5-0 out of 5 stars SUPERB musical wallpaper
This is simply the best chill-out compilation disc I've heard. Tall Paul's "Precious Heart" is the highlight of the collection. The track re-works the old INXS song "Never Tear Us Apart" with absolutely astounding results. Alex Gopher's "The Child" uses Billie Holiday's "God Bless The Child" as a theme; although it feels a bit more forced than "Precious Heart," it's still fascinating. The rest of the disc is equally excellent -- definitely groovin', but also nicely ambient & laid-back. Perfect background music for your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Innovative
Heard this at a record store who had sold out of these. Couldn't wait to get it off of Amazon. Typically, I am not a huge fan of ambient/electronica but this is an exception.

The 4th track by Tall Paul entitled "Perfect Heart" is worth the purchase alone. The loops of INXS' "Never Tear Us Apart" with the sampling are divine to say the least. There are other mixes on it that have some 50's Mambo and Shirley Bassey-esque sounding tracks looped in as well as all sorts of various other types of music, incredibly unique.

This CD is perfect as background music. Try it..you'll like it!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT ALBUM!
After purchasing "Chilled Spirit" I was interested in other chill out albums. I was very pleased after purchasing "At home @ Sunset". It's a mix of soft relaxing music with the perfect mix of upbeat songs that give the album great diversity and keeps your interest. It's the perfect album to relax or do homework to. It's very trendy and fun to listen to. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best single collection of disco out there.
There's no other way to put it: this collection is a must for anyone who loves disco. The first six tracks are absolutely essential. French idol Sheila's Chic-produced hit "Spacer" is very hard to find, and is among the greatest of disco songs ever made. It has been sampled in Alcazar's 2001 hit "Crying At the Discotheque." Diana Ross' Chic-produced "I'm Coming Out" is another 1980 song that ranks in top disco essentials. "I Like Love" is classic Chic work--produced for former member Norma Jean. Change tracks are another bonus. Get this CD!

4-0 out of 5 stars lost in classics
i really liked the selections of songs but i was dissapointed with the length of the songs, there all the edited versions, for a compilation like this with hard to find songs they should put the long versions it bought back some good memories but again i felt a little empty with the short versions here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Club Classics
If you want a collection of radio hits, this disc will disappoint you, with a few exceptions. However, if you want a collection of cuts that the DEEJAYS played in the clubs, this is a great series. Yes many of these will be unfamiliar to you unless you were there, but I guarantee you they sound great with your amp cranked to '11' and 50 to 100 people all up on their feet dancing. If you missed that era and want to know what it was like I recommend this CD and some of the others in the series. This may not have been mixed by a deejay, but a deejay definitely provided the list.

4-0 out of 5 stars DISCO SIRENS
This is an excellent compilation of late 1970's dance music. Most of the tracks did make the sales charts, and some were huge hits, like Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" (a gorgeous blend of disco & guitar rock), Sister Sledge's "He's The Greatest Dancer" and "Lost In Music", and Chic's "Good Times. " The smaller hitettes include the tracks by Change, "I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross, "Spacer" by Sheila B and "I.O.U." by Freez. Sales charts aside, they were all huge on the dance charts and popular dancefloor fillers in the disco heyday - I remember Musique's sorta risqué "In The Bush" nestling atop the disco top 50 all those years ago. Some of these songs now sound better than then, like Norma Jean's excellent "High Society" and the gorgeous "I Like Love" with its tinkling bell sounds. This is a wonderful collection of female vocal disco that gave me hours of nostalgic pleasure in reliving a misspent youth!

