3-0 out of 5 stars Fine smooth, but without the same magic
After a fantastic one and two. Naked Music released Vol. 3 with a lot to live up to. I mean what do you do after a complication such as Mauricio Aviles' Vol.2, which made you fall in love with house music all over again?

I'll cut to the chase; Vol.3 is a bit of a disappointment. Not because it's a bad album (its actually quite good) in itself, but because I can't help to compare it to it's predecessors. After all it is part of a series. It's definitely got that Nude Dimensions hallmark of sleek, sultry and sexy deep house. However it's missing the magic of its predecessors!

I miss that "oh yeah" feeling you get when you hear a series of tunes that just gets better and better. The feeling that makes it impossible for you to sit still.

This CD has its high points especially in the first two tracks where you get the feeling that you're going to hear something special and tracks 12 and 13 which are just lush. However, I keep listening and waiting for the magic to happen as each track rolls by...

Personally I think Naked music are champions in their chosen arena and I know they'll continue to be so, but I can't honestly tell you that this mix is one of their best.

4-0 out of 5 stars Keeping the nude vibe...
Rain starts th CD off sounding like the last two compilations, but this one wanted to stray....If you read inside the Cd it says that Naked Music wanted to experiment a bit with this volume. They wanted to use more percussion, and different beats from around the deep house dance globe. What results is same Naked Music, keeping up with the latest music trends. That's what DJ's do best: experiment and come up with awesome sounds that we can chill to. Favorite tracks: Rain, Everyday and Step into the light. Just a reminder, buy the previous volumes and you won't be sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars My First Chill-Out CD
This Cd is great to Lounge around the house and chill-out to. I love the mellow beats, and funky-jazzy spots..Pick it up no need to second guess it !!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised
I have just spent a weekend listening to this on repeat at a friend's place and have only good things to say about it. I logged onto this now to order my very own copy and found a lot of backwards and forwards on the quality of this cd, how it compares to previous releases etc. So I felt compelled to add my bit.

I have not heard volumes 1 and 2 so cannot comment on them. All I know is that I enjoyed this cd very much. Re the reviews: some interesting comments regarding slip covers, varying styles and failure / success rates on the mixing but at end of day doesn't it just come down to the way you felt at 'that' time when you heard it? Sometimes you don't have to understand why and why should you? And often enough even a complete dissection of the success or failure of an album will fail to dissuade you that YOU like or dislike it more or less, right? So I am adding my comments to the list of people that liked it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classy
being a House fan from the old days and only buying classics,
i just recently discovered this remarkable and hypnotizing brand of music.
I'm kicking myself for not pursuing this earlier...
Shame on me for giving up hope on House.
It's a nice welcome.

5-0 out of 5 stars sensual and soothing
This album in every aspect is fantastic!
Great chillout tunes, excellent for any occasion: A party with friends, a night with your loved one, or even when you're alone at home, or driving your car.

Excellent!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent chill out music
Relaxed, Jazzy, Laid-back house music. Make me remember my first Naked Music album was Midnight Snack which is released in 1999, what a nice album it was, so different from other mainstream chill out flood. This album is even better with much better sound. Non of the songs in this album disappoint me.

By the way, Amazon.com wrote the release date wrong, it is not in 2001, it was in Oct. 2000. However, this album still has the refreshing and up-to-date feeling. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A dance music lover's dream
This beautifully packaged set tells the story of a little record company that could. Casablanca embraced the disco craze early and ended up representing some of the genre's brightest stars.

At only 10 to 13 tracks per disc, you might think you're not getting your money's worth here, but the majority of disco classics are presented in rare extended versions otherwise unavailable. The fourth disc includes some pop/adult contemporary tracks culminating in the fantastic dance mix of 'Flashdance..What A Feeling' which includes an extra line of lyrics and frankly makes the original mix sound like a demo.

This is an awesome collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like Disco? You'll Love This Casablanca BOX SET!
A Four Disc(o) Casablanca Collection. Sure, you get the standard, "Funkytown" by Lipps, "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)" by Parliament and pretty much EVERY hit that Donna Summer and The Village People recorded.

