3-0 out of 5 stars A few bad apples, but a keeper nonetheless
I actually purchased this disc a few months ago, but exchanged it for Larry Tee's "Electroclash Mix" after much consideration. When I did get up the courage to give this album another try, I was quite surprised. This mix isn't half bad. Of course, I am far from being the authority on electro/synthpop. I was probably no more than two years old when most of the 80s tunes on this disc were released. However, from the perspective of someone relatively new to the scene, this disc provided a bit of history on the oldies as well as a good intro to the budding electro sound.

I'm going to have to disagree with the other reviewers' bashing of the Tears For Fears cameo. I think the song is great at establishing the mood. What better way to capture the attention of newbies and fans alike than by serving up a universal hit for all to hear? ...and hey, the disc IS called "80s-vs-Electro", is it not? A few flashbacks wouldn't be grossly inappropriate given the title of the album. However, my main gripe is with Grandmaster Flash's "White Lines." What on earth Grandmaster Flash is doing on an electro/synthpop mix is beyond me. The rest of the selections are great. I'm especially stuck on "Stars And Heroes," "Into The Feeling," "Genedefekt" & "Fashion Rules." I could have done without "Trans-Europe Express," but a little Kraftwerk is essential.

All in all a decent mix. Great disc to pop in before hitting the clubs or going out for drinks. I would sooner recommend DJ Keoki's "Kill The DJ" or Larry Tee's "Electroclash Mix," but this is still a worthwhile purchase. Use a gift or discount card on this one, if you can.

5-0 out of 5 stars good beats!
although i cannot offer the deep insight of the other reviewers, i do recognize that this CD has good beats. the mix isn't very smooth though, but this is a minor inconvenience in the wealth of bumpin' grooves on this compilation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Uh huh, that's Right...
Another Ultra comp. Same rules as always apply, kids: Skip the first several tracks (cause that tends to be where the 'names' get piled, regardless of their flow) and then let the party start.
File under WTF. For the most part, this comp is consistantly amazing and engaging. And at the same time there are a few moments that just make you scratch your head and wonder if you're the only one who just doesn't get why that particular track is here.
Grandmaster Flash? Love the man, love the song, but who invited him to this type of party? Tears for frickin' Fears?! Not a horrid song, and it does have synth in it, but who let it off the Greatest Radio Hits of the 80's collection? I mean, I have nothing against "Shout", but it sticks out like a sore thumb here.
Having said that, the album is 95% perfect for what it is and those few questionable picks aside, is highly recommendable. It's a fun little comp and it'd be a great introduction for those who find themselves intimidated by 'electronic music' as it's pretty mellow and quite easily accessable. Top tracks: Audio Bullys, Luke Slater, Bis, Royksopp, Fisherspooner (Dave Clarke's remix is awesome), and Gary Numan

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but doesn't quite make it
Must agree with all the previous reviews, but would like to add that just about all the tracks on 80's vs Electro are CHOONS. Although there are some odd inclusions, mixer David Waxman seems to have opted for melody and variety; consequently it's a really entertaining listen and wholly unlike most compilations that seem to reach for consistency in mood and BPM. Expect high energy pop with a sprinkling of oldies and you won't be disappointed. A great concept that still has room for improvement.

5-0 out of 5 stars exceptional cd! will breath new life into club scene
This cd is not perfect and i regret saying that it is the actual 80's songs that drag this compilation down a level, but much of this album is new and emulates the 80's sound with deep dancable bass that seems to be the next step in club music evolution. Most of these songs were recorded in 2002, which gives us refreshing hope that electronic music has broken out of it's five year funk of redundancy, and now there is a clever sound, although borrowed in parts from the 80's, that can spearhead a new club scene. 16 of the 24 songs are thrilling and tickle your taste for more more more. the rest are flashbacks to the respectable 80's but stick out like sore thumbs and slow down the excitemant. do what you have to do to get this cd.....don't miss out on the future through the past. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars wicked bunch of songs!
I just bought this cd and....oh man.....it ROCKS. Yah, it's a tiny bit older sounding (a little less techno, in other words) than the new Asian Underground stuff, but that just makes it all the more sweet.

The cd as a whole is half soothing, half grooving...and trust me, that makes for an insanely good time. A few of my fav. songs: Bullet Train (which has amazing bass backing up the melody) and A Toungue of Flame (which literally sounds like new age reggea with a gorgeous-voiced singer thrown in for that extra exotic sound). But the best part of the cd? Boss Tabla!! I can't even describe how terrific that one song alone is, much less the entire album. It starts out w/intricate tabla drums and steadily adds more and more until the bass beat just takes over. After that, there's pretty much nothing you can but surrender to the awesomeness and smile.

