Album Description

This anticipated project showcases some of the most brilliant contributions to the evolution of what we have dubbed dance music; contributions that happen to have been produced exclusively by women. Spanning the spectrum from progressive house, trance, breaks and techno, all 14 tracks on this compilation have proven to be both musically and culturally significant. Featuring mad cuts from international artists including New York trance godess Sandra Collins; San Francisco's funky house madam Charlotte the Baroness and The Angel, Digital Empire: DJ Girl pays tribute to a new wave of producers whose studio work has influenced the direction of electronic music in the late 1990s while also making the stuff accessible to the masses. - from DJ Girl liner notes, by Simona Rabinovitch, Editor at Revolution Magazine ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Healthy Bowl of Electro a Day Keeps Bordom Away
Elctro Juice vol. 2 fulfilled all of my expectations that volume 1 gave me.Volume 2 has 12 new electro tracks from great electro producers such as Ectomorph. The tracks demonstrate the great way Electro may soundfrantic and chilled out at the same time. The music on this album isfilled with many artist all showing the listener how they've added theirown touch to Electro. Electro was once more popular than Techno orHouse amongst the Detroit clubs and is regaining its popularity through therelease of such CD's as Electro Juice vol. 2 and other CDs produced byTomTom from Aux 88.These new releases have caused the mind bendingsynthesized sounds of electro to regain their popularity.I stronglyrecommend this CD for anyone looking to add something different to his orher CD collection. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars WELL WORTH A LISTEN
I purchased this CD expecting to hear a few good ambient songs with a trance slant . I am happy to report that the entire cd is great - if you enjoy listening to cd's like Northern Exposure (Sasha and Digweed ) , Orb , William Orbit, Brian Eno - then this cd is well worth getting . It contains a balanced mix of ambient and trancey type songs - with little or no singing . Perfect for driving , or just listening to when the house is quiet and dark.

If you like this cd , then check out the other 2 cd's in the series ( there are 3 that I know of water , fire and earth ) . All 3 cd's are worth purchasing - especially at the reduced price . ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Vol. 6 - "Zeros & Ones Organized in Harmony"
Straight outta Germany. Tresor Records puts out it's SIXTH compilation. Excellent "Euro-techno" but it's not the same disc that is mentioned in the other review. It's only one cd and "Reunited", "Kickin Hard" and "Horny '98" are not on it. The play list is (1) The Theme from "Streetwalker" by Regis (2) One Sparkle by Fumiya Tanaka (3) Triple Darkness by Scan 7 (4) Sound Pressure (Part Two) by Surgeon & James Ruskin (5) L'Eau (Surgeon Remix) by Chrislo (6) Encounter by Pacou (7) They Bought You At The Party by Cristian Vogel (8) Used To Kiss Me by Blake Baxter feat. Taj (9) Tidal Wave Emulation by Neil Landstrumm (10) 101/106 by Heiko Laux (11) Thought Process by Infiniti (12) Octaedre by BC (13) Plate Element 2 by Substance. (P.S. 100 = 6, as in Tresor 100)

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have double CD for all euro-techno fans.
This CD is a must for lovers of Euro-techno. It contains the most popular techno hits that were performed at Berlin's "Techno Love Parade," an annual one day event where the best techno DJ's in the world perform live to over 1 million ravers in Berlin's streets. There is a little of everything on the CDs, almost none of which is played on American mainstream radio. The Westbam remix of Wu-Tang Clan's "Reunited", Klubbheads "Kickin Hard", & Mouse T. vs. Hot 'n' Juicy performing "Horny '98" are excellent. This is a great CD for testing the bass capacity of your stereo system. It will set your CD collection apart from everybody else's mainstream music. I can only speak positively of the double CD collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars New era of chill-out music.
While I agree that Signs of Life is brilliant, I am equally impressed by More Signs of Life.More Signs of Life blends all the twiddly chill-outbits into a soup of pure pleasure.

3-0 out of 5 stars More, yes.Better, no.
More Signs of Life definitely has the same feel as it's predecessor, Signs of Life.It is a somewhat laid-back, trippy, dubby-in-parts compilation. There are quite a few strange and interesting samples throughout.