You also get some hard to find/rarity selections like:

Ain't Nothin' Gonna Keep Me from You - Teri DeSario
Let's Go All the Way (Down) - Brenda & the Tabulations
Like an Eagle - Dennis Parker
You Ought to Be Dancing - People's Choice
Medicine Song - Stephanie Mills
When She Was My Girl - The Four Tops
Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band - Meco
Do That to Me One More Time - Captain & Tennille
Yes, I'm Ready - Teri DeSario

Depending on your age, this great box set will take you back to doing "The Hustle" on the lighted dancefloor with the disco ball spinning 'round and 'round. It might transport you back to your childhood roller rink while these disco greats played ALL NIGHT, along with the very popular "Hokey Pokey". Regardless of your age or sex, it will remind you of your TOTAL CRUSH on hip, cool and suave John Travolta, a la Saturday Night Fever! It might make you remember your first torn sweatshirt and first pair of legwarmers with the songs from "Flashdance". "Maniac" with Michael Sembello and "Flashdance, What A Feeling", with Irene Cara.

Spanning several decades, this four disc set ends with the VERY HIGHLY appropriate song, "Last Dance" with disco diva, Donna Summer.

Happy Listening!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Casablance Records Story
A great collection of commercial disco hits, and club rarities. Donna Summer / Village People / Irene Cara need no introduction. But the treats here are the tracks that stayed in the clubs, and have been hard to find since. Teri De Sario's "Aint Nothing Gonna Keep Me" , Dennis Parker "Like An Eagle", Skatt Brothers "Walk The Night" are real treasures, here in their full length glory. We can only hope for a "part two" including the Duncan Sisters "Boys Will Be Boys" / Dennis Parker "New York At Night" / Stephanie Mills "You Can get Over". Bring it on !!

4-0 out of 5 stars A musical time capsule
Although most of the music can be found in different greatest
hits collection of some of the artists featured; is wonderful to have them all in one box. I'm still hoping and waiting for a part
two. Casablanca had one of the biggest acts and singers signed under their different affiliated labels. Missing in this collec-
tion are many hits or well known songs. Like Cher's "Hell on Whe-
els", Teri De Sario's "Moonlight Madness", Giorgio Moroder's "Ba-
by Blue" and "I wanna rock you", Santa Esmeralda's "Don't let me
be Misunderstood", "You are my Everything" and "Another Cha-Cha".
Captain and Tennille's "Happy Together", Roberta Kelly's "Zodi-
acs", Pattie Brooks "Girl don't make me wait and "Party Girl",
Duncan Sisters "Boys will be boys", Alma Faye's "Don't fall in Love", Paul Jabara's "Honeymoon in Puerto Rico", Ritchie Family's
"Give me a break", "Bad reputation" and "It's a man's world", Stephanie Mills "Pilot error" and "Last night", Love and Kisses
"You'll never know how much I love you" and "You must be love".
Plus many others hits and misses by Munich Machine, Sylvers, Starpoint, Ultimate, Deliverance etc. I hope Polydor people is
taking notes and consider another box of hits. The story continues and is going to be told over and over. This set highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE FROM THE QUINTESSENTIAL DISCO LABEL
This CD is worth every penny. It includes the PROMO ONLY of Donna Summer's On The Radio, a short but more potent version of Pleasure Island and the gorgeous -- Music, Harmony and Rhythm by Brooklyn Dreams. The only problem I have with the CRS Box Set is that two of the most gorgeous and technically advanced songs where cut to less then half. The two songs are Romeo and Juliet and I've Found Love. These two songs alone, in full length versions, would be worth the price. Romeo and Juliet was the first record to use 48 tracks. Alec R. did this by attaching two 24 track modules. I've Found Love has the most over-the-top 7 minute brake of any disco song. Of course they are out of print. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A Few Good Songs!
This CD is so-so, the only really good disco songs are Disco Inferno, Funky Town, and Rock The Boat. Y.M.C.A, and It's Raining Men are ok but kind of hokey, and the rest of the songs are hideous! I guess you have to be a major disco fan to totally like this CD, and I'm not a major fan as I only like a few disco songs! All of the disco songs I like are on the Pure Disco CD's and though there are songs on the Pure Disco Vol.1 and Vol.2 CD's's that I don't like there are also a lot that I do like and I just prefer those CD's to this one so I would rate them a 3 and this CD a 2.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good grouping of disco hits
Nice mix of all the biggies from the disco era. If disco's your thing, then this is the series for you

5-0 out of 5 stars Listen to this
The 'Pure disco' series is okay, but there are only the short 7" versions on it. But I like the long 12" versions more. Anyone, who thinks in this way, would prefer to buy 'Disco nights', because here you can get a lot of extended versions. Besides I cannot understand universal records. Why don't they published more volumes (on Universal Special Market)? There would be so much other stuff for another 11 volumes. People would buy that, because many disco tracks, especially their extended versions, are so hard to get. I had searched everywhere, but I have not found another great series like this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great disco album!
If you are a fan of great disco music, then you will love this album. I heard "Shake Your Groove Thing" by Peaches and Herb for the first time after I bought this album!

