5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Dark & Harsh Electro Industrial
DBoG may be the best starting point for :W: newbies. It is a combination of 2 EPs, 'Gomorrha' and 'Dried Blood', that were originally released separately. These are the songs that got people into the band in the 1st place and they still hold up well over time.

"Black Death" is one of the hardest songs you will hear in any genre, but it is highly original too. Trippy, eerie synths backed by spoken female French lyrics build too an angry frenzy of hyper-fast guitars, beats and Rudy's screamed vocals. "Body Parts" contains some of the most bombastic percussion available anywhere. "Funeral Diner" features a Chinese sample loop taken from an 'X-Files' episode that is both creepy and catchy. "Turns Off Pain" is a great song offering a twisted take on love and relationships.

There are no bad songs on this release actually. If you like industrial but haven't heard :W: then get this. If you listen to American crossover industrial garbage then it's time you start listening to some of the real stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
This is :wumpscut: so you know it has to be good. Although Rudy's later work, such as Eevil Young Flesh is not as good as his earlier albums. But, I can assure you that if you are an existing :wumpscut: fan, this cd will not disapoint you. Other killer :W: releases are Music For A Slaugtering Tribe, and Embryodead.

5-0 out of 5 stars WELCOME WELCOME.. TO THE FUNERAL DINER!
This album is a compilation of what was two seperate singles, "Dried Blood" and "Gomorraha". Together they make a wonderful compilation.. All of these are powerful and MUST HAVE :Wumpscut: songs.. If you're familiar with only bands such as NIN and other industrial bands, you NEED to give this and other :W: albums a listen.. they will _BLOW_YOU_AWAY!_

4-0 out of 5 stars Begin slowly and enter into a grinding assault.
Not bad, Not bad at all. Gothic Industrial. Gentle intros and rattling endings. An experience. ... Read more

Containing the almighty industrial anthem "Psyche-Out," 99% is a hallmark of industrial music. It's an electronic call to arms, yet it has a quieter, more subversive energy than most industrial music. Meat Beat Manifesto always have something to say, and they're great at subliminally planting their message in your brain while blistering your feet with infectious, hip-hop-influenced grooves. If there were ever a testimonial that electronic music can be timeless, this CD is it. --Beth Bessmer ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This album is the worst of MBM
But still it is worth a listen. The lyrics are so stupid, I couldn't bear it. Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto is the most talented musician I know of. Each album is completely different and pleasant, except for this one. Jack is obviously a sample hog, collecting interesting voice samples from the strangest places and then using them wisely. He sings well, and lives up the group's name with good, meaty rhythms. I own the entire collection of MBM albums and enjoy them often.

4-0 out of 5 stars 100% Solid blend of Techno, Funk, Industrial & Hip-hop!
They've been around, and here's one of the brightest beginnings for this very influential band. "Psyche Out" on this release, it jams from the get-go through the end. My first Meat Beat Manifesto album was actually Satyricon (still my favorite)and here I can see the roots of that album begin to blossom.

The only slight disappointment is the sound QUALITY of the CD. I'm not sure why, but the album sounds a bit flat & distorted (like comparing mp3s to true wav files). If you have a forgiving ear that doesn't notice the difference between a song off of the radio vs a CD, then it won't matter. This is a jem worth getting! Highlights are "Now," "Psyche Out," and "Deviate." They've got some soul for a bunch of white boys.

2-0 out of 5 stars Probably MBM's worst album
I bought this CD like four or five years ago and it has never sat quite right with me. MBM is capable of making excellent music, but I agree with George (below) - this is probably Jack Danger et al.'s worst album. The lyrics on the album are awful and the soundscapes/beats can be unlistenable at times ("Psyche-Out" probably beating any other song on the album for being obnoxious). Some tracks are good like "Now", "Hello Teenage America" and "Helter Skelter". Jack's only previous album "Storm the Studio" is far better than this, and being a huge fan of MBM (I own all their albums with the exception of their newest, RUOK?) I must say that anyone who is just recently becoming a fan of MBM should not buy this album. I would recommed Satyricon or Storm the Studio if you want to hear their old stuff - this album should only be purchased for the sake of completing a collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Meat Beat's finest hour.
This is my personal favorite MBM album, and it's the favorite of many other people as well. This was the last of the industrial/hip-hop flavored early MBM recordings before the later recordings took on a more groove laden and psychedelic sound. It was also after this album that Jack Dangers' rapping on MBM albums began to diminish somewhat. If you ever thought there was no such thing as a good white rapper, check out Jack's flow on the first 3 or 4 MBM albums and you may feel differently.

As is characteristic of MBM records, the album is full of samples, but the samples here are more interesting than on previous albums. There are more dialog snippets being sampled here whereas before it was mostly musical samples. This album is also full of industrial-dance beats and rhythms, more so than on previous works. This album kicks from beginning to end. The tracks that stand out are "Now", "Psyche-Out", "Hello Teenage America", and "10X Faster Than The Speed of Love". I definitely recommend this or Storm The Studio as a starting point to anyone interested in MBM.

5-0 out of 5 stars brilliant piece
while bordering at times to hip-hop, pop or whatever, the ridiculously harsh beats and angst-ridden growls quickly eliminate any doubts this is industrial. ... Read more

While their compilation Retro is a worthwhile introduction for newcomers, KMFDM's contemporaneous release, Agogo, is more directly aimed at longtime fans. Composed of B-sides, compilation tracks, and remixes, the disc provides a glimpse at the more esoteric side of one of today's most earnest industrial bands. "Godlike," produced by Ministry cofounder Paul Barker, is a full-throttle adrenaline-fest that steals drum programming from Ministry's thunderous "Thieves"; "Virus-Dub" and "Rip the System" explore and spoof various facets of reggae music; and "Mysterious Ways" is a slinky and surprisingly reverential tribute to Irish superstars U2. Of course, even devoted fans could do without the hastily assembled Hellraiser III cut "Ooh La La" and the Scott Burns metal mix of "Hole in the Wall," but overall, Agogo is a worthwhile investment for the aficionado who needs everything. --Jon Wiederhorn ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Where the hell did they keep these tracks hidden?!
When I bought this "bootlegs and B-sides" CD I didn't expect the same quality music that KMFDM normally puts out. I figured, "There must be a reason why KMFDM kept these tracks hidden from the general populous..."

Turns out, this CD is most excellent! The cheesiness and simplicity of these tracks actually sounds, well...GOOD. My favorite song on this album is their take on the bouncy Euro-techno scene that drove them sick, "Naff Off" "Ooh La La" though obviously hastily created, sounds very good, and the U2 cover "Mysterious Ways" has a good performance by my man En Esch. The metal version of "Hole In The Wall" and the uncut version of "Virus" were also some honorable mentions.

KMFDM put this compilation together for their loyal fans through the years. So, if you're a fan of the late ultra-heavy-beat band, check this out. You won't regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars if you don't have this, you aren't a KMFDM fan
AGOGO, KMFDM's rarities album, is perhaps their most daring release yet. I find it incredible that they would admit to making "Rip The System". However, that song is the only weak point of this whole album. "Thank You" is a mere 45 seconds, but it's a harrowing 45 seconds. "Godlike" and "Virus-Dub", though totally different ("Godlike" is metallic, while "V-D" is reggae), are great tracks. "Rip the System" and "Naff Off" are bizarre experimental pieces, "Naff Off" being the better of the two. "Mysterious Ways" is a strangely faithful version of the U2 song. "Ooh La La" is a dadaist track from "Hellraiser 3". The "Hole In the Wall" remix is more hard than the original, and "Agogo" is an industrial-jazz-funk-instrumental piece (believe it!). Finally, there is the great lost "Zip"! This song is now seeing the light of day after 13 years, adn its dadaist appeal isn't lost. All in all, a great album. You don't get it, you might as well tell KMFDM to go to hell.

