Firstly if your considering buying this, It's strongly recommended that you track down the limited 3 Disk edition (which is the version that's been reviewed here). As it adds a superb 3rd disk of remixes, that are worthy of a standalone release by itself. (although bear in mind, that this is also much harder to come by, but more than worth the effort). The album is broken down into 3 distinct regions....Disk 1(Logical progression) which along with Mc Conrad's chosen tracks, largely features Conrads vocals on the majority of tracks, and picks out a plethora of sophisticated intelligent Drum'n'Bass tracks, that centre around Conrad's commanding vocal.....the highlights include: "Halcyon Voyage / Logical / Malik", and for such a accomplished tracklisting it would be hard to pick a standout, but if pushed I'd have to pick "Futures Call", it's the magnificent vocal breakdown with a slight Rhythm & blues feel, that's is as stylish as it is refined. Heavy emphasis on keyboard earmarks this track, along with production that is both confident and exemplary, and based on this evidence Conrad has produced a disk truly worthy of the 'logical progression' brand. Disk 2 (studio Exclusives) seems to be pitched as more of a rarities disk, with either material that is exclusive to this album or more likely tracks that also featured on a handful of releases, and are not as widely known, and feel a little more experimental with the sound, and possibly tracks that seem ideally suited to Bukem's own "Earth" series (which compiles various artists, with various musical fusions of Drum'n'Bass/Breakbeat). Not that this disk is any less worthy, and although it is an instrumental disk, such is the proficiency of material here (Big Bud - Indian Summer / Makato's- - Take my Soul Baby / Future Engineers - Merge / Nookie's - Solstice), that the material here arguably stands up as well as the first disk. In fact it could be argued that people that like a little more experimentation in their music may consider this the superior disk. The Final disk (Disk 3), is solely devoted to remixes, and so some of this will & won't be familiar to listeners. What everyone will agree on is that this is one mere filler remix disk bolted on to the album, in an effort to charge more, as Makoto's remix of "Future's Call" is arguably superior to the original, and more diligently arranged. Rantoul's interpretation of "Strategies & Plans" deserves a mention of its instrumental bliss, and is as much downtempo electronica, as it is intelligent D'N'B, the warm keyboards evoke memories of prime era 'Stevie wonder', and remain strangely hypnotic. And with further excellent remixes by "PFM / Big Bud / PHD / Blame....etc", Conrad by keeping a tight control on the quality his maintained an exceptionally high standard of quality throughout this disk (in fact this is applicable to all of the disks). This edition of the "Logical Progression" is probably (after the original Bukem effort) the finest in the Logical progression series, sure....Bukem's effort is still the defining moment in the series, but to detract from this albums sheer brilliance would be unfair. For an album that spreads 27 tracks across 3 Cd's, you'd be forgiven for thinking that there'd be a lot of filler mixed in amongst this. And fortunately you'd be wrong, not only has Conrad complied an album to rank amongst the best in the series, but he's also devised one of the strongest triple albums seen in many years........essential to anyone with a passing interest in this form of music.
I don't mind MC Conrad but usually prefer a set without him. But I was amazed at how much I liked CD 1. He actually only raps over 4 or five of the tracks, with others being instrumentals and a version of 'Logical' from PS5 with female vocals laid over it. Also the tracks he does do vocals on are a cut above his older stuff (though you do still hear some of the same old lines like the bit about spaghetti..) Over all the tracks are fairly mellow, sort of similar to some of Big Buds recent stuff. CD 2 has some great tracks as well. Especially 'Merge' by Future Engineers. It was this track that convinced me to buy the CD and it is well worth it. Admittedly I love everything the Future Engineers do, but this track is absolutely amazing.. Also the version I picked up is actually a Limited 3CD set where the third CD is all remixes of the tracks of CD1 by various Good Looking folks (i.e. Blame, Nookie, Big Bud, etc.). So if you can find that I'd recomend it over the 2CD set since in this case it was the same price..

Amazon.com Roni Size and DJ Die put in an appearance with a track that displays the kind of dynamics that make the music exciting and unpredictable. The all-important percussive elements within drum & bass are taken even further as the tune "Stepper" slides seamlessly into place and shows what good programming is all about. --Paul Clark Reviews (3)

Regarding D&B household name Goldie with mild dislike, being able to name few other artists, and having heard of none on this album, I'm surprised and pleased not be able to dismiss D&B as a one-horse electronic subgenre. I did so before, having heard little more than the club nonsense, to which the title D&B does justice. These, however, add a wealth of instruments and even utilize vocals effectively (minimally), which is apparently very difficult. The first, third, and eleventh tracks are my favorites, largely fitting a pattern of waiting a moment before adding the drums or the bass. These kinds of tweaks are needed to spice up rhythms which, like the wall-thumping beat of most other electronica, are very similar. Almost enough to make me seek full-lengths by these artists.