4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good representation of 1989
I admit I love the '80s for all the cheesy music that came out of that decade. I loved everything from hair metal to some insipid pop music. There was a lot of good music that came out of the '80s (like Depeche Mode and Erasure) and then there was garbage (New Kids on the Block and Tiffany). I bought "Billboard Top Hits: 1989" primarily for the Martika song "Toy Soldier". "Toy Soldier" really helped defined the cheesiness of the '80s, along with Debbie Gibson's "Lost in Your Eyes" and Warrant's "Heaven". I was a big Debbie Gibson fan back in the '80s. She was the only teen pop artist that I liked, everyone else was just noise to my ears. Warrant was definitely not one of my favorite hair metal bands but I did love "Heaven". It is a beautiful and sappy ballad. I so loathe New Kids On the Block, especially "Hangin' Tough" but listening to the song on this compilation makes me laugh because it is so bad. I thought that Bad English's "When I See You Smile" ranked right up there on the cheese-o-meter with Journey's "Open Arms", vomit-inducing at best. I love "Eternal Flame", definitely one of my favorite ballads from The Bangles who I think helped personify the '80s with their catchy pop/rock music. Tears For Fears' "Sowing the Seeds of Love" was certainly not one of the band's best songs. It isn't awful but I didn't think it was anything as good as "Shout" or "Everybody Wants to Rule the World". I can't stand Donny Osmond. He is by far the worst artist on this compilation. He wasn't good in the '70s, he wasn't good in the '80s. I so loathe this guy's attempt at being a serious rock musician. He is too darn cheesy for my tastes. I have to admit that I actually like "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx. Big guilty pleasure. I kinda like Gloria Estefan's "Don't Wanna Lose You" but I prefer her more uptempo songs over her ballads. Listening to this cd brings back memories when I had no taste in music whatsoever. LOL!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best One Yet
I've had this CD for a few years now, and I continue to listen to it. I love it! I have checked out of the other "billboard" CDs, but this one is the best in my opinion. I think it has a good mix of songs form 1989. I don't hear many of them anymore. I highly suggest this CD!

4-0 out of 5 stars 1989 is a little uneven
'89 was somewhat of a dull year, at least represented by this collection. Strangely, many of the other volumes had one-hit wonders or artists with only a couple good songs. This one has the opposite, good artists with not so good songs.

The pop-vocal ballad "Eternal Flame" showed the Bangles were running out of steam, as did Tears for Fears' "Seeds of Love." Otherwise great Pop/Soft-rocker Richard Marx does okay with the love song "Right Here Waiting", and cutie Debbie Gibson sounds less inspired with the ballad "Lost In Your Eyes" (though I've gotta give her credit for expanding). Unlike today's teen stars, she wrote her own material, thank God.

Things pick up with John Waite fronted band Bad English's Power ballad "When I see You Smile", one of 2 on here. The other being Hair-Metal band Warrant's catchy "Heaven." Interestingly, the version on their album is more accoustic sounding and very boring. This is the one that gets played on the radio, so that's worth having this for. Boy Band New Kids' "Hangin' Tough" and Donnie Osmond's "Soldier of Love" are embarrasing. Gloria Estefan's "Don't Wanna Lose You" is listenable and Martika's "Toy Soldiers" is surprisingly good. This is what alot of early '90s dance-pop would sound like.

Could've been better, but not a bad way to end the wonderful 'decade of escess.'

4-0 out of 5 stars Good collection
This is a good collection of hits from 1989 and has many songs on here I like. I still here these songs on the radio all the time so it's not like I haven't heard these songs before but they are missing on major hit of 1989 "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul I am a little bit upset over that but hey I will live with that. it is a good collection, I recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a pretty good album
If you're truly looking for some old and rare songs that can't be found in a cd store or the cd is not availaible, this album is the best choice. I have sampled all the songs there and liked most of them. However, I personally found some of the songs there cheesy (no names mentioned). I was glad I found this album and personally, I liked tracks: 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 10 the best. Sadly, I think there should have been a few more tracks and more research done on the music, though it is already very good. ... Read more

Watching the "I Love The 70s" shows on VH-1 sent me looking for 70s music and I found this great dance CD which captures the fun of the disco era with a modern flair. 5-0 out of 5 stars Fine mix of dark trance and complex progressive house
Chris Fortier is one of a growing legion of excellent young American dj's who spin in the mold of better-known Europeans like Sasha, John Digweed, Dave Seaman, and Nick Warren. Curiously (to me, anyway), a major geographical center for the trance/progressive house club scene in the U.S. is Florida, which Fortier, Noel W. Sanger, Boyd Westerman, and David Padilla all call home. Many American progressive dj's are currently linked through the Balance Promote Group, a record charting pool organized by Fortier in association with his Orlando, Florida, based Fade Records. It is largely out of recent tracks promoted by the Balance Group that Fortier has mixed this excellent new cd.

