5-0 out of 5 stars It Got Five Stars... Does It Really Need A Title
This is MxPx's best cd (which is a tough choice, because they're all so good). In fact, this is probably the best cd I've ever heard. Every song is incredible, there's not one that you have to skip. They are all very catchy and very good. They have strong melodies, and do that without sacrificing the cd's punkiness. Don't get me wrong, it is "pop-punk", but it is punkier than most pop-punk/ska-punk acts (ala New Found Glory, Midtown, Less Than Jake, which are all good bands).
Another amazing thing about this cd is that they were in high school when they wrote this album. The songs do seem like they kinda go by a formula after a while, but that didn't bother me at all. Mike's vocals are really good on this album, especially considering how young they were. The lyrics are pretty good. Only few songs have any political meaning (around 4 or 5 out of the 19), but that's alright. They are a Christian band, but besides 2 or 3 songs, you couldn't tell.
I can't say enough about this cd. There aren't any major flaws. If you are a fan of punk or emo, BUY THIS CD, you won't be dissapointed. What are you waiting for- go get it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Times Change
"Teenage Politics" was the first MxPx (Magnified Plaid) album that I acquired. Back in 9th grade when I purchased it, I thought this album was brilliant, full of deep political and emotional truths. After about two years of having set the album aside in order to listen to their more recent works, I decided to throw "Teenage Politics" into my CD Player. I was suprised. Had the CD changed somehow? For some reason the music that I heard sounded whiny, petty, trite, and badly mixed. Frankly, I was suprised that I ever liked this album at all.
The points that they attempted to make with this album: the government stinks, society stinks, the Bible kinda neat, and I never want to work - I just wanna go to punk "rawk" shows. They made their points clear I suppose, but they sound so whiny and immature the whole time that it is hard to take them seriously.
To MxPx's defense (and why I gave the album 3 stars instead of 2), I really enjoyed this album at one time in my life, and I think there are many high schoolers out there who might enjoy it.
I would like to recommend their later albums over this one. Albums like "Life in General" and "Slowly Going..." have a fuller sound and do not come across quite as whiny and immature as "Teenage Politics."

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD!!!
This is one of their early cds but it is still good! This cd includes one of their most famous songs "Punk Rawk Show". Even though some people might not like it because it is "Not Like They Are Now" it is still a good cd and a new person to the band should get this cd.

ROCK ON MxPx!!

4-0 out of 5 stars HOW THE HECK ARE YOU AN MXPX FAN IF YOU DONT LIKE THIS ALBUM
Once i heard the song "Responsibility" from the The Ever Passing Moment, i became an instant fan. And i know what you're thinking. Man, hes a late starter. But that didn't matter, somehow this became the first MxPx cd i wound up getting. And i loved it. With songs like: "Sugar-coated Poison Apple", "Punk Rawk Show", "Teenage Politics", 'Moneytree" and much more. I love this cd, and i highly reccomend this to any MxPx fan.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pokinatcha is better
The followup to pokinatcha wasnt as good. Sure it has the songs punk rawk show, sugarcoated poison apple, and americanism, but his vocals on this cd are not as raw and hardcore like on pokinatcha. But it's mxpx so i would by it. Just to add to a collection. ... Read more

Phil Keaggy is one of contemporary Christian music's pioneers. A superb musician, his music has always been more a reflection of who he is (a musician who is a Christian) and not so much what he is (a Christian musician). In honor of his 30-plus-year career, Myrrh Records released a two-volume set showcasing some of the more interesting recorded moments in Keaggy's catalog. It's tough to pick between the two, but volume 1 perhaps illustrates a little more clearly the diversity Keaggy displayed over three decades. CCM radio fans will recognize "Love Divine," a nice little Beatlesque number that charted high several years ago. "March of the Clouds," one of Keaggy's personal faves, is a masterful and beautiful instrumental off of 1987's The Wind and the Wheat. Both "Theme" and "Where Is My Maker?" capture the late-'70s sound of the Phil Keaggy Band, a rock fusion outfit whose music (not to mention the outfits in the CD's cover notes!) will inspire some grins. "Do Lord," a 1971 live track from a Glass Harp opening gig for the Kinks at New York's Carnegie Hall, is another historical milestone, as is "Little Ones," a highly charged ode to unborn children and the abortion issue, recorded in 1980. Considering that a good deal of his recorded work is no longer available, Keaggy fans owe it to themselves to pick up both volumes of Time. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Christian CD To Listen To
Phil Keaggy is one of my most favorite Christian music artists. His music is so great to listen to, very simple yet uniquely one of a kind. The lyrics are good, sending a clear, strong message. The guitar work is really cool. Here are a few of my most favorite songs from his album "Time 1":

I've Just Begun (Again): This song talks about a simple optimism in our walk with Christ. Even if we run into hard and sad times, we still have hope. We have to "try not to think of things that can't be done" because God can do anything.

Sunday's Child: Another great song, the main theme of the song is about meeting the "King of Hearts".

Love Divine: A fun song with a simple and loving message, about a "Divine Love" from our Lord.

I Will Be There: A song with a beautiful tune and beautiful lyrics. The song is telling about Jesus "will always be there" for you.

Where Is My Maker?: The words were taken from the book of Job, when Job cried out "where is my Maker?" The shuffle at the end is really neat, making me want to tap my feet and snap my fingers to the beat.

What A Day: "What a day that will be when we go up to heaven" is the theme of the songs. Makes me want to sing along!!

If you would like to start collecting Phil Keaggy albums, I suggest you start with this album, then "Time 2". Don't miss out on these great music!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Walk Thru the Park of Time
This is a nice CD from Keaggy. Albeit, these are not some of the 'best' songs which you would find on a greatest hits album, as the review below indicated. However, the album is wonderful.

Many of Keaggy's classics are present (i.e. Sunday's Child, I will be There, Pilgrim's Flight, etc.). The music has an ELO and Beatles type sound to it, and as usually, Keaggy demonstrates how wonderful a guitar player he actually is. Also, the CD includes several previously unreleased tunes, and live versions of other tunes.

Each song on the CD has it's own personality, and in my book this is a good thing, since too many musicians tend to get into a rut and begin to sound the same. Keaggy does not fall into this trap. This is a great CD for the long time Keaggy fan and the new fan alike. I highly recommend it.

p.s. the other time CD (part 2) is a good investment as well, check it out.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but misses most of the real gems
As a Phil Keaggy fan who's heard about 1/2 to 2/3 of all the music he had recorded at the time of this album's release, I think it misses many of his best songs. I still enjoy listening to most of these tracks, but most of them are average Keaggy songs. That isn't a bad thing, because the average Keaggy song is quite good--I just don't think this deserves the "best of" label.

