5-0 out of 5 stars SUPER RARE DISCO, Vol. 1 & 2
One of the best collections of 1970's hustle music. As a former New Yorker, I still own hundreds of hustle 45's and 12-inch dance records from the 70's and wanted to get the same songs on CDs. This collection of 40 hard-to-find disco songs (on Volume 1 & 2) is great. I liked Volume 2 slightly better than Volume 1, but both are excellent. Even the liner notes are incredibly well-written by a New Yorker who really appreciates classic disco music and who lived through the NY dance club scene in the 70's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Collection!
If you are a disco fan that has "The Disco Box" and/or "The Disco Years, Vol. 1-7" and are looking for something different, then look no further then this collection along with volume 1. It's a great supplement with the well-known mainstream artists. The packaging is superb: entertaining liner notes along with song credits and chart positions. Highly recommended along with volume 1.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great "Obscure" Disco
I am very happy with this compilation. To me this is better than the commercial compilations that have the overplayed (but still great) classic disco songs. I'm always looking for something that would take me back to the songs that were a hit at the time, but somehow fade slightly from the mainstream as time goes on.
"Mainline" comes to mind. You won't find that on every classic disco compilation. That's what makes it great.
"Ten Percent" - the first commercial 12" record. GREAT!
I am a DJ, but purchased this CD more for listening. But it is great to take to the club and spin a few times for the party goers.
I also appreciate the fact that there are 20 songs on this CD. Making for a large compilation compared to some other CD's that offer only 12 or 13 tracks.
If you are a disco fan, I recommend this CD to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars ...
This is an excellent compilation! Trust me, there are tunes on here that you won't remember until you play them and they'll bring back the memories! I had been looking for Down to Love Town for years before finding this. There is some great arranging and playing on these songs-not your typical fare. I would also recommend Volume 1 if you don't have it already.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice to have
This is the kind of record you dream about when you don't own it. It's a record of very good disco music, but then, it's not much more.

If you want to groove, have it for yourself. It's GOOOD disco music, indeed - nothing more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Supplement to the Disco Box
For those who have the Disco Box and/or have the Disco Years (vol. 1-7), this album and vol. 2 are both excellent additions. I'm surprised that there are not more than two volumes since there are so many rare tracks that are not even available on CD. My suggestions for other songs that I can't find and I'm sure other people would think of more songs.
Here are the ones I would like to see:
Peanut Vendor - The Rithchie Family
Tiger Baby - Silver Convention
I Love America - Patrick Juvet

Haven't Stopped Dancin' Yet - Gonzalez
Flip - Jesse Green
Think It Over - Cheryl Ladd
Don't Drop My Love - Anita Ward

5-0 out of 5 stars FLASHBACK CITY!!!
This is got to be the best CD ever! Out of 20 songs, 18 were some of my favorites back in the day. If your an ex-disco babe like me,(and now a suburban housewife) you'll be hussling in your living room with or without a partner! Gosh, some of these songs were out when I was still in highschool (yes, that long ago!) and this CD made me feel like it was just yesterday that I hussled the night away!

4-0 out of 5 stars Disco's roots.
This collection (and its Vol. 2 companion) present the early club hits of the discotheques -- before the word "Disco" had even entered the public consciousness. A great collection of underground disco, emphasizing its Motown and Philly Soul roots. Good stuff.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun Stuff
This music brought back great memories .. especially cut 17. Girls... it was never on the radio, but we danced all night to it at the clubs. Same with #5, 18 and 17.
Worth it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best efforts in the "Logical Progression" series
Mc Conrad finally gets to lend his considerable talents to part of the ongoing "Logical Progression" series, and seeing as he's been a mainstay from it's early beginnings, it seems only natural that he gets to compile an influential tracklisting of his chosen tracks.

Firstly if your considering buying this, It's strongly recommended that you track down the limited 3 Disk edition (which is the version that's been reviewed here). As it adds a superb 3rd disk of remixes, that are worthy of a standalone release by itself. (although bear in mind, that this is also much harder to come by, but more than worth the effort).