Fortier has released two previous mix cd's, "Alpha" in 1997, and more recently the trancey-breakbeat "Atmospherics: The Breaks." Both were very good, but I think that "Trance America" is his best so far (despite the lackluster title). In keeping with current trends within the world of more underground trance and progressive house dance music, the feel of this mix is dark, complex, and definitely NOT "uplifting." People who have enjoyed Sandra Collins' recent "Tranceport 3," Sasha and Digweed's "Communicate" (particularly the second cd), and the refreshingly new sound textures pioneered by such artists as Cass and Slide and Steve Porter will find this to their liking. There are no soaring synths, builds-and-breaks w/snare rolls, or tracks on which the first thirty seconds provide a complete map of the subsequent seven minutes of formulaic "Euro-trance." The music is highly rhythmic, deep, and dark (I know I keep using that word, sorry), requiring more of the listener than does the lighter, airier fare that has dominated trance releases overall over the past few years. I know it sounds snobbish to say this (and I don't mean for it to be) but those who are most likely to enjoy this mix are people who have followed trance/progressive house for a while now and are looking for music that is pioneering and sophisticated while also still being great for dancing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Progressive trance done right.
The trackselection and mixing here is absolutely unbelievable. Finally someone from this side of the shores can gracefully spin a style which has been long dominated by such British acts as Sasha, Nick Warren, and John Digweed. Never have I hard a progressive trance set so cohesive since Sasha's Ibiza GU set. Chris Fortier may probably be the next king of the deeper darker trance style (Which currently includes the likes of Danny Howells and Steve Lawler). The only problem I have is not getting a two disk set, and the [bad] title (Many may confuse this set with the Ministry of Sound - Trance Nation America Jimmy Van M + Taylor set). After already purchasing Digweed's latest riskier LA GU set, I hope Digweed could sound half as good as Fortier in his future sets. After listening this set, I'm more excited to see where electronic music is heading.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Tranceport of dark progressive mixes
This set does for progressive what Oakenfold's Tranceport did for euphoric trance. A tight little package with a bunch of great tracks. It lacks the expansile qualities of a 2-disc set, but that's an essential part of its charm. A real groover this.
I agree with the other reviewer, the cover art is spot-on, evoking the dark essence of the music within. OTOH, the album title is more akin to those lame series like "Trance Anthems." But, hey, it could've been called "Trance Is Door" or "Trance Fatty Acids."

5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive Compilation
Fortier delivers an excellent selection of unique tracks with this compilation. Good quality progressive that is deep, dark, and envigorating. the cover art is a perfect symbol of the overall feeling of this disc. It may not be a hard banging bass cd, but his mixing is undetectable and his great taste in techno will definitely grow on you. This is what the beautiful trance of 99 is evolving into... Dark, techy, intelligent music that requires patience and respect. This is a one-of-a-kind compilation that any techno lover will appreciate

4-0 out of 5 stars If you're a Digweed or Oakenfold fan you'll like this
I picked this up randomly at a local DJ shop without even knowing who Chris Fortier is. Anyway it's how Euro-trance sounded at the Mellenium. Like somewhere between Oakenfold and John Digweed's Bedrock, but not as much Slacker sound to it. Not much of an edge either, which could be good or bad depending on your liking. Global Underground is probably thinking up an exotic city to send him to right now, and the cardboard box around this one will really be cool... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Respect
first compilation from the famous Respect nights in Paris; It is the best one of the series. Songs like Paul Johnson's Hear the music; Fantom's Faithfull or Dj Cam's Twilight Zone makes of this cd of the best ones I ever had ..
Respect IS burning

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as vol. 2
This is the first "Respect is burning" which I had to get after spending a wonderful week in Paris. My favourite tracks on this one are "Hear the music", "Tout est bleu", "Disco 2000 selector", "Testify" and "(Get ready) for the power of disco". It is actually a little ridicolous rating each single track since the whole compilation is fantastic and a perfect example of the French clubscene as being (one of?) the best!! A cd you must own if you are a fan of the sound of French Disco House!