5-0 out of 5 stars Memories
When I was 3 years old my mom and dad got saved. My dad was a guitarist in a on the rise rock band. After burning all of his secular records he staring listening to artists like Phil Keaggy. I remember most of the songs featured on this CD as tunes my dad played on his guitar, or songs we sang at the top of our lungs in the evening. This CD & Vol. 2 is a cumulative work of one of the fore-founders of Jesus music. Each song is like another year and memory in my life. The songs my be poetic, rockin',praise, or just about any style. But the thing that draws me is that the songs are pictures of Phil's life. They are meaningful and real. The jacket of each CD has a paragraph about each song telling us when, where, why, and how the song was created. I have listened to these 2 albums more than any other in my extensive collection...worth it's weight in GOLD!!! =)

5-0 out of 5 stars Long time listener, first time reviewer.
In the late 60's and early 70's, I was always on the lookout for interesting releases by obscure new bands, and the place to find them was at Tower Records on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. I stumbled across a group called Glass Harp and their album was an ear opener. I eventually bought 3 albums (I still have them) before the group disappeared. About 1975 I saw the WHAT A DAY album by Phil Keaggy in a Christian bookstore. What a sweet, melodic piece this title song was... and still is. This compilation CD covers Phil Keaggy's prolific career with some excellent selections from this guitar master. Also give a listen to VOL.2-TIME for some more older, no longer available nuggets. In fact, just about any PK disk is worth having. Keep checking Amazon's Auction site for early PK album titles like WHAT A DAY, LOVE BROKE THRU, EMERGING, THE MASTER and the MUSICIAN, and BEYOND NATURE. Phil Keaggy will open your ear, too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Better than Backstreet Boys!
You would be surprised at this cd. They are like 'N Sync and other popular boy bands and the thing that would surprise you is that they are a christian band. That's what makes them better than 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys. I never owned any secular cds but I liked the popular music like 'N Sync. When I heard this cd at the store I felt happy because it's a christian boy band like 'N Sync and so I bought it. You would enjoy this cd if you are an 'N Sync fan. The fast and cool songs are Jump Jump Jump, Now and Forever, Never Again and Give You More. The other songs are cool too. If you don't like how 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys sing, True Vibe is for You!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD!
The first time I heard the song "Now and Forever" on the radio, I knew that I would have to get that CD. And my money wasn't wasted!! With songs like, "Jump Jump Jump" and "Never Again" and "Now and Forever" - you can dance all night long!! But, dance songs are not the only thing on this CD. True Vibe also displays talent by singing ballads. Songs like "Sweet Jesus" and "What Do We Wish On Now" are so beautiful and sweet. I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone who likes 98 Degrees, 'N Sync, BSB, or the christian group, Plus One.

5-0 out of 5 stars true vibe
I love True Vibe. They have positive messages in their music and sing great!! Their beat has a really cool 'vibe' in it. If you like a lot of boy bands, get them!!! They are way better than Plus One. Their songs are really cool and danceable. hope this was helpful :)

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll get a good vibe from this album!
Boy bands made a big comeback towards the end of the 1990s, starting with Hanson, followed by Backstreet Boys, 'NSync, 98 Degrees, and many, many more.

In 2001, contemporary Christian music (CCM) saw two boy bands come on the scene.

Founded by 98 Degrees founder Jonathan Lippman, True Vibe joined Plus One to become the first boy bands CCM had ever seen. With sounds compared to other secular boy bands, both groups quickly rose to the top of the charts. Unlike their counterpart, however, True Vibe went down a slightly different path.

From the beginning, True Vibe chose to forego videos for the most part. In addition, their concerts were void of much of the dance moves found in other boy bands. Instead, True Vibe focused on their music and lyrics, seeking to get their message across without all of the pomp and circumstance. The lack of videos and dance moves doesn't seem to have dulled the enthusiasm of their fans.

This self-titled debut album quickly introduces you to the harmony that this foursome is capable of producing. From toe-tapping pop-rock songs "Now and Forever" and "Never Again" to smooth flowing ballads "Sweet Jesus" and "You Found Me," True Vibe fires on all cylinders.

Like their CCM boy band counterpart, True Vibe is also going through changes. At the time of this review, founder Jonathan Lippman is looking for the final replacement for the group after he and the other three members went their separate ways in mid-2003. While I do not doubt that the new make-up of the group will be just as good as the original, it won't be the same. For that reason alone (though there are many, many other reasons), you should add this debut album to your collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I love this cd, True Vibe has just the right mix of slow and fast, with beautiful ocupela on the last song. I would definately recomend this cd to anyone who likes good music. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful but thin
"I can" is an incredible song! Its basically the christian version of Nirvana's "Smells like Team Spirit", only "I can" puts Nirvana in the dumps. The song is creative, heavy, and powerful all around. Sadly, thats where my enthusiasm ends. The rest of the CD is, lyrically, everything I expect from a Christian rock band, but the actual music aspect is thin and undefined. "Saturn" is an all around decent song, but it was really easy to tell this was their first CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars A cd with great lyrics, great guitars and a rockin voice!!!
This CD is so good, and the thing is how the lyrics are just so deep that it is addictive! skillet preaches an outstanding message and the powerful vocals mixed with great bass and electric guitars and a drummer with a great sense of beat... it just rocks is all I can say! to me, they are a lot like the modern Christian form of a limp bizkit, korn, fuel or our lady peace... "I can" and "gasoline" all rock and the acoustic "Saturn" is a great touch to the CD, overall, this CD is a great lineup and could be the greatest Christian album ever, definitely one of them!

3-0 out of 5 stars alright
i lisend to the short music clips on this cd and i wasent impressed , i am a major skillet fan but i dident really like this cd i will of course give them some slack because after all this was their first cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest albums of all time
I'm trying to figure out how to start this review, but how do you describe perfection?
All I know is I remember when this CD was first released. It was on my birthday, and upon first listen I was blown away. The shear range of Skillet has blown me away from day one. Whether it's 100% rock as in the song "I Can," to a softer praise song in "Saturn," Skillet proved from day one they were going to be the next big thing in the Christian Music industry.
Only Skillet can take a situation like God pouring gas on our hearts and setting them on fire and make sense of it all. John Cooper ranks as one of the top lyricists of today.
This CD is a definite must for all, but expecially those who have heard Skillet's later works and wished they had more rock, less electronics.

4-0 out of 5 stars the early days
I'm a latecomer to Panheadom. I picked up their self-titled as the final component of my five-strong Skillet collection, already well-versed in the sounds of Invincible, Alien Youth, and Hey You, I Love Your Soul. The result was immediate suprise for me, and a monthlong vacation in my disc rack's nether regions for the unfortunate CD.