5-0 out of 5 stars xcellent album!
this is definitely a must buy album because it features tracks like disco nights and heaven must be an angel, ymca and all the other great classic tunes.... where i come from - Malaysia!!! (not known to the world then)were already hits in our local discotheques (some 20 years ago). burning the dancefloors almost nightly. back then it was only available on vinyl's. so i guess most people who are having all the hits or even singles on this album could be on vinyl format, right? most people would still stick to their old vinyls, but hey... having this collection on CD won't harm right?? at least the clarity is there and more durable. most of us in that era would wish a compilation of this sort to be out in the market one day. well..your prayers are answered. since it's out... what are you waiting for... don't regret later as there might never be another compilation as great as this ever !!!

one comment from me is that it would be great if it was release as a 12"singles compilation. ... Read more

A música "making it" é um marco em minha vida..preciso dela !
Vcs poderiam dizer se existe em outro CD ???

3-0 out of 5 stars Dance Floor Hits Disco Nights Vol. 8
The cover says, "Extended long play club versions!", but only 5 out of 12 songs are longer than 5 minutes. I've heard the album version of "Makin' It" (the reason why I bought this compilation) and this ain't it. The long version is at least 5 minutes and this is 3:08. This version of "Bridge over Troubled Water" is only 3:18, but the mix I already have is at least 9 minutes.

Save your money if you like long play.

4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD PERIOD PIECE
Maniac, Makin' It, San Francisco, Brazil, Can't Get Enough ..., Hot Stuff and She Works Hard ... were huge pop hits in the late 70s and early 80s, whilst Linda Clifford's version of the Simon & Garfunkel classic was an underground club hit and considered something of an outrage by musical snobs way back then. Thank God Its Friday was the theme song from the movie. So this compilation veers more to the pop side of disco but is very enjoyable and an excellent reminder of those good times.

3-0 out of 5 stars ROCKWELL IS THE ONLY GOOD THING!

4-0 out of 5 stars Some of T.K.'s lesser-known disco hits.
Based in Miami, T.K. Records was one of the most important disco labels from 1975-81. The Miami disco sound was more energetic and robust than that of New York, Chicago and Los Angeles (it also had a more tropical feel). This is a great party CD- disco, however, was a type of music that more often than not lacked soul, emotion and substance and most of these songs are no exception.

4-0 out of 5 stars less well-known disco classics
A nice collection of tracks for anyone who's looking for the not so obvious disco of the 70's. The cd contains funky disco like 'Blackwater Gold', more 'cheesy' stuff like 'Come Into My Heart', and tracks as 'Dance To The Drummer's Beat', that nowadays are mostly known by its breaks used in hiphop. More than enough to keep you locked in the groove. ... Read more

Falling loosely under the rubric of the '90s lounge/exotica craze--specifically the revival of interest in bossa nova, samba, and Brazilian-inflected jazz-funk styles--this CD culls a consistently interesting set of tracks from a widespread network of musicians and record labels. Although some of the artists actually hail from Brazil, others are spreading the good word from France, Italy, and even Norway. Portugal's Nortesul Records starts the collection with a delicately beautiful song from singer Teresa, and the perfect balance of solid groove and chanteuse vocals hits a peak with the Tom y Joyce track "Vai Minha Tristeza", one of several tracks from performers associated with France's Yellow Productions. Italy's Nicola Conte's "Bossa per Due" combines organ, guitar, and wordless singing with a little sitar and synthesizer, swooping into a breezy four minutes. Also from Italy, representing the Irma Records stable, the Cordara Orchestra presents the CD's title track, a gently melancholy instrumental that has early '70s sit-com written all over it--you can just see Jack Klugman or Mary Tyler Moore having a pensive walk in the park after some minor and not irreversible emotional defeat. Overall, the mix of rhythmic complexity, emotional cool, and a slightly kitschy sensibility will satisfy aficionados and may pleasantly surprise newcomers. --Bob Bannister ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Probably the lowest rate
I am not agree with the most people that makes review of this CD. Infact my real rate it's between the 2 and 3, probably the lowest!I am sorry but i cannnot understand why in this work there are 3 songs like the last 2 (Balanco and Cordara Orchestra) and like the third one (Hi Fi trumpet). It's a pity because the rest it's quite a good job. In any case the project (a jet society around the world) was probably too ambicius. The resault it's more a travel in the night clubs where you can find old rich men with young nice girls. This is the atmosphera that i feel on this Cd. In any case there are something good ( for exemple the first song Lisboa a note) and with good mix (in particular between 5 to 9 tracks). At the end i suggest not to buy it.....but if you buy more than 100 cd in a year...well you can also buy it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice laid back party music
When this is playing in the backround, people don't really stop what theyre doing to listen to it, but it does bring everyone's spirits up. It's a very jazzy funky collection of 50s-70s sounding lounge music from the very modern, to the cheesy burt bacharach-ish last track. Most of it is very enjoyable, but a few just make me laugh and hit the 'next' button, such as Stereo Action Unlimited's 'Hi Fi trumpet'. Overall a very nice cd and a collection of songs and styles I have yet to find anywhere else.