4-0 out of 5 stars Break Dancer Stuff
HI Im a Break DAncer and ive listened to this CD. Its really funky. Fantom with FAithful is a really cool song. I love to break dance to it and the rest is really great. Im an Xtreme Techno/House fan and I love this CD. Even if you dont break dance its cool any way and its impossible not to dance to at least one song on here. Well Buckwheat440, me gives it a 4 star review. Its a little repetitive, but its great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally, Real House and Disco
Anyone who is a fan of disco & house should give this CD a listen. Its hard to find "house music" since everyone's perception of house around the U.S. is different but this is it. This is definitely "Warehouse Music" (those of you who are from Chicago). Three of the tracks are really hot. The remainder of the CD was straight but it's worth checking out.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is awsome
This cd just rocks! From DJ Cam's Twilight zone to Motorbass's neptune, here is a cd that pumps out 13 tracks of the frence scene. The inly disappointment i got from this cd was no tracks by air, but the cd is still awsome. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This Volume's Feature: Artists on the Other Side of 30
1986 was a year where veterans had a chance to return to the top of the charts (most likely because of the relative death of new wave recently), and some of them achieved this mission with grace. Not only were these particular artists' songs usually pretty good, many of them happened to become classics as well, even if they clearly sound like their time. This volume of BILLBOARD TOP HITS spends a majority of its time on those particular tunes, like Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love"; Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone"; Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight"; Huey Lewis and the News' "Stuck With You"; Starship's "Sara"; Survivor's "Burning Heart"; and Billy Ocean's "When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going." Of course, young artists still had a sizable portion of the year's big hits, and of those, this volume takes Bananarama's great updating of the Shocking Blue's "Venus"; the Bangles' irresistible novelty "Walk Like an Egyptian"; and Mr. Mister's sublime power ballad "Kyrie."

As far as the selections go, it's hard to argue with what's here, since all of the songs are good and have received radio airplay in succeeding years. But it would have been nice if Rhino was able to get their hands on some of the adult contemporary tunes that became big hits as well, like the blockbuster recording of "That's What Friends are For" featuring Dionne Warwick; Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald's gorgeous yet tearful "On My Own"; or pretty much anything from Madonna and Whitney Houston, the two biggest artists at the time. However, again, the ten songs here are pretty good, and they still define the music trends of 1986 pretty well. So people should find this collection as an enjoyable souvenir of that time, even if it's not quite definitive.

5-0 out of 5 stars 1986 has some of the best variety
In many ways 1986 was the last great year for pop music. It's just that later on there wasn't as much variety in the Top 40 since it was more normal for one artist to have a bunch of hits, instead of vice versa in the early '80s.

Billy Ocean is a mainstay on the series, but the dance classic "When the Going Gets Tough" is greatly shortened just like his other ones. Soft-rocker Kenny Loggins did have some more upbeat songs, mostly scattered hits like the great "Danger Zone" which is a fitting highway commute song now. Many of the artists here are the same from '85, but the better hits are here. Starship's part ballad "Sara" is wonderful, as it also eliminated needing to own their album. The opening is spliced, but at least all the original lyrics are there.

Mr. Mister's mid-tempo, addictive "Kyrie," the Bangles' funny "Walk Like an Egyptian" and Bananarama's big pop hit "Venus" are good to have in one place. Survivor's "Burning Heart" was only on the "Rocky 4" sountrack so naturally it's a plus. This and tough guy Eddie Money's instant classic "Take Me Home Tonight" are good also because they add some harder rock. You can't go wrong with Huey Lewis' airy "Stuck With You". Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" is still a radio staple but I never liked it much; it's not god-awful, just not something I want to hear a million times.

5-0 out of 5 stars 1986.
This is a great collection of hits from 1986. When I first bought this CD I only wanted "Walk Like An Egyptian" but then it turned out I liked most of the CD. "Take Me Home Tonight" is a good song and my favorite now is "Sara". The only problem with this CD is there are only ten tracks there should be more!

5-0 out of 5 stars A decent collection of Billboard hits from the year 1986
There are a couple of songs that stand out on this collection, namely "Stuck With You" and "Burning Heart," because they represent lesser efforts from two of the decades bigger bands, Huey Lewis & The News and Survivor. I would rather have some bigger hits from lesser artists, but that is my only real complaint against this collection of hits from 1986. This is a good way of picking up the Bananarama cover of Shocking Blue's "Venus" without having to own an entire Bananarama album. However, this is made up for by having Mr. Mister's "Kyrie," one of three good songs from the one album they put out that anybody actually remembers. Of course, the closer you get to the 21st century the more likely it is that you already own "Addicted to Love." "Sara" and "Walk Like an Egyptian," which makes it more difficult to find five new songs to add to your music collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars A+! Best Billboard CD of all, you can't beat this!
Best Billboard CD of all, despite the songs "Stuck With You" and "Venus", the CD can still get 5 stars without those songs. The songs that really make the 1986 Billboard CD a hit are "Addicted To Love", "Walk Like An Egyptian" and "Danger Zone". BOTTOM LINE: 1986 Billboard Top Hits ROCKS! A great CD to share with your friends and family, great way to start collecting Billboard Top Hits CDs'. 5 stars outta 5 all the way, baby! Erik Carr Age 12 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best best DJ / electronica mix I've ever heard
There are a few other reviews so I'll keep this brief: I'm not a big fan of much electronic music, but I do like some DJ type stuff, a little trance, dub, etc. and I have some of Ninja Tune's catalogue, and this is bar none the best collection of its kind I've heard.