3-0 out of 5 stars Strap on your Agogo boots and go for a ride
This is a wonderful collection of rare tracks from one of my favorite bands. The cover of U2'S "Mysterious Ways" far surpasses the original. And "Zip" is probably one of the most hilarious songs I have ever heard. I am not a guy, but I can only imagine what it would be like to get my caught in the zip of my pants. Although other than these two priceless tracks the rest of the album is not all that great. But if you are a KMFDM fan, and desire to have a complete collection be sure to pick this up.

3-0 out of 5 stars not their best
I like KMFDM a lot but Agogo is not the best work I have seen the band do. Their other albums have a higher level of intensity and creativity then Agogo. It just seems that Agogo was but toghether by their record company knowing that it would be one the last times they would be able knowing that the band would break up soon. There are good songs on here like the cover of U2's mysterious ways and is defenetely good for the die-hard KMFDM fans

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool mixes
This album rocks, but with the exception of two songs: "Thankyou" and "Zip". Both those songs are really dumb. The rest of the album, however, is great. "Godlike" is the heaviest mix of "Godlike" that I've ever heard; "Agogo" is really funky; "Virus-Dub" is awesome, it's got a cool Carribean beat to it, and it's way better than "Virus-Pestillence"; "Hole In The Wall" is okay, but I've heard better mixes; "Naff Off" is really good; and the mix of "Rip The System" is mediocre (it's a bad song anyway). Basically get this album for "Godlike", "Virus-dub", "Naff Off", and "Agogo". ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good dance music
I've listened to this CD about 8 times now. There are several songs on this CD that I like but I can't say that any song grabbed me like the "Avalost" on the CD "Traveling" or "Exoricze" and "Traveling" on the CD "No Sleep Demon". The music on this album has a nice danceable beat to it but I don't believe any of the songs on the album will replace "Avalost" as my favorite Seabound song.

My favorite songs on the CD right now are "Contact", "Soul Driver", "Poisonous Friend", and "Go International". I'd give these songs a rating of about 3 1/2 to 4 stars. "Contact", "Poisonous Friend" and "Go International" have the same level of dance energy as "Exoricize" and "Traveling". "Soul Driver" is a slower song like "Avalost".

Overall I'd give the CD a rating of 3 1/2 to 4 stars since there aren't any duds on the album that you'll want to skip. Furthermore, there are enough songs on the album that I like that I don't feel like I wasted my money buying the CD.

If you haven't listen to Seabound before I'd recommend checking them out. They are definetly a band that I will be following for many years to come.

3-0 out of 5 stars Can be mellow at times, but holds it's own
Beyond Flatline is Seabound's sophomore release, and is a blend of pure electronic music, clear vocals, and danceable beats. Of the ten tracks on the album, the only songs which really stand out are the high bpm songs...Transformer, Contact, Poisonous Friend, and Go International. The rest are of the slower, quieter type of synthpop that isn't all that stimulating. As a result, I was somewhat disappointed with it since I favor a more high energy pace. Despite my gripes, fans of Covenant, Devision, and Wolfshiem should definitely look into this album. It's a great start for the band, and there's at least enough to warrant a listen for anyone into electronic music.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but flawed
i found this cd to be unique but at the same time dull... some of the songs just seemed like the have been done already. anyway i will give a quick review of each song..

01. Tranformer 9/10
((great opener, gives you the feeling that your at a ocean))
02. Contact 8/10
03. Soul Diver 7/10
04. Digital 6/10
05. Poisonous Friend 9/10
((great song gives you the feelin that someone is stalking you))
06. Separation 7/10
07. Torch 8/10
08. Go International 8/10
((hate the lyrics but the song is extremely catchy somehow))
09. Watching Over You 8/10
10. Icarus 7/10
((i love the beat, makes you feel like moving forward in life))

all in all i would give this cd 7 out of 10 stars... while its definitley better then your average new EBM release.. its still flawed and boring at times. definite stand outs for me are Transformer & Poisonous Friend. only reccomended if your a big fan of the genre.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rising Band - One of Electro's Best in 2004
Seabound have quickly established themselves as a power within the underground electro scene. A quick listen to 'Beyond Flatline', their 2nd release, will show you why. Seabound creates atmosphere quite well. Right off the bat, "Transformer" generates a watery wash that recalls Forma Tadre from 'Navigator'. OK, so the vocalist will remind you of others in the scene, but you can forgive that. "Contact" buzzes with industrialized percussion and shifts between distorted vox and clean vocals during the chorus to very cool effect. "Soul Diver" is sparse and minimal without growing tiresome. Pace picks up a bit around the chorus to change things up. The obvious futurepop smash is "Poisonous Friend", whose lyrical refrain would make Depeche Mode proud. This is clearly the cleanest and catchiest piece on the album. Masterful.

Here we are at the midpoint of the disc - let's see if they can keep up the mo. Wait, first let's play "Poisonous Friend" again... "You frighten me - it's getting harder to conceal - you spy on me - all my secrets are revealed". Alrighty then - thanks for indulging me. "Separation" takes another step in the minimal direction and does it successfully. Gee, I hate to play the comparison game too much (and even worse - to agree with other reviewers too much), but this really will remind you of Covenant. Then there's "Go International" - OK I swear Covenant released this as a single. Didn't they? Anyway this is groovy as hell. The album ends wonderfully with "Icarus", a multi-layed piece that is complex yet danceable.

After just 2 albums, Seabound have vaulted into the upper echelon of electro / futurepop / industrial dance (OK so you name it then... the Goth Industrial Military Complex... how's that?). One of this year's best!

4-0 out of 5 stars The greatest band that sounds like Covenant but isn't...
This album is great. You should get it. It's not the best album you'll ever buy from the Metropolis Records catalog, but it will definitely satisfy you. There are some dark songs, there are some dancey songs, there are some really sad songs. This band sounds quite a bit like the latest Covenant album. If you liked that one, you'll like this. Good luck buying this CD. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Accomplishments And The Rites of Three
After finding myself ensnared by the mastery of Failure and the depths of the sorrow it conveyed, I wasn't quite certain that a new Assemblage 23 album could measure up to the high standard its former namesake set. When I purchased it, however, I opted to keep an open mind and let those high hopes reside with me because Contempt had been great before Failure had eclipsed it. Anyhow, after receiving my disc and greedily lapped up song after tasty song, I saw my concern was all for naught because, it was still a successful outing that could hold its own with many of the works available.

Many people can be cited as saying that this isn't another Failure, insinuating that that was a mark against its triumph when, in fact, I would stray against that opinion. In fact, I would say that Tom Shear's newest attempt is argumentably in league with his last two releases, with songs reflecting the duality of emotion and the multifunctional aspects of that organ called a heart, drifting through sorrowful plateaus and seething forests of words that seem to encompass the human condition. Beginning with "Opened," an almost prophetic response about the rights of perception and being victimized by sight, and winding into "Drive," an emotional proclamation that douses reasoning into the sorrowful plights that sometimes find us chasing demons away behind the wheel, it is apparent that we once again find ourselves on that emotive freight train that Shear so masterfully constructs. Furthering this is the lyrical craftsmanship lent to songs like Cocoon and Lullaby, two of his more memorably polished vocal outings, and in the proclamation that he is leaving behind a legacy with his works in the song Document.

