Clay Crosse nabbed the New Artist of the Year Dove Award in 1995 and since then the talented male vocalist has charted enough No. 1 Christian inspirational singles to put together a nice little sampler. Crosse can capably perform in several styles as evidenced by his cover of Andraé Crouch's gospel-great "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power," the funk-laden "Saving the World," and the beautiful balladry in "My Place Is with You." More than a powerful voice, Crosse treats each number with an equal measure of emotion and obviously leaves little behind in the studio. The collection also includes two new tracks, leading with "I Will Follow Christ," a powerhouse testimonial featuring the high-octane trio of Crosse, BeBe Winans, and Bob Carlisle. --Michael Lyttle ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Clay Crosse is my all-time favorite Contemporary Christian singer. He has an amazing voice and an awesome testimony, and he has inspired me so much, especially with the story behind his latest CD "A Different Man".... I'm sure you'll be touched like I was. "I Surrender All" is one of Clay's best CDs. The compilation has all of the best songs from his other CDs, and they're all awesome!!! I love his music!!! I would recommend this CD to anyone and everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars All of Clay's BEST on one CD
I lay claim to being Clay Crosse's biggest fan. His song "He Walked a Mile" touched me so...that I accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. My favorite song on this CD is "I Will Follow Christ" with Bob Carlisle and BeBe Winans..it is a soul wrenching song that brings tears to my eyes. Clay's voice stands out on this song. It is good to have all the best Clay Crosse songs on one CD...A truly wonderful music experience...

5-0 out of 5 stars Already Ready? Yes!
When I first heard this CD was coming out with so few releases under his belt, I was surprised. I didn't figure they'd have enough material already. But when I saw the tracks, I knew I was wrong.

Of course the title song was included, probably his best known song but a convicting song of commitment. But the songs range in style from ballad ("My Place is with You") to adult contemporary ("Midnight Cry") and light pop ("His Love's Comin' Over Me"). Then there are the fun songs "Saving the World" and "I Call Your Name." Yet Clay manages to handle each new style with ease.

Unfortunately, Clay has a small following for such a big talent. Don't be left out. Get this collection and enjoy his rich vocals and some great songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good album
I think Clay Crosse is a very good Contemporary Christian music artist. I liked all the songs. He's definitely an artist I'll be listening to more. As a Christian, also, some or most of the the songs were meaningful. If you haven't, I would recommend checking Clay out!

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
I have to admit to not being very familiar with Clay Crosse, but when I picked up this CD, I was stunned to hear favorites from the radio that I didn't know the titles of. All of the songs are very inspirational and upbeat -- the kind that really get you pumped and recharged. You won't regret having this in your collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Classic
I first heard Timeline when a local DJ played the entire album on the air. He prefaced the feature by stating that Livgren's latest offering was "interesting." That was an understatement. Timeline moves beyond amorphous spiritual imagery to a valiant and articulate declaration of faith. While Livgren's evangelical fervor pervades the CD, Timeline avoids being trite or doctrinaire. Musically the CD is somewhat of a departure from Kansas. The seventies arena sound guitar riffs have given way to a more refined and nuanced approach. Lyrically Livgren has shifted from his previous spiritual search to a resolute Christ Credo. The first two cuts "Timeline" and "Tonight" explore the dynamics of those on the threshold of conversion, though from different angles. My personal favorite is the deeply moving and upbeat "High on a Hill," an evangelistic appeal for the spiritual seeker: "Look on high/to a hill/to a place where time stood still." The final cut is the sober "Welcome to the War," an edgy song with more than a hint of polemicism. While the stark tenor of this cut may offend some listeners, one must admire Livgren's courage for bucking the almighty tide of postmodernity. By any standards Timeline is a classic and is still great to listen to. However, if one compares his work with that of his CCM counterparts, Timeline is sui generis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb
One of my all-time favorites. No other artist than Kansas with Kerry Livgren ever brought Christianity to millions of music fans without their knowing that it was the Message they were listening to. With AD/Time Line, Kerry Livgren continues to help us understand the positive power of God, and the negative influence a lack of faith has on our daily lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great album by an outstanding song writer.
This album takes a look at life from many directions. High on a Hill depicts life where it began, the crusifiction of our Savior. At the other end of the spectrum Beyond the Pale gives and outstanding view of life after the first death where all is at peace and to quote the song "the lion lies down with the lamb." The rest of the album hits various topics between the two. This is one to experience.

2-0 out of 5 stars A different direction for Kerry Livgren
The music on this album sounds nothing like Kansas, nor for that matter like Kerry Livgren's first solo album _Seeds of Change_. _Time Line_ is pure 80's rock a-la bands like Survivor and Night Ranger, with little of the progressive rock direction that Livgren brought to Kansas during the 70's. While some of the music here is pretty good, it isn't great; the symphonic element that made Kansas such a great band is gone. The lyrics here are also problematic. Unlike the Christian lyrics on _Seeds of Change_, which reflect mainstream Christianity and the excitement of a new convert in a positive, uplifting manner, the lyrics here are of a more negative, oppositional nature and veer into Christian Reconstructionist sentiments all too often, with jabs taken at the "secular" media and the New Age movement. The vocals on this album are performed by Warren Ham, who was the vocalist on the last two albums by the early 70's band Bloodrock.

5-0 out of 5 stars A remarkable album from a remarkable artist!
Livgren and his band AD produce a remarkable sound on this and their other albums. With 2 different and superb vocalists to write for and co-write with, he shows the not only the versatility that made Kansas such a huge sucess, but has even grown beyond the Kansas sound into more textures and styles, without losing some of his wonderful keyboard and guitar signatures. The depth of the lyrics looking at life and God only add to the enjoyment of a unique album experience. Bought it on vinyl years ago, still one of my all time favorites. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars These dudes rock...great CD
Sanctus Reals say it Loud Cd is a great addition to any music collection..I have had the pleasure of hanging out with these guys for years and its awesome to see them tearing it up out there...This CD has near perfect production...There are soo many guitar tracks on this Cd you never know what Chris and Matt and gonna do next. The bass and drums are also jumping out at you. If anyone picked up there last Indie CD you may notice this Cd is way more Raw and harder edged than the last ...alot of that goes to Pete Stewart..and to Chris Rohman getting turned into a full blown Gibson Guitar guy.......These dudes rock I love em...This Cd is awesome

5-0 out of 5 stars Who can't like this?
Simply put these guys are awesome. They combine pounding drums with loud bass and blaring guitars. The guitars are crunchy and played really well by Chris Rahman. Matt Hammitt's vocals are passionate and perfect for the type of music that surrounds him. "Say it loud" and "Audience of One" really portray their guitar skills. Mark, and Steve make up a wonderful rhythm section that is not to be underestimated. These guys are going to be a force to be reckoned with. If you like honest lyrics with blasting music, and passionate vocals then you will love these guys. These guys need to be shared around the world to be enjoyed. I will get to see them this spring at Ichthus, and I can't wait. They'll be fun to see live. Anyway this cd is a wonderful debut, and try picking it up sometime. You'll be glad that you did. God bless.