Despite my first impression, Skillet's Forefront debut is actually quite good. It sounds very little like any of the others. This is from before the electronic sampling frenzy that gave Hey You it's distinctive edge. Skillet was a novice threesome with a surprisingly tight sound, just beginning to pull together the musical chemistry that makes a band a band.

The music has more grunge in it than any of their subsequent work. I Can, Beautiful Robe, Paint, and Promise Blender are tight, edgy guitar tunes, split up by a handful of more upbeat songs. The radio-friendly acoustic single Saturn (included ad infinitum on contemporary compilation albums) and the original worship song Safe With You provide counterpoint to their unpolished rock edge. The penultimate song, Boundaries, opens with a distinctly un-Skillet guitar hook that sounds like it was ripped from a Lenny Kravitz CD before John's rasp takes us to the song's anthemic chorus. Splinter closes the album on a peppy note.

For someone just getting into Skillet's music, I would advise starting with either Alien Youth or Hey You, I Love Your Soul before digging back down to their roots. This record is less pulled-together than either of those CDs, though it certainly earns its place alongside (or just above) Invincible and Ardent Worship. The awkwardness of certain filler tracks bumps the album down to a four, but it's a respectable early effort from a powerhouse of underappreciated alterna-rock. Headbang with me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
This album was my favorite all through highschool. I memorized every word to every song. Some of the songs are so beautiful...."You Breathe" and "Maybe Tomorrow" are amazing. This album is proof that there is some WONDERFUL Christian Alternative music out there! Wish they were still making music together!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pure Pop for Godly People
Shimmery acoustic guitars and melt-in-the-mouth harmonies are the hallmarks of this, Nouveaux's second (and unfortunately, last) album. Starting off with "Maybe Tomorrow," an innocent ode to a future love, the disc highlights Paul Alan's limited, but passionate lead vocals. At times, the harmonies and generally tuneful songwriting recall PFR, but the group definitely finds its own sound and niche within the Christian Rock genre.

The crystal clear production from John and Dino Elefante, while sometimes a bit bland and processed-sounding, suits their acoustic-guitar-based creations well. On songs like "You Breathe," Alan even begins to sound a bit like John Elefante, while "Simply Beautiful" and "Never See the Day" recall power-popsters like the Posies and the Rembrandts.

Altogether, "...and this is how I feel" is a very enjoyable and affecting work. The boys definitely knew what they were doing, and one can only hope that Paul Alan's recent solo debut will continue to shine a light for Christ as brightly as this album does almost 6 years after its release.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD
I love this CD. These guys have a great sound, as well as meaningful lyrics. "Simply Beautiful" and "Listen" are my favorites! I can't believe this is it for them! They're too good!

5-0 out of 5 stars I am in love
I absolute love this CD!! It doesn't get much better than this. Nouveaux is amazing! Althoug I don't think they are together any more, I rate them as one of my favorite bands. If anyone has information on how to contact them or if they have a websight e-mail me, because these guys will take your breath away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I really liked the music on this album. The lyrics are well thought out and are full of heart. The song "Maybe Tomorrow" is one of my favorites. It reveals to the listener that you can still have dreams even when you haven't met that special person yet. They have a way to share many of the feelings that their listeners have. These guys are truely inspired by our Father and His love pures through their music. Truely Inspirational! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm disgusted with a reveiw written but Love the cd and Amy!
I'm responding to another users talk about Amy Grant. I don't understand what doesn't not make her a Christian. Just because she uses language and had an addiction or whatever doesn't not mean she's isn't following her faith. Where in the bible does it say all that is against god. Nobody but God can be the judge of that. She's still a great person even with all of that. And you don't have her life and can't judge her for that. And to think. I'm 16 and understand that. Sorry but you are wrong. This cd is great along with all her others. She is a wonderful person and great role model. Thanks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amy with a ROCK voice
this is the first album i ever listened to, and i still listen to it. its inspiring. i think its cool how she sings,i like the synthisizers and guitars too.
she doesnt sing like on this album anymore, but she is still awsome!

4-0 out of 5 stars Complex Pop and Issues
First album to show Amy's songwriting complexity, and true heartfelt pop sensibilities. So many gems besides the popular Thy Word. Use of synthesizers is creative, but would love to hear songs like Where Do You Hide Your Heart updated without so much 70s-80s synth. Thank goodness for Rhodes beds on the driving It's Not a Song and Open Arms. And piano on the standout and touching Doubly Good to You written by Richard Mullins.

The whole second half of the set moves emotionally and musically to the thoughtful The Now and the Not Yet. The "realness" of her voice quality and interpretations come through. Easy to understand why she would soon be doing duets with Peter Cetera, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another classic album
Pulled this tape out and found myself playing it so often, I had to order the cd for the car. I absoloutly love Open Arms, Jehovah, lots of great tunes on this album

4-0 out of 5 stars In Response
Straight Ahead looks like a good record simply from the appearance of "Thy Word" and "Angels". Now, to respond to the June 20,2002 reviewer:

'Amy says in Ladies Home Journal (December, 1985, p. 100), "I have a healthy sense of right and wrong, but sometimes, for example, using foul, exclamation-point words among friends can be good for a laugh."'

Where in the Bible are words like S()H()I()T, A()S()S(), or
H()E()L()L() considered a strike against the 10 commandments? Oh that's right, they're not. The Organized church has gained too much power these days and people look upon these words as breaking the 2nd commandment. There is only ONE way to break the 2nd commandment, to say God (d)(a)(m)(n). Amy Grant made an excellent observation in that interview, and she makes another one in the Bob Millard interview (see below)

'Amy says, "Why isolate yourself? Your life isolates you enough. I'm isolated when I walk into a room and somebody says, She's a Christian and NOBODY OFFERS ME A JOINT and all the coke (cocaine) disappears. . ." (Bob Millard, Amy Grant, (New York, 1986), p. 169)'

What Amy means by this statement is that anybody else could walk into the room and BE offered a joint, and the cocaine wouldn't disappear. But she feels isolated, or alienated, because she isn't offered one and people look upon her as the party pooper.

'Husband Gary Chapman confessed in People magazine (July 15, 1991 p. 72), of a six-year cocaine and marijuana addiction!'

First of all, that's Gary Chapman, not Amy Grant. Secondly, it could have been before he became a christian. You seem obsessed with digging up dirt. You must want to TOTALLY destroy Grant's legacy or career.

'Amy also says, "I remember years ago - the first time I smelled anybody smoking a joint at a concert, I WAS THRILLED . . . it meant to me that obviously this person is not affected by the church peer pressure."(Bob Millard, Amy Grant, (New York, 1986),p. 30)'

She wasn't thrilled because she craved the marijuana. (Great job capitalizing the comment in question) She was thrilled because she feels that the organized church has crossed the line once again and smoking pot is considered a sin. Note the words "Church peer pressure"

So there you have it, your case and your attempt to damage Amy Grant's career has been refuted. Go bother Evanescence.

