When Coldcut initially released 70 Minutes of Madness, in 1997, it caused a mighty stir among the dance community. Mixing drum and bass, electro, dub, hip-hop, reggae, experimental sounds, and avant-garde techno into a tight and cohesive whole, it was seen as one of the decade's most daring, mischievous, and innovative mixes. One of the album's main achievements was to render many so-called mix compilations narrow and basic, so its current re-release into a musical climate saturated with insipid comps couldn't be more timely or relevant. Not a beat is missed as the record barrels and blusters through tune after tune, climbing from peak to peak with mighty, imaginative strides. If you missed out first time around, this is a golden opportunity to seriously enhance your collection. --Paul Sullivan ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite simply: magnificent
In some circles, this mix has been labeled "one of the greatest mixes of all time." That's a tough accolade to live with, but this cd certainly manages the burden with ease, so much so that I was drawn to buy a original copy on "an auction website" last year...!

A journey by dj this truly is. A fan of electronic music for many a year, having cut my teeth on the rave scene of Scotland, and later led through a transition to techno and house by Slam, I found this cd surprising on the first listen. But even now, each time I play it, I find something new to keep my focus. The variety of sounds and styles is what makes this cd great: hip-hop, drum n' bass, techno and even Doctor Who! The mish mash of sound, coupled with probably the most samples used on a mix cd ever, are pulled together by expert mixing skills. This journey just keeps you coming back for more...

There are defining moments in music. The timing of the originl release was perfect, and in years to come, aging ravers and clubbers everywhere will play this cd to their grandkids and say: "This mix pulls together all things that are great about the electronic music scene."

Enough said. Save yourself [money] and buy this cd while you can...!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Grave Robbers from Outer Space
To avoid the disappointment felt by Mr. One-Star below, realise that this CD is a far cry from 'Havin it Large in Ibiza Vol. 9'.
'70 Minutes of Madness' is often quoted by the dance music press as being one of the most influential mix CDs, which it indeed is, but falls more on the side of DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist's Product Placement mix, only more eclectic.
The blending of styles rather than the individual tracks are what have made this mix stay fresh since it's release, with 'side 2's' Luke Slater/Joanna Law/Photek/Boogie Down Productions splice forming what should be released as a song in it's own right.
Throw into this melting pot a hundred and one different sound snippets and samples, like the Dr.Who theme, old (hilarious) karate movie dialogue and B-movie introductions and the thing comes alive.
If you're interested but unsure of the content, check the artists. Red Snapper, Tim 'Love' Lee, Dead Kennedy's Jello Biafra and Photek in a couple of guises.

5-0 out of 5 stars you really do need this...
I paid more for this CD than any other in my collection... and I still think I got the better end of the deal! I have well over 200 sets in my collection, and I still rank this one in my top 5. This set crosses many musical genres with relative ease. Who else would dare to cross Funki Porcini, Plastikman, Jello Biafra, and a Roberta Flack rework? Nothing "cold" about these cuts, just plain ol' brilliance.

For those wise enough to heed my advice... you're welcome.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Definitive Masterpiece
Probably the best DJ set in the world. Made 8 years ago, it's still as fresh today. Tracks mould into a continues blend, creating one continues masterpiece. Tracks from completely different genres find a place together without being out-of-place, and it's all done with the skills of a warm heart. It's amazing that they are called *Coldcut* since they're sets are worm and human, and you can't help leaving with a smile on your face (-:«

5-0 out of 5 stars What a journey. Do you know the road map?
I have always found Coldcut to be one of the more interesting producers, their mixes are original and perhaps a little hectic. There are always signs along the way however and the beats hold this journey together. You think these songs don't belong together but Coldcut is too gifted forthis to be an obstacle. There are segways and interludes that connect the tunes and a few surprises(the wicki wicki song and Jello Biafra)so that this is not a complilation. I wouldn't think anyone would be bored by this mix, but if your looking for the usuall "DJ" complilation of one song after the next your going to be dissappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth more then you might think
I have everything B of C have done and this is one of the best. They are at their most happy-sounding, almost giddy, with the first two tracks and then a meloncholy, gorgeous third track. The tracks flow together perfectly and it's impossible to listen to this and not feel slightly happier and in a better mood. It's minimal - short and sweet, if they put any more on it would ruin the effect.