The album is broken down into 3 distinct regions....Disk 1(Logical progression) which along with Mc Conrad's chosen tracks, largely features Conrads vocals on the majority of tracks, and picks out a plethora of sophisticated intelligent Drum'n'Bass tracks, that centre around Conrad's commanding vocal.....the highlights include: "Halcyon Voyage / Logical / Malik", and for such a accomplished tracklisting it would be hard to pick a standout, but if pushed I'd have to pick "Futures Call", it's the magnificent vocal breakdown with a slight Rhythm & blues feel, that's is as stylish as it is refined. Heavy emphasis on keyboard earmarks this track, along with production that is both confident and exemplary, and based on this evidence Conrad has produced a disk truly worthy of the 'logical progression' brand.

Disk 2 (studio Exclusives) seems to be pitched as more of a rarities disk, with either material that is exclusive to this album or more likely tracks that also featured on a handful of releases, and are not as widely known, and feel a little more experimental with the sound, and possibly tracks that seem ideally suited to Bukem's own "Earth" series (which compiles various artists, with various musical fusions of Drum'n'Bass/Breakbeat). Not that this disk is any less worthy, and although it is an instrumental disk, such is the proficiency of material here (Big Bud - Indian Summer / Makato's- - Take my Soul Baby / Future Engineers - Merge / Nookie's - Solstice), that the material here arguably stands up as well as the first disk. In fact it could be argued that people that like a little more experimentation in their music may consider this the superior disk.

The Final disk (Disk 3), is solely devoted to remixes, and so some of this will & won't be familiar to listeners. What everyone will agree on is that this is one mere filler remix disk bolted on to the album, in an effort to charge more, as Makoto's remix of "Future's Call" is arguably superior to the original, and more diligently arranged. Rantoul's interpretation of "Strategies & Plans" deserves a mention of its instrumental bliss, and is as much downtempo electronica, as it is intelligent D'N'B, the warm keyboards evoke memories of prime era 'Stevie wonder', and remain strangely hypnotic. And with further excellent remixes by "PFM / Big Bud / PHD / Blame....etc", Conrad by keeping a tight control on the quality his maintained an exceptionally high standard of quality throughout this disk (in fact this is applicable to all of the disks).

This edition of the "Logical Progression" is probably (after the original Bukem effort) the finest in the Logical progression series, sure....Bukem's effort is still the defining moment in the series, but to detract from this albums sheer brilliance would be unfair. For an album that spreads 27 tracks across 3 Cd's, you'd be forgiven for thinking that there'd be a lot of filler mixed in amongst this. And fortunately you'd be wrong, not only has Conrad complied an album to rank amongst the best in the series, but he's also devised one of the strongest triple albums seen in many years........essential to anyone with a passing interest in this form of music.

5-0 out of 5 stars This may be even more bigger than the first LogProg !
The MCd CD is such a compilation of very different kinds of music that expands your mind to its extremities. What these guys offer is revolutionary. Very recommended to all the open-minded listeners. Be careful !!! Its rather a strong experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good set from Good Looking
So I was initially a little hesistant to get LP4 since it is presented by MC Conrad and in fact CD1 is all tracks by him and his band.

I don't mind MC Conrad but usually prefer a set without him. But I was amazed at how much I liked CD 1. He actually only raps over 4 or five of the tracks, with others being instrumentals and a version of 'Logical' from PS5 with female vocals laid over it. Also the tracks he does do vocals on are a cut above his older stuff (though you do still hear some of the same old lines like the bit about spaghetti..) Over all the tracks are fairly mellow, sort of similar to some of Big Buds recent stuff.

CD 2 has some great tracks as well. Especially 'Merge' by Future Engineers. It was this track that convinced me to buy the CD and it is well worth it. Admittedly I love everything the Future Engineers do, but this track is absolutely amazing..

Also the version I picked up is actually a Limited 3CD set where the third CD is all remixes of the tracks of CD1 by various Good Looking folks (i.e. Blame, Nookie, Big Bud, etc.). So if you can find that I'd recomend it over the 2CD set since in this case it was the same price..