Amy Grant's Home for Christmas showcases her mellifluent vocal chops in a variety of settings and succeeds mightily. There's a sophisticated touch of Streisand in Grant's clear and bright timbre, but there's also a young tenderness and innocence there, as well, that captures peoples' hearts. Grant puts a batch of standards, more recent works by Carly Simon and David Foster, and her own songs through big but tasty orchestral swells, rock & roll reveries, acoustic pieces, and mild pop surroundings. Most surprising are Grant's two contributions (cowritten with Chris Eaton and Robert Marshal, respectively,) "Breath of Heaven/Mary's Song" and the powerful and humbling "Emmanuel, God with Us." Exquisitely produced and arranged, Home for Christmas is a highly rewarding mainstream Christmas masterpiece without flaw or pretense. --Martin Keller ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Classic
This album is simply top rate. Everything is done so well: song choice, original-song music and lyrics, arrangements, orchestration, performances, even the album art and photography. Especially enjoyable are the lush orchestral treatments of the classics and the exquisite original songs. Amy has always been a great songwriter, and this album contains two of her best: Breath of Heaven and Emmanuel, God With Us. Phil Keaggy's guitar on O Come All Ye Faithful and its gentle, beautiful arrangement also deserve mention. If there's one Christmas CD you'll want to put on Repeat, this is it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I look forward to pulling this out every year after year.
This has to be one of the most incredible Christmas cd's I've ever owned. I've replaced it a couple of times and I'm so confident it's a universally appealing compilation I've given it as gifts to many people I love.
"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is so charming and sweet but not saccharin.
"It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" sounds as if she is as jubilant about Christmas as anyone could be.
"Joy To The World/For Unto Us A Child Is Born" is a resounding buoyant combination.
"Breath Of Heaven (Mary's Song)" is a song I look forward to every year because it captures the meaning of Christmas on a very personal level, the birth of a child.
"O Come All Ye Faithful" is a great classic.
"Grown-up Christmas List" is probably my favorite modern Christmas song. The first time I heard this I was so touched. The sentimantality is incredibly moving and also captures Christmas.
"Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" is still a fun and upbeat to hear, just don't carry egg nog while listening - you'll spill it.
"Winter Wonderland", "I'll Be Home For Christmas" are classics she sings with fresh and joyous appeal.
"The Night Before Christmas" even in the middle this is a great track.
"Emmanuel, God With Us", "Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring (Instrumental)" are both goosebump-producing-musical "abundanza".

If you really want a Christmas cd that "gets" the respect and wonderment of Christmas and yet has fun with the secular party element of the season this is THE cd for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my Top 10 Christmas CD's
This CD does everything well - the big orchestral arrangements that are fun and swingy, the hauntingly beautiful religious songs she wrote, the softer acoustic numbers. She doesn't make any bad choices here and there's maximum style with minimal schmaltz. I'd never purchased any of her music before but consider this in my top 10 of Christmas CD's, which is saying a lot because I've collected a ton of Christmas music over the years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another classic mix of Christmas songs from Amy Grant
Amy Grant's first Christmas album was released in 1983, when she was one of the top Christian gospel singers in the country, contained four original songs on which she was one of the writers and a mixture of contemporary Christmas songs and religious hymns. For her second album in 1992, a year after she had three singles on the pop charts ("Baby Baby," "Every Heartbeat," and "That's What Love Is For"), Grant only had a hand in writing two songs for the collection, which clearly emphasized popular Christmas songs over the religious hymns. After all, why argue with success. "A Christmas Album" has been a perennial seller for twenty years and "Home for Christmas" is just a step below (the formula was more impressive the first time around and the choices were a more eclectic and more interesting).

I usually think that Amy Grant is almost the ideal singer of Christmas songs, because she has a nice enough voice, but it is also a natural voice, and you can sing along without feeling like she is blowing you away. She sings slow songs like "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas" as well as the fast paced holiday rocker "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." I really like the medley of "Joy to the World/For Unto Us a Child Is Born," and the beautiful "Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)," one of the two songs co-written by Grant. Once again, Grant ends her album with a really old-fashioned hymn, this time Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," as a final reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. Once again, Amy Grant supplies a solid mix of Christmas songs for our holiday listening enjoyment. "Home for Christmas" made it to #2 on the Billboard album chart in 1992 (and #1 on the Top Contemporary Christian chart, of course).

5-0 out of 5 stars sweetness and light, joy and delight
There are numerous musical styles on this CD, but they are all tied together beautifully, and the musicianship is superb, from the classical orchestral mode to the very '50s rendition of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". The orchestrations are mostly by Ronn Huff, and performed by The London Studio Orchestra, and are simply exquisite, as are the individuals like Shane Keister, who plays piano on the fantastic "Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)" and 2 other tracks. Grant's voice, though not strong, is charming, and she has a lovely style. Her sound is one that falls gently on the ears.

"Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)", is a song Amy co-wrote with Chris Eaton, and is for me, the highlight of this CD. The words are incredibly moving, and apply not only to Mary as she carried Jesus within, but to motherhood, and every new mother who must feel awe and little fear; " I am waiting in a silent prayer / I am frightened by the load I bear". Amy sings her composition with conviction and passion. It is a perfect song and a perfect performance.

Another standout is "I'll be home for Christmas", with a great vocal by Amy, Clare Fischer playing a wonderful jazzy piano, and lush and fabulous strings.
You don't have to wait until Christmas to enjoy this CD, it's good music, anytime of the year. The booklet insert includes all the lyrics, the sound is excellent, and total time is 42'39. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Best yet
I gave the last Smalltown Poets a less than glowing review. There were only a few songs on that CD I truly enjoyed (the spoken word intro to "Quasar" made me cringe). THIS time the Poets have hit a homerun. "Third Verse" is a strong CD from start to finish. "Any Other Love" is just a perfect song. It's the best thing they've done. And they certainly know a good song to cover... not once but twice! "The Lust...." and "Beautiful Scandalous Night"... Wow, great taste guys!! If you are looking for good, solid rock with smarts, this is it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Poets Sing With Feelings
On their first two albums The Smalltown Poets just sang christian pop-rock music but this time, with their newest album, Third Verse, it expresses their feelings of love and God with catchy rock tunes.

5-0 out of 5 stars STP's Fourth CD is Coming in September 2004!
Check Out www.SmalltownPoets.com! It is their Home Web Page!
The new Smalltown Poets recording is complete! The album titled "It's Later Than It's Ever Been" is scheduled to be in stores in September 2004! Less Than 6 Months From Now! The first single, "The Truth Is Out", will be released to radio in mid to late Summer 2004.