You may not think it's worth it, but this is a really special record.
ok, this is a single with 3 tracks:
-Aquarius - a different and MUCH better version then on 'Music has the Right...'

-Happy Cycling - already on the american release of 'Music has the Right...'

-Olsen - see Aquarius. Almost a completely different track. Extremely beautiful.

3-0 out of 5 stars = good compared to avg but 2=so-so if you have MHtRtC
OK, this CD was worthwhile for me only b/c my copy of MHtRtC was a ($...) promo that was missing the amazing Happy Cycling. The other two peel sessions of album tracks are an interesting example of what can be lost when a song is excessively layered ... the changes make you appreciate the album versions even more intently, but aside from that aren't so hot. Therefore, I'd deem this as an intellectual nonessential for the curious ... with, of course, strong urging to for the seeker to be sure to own Music Has the Right to Children. (...)

5-0 out of 5 stars The best thing they've yet done
I really love this release. Short, yes, but it is very VERY good, the one CD of theirs which I play the most.

VERY recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Da Bomb
Boards of Canada are the bomb, this disc is the bomb, buy it

3-0 out of 5 stars 3 stars for quality, not quantity
The tracks on this cd are very good, but I can't justify the price for the very short playing time. As another reviewer has noted, the album is better value. Also check out 'Hi-Scores', a superior 6-track ep. ... Read more

Amazon.com essential recording

Whether it's Caustic or Polygon Window, AFX, or just plain Richard James, the man known as Aphex Twin always writes dream-inspired music. Not pleasant, running though a field of flowers dreams, but dark, paranoid, and haunting nightmares. The third installment of Analogue Bubblebath is no exception, and continues in the same demented direction as previous volumes. Describing individual tracks this time around is more difficult than usual, as each track is given a (seemingly) random serial number rather than a traditional title. The only exception is "AFX 6/b," an ambient, electro number that tweets, chirps, and hums with mechanical inspiration. Other tracks range from the sound of stuck machine cogs mixed with phazer fire to scratchy minimal techno to gurgling guttural noises. Frightening but inspired. --Daniel Shumate ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars it all started with this LP
Just great. I am a fan of his music for quite a while and all of his records are special in their own way. Tracks with a little twist only RDJ can add. Sometimes a bit sinister, but thats ok for me! Most of his tracks are sertainly refreshing and energy boosting. A philosopher teacher once said: "to enjoy and appreciate the quality of sertain aspects (of whatsoever) you have to have rotten spots besides it". In case of some of the tracks ("ventolin" (medicine for asthmatic patiens) for example in which you hear a sample of a person hyperventilating), annoying bleeps, cracks and sounds are added in such way that when they fade away in a track you almost feel a releef....a contrast between serenety and rotten (no offence)

5-0 out of 5 stars creativity at its best!
amazing, i love the song "Entrance to Exit" as it feels like a Tornado is consuming your very presense. The molody creates a fast merry go round tornado effect that sweeps you away.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great cd
Well i've owned this cd for a while now and i would have to say that its one of the best i own. Its only problem is its length. Its really short. Either way the tracks are good. The best in my opinion would have to be "Enterance To Exit". Its such an awesome song! WEll all i can say is this: if you like aphex twin then you should own this album. Its great!