4-0 out of 5 stars There's only one thing wrong....the lyrics
This cd deserves to be listened to: it has great, hard harmonic rock, a terrific singer, great solos, etc.; the only thing really wrong with this cd is that the lyrics are confusing, hard-to-follow, have little clarity, and don't send much of a message (with the exception of the last song and "inspiration"). I'm not saying all the songs are great, but the ones that are are at least four stars out of five. I'm also not saying that the lyrics are necessarily bad, I just have a hard time interpretting their meaning or purpose. Although, the music is really good, and you should buy the cd just for that reason. Besides, the lyrics don't by any stretch send a bad message, just a hard-to-perceive one. Well, I hope this review was helpful--good shopping.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Christian lyrics and awesome music
This cd is just all around awesome, great sound and a great message. The song lyrics are deep and the music rocks, not to hard (no screaming or anything....). I have a friend who has spent some time with the guys and he says they are all solid christians who practice what they preach. Easily the best album i have ever bought. i encourage anyone to buy this cd, no matter what age, and i am looking forward to their new cd "fight the tide" coming out one june 15 2004. anybody who would give this album one star obviously has no taste in music.

5-0 out of 5 stars MxPx ROCKS
This album is BY FAR the BEST MxPx album. Everything after has progressively become more and more pop-ish, with slower songs and not as much fast punk. The only cd that comes close to this quality is Let It Happen, and that is only on a few tracks. The lyrics on this album are the best, and so is the music...if you are looking for a GREAT punk album, buy POKINATCHA...you won't be disappointed!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars MXPX's best CD
That's right, you heard me, this is their BEST CD and it's only got two stars. First of all, only Yuri has real musical talent...the drumming is good, but the bass is stuff I could play(I sort of play bass...) and the guitar is too easy. A lot of the songs also represent how wimpy and soft MXPX is with whiny lyrics in meaning and tone of voice. I do give credit to Mike though...playing bass and singing adds a little to his talent.

The pros now...this CD has about seven good songs of the 21, some of the real fast stuff like Weak, Another Song About TV, The Aspect, and Dead End make this worth some downloads, but in general, the CD is either slow of the riffs are too corny and end up hurting my ears. But I do have to wonder...why did they lose Andy? They need that guy back. With this CD and his sound, the CD has really bad recording, and I like that. I would still hardly call this punk...this is punk for babies, just coming out of the mainstream. I was there once, I used to like those dorky bands like Limp Bizkit and Korn, and this was one of the first bands I started listening to out of mainstream. Unfortuneately, the mellowness got to me too much and I stopped liking them, but I have moved deeper into punk. Go for stuff like Bad Religion, Black Flag, and Propaghandi for true punk. Please people...

5-0 out of 5 stars MxPx at its best !!!!!!
This is the best MxPx cd there is. This is true punk rock at its best! This is the only MxPx cd that doesn't have any pop-punk in it.So if you like punk rock, get this cd. You won't be disappointed. This is a 5 star cd, hands down!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Go out and buy this CD now.
Being one of MXPX's early attempts, they do well. They should've kept this sound instead of opting to go with the poppy punk sound. That was a let down. They do well here though. Pretty much all of the songs are good. Hopefully future CD's will sound more like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best MxPx CD of Them All
this is the best MxPx cd of all of them. I own all 11 of MxPx's cd and I'm always listening to this one. I also like Teenage Politics and their Live At The Show cd. So if your a long time MxPx fan and don't have this cd yet or if your just starting to listen to them, forget the new stuff and come back and listen to the best sound MxPx will ever have(unless they go back to real punk like this cd is). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Petra!! Great guitar work!!!!
[MY RATING: 4 1/2 STARS]

This was the album that finally brought this pioneering Christian rock band to a level of musical and lyrical sophistication that could compete with the best of the secular rock bands. Many listeners will be familiar with some of these songs from later hits compilations such as "Rock Block," but you should really get the original album to hear the songs in context with lesser-known songs.

"The Coloring Song" opens the album with a beautiful and poetic devotion, which makes allusions and allegories inspired by colors. The vocals, organ, acoustic guitar, and mixolydian mode give the song a refreshing, folklike flavor.

The next two tracks "Chameleon" and "Angel of Light" showcase some outstanding electric guitar work and fierce vocal performances by Greg X Volz, whose voice has a more gospel / soul orientation than his successor John Schlitt, who has more of a hard-rock voice.

"Killing My Old Man" was a controversial song because on the surface, many people took it as a horrible ode to patricide (instead of a song about the biblical admonition to crucify our old selves), and Petra's label actually didn't let them release this song for a few albums. It's a catchy tune.

"Without Him We can do Nothing" closes out side one with a powerful, rocking praise number. Exhortation at its best.

Side 2 is a little weaker than Side 1. "I Can Be Friends with You," and "Father of Lights" are okay, but nothing special. The same could be said of the title cut, although its lyrics are very encouraging and positive, and the guitar hook is admirable.

"[Too Late] For Annie" is a well-known song about a girl who commits suicide because she feels that nobody cares (the message being that Christians could have told her that Jesus loves her, cares for her, etc., and her untimely death could have been averted.) Whether or not people liked the song or its message, it challenged listeners- and with unsentimental realism- in a way that CCM had seldom done before or since.

"Praise Ye the Lord" closes out the side with the same rock-solid praise of "Without Him We Can Do Nothing."