I'm just a huge SP fan! This is a well thought out disc. I wish they would make another! I have all their stuff and I never been let down.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great double live cd set!
This is an amazing double-cd live set. While most of the showcased songs are from the "Touch" cd (or "Audio Lessonover" in the UK), there are a few from their other cds. Two songs are remade ("I Could Sing of Your Love Forever" and "Happy Song") and they both benefit from it - especially "Happy Song" which loses it's rockabilly original sound for rock. All in all, this is good, though I miss the more straightforward worship songs like we got from "Live and In the Can" - but I guess you wouldn't want them to just rerecord all the old ones, would you? "Fire" benefits from the live treatment, and Stu gets behind the mic himself for an acoustic rendition of "King of Fools", but "Show Me Heaven" sounds a little like the audience reaction may have been put in later (listen and you'll see what I mean). A great double cd and I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great live cd set from Delirious!
This double cd set contains live songs from most all of the Delirious discography, but leans most heavily toward "Touch" (or "Audio Lessonover" as it's known overseas). They also redo "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever" with Martin singing the bridge in Spanish (and it actually sounds pretty cool!), and "The Happy Song" (which really benefits from the new treatment to go from the rockabilly sound it had to a rugged rock sound). "Fire" sounds like it comes across hard and rocking in the live version, and Stu actually takes to the mic for his acoustic version of "King of Fools". All in all, this is a great double set and is well worth it, especially if you've always wondered how Delirious would sound live. The only downside to this is that it doesn't contain as many solid worship songs as "Live and In the Can" (their other live cd), but you really wouldn't want the same songs on both cd's, so that's ok. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars blow off the cobwebs!!!
Tell you what, you need the religious cobwebs blown off you? Sick and tired of lifelessly sung hymns and wanna feel free? Then whack this in your cd player, turn the volume way up and let delirious lead you in praise and worship.

Honestly, I was a hymn-listening presbyterian(Not that there's anything wrong with that) until these guys set me free!!

Great songs, passionate and God-centred lyrics, killer rifts, screaming guitars, bring it on!! And remember God looks at the heart, and these gentleman are filled with passion for there Lord, this cd is full of emotion and that's a good thing!

4-0 out of 5 stars Bottled Live
I would have to say that this CD comes about as close as possible to being at their concert without being there. The first CD in this double-CD offering is pure magic. The second CD has some missteps (for me that is) and mostly those are the songs from AudioLessonover, but it ends really strong. Highlights for me have to be the live versions of 'History Maker' and 'Hang on to You'.

1-0 out of 5 stars Totally Essential Death Metal!!!
YEAH!!!!!!! Rawk On!!!!!! This is the heaviest album i've heard in years!!! Delirious makes satan look like a sissy school boy. I could of sworn I started to hear voices after I listened to the first song... I think it went somthing like this:

"All hail the dark prince, give me your soul... the power of Satan compells you!!! Fwahahahahahah!!!"

It might of just been my mother calling me for supper... But either way, If your into the whole "Death Metal" scene I'd reccomend somthing like Cannibal Corpse, or Deicide. But these guys make them look like The Backstreet Boys. Why did I give it only one star you ask? simple... It's just way too satanic!!! After you listen to about 42 seconds, your for sure goning to Hell, In fact... What do you think your doing reading my review?!? You should be in church trying to repent for all you sins. You should all be ashamed... *tsk* Listening to music.... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun rock/blues album
The music: The most famous track on this CD is without a doubt #3, Two Sets of Jones'. This is one of BTR's few songs that actually made radio time, at least in my area. While there are many other fine songs on this disk, most notably Thief In The Night and Faith Of A Little Seed, none of them really stand out. One of my personal favorites is Ballad Of Arlis Richards, a song about a crosstie walker who lived among the blacks with a guitar on his back singing about Jesus. All of the tracks, even the skimpy Message From The King, are marked by the BTR's signature rolling blues/rock sound.

The booklet: Actually, it's not a booklet but instead a square folded in four. However, all the lyrics are listed, even if not very readably.

The artists: I saw these guys in concert once in 1999 at the Eastern Maine Teen Convention in Bangor, Maine. While they were a small enough band that the Convention could actually get them to come, they put on a very good performance. They were open and personable on stage, had some cool guitars, and remained cheerful even when showered by handfuls of quarters and bottles of water thrown by an exuberant crowd. After that impressive show I promptly purchased their CD, and while they have since broken up and gone their separate ways, this self-titled album remains a good example of their rolling rock and high energy.

In summary: Not deep, but not shallow either. A good middle of the road rock/blues effort by some dedicated little guys.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bought it for one song and love all 11
As someone who listens to a variety of music, I hadn't heard much of Big Tent Revival's music prior to buying this CD. I've been a fan of "Two Sets of Jonses" so I decided to take the plunge and buy the entire CD for only one song. I've never been more pleasantly surprised. The songs offer a nice beat and tune, perfect when I'm driving home from work and don't want hard rock, but want something more than classical music. I highly recommend this for those who enjoy getting a good message from Christian music but don't necessarily enjoy tradational gospel music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blues & Folk rock - updated for the 90's!
Awesomely talented young band. Delivers the Christian message through great music. Not too heavy -- not too light! (If you grew up in the folk rock era you'll love it and your kids will love it too!)

5-0 out of 5 stars X 2004
When 'X 2003' came out, I was fairly new to christian rock music, and very excited by it. I had heard several of the groups on '2003', and like them. First chance I got, I bought the cd, and it has been a jewel to my ever-growing collection of christian rock cds.

So 'X 2004' had lots of appeal to me when it came out. Although it doesn't have as many songs as 'X 2003' (34 songs to 18, I wasn't very happy about that), but the music is still great. Some of the slower, or more boring styles of songs from 'X 2003' have been shaved away and the result is an even harder, edgier, and BETTER cd. Even if there aren't as many songs.

2-0 out of 5 stars Well
This cd would be good if you had like a small collection of cd's. I, on the other hand, have a ton of cd's and I have most of the cd's of the bands that are on this cd. So if you r a huge fanatic of christian music(like me) and have a ton of christian music cds(like me) then I wouldn't suggest you in buying it. If you are just getting into christian music, and want to know what bands sound good, then this cd would be perfect for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good alternative music mix
Having been out of the Christian hard rock/alternative music scene for several years this album brought me up to speed with today's bands. I only wish there was more music like this when I was in high school...I had to settle for Stryper, Bloodgood and Whitecross. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Let The Praises Ring!!
I am AMAZED at how great this CD is!! Lincoln Brewster, who played and co-wrote songs with Steve Perry of Journey in '94, is extremely melodic, positive and uplifting! Every song on AMAZED is a pleasure. Especially, Let The Praises Ring!! A must have!