While I would recommend any of Assemblage 23's works to the listening masses and would hope that the memorization that quality craftsmanship induces would be allowed to lurk into your mind, I also understand that there are oceans of opinions out here holding up all sorts of ill-advised banners. So, if you still doubt whether you would like it, see what is available to listen to here or see what Metropolis has for your previewing pleasure. It will not disappoint.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as successful as Failure!
Call me morbid, but I do not like normal techno on the account that it is too happy. Tom Shear's Assemblage 23 project is not usually called happy, primarily because its best album was about suicide. Failure, the previous album, mixed moderately hard beats with much foreboding and quite dramatic synth work, creating a feel of "Depeche Mode minus the Prozac". However, even though Defiance manages to show musical mastery of the electronic medium, it manages to be so damn happy that it is hard to tell that it is Tom Shears work.

Industrial Dance Music (aka EBM) is basically a mixture of Industrial and Synthpop. Defiance is heavily based upon the synthpop from its synthesizers, and neglects (for the most part), the beats and hardness of its Industrial side. As a result, it feels quite similar to recent Apoptygma Berzerk, and not an angsty depression-fest like the previous album.

Even though it isnt sufficiently Industrial for my taste, I will concede that the synthwork is as good as Failure, and just as beautiful. However, the happier feel of Defiance seems to negate much of the foreboding mood generated by Failure. However, it is certainly not all bad, in fact there are some utterly brilliant tracks, these being Document, and Drive, each of these managing to be as good as Failure's tracks, and almost as dark in mood.

Overall, if you found Failure too angsty then this album will work for you, but on a musical level, it isnt as powerful nor moody. 3 1/2 stars

4-0 out of 5 stars uplifting?
is it just me or is this quite a step towards positive, as compared to the depressive contempt and failure? i actually like this cd the best out of all 3 albums. he voice seems to have finally lifted and doesnt sound so much like a robot anymore!

1-0 out of 5 stars EBM = Dance music for the simple minded
I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend anybody, but to say that the best Artists that EBM has to offer are 2-Dimentional would be giving them too much credit. I thought I saw a wee bit of hope in Assemblage 23's Failure, but then he came out with this garbage. Failure would be a better suited title for this album...
If anyone is interested in listening to Intelligent Dance music filled with Depth and Emotion, I highly suggest looking into PsyTrance (often referred to as the next evolutionary step from EBM/Industrial)... The debut album from Eskimo would be a good start.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hard to rate. Some great, weird songs but weird compared to?
This is the first collection of music I didn't know how to describe because I haven't heard music like this before. Is this music good? Well, some songs ("Set Controls For Heart of The Sun") are awesome and capture the trippy, surreal qualities of PINK FLOYD at their finest. Others, well, not so good...
Unlike one reviewer, I am not dismissing this music just because it lacks familiar elements in rock music like the electric guitar, etc. Actually, I find the use of different instruments (or just strange use of keyboards) very refreshing. Songs like the strong opener are brilliantly executed and respectful of the original sound being mimicked. Where I had some trouble enjoying was when the song was completely unrecognizable from the original like "Another Brick in the Wall." Luckily, the rest are better.

Like PINK FLOYD, the singing is not the main emphasis. I found the fact that most of the songs were rather lengthy a bold and intriguing concept. I have to "tip my hat" to the artists for picking lesser-known songs and playing to such magnitude. The songs that stand out (besides "Set Controls" that I already stated is wonderful) are "Interstellar Overdrive," "Hey You," (best vocals), "Careful With That Axe, Eugene," "Lucifer Sam," "Let There Be More Light," and "Saucerful of Secrets" because there is a nice mixture of the old song structure and the newer method of music style. Worth noting is the humorous and clever "tribute" to "Several Species of Small Furry Animals." I was disappointed in "On The Run" (somehow, just not quite right) and "Echoes" because of the unsettling vocals upsetting the balance of the beautiful music (unlike "Set the Controls" which keeps the spiritual-like qualities throughout). Others are worth a listen. Not since the album "Sgt Pepper Knew My Father" have I heard as interesting a tribute to well known rock musicans and their songs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tributes aren't about recreation
I'm rambling, but I think you guys are missing the point. This is one of my favourite Cleopatra ribute albums because you don't have to hear Pink Floyd. If you're a Pink Floyd fan and know that no one can do it better, then don't bother. These bands add new life to very tired songs (admit it man!). For the person who thought Floyd was a "rock band" go back and listen to the mid-period releases from Meddle, More, Obscured, Atom Heart etc. that is the period that is covered mostly by this disc anyway. There are loads of soundscapes and electronic elements represented in those original albums. In these (mostly) ambiant covers those aspects are really brought out. The melodies are generally carried, or maybe just a keyboard flourish from the original. All of the songs are certainly reconizable to any Floyd fan (well maybe except the Gessin track which isn't a Floyd song at all). Those that do try to come closer to the originals, or those that venture into the later period of radio staples, don't work as well and are sure to annoy Floyd fans as well as casual listeners. "Set the Controls" should floor everyone though. That's a nifty version that beats out the original.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly a great tributary
Like any compilation album, you don't wind up liking every band/song. But the great thing about this tribute album is that there are enough artists with their own take on Floyd - some very original versions of Floyd songs that aren't on the radio. If you're a fan of the band's history (but not stuck in history), then you'll like this album.

1-0 out of 5 stars An Insult to Pink Floyd is a more appropriate title!
Are you kidding me!! Pink Floyd are a rock band. Nowhere on this so called Tribute album (of bands and artists I have never even heard of) did I hear a guitar, or a drum only electronic noise. I don't know what kind of music you classify this as but it is [not good]....

As I listened to this CD I grew angrier and angrier desperately waiting for a song that sounded vaguely simular to a Pink Floyd song but it never happened.

There are much better tribute albums out there - try An Allstar lineup performing the songs of Pink Floyd it is miles better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Broad range of style and talent
Overview: This 2-disc tribute to Pink Floyd features a range of styles. Some of the songs aren't done very well, but the great ones more than make up for them. This is the best PF tribute album I've found.

DISC 1

Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun: This is a "spookier" version of the original, with a kind of aboriginal sound to it. A very good start.

Another Brick in the Wall I and II: Not very good. The vocal section sounds like a hiphop experiment gone badly awry. Fortunately, the instrumental portion of the song is a lot longer. It has a very watery, electronic sound to it.

One of These Days: An electronic version with a great beat. Sounds like something off of the "Run Lola Run" soundtrack.

Wots ... Uh the Deal: Excellent. Slower and dreamier than the original.

Interstellar Overdrive: Take the original and replace the guitars with synthesizers. Not bad, but nothing special.

Learning to Fly: Very dark ... sounds a bit like one of Marilyn Manson's slower songs.

To Roger Waters, Wherever You Are: Silly. Some guy ranting in a cave fades into electronic bagpipes and then back again.

Jugband Blues: Nice rendition of Syd Barrett's last song with the band. A bit faster and happier, though, so it loses the labored and tragic undertone that made the original powerful.

On the Run: Electronic version that works very well.

DISC 2

Echoes: A nice remake. A bit spacier than the original, it puts a new spin on the song by incorporating some nature sounds.

Hey You: Once again, spacier than the original. While it lacks the punch of the guitar solo from the original, the electronic sound works very well for this song.

Careful with that Axe, Eugene: A nice segue from the mellow first two tracks into the louder songs on the disc. Starts off quiet and slowly picks up a nice beat.

Lucifer Sam: The electronic bass sound just can't compare to the raw sound of the original.

Pigs on the Wing: Imagine the original, except sung through a static-y megaphone.

Let There Be More Light: Instruments and vocals sound very close to the original ... until they change a couple of the words for some reason.

Young Lust: Not very good ... the poor singing really hurts this track.

A Saucerful of Secrets: A nice instrumental that manages to bring a new sound to the song while remaining true to the original.