It justdoesn't measure up to the first one, however. This disc is a pleasantlistening experience, easily worth the buy but if you were amazed by thetracks on Signs of Life, do not expect to necessarily be amazed by thisdisc, simply because it is the second in the series. ... Read more

Batucada is Brazil's heartbeat--the vibrant Carnivale drums that drive dancing hordes into São Paolo's streets, fuel Rio's decadent nights, and unite scattered cities under a banner of rhythmic solidarity and revolution. Caipirissima proposes the emergence of a "batucada eletrônica" among Brazilian producers swept up by the tide of the global electronic music revolution. The basement "guerrillas" profiled here surmount limited access to gear with an extra ounce of ingenuity and inspiration. Most popular shades of contemporary production mischief are represented--dub effects (João Parahyba, Ramilson Maia), careening dark-step breaks (Anvil FX, DJ Dolores), sampladelic vocal damage (Apollo 9), instrumental drop-ins (BiD), elegant drum and bass (I.N. Project), and the thwack of bass-bottomed hip-hop beats. "Zumbi," cYz's joyous clash of folksong lilt and sensually charged breakbeat, and the astonishing blends of batucada, glitch-riddled digitalia, and pure electro adrenaline delivered by Chelpa Ferro and Suba vs M.A.U. are particular triumphs of Caipirissima's traditional-meets-new sensibility. Meanwhile, though a world removed from the homeland, Brazilian expatriates Arto Lindsay, Amon Tobin, and DJ Soul Slinger maintain a vital psychic umbilical cord via the rhythms of batucada, even as they define the frontiers of modern pop and dance music. --Gil Gershman ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Electronique at its greatest
This album features a nice mix of downtempo, drum and bass, and other eletronic styles all with a salsa, latin vibe. A great mix of the present state of batucada. Not to be missed.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's Fonky
Like this a lot...in fact, it hasn't been out of the changer since I picked it up. Being a fan of all Brazilian music, I have to say that this is pretty compelling. Arto Lindsay I have been listening to for 10 years now, and his song "Whirlwind" is one of the mellower tracks here, and probably the most conventional in terms of following songform--but the other stuff is great, open-ended. Funky. Makes a great companion disc to Lindsay's "Hyper Civilizado," which I like quite a bit as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Samba + Electronica...Better
More than just the fusion of Brazilian and club beats, batucada electronica is in fact its own style and scene. As noted in previous reviews, drum 'n' bass is prevalent as a source, as is breakbeat in the broader sense. Beyond that however, the Brazilian-ness of the music goes beyond carnival to include more experimental inspirations like Hermeto Pascoal. The result is a truly Brazilian form of electronic dance music, and listening to this disc offers the mix of excitement and mental challenge that one gets seeing a form of music emerge from the underground. "Caipirissima" is not a party disc: It is challenging and rewarding (and still decidedly groove-ful) look at how Brazilian artists have adapted electronic music to their own ends.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice summer album, though not necessarily for relaxing
This is a very interesting CD, though if you're looking for gentle bossa breezes, it might disappoint you. It features quite a bit of drum n bass, and some wonderful experimental tracks, though, and it maintains high musical standards throughout. I must say that it's grown on me with subsequent listening, as it's much more dimensional than simply a "dance" album. "Whirlwind" is a beautiful song.

4-0 out of 5 stars EXTRA SMOOTH!
Just picked up a copy of this release today. It's been playing non-stop!

This joins right along with the rest of the outstanding Brazilian releases now coming out. If you are a fan of Suba, Zuco, or Amon Tobin, then DEFINITELY check this release out. It is smooth from start to finish.

If you are fan of the general vibe given off by the ESL team, or Bobby Hughes Exp., get this one too. It's the typical bossa-electronic, smooth-harmony vocals you find in Brazilian music of today.

Also, EXTREMELY worth checking out is the brand-spankin' new Amon Tobin release. In my opinion, it's his best to date (out of his prior two releaes on the Ninja Tune label).