5-0 out of 5 stars Swanky, smooth, and samba-riffic!
This cd has it all, a perfect soundtrack to poolside cocktails, a cool-down drive, or after dinner fun with a select few. A somewhat skewed and slightly blunted approach to Carnivale that will leave you wanting more, and ESL (the label this is on) has it for you. Dont' miss out!

4-0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile revivalist attempt
Beckoned by the hip sophisticates and alluring travel photos on the album's cover, I picked up "Jet Society" from Amazon, along with twenty other discs. With so many albums to listen to, however, the CD was stored neatly in my shelf and never given a second thought. One day I found myself craving a little bossa-funk, so I decided to give "Jet Society" another chance. I'm certainly glad I did. I've discovered some new artists and added a few more favorite songs to my playlist.

Teresa's "Lisboa A Noite" is my favorite track. Check out Pink Martini if you dig this sound. "Hi-Fi Trumpet" has a great latin feel, with a few flute, trumpet & vocal bits to spice things. "Seasons" offers up some retro-modern funk. Organs, jazzy flutes & funky guitars jam as a breathy female voice says "hey, wake up." Unfortunately, by the time you've made a dent in the tracklist, you may do just the opposite. Tracks 7-9 don't quite jive with the others and are worth skipping. In fact, the rest of the album drags until you near the tail end of the disc, at which point the sophisticated jazz-funk of "Cinnamon & Clove II" will perk you up and leave you hungry for more. Sorry to say, there's only one track left for you after "Cinnamon & Clove II," and that's the title track.

In addition to the dull bits near the end, bossa fans may be annoyed to find Nicola Conte's "Bossa Per Due" on this album. Featured on 18 different discs, and a few television commercials, this song (though enjoyable on the first few listens) has grown repetetive and I'm downright sick of hearing it on every compilation I own.

All flaws aside, "Jet Society" is a great compilation, and an essential for those unfamiliar with the budding lounge revival. As the cover booklet states, "these songs suggest a world that can only exist in our imaginations." Pick up a copy of "Jet Society" and escape to your own unique world.

4-0 out of 5 stars sweetness
You know those super-cool bossa nova do-do-la-la vocals you here over car commercials as the honda or peugot glides down a frosty curving highway? Well, the songs in their entirety are on this collection of brazilian, portugese and italian music, each breezier and more soulful than the next. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Old School Classic!
This is a classic compilation from the early 90s. A must have! It contains the now classic rave track "Obumbratta" which features a unique and creative blend of hard techno with opera. It sounds like a song you would expect to hear in a movie action sequence, really cool! Other hot spots are: "50,000 Watts of Power" and the cheesey, yet addictive, "Poing". A great collection that every techno fan must have! If you dig this CD, then I also highly recommend mr.deviant's "Techno Obsession" which is just killer! Mr.deviant is the only artist out there right now that's pushing new techno!!!!