In a nutshell: This cd is worth every penny you paid for it, and that includes shipping and handling!

5-0 out of 5 stars After so many years, yet great
It's strange to make a rewiew on a CD of 6/7 years ago!
This happens only if we are speaking about a great cd.
Psychic Karaoke it's one of this!
Before that the orient entered in the club this group was at least some years ahead!
Now days we are speaking about Bhudda louge, Chlaude Challe...Ayurveda Lounge...Tantra Louge..Punjab etc....
but this people already tried to mix West and Orient in a superb sound.
Here the magnificient voice of Natacha Atlas is the carpet between sitar and electrical guitar, between bongo and rock bass.
When the West meet the East...Etnich rock electronic underground still modern!
Best song are : Chariots- Bullet Train - Good Luck Mr.Gorsky - Eyeway Souljha- but in a five stars album all the track are more than ok!
I hope that new fans can meet this group!

4-0 out of 5 stars Quality
TGU sometimes get classified as Asian Underground, but they're really much more Arabic flavored. The groove here is more of a reggae thing than the club rhythms favored by the Asian Underground. If this sounds appealing, you'll like this album, because TGU pull it off very well. All the stuff with Egyptian singer Natacha Atlas is first rate. A few of the other tracks are a little weak, particularly the "raps", but the highlights merit 4 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars NOT GLOBAL UNDERGROUND!
TRANSGLOBAL UNDERGROUND NOT TO MIX UO W/ THE TRANCE-DJ-COMPILATION GLOBAL UNDERGROUND (SASHA & JOHN DIGWEED). I REALLY LIKE THIS ALBUM OF THEIRS 'COZ I LIKE ETHNICAL-INFLUENCED ELECTRONIC MUSIC. THIS ONE HAS A LOT OF EASTERN-ORIENTAL ELEMENTS, ESPECIALLY THE SONGS WITH NATASHA ATLAS SINGING. IF YOU LIKE ALBUMS LIKE THIS ONE, YOU SHOULD ALSO CHECK OUT LOOP GURU, BADMARSH AND SHRI AND TALVIN SINGH. ... Read more

Amazon.com essential recording

Rave dance parties had been a phenomenon in London and its rural satellites for years before this song came along, but "Born Slippy" took a growing fad and turned it into a genuine movement. Its inclusion on the Trainspotting soundtrack only broadened its influence, casting an even wider net and bringing peripheral followers of electronic music into the fold. The song makes use of an ingenious vocal, fuzzy and loose, looping phrases of cadence around irresistible BPMs that could inspire the most bashful wallflower to raid the dance floor. The song's influence is such that some have claimed it to be the unassailable pinnacle of electronica. While such statements are debatable, it's instructional to realize that the genre concept "electronica" only congealed when "Born Slippy" astronomically expanded the all-around influence of electronic music. In effect, it's already a classic. --Matthew Cooke ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Short and sweet
While I don't own this, I've heard all of what's on here. And based on the single alone, the Born Slippy single is worth every penny. Basically this little CD contains Underworld's well known classic. Actually this little beauty was my first exposure into Underworld and what got me hooked. In truth, Born Slippy is a pretty simple song. A simple synth riff play wrapped around Karl Hyde's staccato delivery with his patanted stream of conciousness lyrics. Added later into the song is bass heavy beat that in of itself holds most of the song till its climax and ending. Born Slippy as whole shows Underworld's skill as producers and song writers, knowing how to hook a listener with something so simple but something so incredible. Essential for any techno and Underworld fan.

If you were to ask me my favourite movie, or book, or even album of all time, I would not know where to begin. I mean, there are so many great movies, albums....how can you select one ahead of the all others?

However when it comes my favourite song of all time...well at least I can answer you that one. There is a clear cut winner and hopefully you're listening to it right now! (Click on the link if you're not). Thats right, in my opinion Born Slippy is better than Stairway to Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody, Smells Like Teen Spirit, and George Michael's Careless Whisper...

It's special

5-0 out of 5 stars Does anyone look at the track listings?
Although all of the reviews here seem to reflect the seven-track Born Slippy.NUXX CD single, this item listing is actually for the original three-track CD single from 1995, with the riding lawnmower on the cover.

The world-famous Born Slippy.NUXX featured in Trainspotting is actually a remix, with the original version being track 1 on this CD, and the TELEMATIC remix being track 3.

The seven-track CD single features remixes based off the NUXX remix, and not off the original song.

All in all a great disc and worth searching out.

5-0 out of 5 stars prepare yourself
Being a raver I was naturally drawn to "Born Slippy". It is quite simply a rave ANTHEM. It is THE if not one of the most recognized electronic songs. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why it's an instant favorite maybe it's just the speed and energy of it all. It's a rush, a very confident and honest rush.