I heartily recommend this album to any fan of Petra (or Kansas, or 70s progressive rock for that matter). You'll enjoy it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Phil Keaggy Makes The Album...
The album is pretty good, and I'm glad to see these talented artists get together to celebrate this man's music, which has been so influential, even to Paul McCartney. Phil Keaggy, the greatest guitarist on the planet, compliments Brian Wilson's song with his own brilliance, yet stays true to the song without deviating too much from it. Kevin Max is a fantastic singer, but needs to find a style that better suits his talents. I wished I sang like him, but his talents are being wasted in his attempts to stay with the popular culture's current trends of hip-hop and R&B. Sixpence deliver the second best performance on the CD. If You're a fan of these artists, I'd recommend it. If You're a fan of Brian Wilson, You may be rightfully hesitant to invest money in a CD that may frustrate You, as covers are not always true to or nearly as good as the originals that You Love so dear...

3-0 out of 5 stars I Love It, but...
Admission: I am a DIE HARD Brian Wilson fan, and I love the concept of this album. That said, I'm not particularly crazy about most of it. For me, the absolute highlight is "Your Imagination" (5 stars); it's very creative and brings a different/fresh light to a great tune. Although I'm not as crazy about it, "Help Me, Rhonda" also sheds new light on a great tune - I give him creativity points. Unfortunately, for me, the rest of the tunes are nicely done re-makes, with little to add. Granted, the original versions of these songs were so well produced, it's hard to find new things to say. If you like these artists and you would like to hear their voices singing Brian's tunes, you will love this. If you are expecting imaginative takes on his tunes, you will be largely disappointed. I personally think this would have made a better single-CD set. 'Don't mean to be sour (I'm not), 'just want you to know what you're getting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Beach Boys Tribute
I am not a fan of tributes. Too often, the album is nothing more than an attempt to piggyback on an established artist's fame and sell a record company's own artists in the process. In addition, they so often fall flat as either mediocre attempts to duplicate the originals OR musically so out of kilter as to be disrespectful to the originals. This tribute avoids both extremes.

This is stunning record, often bettering Brian Wilson's originals. For example, the shiny power-pop rendition of "I Know There's An Answer" from Pet Sounds, melding the unused "Hang On To Your Ego" lyrics, is absolutely joyous. Aaron Sprinkle -- practically a one-man producer/band, nails the song, making it contemporary and yet still respectful to the original.

And this is how it goes throughout the 17 tracks included here. Phil Keaggy absolutely nails "Good Vibrations", and while it doesn't veer from the original formula, he meets the challenge of a daunting song well. Kate Campbell does a beautiful folk-country rendition of "Add Some Music To Your Day." And while there's not a single surfing song here, there's much from Pet Sounds and the late 60's/early 70's Beach Boys records, as well as covers of three songs from Brian Wilson's solo records, and frankly, these versions -- by folkie Tom Prasada-Rao ("Your Imagination"), Christian music's Randy Stonehill ("Love and Mercy"), and folk-pop singer-songwriter Jane Kelly Williams ("Lay Down Burden") -- are (dare I say it??) superior to Wilson's own renditions. And I must say that D.C. Talk's Kevin Max (in arguably the most creative interpretation) brings U2 to "Help Me Rhonda!" Can you imagine? No, you can't, but believe me, it works.

The producers even toss in a campy version of the silly "Vegetables" from the aborted "Smile" album for hard-core fans (though that's one I generally skip over). From power-pop to folk-pop there's a beautiful consistency to this record.

Bottom line: If you are a purist who cannot abide the Beach Boy originals being tampered with, go buy Beach Boys Classics because you won't be able to tolerate this record or any tribute for that matter. But if you want to hear a contemporary album that demontrates the continuing vitality of these songs in a new era, get this record. You'll be glad you did. The packaging, the 24 page color booklet with loving tributes to Brian Wilson by the artists, and the beautiful cover (inspired, of course, by the original Smile cover), are icing on the cake. This is my pick for the album of the Summer of 2002! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Christian Hardcore
This was a pretty enjoyable cd, even if the lyrics did get a little preachy sometimes, i guess thats understandable from an overtly christian band....but anyway, onto the tracks.

1. "Lies of Serpents..." - pretty good opener, nice riffs but a little short..

2. "To Think of You..." - a heartfelt and actually somewhat beautiful lament over a friends death, really melodic guitars and a great chorus even though some of the riffs seemed a little erratic

3. "A Fall Farewell" - another song about a dead friend.... heavy, insance vocals as usual, one of my favorites

4. "March" - this track pretty much just plods along with a few slow riffs and extremely religious lyrics, should have been shorter

5. "Ember" - another favorite, a few fast catchy riffs and some nice melodic leads...a little short

6. "Ravage Ritual" - weird voice-over intro, the song isn't bad but the lyrics are just so preachy its hard to enjoy it

7. "Fifteen Rhema" - an ok track but it seems a little standard for zao, the riffs sound almost random sometimes

8. "For a Fair Desire" - some great leads and rhythm guitars, one of the album's better tracks

9. "The Latter Rain" - beginning is a little slow but it picks up...an ok track

10. "Violet" - a pretty instrumental piano track but still a little pointless, and it doesn't really fit with the rest of the cd

Overall not a bad cd, standout tracks are "Lies of Serpents A River of Tears", "A Fall Farewell" and "To Think of You is to Treasure an Absent Memory"

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best hardcore albums..ever
well..it's not just that it pretty much fits into the category of "hardcore" music..this album is incredible. first of all, excellent musicianship..heavy guitars, melodic guitars, and (drummer) jesse smith not only delivers quick kicks but has incredible style that really augments..everything. also, beatifully crafted lyrics (yes, they are a christian band, no, i am not a christian, but yes, i can enjoy the lyrics because they are heartfelt, emotional, and not preachy or arrogant). dan has one of the most unique voices in the genre (he left zao after self-titled but he's back and so is russ!!). it took a while to get used to, but he's now one of my favorite hardcore vocalists. another thing about this record is..despite the growls, hellfire artwork, and occasionally dark riffs..it's really warm. listen to "to think of you is to treasure an absent memory" "ember" and "violet" (ok, it's repetitive. so what? it's emotional and a perfect way to end the cd) and you'll see what i mean. also, the "latter rain" has a dramatic, almost spine-tingling buildup at the end (along the lines of hopesfall's later "the broken heart of a traitor"). this cd is by far their best offering, but be sure to check out all their other releases with dan, and their live show is always good fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for Christian hardcore collection
"Where blood and fire bring rest" is one of those cd's where you're proud to be a hardcore fan. Dan's vocals are the best in the business. They may sound terrifying but that's because it's scaring demons away left and right. the guitar riffs and drum beats are pulse-pounding and intense to say the least. as far as lyrics go; there's rarely a hardcore album out there that glorifies Jesus as well as this. From the slow opening of the first song to the rhythmic heartbeat of the last, "Blood and fire" is one of those cd's that defines your collection. Even if you're not a fan of Christian hardcore, you owe it to yourself to see what the Christian culture is capable of.