You're having a dinner party. The in-laws are going to be there. So are some of your closest "after-hours" friends. You need music, something mellow but not despicably insipid. Welcome to a double-disc set that will cover all the above bases. Featuring Dido's "Home with Me (Chillin' with the Family Mix)," St Germain's wonderful, downtempo "Sure Thing," and Royksopp's jaunty "Eple," it's mainstream enough for the progressive suburbanites in your midst. Meanwhile, Badly Drawn Boy's "The Shining" and "Nights Interlude" from Nightmares on Wax are culled from a deeper well of modern folk and jazz, respectively. The second disc, which contains some absolute gems, works overall as a more fluid mix. After Jakatta and Moby bring us further in, Dusted hit the dubbed-out trip-hop trail with "Childhood." Witchman (a.k.a. John Roome) has the set's best moment with "Leave No Trace (Dub)," a smoky bit of wicked seduction that makes for a marvelous chill-out gem. --Steffan Chirazi ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh man. Awesome.
There ARE thousands upon thousands of chillout compilations. It seems like the in thing to do if you're a producer.

But this one is still excellent. I purchased this a couple days after it came out, and I've been in love with chillout music ever since; a good introduction indeed.

The track selection is a great way to get anyone into chillout. It showcases big names in downtempo (Thievery Corporation, Zero 7, Massive Attack), stuff you've probably never heard of (Royksopp, Dusted), and even commercially available stuff (Dido, Moby, Deep Dish, Chemical Brothers).

The first disc is the easier to enjoy of the two, as it's livelier, funkier, and would probably go well with your girlfriend, a couch, and dimmed lights. Standouts on the disc are Zero 7's "Destiny", one of my favourite songs ever, Royksopp's incredibly catchy tune "Eple", and the classic Massive Attack tune "Hymn Of The Big Wheel". The only shortcoming on the disc is I Monster's "Daydream In Blue", which doesn't really fit with the mood of the rest of the CD.

The second disc is slightly more abstract and full of lesser known artists. But it does include two very classic tracks: Moby's "Go", and The Future Sound Of London's "Papua New Guinea". Standouts on this disc are Banda Sonora's "Guitarra G", a slick drum+bass track with flamenco guitars, as well as the warm and fuzzy track "16 Again" by Neon Heights.

All in all, this collection is well worth your money, especially for someone who is new to the realm of chillout music.

4-0 out of 5 stars another chillout album...
For those of you who haven't an extensive cd collection of chillout beats this cd would make a nice addition to your collection. I recently purchased this cd as it makes a nice compilation including many of the artists I hold in high regard making an appearance. I must say that the track selection is for the most part exceptional with several of my favourites being listed including "Zero 7 - destiny", "Future Sounds of London - Papua new Guinea" an excellent downtempo version which also makes for an excellent dance track via Hybrid's remix, "Massive attack - Hymn of the big wheel" a moving and vocally aesthetic song as only Massive Attack knows how.. and "St Germains - Sure Thing" a popular track regularly played in bars and lounges since its release on "Tourist".
The cd also includes a few more 'commercial' American tracks from Roger Sanchez ,Jakkata, Dido and Gorillaz , each having been mixed to keep in with the deep and downbeat atmosphere created by the rest of the tracks. Personally I don't think these hold up alongside the European masters of chill on the album like Zero 7, K&D, Thievery corporation and St Germain. CD 2 starts to lose its flair after track 10 with a few sterile and rather flat tracks.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best CDS Yet
When I first heard the cd, I was like man, this would be awesome to chill too, not knowing it was called Ultra Chill. When i found out i knew i had to have it so i bought volume 1 and 2. I loved Volume 1 with Nigntmares on Wax, Gorillaz, Dido, and many more. But when i put in Volume 2 i have to admit i was a little disappointed. But all in all i love both cds and if had a second chance would DEFINATELY buy agian.

5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic compilation
I discovered this CD when I walked into a music store in downtown San Francisco and it was being played in the store. I immediately asked which CD it was and after listening to some other tracks on a listening station promptly purchased two copies (one for myself, and one as a gift).

I don't buy many CDs.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not consistently good
I disagree with some other reviewers. I love Disc 2. It has a hip, mellow but uplifting mood, and flows nicely. Disc 1 is more hit and miss. I'm a bit sick of the Dido track; it's been around a while and used a lot it seems, or maybe it's just that it was the theme song for a TV show that has killed it for me. I've listened to Disc 2 far more than Disc 1. But I'd hesitate about spending full price on this double disc album when only one of the two discs is a keeper. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits of the Greatest Hits
MTV for a long time put together a series of mix CDs every year that basically was composed of some of the most popular party songs from that year. There were 10 volumes in the original set and I have all 10, they took a couple of years off and have recently started releasing the same series but numbering them by the year instead of just a number so the most recent is MTV Party To Go 2000. This CD is a collection of the most popular tracks from this series over the years remixed into one continuous party stream.