5-0 out of 5 stars CLASSIC D&B FOR REAL HEADS
LTJ Bukem and the Good Looking camp do it again, opening hearts to the magic of Drum & Bass. Definitley pick up this release! I am lucky enought to have it on vinyl to DJ at clubs. I LOVE D&B!!

1-0 out of 5 stars jack
very disappointed with the cd. Does not live up to the hype...sorry...but not as sorry as I am now that I am stuck with a cd and won't play it anymore...oh well ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Drum and Bass for Dummies.
For the average consumer, picking the right drum-and-bass compilation is as risk-free as a game of Russian Roulette. Among the CDs that keep crowding record store bins, there are the quality sets and their shoddily-assembled imitators. But for those who want to introduce themselves to the genre should consider "Bass in Your Face," which features remixes of tracks from artists familiar to the average Joe Schmo. Nervous beats and a memorable bassline revamp Missy Elliott's "The Rain," while rubbery bass glides through Busta Rhymes' radically transformed "Dangerous." En Vogue get the drum-and-bass makeover on the Babyface-penned "Whatever," and the disc's best moment is Armand Van Helden's dynamic re-working of Aaliyah's "One in a Million." Those already familiar to the genre may stick with other releases for advanced students in the drum-and-bass school, but this disc is a worthy consideration for those looking for a good introduction that doesn't have that cheesy "Totally Dance" aftertaste.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is definitely D & B..
Actually Mickey Finn, Aphrodite, Dillinja, Natural Born Chillers, Lemon D, Dream Team (Bizzy B & Pugwash), Breakbeat Science, and 4 Hero are all Drum & Bass artists, so this easily and most definitely qualifies as a D & B CD. Some of the tracks are excellent, such as The Rain and Me or the Papas..

4-0 out of 5 stars This is Bass, not Drum & Bass
This is a great CD filled with Bass for your subwoofers in your car, but it is not Drum & Bass. It has lots of really great remixes which I love. Lots of drop beats, and low lows for chest shaking sounds... but no Jungle style Drum & Bass. Buy this one for your car if you've got subs in the trunk!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Cool CD especially those with varied taste
I am a huge drum & bass fan. And most everything else for that matter. I think the cd is awesome, and is a superb blend of 2 cool genres. For those who think that rap and techno can not blend should hear stuff by propperheads, archive, and roni size just so they can know how wrong they are. Dilinja's remix of me or the papes is incredible

3-0 out of 5 stars saving grace
all right, i'll agree with DMBassfan305 as to the fact that the two genres of bass and hip hop are different from each other in a very definite way, but jeru the damaja's "me or the papes" (dillinja remix) is an incredible song in a strange sense, and so redeems the album somewhat. as a drum n bass fan, though, i have to say that the mix presented here should be kept seperate. this is one of those "could be better, could be worse" kinda things. ... While Goldie is not the best DJ in the world, he is a decent "selecta," as the Jamaicans might say. For INCredible Sound of Drum & Bass the notorious head of the Metalheadz label reaches back into jungle's catalog, pulling out the classics--ironically, only four or five years old--and combining them with newer tunes. Tracks such as Doc Scott's "Here Come the Drums" and "Warning" by Codename John (a.k.a. Grooverider) are essential for any jungle aficionado, and both appear here. Careful not to neglect the new stuff, the man with the mouth full of gold teeth does not pick the trendy big-blazers, but rather more sophisticated, fine-tuned, streamlined records that work well with the airy atmospherics of the older singles. Johnny L's techno-stabber "See Red" mixes with Doc Scott's "Unofficial Ghost," while producers like Matrix and Fresh and Vegas make appearances, side by side with Source Direct and Shy FX. This is not a mind-blowing affair, but it is--as the U.K. jocks say--proper. --Tricia Romano ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars INCredible!
Brilliant stuff! Goldie is just truly excellent at mixing stuff by other artists, even though he hasn't been releasing anything outstanding in a while! Disc 2 is probably more listener friendly, but Disc 1 is definitely at par with the former. They are both equally magnificient! This album will definitely stay in your stereo for a long time.I bought it last year, and I still love listening to it,frequently! Buy this album and do yourself a big favour,it definitely lives up to its name!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally...Something perfect from Goldie
And who says Drum'n'Bass is Dead....On this 2 CD is take Goldie the best Drum'n'Bass music from 93-99 and mixid in "Incredible" good. Some tracks are mixed so well together that we will hear something fandtastik and notthing like the original song.