5-0 out of 5 stars WHOO
the record that set the standard for this style of music. vocals are cool, bass. drums etc are all good here. This one got people talking and made some serious fans QUICK! This is THE record to start with if youre a new Zao fan etc or are just trying to get into the metalcore scene.

5-0 out of 5 stars WHOA DOC, THIS IS HEAVY
Each song is very very good. My favorite tracks are 2 and 5 and 9. This is Dan's first shot at Zao and he really outshines Shawn (Splinter shards...) I think. Shawn was good. But I think Dan really has a terrific voice. About the album- melodic at times, but not too melodic, and crunchy. Many think this is Zao's best. I agree, that or Liberate te ex inferis... worth listening to a thousand times over. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars God Bless the KRY
I just recenly heard this CD "Only" at Evergreen Community church and loved it right away.Awesome music

5-0 out of 5 stars You will enjoy this CD
My first exposure to The Kry came from hearing "He Won't Let You Go" on the radio.A few months later, I heard "Everywhere."I was hooked.

"You" is the first The Kry CD I purchased even though it is the second studio effort by the band.In my opinion, it also is the most "radio friendly" collection of songs. The first CD ("I'll Find You There") featured more aggressive guitar work and up-tempo songs while this one toned down the edge and speed somewhat. You will hear a little more piano and strings, but fear not, The Kry still rock on this album

The strength of this CD rests on the hearts and the integrity of the band. The lyrics are honest and pure in motive. The music flows with pop melodies that are easy to sing along with while listening.I find myself wondering why I do not hear more of their songs on the radio.

As with all "The Kry" CD's, this one blends a good mixture of rock tunes, acustic pop, and stirring ballads. It is possible you will like what you are hearing during the first listen.

I HEARD THE SONG 'HE WILL NEVER LET YOU GO ON A TV PROGRAM, IT TOUCHED MY HEART DEEPLY, IT WAS IF GOD WAS SPEAKING TO ME PERSONALLY THROUGH THIS SONG, YEARS LATER WHEN MY FATHER PASSED AWAY I PLAYED IT HIS FUNERAL, MYNON CHRISTIANFAMILY LIKED IT AND ASKED ME TO RECORD IT FOR THEM.AS WELLAS MY YOUNG NEICES, IT IS ENCOURING AND SENTS HOPE! AND REASSURANCE,WHEN WEGIVE GOD OUR HEART HE WILL NEVER LET US GO, AND IS ALWAYS BY OUR SIDE, EVENWHEN U DIE HE IS ALWAYS BY YOUR SIDE, GIVE ALL YOUR HEART IS ALL YOU GOTTADO! 5-0 out of 5 stars The best kept secret in Christian music
There's many good Christian musicians out there today, and most of them annually make Christian radio playlists, or the W.O.W. cd or the Dove Awards, but the Kry is one of those bands that lies in the shadow of thatpublicity, even though their music is among the best you will hearanywhere. "You" is the ultimate example of that, it is one of thegreatest cd's I own, and I'm always amazed how many people have never heardof it. There are songs on this album like "Take My Hand","He Won't Let You Go" and "You're All I Need" thatstrike such a chord in you that they become part of your own prayer as youseek the Lord, and a comfort to you when you're down. But there's also justsome great rock tunes, like "Can't Stop Thinking About You","Keep On Running", and you gotta check out "I KnowEverything About You", because you'll love it. I recommend this albumto anyone, and I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by it. Check itout, you'll be glad you're in on the best kept secret in Christian music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five stars aren't enough
Anything from PfR has a touch of greatness. They have the uncanny ability to make beautiful, catchy, touching songs, never repeating themselves, never a dull moment. This CD can never attempt to show the complete spectrum of each PfR CD ("Pray for Rain", "Goldie's Last Day", "Great Lengths", and "Them"), but it does give you a good taste of their outstanding musical ability and creativity. The Late Great PfR also includes 3 (actually 4) new tracks. The 3 listed on the album are "Name" (rock), "Forever" (soft & powerful), and "Fare Thee Well" (a touching farewell). Also included is a bonus track, carefully hidden at the end of the album. (you'll know it when you find it, just let the CD play after track 16, or go to Track 17 and rewind a bit) This one was just for fun.

If you are a die-hard PfR Fan, this is a must have. If you haven't heard them before and want to get an idea what their music sounds like, at least listen to a demo of this disc. Also consider their other 4 wonderful projects.

Joel, Pat, Mark, if you guys are reading this, Thanks for your last concert in Brainerd. It meant a lot! We love you guys! God bless.

5-0 out of 5 stars PFR is one of the best examples of modern Christian Music
In this compilation, PFR gives listeners a glimpse of the past five years of PFR. And songs from every album are taken (with some slight alterations on Pray for Rain and Do You Want To Know Love).

While some songs, like Name and Pour Me Out just plain rock, others, like The Love I Know, Wait For The Sun, and Forever are beautiful in both lyrics and song. Many have shared stories of going through a hard time in relationships, then only to hear The Love I Know. The lyrics can be powerful.

The Music is varied from Hard Rock to country (the last song, not listed on CD). And It closes with the retrospect, Fare Thee Well.

Of the 17 tracks, 3 are new. 2 are from Pray For Rain (1992), 5 are from Goldie's Last Day (1994), 4 are from Great Lengths (1995), and 2 are from Them (1996).

5-0 out of 5 stars Just the best
For anyone who likes decent Christian rock, PFR is hard to beat, and this is a great album. I have listened to it to the death and still love it. There are a lot of songs on the album, ranging from ballads to harder rock. I first got into PFR from the song, 'Wonder Why', wich is on this album. Great lyrics too.