4-0 out of 5 stars Motion pool
This EP was one of AFX's first commercially available efforts. In his early days, Richard was the embodiment of a bedroom producer, and so the sound quality of this EP release isn't the best. Nevertheless, this CD-single displays the unique abilities of AFX, and it's great fun to listen. The title track is one of his gentler ventures, an acid house track with bubbling water noises (of course!) and delicate harmonies. The combination of harsh beats and psychedelic melodies is also featured here, as "Iso.." demonstrates. The furious rhythms and distorted vocal samples of "Entrance.." prefigure the metal/techno-crossover sound of "Come to daddy". "AFX2" is a typical ambient-techno number which would easily fit onto "Selected ambient works 1". Nevertheless, I think this EP will remain an item for completists. The title track and "Iso.." are featured on Aphex Twin's "Classics", a collection of early hardcore tracks. "Entrance.." was also available on "Wasted", a compilation of unreleased material from the likes of Autechre, The Orb, and Underworld.

4-0 out of 5 stars RDJ, love him or hate him....

1-0 out of 5 stars Hardcore!?
Ok, my friend told me this band was an insane straight edge hardcore band... Umm... first of all, this isnt hardcore, its freaking metal. Hardcore is like Black Flag, Minor Threat, Negative Approach, etc... All this is straight edge militant metal. Seriously, many of the "hardcore" kids who listen to this stuff go out and kick peoples ass just because they smoke or drink. Wow that sure is what sXe is about, beating someone up because they think diferently than you. That sure is unity. Now im not saying all of these kids do that, but there sure in hell are alot of em. Metalcore is not hardcore, get it right. If you like metal get this cd. If you like ACTUAL hardcore pass on this one and pick up "Total Recall" by Negative Approach.

5-0 out of 5 stars SxE
frank saponare hey man i bet you feel pretty safe talking crap about the sXe kids behind your computer, you must feel like a real man, but go say sXe is "poop" over at a hardcore show and see what happens to you!
Throwndown is a great band with a good message skip all that negative music.

1-0 out of 5 stars ITS MILLER TIME!
X poop X.

you hardcore kids should pick up as much change as possible, take it all to a record store, and buy some new cds.
garbage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome..awesome!
Throwdown is the best hardcore band out there. With metalcore and hardcore mixed into one band, these guys are the heaviest band I have ever heard. The screams are great and the guitars are amazing. If you like these guys, check out Dillinger Escape Plan.

4-0 out of 5 stars ...And they do exactly that
This record, from one of the few California hardcore bands to gain national attention, can be summed up in one descriptive word: MOSH. That's exactly what this band wants you to do, and they help you through it with easy-to-shout-along words and plenty of tough-as-nails breakdowns. All you tough guys, limber up and get ready to bust out with the windmills and floorpunches; Beyond Repair is one of those records that you just cannot sit still while listening. Meant to be played at high levels, Throwdown delivers a devastating sonic assault from start to finish. Many consider this to be the best Throwdown release, and it definitely accomplishes what it sets out to do. So why only 4 stars? Well, there is not a lot of variety on this album. Not all albums NEED variety, but in this case, it is difficult to listen to this from start to finish without getting a little bored in the middle. However, the standout tunes (No One, Don't Lose Sight, Power Figure, and Get Sick) are enough to make this a worthy investment. ... Read more

For all the millennial hoo-hah he wrapped his music in, L.T.J. Bukem never made it to the future, only holding on to his pop moment for, well, a moment. By the time Americans heard his easy-listening version of jungle, the Brits had stopped listening. That shouldn't undercut the importance of what he did, though (hey, junglists need to feel classy, too), and there's no better showcase for his urbane aesthetic than this '96 two-CD compilation, which features Bukem mixing the likes of Adam F and DJ Trace while MC Conrad gooses the music with his unmistakably minimalist interjections. "The beats go forward / The beats go back," Conrad announces at one point. Give Bukem and his acolytes credit: though their synth pads could get a bit gooey, they snuck some unpredictable rhythm tracks beneath the gauze. Other meaningful verse from two guys who always understood that you can shake a dance floor without beating it over the head: "You like the, you like the / Beats so loud / I like to, I like to / Move the crowd." --Jeff Salamon ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Different, but still excellent.
I really enjoy LTJ Bukem's brand of jungle, and this is no exception. There is a slightly different sound here than on his GLO releases, however. This compilation is a little harder, and a little less lush than say your typical Progression Sessions release. Here it seems Bukem focused on more on bass and breaks than on the swooning atmospherics that made classics like Logical Progression so popular. This is not a bad thing. Quality tracks like Orca's "Discovery", and Future Sound Of Hardcore's "Desire" and "Euphoria" are easy highlights. This is CD2. CD1 on the other hand, which features MC Conrad's horrid chanting, or rapping, or whatever you call it, is hardly listenable just because of that (which is the reason the whole compilation only received 3 stars. As a cheaper, single disc compilation featuring only CD2, the compilation would receive 4 stars).