CD 1 is something for the "Hard Heads". It starst fast with Doc Scott then it will slowe down from Alex Reece to Roni Size,DJ Die then Doc Scott to Codename John eill fast it up to Ram Trilogy to the end were Souljah will end this disc with "stæl! "(Icelandig Word) :) CD 2 is like CD 1 but starts fast and then slows down.

This cd is the only Drum'n'Bass cd that is a "life" in my Drum'n'Bass collectson(it's wery big)

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT INcredible
If you look at the picture on the album cover, you can see how Goldie feels about how this mix turned out. Or maybe he's hitting the breaking point from listening to hours of this monotonous music. I was duped into buying this one because I saw some names that I really like: Jonny L, London Elektricity, and J Majik. And really those are the best tracks. Sure, this is "old school" d'n'b, so "hells yea, d'n'b headz!" "rinsed out, dude!". Who gives a crap? These tracks are so repetetive, and on top of that, its very poorly produced. And there are very few beats that could stand alone. It confuses me how seemingly a lot of people go nuts over this stuff. But I guess its the same thing as how so many people love country music. I would highly recommend PASSING on this mix.

3-0 out of 5 stars old school
How the second reveiwer describes it as overmixed is a good dexcription. The first track starts off good then it slows down on track 2 and songs start to feal off in the mixing. There are a few good songs just not every one is real tech. The second CD is old school DnB its not for people that like it fast. Dont get me wrong the CD is good just not one of the best. It took me afew times through to start liking it.

4-0 out of 5 stars dNb you gotta hear and fear
Fast and ill drum sets with injected basslines make this Goldie mix a must have. If your down with the future of music pick this up and make sure you have a decent sound system. Even though some trax are much better than others all together this cd will put a smile on your face. ... Read more

If you've ever wondered what drum & bass is all about, this compilation will make your day. Twelve excellent examples of the kind of music that has been making dance clubbers sweat for more than seven years will soon give you a big clue as to why it's one of the most popular electronic musical styles the world over.

Roni Size and DJ Die put in an appearance with a track that displays the kind of dynamics that make the music exciting and unpredictable. The all-important percussive elements within drum & bass are taken even further as the tune "Stepper" slides seamlessly into place and shows what good programming is all about. --Paul Clark ... 5-0 out of 5 stars firestorm basslines
I come from a roots dub, junglist rude boy perspective...that is the vibe I love...so this tech steppin hardcore cd was a slightly new sound for me,not so much of the dj Hype/Suburban Base/Dillinja valve sound rude boy hard step, but man,I love these firestorm basslines...Ther'es (dare I say it without sounding pretentious) even a spiritual vibe to the music, lacking in the Junglist hardstep side of things...Buy this before it deletes...This one drops heavy, scorching basslines and aggressive drum patterns...nice indeed, and no cliches on this one, which is not always true in the drum and bass scene...

5-0 out of 5 stars Art Core
Free form social engineering is what it is. Brilliant stuff, every single track.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb
this CD flows from beginning to end like one big song. it's an unusual combination of music that makes you feel relaxed and upbeat at the same time. this can only be explained by the rapid-fire beats and soothing rythms that go with it. it's made in 1996, but it doesn't matter, this is timeless. i don't listen to much drum n' bass, but this CD is so good you don't need to be a seasoned listner to appreciate it. for some reason the CD i have has 18 tracks, the one showed here has 11, not sure why this is. rock on

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitive, well-rounded, and elusive.
No one will ever find or buy this album because a)it is a v/a compilation, b)it has no (really) big names, c)it is "old", and d)not only is it far from pop...it's a genre that has fallen out of favor with the hipsters. That's a crying shame, as this is indeed a near-classic that holds its own against the whole of electronica.