By mixes I do not claim that these are very advanced stuff, not anything close to what you get from an even a minimally competent DJ at a good club, however the songs do blend into each other fairly well, of course over the years there have been a couple of tracks they have had no way to blend and just kind of cut directly over to the new song. The same is the case here in a couple of tracks.

I listen to a lot of music so why do I still listen to this stuff which many consider to be nothing but the sugar sweet pop of the world? I must admit I enjoy clubbing and I also enjoy playing songs when I have friends over that they recognize and can get into, and this collection is a perfect example of that, it is a great combination of some of the most popular and accessible hip-hop and R&B from the past several years. Besides I've always prided myself on being able to hold a conversation on just about any subject so pop music is something I try to keep up on. Finally, a lot of these songs bring back memories from my young adult life and therefore are important to me.

The CD starts out with the classic "California Love" by 2Pac which is a great all around tune has some nice flowing in it and also just has a great beat and overall sound. It then moves into a so-so Busta Rhymes track ("Put Your Hands Where Your Eyes Can See" would have been a better choice), and then heads into "Creep" by TLC a really great song all around and truly showing off TLC's fantastic ability. And where would any greatest hits collection of party music be without the eminent Salt 'N Pepa and their classic song "Shoop", a great track with some great lyrics and a really easy to get into beat.

Then we hit one of the most classic rap songs of all time, "Nuthin' But A 'G' Thang" by Dre and Snoop. This track which pretty much brought gangsta rap to the forefront of American culture is also one of the best tracks of all time and really deserves to be on a greatest hits collection. Mary J. Blige follows up that track with "Real Love" an okay tune. Then we truly go old school with the classic Will Smith (then The Fresh Prince) "Summertime" Everytime I think of this song I think of the line "5 mile per hour so everybody sees you" and I realize how true a statement that is about high school life in general. It's all about appearances unfortunately.

Then you can't swing a dead cat in the party music genre without hitting a Janet Jackson song and of course there is one on here to though I am confused as to their choice, they chose "Love Will Never Do", it seems to me something like "Escapade" is a better choice. The next track is the great "This Is How We Do It" which though it has an extremely nasally lead track at times is a decent song all around. There's also A Tribe Called Quest track, and then it moves into another one of the biggest party songs of all time "O.P.P." by Naughty Nature.

"Here Comes The Hotstepper" by Ini Kamoze is an often overlooked in many people's consideration of hip-hop and R&B but I think this song definitely deserves a place on this CD. "Express Yourself" by Madonna is a fairly decent song and does a good job of blending into "Now That We Found Love" by Heavy D and The Boyz which is a great track to the end CD with, being another classic of the hip-hop scene.

Overall if you like party music/pop hip-hop/r&b then this CD is a must have. If you aren't too interested but want to find out what the best of the best of this music sounds like then this is a great CD to pick up as well. I think this CD is a lot of fun and it often winds up finding its way into my player when I'm having people over to just have fun and hang out.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best various artist compilations there is!
I love this CD so much, all of the songs are just so great and bring back memories of a time that was so much better and more fun.I actually wanted to cry, when I listened to it,I was just so overwhelmed by the greatness of it.Every song on this CD is a treasure and Thank You,Rhino, for putting together such a fine compilation!Very highly recommended!!

3-0 out of 5 stars No Eagles?
Real quick, if it doesn't have "Hotel California" or "New Kid In Town" it doesn't represent 1977.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Mixture Of Musical Styles
In my opinion the year of 1977 was a great year for music. Although some would say that the Disco stuff was trash, this CD blends not only rock, jazz and blues but gives us a taste of what people were dancing to in the clubs. If you are into different styles then this is the one for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Billboard Does It Again...
I have always been a fan of compliations of this sort. Even though these songs as a wee-bit older than I, they still stand the test of time. I had originally purchased the disc for one-song, but have heard a few of the others at one time or another. Overall, I was actually quite impressed with the organization of the disc. It has a good selection of songs from 1977. "Boogie Nights," "I'm Your Boogie Man," and "Car Wash" would probably be the most well known songs on the disc. They may be disco, but perhaps that's what makes them cool. Leo Sawyer and Marvin Gaye get their chance to shine. They both do a good job of fitting in on the disc, as Gaye is a legend of sorts in the industry. Seventies icon Peter Frampton is included with "I'm In You," which I find to be a pretty good melodic tune, as is "Rich Girl," by the great duo of Hall & Oates. These guys are an excellent addition to the disc. Lastly, there is my personal fav, "Undercover Angel." Alan O'Day may not have been an icon, but he truly knows how to belt out a tune. This song is full of great melodies, awesome lyrics and overall is a nice piece of 70's nostalgia. I recommend that you pick up this disc, along with other Billboard compliations, as these guys know how to put a disc together. And by the way, Disco may not rule now, but it still is cool in a retro sort of way!