So what exactly is he saying?? Is it just a stream of consciousness?? To me it sounds like Karl Hyde is singing of a boy that dresses in drag who he happens to like. Whatever it is about it is my anthem of choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars walk or run with this!
so i just purchased my second born slippy single,i lost the first one at the gym and had to drive 20 miles to get the other, dammit....it is so great!!! if you enjoy really great trance music that keeps going, and going and coming down and going, especially while you work out this is it!! the original born slippy is exciting too yes..but 2. nuxx (deep pan), is so wonderful, and 100% different, as is the dark + long (dark train) version...if you run or walk a treadmill get it, burn it whatever;) and tell me is it not great to get pumped on!! ... when you would by an album and listen to it over and over and over? This is the first time since i was a teenager that that's exactly what I did... and continue to do. Da Knuckles man is pure genius. Period.

5-0 out of 5 stars Godfathers taste
There is not much to say regarding this collection: If you know Frankie, the godfather of house, you definitely know you can trust him and his dj-experience since the 70's about what's HOT and what's NOT. - Worth purchasing if you are into deep (house),classics and disco.

4-0 out of 5 stars Frankie Knuckles - Collection of Classics
CD is good, and has a few memorable old school house jams-Back in the day Paradise Garage style songs. Was expecting just a tad bit more from the CD, but it is still worth purchasing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Party Till You Drop
What more can be said about Frankie Knuckles. Growing up in Chicago during the (radio station) WBMX era, Frankie's was a household name. This cd set further demonstrates how that was possible. Not only was the sequencing of the songs brilliant but the mixing was right on -- especially on Disc One (where he has the unenviable task of beat matching disco records: that usually involves live instruments). Old School Househeads will really enjoy this double set!

5-0 out of 5 stars Collection of Classics by Frankie Knuckles
Being a DJ myself and from the old school Chicago deep house/underground scene, I really enjoyed the 1st CDs compilation of classical underground music. I haven't heard anyone play this type of house since the mid 80s to early 90s. The 2nd CD is nice as well but I prefer the 1st. Its outstanding to see a Chicago DJ from that era capture the essence of that era and share it with world. I'd like to see Lil Louis, Terry Hunter, Ron Trent, Boo Williams, and Ron Carroll produce a mix of the classics similiar to this one to reflect their respective styles. I understand the music has evolved and I like the new underground/garage house the DJs are playing, but I would like to hear a vault of all the old school Chicago deep/underground house music. ... Crystal Waters's run of hit singles captures an eclectic but essentially pop side of the house-music experience. Whether hymning a "Gypsy Woman" in the infernally catchy debut hit ("La da dee, la da da") that allowed this diva to quit her secretarial job, investigating life "In de Ghetto," or simply celebrating "100% Pure Love," her laidback persona marks each song: these aren't just her producers' triumphs. This best-of mixes radio-length versions with dance-floor epics (both, in the case of "Gypsy Woman") and also features her "Boy from Ipanema" from the Red Hot + Rio compilation. --Rickey Wright ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't quite get 5 stars
House diva Crystal Waters gives us basically a trip down memory lane with this greatest hits compilation. You get 3 versions of "Gypsy Woman"(the original version, the 'Strip to the Bone Mix', and a special 1998 remix; why it wasn't put as a separate track, I don't know.). You also get "100% Pure Love", "Just A Freak"(all three were her biggest hits), "Relax", "Say...If You Feel Alright" (not as big, but still memorable), some of her not-so-great releases, and even some unreleased tracks ("Spin Me", "The Boy From Ipanema"). Now after all of that, there still feels like something is missing. First of all, her radio mix of "100% Pure Love" was much better, second of all, the remix of "Makin' Happy" is just too long. Third of all, one of her releases ("What I Need") isn't even on the CD, and that was a tight song. Those are the only things that keep me from giving the Cd 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just try NOT to dance when you listen to this album
Crystal Waters has a great voice and great producers to have made such a wonderful body of work that is all highlighted on this Greatest Hits album.

The album gets you dancing and singing for over an hour, all the while, broadening all musical horizons. She creates great songs for the dancing fool and making the sad happy again. These songs lift up the weary soul. Just try and NOT dance and sing when you listen to this album. It's lots of fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits from Miss Waters
This solid collection from Baltimore's own Crystal Waters compiles her hits duirng the 1990's. Never mind that she lacked a great voice: what mattered were the slammin' house BEATS, provided by Maryland-based DJs the Basement Boys. It's tempting to dismiss Miss Waters as a one-hit-wonder, but the truth of the matter is, she released a string of radio/club hits like "Makin' Happy," "Gypsy Woman," "100% Pure Love," and so forth. Crystal Waters was one of the few club/dance divas that mattered, and this CD will make a nice addition to your collection.

