Album Description

1995 release featuring 13 tracks from electronica wiz Richard D. James, including a live version of 'Digeridoo' from Cornwall in 1990, plus two mixes of 'We Have Arrived' (Aphex Twin QQT Mix & Aphex Twin TTQ Mix) and 'Tamphex' (Hedphuq Mix). Standard jewel case. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Landmark contemporary electro!
Those who experienced Aphex Twin firsthand through the MTV-spun industrial screeching of "Come To Daddy" may not be familiar in his earlier work, which drew much of its inspiration from the early acid house and techno of A Guy Called Gerald, and LFO etc. There's arguably more conventional stuff here in the form of material like "Polynomial-C" (which could easily be mistaken for early Prodigy), and the ambient-plod of "Analogue Bubblebath". Nevertheless, this stuff never bores. The harsh conveyor-belt thwack of "Flaphead" is invigorating in a punky, energetic way, while "We Have Arrived I" sounds like an early precursor to the later industrial-tinged stuff that would dominate his later work. "Digeridoo", for example, is an early composition completed when Richard James was just 16, comprising a sampled digeridoo to an unorthodox, squelchy beat. The sense of humour ever-present in Aphex Twin surfaces here in the form of "Tamphex", a homage (sort of) to sanitary protection commercials and features the hilarious sample "Are you one of those girls for who time stands still once a month? ", proceeded by some industrial-techno screeching and screams of "Tampax, tampax, tampax! ". "Classics" does exactly what it says on the tin, providing a fascinating insight into the dorky dementia of Cornwall's most exciting sound-terrorist, and a landmark collection of contemporary electronic music to boot.

4-0 out of 5 stars harsh industrial rhythms but some bubblebathy bits too
a good collection of otherwise hard to find singles & rarities. much more engaging then other afx collections of this sort (i'm thinking particularly of the caustic window compilation, which is mostly unlistenable acid noise). these tracks have marvelous clanging rhythm... a nerdy thing i used to do when listening was to concentrate on each separate sound layer and try to simultaneously focus on each-- the hi hat, the bass, the countless miscellaneous noises. although the relentless industrial poundings of tracks like 'flaphead' may daunt, they're leavened by more delicate melodies such as analogue bubblebath I. not a big fan of the digeridoo but there are some funny samples to be found... "are you one of those girls for whom time stands still once a month?" and, one of my favorite afx moments, when the helicopter acid bubbling of phloam (or is it poly-c?) abruptly halts and a magical fairy-child's voice sings, "the flowerrrs that bloom / in the warmth of the sun / are there to be loved / by everyone..." and then *WOO* the acid bubbling kicks in again!!

good stuff. recommended for fans of earlier afx, especially 'quoth'

3-0 out of 5 stars a mixed bag from a great artist
There are great songs on here... but because it's a compilation, I find the ordering of the tracks to be a bit capricious. This is definitely not a place to start if you are interested in RDJ. 'Didgeridoo' is a stunning gem though... and probably worth the price of the album.

3-0 out of 5 stars I wouldn't call these Classics
The tracks on this compilation aren't worthy to be called Classics, his newer (94'-present) stuff is alot better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Techno meets Experimental
I'd have to say this is probably the best example of RDJ's "techno" persona. Many of the songs are very 'odd' and eerily dark which makes for a very awesome listen! It's almost like the beats (many songs do have the persistant techno "thump-thump-thump-thump") were included as a joke, or a sadistic twist, "I dare you to dance to this" kinda thing. The techno-industrial noise/sounds are oddly interrupted by the pleasent "Analogue Bubblebath" and the semi-Gothic "Polynomial-C". Overall, this album is an excellant Aphex Twin experinece showing, as always, that he knows what he's doing and is VERY good at it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Its not happy2bhardcore
I thought it would be the happy hardcore I like, things like Happy2bHardcoreCh 1-4, etc. I would say its more of hard trance cd mixed in with happy sounds.

5-0 out of 5 stars great cd
ok, forget what i said, this cd isnt better than the anaboic frolic series, but it right up there with them. polka? where do pp get that at? this is true happy hardcore.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheez Balls...
umm so, if anyone listens to happy hardcore you know that already its cheez ballish. But seriously man, this cd [is not good] hardcore style. Its wannabe commercialized [bad] fest of glory. I guess I could give it 5 stars if their main goal was to create something the [is not good]...but this isnt the case. Bad cd, in my humble opinion anyways. So if you do like this cd, super doopers, otherwise JOIN me on a journey to FREEDOM!