5-0 out of 5 stars How ironic
My two favorite bands of all time, PFR and Crowded House, announced their respective break-ups only months apart. Then, in reading a bio of bass player Patrick Andrew, I discover that "Woodface" by Crowded House is one of his favorite albums ever. What do the bands have in common? Inspired songwriting, infectious melodies and an ability to enjoy what they do and not take it way too seriously. Neither band ever got their dues, but, judging from the kind of guys they are, I doubt any of them ever really cared. Like Crowded House's greatest hits CD, PFR's CD sums up a great, great career.

why did they have to split up im still crying to this day these guys where the first guys to keep listening to christain music then after that i got into a new christain band and they splt up so i was sitting here like mabe its me (lol) man im really gonna miss these guys all there songs where good they had a nice soft sound these are the guys i will miss the most (blisters hurt) ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I Ain't Looking Anymore...
Jun 19, 2004.

Mid seventies was the year of break through for canadian group Prism, offering the seeds of their sound: A mixture of hard-prog-pop (with Horn gimmicks from time to time). A repetitive formula that began to grow in 1978 with See Forever Eyes, and reached the peak of its maturity with the album Armageddon in 1979.

In 1977, Prism was formed by Ron Tabak(RIP)/Lead vocals; Lindsay Mitchell/Lead Guitar & vocals; Tom Lavin/ Rhythm guitar & vocals; John Hall/Keyboards & vocals; Ab Bryant/Bass; Rodney Higgs/Drums & keyboards; and Prism hornisection was Tom Keenlyside & Bruce Fairbairn(RIP). All songs were composed by Rodney Higgs who helped to create the music formula; just I Ain't Looking Anymore was composed by Lindsay Mitchell and Freewill by T. Lavin. This record shows a lack of creativity, maybe by the presence of Higgs, Lavin, Bryant who walked out for the See Forever Eyes Album. Aparently after this, the rest of the group had enough freedom to develop the music style of the band.

The Top songs of this album are: Spaceship Superstar, Open Soul Surgery, It's Over, Vladivostok and I Ain't Looking Anymore. A weak stand for a Rock but a good beginning for a Roll...a recommended album for any kind of Rock listeners. Outside there, I ain't looking anymore to tell...Good luck! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars God's Word shines brightly
The Smalltown Poets have created a masterpiece in their sophomore CD, "Listen Closely," as it has become my favorite album, and made them easily my favorite band. Their lyrics are so God-centered, it is impossible to miss the point. These guys are on fire for God! The spiritual, thought-provoking lyrics, together with the wonderful pop music touches make this a very original CD, and one which you will not grow tired of. Every song on the album deserves to be a radio hit, and they each could be if time allowed every last song to be played on the radio before the next album is released. Even more amazing than the fact that all twelve songs are so great is the fact that each of them come together to form a true album, they fit together as if they were all pieces of a puzzle, right with each other. Naming favorites is very hard, and it seems unfair to those which are not listed, but with careful thought it is possible to pick out those which stand out even above the rest. One of the most brilliant songs I have ever heard is "There Is Only You". Listening to this song, I find it hard to know whether I should sing along to the inspiring Christian lyrics, or kneel down and pray on the spot. Knowing that we all struggle at times with not allowing God to be the only one in our lives, this song has special meaning, reminding me to always let God be first. Another one of the greatest songs I know is "Hold It Up To The Light". This song clearly states that when we have a decision, we should hold it up to the Light, and trust our Lord to bless the decision that we make through faith in Him. Incredibly inspiring, you could not ask for any more from lyrics. Musically, this is one of the most soothing songs, its music is a perfect fit with the lyrics of trusting and relying on God through faith. There are many more songs which are so great, it is impossible to describe all of them. A few more of my personal favorites are: "The Gospel Is Peace," "Call Me Christian," "Long, Long Way," and "Anything Genuine". I encourage you to buy this album, and hear how great the songs I have talked about are, and find out more about the other songs, because they are definitely worthy of attention as well! If you like Christian music at all, do yourself a favor and buy this wonderful album by the Smalltown Poets. Incredible Christ-centered lyrics which cause great inspiration, along with melodic pop/rock music will beg you to "Listen Closely" time and time again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another gem from Smalltown Poets
"Listen Closely" follows the Smalltown Poets debut album closely in in so many ways. Not only did it come out a little over a year later, it also sounds much like the first CD stylisticly.

"Call Me Christian" sets the tone for the album much like "Prophet, Priest, and King" did for the debut CD. Other strong songs on "Listen Closely" include "Anything Genuine," "Gloria," and "Hold it up to The Light" (just to name three).

For those of you who know a little music trivia, "Call Me Christian" has been released before from a little known band named Villanelle. In fact, if you ever get your hands on Villanelle's "Orange Peels and Pinwheels" CD, check and see how many members of that band found their way into Smalltown Poets. You may also notice that Villanelle associated closely with The Waiting on their "Blue Belly Sky" project (check on the back of the CD flyer where it says, "Much Love and Gratitude").

Okay, let's get back on the subject here. I, for one, am glad to see the Smalltown Poets continue to release music. They are definitely one of the best pop/rock bands around right now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolute Best CD in my collection!
This CD is amazing. Every song on this album is great. It's not just one good song and then 10 other lousy songs. Right up to the last track, every minute is inspiring and energizing. There's a hidden track in the middle where a small child sings the refrain of "Jesus loves me". It is a reminder to us all to remain child-like in our exploration of the world. Peace!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!!
Listen Closely is a great CD with a great message. In my opinion, the best two songs on it are 48 states and hold it up to the light.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anything Genuine
This CD was so good! I had never really heard of Smalltown Poets until my brother bought one of those CD mixes with _48 States_ on it. After that, we just had to have the new album! These songs contain great messages that just inspire you to be all-out and genuine for Christ! ... Read more

Good news for 'Boys fans. Two years after Take Me to Your Leader comes Step Up to the Microphone. Indeed a step up, the contemporary Christian group's seventh updates and augments their sound with splashes of Britpop (albeit after the wave has crested) and a more current, modern rock feel. There are fewer bouncy dance-pop tunes here, but rhythm has by no means been forsaken for accent. What they have gained is a passion for the irresistible hook. Listen to opening track "WooHoo," with its grungy intro giving way to a tight groove and an infectious chorus. Or the soaring melodies of "Entertaining Angels" and "Hallelujah." 5-0 out of 5 stars The beginning of the Furler years
I have been a Newsboys fan ever since I saw a music video by them in the early 90's. They are my favorite Christian band and I want to recommend this new cd to old and new fans alike. I have to say I was rather leary about buying this after I heard about the departure of John James. He added a unique fire energy to the band. But now he is gone and the only other original member Peter Furler takes over at lead vocals and I have to say I am VERY impressed. All ten songs are worth listening to and I have to agree that this probably is one of their best works. It is a very uplifting and edifying collection of music. If you are down in the dumps buy this cd, pop it in and the gloomies are gone. Peter Furler is a musical Man of God...