2-0 out of 5 stars disjointed compilation by house diva
A typical Crystal Waters anthem has a good beat, catchy lyrics and a repetitive chorus. Although not gifted with a good voice, she became one of the previous decade's favourite club diva's, releasing songs which did well on the pop and even better on the dance charts.

Unfortunately the producers of this 'best of' set have made the big mistake to focus on the album versions of Crystal's major hits. In the dance business it's usually the remix which makes the hit - and by chosing the original versions this set is considerably weaker than it would have been otherwise. Luckily, 'Say... If You Feel Alright' is featured in a decent version, as are the much more compact versions of some other songs from her third album. The song selection from her first two albums is, however, a mess. 'Relax', for instance, had a great single remix, but the album version is uneventful. 'Makin' Happy' is hardly one of her best moments, but at least the radio remix was enjoyable, whilst this 6:20 minute long version carries on much too long. 'Gypsy Woman (la da dee)' is an unforgettable dance anthem, and although it is featured in three (! ) mixes on some versions of this album, the 'strip to the bone radio mix' is nowhere to be found. Likewise, the version of '100 % Pure Love' is okay, but the radio remix was better.

'Surprise' (terrible vocals) and 'Twisted' are horrible songs from a horrible album ('Surprise') and should not have been included. The '98 remix of 'Gypsy Woman' is also not a very good attempt to update this classic.

It would have been much better to release a singles collection, including the single edits of her smashes + some album tracks from her third album.

Too many songs, too little strong versions and not a lot of fun.

And now everyone knows how DE-licious Junior can be in the early hours of the morning! Just don't forget to thank the Him when you leave.

3-0 out of 5 stars Early Junior is worth hearing
Having become a Junior Vasquez addict (following him from the Tunnel to Arena to Twilo), I found that I could not rest without having everything by him in print. I was surprised to discover this little gem, full of songs the DJ wrote himself. It is generally agreed that Live Vol. 2 is his best work, and nothing in this collection is likely to change that assessment for anyone. But there are a number of tunes here that make the cd worth the list price -- among them "Just Like a Queen" and "Cum on U Can Git It." A few of these tunes also lean toward ambient, so those looking for the fully blown tracks of his legendary nightclub sets will get only about half of what they want. The vocals are also kept to a bare minimum here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Junior is a living legend

5-0 out of 5 stars The Year's best Dance Mix/Compilation
I am a big MAW fan so it was with baited breath that I waited for this cd. I had heard about it during the summer and was constantly checking the locals for any signs. First let me say MAW can add another superlative to their resume. This is an outstanding project because Louie and Kenny obvisously respect the music of the West End catalogue. This is not some tripped up fad gadget! It is up to the minute clubland music and would fit in superbly in any underground/deep house set. However, they have kept true to the original production and have added very subtle update touches to these classics. It's a winner from start to finish -- just put it on and let the music take you - whether you are an old garage head (like me) or a new jack weened on house you will find your place in this collection. Kudos guys!

5-0 out of 5 stars go buy the vinyl
I was the mastering engineer alongside Herb Powers Jr. a well respected mastering engineer in the music business. If people have a problem with the mix cd they should go buy the vinyl and do their own mix.. It is available and sounds great. After all the original recordings were released on vinyl only, and I should know, I did the vinyl for the remastered versions.

4-0 out of 5 stars not THAT good
Not to hate on MAW's well deserved success, but the West End crew could've got some other, more authentic old-school dj to finesse this one up. The remixes, edits, and that awful intro I can do without. It's decent album for those who're trying to capture a hint of what those days were about. But, I suggest getting it on vinyl format, giving it to a good hip-hop dj, and watch the sparks fly!

5-0 out of 5 stars West End - the BEST END
The West End slogan of "Where the Sun Sets ... and the Stars Rise" has never been more true than with this mastermix set. MAW are the perfect choice to the anniversary mix. These guys are the REAL dynamic duo. They have once again remixed selected songs and maintained the songs' integrity and original feel. Favorite tracks include "Can't You Feel It", "Let's Go Dancin'", "Is It All Over My Face" and "All Night (I Can Do It Right)." Furthermore, the mastermix itself is excellent. Songs I really liked: *Hi-Gate-Pitchin' and *Derb- Derb both because of the progression, *Sono-Keep Control because it's an all-around good song with good vocals, *Massiv-Who Am I because of the good "old school rave" feel it gives me when I listen, *Laut Sprecher-Omnibus even though it reminds me a little too much of Darude's Sandstorm, I love how it drops everything in the middle of the song then slowly progresses back up to the original beat.Gives me MAJOR goosies!Everything else on this cd was good, classic stuff, too.