That's it, it's a god-like track from an artist who never got the credit he deserves for what he accomplished in the scene. T-Power (aka Marc Royal aka Bass Selective aka Atomic Dog aka Potential BadBoy (?)) is the first Jungle artist who really created the best sound for a completely new genre. Light years ahead of any Jungle/Drum & Bass sound out there now (yes, better than any of those quote "big names" that are even on this album), if you don't know the name T-Power and you listen to this music, be ashamed, be VERY ashamed, and then go buy his sound. Don't even call yourself a Jungalist or a D&B fan if you don't have anything by Marc Royal.

It's got some of the hard stuff if you're into that (Illform's "Combustion Chamber" and Hanna's "Plague"), but has some more accessible stuff (the live band Droid's "Adrenatone" and Magnetic's "Attrition"). With 2 tracks each from 5 very strong artists, the CD really can't go wrong. If you're into d'n'bass at ALL, you should get it. Has more flavor than the average compilation we've been seeing of late, and at this price (brand new!), you really, really can't go wrong. Fans have been spending 3 times that amount on similar items, only to find out it has half the solid tracks that Shadow's put on this disc.

Album Description Reviews (6)
Import 45’s from England were a hot commodity for those who could afford them. Those who did, held onto them as if they were priceless jewels. It was the time just before the AIDS crisis dominated the fears and sorrowful losses of the nation and around the time of the conflict with the Shah of Iran. This was the birth of the New Wave era, and a new band with an import 45 called “I Ran” with its cartoon-like paper cover, popped up in small circles as a perfect pun for the political upheaval at the time. A Flock of Seagulls heralded this birth along with other legendary bands such as Squeeze, The Split Enz, The Go-Go’s, and The B-52’s to name a few. Before that, artists such as Kim Carnes, Billy Joel, Blondie, Olivia Newton-John and even Hall and Oates, toyed with this new sound, but no major artist actually came to the forefront as the leader of the new movement. A Flock of Seagulls, a band with the odd name and the gravity defying hairstyles ushered in the marriage of music, technology and space travel ideation while other bands were singing about love and loss yet again, only with a new wave musical cloak. Labels such as Jive, IRS and Virgin began to dominate the market upon this explosion, usurping Casablanca and Prelude’s 10 year reign as top selling labels during their disco years. The market was ripe for change and the media moguls jumped on the next trend like a hot potato, pushing out bands to coincide with the heavy MTV video rotation that was to follow, causing sales to skyrocket like never before. A Flock of Seagulls somehow had a sense of where we were going as a society and it was reflected in their many songs. Keep in mind that the band arrival in 1982 was long before cable TV was in every home, microwave ovens were just becoming popular, cell phones were non-existent and the CD was still 2 years away from being born. A Flock of Seagulls, however, remained a survivor in the changing climate and continues to tour right up to the present day. Band creator and lead vocalist Mike Score has changed the line up a few times over the past 18 years, however new and old fans alike can immediately recognize the trademark guitar licks that became their sound. The band derived it’s name from the story “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” by Richard Bach, an adult inspirational fable about a Seagull that went against the tide to fly higher and achieve new heights. Like their namesake, A.F.O.S. saw the ugly underbelly of the music industry, but undaunted, persevered and kept abreast with the changing format for delivering music to the audiences. In addition to touring, the bands music can be heard on the internet and some of their former albums or compilations thereof have been pressed into CD and DAM CD format. It is only fitting then that Cleopatra Records released a remix of A Flock of Seagulls greatest hits, combining yet again the visions of tomorrow with the musical visionaries today. On this release, some of the underground’s hottest artists forge club friendly industrial beats to classic songs. The songs are stripped of their original sound and given a more mechanized space age effect that is right up to the minute. It reflects the growing tide towards personal mechanization and the reliance upon machinery in the modern age which often causes mankind to wander the world on a lonely endless flight to some uncharted shore. Some purists who are familiar with the original work may balk at this updating, however, this CD has introduced one of the 80’s greatest bands to a generation who weren’t even born at the height of the Seagull’s career. This landmark work has in essence helped to fuel a new generation desiring the music from our not too distant past, breathing new life into other bands who disappeared before their time, once again placing this band as a trail blazer on the musical frontier. It is by no accident that the largest percentage of fans are coming from the gothic and industrial underground. This scene has often been at the cutting edge of introspective art in a world that is dark and alienating, not unlike some of the Seagulls lyrics. 80’s nights are becoming more popular around the globe with the club kids intrigued with the correlation between the music of the era and the goth hybrid that developed right afterward. Whether one is an old fan or new, this remix project is recommended for its timeliness and great dance beats. It remains and additional testament for a band who reflects its namesake, ever striving for a higher ground and flying above the others, undaunted by obstacles and changing climates.