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE BEST CD IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!
I listen to this CD 24-7! The songs on this album are pretty much all uplifting-make you feel good kinda music, (Exept for The Tide & Always, they are more seriouse songs...) If you are a big Newsboys fan, this CD delivers! Woo Hoo & Deep End have an awsom sound, and songs like Entertaining Angels & Believe have great lyrics. And yes, John James is gone... but personaly, I think I like Peter Furlers voice a little better! It's just too bad they only allow 5 stars... should be more like...10...

5-0 out of 5 stars EASILY THE BEST!
WOW! This album is PURE GOLD! It's SOOOOO fun, and also kind of comforting to me. I don't really like to pick "favorites" when it comes to the Newsboys, but if I had to pick a favorite album they've done, this would probably be it. If I had to pick favorite songs on it, they would be Woohoo, Entertaining Angels, Believe, Truth Be Known-Everybody Gets A Shot (WAY awesomer when live!), Deep End, and especially Hallelujah; It's probably my favorite song of all time. If you read the lyrics, then you'll know what I'm like, hopeful when all seems hopeless. Anyway, EVERY SINGLE Newsboys freak must have this album. When I say freak, I mean CRAZY ABOUT THE NEWSBOYS. Go out and get it!! ROCK ON, NEWSBOYS!! PLEEEASE come to Virginia again!!

4-0 out of 5 stars 2nd Best CD on Shine: The Hits
In my humble opinion this is the 2nd best CD represented on Shine: The Hits, with Take Me To Your Leader being the best. Each of these CDs has 4 songs on the incredibly amazing greatest hits compilation, and each of these CDs has at least one song that could've been a greatest hit, but was left off for whatever reason. On Leader it was "Breathe", and here on Step it's "Tuning In" (at least that would be my choice). As it is, "Entertaining Angels", "Woohoo", "Step Up to the Microphone", and "Believe" are the only ones considered to be greatest hits here, but since Shine already racked up 17 tracks, and it's pretty much perfect as is, I guess something needed to give...

My initial impression upon buying this CD was one of disappointment, because the music was just so different sounding than Take Me To Your Leader. Leader was a bit more "edgy" and hard rock sounding, whereas Step Up To The Microphone introduces new sounds into the songs, like (gasp!) stringed instruments(!). This turned out to be not such a bad thing afterall, as it gave the Newsboys more range in their sound and undoubtedly helped to increase their status as one of contemporary Christian music's premier bands. In fact, they seem to be enjoying taking their music into new directions like this (think Love Liberty Disco, and Adoration), and their popularity just keeps growing and growing because of it.

Ultimately, Shine: The Hits has gone on to be my favorite CD of all time, even in light of the Newsboys' most recent releases like Thrive and Adoration. Maybe the next greatest hits CD will vie for the top spot in my heart, but for now it's all about Shine...

5-0 out of 5 stars Step up to this!
This CD is pure Newsboys style. Any Newsboys fan could tell you, if you turned on your radio to any good christian station, and you heard one of the songs off this CD, even if you had never heard it before, you would know it was the Newsboys. They have a totally unique style, I've never heard it in any other band. Their music isn't rock AND pop, its both,so mixed together that it really become's its own genre. All that to say that this CD probably is their best one yet. Only for true Newsboys fans. In this CD they stay 100% true to their "it could only be the Newsboys" style. Don't be a wimp and shy away from buying this CD without listning to it first. Who knows? Someone like moi, could take the last one.:) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the truly outstanding albums of the 1980s
Michael W. Smith has carved out a career as an adult contemporary balladeer in recent years but this amazing LP showcased another side of this very versatile singer/songwriter/musician. Every song on this album is a tour de force. Too often there are Christian albums that, if you stripped away the message, are not left with anything of substance but not The Big Picture. There are many tracks on here that, with the right amount of push from the record company, could have been big radio hits. Indeed, Rocketown did become a hit on Christian/AC radio in 1986. That song is just the tip of the iceberg here though. Other standout cuts include Old Enough To Know, about the difficulty teenagers face everyday regarding pressures to give in to sexual desires, The Last Letter, a song about alternatives to suicide, and the raucous album closer, You're Alright, which proves that Smith could really rock. This album never gets old and if it had been given more mainstream exposure, would have to be widely considered the classic that it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars The first "Big bang" of CCM in the 80's
Without a doubt the best produced Christian pop album of the decade, and it still holds its own with much of Christendom's 90's musical output. The songs on the album form one cohesive exhortation to America's youth to keep their faith in God during the tumult of the teen years, knowing He's promised to give them an abundant life. Usually, such a pre-meditated effort to instruct through art causes the finished product to smack of overblown, trite piety. Not so with the Big Picture. If I found myself in the role of a youth pastor, I'd be sure to get a copy of this album into every kid's cd player. The quality that sets this album apart does not rest in the slick production, the unforgetably catchy beats and rhythms, or in the clever, creative song writing. This album deserves to be referred to as a landmark, watershed recording in the annals of Contemporary Christian Music because of the sincerity of Michael's heart to help teens see past their present trials and tribulations and grasp hold of the God who serves as the artistic inspiration for the big picture only He has the power to bring about in their lives. As this recording nears its 14th birthday, here's hoping every adult with a youth in his or her direct care will augment their efforts to impart the message of the Big Picture to their impressionable understudy, by giving them a copy of the album.