Fans of other Bukem CD's might enjoy this, but I'd recommend Logical Progression as a more suitable starting point for those just beginning to explore his catalouge.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing, mindblowing
the maximum in chill, dance, and heart-stopping beats. this album makes my heart flutter, and my mind go to crazy places. without drugs, i might add. absolutely amazing, and mc conrads vocals are just about the best ive ever heard. absolutely incredible. im in love with this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars an awesome classic
This has to be one of my favorite mix CDs of all time. Early intelligent d'n'b. Really drummy just like i like it. This is one of the earlier conrad/bukem CDs and in my opinion one of the best. If you like bukem this is a must have.

5-0 out of 5 stars great jungle from LTJ -- as expected
If you are a d'n'f fan get this cd. If you are a LTJ fan don't wait.

I am a big time LTJ fan, but don't let that thought underestimate the importance of this cd. Featuring many all time progressive jungle classics this cd is a must have for everyone who enjoys electronic music out there. Oh MC Conrad is magnificinet as always. You will especially enjoy his words rythmically blending to the beats and few lyrics of (Adam F's) Circles. The other tracks are great too. Don't wait just buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intricate Electronica
I like this album ~ in the style of electronica, it has intricate sounds and a great beat. One can listen to it as background or enjoy the fascinating depth and varied sounds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Song, Awesome group
I got this CD because I heard Juno Reactor's songs on The matrix Reloaded Album. Granted, this is VERY different, but really really cool. it is a single, but every track sounds noticably different. oh, and the cover art is just awesome, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great track
As far as singles go, this one is very good. Granted, it is the same song, but one thing that's great about Juno Reactor is that their remixes always have something to set one apart from the other. "Pistolero" is no different.

Pistolero has one of the most unique sounds I've ever heard. It takes the pure trance of Beyond the Infinite and merges with it the sound of the music of spaghetti westerns. This may sound odd, but they pull it off amazingly. I listened to this single constantly for at least three days and was constantly singing the theme. One thing to be careful of though. If you really like this single, but haven't heard anything else by Juno Reactor, you may be dissapointed if you buy Shango, because Shango is not all like this. If you want to hear more Juno Reactor, check out Beyond the Infinite first, or the Samuari EP. If you like what you hear there, you'll most likely like Shango as well.

This track is worth the money. It's a very different sound that actually works. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome compilation of house techno!
If you really enjoy grooving to house aka. garage, trance etc this CD is excellent! I especially love the tracks by 'The Thrillseekers' and 'Salt Tank'. If you can catch Gatecrasher on their world tour I'd highly recommend that you go.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well its Gatecrasher what more can i say?....
CD1: After the warm up with Carl cox, we follow a very good cd wih Recognisable Trance less Diverse compared to CD 2, although there are some here that have only been released at the time of me writing this! (oh has anyone seen Skyscraper -'The Hymn' anywhere yet? )We have some soft Trance or "nice" Trance with Lustral 'Everytime', Hybrid, Thrillseeker's "Synthanesia", Matt dareys "Liberation" (Ferry Corsten Remix)and not forgetting Chicane's "Saltwater" (Disco Citizens Remix)

CD2: On here more hardcore tech/Trance than the first CD and Ultimately this CD is the best of the two! The tracks are all great on this side, giving an excellent mix.