Ninja Tune has covered a lot of ground, and DJ Krush and Coldcut give you an excellent overview in these two discs. On disc one, DJ Krush covers the downtempo, abstract jazz and more hip-hop inflected stuff from Ninja Tune. I personally prefer Disc 2 by Coldcut, where they get into some of the more frenetic abstract jazz and jungle that first attracted me to the label.

Whatever side of that argument you fall on, these two DJs seemlessly lead the listener through a musical odyssey that covers significant ground, always stays interesting, and carries you from Point A to a very unpredictable and welcome destination. If you at all like the Ninja catalogue (Amon Tobin, Funki Porcini, etc.) this is can't miss -- easily the best Ninja comp yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tight Mix
Very chill. It does what few mix cds manage to do, which is to create something more meaningful than only cool songs that bleed into each other. Any fans of any music should check this out, especially if you like coldcut/ninja tune to begin with.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cd 1 Superb ( Hip-Hop Breakbeat) / Cd 2 (Downtempo) bliss
This 2 Cd mix album has the mixing duties divided up between Disc 1 "Coldcut & DJ Food", remixing the artists of the "Ninja Tune" label, with anything as good as their solo albums....with mixes of tracks by Ninja Tune label-mates "Luke Vibert, Funki Porcini, Up Bustle & Out, DJ Vadim, the Herbaliser and Drome", for a dance-Orientated and eclectic mix, hand picking some of the most recognised tracks from the respected artists. "DJ Krush" on Disc 2 is given the same template to work to, yet he chooses far more laid back and intelligent course for his mixes which is in keeping with Krush's 'Blunted' grooves manifesto, which is no quick run through, this stands with his own solo work, and as such is ideally suited for late night listening. And through the use of Stoned grooves, is very Reminiscent of these Kings of the Stoner Album sound "Kruder & Dorfmeister".....because this album captures the best of both world and is designed around either a more upbeat "Dance" cd (Coldcut & DJ Food's Cd) and the more restrained "Downtempo" (DJ Krush) and most surprisingly of all, this album could even appeal to people that aren't usually listeners of Hip-hop/Breakbeat.

5-0 out of 5 stars a trip-hop necessity
for those of you inclined to the triphop scene, these discs are a must. they are the cds that got me into the genre five years ago and they remain unparalleled in my collection. i have never found a set of mixes that so deftly combines jazz, funk, hip-hop, and delicious mix with two very contrasting djs. both have seamless, tasty mixes but both djs have very different styles. coldcut's mix is a little more awake, a little more edgy. it has a brightness that krush's does not. however, the krush cd of the two is probably the disc that gets the most play in my deck. it goes from downtempo chill gradually into a more energetic groove and back down. i would compare his skill in manipulating the mood of the listener to a very fine trance dj: you dont know (and can never quite tell while he's doing it) how the energy got from point a to point b but the mood of the mix changes. you can't pin it on a beat or a riff change. it's a definite thing, though. very mysterious and very artfully executed here. ive reccommended this disc to many friends who always come back beaming and asking for more of the same. in my opinion, this baby is a must-have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This album is one of the greatest mixes I've ever heard. I listen to both discs almost every night, the themes, stories, turntablism, and samples on these two discs will keep you entertained for a long time. ... Read more