5-0 out of 5 stars music w/ intelligence that's now missing in the Xtian circle
Aimed at youth audiences - this brilliant album that dealth on the topic of teen suicide ("The Last Letter"), peer pressure and bigotry ("Voices"/"Goin' Thru The Motions"/"Old Enough To Know"), insecurity ("You're Alright"/"Lamu"), and the world's rejection of the Word ("Wired For Sound")- is one of the best record albums to have been ever produced bannering the tag as a Christian music LP release; the album comes with the presence of music that makes sense in its packaging and lyrics that are not after flare but are composed with real intelligent substance - which are quite missing nowadays in the whole spectrum of the christian music genre, and its abode of community in the churches circles in general as well.

In the time of this album's release - Michael W. Smith have come out fresh from his early days as a pinnacle in the CCM market, and have turned avowed to progress from the common form of the genres sound in those times , in the way he puts it: "moving away from the Sandi Patti type of music", Michael W. Smith have incorporated to experiment with different sounds and textures using the latest equiptment found by the time of this album's production using keyboards and synthesizers - that in this respect comes as quite innovative for its time, when the whole music market is then dominated by the likes of pop stars such as Lionel Richie, Prince, and Janet Jackson in the mid-80's - contemporary christian music have come up with a few number of real radical releases that may have never been that worldly popular; but if you were a then-rocker at that time and found yourself in the complete state of absence on anything to listen to during in those days, if one would only care to explore beyond bias-- Christian rock have come to fill in for that void during in those times, which sadly winded as mostly ignored, neglected, and missed by the whole spectrum of popular music's market due to restricted distribution mainly caused by the christian-tag label (that perhaps along with a handful of recording artists like Amy Grant, Kathy Trocolli, and (the most recent) Sixpense None The Richer - only U2 have really survived to surface amidst the dark loom associated with the label concerned).

MWS' The Big Picture is one to stand out as one among of such albums. Its emphasis on truthful radicalism is reflected in the bomshell of musical format that it carries. The music rocks; and although the production may not be as equal to the quality found in todays releases due to the aboundance of great technology and the possibilties that it have made possible thereof, this album is quite excellent considering what still-limited technology is only available at the time of this album's recording.

The track "Pursuit of the Dream" (perhaps the only passable song found here melodical-wise), which serves as the one to carry thematically the album title - is about one's christian goal to advance in the world that is lived in; whilst "Rocketown", a track that depicts an allegorical story of Christ visiting a small town as an alien from another planet... is one of christian rock's finest moment. The track is comparably equivalent to the likes of YES' Space-Rock ballad "Onward" (from the TORMATO album) and SUPERTRAMP's "Dreamer" (from their 1974 epic release CRIME OF THE CENTURY). Truly a XtianRock Classic. Like among the number of other reviewers - this album also have served to influence me a great deal during in those stage of being an easy-pikens as a young christian in a world that could easily ensnare with its deceit and pretensions.

The intermission track "Tearing Down The Wall" is a good musical piece including the outro-hidden piano track by the LP's end as well (my well-worn and old tape copy is a half lenght much longer about this part - dunno about the cd).

Along those albums that leveled similarly with Michael W. Smith's THE BIG PICTURE - also there's DAVE PERKINS' The Innoscence; AD's Art Of The State; BOB AYALA's Rescued; Mark Heard's IDEOLA album called Tribal Opera; PETRA's classic More Power To Ya and its worthy follow up Not Of This World; and those of Steve Taylor's releases are remarkable as well- including his work with the NEWSBOYS; plus for the most current, it's only Rebecca St James' grammy winning cd Pray that i have found evidently to have equally emulate such similar kind of integrity in christian music.

May Xtian Rock arise again to unfold such music as these before the second coming arrives. Peace.
Rate: 9 out of 10.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
If you like Michael W Smith as he is today - check out this blast from the past of his early works.
Still a good album after all these years.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Christian Rock Singer I Ever Heard
This was my first experience with Christian rock. I was a teen in the 80's and this album definately had an influence on how I saw christianity. I felt it to be inspiring and right on for when it was released. It tends to have some good rock movements, yet it still gets the important messages across. Most of his later albums tend to get that soft, airy feeling. This one is down to earth and moves fast. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT
I thought that this CD was amazing!! I dont care howmany different versions of the songs i have heard, i just love hearing hillsong and love seeing so many people glorifyin gods name! i wish i could do something like that! as a teen of today we r told that christianity is nothing and yet it is the only way! i want all my friends who drink and do drugs to see this- this is the way!

one thing that i would have preferred though is if they hadnt played the songs first of all the first 6 hillsong then the next 6 delirious or whatever the order was. darlene said it was a unified album- an album of unity and i would have liked to see them do some stuff in between their songs to bring out that unity!!

great album again from hillsong and great from delirious again! 11/10! buy it! it will somehow change ur life

5-0 out of 5 stars DELIRIOUS FOR D? AND HILLSONG
THE CD IS SUPER, BUT THE DVD IS SUPER BETTER, DARLENE AND MARTIN
ARE GREAT TOGETHER, MARTIN SMITH FROM DELIRIOUS HAS AN ANOINTING
WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING AND PERFORMING SONGS, RAIN DOWN AND
MAJESTY (HERE I AM) ARE GREAT, DARLENE DOES I COULD SING FOR
YOUR LOVE LIKE AN ANGEL WOULD, GREAT CD AND DVD 500 THUMBS UP

5-0 out of 5 stars Unified is unparalleled
Even though Hillsong brings out a live worship album every year I was overjoyed to hear that they were bringing out a live album of their annual conference. The conference is held in the Sydney Superdome with over 20,000 so it makes for an electrifying atmostphere. This is their first album joint with none other but Delirious and this is Delirious' first live album in a while. Even though the groups don't perform any new songs, they make them sound like new for this concert, and will make you fall in love with them again. The song list goes like this:

1. Everyday
I always loved this song but got sick of it when they did it the same way on the youth album. This is my favorite version because it is the version with most guitars. This song does not end boringly. They go crazy on the bridge, I love it.

2. Free
If you did not have the song list you would never guess this would be free when you first hear it start. They have totally changed the intro. I love the new edgy intro, but this song is on all of their most current albums and my favorite version of this song is on Hope.