5-0 out of 5 stars Let the Praises Ring!!!!!!!
I have not actually purchased this cd yet, but I plan to. Lately in my church, we have been having these AWESOME songs in our Praise & Worship service. After hearing them, I went online to look up who the artist was. At the time, I had never heard of Lincoln Brewster before, now I am a HUGE fan! His songs have a real grasp of what it's like to love the LORD with everything you have! You can feel Lincoln's joy in every word. I highly recommend this album, and any others by Lincoln Brewster. I can't say enough good things! Keep an eye out for this guy, he is doing great things for the Kingdom!

5-0 out of 5 stars Blues-Rock Meets Heart-Felt Praise Music....
I love this album! The best cut without a doubt is Everybody Praise the Lord, the song sounds a bit like Blues-rock. Every cut is heartfelt praise. My only complaint is that overall is a little uneven. There is not as much rocking as I would like, one too many slow songs. Still, it is some of the freshest sounds to come out of the music industry in years. If you want to "Be Amazed," Then "Everybody Praise the Lord."

5-0 out of 5 stars Lincoln's latest CD is non-stop fun
Lincoln Brewster is awesome. If you have not picked up one of his CD's then you are missing out on a truly great talent. Lincoln has a pure and endless love for God and that love shows through his music. This CD is a blast. Insert disc, press play and let it run all the way through. Non-stop, God-worshipping, rock and praise. Oh, did I mention that Lincoln can sorta play the guitar? He is the best Christian (and maybe secular) guitarist out there and he has the most amazing voice. Buy this CD, you really should not be without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leaps and bounds above his previous albums...
Lincoln has really outdone himself this time. The release of "Live to Worship" was incredible, and for an album to be actually BETTER than that is something that only Lincoln can do. Incredible lyrics mixed with fresh guitar riffs and solos that lift up the spirit. Lincoln shows his talent again with guitar solos that are absolutely incredible, and trademark Lincoln.

For musicians, the CD comes included with lyrics, chord charts, and powerpoint slides for use in worship services. Lincoln really worked hard to make sure that local assemblies could play his stuff to worship God.

If you get just one worship CD this year, make it Lincoln Brewster's AMAZED. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unseen but definitely worth hearing
Following on the heels of the Grammy Award winning "Beyond Belief," Petra returned to the studio and churned out another jewel in "Unseen Power." Maintaining the hard heavy metal influenced sound of previous works on several songs, the band also demonstrated a mellower pop image that went over well with the radio-listening public.

Without a doubt, "Destiny," "Ready, Willing and Able," "Dance," "Secret Weapon," and "Sight Unseen" rock with the energy you would expect from Petra. In my opinion, Petra shines best when they play hard and heavy. "Who's on the Lord Side" sounds like gospel on steroids (bluesy, heavy, and hard) while "Hand on My Heart" is quite a soulful pop song. "I Need to Hear from You" is rock/pop at its best with its hooky melody and sing-a-long chorus. "Hey World" provides a thought-provoking yet positive spin on abortion and suicide (positive solutions that is). "In the Likeness of You" is a pretty prayer ballad requesting the Lord to help us be more like Him.

All-in-all, this is a very enjoyable mix. If you ever get a chance to watch the accompanying videos, you may enjoy it more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Unseen Power offers Petra with a few surprises.
"Unseen Power" sees Petra eager to duplicate the sound and power of its earlier hit albums like "Beyond Belief" and "On Fire" while venturing into areas which will leave a few fans suprised. Most of the tracks are outstanding, including the opener "Destiny", the ZZ Topp-ish "Ready Willing and Able" and the very catchy "Dance." "Hey World", probably the best tune on the album, sees Petra dealing with the tough social issues of abortion and suicide, something they've rarely touched on before. However, the cheesy "Who'se on the Lord's Side" and the weak "Hand on my Heart" makes a classic album a four star one. While it admirable that they experiemented, some fans will be wondering if they are listening to a Petra song or a R&B ballad. It also seems that some of the songs were rushed, maybe out of deadline reasons ("Secret Weapon" and "Sight Unseen" seem thrown together at the last minute) This can be blamed on the poor production work of the Elephante brothers, which tells me that Petra perhaps needs a change of producers. It still doesn't diminish a solid, if not spectacular follow-up to Beyond Belief. Definetely a must for any Petra fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smokey Robinson would be halted in his tracks
First I am weary of trying to identify which of the John Schlitt era Petra albums (CD) are my favorite. They all are! They capture the Arean Rock era sound with unmasked praise of the almighty God. No veiled lyrics here. Second there seems to be no confining this group, just when you settle in to the Arena Rock groove they let you have it with a song that I think would even halt Smokey Robinson in his tracks. I'm sure even He would have to be impressed with "Hand On My Heart" If it says Petra and John Schlitt somewhere on the jacket - buy it! Unseen Power is another killer work from these guys.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible work
Petra has been a Christian rock standard for a long, long time now, and I believe that their peak was reached with the release of their "Beyond Belief" album. This should not overshadow the work put out on the two albums before "Beyond Belief" or the two albums which followed "Beyond Belief", this one being the fitst to follow that album.

"Unseen Power" cranks it up a little more on some of the songs, and a little less on the others, but the overall power is there. The band has always had a very beautifully polished sound, and this album is a perfect example of that. Great solo work by Bob Hartman, killer drums by Louis Weaver, slap your face bass by one of the most under-rated bass players of our time, Mr. Ronnie Cates, sweet keys by another monster musician, John Lawry, and finally, the voice that sets the standard for rock artists, John Schlitt are all present and accounted for on this album.

The wierdest part of this album is the inclusion of the psuedo-doo-wap song "Hand on my Heart", though if you listen closely, Schlitt's voice starts to really get cranking around the bridge.

All of the other tunes rock big time, especially "Destiny", "Ready, Willing and Able", and "Dance".

Over-all a phenominal album. Taken into account by itself, without comparing it with "Beyond Belief", that is, this album is a commercial hard-rock masterpiece.

4-0 out of 5 stars It came, it saw, it ROCKED!!!
Not quite as consistent as "Beyond Belief." "Hand on My Heart" is very weak & I usually skip it - also, "Secret Weapon" and "Sight Unseen" sound rushed, as if the music had been written & the lyrics added on as a last-minute afterthought. However, these are minor quibbles.

A lot of Petra fans think this album is too heavy, but it actually sounds like the band really mean business & are giving it their all. "Unseen Power" has a real-ness, depth, honesty and out-and-out punch particularly missing from more recent Petra material.

A slight change of emphasis & sound from the "This Means War" "On Fire" and "Beyond Belief" albums. Out goes the similarity to Bon Jovi and the "80s hair rock" brigade, enter the pounding, heavy grooves typical of "Destiny," "Dance," "Who's On The Lord's Side," (gospel-meets-metal) and "Ready Willing and Able" (very bouncy but "Quo-phobics" or those allergic to denim or 12-bar rock beware, especially its opening riff!!!) Only joking, this and "Dance" are my favourite Petra songs to date.