Point Me at the Sky: Very spacey version of this lesser-known song. Manages to sound like something out of the 60's. Very good.

The Nile Song: Decent, but nothing great. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Nap time music.
This does have its moments that give a vague reminder of earlier :W: songs, so I'm not going to say that this was a horrible album, but it did bore me pretty bad. I seriously can't believe that this was the same project that did Music For A Slaughtering Tribe. Unless you like slow and soft Industrial I'd leave this album alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars 12 tracks to tingle your spine!
12 tracks to tingle your spine!
When you think of Germany you think blonds, small towns with intricate structure, excellent cutlery, and now Wumpscut.

Wumpscut is a name that is well known in the underground electronic/dance music scene, and has been around since 1991. In 1996 the folks over at Metropolis were so impressed with the acceptance of these folks in both Europe and the US underground dance scene, they decided to welcome them with open arms and spread the love that can only be called Wumpscut. With their most recent release "Bone Peeler" you too can now feel the love.

"I've seen much of the world... It is Brutal and cruel and dark" - These are the words that greet you when you begin this most excellent CD. And let me just reiterate that this CD IS Brutal, cruel and dark. And I mean that in the most respectable way. I really enjoyed this injection of electronic composition. Now, don't let the word "electronic" deter you. Wumpscut have found the perfect balance between eerie, abrasive lyrics and electronic music. Even if you're not into the Electronic or dance scene you are really going to dig this latest CD.

The cover and booklet for this CD just oozes horror. The artwork of Scott Craig (cancerbox.com) brings an excellent blend of horrifying images that leave your mind to wander in your own sick and twisted psyche. With images of cadavers, x-rays, skulls, and medical instruments that can only be imagined as being in hand of a mortician, jump starts the mood for the journey that Wumpscut will take you away on.

Marilyn Manson could take a few lessons from Rudy Ratzinger, whose vocals you will hear on all tracks except "Last Salute", which instead features his "lifeblood" Clara. The lyrics along with the music on this CD give that grated angry feel, with out the screaming. Who would have known that could be done! Not only that, there are excellent hooks, percussion, and kick ass sequences. Bottom line? I was way impressed with this album, and I strongly urge you get your hands on it.

2-0 out of 5 stars For Shame, Rudy...
I was highly disappointed by this release. If you want something decent, pick up a previous disc, because this one is seriously lacking in everything that makes Wumpscut worth listening to. "Scavenger" is the only redeeming feature on this CD, and really, it's not all that spectacular. Listening to Bone Peeler is like opening a bottle of your favorite soda and finding out it's flat.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Material Will Leave Yov Pleased
I enjoy all of Rudy's work from Bunkertor 7 to Wreath of Barbs, but to be honest I find his newer work much more compeling. Definitly not as harsh in tone as an album like Embryodead, it's a little bit faster paced than Rudy's last CD. Though still very dark and agressive it comes off more artistic than his earlier releases and thus I enjoy it very much. Bone Peeler manages to sound less repetitive and much more consistent in quality than his older works witch does wonders for the full effect of the album. Some stand out songs would include "Crown of Thorns", "And Life Goes On", and my favorite "In the Peace of Night" which is brilliant for throughout it's eight minute run time.

If you enjoy Wreath of Barbs or are just a huge :wumpscut: fan then pick this up. You won't be disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars What I expected, but not bad at all
Rudy's new album is very good. He uses some more of that computerized voice effect that he used on the Wreath Of Barbs track. Its not as dark or harsh as EmbryoDead(which I liked best) but its not all that bad either. Its a lot slower as far as beats go and of course its evil as hell. The booklet contains pictures of someones hands grabbing at their torn stomache. The lyrics are evil as usual too which is good. The only thing I didnt like about the album is that it doesnt hit any new ground. The sounds are similar and the songs dont give me goosbumps like past masterpieces i.e. Bunker Gate 7 or EmbryoDead. Maybe its just because I havent had a chance to listen to the album several times yet, to get the full feel effect. One thing is for sure its good mood music, perfect for a dark evening or Halloween, or if youre like me...anytime. Its a new full length Wumpscut so I'm not complaining. If youre looking for a faster harsher, more evil Wumpscut, this isnt it. Its a slower, quieter, but still evil Wumpcut. Highlight tracks are Crown of Thorns, Our Fatal Longing, Just A Tenderness(that title sounds funny to me), and In the Peace of Night. Not for newcomers, but longtime Wumpscut fans(like me) will be happy. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Play More Consolidated!
This is one of my favorite albums. Although the audience clips seem to annoy some of the reviewers, I found them interesting and at times, hilarious. It gives the ambience of "being there" without the feel of a live record.

The high points on this album are "Veggie Beat Manifesto," "The Men's Movement" (which juxtaposes chauvanism and professional wrestling), "Industry Corporate" (in which they take on their detractors and happily announce "We're not Fugazi!"), and the club-friendly female empowerment song, "You Suck" with the Yeastie Girls.

Like your industrial music with a side order of politics and tongue-in-cheek humor? This is definately the album for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars an inspiring album
This is an important album as it documents a segment of sample-based music that should take a space in music history alongside the politically and socially relevant compositions of Public Enemy and KRS-ONE. In the early 90s, when most so-called "alternative" and "punk" music had dozed off into an apolitical stupor, Consolidated was one of the most intriguing bands. They invited debate with live audiences and passed mics around -- probably the only real innovation in live rock in decades. Their political focus was well-documented. But most often overlooked by the squeamish white press was the fact that the instrumental aspect of Consolidated's music is accomplished and exhilarating. In their heyday, no one was indifferent to Consolidated. With the latest Bush administration, their early 90s music has, sadly, become equally relevant in 2002.

1-0 out of 5 stars Play more of this crap?
Sanctimonious as a concept does not begin to describe the sheere stupidity of this crap. "I'm white, so, implicitly, I'm guilty by virtue of my race for all the ills of society," they seem to be chanting with every lame rhyme and butchered metaphore. Stop making this crap you claim to be music and read a book you ignorate jerks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing music!
I just picked up this CD and I was completely blown away by it. I don't care much for hip hop, or rap music ( especially music by so-called white rappers ) But Consolidated is the exception. Their music and message is powerful. They take aim at cruelty to animals, anti abortion nonsense, the NRA, & racial issues. Play More Music is not just one of the best CD's of the 90's, but of any decade.

3-0 out of 5 stars Play Less Audience.
Ah, Consolidated. Difficult to find a more ernest bunch of gigaPC "rappers." I agree with their message and enjoy their music, but history has left them hanging. I now find listening to their albums provokes some humor at their oh-so-serious attempt to make their audience do something other than buy CD's.

This album has too many tracks of the audience complaining to listen to straight through. It is a good evidence of the necessity of programmable CD players - or mix tapes. "Tool And Die" and "Infomodities '92" are fine industrial rap, but the real reason for this disk of shiny plastic is "You Suck." Technically, it's not even Consolidated - it's credited to "The Yeastie Girls." Never before has there been a better sex-positive song... Admittedly, a small segment of recorded music, but my hat is off to you. Bravo. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Groovy's voice! The sleazy, cheesy sexual content! super
i have owned this album for about 3 years and it just recently got stolen from me. i was heart broken. never has an album come out and equalled it in dancability. propably tkks 4th best album, but i don't have REINCARNATION OF LUNA. the main stand out on this album is GROOVY'S and the BOMB GANG GIRLZ' flawless vocals. it is not industrial, but hey it is the funnest album i have ever owned ! standout tracks are MYSTERY BABYLON, INTERNATIONAL SIN SET, CONTINENTAL TOUCH,LEATHERSEX,and SEXPLOSION!