The only song that I can't stand hearing is Phat Bass. There's not even any bass in the song! You think it's going to build up to this awesome bassline, but all you get is some cheesy synth notes. It's the cheesiest song I've ever heard because of that.

5-0 out of 5 stars I liked it very much.
I found out about house music and I really liked it. I told one of my friends, and he got me Vol 1. I liked it, so I got this one and Vol 3. I like this one the best. The only two songs I don't like on here were Void and The Launch- I have a better version of The Launch and Void too long (so are Rapture and The Revolution, but I like those songs). My favorite is Blood is Pumpin', and I guess if I had to pick another it would be Who am I. I've read most of the reviews for the Best of House CD's, and I don't really understand why they're all bad...

2-0 out of 5 stars get a 10-foot pole ready...
Unmixed, unfiltered, unrefined. This CD is good for all those of you that would get into this music if only it was on MTV. So, for all you popularity-seeking folk out there...buy up! Better yet, leech money off your parents and have THEM buy it! The rest of us (the people that actually listen to trance because we LIKE it) are busy saving up for Exposure 4, or Airdrawndagger.

1-0 out of 5 stars Should be melted into something useful
Right, let's discuss false advertising. There's just two progressive cuts here, the original (lesser) version of Tom Stephan's "The Revolution," and Iio's smash "Rapture," which admittedly still brings goose bumps a year later, thanks to the sexy, throbbing remix courtesy of Creamer & Stephane K that best suits Ali's husky voice.

The rest are unmixed radio edits of hi-energy/drum roll/breakdown/pompous synth trance, all variations of the Darude "Sandstorm" theme, including his own on "Feel the Beat." Worst offenders "Phatt Base" (which has none) and "Who Am I" (answer: a nobody) and "Palladio" (referencing the strings melody from that diamond jeweler commercial) are an embarrassment to music.

This disc can only contribute to dance by being melted down for disco ball parts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous
In addition to listening to music for pleasure, I dance for exercise, and this CD is definitely worth the price. Some of the songs are familiar (I was very disconcerted to hear the De Beers Diamond theme!), and some of them have annoyingly long pauses in the middle or vocal interludes, but the overall album is terrific to dance to, and fun to listen to.I'm very glad to have bought it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars HIGH QUALITY WORLD MUSIC AT A GIVE AWAY PRICE!!!
I was shocked by the price of this CD and thought that this would be a bunch of recycled garbage or songs that were thrown together by some mixer just to make a CD.Contrary to my opinion, it wasn't!Palm Beats Volume 1 is an incredible compilation of world, dub, breakbeat and house music that is sure to satisfy all fans of those genre! This one will definitely be a hit for the summer and all those pool parties--and you really can't beat the price.Songs of note are from Polaris, Sidestepper and Baaba Mal!Highly recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars cool groove international beats
A compilation of nicely remixed groove tracks from around the globe. From Jamaica's rhythm kings Sly & Robbie, to Algeria's Gigi, to Sidestepper (my personal favorite) from Columbia.Much more than "a sample of ethnicity" with break beats,
all tunes have an organic flow--difficult to achieve for basically computer generated electronica. All tracks feature mature musicianship and polish without being slick.
All in all, a good sample of hip World Beats. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good exercise music!!
I bought this cd on a whim, as I mostly dig Buddha Bar in all its compilations..however, the music is very exciting, danceable and I like the different songs. I have since purchased all of the Barfly cds and have not been disappointed, save the first one. that one didn't groove me like the others, but its okay, depending on my mood. I like it, I like it and look forward to other recordings. Actually anything by George V Records has my vote and I have never been disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not your typical house mix
I recently became a big fan of various recordings that was released on George V Records, namely the Buddha Bar series. A couple of weeks ago, I came across the fourth compilation in the Barfly series (as well as "Barlotti") in the used cd bins. I knew "Barfly IV" wasn't going to be another "Buddha Bar" but I didn't know how different it was going to be. I bought it on a whim. After listening to it, I was originally not to keen on it since I am not really a fan of house music anymore. Part of the cd I felt the music started to become a bit on the repetitive side. I decided to give this cd another listen and found myself grooving along to the music. The music on "Barfly IV" is definitely not your typical house music mix. The song selection certainly isn't predictable as opposed to most mix cds released on any American record label (i.e Ultra Records). Although I am not really big on soul and funk music, the songs chosen for this compilation wasn't too bad. I really enjoyed the first three songs on the cd. They really kicked off the mood of the cd which is to get the listener to dance. Listening to "Barfly IV" makes me feel like I am at the actual Parisian nightclub. It just has a really cool, chic vibe to the cd. Although "Barfly IV" can't compete with my beloved "Buddha Bar" series, I must admit that I'm glad that I gave the cd another chance. I wish dance mix cds were more like "Barfly" and less like "Ultra Dance". ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good CD, Can Be Better
I'm a Daft Punk fan, like other people. When I first bought the CD, I thought it would be remixes from both "Homework" and "Discovery". Boy, was I wrong! It repeats themselves after Track 2. Most of the songs (such as Aerodynamic, Digital Love, and Harder, Faster, Better, Stronger) are from "Discovery", while only one song, (Phoenix) is from "Homework". And the Enhanced CD sucks! It just has the cover on "Discovery" on there, and it takes you on the website for their mailing list for Action Figures from the anime movie, Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. Daft Punk, love your music, but next time you want to do a remix album, please include "Homework" Tracks!