Other nice touches include much deeper lyrics ("Hey World" talks about abortion & suicide) "I Need To Hear From You" is a guitar-heavy and over-produced ballad, but Petra perform it with real conviction. "In the Likeness of You" is a wonderful closer which departs from this typical 80s & early 90s "power-ballad" feel.

Difficult comparison to make between this and "Beyond Belief" -the head says choose "Beyond Belief" but the heart (and head-banging tendencies!) says I prefer "Unseen Power." ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Petra is back with cool modern praise & worship
The first thing that jumps out at me is John's vocal range; who would have ever thought he could pull this off. The upfront drums that seem to be lacking on most albums today are fresh and very cool.
The songs: There are six songs that I think really stand out on this album; "Send Revival" "Jesus Friend Of Sinners" "Better Is One Day" "The Noise We Make" (it's having to grow on me) and my two favorites on the album "Amazing Grace" and "How Long".
There a couple of songs "Prodigal's Song" and "You Satisfy" that really seem to be bland or not willing to go anywhere; They both have a good message, but they are just there, nothing more.
Overall I give it 4 out of 5 stars for the timely message, great song production, and it being current and I think fresh for this day and time in the music world. This band will continue to move us the way God intended. PETRA is back!

Grade: B+

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth checking out!
After nearly 30 years of music, you would think that Petra could rest on their laurels & take it easy! With their newest CD, that is certainly not the case! This album has something for old & new fans alike!

While this is not my favorite Petra album or favorite Petra Praise Album (this is their 3rd), it is definitely a GOOD effort! There are a number of REALLY good songs on this one, from the up-tempo (The Noise We Make) to the mid-ranges (Amazing Grace) & the softer ballads (Better Is One Day). While this is one of Petra's 3 "Praise" albums, they are as different sounding as one could imagine. My favorite is still their 1997 release, Petra Praise 2: We Need Jesus as it was a TRUE praise & worship album from start to finish.

Their first Praise album, Petra Praise: The Rock Cries Out, was unheard of at the time (1989) - the blending of traditional praise & worship with the uptempo of contemporary christian music. Starting with I Love The Lord, you knew this album was going to push the boundries, and it did. It had a vast mix of music from the aforementioned song to tradional praise, to the 50's do-op of "Friends, All in the Family of God".

This latest release has been coined as a "Modern Worship" album, and that is a title that seems to fit. There is a nice mix of music style in this album (though not to the same degree as Petra Praise: The Rock Cries Out). This album may have the better balance of songs musically. There are only a couple of songs which I knew of, the others are new to me. I'm not sure if taking this approach is positive or negative, but I do like the musical treatment given to all of the songs. The only songs that appear lacking are Meet With Me & The Prodigal's Son - they never seem to go anywhere, leaving you with a dry taste in your mouth.

The rest of the album is top notch production, though as I mentioned the song selection could have been better. This is their 2nd best praise album & overall is probably in the top 10 of their all-time albums - and when you have 19 studio albums, that is a nice feat. DEFINITELY check it out - you won't regret it! (...)

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best Christian Album Rock Genre CD EVER!
Petra and David and the Giants are the best Christian bands for a 70's 80's "Album rock" or "Arena rock" era sound. My daughter even likes Revival. They are also no doubt Christian, and don't use veiled lyrics. The Revival Cd gets constant play in my house. It has no weak spots. It is one of those CD's that just has all things happening. I love it. John Schlitt is awesome and his Shake Cd is great too. With the Revival CD and one of the David and the Giants Cd's I'm set for at least a week of music before I might want to change to one of their other CD's.

4-0 out of 5 stars Always Loved Petra!
Revival is a wonderful praise & worshp CD which I enjoyed immensely. Petra was THE pioneer for Christian Rock and they truly blazed the trail for the current genre.

I do agree with other reviewers that it would have been great to have all of Petra return to the fold for this one. But times change and I give them credit for trying to inject some "newness" into their music but still hold on to the personna we die-hard Petra fans know and love.

Let's face it though; we're all growing older. In the opening song, Revival, I did hear a slight aging in John's voice (sorry John), not that it made the song bad or anything.

If you like Christian Rock and P&W, this is definitely worth having in your Petra collection. I cannot say it is my favorite Petra CD (and I have just about all of them) but I enjoyed it a lot.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disjointed in parts, but still a major improvement....
Give Petra credit - they've far outlasted their contemporaries & have consistently proved adaptable to change.

That's not to say this is their best release. Although it is far better than Double Take, it shares some of its faults; songs like "Send Revival" and "How Long" have the same ridiculous production, with Stryper-esque power-ballad vocals screamed out over an acoustic backdrop. Also, the sound lacks originality (aping contemporary bands rather than setting a trend) & some original songs would have been nice, rather than covers.

Having said that, these weaknesses can at times be the album's strength - Petra pulls off a convincing impression of Sonic Flood (Oasis, Satisfy, Amazing Grace, Jesus Friend of Sinners.) "The Prodigal's Song" sounds like Delirious on a good day, also being distantly reminiscent of Radiohead.

Not forgetting that even though they're all over 50, these guys can still rock out. "The Noise We Make," and "We Want to See Jesus Lifted High" hark back to the band's halcyon days of the late 80s / early 90s. A pity that this approach sounds at odds with the more modern-sounding material, making the album feel slightly schizophrenic.

Mostly, the production is top-notch, and there are some class moments ("The Prodigal's Son" is my favourite track, and John Schlitt's vocals still sound as strong as ever (with appropriate production!).

Tips for future releases (intended to be constructive, from a long-time fan & fellow musician who appreciates Petra still being around).

(1) Don't have one foot in both camps - either get the 80s line-up back together (from This Means War, On Fire, Beyond Belief etc) or change the sound completely.

(2) Producers - you have at times done an excellent job with this release, but in future use your ears to judge the sound! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Joyful, Peaceful Comtemplation of God the Father
John Michael Talbot is at his best when writing and singing quiet, meditative guitar-based songs. Because so many of his songs are fashioned from Scripture, they are unfettered by denominational confines, and can be enjoyed ecumenically.

Some of the songs, like "God Alone is Enough," are inspired by early Christians. "God Alone..." is attributed to be based on the writing of Teresa of Avila, a Sixteenth Century Spanish nun. Largely, though, the songs are derivations and paraphrasings of Psalms.

Any who enjoyed JMT's 1989 double CD "Quiet Side" will find "Simple Heart" to be a perfect transition. After reading Scripture, or while walking, this can help facilitate meditation and focus on God. When grieving a loss in my life, I found in "Simple Heart," and in "Quiet Side" great solace and a reminder of the goodness and faithfulness of God.