5-0 out of 5 stars sin-sational
Sexplosion. That pretty much says it. This seemed like a turning point for the TKK to me. Not as dark/evil as the previous releases, yet not as techno-glam as the later ones. But its all those things with a bit of kink and sleaze and a cherry on top. In summary, its sex-filled dancetracks even Satan could love.

4-0 out of 5 stars 70's porn music
On my first listen, this CD made me think of growing a beer belly with a lot of curly black hair growing out of it. I wanted to have several gold chains hung around my neck while doing the nasty to a few 20 year olds who look like 40 year olds. In other words, it made me want to be in a 70's porn.

On the next listen it sounded even better. This is my first MLWTTKK CD, and it was not what I expected.

If you're looking for dark/goth...maybe one of their other CDs is better for that. For what it is...I do like this CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars be my dream, baby
I enjoy this CD very much. It is a collection of DanceHall music, and lyrics which poke fun at puritanical ...... attitudes. It is captivating and entertaining to me because the lyrics are so sardonic, nearly jaded, yet more than anything else, cheeky. The music is also jocular. I especially like the campy, samples of the James Bond theme. SEX ON WHEELZ is the deserved hit, and everything seems to come together but all the songs are great. LEATHERSEX is an effective use of a diva over dance beats, and the bonus track of this song replaces the diva with a swell duet. If you are interested in one of the most controversial albums from (MY LIFE WITH) THRILL KILL KULT, or if you enjoy fun, infectious dance grooves, this CD will interest you.

5-0 out of 5 stars give yourself to the dark side
Dark and very danceable, this disc is a must-own if you like TKK. Witty, curvy, gritty, and dripping with sin, it's the perfect strip-tease or sleazy cocktail party soundtrack. TKK keep evolving; this is still their best. ... Read more

Album Description

Visionary, Forefather, Innovator...these are terms that getthrown around all to loosely in the world of electronic music, but forcertain individuals, these descriptions apply without question. JackDangers, the veteran composer and sound sculptor behind Meat Beat Manifesto,is one of these individuals. His constantly evolving musical invention hasgenerated a long string of futuristic classics, such as "Strap Down", "GodO.D.", "Helter Skelter","Psyche Out", "Radio Babylon","Edge of No Control"and "It's the Music". Past Dangers' production/remix projects include:Public Enemy, David Bowie, Orbital, DepÍche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Coil,David Byrne, Bush, Banco de Gaia, and The Shaman. Adding to this list ofheavy hitting achievements, the single, "Prime Audio Soup" from the MBMalbum Actual Sounds and Voices, was featured in the sci-fi fantasyblockbuster, The Matrix and on its platinum-selling soundtrack. Danger'sinnovative uses of samples and breakbeats have inspired countless artists(both in the dance and hip-hop worlds), putting him in a category with othervisionary artists of the late 80's/early 90's such as Coldcut, The DustBrothers, and The Bomb Squad. R.U.O.K? , MBM's seventh album and first in 4 years, represents a healthygrowth in the innovative Meat Beat sound, and includes colloborations withturntablist of the moment, Z-Trip, and ambient legend Alex Paterson of TheOrb. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Meticulously crafted sonic mayham!
The attention to detail on this album is amazing. Even the smallest sounds in the backgrounds are created with a great amount of detail and variety.

Meat Beat takes a new direction on this album by choosing to forgo lyrics, and also not using as many vocal samples. On first listen, this can leave you wanting more, but as you listen more and notice the subtle varitions in loops, and the sound design....there's plenty going on!

Oh....let's not forget the BASS! If you don't have your bass up, or just don't have bass...get some for this record. The sub-bass is heavy and thick, and, combined with Jack's breaks, really get ya movin'!

The collaborations on this album are well-done also. Alex Patterson adds his signature sense of atmosphere, while DJ Z-Trip cuts and scratches in perfect time to Jack's grooves, to wonderful effect!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not entirely new
Taken out of context with the rest of Jack Dangers' work, this album is a smooth, groovy, charismatic trip. The production is impeccable, the beats are right in the pocket, the ambience is full and gratifying. But many of the tracks seem to be constructed out of elements from his work on previous albums. You'll recognize many of the beats, breaks, and vocal samples and in many cases you can go back to "Subliminal Sandwich" or some other album and find them already used in much the same way. Therefore, many of these tracks seem more like remixes than orignal material. So if you're looking to discover what new and exciting concepts Jack has cooked up in his studio, you're not going to find it on RUOK. Still, it's a great listen. Nobody does this stuff quite like Meat Beat Minifesto.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best releases I've heard in awhile
RUOK is such a difficult album to discribe. As per usual, Jack Dangers has created yet another album of "beats in space" but with more emphasis on space. Though I won't claim to be an expert of Meat Beat Manifesto 101, I will say his music has ranged from hard hitting indrustral dance that would have Trent Reznor frothing at the mouth, to ambient land scapes competent with that of Future Sound of London. Inbetween that lengthy comparison lies RUOK. Its still got some funky grooves and it still feels like its lost in space, but it feels a little stripped back and less busy then some of the things I've heard in his catalog. What results is a tight, textural journey that's got rhythms to make your head move while tripping you out at the same time.

Largely on display is the sampled drum work from Lynn Farmer, who's looped syncopated rhythms largely take the forefront of the music. The drums (largely unvarried in each song) take hold of the song and push in the direction that Dangers wants it to go. And since drums largely point where the song is going, that leaves Jack and his collaborators ( The Orb's Dr. Alex Patterson and Scratch tour favorite, DJ Z-Trip) to build a sonic space around each song. From there the songs range from minimal explorations of drums and bass to wildly experimental ambient noise exposistions. And while traditional song structure is largely abondoned on this album (there is hardly a single melody on this entire album), I still find it strangely compelling, if not just for the funky drum breaks and odd, spacy textures. And while its not completely sucessful ( there are definitely some misses on this album), when RUOK hits on its mark, it definitely becomes one of the most entertaining, most thought provoking and most certainly groovy album that I've heard in a long, long time. Unique, original, and almost unclassifiable, Jack Dangers is certainly a pioneering voice after nearly 2 decades of making music who still continues to push the boundries of music. RUOK may be on his more comercially more accessable albums, but its certainly no less entertaining or compelling.

2-0 out of 5 stars A bit of a letdown
This album lacks the adventurous nature of his previous work. It's still good music but not nearly so engaging or interesting as before. If dancing to the music is your only interest than I guess this will do it for you though... I keep listening in hopes of hearing something that I've missed, but the tunes ARE more simple.

5-0 out of 5 stars Come on people don't be so shallow
(...) Of course this record is brillant, its by (...) JACK DANGERS. He used some really old equipment to make this album too, and he used it to it's fulliest. For any of you doubters think about the facts. First, every drum beat in a MBM song is original, he doesn't sample that stuff. Second, besides this album he worked on a bunch of others for Tino Corp, which are awesome, so give the guy a break. Third, people like DJ Shadow, MBM, Orbital, and The Orb are originators that help techno keep it's good name. Look at all the rave crap thats out there now that people consider techno, but it is surely not. Finally, every MBM album is different and each has its strengths. Sure people seem to agree the Actual Sounds and Voices is the best, and I won't disagree, but RUOK is a new page and is still great! ANYONE who took the time to read this review please do yourself a favor and buy this CD. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars outta sight
A great compilation of songs that actually most die hard Lords fans already own. However this comes highly recomended to anybody who likes hard dance music with a sense of humor and at times, heavy guitars. Most of these tracks were recorded in the "Voodoo-U" era, so you can imagine how they may sound. The Following four tracks were originally released on a bonus CD that was packaged with Praga Kahn's solo album "Pragmatic":Undress And Possess Part-2,Acid Queen, Superstar, She and MR Jones(uncensored version). The track "Dont Kill for Love" originally appeared on the "Crablouse" cd single. Some of the others appeared on foreign only releaases I think, and others are truly previously un-released.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not their best
Okay, no matter what the Lord will always ROCK! This is my least favorite of all their albums. I was quite dissapointed with the whole album. It's a keeper. But, just for my collection. I probably played this CD 2 times in the past 4 years.