Ninja Tune is one of the few labels that still appreciate the meaning of the scratch and the funk: mixing things up with vehemence and style. That's not to say that the label's music hasn't grown increasingly loungy, as evidenced on this uniformly fine, if slightly anonymous, 30-track, 2-CD compilation. Or it could merely mean that the language of hip-hop no longer causes psychic confusion so much as nostalgic memories. Certainly the sound of a typewriter in Kid Koala & Money Mark's "Carpal Tunnel" is as antiquated as a Run-DMC album. Tracks from recent signings Dynamique and Roots Manuva, among others, are brand new and, for the moment, exclusive, while many (including "Body Lockers," Chocolate Weasel's Jaco Pastorius imitation) can be found elsewhere, so research before spending. --D. 5-0 out of 5 stars THIS CD IS AN EARGASM
I love this compilation. It is so rich in jazzy horn lines and mind boggling rhythms for beat-lovers. There isn't as much hip-hop on this compilation as Ninja Tune really has to offer, but there great jazz and trip-hop is masterfully compiled on this album with great artists like Amon Tobin, Kid Koala, Luke Vibert, Up, Bustle and Out, and many others. Anyone who wants to expand into an advanced realm of beats, supplied by the talents of Luke Vibert and others and dark Jazzy horn riffs, supplied by Amon Tobin, J. Swinscoe and others, you're in for a tasty treat. However, be warned. If you are into the trance scene, or into house beats, this might be a gap you may want to refrain from bridging, but otherwise, go for it. buy this CD now, and I'll guarantee that the snares will be crisp and the symbols will ring.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great overview of the Ninja Tune label
A must-own if you're a fan of the Ninja Tune sound! You'd be better-off getting the full albums from some of the featured artists (Clifford Gilberto, Mr. Scruff, Roots Manuva). However, for many (ie Up Bustle and Out) this compilation represents the only good songs from their albums - so you save some cash by getting the meat and cutting out the fat. Overall, an excellent sampling of the talent Ninja Tune has to offer.

(And no, you're not going to get brainless trance music. If you want to dance, look elsewhere - but if you want quality electronica, Ninja Tune has it in spades.)

5-0 out of 5 stars oh sweet heaven....
With a cd like this, you'll soon forget friends and family. Amon tobins "melody infringement" has got me in the knees, on the floor, lost forever.

5-0 out of 5 stars .....and I thought electronica was all about dancing!
If you want to hear full quality, intelligent electronica, this is the label to turn to. The 'Ninjatune' label has a lot of good music to offer. I really did not appreciate this album on first listen, but as i kept listening, it became interesting, and fun to listen to: especially if you like jazz music. This is trippy jazz, though! I would also recommend (highly over this one) "Cold Krush Cuts". That one is a good album, but this has a better variety of the Ninja. You might not get it if you are into dance, trance, or whatever, and are not willing to try something new! ....so be warned!

2-0 out of 5 stars There are a few.....
really good tracks on this compilation. But, I would not recommend it to anyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get Down Tonight
Get Down Tonight, Get Off and Soul Makossa. I love all these songs. They stand the test of time. Donna Summer, Village People and Sylvester. The very best from the disco era. This is a must have collection for any true dance/ disco fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars very funky.
I kinda like this CD.I haven't bought it yet but It's great disco music.I don't know about Soul Makossa but I love the funky jungle beat. This is a pretty awesome cd to say the least.

4-0 out of 5 stars They Call It Boogie Fever
Again, Rhino dishes up more good disco from the 70's. Highlights include the favorites "Rock the Boat", "Get DOwn Tonight", "We Are Family" and "Bad Girls", as well as the not-as-often-encountered "Soul Makossa" and the rather mature (for disco anyway) "Young Hearts Run Free". A few of the tracks simply never did it for me - "Dancing Machine" sounds like a parody, and the liner notes don't lie when they call "Get Off" possibly one of the most annoying disco songs ever. In all, another good collection for you if you "want some ack-SHAWN."

4-0 out of 5 stars Admirable Collection of Disco
Despite a few oddities, the bulk of this CD is disco and pop hits from 1974 - 80. It's not as comprehensive as volume one, but it does boast all-original versions and great sound. ... Read more