4-0 out of 5 stars This sure looks like dance music to me, boys and girls
Wow. If "Billboard Top Hits: 1977" features disco hits like Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way" and Leo Sayer's "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing," what do they have on the "Billboard Top Dance Hits: 1977"? Well, of course, it is pretty much more of the same. Was disco really this dominant in 1977? Blessedly my musical memories have become dimmer and dimmer as the years have rolled along. The non-disco music scene is represented on this album by Peter Frampton, Hall & Oates, and Marvin Gaye. Even when we are talking disco the rules remain the same: with a hit collection the goal is to pick up five songs to add to your music library. This album falls short for me, but it might not for you. Good luck. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Lot Of Fun...
Great to dance to and a lot of fun to listen to. I like pretty much every track. The non-stop mix is excellent with older tracks like Disco Inferno, I Know There's Something Goin' On, Physical and newer tracks like Die Another Day and Murder On The Dancefloor. One of the best dance CDs I've heard in quite awhile!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Dance Compilation!
After buying Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, I had to get Vol. 3 of Let's Hear It For The Boy and I must say that it's the best yet (especially the cover). I listen to it all the time in my car with the top down and at the gym. Standout tracks are "Come Into My World" and "The Beat Goes On." If you're a fan of dance music and mix CDs, you'll love this!

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love This CD!
I haven't taken this out of my car CD player since I bought it. Strong productions and great vocals. I love the mix of older dance classics ("Disco Inferno," "Winner Takes It All") with new hits ("Love At First Sight," "Underneath It All"), plus the obscure ("Menergy"!). Definitely a lot of fun and worth every penny! I'll be buying Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, plus Let's Hear It For The 80s Vol.1 ASAP. Highly recommended!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Funky Disco Fun!
This is a great CD because it contains the LONG versions of some great all time disco funk classics. ......... Although Disco isn't my favorite type of music per-se, I am a devout rocker with a alternative bent, I LOVE a few cuts here. ......... My first radio on-air job was in the Urban/CHR hits format. "Burn Rubber" from the Gap Band is one of my all-time favorite songs that I fell in love with at that time of my life. It is on here in all it's great funky entirety. A must have song from the brothers Wilson, not featured on any other compliations. ......... Another set of brothers, Johnson that is, do the other must have disco funk classic "Stomp" here. This song isn't featured on any other compilation I searched. I looked high and low at over 200 available CDs here at amazon, and found this cut included as well. ............ There's lots of good material for any disco funkster to boogie down with, like "Jungle Boogie" from Kool & TG, but in a really perfect world, "Take My Heart" would've been included too. Hey, bottom line, this is WELL worth a spot in your CD collections disco section.

4-0 out of 5 stars FUNKY DISCO FUN
Another brilliant album in this Disco Nights series, with great classics like the explosive P-Funk of Parliament's "Flash Light," Isaac Hayes' hypnotic "Don't Let Go" and Kool & The Gang's exuberant "Celebration." Great value for money and a superb introduction to an important sub-genre of 70s disco.

5-0 out of 5 stars Disco Funk at its FINEST!
This CD is tight! It has all the mad hits that will have you dancing the night away. I'm not sure whats up with homeboy/girl that gave it an o.k rating, but all I know is that this is a funk-a-rific CD! I'm grooving to it now... oh yeah!

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok cd but lacks consistency
The first four songs are good. the best is "let it whip" closely followed by george clinton's "Flashlight". The rest of the cd is mediocre. Unless you want to buy the cd for those two songs, pass it up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bringin' the 70s back to life in a funky way!
When I first picked up this disc, I wasn't too impressed with it. But it grows on you. My favorite track is "Flashlight" by Parliament. What a low, dirty bass line! It shakes you body and soul!

4-0 out of 5 stars House+ Funky + Chill + ...
The tracks included have a funky feeling, the bass sometimes is house like, others more funky, the Blue Six tracks are excelent ... but the others are not that high level, that's why I put 4 stars.
A good point is that you can listen many times without getting bored, this is something difficult to find with this style of music!
you really feel like moving your feet with this elegant and sensual music,I recommend it for those who like Brand New Heavies, Incognito, with a house&funky touch

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a classic
The kickoff of the 2nd generation of Naked NYC. You must own it, if you own anything naked.

