parties & driving
perfect background music, can be listened to again and again - it never gets boring. Style? something between techno, ambient, drum&bass, sometimes a bit jazzy. if you like cafe del mar, better check out the wholecollection - you will love it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A defining album of Progressive Trance!
Progressive Trance has become the staple of underground techno for the last couple of years and Taylor, LA's #1 DJ, has created a basic dietary supplement to the serious collector of Progressive Trance. In the tradition of Chris Lawrence, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, and John Digweed (who all use tracks created by Taylor), here is what the other DJ's listen to when they're sportin' around in their rides. Features Union Jack and Taylor's "Slide" (which can be found on Chris Lawrence presents Hook Recordings). I have worn this one out, yet am constantly returning to it time and again...

5-0 out of 5 stars THE #1 TRANCE DJ IN AMERICA
As a friend and long time fan of Taylor's, I must admit some bias but this cd truly represents his style and delivers something different from the rest of the trance discs on the market. Other people have dismissed it as repetitive but it really has more change-ups and diversity than over 70% of the dance cds available. If you are an American trance fan, this cd is a must. It features just about every style of trance; Breaks, progressive, hard, epic, and a bit of Goa. If you like the United DJs series, you'll need this one too. Taylor is an original and you should never miss a chance to experience him live.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is why he is my favorite dj
My best bud saw taylor with the crystal method and told me he was the only dj he would pay good money to see again. He told me I had to buy this cd,and i havent heard a better one since. His songs are very original (its not like you would ever here energy 52 on it!) The builds are long, but when they break they just leave you thinking "hell yeah!". Paul Oakenfold is good, but honestly, half of the songs on Tranceport can be found on like, ten other cds i own. Although I will rate Taylor as high as Sasha,John Digweed, and Kimball Collins ( a legend in his own right)i have had it stolen twice, and i don't mind dishing a little extra money to get, just so that i have it. It is by far the best cd i have ever heard. The last song "the Other Side" is by far the most beautiful song i have heard. It truly defines epic trance. And I can't get enough of "Get Down To My Technique" I am proud to say that Taylor is my Favorite Dj. When he came to houston i was fortunate enough to get to watch his whole set on stage with him and hang out with him. His set is a model of what a great set should be. If he ever comes to your city, don't miss him! you wont be disappointed by this cd or him live!

1-0 out of 5 stars WEAK!
All of these guys are saying that "This is the best trance cd ever," it really is not. If you want good proggresive trance, lissen to Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Okenfold, Christopher Lawerence or Paul Van Dyke, The list goes on and on. This cd is not mixed well and only has two good tracks, Taylor's "Slide" and The Light's "Expand the Room." Trust me, if you REALLY like trance, don't buy this c.d.

2-0 out of 5 stars Over rated!
This CD is over rated, the mix set is too repetitive and it sounds like the same thing over and over again on each track. The Lights "Expand the room and Taylors "Slide" are amazing tracks! thats what the two stars are for. If you want to lissen to good progressive trance, lissen to Sasha's global underground 3 and 6. Also, Sahsa and John Digweed's Northern Exposer cd's (all of them) are a good buy, along with Paul Okenfold's Tranceport and Arcade America's Trance Global Nation 2. There are so manny great trance cd's out there that I could go on forever, this cd is not one of them. ... Read more