Prolific Italian film-scoring legend Ennio Morricone isn't afraid to use contemporary pop idioms in his work but usually eschews them because they become dated so quickly. That shrewd sensibility helps make this collection of remixes by an international slate of dubsters and electronica artists a bit more interesting--and ironic--than it might otherwise be; after all, what music dates quicker than club remixes? Producer Stefan Rambow (Mondo Morricone, the Canto Morricone series) also notably secured Maestro Morricone's approval for the project, giving it an added cachet. But that official blessing may also account for the set's patchy quality. A few of the efforts seem overly conservative--especially given the genre--and hesitant to tweak The Legend too much. Apollo Four Forty and Terra Nova are satisfied to simply overplay the most clichéd elements (twangy guitars, harmonica, oddball percussion) of Morricone's spaghetti Western canon, while the remainder of the set is surprisingly atmospheric and sedate. The elegant melodies of "Chi Mai" sometimes get lost in Nightmares on Wax's groove lite, while Bigga Bush and DJ Dick produce two nicely contrasting takes (rhythmically edgy and languorously dreamy, respectively) of "Clan of the Sicilians" and Thievery Corporation, Tommy Hools, and Ali N. Askin plumb the often haunting dimensions of Morricone's music. Enthusiasts should welcome these mostly fresh takes on his enduring legacy, even if they ultimately prove Il Maestro was usually one step ahead--or completely outside--of the game. --Jerry McCulley ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Moody and melodic
I was a bit skeptical, but these contemporary rhythmic remixes of some of Italian film composer Ennio Morricone's best-known pieces work surprisingly well and make for an enjoyable collection. Produced with the cooperation of Morricone himself (or at least with his blessing), these tracks work astonishingly well in their new guise. Most are too somber to function as dance music, but are quite evocative and lovely as listening music, thanks to the sympathetic arrangements of the artists involved, all of whom seem to honor and appreciate Morricone (liner notes are brief) and the atmosphere these pieces were intended to convey. Fans of Morricone's music will enjoy this successful experiment and hope for more.

4-0 out of 5 stars groovy chill out w/few upbeat twists...uneven but worth it.
according to the liner notes of this cd, this compilation marks the first time that maestro morricone has agreed to a rmx of some of his original pieces. there are a number of standout tracks here - the most stellar piece being tomoyuki tanaka's rmx of belinda. tanaka brings in additional layers of brazilian percussion and layers them with those sweet fpm chorals and piano. this reinterpretation is beautiful and worth the price of the entire album. for those who immediately think "kitsch!" DON'T...far from it. thievery corporation turns in a very solid and typically mellow tune with a cinematic feel, "ile grande silencio." dj dick and bigga bush from rockers hifi both turn in separate rmxs of "clan of the sicilians" and both are fine downtempo though i found dj dick's a more enjoyable listening experience. nightmares on wax's rmx of chi mai is spare but effective, his approach reminded me of the one he used with his rmx of shirley bassey's "easy thing to do." no swelling chords, layered percussion, just a strong unifying beat and tinkling melody. tommy hools was the other track which i found to be superb. very chill and jazzy.

you may find that your personal preference for the remixers influences your opinion of the tracks contained here. i found myself drawn towards remixers whose other work i enjoy.

one star off for the lazy efforts of terranova and for the bad judgement in including a rmx by apollo four forty. these songs are the first two on the disc, so if you can get by them, it is smooth sailing all the way through. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars ICU Trance...
There is a lot better trance out there if that is what you are looking for... Try any of the Gatecrasher cd sets or the Cream cd sets... This compilation is descent, but not great... Kimball Collins first CD with ICU i think is probobly the most classic old skool Anthem Trance CD ever created... Even though i dont listen to trance much, the first ICU was by far the best, none can compair, GT 2000 is not there...

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have cd!
Generation 2000 Episode 2 is a must have album! I had never heard of Generation 2000 till I saw it in Borders one day,I brought it home with me,and I never regret it! Generation 2000 Ep.2 has great trance music,The tracks on this album are both uplifting, and relaxing.I highly reccomend this album to anyone who wants to find good trance music,or who just is looking into buying it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Trance Disc!
I highly suggest you pick up this album because of the sheer-intensity that Pascal Dolle has when mixing. Yeah, it's a little short, but I think that if you're just getting into listening to this type of music you won't be disappointed. The pulsating beats, the melodic voices, it's an awesome disc to listen to on a friday night when driving with your friends. Definitely pick this up!

3-0 out of 5 stars It's ok but
this is lounge, not deep house as I had expected. I was expecting to get my dance on, but this is not the disc for that, this is a cool down disc.