Regarding D&B household name Goldie with mild dislike, being able to name few other artists, and having heard of none on this album, I'm surprised and pleased not be able to dismiss D&B as a one-horse electronic subgenre. I did so before, having heard little more than the club nonsense, to which the title D&B does justice. These, however, add a wealth of instruments and even utilize vocals effectively (minimally), which is apparently very difficult. The first, third, and eleventh tracks are my favorites, largely fitting a pattern of waiting a moment before adding the drums or the bass. These kinds of tweaks are needed to spice up rhythms which, like the wall-thumping beat of most other electronica, are very similar. Almost enough to make me seek full-lengths by these artists.

5-0 out of 5 stars i lOve this cd :)
i heard this cd playing earlier today at retro viva...it was soOoOooO dope so i had to ask one of the workers what cd it was they were playing :). the samplez dont give you enough to consume seriously...just buy this cd and let it go into your soul :). Its dope...its pretty funky/groovey/chill/with a dash of darkness on the side (darkness in a few songz). it can totaly make you wanna get your groove on on the dance floore...but then again you can just chill to it and let it take over your mind body and soul. anyway... i love this cd :).

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute classic of this genre. Smashing!
I was turned onto the original artcore comp. by seminal Colorado DJ John Chamie, along with other phat sounds in DnB back in 93/94 or so. The original was a groundbreaker to some of us in the US scene (i have been doing big parties since '90 and have caught almost every big touring act in Drum 'n ' Bass live and direct..) No. 2 in the series takes us someplace a little darker than No. 1. It is an intimation that this music is serious, it is relevant, it is now. The beats make your mind move seamlessly at low volume, but are versatile enough to jam out at high volume. For the newcomer to our scene, pick an artist you dig and follow that back to the source album/EP. Then repeat as necessary to really let the music into your mind. This album is rewarding and fairly accessible to the uninitiated. I highly recommend it, especially if you like jazzy stuff bordering on dark. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars a surprising cd from a mainstream label
i bought this cd at the mall after i noticed a few of the names on it. i was suprised to see the likes of origin unknown and ed rush & optical. it's not the best jungle compalation out there but it is still good. i would recomend it to anyone just getting into drum&bass as a starter to here a few good names. over all the cd has some very good tracks. it is on a heavy rotation on my cd listening list. buy and enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as this CD is, the only track that TRULY.......
...matters is the T-Power - Amber (Shy FX Extended Remix).

That's it, it's a god-like track from an artist who never got the credit he deserves for what he accomplished in the scene.

T-Power (aka Marc Royal aka Bass Selective aka Atomic Dog aka Potential BadBoy (?)) is the first Jungle artist who really created the best sound for a completely new genre. Light years ahead of any Jungle/Drum & Bass sound out there now (yes, better than any of those quote "big names" that are even on this album), if you don't know the name T-Power and you listen to this music, be ashamed, be VERY ashamed, and then go buy his sound.

Don't even call yourself a Jungalist or a D&B fan if you don't have anything by Marc Royal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Drum'n'Bass Tracks... (em português)
This CD simply will get you out of the floor... A really great compilation of drum'n'bass sound, buy'it... The only thing is that is only 1 CD, I think that Digital Empire next time brand a new 2 CD Album...

4-0 out of 5 stars Definately worth buying
This CD is a great combination of electronic drum and bass sequences and hip hop vibes. It's a great CD to relax to and to just be wowed by the skillz of these DJs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Drum N Bass
This is a great commercial drum n bass compilation. As usual, DJ Trance delivers a kickin' beat that will keep you going. We even get a bit of the raver theme with DJ Hype's "Peace, Love & Unity." All in all, very good collection. I'd recommend it! ... Read more