IN GENERAL: This is a CD that no Trance fan should be without! It is one of the best because of the number of fresh new tracks that no other CD compliation were using, making it worth your money even if you have other Trance Compliations! The only complaint is the heavy use of editing to fit the compliation, making many tracks short and sweet, leaving you wanting more. But anyway I reckon this CD is one of the best compilations you can buy and get value and enjoyment out of it. Non - Clubbers should keep clear of it though.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best trance album I have ever heard
After a friend recommended this, i bought it straight away. I was amazed. I have never been able to discover an album where every song is good, and mixing has been so dreamy! Now mine is scratched badly and finding it again has been a nightmare, I recommend this to any trance bunny. And listen to track 11 on disc 2, "I believe" by Lange, its a classic. Thank u amazon for having it in stock!

5-0 out of 5 stars Electronic Aficionado finds this a CLASSIC!
I have all the Gatecrasher cd's and tons of electronic compilations, and this is by far the best. This was my first electronic cd and it has been impossible to find any to match it. The songs are extremely beautiful and danceable. The cd never gets boring or repetitive. There is a mix of beautiful and dreamy tracks to the hard and pumping ones.

You cannot go wrong with this compilation. It is absolutely perfect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great acid jazz / downtempo collection
Awesome. This compilation includes wildly divergent styles - jazz, downtempo, breakbeat, hip-hop, drum and bass, etc. The result is always seamless, and eclectic rather than jumbled. Standouts are "To Forgive But Not To Forget," with it's mournful violin, and "Migration," which runs along with a skittering tabla beat. L.T.J. Bukem and Jungle Brothers also lend a hand to this 4th of an incredible collection. Cool, hip, club-oriented jazz perfect for chilling out or driving to. Check out the first three in the collection if you like the jazzier, more laid back elements of this album.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Rebirth Of Cool Volume 4
This series is one of the more "boutique" ,selective compilations I have heard - I like most of the tracks as opposed other compilations where there are 1-3 stand out tracks and the rest are fillers. I still find it a little on the "generic side" for it to become an absolute favourite and I have given it a lesser rating than the predicted rating, based on this.

5-0 out of 5 stars The rebirth keeps getting better. My Favorite
Most of the music from the rebirth series have been jazz based, (so to speak) vol. 4 is decidedly club based. Many of the songs on this CD have a very club/trance like sound. But the music is exceptional. From begingin to end the tracks on this CD are all excellentListening to this Cd made me seek out the music by the individual arts. The sultry Underwater love starts vol. 4 off on a strong note. The music actually makes you feel as though you are under water. Another track that really stands out is the magnificent To Forgive or Forget. I never heard a violin used in club music. Cottonwol is another absolutely splendid track with its' distorted vocals and space age sound effects. Other strong cuts are Migration, Ponteio, who could it be now and my personal favorite Bittersweet. Well worth it for the adventerous listener.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truely an Anytime Album
This is a great album. Underwater Love is brilliant and really stands out. Just about every track is amazing and the Rebirth of Cool series is a well made purchase for those who like Portishead, Tricky, Headhunters and other similar bands. Its jazzy, fresh, and cool.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's like taking a bath without any water...
This CD has quickly become one of my all-time favorites. My friend Woobie and I think that song #5 ("Cottonwool" by Lamb) is best appreciated after a long and eventful night on the town. Definitely one of the best kept secrets in music. Two enthusiastic thumbs up! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars ÿberzone Delivers What He Started Many Years Ago...
The elusive full-length album by electro funk madman Q has finally hit the stores. With singles such as "The Freaks", "Botz" and "2 Kool 4 Skool" floating around for some years now, its about damn time that Q got this record out. "Faith in the Future" is a tour de force of electro funk rhythms, zany samples and out-of-the-ordinary sequencing. And Q doesn't go at it alone, production credits on this album include Rennie Pilgrem, Ken Jordan (Crystal Method), and the voices of Beenie Man, Page Hamilton, and Afrika Bambaataa. Q's style of pure electronic sound-scapes is done perfectly on this album. He manages to deliver the sounds of pure electronic craftsmanship with a natural, funky style. The opening track "Beat Bionic" is a great electro funk track featuring the masterful scratching of Davey Dave and Sure 2 B on the wild vocoded lyrics. Other highlights on this album include "Dreamtime" where Linda Husik's vocals are clipped and laced into a beautiful sequence that bridges Q's electro breaks with ambient styling for a purely euphoric result. "Bounce" is another great track with Q's signature programming styles. "2 Kool 4 Skool" is a great collaboration with Bambaataa, bridging the old skool sounds with today's breakbeat styles. The only track that I found disappointing was "Keep Go-In" with Ken Jordan (1/2 of the Crystal Method). The talent that they both have, I was expecting something that slams, instead of something that only brushes the surface of their talent. This track is just fluff, only a small step up from an old arcade game soundtrack. The rest of the tracks grow on you; this is one of those albums you can't jump to conclusions after one listen. This is one to listen to over the course of a few days, giving each track its chance to show you its real face.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Album - Great Music
Although many people have seemed to be disappointed by Uberzone's newest release, "Faith in the Future," I can't seem to understand why. His singles have always been great - creative and compelling. On the album, Q has revamped some of his old favorites and added a broad spectrum of new songs as well. Each track stands out on its own, and has something to offer. Frankly, much of this album is some of the best breakbeat I have ever heard. Also, the track, "Dreamtime" is perhaps one of the most beautiful and energetic songs I have heard in a long time. Wonderfully mellow yet pulsing with energy. At Uberzone's live performance here in San Francisco, the crowd went wild... Even more so than they did for Crystal Method who played after them! With a bit more time to develop his style further, I think Uberzone will become a powerful force on the electronic/breakbeat scene. Do yourself a favor and support a great up and coming artist! BTW - To address another reviewer's praise of Uberzone's scratching - Uberzone doesn't scratch. The awesome scratching on the album and live performances is Davey Dave, who has also been heard on BT's latest album (Not sure if he is credited, though... There is a a bit of bad blood over this one...) and here and there on Crystal Method's new release.