Try Voodoo U or Greatest T*ts 1st... Unless you are a die hard fan like me. You still need this for the complete collection.

It's far from bad, but not as good as all their other offerings.

3-0 out of 5 stars What this is and why you should/shouldn't buy it.
This has been brought up before, I'm sure, but here goes.

A couple of years ago, there was a limited edition release available only through the LOA website. This was a collection of unreleased material, alternate versions, and B-sides. There were only 1,000 (I think) available, and they went REALLY, REALLY fast. Due to continued demand, the Lords decided to take pity on us and re-release the disc domestically a year later (I'm assuming it was authorized). This is that disc.

If you really like Praga Khan (i.e. if you can name most of his projects INCLUDING THE METAL BAND...), you probably already have this. It's really more of a completist's thing than a fully realized album. If you mainly like the first two albums (or mainly the first one), this is probably not for you...although I would like to suggest that it's worth it for "Don't Kill For Love" (previously released on the CRABLOUSE maxi single). All that twisted techno and then...A COUNTRY SONG!?!?!?!? I hurt myself laughing.

I think that's everything.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST CD OF LORDS OF ACID
THIS CD YOU HAVE TO HAVE OWN IT IS THE BEST. LISTEN TO TRACKS LIKE SUPER STAR, THE DUDE,ROBOT LOVE,AND THE #4. YOU MAY ALSO LIKE TH CD OF LORDS OF ACID TITELED: VOODO U

2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but to... different
I got a good deal on this album used, and I'm very glad I didn't buy it at full price. The tracks are all very, very different, and absolutely nothing like what Lords of Acid has hooked me on. Don't get me wrong, some of them are quite enjoyable, but if you're just getting into LoA, this isn't the album for you, several other better ones are available. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars God-like
This is, in my opinion, the best puppy album of all time (I have them all). One of the best 'Industrial' albums, also. This is the album that shaped my taste in music, and caused me to discard all my NIN, White Zombie, Etc.
Tin Omen, especially the version on this CD, is great... as well as Spasmolytic, Grave Wisdom, Double Cross, Nature's Revenge, TFWO, and Choralone (don't listen to choralone while on drugs).
Most people don't like it that well, and would probably be bigger fans of Rabies. If you've never heard of Skinny Puppy, this album probably isn't for you... it's an acquired taste.

5-0 out of 5 stars Puppy Food
This is a great little gift from SP to their fans. The CD has everything a fan could want: Great artwork, CD-ROM features (including a video of Spasmolytic), never-released material, and great live performances of classic SP songs (excluding the beginning of Tin Omen, which for some reason sounds like you're in a sewer). The older material that never saw the light of day (Jackhammer, Splasher, Double Cross) are not necessarily strong Puppy songs, but they are all great peeks into the inner workings of the band at their early stages. Since I love this kind of fodder, I was more than pleased with this release. If you're not a big Skinny Puppy fan, this is probably not for you. Instead, check out Cleanse, Fold and Manipulate, or perhaps Rabies. If you like what you hear, then please do continue to collect material from one of the more influential industrial/electro bands of our time.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is great stuff
if you have no idea what Skinny Puppy is......then for the love of Ogre!...be patient. The first few listens are probably going to be odd or somewhat painful. I usually stay away from things that have to grow on me.....but I was drawn into them somehow...probably curiosity. IF! you have some kind of an open mind with music...you will aquire the taste for Skinny Puppy....and all it's wonderful glory!.

my favorite tracks include: Grave Wisdom, Tin Omen, TFWO, and Double Cross...all the tracks are awesome, And I would go so far as to say that this collection is a proper introduction to Skinny Puppy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Creators Of Industrial
Skinny puppy Are the Creators of Modern Industrial Music. Brap is a perfect example of music that influenced everyone from NIN, Ministry, Front Line Assembly, Kmfdm and everyone inbetween. Skinny puppy were way ahead of their time. Even today I'd still say that most of their music does'nt get the respect that is deserves because people have never heard anything like it. I'm a music lover...and I can appreciate music that is "diffrent". If you want to know what influenced Trent reznor of "NIN" or Al jourgenson of "Ministry" Buy this cd. If you ask me.....I'd say that Skinny Puppy were one of the most amazing and influential bands of all time. When you listen to this double cd....you will understand what I mean. Skinny Puppy would be stars today if they were still around...Unfortunately they have passed. R.I.P SP

4-0 out of 5 stars Grrrrrr
If you prefer the happy happy pop style of funkervogt, maybe you should go with the previous reveiwers advice (or better still you could do the world of good taste a favour and slit your wrists). This CD is not for those new to skinny puppy, it is for the real fans who are not just interested in a catchy hook and a nice beat. While the music on this CD is not incredible (although the live version of last call is wonderful, especially the end) The multimedia section is very nice (and quite extensive too, about 20 video's, studio and live altogether). If you are new to skinny puppy however, it would probably be a wiser idea to get either Too Dark Park, VIVIsecVI or the newly released singles collect. In conclusion, this album is definately worth it if your computer can handle multimedia, but as a music CD alone, it is an aquired taste. ... Read more

Is there such a thing as rock anymore? It's alternative, or it's pop, or it's metal, or it's industrial, or it's techno. Or, it's Pitchshifter, who are all of the above... and then some. The influence of old-school punk like the Dead Kennedys is obvious, especially on songs like "As Seen on TV" ("When sport utility vehicles are no longer enough, you need the Terminator!"), but Pitchshifter have accomplished the difficult trick of melding several genres into a distinct sound. Perfectly at home in goth dance clubs and on the Ozzfest tour, they sprawl into head-spinning electronica experiments or straight-ahead riffage ("Stronger"'s guitar line sounds like it was written by Rob Zombie), and they're never boring. 5-0 out of 5 stars At Least In The Top Five For Album Of The Year
Pitchshifter are definitely one of my favorite bands these days. They are one of the most original bands out there, and although Deviant is not their best work (Infotainment by far) it still packs a sonic and quirky punch. Each song is really quite different, but they all fuse the same kind of styles together: Electronica, Industrial, Alternative, and Punk, while remaining fiercely independent (meaning they aren't another Staic-X/Apartment 26 copy). They've been doing their thing for quite some time now, and they seem to have matured with every album they put out. This one is not as fast paced, but it still is really good music. The guitars are stop/start kind of thing and they carry a heavy crunch. The commentary is smart and quirky, and makes a lot of sense. I also like the cover art which is a cross between the Pope and The Queen ... My favorite songs are Condescension, Hidden Agenda, As Seen On TV, and Wafer Thin. They have and amazing live show, and I'd suggest checking out Static-X, Apartment 26, Kill II This, and Ministry if you like this.

4-0 out of 5 stars forget the hybrid tag it's pure modern punk rock!!!!!!!!!!!!
after been told time and time gain what a great band they are,I thought I'd check them out for myself and sure enough I was'nt dissapointed. Firstly I would say before prasing or critising this album listen to it about 6 or 7 times, absorbe it and you'll find it's not poppy, but at the same time not too hard hitting for songs to be irrievent.