By 1996, when this DJ DB-mixed compilation came out, drum & bass was in transition. L.T.J. Bukem and his crowd had smoothed jungle out to something mellow and oceanic; Grooverider and the crew at the No U-Turn label were turning it into something harsher and more martial. DB's first great achievement on this record is to represent the mellow style of drum & bass (as well as ragga and jump-up flavors) while still hinting at where the music was going. Alex Reece's loping "Pulp Fiction" is here, as is Bukem's woozy "Horizons." But so is Rufige Kru's (a.k.a. Goldie) proto-techstep "Fury" and Renegade's self-explanatory "The Terrorist." DB's second great achievement is to make these opposites attract, somehow turning this into a narrative rather than a jumble. Pretty soon after, jungle dance floors went their separate ways, and no one had to take this kind of risk again. --Jeff Salamon ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best CD ever
When I first heard this cd in early spring of '99, I was just entering into the rave scene, from that day forward I knew that drum & bass was for me! This CD is the best ever put together, the power and feeling behind it are absolutely incredible. It's one of those CDs that you can listen to from beginning to end and be completely satisfied. As a matter of fact, I recommend that the listener does listen to it from beginning to end, if not then the whole feeling behind the cd is almost lost. Finally, just buy the damn cd. Trust me it's well worth the money and effort.

Grooverider was never with No-Uturn, that's Nico's label. See: Trace, Nico, Fierce,Ed Rush. Grooverider's label is Protoype.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Classic in DnB
This was and still is the best example of the diversity within the Jungle scene. It has the best mix of everything that anyone could want. It has the unique ability to make you dance and/or calm you down... whichever you need at the moment... I have to say that this is a MUST BUY for anyone interested in the roots of Jungle...

5-0 out of 5 stars In your body
For anyone out there who's perhaps not familiar with language used by the Baltimore reviewer, i.e. not familiar with this kind of music...and just looking around for some new music....you must start here. I have journeyed through the drum-n-bass/jungle/whatever category you want to call it....and this CD has so much to offer. It's the kind of music that gets in your body and fills you up, you must get out of your chair, you must move around the room. Sexy, groovin, and it's definitely about a more visceral connection to sound and musical composition. This is the greatest background music for when I'm working in the studio, cooking, or just hanging out with my husband. It loosens you up, and makes you feel excellent. By the time you reach the end of the disc, you have truly taken a journey. Grows on you and grows on you.....

4-0 out of 5 stars it's hard
i bought this one a couple days ago and it's blowin my mind out. my first experience with the shadow label was the 'hed sessions' disc. i bought it on a whim cuz it looked like the first dj had done a remix of 'super bon bon' by soul coughing. (it wasn't) but the cd is awesome nonetheless. and the hard sessions disc is better. my best description would have to be that this is smart drum and bass. i bought mine from Blockbuster and it was only 9 bux which is the best deal i've gotten in a long while cuz it's worth at least twice that. my advice if you buy it is to have kick butt stereo system to listen to it on. you definately want to be able to pick up the ultra high stuff and the real low end stuff. light some candles, turn on your red light and groove to this. i can't quite give it five stars yet, it's gotta earn that fifth one and that takes time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Average CD
Not a bad CD but it's cheap price was indicative of what you got, in other words ... you do get what you pay for.

4-0 out of 5 stars tripping into darkness
This was one of my bargan purchases I bought this for the price, previously having no exposeur to the Shadow label. However I have heard of this CD, so I bought it. Well first of all it is a very good CD. The quality is very high and the music itself is very very good. It all has a very dark and hard feal to it. Which I really enjoy, this album brings me back to my early days when I was into underground Detroit Techno. I'm not quite sure why but it brings me back to that but it sure as hell does. The album is great for driving around in the evening just as the sun dips below the horizon and the sky is a pale blue with the stars just barely visible. Now thats what Shadow is all about

4-0 out of 5 stars Strong, dark and just the right price
For solid, current drum'n'bass flavors from a label that's been giving it to us for years at a quality level, this little 10-tracker is a steal for the price they're selling it at. You can find it in a lot of local stores as well (even non-music stores), so there's no excuse not to try it.