5-0 out of 5 stars XLR8R Magazine
Nary a four to the floor tune graces this collection, which places emphasis on the melodic and the funky. Downtempo, sophisticated and surreal in quality, Hi-Fidelity House is intoxicatingly chilled funk/house awash with synths, strings and silky pianos. All this courtesy of protaganists such as King Britt, Dubtribe Sound System and Pat Barry, all of whom proffer the most sophisticated fare. Even for those heads with a penchant for a more frenetic variety of house, this provides the soundtrack to your inevitable club comedown. In the same vein as the highly succesful Back to Mine series, Hi-Fidelity House is delightfully laid back and unabashadly [attractive].

5-0 out of 5 stars Wallpaper Magazine
From Miami to Helsinki, producers have been toiling day and night to create the perfect summer soundtrack. As ever the Guidance vibe is understated, with groovy headphone house giving this collection its true beach potential. Key seaside moment here is Venus Attack Projects'"Riviera Paradise", an instrumental celebration of yachts, topless sunbathing and shamelessly wearing all your jewelry to the beach

5-0 out of 5 stars DJ Magazine
Over the years the name Guidance has become synonymous with sexy deep house music. More recently they've made some very positive moves in to hip hop territory, but it's house that's made them what they are today. The 'Hi Fidelity' series is testament to this quality and with the likes of Jazzanova, King Britt, Wamdue Music, Kevin Yost and Dubtribe all contributing exclusive tracks to this volume it's easy to see why it's so good. The vibes are spacious and groovy, the cuts ranging from straight-up house to jazz-tinged downtempo beakers. Great listening for mature heads.

5-0 out of 5 stars THe Label
Hi-Fidelity House: Imprint 3 continues in the tradition of quality unmixed listening house that has brought critical and commercial acclaim to this groundbreaking series. In keeping with past volumes, this installment features exclusive contributions from the genre's leading production talents, including: Jazzanova, King Britt, Dubtribe, Kevin Yost, NuSpirit Helsinki, Wamdue Music and more. Here, they join forces to deliver a smooth, soulful and sophisticated program of deep atmospheric house music. Spacious jazz, funk, ambient and electronic textures combine with sultry percussive rhythms to deliver the Guidance sound safely into the future. Mature music for mature minds ! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fashion CD
This CD will take you to the runways of Milan and Paris. Track 2-5 are the strongest. Great CD to work out to. Looking forward the sequel this year FTV 2002. Not widely available in the US. Be the first to own it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre
Although this album contains some songs one might recognize, overall it is mediocre at best. None of the tracks stand out, and most of them foray into the cheesy category. Recycled beats and uncreativy permeates this lackluster effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars MTMLT
It's hard for me to find a disc I can just throw in and leave on when I have somebody over. There is nothing worse than having to stop to change the music, its like answering the phone! But of course, the french, with their savoir faire would never put someting like that out. I would recommend this to anyone tired of Britney and Nelly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get into the Groove with Fashion TV! It's so THIS Season!
This CD screams FASHION! It makes you feel like you're in the front row beside the catwalk. It makes me feel BEAUTIFUL. The mix of Moby's Bodyrock throbs-- really makes you groove. And, Tosca's Orozco knows how to keep the beat. All the tracks are easy on the ears. This is just a great collection of smooth, dancey and glamorous tunes. 4-0 out of 5 stars A swell collection, but SIXTY BUCKS?
No offense to the Marketplace seller listing this for $59.99, but I found it used for $4.95! Who knew it was such a deal! As a disco addict, I know the song lengths are important to know, so here they are:

Chic-Dance Dance Dance (YYY) (8:19)
Sylvester-I Need You (4:40)
Change (lead by Luther) (8:01)
Trammps-That's Where The Happy People Go (6:39)
Ecstasy, Passion, & Pain-Ask Me (3:17)
Roy Ayers Ubiquity-Running Away (4:00)
Junior-Mama Used To Say (6:38) (It's the superior "American Mix")
South Shore Commission-Free Man (7:29)
Gwen McCrae-Funky Sensation (6:31)
Intruders-I'll Always Love My Mama (Part I)(6:37) (That's long enough for Part II as well, I'd venture)
Candi Staton-Young Hearts Run Free (4:10)
Van McCoy-Hustle (3:28)

Looks like 12" and LP versions were used where possible. The series earns points for including songs off the beaten path along with some beaten deep, deep into the path (The Hustle again? It's on every disco comp ever made...) There are also informative liner notes that devote a paragraph to every song. However, before you shell out the megabucks--I've seen most, if not all, these songs on other compilations; listen to Smokey's mom and shop around... ... Read more