4-0 out of 5 stars Guest appearances galore...nu skool breaks is here
After releasing many EP's on Astralwerks, we finally see a domestic release of a full-length album by Uberzone. Uberzone first made a name for themselves with the success of their single "The Freaks" back in 1998. The success of the track led to anticipation of an album, that has finally now arrived. Surprisingly, there are many guest appearances on this record by Beenie Man, Rennie Pilgrem, Afrika Bambaataa, Ken Jordan of The Crystal Method, and more. Most of the tracks on this album follow the same format as their older work; breaks with big beat and tribal house influence. Black Widow, the track that features Rennie Pilgrem was the most impressive in my mind (I played it 5 times before I went on to the next track). The amazing thing about Uberzone is that many of their tracks they released back in the late 90's still get played by breakbeat DJ's today. Their vision of how the music was going to sound in the future was brilliant (hence the title of the album, hint hint). Each track on this album delivers great intensity, and brilliant production....

2-0 out of 5 stars Good thing I bought it on sale
I bought this CD b/c of "Bounce" and nothing's changed.
I was really disappointed with FITF b/c it's not my type.
Other than boring beats and climaxes that are waiting to happen,
but dont; FITF just isn't fit for me.
I'll take Euro-house anyday.

4-0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed, but still quality work
If you have seen Uberzone live then you know that he is purely sensational. And if you know Uberzone, you know that all his previous singles have been dope. I guess that's why I was a little disappointed. This album is very good, but I expected it to be classic material, which it is not. If you are considering buying this album, and you are not familiar with Uberzone, you should understand that he specializes in ultra crisp, clean, science fiction like breaks. He is probably a bit of a science fiction nut or something....I don't know for sure but that's how his music sounds. But Uberzone always represents super quality production. He has skills for sure. The quality of the tracks is up to the brim......quality noises, sounds, samples, composure. See, I believe that when he created this album he created it EXACTLY the way he wanted it to sound. You just have to step off in his mind to appreciate where he is coming from............. ... Read more