4-0 out of 5 stars Something for Everyone
Simply, nothing I can complain about. Some great sounds were released in this album, and of course, a must have for Daft Punk fans alike.
Starting off with the Ouverture is a great idea, and is totally the Daft sound we have all come to know and love in their first release of Homework so many years ago now, and as we all still know their ever adapting sounds are also quite aparent in this release. Mostly remixes of thier 2001 released album "Discovery" this VeryDisco CD, covers every sound you want to hear from Funk to House back to Funk. Lyrics carry us through the whole way. The Punk's own re-creations in AeroDynamite, and Crescendolls are a great sample of their early work.
Some songs on this album should not have been toyed with, like Phoenix I will admit, (my personal fav from Homework) but aside from that, sit back and enjoy the sounds that other artists have loved enough to remix, and I loved enough to keep me comming back for more.

4-0 out of 5 stars a daft punk mixed with techo and other non techo music.
hey everyone,
i'm Joe. i been a daft punk fan since the cd discoverly came out. i first saw them on toonami midnight run and love one more time. when i saw this cd at wal mart in logan west virginia while visting my grandparents.i brought it. i like the techo songs without words like track 12 track 12 sounds like a fighting scene. i really like netures and daft punk. and face2face is a fast song. and phoniex sounds weird in the beging it sounds like a group singing and then aliens laughing and then scared of something. some of the tracks are great i only have three i hate. the rap song it sucks i brought this because i though it wouldn't have any swearing since it's techo and i hate rap. they use one of daft punk's songs and make it a rap song. i guess it's ok if you lke rap. and 11 suck too it was a love song play on the piano. it's not even techo. and one more time unplugg sucks. i like the dancing song better. the reason i brought this to hear one more time. but all it is is a guy sining about making love. most of the words is about making love. and everyone knows making love is sex. so kids don't need to hear this. the rest of the cd is great daft punk sound stay with techo. and not mixed the music.i can't wait for daft punk's new song. and hope it's better then this. don't buy this if you just like techo. just download it. this is why i gave it a 4 out of 5. thank you for your time.

2-0 out of 5 stars For every good track, theres 3 bad ones
The reason this CD made me so mad, is that i was expecting so much from it.

Homework is one of my favorite albums of all time, and Discovery blew my mind when i first heard it.

Both get listened to all the time.

Areodynamite is decent. Neptunes remix is CRAP. Basement Jaxx remix (and this made me REALLY upset, as the B-Jaxx are ANOTHER one of my favs) is CRAP. The remix of Digital Love is basically Digital Love with a couple added drums and extended parts. Same song. Slum Village remix was okay. Unplugged remix of One More Time is a joke. It has to be.

I dont remember any other song as being even noteworthy.

It breaks my heart, but this CD is definately not worth owning.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment is Bitter
About a year ago my best friend went through a personality crisis. He decided he wanted to become a DJ, get into the club scene and become a candy kid. His persona became shaped little by little. He started off with very accessable dance music and DJ's like Prodigy and Daft Punk before getting into DJ Baby Anne and Keoki. In this time I was a depressed kid who listened to alot of emo. Thanks to him, Daft Punk became my savoir. To this day, I listen to Discovery at least three times a week. It signifies an album of perfection. So of course, I was eager to buy Daft Club. I rushed to my local Mom & Pop record store when it was released and bought it with the excitement of hearing house mixes and see what Pharell did "Better, Faster, Stronger."I am sad. This to me, is much like my experience in preschool when I was knocked out when my first crush threw a brick at my head. How can something so dear be wrecked? I guess that really, you can't change perfection. There weren't supposed to be house mixes of these songs. Sure, many tracks have their moments, but all in all, I'd leave it to Daft themselves to mix their own songs for clubs. May sound self-centered and like I'm alienating anyone from putting their spin on this by saying that, but yes, if 'Discovery' didn't mean that much to you, you'll probably enjoy to hear what's been done to 'aerodynamic' or 'something about us,' and I think every Daft fan should hear it just to see what their opinion on it is, they may love it. Who knows. Maybe I'm close-minded. What am I saying? Of course I am. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars not what I expected, but better than most compilations
I am a huge Deep Dish fan - and I have been waiting for months for Yoshiesque 2 to be released (It has been delayed for several months). To surpass the excellence of both 1999's Yoshiesque and 2000's Renaissance:Ibiza (two of my all time favorite compilations ever) would be a difficult task, but the Deep Dish boys give it an honest effort.