It is good rest. This isn't easy listening or light new age, nor is it background music. Despite the peaceful nature of JMT's voice and style, I believe it was produced to be interactive, to provide spiritual direction.

I fully recommend "Simple Heart" by John Michael Talbot. Companion books worth reading with a similar tone are those by Henri Nouwen, Richard J Foster, Brennan Manning and Oswald Chambers.

5-0 out of 5 stars depth and truth
I have several Talbot CDs and have listened to him for about 11 years. Besides The Hiding Place, this is the most profoundly simple and moving CD I've heard from him or anyone. Particularly the song "God Alone is Enough." The lyrics meaningfully state: "God alone is enough. Whoever has God, wants for nothing at all." These lyrics have affected me many times and the music is also very fitting. I recommend this CD without hesitation for anyone seeking a simple and true musical ministry experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars wonderful but sad
This is a beautiful album of song and hope. The saddest thing was the composer's despair (based on the inner cover) over the culture and the world in which he lives. I am a pastor. I have many occasions to engage the sorrows and troubles of the world, terrible suffering, endless senselessness, but there is also so much in life to celebrate and in which to rejoice! I hope that this gifted composer will also find that past his blessed sorrow and longing comes laughter and delight. It is those things that fuels power for justice and hope - for change!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simplicity and Harmony
It is with great pleasure that I complete my collection of the music of John Michael Talbot and I confess that this return to the old musical style of John is much appreciated. The music is simple, full of harmony, dressing beautifuly the living word of the scriptures. It is exactly what a christian must listen today. In this confused word, the music is again the breath of the Holy Spirit of God that feels anew our simple heart. ... Read more

Finally, an over-the-top live album intended to satisfy all of you MxPx fans out there. After ultra-high-energy studio affairs like Life in General and Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo, At the Show is chock full of live versions of MxPx classics such as "I'm OK, You're OK," "Chick Magnet," and "The Downfall of Western Civilization." Produced by the Descendents' Bill Stevenson, this Washington-based trio blaze through 23 (count 'em) uptempo anthems that, while still derivative of faux Brit punks like Green Day, never fail to deliver the punk-rock goods. With a moderately rousing and extremely accurate version of the Ramones's "KKK," MxPx show that they've certainly done their punk homework, but you have to be a dedicated follower to find this collection absolutely essential. --Mitch Meyers ... 5-0 out of 5 stars this might as well be a greatest hits album
I am impressed. The entire CD is listenable, MXPX is great live, Mike is amazing. With a lot of their songs off of TEENAGE POLITICS and SLOWLY GOING THE WAY OF THE BUFFALO this is a very punky CD. A lot more punk than their newer THE EVER PASSING MOMENT, which came afterwards. Twenty three tracks... that says it's a punk album right there. I love their cover of the Ramones' "KKK Took My Baby Away." Fast and great for MXPX. And the CD overall: amazing, packed with fast paced punky songs. Opens up with a fast punky song, ends with, (of course they had to get this one in there), "Punk Rawk Show." The crowd doesn't take away from the band. This right here might as well be twenty three tracks of MXPX's greatest songs.

4-0 out of 5 stars MxPx Compilations Rock
I don't have any of MxPx's CDs with new music, but I have both compilations( At the Show and Ten Years and Running). They are both awesome. This CD starts as it ends:with one of their most popular songs(start-Tomorrow's Another Day,end-Punk Rawk Show). It follows with two fast-paced songs which I consider as some of the best on the CD. There are, however, three things which detract from this CD. First, if you have their other CDs, the only new song will be the cover of the Ramones' KKK Took My Baby Away(where they improved on the original).Second:Chick Magnet.Everyone I talk to that listens to MxPx seems to love that song(probably why it is on the CD), but I don't know why it is so popular.Third, there is a stretch in the middle with about three straight shouting songs.I really don't care for shouting songs and don't think MxPx does them very well. Despite the negatives, the 18 or 19 quality tracks make this CD a very good buy, especially if you don't own their other CDs. This is very good work from one of the few Christian punk bands out there(and the best Christian band out there)and one of the better punk bands out there, Christian or secular.
Here are what I consider as the best songs on the CD:
5.Sometimes You Have to Ask Yourself
4.KKK Took My Baby Away
3.Under Lock and Key
2.Andrea

INVITATION TO UNDERSTANDING

5-0 out of 5 stars Good live CD!!!
Of course nothing beats actually seeing them live, but the recording is decent. It doesn't really capture their power though. You see MXPX does their best with their older stuff, and if it were up to me they'd make one that would top Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo or Pokinatcha, but sadly they decided to go and produce boring pop-punk stuff, but this CD will remind you of what they use to be. A definate must buy!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars MXPX
Well i am a punk rock fan. so in that respect i have yet to be disappointed with this cd. however, i could have sworn that i bought this cd in the "Christian" rock section. much to my dismay it mentions the word God only ONCE on the entire album. to that extent i have been severly disappointed in this cd. after all i purchased it on the grounds that i would be listening to a Christian punk rock band. beyond that i truly enjoy the gritty sound of this cd. furthermore it offers clean listening that i can listen to with other Christians without offending them.(something that would be highly impossible with the per se, the clash, Ramones, or SP) i would recommend that you not buy this cd unless you are already a punk rock fan. if you happen to be new to the genre i would recommend that you steer clear.

5-0 out of 5 stars MXPX rocks live!!!!
For all of you seasoned mxpx fans out there, this CD is what you are looking for! It has some of the best mxpx tracks around, and it's all of there faster songs. Mike Hererra (lead singer) mixes perfect bass riffs with and incredible song writing talent. Some bands trade speed for lyrical qaulity. For mxpx, however, that is not the case. Another treat for you true punk fans is the cover of the ramones "KKK took my baby away" which suits the band well and I prefer this version to the original! It has all of there greatest songs : Party, My House, Be there, I'm OK you're OK, and middlname! If you are looking to get in on mxpx, this cd is a perfect representation of what mxpx is all about, and for you seasoned listeners of mxpx, this is a blessing to your collection. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Warm Place
Gary's album Shelter is incredible. It is like coming home to a warm place. The name Shelter should describe it well. It is that feeling when God is there to protect you. To provide you that safe place. Gary's music moves your soul and takes you to the foot of God's throne.

5-0 out of 5 stars You should own this cd by now but...
This is a great cd. Gary Chapman does the BEST rendition of "Great is Thy Faithfulness" I have ever heard and I will ever hear. HONESTLY! It is amazing. HE also has a song I like called, "Don't Be A Stranger." It has a great message. I also loved his song of "One of Two." It is a consistenty good album. Definitely worth the money!