I must say if this is'nt one of their best albums, then I'm buying all the rest, straight from the first track you get this feeling johhny rotten, jimmy page and jello biafra have formed a band and jello's spoken word on "as seen on tv" and johhnys mention on "dead battery" make it all the more better.

Stand out tracks will depend on your tastes, but I'd go for the up and downy "Hidden Agenda" the brilliant "everything f*cked again" best sum up of the new millenum and the sheer cheak of "waffer thin" with it's abusive whisper all in all a great album that should appeal to a wide range of fans, buy it now!

oh and I only gave it 4 stars as I hear I have'nt even heard the half of the mavel that is pitchshifter!

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Once again Pitchshifter seems to have outdone themselves. With cuts like "Hidden agenda" and "Condescension" How can one go wrong. With Pitchshifter's hard-edged combination of punk, techno, and metal; and the brutal social commentary, this easily became one of my favorties.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly suprised by this english band
As far as accessible pop-metal goes, Pitchshifters 'deviant' is up there with the likes of Spineshank's 'Height of Callousness'and Fear Factory's 'Digimortal'.

First of all i have to say that the cover art is great. Secondly the music is great and individual. Tracks 3, 4 and 12 really impress while tracks 1, 2, 7 and 9 are all very good. Infact there isn't really a bad song on this radio friendly album.

They appeal to diversifying nu-metal fans and have a industrial dance style going on which works very well. This is also much better than there previous effort (although others tend to disagree). Thoroughly recommended, but if you like girlie singing stick with Lost Prophets and Incubus. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Total Mood
This was the first FLA album I ever got, back when it was brand new. It has continued to not only be my favorite Front Line Assembly album, it also is an album which I continue to listen to on a regular basis even well over a decade later.
If you are looking for really intense dance tracks, this album is not for you. Even though a lot of it is very beat driven, for the most part it is an eerie album that evokes a very dark mood. I absolutely love this album, and if you are into any kind of music of this genre and don't own this album you need to get a copy of it.

3-0 out of 5 stars interesting though primitive
This album is interesting because I see many of the elements that Leeb would later develop in his uncountable side-projects and in FLA; Some of these songs sound as pre-gashed senses and crossfire attempts: 'First Reprisal', 'Resistance' others are instrumental and remind me of some Delerium songs: 'Eastern Voices', 'Testimony'; even 'Resistance' anticipates in mood and chorus some songs from the 'Hard Wired' epoch.(no, its chorus is almost identical to 'Mindphaser') However, the album is rather poorly recorded, and cannot compete with the albums that Skinny Puppy were recording at the time; the electronics sound a bit muffled even if the sounds are interesting: it seems more a problem of recording, anyway. Leeb's voice sounds raw; the album is naturally divided into two parts belonging to different recording sessions; the second part, recorded in 1988, sounds a bit better, especially Leeb's voice: compare his voice in 'Resistance', for example. I cannot say this is the best FLA album, but it's maybe more miscellaneous, even if it has less variety of sounds, than other albums such as 'Hard Wired', for example.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nothing spectacular!
One can sense that this album was made on a very small budget. The instruments are primitive and the lyrics are adequate. However, as written in a previous review, FLA sounding alright is allot better then the bands whom try to copy their sound. FLA have far superior musicians and the lyrics even when forced, as on this album, are far superior to their copy cats.

5-0 out of 5 stars FLA's best album so far, hands down
Given that this was Front Line Assembly's second album (not counting the "Total Terror" demos), it feels strange to call it their best, especially considering that there have been at least seven albums since. But "State of Mind" has a raw, primitive quality to it that you can't find in industrial albums released nowadays. Bill Leeb knew how to make use of space back in the late '80s and didn't feel the need to throw all the effects in the studio at the listener. It's a dark album without being self-consciously so, and Leeb's gripping, original use of voice samples adds a touch of gritty drama you certainly won't find in the (strangely more popular) KMFDM canon. Yes, there are other great industrial albums, but this is certainly in the top five. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Angel I Could Clip Your Wings, But You'd Bleed To Death
"Sometimes in an intimate face, I cannot recognize anything more than the marks that death will leave behind."

That line has stayed with me throughout the years, attaching itself to even the most precious things I've seen while introspectively reflecting, and perhaps its comments like this that best capture the things that :wumpscut: is most renown for. No matter what is seen by those eyes and what is produced, the byproducts are always turn into dark and tortured sounds mingling with comments on many a speckled landscape of thought. They always seem capable of grabbing you and holding you as they gravitate toward whatever focal point they seek. Be it love, hate, war, or the veritable barrage or other weakness that surface in the human condition, :wumpscut: looks into them all.

Many of the things that the band is known for resurface here, and many of these tracks are well worth ingesting. I've personally always had a soft spot when it comes to "Is It You" because its so strained by the voxing and the torment resounding within that voice. It's a dark and horrible thought, to reach out and feel the hand of someone you care about and to find them lying motionless, only to watch as the devil jeers at you and drags that corpse across barbed hooks to take it away. There are also two mixes of "Womb," one better that the other, and the song itself is actually a dark piece of humor that is, in many right, well worth a listen. It's the voice of a child speaking in the womb, saying it is there and telling its mother that "I do exist and you have to care about that for the rest of your miserable days." Its done in an almost horrifically resounding voice, too, not quite voxing but making it sound young and - evil. "Angel" is also another song I've liked a lot, albeit in other remixes more than this, because it's a love song and one that works really well. It has that twist to it, of course, but what would you really expect for a mastering voice like :wumpscut:? There are also two mixes of "Embryodead," one again better than the other, and it's a pretty good song. I'm not partial to one of the remixes here at all, mind you, but one of the others is not that bad. There is also the anti-religious remix of "Golgotha," one of the hits I sometimes inflict upon the minds of people that haven't yet heard the band, "War," and tasty treat that denounces war but that left me wanting when compared to the original, a delightfully redone remix of "Thorns," and a couple of other old treats retouched.

Also on this album are two previously unreleased tracks; "Wumpsex" and "man's Complete Idiot." Man's Complete Idiot is heavy endowed with an electronic build, doesn't really have much in the way of lyrics, but is likable because it is mastered pretty well. And Wumpsex is a heavy electronic barrage that's also a good piece to listen to when you feel like taking in something without lyrics but that's new.

All that said, this isn't perhaps a disc I'd recommend to anyone that's never tried :wumpscut: out yet, and that's mostly because a lot of this is reworked material. One of the aims of R. Ratzinger has always been to retouch his material and retool it to fit the time, and that's always been a good thing. Still, for the newly-acquainted, this isn't a good starting point because it doesn't acquaint you with the electronics and the beats normal flow (its hard to flow with so many remixes) or the voxing and the utter dreariness in the band. For older fans that like remixes, this is something you may enjoy. A lot of the crafts here are constructed pretty thoroughly, and :wumpscut: takes on life are always a flavor that's good to listen to on an experimentally-rainy day.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction for new :wumpscut: listeners
Born Again contains remixes of some of :wumpscut:'s earlier material. For listeners just getting into the electronic industrial genre, this is an excellent album to buy for an introduction to :wumpscut:'s sound. There are examples of :wumpscut:'s ability to produce danceable club hits such as Angel and Thorns. Plus, there are also examples represenative of the slower, pounding industrial sound :wumpscut: is also known for (such as Embryodead and War). The whole CD sounds incredibly balanced for a remix album...each track seems strategically placed in such a manner to keep you listening straight through. Born Again is the definitive of dark electronic industrial at it's prime. If you are a fan of any type of electronic music, pick it up today and find out why :wumpscut: has become an underground favorite amongst thousands of fans.