In short, you will be pleased with this one. ... Read more

The German label Kitty-Yo presents its first soundtrack! The film Alaska.de depicts the dreams, search for orientation and sometimes violence of the post-'wall'-generation in the ghettos of East Berlin. The film could be described as something between 'Trainspotting' and 'La Haine'. Featuring rare material from acts such as Gonzales, Laub (remixed by Ninja Tune's Clifford Gilberto) as well as new upcoming artists on Kitty-Yo in 2001. The first CD includes all soundtrack material, the second is the score, composed, arranged and played by the current drummer of Einsturzende Neubauten, Rudi Moser. 3-0 out of 5 stars A mixed blessing
Speaking as someone who, no matter how he tries, cannot bring himself to like Black Tape..., the most remarkable thing about this CD is the fact that some of the bands manage to improve songs that I thought were irredeemable.

I don't know how Human Drama, Love Spirals Downwards, Lycia (in the case of "A Thousand Blades") and Faith & Disease (in the case of "Is It Love...") managed to find the patience to tease out the song structures that were buried in ambient droning on the originals...but they did, and we're all grateful for that.
Their contributions, along with Attrition's "Memory, Uncaring Friend", are demonstrably better than the originals and justify buying the CD even if you're a skeptic.

How well one responds to the rest depends on one's appetite for what I've already dismissed as "ambient droning" - I really can't imagine why people pay good money for 'music' as featureless as the Stay Frightened, Loveliescrushing and Sunwheel tracks here, or indeed Black Tape at their worst.

(If anyone from Amazon.com is reading this, I urge you to add Human Drama's "Lush Garden Within" to the song samples - a performance like that is more likely to sell CDs than most of the ones you've chosen.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!
This collection of song that were originally performed by Black Tape For A Blue Girl are re-performed in such unique ways that you almost forget that the songs are covers. However, when you listen to the passion that can be easily tasted by your eardrums in the sounds of the many different voices and instruments, you can easily sense the utter respect and love that these many bands have for BTFABG. I suggest this double CD set for anyone who loves the unique music of Black Tape. Please enjoy this diversity of Gothic ambiance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than expected mix CD by Alex Gold
I had never known who Alex Gold was before picking up the Xtravaganza Mix. Quite surprisingly, he is the owner of Xtravaganza records, one of the most popular and well-known dance labels in the world.

The Xtravaganza Mix is filled with some of the most famous names in dance music: John '00' Fleming, Members of Mayday, Coast 2 Coast, DJ Tiesto, Three Drives On A Vinyl, Paul van Dyk, etc. Alex Gold proves he is an undeniable professional with his beat-matching and key-matching abilities. For the most part, the records he chooses are both melodic and beautiful, not to mention VERY dancey. My favorite songs include Members of Mayday - '10 in 1 (Paul van Dyk Remix)', Coast 2 Coast - 'Home', Three Drives On A Vinyl - 'Sunset On Ibiza', and Paul van Dyk - 'Different Journey to Vega'.

>> A perfect 5 stars. Alex Gold not only knows how to mix his golden records, but has a good sense of what songs sound good together and what order they should be played in. This is a skill only the upper tier of professional DJs can successfully maneuver.

- the enlightened one

Sadly enough, the Xtravaganza mix looks like it has been highly overlooked. Hopefully its sequel, the Ibiza edition, will catch on to a much larger audience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great flawlessly mixed cd by DJ Alex Gold!
This is one of my favorite new trance cd's. The DJ, Alex Gold spins at Privilage, a nightclub in Ibiza. This selection of trance songs are mixed so flawlessly you'd never know the DJ switched records until you realize your listening to a whole new song. Amazing! The songs are all first rate starting with Member of Mayday's "10 in 01" (Paul Van Dyk Remix), Coast 2 Coast's "Home", John "OO" Flemming's "Belfast Trance" featuring Simple Minds, as well as "Superstring" by Cygnus X. The other songs are great too! This is one great collection no trance lover should be without! Highly recommended! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A fairly good introduction to Trance
This compilation includes what were (and still are) some of the finest tracks and tunes of the Trance genre which we can still hear bangin on the decks today. Tracks such as Tiesto's vaunted "Urban Train", Delerium's "Innocente (Tiesto Mix)" and BT's "Dreaming" round out this collection of popular anthems. The mixing, while not top-notch, certainly adds to the pleasantness of this album.