3-0 out of 5 stars not that good
Too many of the tracks sound exactly the same and I'm not sure I get the particular groove the band is aiming for. It has a funk vibe but the songs never actually funk out, and you can't call it "chill" either because it never chills out. The singers never stand out in any track. The CD would be a lot better if they varied the presentation of music a bit. As it is, it is just one long watered-down eletronic funk thing, and this has been done better elsewhere

5-0 out of 5 stars Still Listening
I bought this CD, let's see, almost a year ago and I'm still listening to it. That's unusual for me b/c I get bored quickly with certain types of music. Someone once said, most of the music business is about "selling the talentless to the tasteless," Amen. However, these guys are talented! If you want something silky smooth to relax to, and with a swirling sexy vibe on top of that, buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
This CD was recommended to me in a music shop while I was vacationing in Whistler. There are atleast 4 standout songs, and the rest of the cd grows on you the more that you listen to it. Then imagine, to my surprise, that one of my favorite songs was actually featured on one of the latest episodes of Sex and the City. If you like lounge house music without too much electronica, this collection of music is for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars TRULY ECCLECTIC!!!
"Carte Blanche Volume 1" is the perfect CD for parties, loungin' around or for wallpaper music. It's not overpowering with filler garbage or overused chillout songs or even techno/D&B beats professing to be chillout. The mixture of breakbeats, jazz and funk on Carte Blanche is sure to win over any average music connoisseur. The mixing and music selections are stunningly appropriate, and the songs accentuate each other. The amazing and most impressive thing about the Naked Music Records label comp CDs is the uniqueness of their songs and the unaccessibity of the artists in most records stores. The bad thing is once you've heard most of the songs on their discs, you're frantically looking around for more material from the featured artists. However, you'll find solace in knowing that "Carte Blanche" is more than enough to tide you over in the meanwhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you can judge a book by its cover, this one lives up
A great mix of chilly acid jazz with a splash of soul. Perfect for the newly curious -- perfect for dinner parties, or any other time you're just sitting around drinking. In fact, I've found the only time it isn't perfect is first thing in the morning (tried it). What's more, there are seemingly dozens more albums on the same theme, so when you hear this and just can't get enough, you have plenty of choices.

5-0 out of 5 stars if you like it chilled, you will LOVE this whole label
We work, we have families, we aren't in the life (ok, maybe we are, but that's another review...) and so we come to trust others to search through volumes of material and select the best. That's what the Naked-Music label does for me. I love (and own) everything they put out. Deep house, chilled, danceable, partyable, at the beachable. This first compilation CD in the Carte Blanche series set the tone for the others that followed. These are all good. Smart, sexy, lucious. Check it out: do a search for "Carte Blanche" and there it is: 5-star reviews all the way. Follow this label. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than OM Lounge?
Indeed, just as OM Lounge changed the sound of music, OM Lounge2 extends beyond where OM Lounge left off...

5-0 out of 5 stars Another outstanding release, well... I bought this second.
So I bought Om Lounge 4 first, but still, this is awesome. The Lounge series of CD's (check out "Hi Fidelity Lounge" also) is a set of complilation (various artist) CD's which create truly unique jazz/electronic atmospheres. A lot like the Peace Orchestra or Filla Brazil. They definately do have a lounge twist though. If you love jazz (especially Samba), or electronic music (especially groove/drum and bass) you will love this whole series of CD's. Perfect for the club you own, or for having a cocktail party at your house. No matter what kind of music you like you MUST check out at least one of the CD's from this series. I bet you will like them.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's solid!
Very good downtempo beats here, honestly. I can't even tell you one bad track. Some you may not listen to that much but frankly each one has its own distinctive flavor and will be nicely accompanied with a beautiful member of the opposite sex and a fine martini.....seriously, buy this and enjoy the sexy yet mellow beats...

3-0 out of 5 stars A bit spotty
Don't get me wrong, I love the Om Lounge compilations, but I don't think that #2 was the best they could do. The songs are all in the same genre (just as every other om lounge compilation) and some are absolutely gorgeous, while others are just a cacophony of noise with irritating little bleeps and bloops stuck in. It's good background music, but not something I'd consciously listen to again. ... Read more