It's got some of the hard stuff if you're into that (Illform's "Combustion Chamber" and Hanna's "Plague"), but has some more accessible stuff (the live band Droid's "Adrenatone" and Magnetic's "Attrition"). With 2 tracks each from 5 very strong artists, the CD really can't go wrong. If you're into d'n'bass at ALL, you should get it. Has more flavor than the average compilation we've been seeing of late, and at this price (brand new!), you really, really can't go wrong. Fans have been spending 3 times that amount on similar items, only to find out it has half the solid tracks that Shadow's put on this disc.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Freshest Drum&Bass CD In Years
I have bought many Drum&Bass compilations in the last four years, none of them have been as fresh & exciting as Shadow: Hard Sessions. Hanna's 'Plagues', Magnetic's 'So Dark Now', Illform's 'Voices from Cellar X', & Droids 'Adrenalene' are my favorites, yet I still love the whole CD overall. You can definitely play the CD from beginning to end without stopping. Look out for Droid, Illform, Hanna, & Magnetic CD's. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't be disappointed like me!....
I purchased this CD thinking it was the original vocals. WRONG! The music has been redone by another artist and I purchased this CD thinking I was getting the original music by the artist. Boy was I taken. No where on the CD cover does it mention the mixes were not originally by the Flock of Seagulls. Very disappointed and a waste of money. I still have not found what I am looking for!

1-0 out of 5 stars AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
This is a serious contender for the worst remix album ever released. At least the equally poor OMD remixes had the Moby reworking of 'Souvenir' as a saving grace, (and the original vocals)! Every track here is an insult to the original, and to the art of remixing itself. Think of that vocal/lyric/synth hook you loved so much from the original track. Well, its long gone now. If you're that desperate to hear the songs that you've loved being mutilated or sacrificed, rent 'The Wedding Singer' - at least there'd be a few laughs in store...

5-0 out of 5 stars Homage to the past as one moves forward.
The early 80’s was a time when disco was on it’s last breath and a new form of music was becoming stylish in the underground. It was a glamorized hybrid of dance music and punk rock which culminated in what became known as New Wave. MTV eventually sprang up and dominated the newly formed cable television airwaves, creating musical superstars overnight. It was a time of glam, glitter, angst and jubilation. We were guaranteed fun nights and high technology. It was the first time that Levi’s actually had the lowest sales ever on jeans simply because thrift stores sprang up and supplied the clothing needs of the multicolored hair generation. People creatively ripped, shredded or otherwise augmented styles of recycled clothing from a long dead past in order to recreate a fashionable trashy chic image on a super tight budget.

Import 45’s from England were a hot commodity for those who could afford them. Those who did, held onto them as if they were priceless jewels. It was the time just before the AIDS crisis dominated the fears and sorrowful losses of the nation and around the time of the conflict with the Shah of Iran. This was the birth of the New Wave era, and a new band with an import 45 called “I Ran” with its cartoon-like paper cover, popped up in small circles as a perfect pun for the political upheaval at the time.

A Flock of Seagulls heralded this birth along with other legendary bands such as Squeeze, The Split Enz, The Go-Go’s, and The B-52’s to name a few. Before that, artists such as Kim Carnes, Billy Joel, Blondie, Olivia Newton-John and even Hall and Oates, toyed with this new sound, but no major artist actually came to the forefront as the leader of the new movement. A Flock of Seagulls, a band with the odd name and the gravity defying hairstyles ushered in the marriage of music, technology and space travel ideation while other bands were singing about love and loss yet again, only with a new wave musical cloak. Labels such as Jive, IRS and Virgin began to dominate the market upon this explosion, usurping Casablanca and Prelude’s 10 year reign as top selling labels during their disco years. The market was ripe for change and the media moguls jumped on the next trend like a hot potato, pushing out bands to coincide with the heavy MTV video rotation that was to follow, causing sales to skyrocket like never before.

A Flock of Seagulls somehow had a sense of where we were going as a society and it was reflected in their many songs. Keep in mind that the band arrival in 1982 was long before cable TV was in every home, microwave ovens were just becoming popular, cell phones were non-existent and the CD was still 2 years away from being born.

As quickly as the era was ignited, the media moguls strong armed the next trend, forcing many bands to go bankrupt, disband and some to fade away to obscurity. The times were changing, people were dying, money was getting tighter and living conditions were high tech but with a new found sense of fear for human interaction due to the AIDS crisis that dominated the news. Rather than continue to feed the masses any music for hope, the labels ushered in harsher music to tap into the anger and alienation that was reaching rage like proportions.

A Flock of Seagulls, however, remained a survivor in the changing climate and continues to tour right up to the present day. Band creator and lead vocalist Mike Score has changed the line up a few times over the past 18 years, however new and old fans alike can immediately recognize the trademark guitar licks that became their sound.