5-0 out of 5 stars forget Happy2bHardcore!!!!
this cd is non-stop old school happy hardcore! it has all the little happy melodies and top speed! half of these songs are faster than the anabolic frolic series!!! you just cant stop jumping up and down when you hear this cd!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Epitome of Happy
This album will get you bouncing. From the opening song which pleads you to "Get Ready for the World of Happy Hardcore," to the very last song, non-stop bouncing.

A couple of clunkers late in the CD prevent this from being a 5. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Compilation worth Consuming!
Superstition, like Hooj and MFS, has always been one of my favorite record labels. This album delivers, with a highlight of strong european house, including classic tracks by L.S.G., Gee Shock, Humate, and Quazar (w Karl Hyde of Underworld!) The second CD is a 1 track, 72 min. flawless set of favorites mixed by LSG and Jeff Tyler! Also try "Best of Humate" form this label. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome tunes to dance to!
Ok, this cd is one of the best I have ever heard. It's great to work out to, and even to sleep to. I first bought it for my boyfriend because he has the rest of the collection of cd's by Frankie Bones, and he did not have this one. I listened to it, and I fell in love w/ it. So if you love to break dance or just love gettin your groove on, you deffinately have got to get this album. It's the best in every way, shape, and form!

5-0 out of 5 stars Frankie Bones is God!
All and all this is an awesome compilation CD. Great for those just starting to add on to their collections. As great as most of these artists are, one just seems to always stand out over the rest....Frankie Bones just rocks my world, and this album stands up to that. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome German Techno
This song is awesome. However I disagree with a previous reviewer, "Faster, Harder Scooter" by Scooter is the best song ever.

This single is apparently unavailable, so I recommend you get Scooter's album "Rough and Tough and Dangerous." It's a great CD and "Fire" is on it.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST SONG EVER
This is a brilliant song and you'd be missing out on something big if you don't buy it NOW!

5-0 out of 5 stars FIRE!

3-0 out of 5 stars eh...
Some of the CDs sounds more trance/rave than techno the further the discs progress. Hard to believe none of the pioneers (atkins, saunderson, mills...were included in this "history of techno" compilation).

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Techno-Compilations ever released
In my opinion this is a very good set of techno music, specially for those who do not really like the fundamentalistic hardcore-techno-beats. As i have been watching the development of techno from an underground style to some kind of mainstream-oriented dancefloor, this cd-set could lead you through the times. Visitors of the 1998 love parade in berlin will confirm: techno's best times are over. ("They never come back") ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars BEWARE!!
Sht like this really angers me. Stupid commercial people decided to abuse the genre name "happy hardcore" to make a buck off new/ignorant kids. if you came here looking for happy hardcore, leave right now!

4-0 out of 5 stars not happycore, but its cool =)
i like techno and happy hardcore and this is kinda a mix of both. i have this cd and i love it but if you want happyhardcore then check out the happy 2b hardcore chapters mixed by anabolic frolic. they're cool. keep SMILING! =)

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT HAPPY AT ALL
If you like happy hardcore forget that you ever even saw this cd. Block it out of your memory. This cd is not happy harcore so dont waster your time or money on it. Also if there are any hardcore kids out there who have or know where to get the dreamscapes cd set with the slippmatt happt hardcore cd please email me I lost mine in a move and cant fid it anywhere.

1-0 out of 5 stars No Happiness.
I was expecting Happy Hardcore, and it makes me mad that I got this cd. The only song I really like was Raver Chic. The cd I recomend for everyone to buy is Happy Rave 95. It has Marusha with a song that is acually happy called "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" (everyone knows what this song is) And Mark Oh with the song "Tears Don't Lie" If you all want happy get Happy Rave 95. Sorry but this cd made me sad, not happy.

2-0 out of 5 stars ok if u like trance, but doesn't really sound like happycore
this cd was a big disappointment to me, i was expecting some hardcore, and got trance instead i recommend the happy2bhardcore series by anabolic frolic ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as All Of Us Can Be Rich.
This is definitely not nearly as good as their first American release AOUCBR. I was looking forward to getting this and I did, but most of the "songs" are not even songs. There are some songs but even then they don't sound so good because after they make the songs they put fuzz over top of them so the actual song might be good but fuzziness drowns it out. There is one really good track, "Until Everything Explodes". Her voice sounds real cool. -(But unfortunately it's only 2 and a-half minutes long) The Sh!t that you dig, is pretty good too but like I said, the rest of the songs are either terribly fuzzy or just random bleeps bloops fuzz , (badly) sampled guitar riffs, and just noise. Make sure you really know what's on here before you buy it is my suggestion. Check out All Of Us... by EC8OR if youi want to see their talent. ... Read more