Props to BPM and Moonshine for bringing this together. Any tyro to trance and even some tranceaddicts will want to look into investing in this cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars this cd is awesome
Well, as a lover of trance, I would have to say that this cd rocks!! If you like this cd and have some money to spend I would HIGHLY recommend buying DecaDance's "Trance Anthems" cd...or at least listen to them...

3-0 out of 5 stars Reciew from The DJ Sect
After reviewing this recordign we here at the dj sect will give this three stars. we here feel that the transitions betwen songs is good but could be better, also their is the length of some songs (they could be shorter, more intence)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout music
Evidently I have really been out of the music buying world for many, many years because until I bought this cd, I had NEVER heard the term "trance music".

But, I have been doing aerobic dancing at home just to give me a work-out so that I can lose a couple of pounds and be healthy
This CD keeps me moving for 40 minutes - and I bet you young'uns could dance thru the entire thing. I just LOVE it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best...The Absolute Best!
This is the cd that you'll put in and won't take out, you'll crave to hear it, it's that swweeet! All of the tracks are mixed together brilliantly for continuous play and the energy never stops...it just has to be heard to be believed! You'll love the cd from beginning to end. BT's Dreaming at the end is heartwrenchingly beautiful, powerful, yet so delicate and quite magical. BUY IT, YOU CAN THANK ME LATER :D ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is called Trance
This is a great trance album. Granted, it's not the best out there. And it's very general trance. But I think the previous reviewers must have been expecting something else. A LOT of trance is somewhat repitious - thus inducing a trance-like state. I have heard trance attempts that got TOO repititious, and this is not it. There are a few songs here that could have been better, but none of them are bad. If you just want break beats and drum & bass, go check out Digital Empire: DJ Girl. Plenty of that there. If you want good general trance, get this album. If you want GREAT goa trance, check out Hallucinogen (Shpongle) and Pleiadians.

2-0 out of 5 stars Blander than a lettuce sandwich
I can't say anything particularly good about this CD. Robert Miles' Children is good, as always, but I sure as hell wouldn't buy this CD just for that song. This CD is lots of endless beats with a serious lack of climax. Booooring!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Wheres the hype?
Theres only one description for this CD..."boring" The only time I felt the music in this CD was when I finally heard the song "Children." The rest of the time I was waiting for a climax or something that stands out from the continuous repeating beats and tunes. This is definitly a CD that you will not get into. It was very plain and lacked originality.

2-0 out of 5 stars Such a shameful compilation
I just purchased this compilation and seriously am going to return it. Don't waste your money for this CD, rather spend it on the Drum&Bass CD, or either of the first two in the DE series

3-0 out of 5 stars A few diamonds in a lot of rough
This compilation includes some really good tracks hidden between many mediocre ones. Highlights include a nicely shortened version of Robert Miles' "Children" (#6), the very trance-y "Cosmic" (#7), and the high-energy "Silent Wishes" (#10). The other tracks are disappointing, especially since many of them don't even sound vaguely like trance music. Track 1, for example, sounds like a theme song for some low-budget spy movie, and track 11 is a lame attempt at drums-and-bass. Overall I suppose it's worth the purchase for the good tracks, but be warned you'll only ever want to listen to four or five tracks on this whole CD. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD
The CD is excellent. I also recommend the followup effort. I prefer listening to a CD before making the purchase. Both CD's in this series have been featured. The music is jazzy, dreamy, and rhythmic. Both are well worth a listen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Chill Out I've Heard
This CD reminds me of the Café Del Mar series of sounds I alsoenjoy. ... I really like the "Puesta Del Sol" track andalso "Kristall," that one has a sexy beat to it like in thefilms.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jolly Good
This is really a splendid collection. I've had it on heavyrotation in the car for over three months - the only set with comparable longeivity is Kruder & Dorfmeisters DJ Kicks. Similar to that, the production here is *great* - bass tweaked right up. Some of the tunes are quite delightful. The second CD is a little too relaxed, but hey, it is the big chill.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
It has a nice selection of tracks on it but I think there was to much emphasis on the bigger names like Mody, Orbital and others on this CD.In this sense you get more of a mainstream feel to the CD and in a sense that's what Earth Dance was.If your looking for more of a underground or dance feel to a CD this one probably won't be the one for you.