Disc One - West Coast is more of a deep house affair, with smooth sensuous grooves and sexy vocal scattered about. Standout tracks include: Bernard Leon Howard III's "Marscarter," Behrouz's "What We Do In Life" and Oil UK's "The Future"

Disc Two - East Coast has much more of a dark, tribal, progressive feel - check out Deep Dish's own amazing remixes of Dusted's "Always Remember To Respect and Honour Your Mother" and Delerium's "Innocente"... Dark and gorgeous.

While fans of their earlier work might find Yoshiesque 2 a touch disappointing, I can testify that after repeated listenings their subtle and deft mixing skills grow on you.

This is right up there with Danny Howell's "Nocturnal Frequencies 3", Dave Seaman's "Renaissance:Desire" and Hooj's "Nu-Progressive Era" as my fave compilations of 2001 (so far)

FYI - Deep Dish will be mixing the next installment of the fabulous Global Underground series - No. 21, Moscow... coming this fall!

5-0 out of 5 stars deep intelligent sound - what one should expect from DD
Yoshiesque 2 is the best mix album of 2001. I was a little disappointed with GU 21-Moscow because it doesn't portray the real talent of the DC duo. Yoshiesque is not as progressive nor anthem-based, and sounds much more Deep Dish-like. I agree with most reviewers that disc 2 is superior. But I also like the first CD - it is more relaxed, chill-out, melodic, kind of deep house, not bad, just a differen mood. Great for listening in the car on my way back from a night of dancing in a club. My favorite track on this disc is Lovely-Johnny Fiasco's Lovely Vocal Remix.
Disc 2 (Eastcoast) is more of an energetic club mix but it also sounds pretty deep, and you can't mistake it for anything else - it's Deep Dish! The 'Eastcoast' CD starts with the excellent track - Finally - a big hit in clubland last summer (2001). Track 4 is an awesome remix of Disted - Always Remember to Respect + Honor Your Mother, and is a tribue to Danny Tenaglia by Deep Dish. Another one of my favorite tracks is Afrika by Oliver Lieb which slows down the tempo a little, then the set goes deeper with John Creamer's and Stephane K's 'Wish You were Here'(Also found on GU 21), and then explodes again with the great Deep Dish remix of Delirium's Innocente - one of their best remixes that just makes me wanna dance!
Overall 5 stars - Yoshiesque is everything a mixed album should be - it takes the listener on a journey and never gets boring. Did I mention that the mixing is flawless? Hopefully Deep Dish will deliver more mixes of such great quality in the near future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfectly Chill Harmony
I've been listening to this all day, and it's the first album i've been able to sleep to listening because of it's chill beats and sounds. Without a lot of unnecessary noise and clatter, this album makes for great background noise, keeping a steady pace from the beginning to end tracks.

I probably wouldn't drive around listening to his, and I can't dance to this, but I've enjoyed the subtle color it's added to my mood today.