4-0 out of 5 stars Their finest moments
Although on the cutting edge of gothic industrial, :Wumpscut: is an inconsistent act. Their creative enthusiasm sometimes hurtles in too many directions at once, leaving the basics of melody and classic sonic structure somewhere lost in the dust (Eevil Young Flesh, anyone?). But here, given the time to remix and re-consider their finest works, we can discern a true vision of their mastery. Thorns, one of the best dance instrumental tracks of the 90s, is unfortunately laced with lyrics - you may want the original as well (not on this disc) to compare the two, and decide which you prefer. Either way, this song is immortal. Other highlights include Is It You? and Angel. Although sometimes grating, :Wumpscut: is never boring. In a word, excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a really good piece of music
this is by far one of the best I've heard and I am a huge fan,it deserves a 5 star rating all the way!the talent that rudy shows in this one is divine!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tecno-industrial mix

Expecially import industrial, and all the friends want to borrow the CD. They all love it. Found more fans for :wumpscut:. 5-0 out of 5 stars back when pitchshifter still was underground...
in my opinion this is pitchshifters second best release after infotainment. it is not quite as dark and downtuned as industrial, still it seems strongly inspired by godflesh, but has it's one unique sound. the guitar riffs are heavy and cutting, ministry-like. there is an strong use of samples on some songs, which again reminds me of ministry. but even if there are many similarities to other bands, pitchshifter has it's very own sound. it is more furious than godflesh, more industrial than ministry, more accesable than skinny puppy and heavier than kmfdm. but on the negative side it is also less heavy than ministry, much lighter than godflesh, less experimental than skinny puppy and so on. altogether this is a great album, i really like it. it is heavy, grinding industrial, without losing itself in noises & distortions, which is a common problem among industrial bands. get this if you like any of the aforementioned bands. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great tribute to a great band
I love this tribute to The Cure. The bands paying tribute are all really good industrial/gothic bands. Leaether Strip's version of Lullaby is incredible. There are actually a number of songs from this CD I really enjoyed. 100 Years by Nosferatu, Jumping Someone Else's Train by Kill Switch ... Klick, Sinking by The Shroud (Really good), Let's Go to Bed by Crocodile Shop, Shake Dog Shake by Ex-Voto (exceptional), Pornography by Wreckage, A Night Like This by Test Infection (great), A Forest by Death Lies Bleeding, and Primary by Bell, Book and Candle. That is ten songs on a 13 song CD that I really liked. I can't say much more about how good this disc is than that. This is an industrial classic, and a wonderful and complex tribute to The Cure.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some great covers...
But also a few pointless ones. I hate the song 'Killing an Arab' in the first place but the other covers make it well worth the price. I personally think 'Disintegration' by Razed In Black is the best cover on here, 'Lullaby' by Leather Strip is also good and so is Nosferatu's cover. I think the song selection on here isn't the best, either, but considering that these covers are done mainly by Goth/ Darkwave bands...this album is really cool, and The Cure is a very influential band so they completely deserve this. I recommend this album to fans of The Cure who like other Goth bands...if you are a fan of The Cure (ungothy) pop songs you will Not like this, but any good Goth would like this =]

4-0 out of 5 stars An interesting mix...
The " Lullabye " cover by Leatherstrip is the best { not better than the original has another reviewer suggested }; perfection would have been achieved by inserting Robert Smith's voive instead of the Leatherstip vocalist, who doesn't have much range.

Nosferatu's cover of " 100 years " is also exceptional, the second best cover here, but with the best vocals going to Nosferatu frontman Dominic LeVay! Personally, I too think people expected a bit too much mch from a Cleopatra tribute album!

Elecrtic Hellfire make their obvius contractual obligation to appear on EVRY SINGLE tribute/complilation album Cleopatra has EVER made with " Killing an Arab " which is well done musically, but the vocals are just too cartoonish and " I wanna be evil "; lacking the elegance to cover a Cure song. I at first despised Razed in Black's cover of Disintergration { and I'm an electronic muscian! } but it's grown on me a little { still not big on the vocals }; it IS an original approcah to the song. { doesn't make me forget the original }. I also like Death Lies Bleeding's industrial/metal approcah to " A Forest " with the creey whispering vocals; it's a uniuqe appoarch to a song too often covered in the goth/industrial underground.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but doesn't make me want to reach for it
Personally, I'm not much of a fan of a lot of more recent "industrial/goth" music, but a lot of the covers on this album really aren't bad given the style -- I think a couple will even shine through for even a die-hard Cure fan. But there are a few tracks that REALLY grating and ruin listening to the album straight through (the Disintegraton cover -- wow -- no thanks). On the other hand I think it has 4-5 tracks that would interest anyone who would seek out this album on Amazon, so I'd think of this album as an EP and get it if it's cheap. I doubt that there is anyone out there that consisently likes all of the styles on this album, unless making such statements is tied up with their personal image. The album is eclectic, but not outstanding.

3-0 out of 5 stars Leather Strip stands out...
Most of the tracks on this CD lack any innovation or heart. The Cure has such an impressive list of songs to pick from as well, but the songs chosen for this album don't make a dedicated Cure fan stand up and take notice(no one covered "To The Sky" - quite possibly the most beautiful Cure song ever recorded). However, Leather Strip's version of "Lullaby" is a sweet reminder of what 80's industrial was all about. If you like The Cure, and you loved Poesie Noire, go out and get this song somehow. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Die Construction Revamped Assembly Wins
As a Fan of DarkWave music, I found this gem for $ at the KUZ in Germany sitting with Remix 1,3&4 and bought them all. Each track does both justice to the original band and the general listner by showing how it could sound if reshaped by a turntablist (DJ), as a DJ I always enjoy finding a new spin on any song to be able to re-introduce a great song to those who might have missed the original.Purists might disagree but an updated version made me dig deeper into the used bins to track down the original hit to compare.
Highly recommend!

4-0 out of 5 stars Strange... but still ok
I, like so many others, feel it necessary to own everything FLA has ever put out. So, on that note, I had picked this up as soon as I notice the Front Line Assembly on the front. But, it's a bit of a mixed bag. First off, the FLA remixes of the Die Krupps songs are really cool. They take the already meaty songs of Die Krupps and put a bit of an FLA spin on them; making them even more appealling. I'm always interested to see what Bill will do with guitar sampling, and he really turns a few knobs to 11! Then you listen to the Die Krupps remixes of FLA songs from Hard Wired. They are not bad, but in essence, not really FLA either. I think that they have added some guitar to Neologic Spasm and re-recorded the vocals. It doesn't sound anything like the original, which is kind of the point of a remix, right? But basically on these three songs, Die Krupps have stripped away all of the wonderful layers of sound leaving only drum, bass, guitar, vocals and a few electronics. I still like it in its own right, but it's not at all representative of FLA. I would say that it's sacrilege to FLA, but obviously for this to be released, Bill would have had to sign off on it, and if it's good enough for Bill, it's good enough for me.

2-0 out of 5 stars NO! You can't do this to FLA songs and get away with it!
GAH! Bought this one when it came out in 1996, as I buy every album with FLA on. Well, this is the worst of all my FLA album. Why, Die Krupps has made a mess of all of the FLA songs. Literally killed all that is FLA andwarped it into something gruesome and horrible. I have never been able tolisten through these songs. Yes they are that bad!The FLA mixes of DieKrupps are quite ok, therefore the 2 stars. Most stuff FLA mixes becomesgreat, but this time they must have been in a hurry. Oh Well. Spend yourmoney on another CD. Why not Implode, if you do not have it :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of this collection
It's tragic... this cd is not avaliable anymore. It is the best Volume of the project Remix Wars, the first is much low, the third is good but not like this ... all toutched by FLA turn gold ... ... Read more