The band derived it’s name from the story “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” by Richard Bach, an adult inspirational fable about a Seagull that went against the tide to fly higher and achieve new heights. Like their namesake, A.F.O.S. saw the ugly underbelly of the music industry, but undaunted, persevered and kept abreast with the changing format for delivering music to the audiences. In addition to touring, the bands music can be heard on the internet and some of their former albums or compilations thereof have been pressed into CD and DAM CD format.

It is only fitting then that Cleopatra Records released a remix of A Flock of Seagulls greatest hits, combining yet again the visions of tomorrow with the musical visionaries today. On this release, some of the underground’s hottest artists forge club friendly industrial beats to classic songs. The songs are stripped of their original sound and given a more mechanized space age effect that is right up to the minute. It reflects the growing tide towards personal mechanization and the reliance upon machinery in the modern age which often causes mankind to wander the world on a lonely endless flight to some uncharted shore. Some purists who are familiar with the original work may balk at this updating, however, this CD has introduced one of the 80’s greatest bands to a generation who weren’t even born at the height of the Seagull’s career. This landmark work has in essence helped to fuel a new generation desiring the music from our not too distant past, breathing new life into other bands who disappeared before their time, once again placing this band as a trail blazer on the musical frontier.

It is by no accident that the largest percentage of fans are coming from the gothic and industrial underground. This scene has often been at the cutting edge of introspective art in a world that is dark and alienating, not unlike some of the Seagulls lyrics. 80’s nights are becoming more popular around the globe with the club kids intrigued with the correlation between the music of the era and the goth hybrid that developed right afterward.

Whether one is an old fan or new, this remix project is recommended for its timeliness and great dance beats. It remains and additional testament for a band who reflects its namesake, ever striving for a higher ground and flying above the others, undaunted by obstacles and changing climates.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREATEST HITS Remixed
A new twist to already fantastic songs. For those Flock fans this is a new sound for some old songs. For someone who has never heard these songs before these remixes fit in with todays sounds easily. A good all around sound!

1-0 out of 5 stars Remixes of new--not original--material.
I work in a record shop, so when I read news a month ago that this was being released I immediately began to look forward to it. However, I was 100% let down before the first track was over because this album does not include remixes of the orginal recordings but remixes of newly recorded vocals by Mike Score. Nowhere on the packaging is this specified, so beware that that is what you are getting. If you must check this out yourself, I think you'll be disappointed with the difference between then and now. It definitely wasn't worth the money I paid for it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a fantastic collaboration of funk- based jungle music
This is jungle sky is a wonderfully intruiging title for a ground breaking, mezmerizing, not to mention irrisistably groove splitting album. The music is extremely progressive and pioneering, but the funky beats rival those of funk fore fathers such as James Brown, Stevie Wonder, or Earth Wind and Fire. Obviously, I reccoment this album to all. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A Slap in the Face of All True Bond Fans
If anyone wants to hear a real Bond remix, don't buy this. I've heard original Bond tunes (take in mind that the ones I'm talking about are more than 30 years old) that could blow these ...away.
Have you ever heard of ANY of the artists on this disc?
I thought not.

3-0 out of 5 stars IN A WORLD...
In a world where there is no law, only the rules of logic remain. This compilation of spiced up Bond tunes comes off more like the "Spice Girls." Techno pop never sounded so annoying. Look for the real thang baby. Elevator music for the whole family.

5-0 out of 5 stars OVERALL A VERY GOOD CD
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this cd. it definantly puts you in the dancing mood. This cd centers around the Connery- Moore years, and all of this songs are superbly updated by some very talented artists

3-0 out of 5 stars If you're a Bond fan, a great novelty
I think this is more of a CD for fans of Bond music than D-n-B afficionados. It's pretty par for the course as jungle goes, but it's a kick if you love the Bond tracks. Basically, if yer gonna have a spy/ Bond party, buy this, Mai Tai's "Secret Agent Sounds," Arnold's Bond Project, the 30th Anniversary Bond, a few Ultra-Lounge cd's, and you're set! ... Read more