4-0 out of 5 stars More Trance, Less House, but Still All Good.
Instead of repeating the winning formula of "Yoshiesque," Deep Dish return with a solid Volume 2 that differs in mood and flavor. The tempo is a bit faster, and we get more trance than house this time around. Disc One didn't appeal to me at first, but it succeeds by the excellent mixing and melange of diverse grooves featuring the mid-tempo beats of Chemical Brothers to other upbeat, energetic house grooves with a dash of techno. Give it a couple of listens, and it will grow on you. Disc Two (which, like Disc 1, is 78 minutes) is more my flavor, with more traditional house numbers and less trance. Standouts include the opener "Finally" by Kings of Tomorrow and Morel's "Funny Car." Sequels may have a reputation of disappointing, but Volume 2 is a smart step forward for the remixing duo of Dubfire and Sharam. In my school of music, this CD gets a B.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deep Dish shows why they're one of the top DJs in America
Let me start off by saying that I was not immediately taken by this CD set. I started off by listening to disc 1 (called Westcoast). For what it is, it is a very good mix of chill-out house music which would be perfect for the drive home from a long night of partying. However, some of the tunes can tend to wear out their welcome and can sometimes lead me to reach for the skip button. I quickly moved on to CD 2 (Eastcoast). This is where you'll find your hard-earned money was well spent. This, in my opinion, is one of the, if not the best mix of progressive house and trance I have ever heard. Deep Dish shows you how being a DJ is not just about being able to mix two tracks together (which they happen to so superbly), but to take the listener on a journey. This CD not just should be, but DEMANDS to be listened to from beginning to end with no pauses or skips. To do it any other way would be like taking a quote out of the context of a conversation, it doesn't have the same meaning. The journey begins at the most minimial level, with the stunningly soothing vocal of Julie McKnight singing King's of Tomorrow's "Finally". The atmosphere builds through some driving progressive house to a beautifully trippy remix of Dusted's "Always Remember to Respect & Honour Your Mother" to the peak explosiveness of Greed's "Strangeworld" where the powerful sub-bass hits you like a freight train. Things level off with the bleepy apocalyptic mixes of "Afrika" and "I Wish You Were Here". Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer never sounded so good as her sample on "Innocente" and Morel and Espiritu lend the perfect come-down to this heavenly mix. Throughout the mix is a liberal use of sub-bass patterns (my personal favorite) which lend a feeling of power to even the most meek tune. This CD grips you and doesn't let go, taking you from blissed out house, through tripped out progessive madness to full-on club-shaking trance and back again. Make sure you have a good hour to yourself before starting this CD because it deserves your undivided attention. ... Read more

Album Description

The legendary master of the wheels of steel, former member of Terranova, and initiator of the infamous Ghost Cauldron project now returns as Kaos with his most mature solo effort to date.

Musically, Hello Stranger has a very versatile sound, blending Electronica, Disco, Funk and Rock all into one continuous flow. Kaos stated that, "…the album is a ‘good time album’, one that you can have fun with both at home on the couch, as well as in the club on the dancefloor".

Kaos acquired an assortment of musicians and singers to collaborate on the Hello Stranger project. Names like Erlend Øye, Daniel Wang, Khan and Snax all appear on the album.Captain Comatose, Matt B. Safer (The Rapture), the performance artist Namosh, Nicole (Electrocute), Boy from Brazil, Eddy Cooper and Jason Friedman (from New York punk rockers The Boggs) are also featured on the album.

Hello Stranger elegantly reflects the sound that Kaos has been cultivating for years as a DJ. It is a sound that equally features the sound of yesterday and today, where the past, present and future rule. Based on the solid conviction that music is a medium that can independently transcend all chronological and genre related definitions, what counts is simply the good vibe, the good groove and the uniqueness of sound. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars More than a Chill-Out Album
A long term Faithless fan who was pleased to hear something from their highly creative minds, filling the long gap between releases. The CD wasn't what I expected in that many of the tracks are true to their original form, however this is an eclectic and excellent collection of songs. Given the recent popularity of Dido (who appears on the CD), I suspect that this will open up a new audience for Faithless and many of the artists within the mix which includes the brilliant Tindersticks. Enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Chillout CD
This is one of the best chillout CD's I've purchased. The "Back to Mine" series is generally great to exceptionally and this CD is right there. Starts out with very dreamy songs - Dusted, Dido and then works up to a great upbeat rhythm, Bent, Alex Gopher - ends with some classics - Mazzy Star and Aaron Neville. Awesome Faithless CD.

1-0 out of 5 stars COMPLETELY HORRIBLE!!!!!
Wow I've had bad cds but this one tops them all. I can not
understand how people rated this with 5 and 4 stars. This cd
is boring and stupid. There were however two songs I did like,
but I already had them on other cds, better cds. Please do not
waste a cent on this junk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Back to Mine CD
The Back to Mine series is a great collection that allows you to experience the music behind the music created by yoru favorite artists. Some of the CDs can be quite surprising in that the artists sometimes throw tracks on that they enjoy and influence them but yet are far afield from the sound of that artist. Not Faithless. This CD evokes the soulful melodies and harmonies that you find on a Faithless CD and is mixed quite well! It helps to have a DJ in your band! This is a GREAT chill out CD and the best of the Back to Mine series to date.

5-0 out of 5 stars So good.
This compilation is a great entry in the Back to Mine series. Sister Bliss and Rollo chose the tracks and wrote the liner notes. Pauline Taylor's (a regular Faithless contributer)song "Solo Flying Mystery Man" kicks .... I highly recommend this very relaxing cd to everyone. ... Read more