3. I Give You My Heart
This song has not been heard since 94' or something and is a classic. This version is the best though. Holly Dawson sings lead and her voice is gorgeous. They have also added a never before heard bridge and it's beautiful.

4. Worthy Is the Lamb
This is another well known worship anthem from Hillsong. Miriam sang it first, but Darlene wrote it and sings it on this album. It sounds different but good, and it's really hard to compare the two versions. A gorgeous choir part has been added. I only wish the chorus had been sung more. Still this is amazing.

5. I Could Sing of Your Love Forever/God's Romance
This song is written by Delirious but Darlene and Hillsong perform it. Martin Smith sings a verse later on. I love how Hillsong does "I Could Sing" it is full and majestic sounding. They don't really sing "God's Romance" they just sing the bridge and while it is gorgeous, I wish they had sung the whole song.

6. King of Majesty
This is the 4th version of this song but doesn't sound much different from the original. My favorites are still the ones from Blessed and Shout God's Fame from London.

7. Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?
Finally Delirious comes in. This is one of my favorites and they do it best here. While Delirious' part of the concert has a little more of a "show" feel you can tell they are really worshipping God with their songs. I also love how they have kept in Martin's diolouge.

8. Rain Down
It doesn't sound much different from the studio version but the crowd singing along makes it better.

9. Majesty (Here I Am)
I don't have all of the Delirious records but this song is beautiful. One of their best.

10. What a Friend I've Found
This song is beautiful and Darlene comes in on the second verse and lets it fly. I love how these two sing it better then any other version. I sometimes skip to this song.

11. History Maker
This is honestly not my favorite version of this song. I think my church on any given Sunday has sung it better but I love what Martin says throughout the song and the whole album ends with a huge scream on praise!

Well, you can probably tell I am a bigger Hillsong fan then a Delirious fan but this is one of their best albums between them both. If you want to hear life changing, eletrifying worship, get this album today! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An unexpected shift in style that some like and some don't
EXCELLENT LYRICS!!! Audio Adrenaline came out with awesome sounding songs in "Underdog" like "Underdog" and "Mighty Good Leader"...Stuff you could crank on your car stereo and go be-bopping with....I had people who didn't even know Christ or Audio A going "this stuff is what I'm talking about". Being a new Christian myself, I found that Underdog was a great Christian alternative CD that showed that Christians didn't have to try to imitate the modern sounds and trends, that they could make their own God-inspired sound and it could rock.

Lift caught me completely off guard. The lyrics, in classic Audio A style, were strong and meaningful. I guess the only gripes are just personal things. I like their new sound but its a little too slow for me. It reminds me of bar-room musicians playing at the end of happy hour (no, I've never sat through happy hour but my dad used to play in bars and I've seen alot of musicians with the same style play)...It has all the resonances of a little rhythm and blues with some 80s vocal backups and some strong synthesizer intonations. Its groovy, if thats your style....Personally, I'm the underdog type: hit it fast and leave'em screaming...

If you like strong lyrics with an 80s sound, with a slow melodic pace, this is the CD for you. I liked songs like Ocean Floor, Rejoice, Lift, and Tremble...They were all good but those were the ones I liked in particular.

You have nothing to lose by buying this very cool CD, and I'm sure everyone will find something they like in it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lifting experience
I got this cd a long time ago, but didn't write a review for a long long time. Mainly because I have been busy. But here it goes. Lift is an excellent album. I never owned any Auio A's cds other than Hit Parade now. So I can't say that this cd is any slower than Audio A's cds. I do like this album a lot, and it's better than their greatest hits.
The song "Ocean Floor" is my favorite Audio A song. It's a beautiful song. I also enjoy "You Still Amaze Me", "I'm Alive", "Summertime", "Glory", "Lift", "Tremble", and "Lonely Man". The cd is packed with a lot of great songs. Pick up this cd today you won't be disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Slight dip in quality, but still excellent
In the middle of making 5 solid albums comes LIFT. The bands style was set with DON'T CENSOR ME, 1995. Then came the monster albums that are full of 3, 4 and 5 star songs BLOOM and SOME KIND OF ZOMBIE. These 5 star albums were followed by two 4 star albums UNDERDOG and LIFT. LIFT has a lot of 3 -good- and 4 -great- star songs with only one 5 -WOW!- star songs - Ocean Floor, a beautiful moderate rock song about the fact that, through Jesus our sins are forgiven and forgotten, they are there on the ocean floor.

One wonders what would happen after two 5 star albums, then two 4 star albums. Which way will it break with the next album? The next album is WORLDWIDE, and in my opinion, it is one of the great albums of any genre. Oddly enough, the best song on LIFT is also on WORLDWIDE.. Ocean Floor.

There is a lot to like about LIFT, but the must have albums are, in order of importance to me: HIT PARADE, WORLDWIDE, BLOOM and SOME KIND OF ZOMBIE. Music is food for the soul. Great Christian music from Audio Adrenalin is a huge feast for the soul because, in my opinion all their albums are 3 star or better, except one -the self titled one released in 1995.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST CD YOU WILL EVER OWN!!!!!
I was recently introduced to Audio Adrenaline by a freind on a mission trip to Colorado and New Mexico. I had never heard of the band and the first few times their CD was played in the van we traveled in I didn't pay attention. To me it just sounded like any other rock band with a christian twist. It was when i really began to listen to the words and not just the music that i got in thouch with the music. It was the song "Ocean Floor" that blew me away with its powerful lyrics and it became my anthem for the 2-week trip. I was quick to buy Lift when i got home and it has been all i have listened to for the past weeks. I liked it so much that i have recently purchased Worldwide, their newest disc. Now for a rundown on the songs:

You Still Amaze Me (3/5)-This song is not their best work but is an excellent beginning to Lift.

I'm Alive (4/5)- I'm Alive starts to get a little bit faster and is a great song if your looking for an uplift.

Beautiful (5-5)- Definently one of my favorite songs and what i would consider a wonderful ballad to the Lord.

Ocean Floor (6/5)- Nuff' said.

Rejoice (4/5)- A good fast song with a chorus that is fast and pleasing to the ear, though you might miss the bet part if you don't listen intently.

Speak to Me (5/5)- Another of my favorites. One of the slowest songs on the CD but the honesty of the words and the harmonies are incredible.

Glory (3/5)- I hate saying any song is a filler but i didn't like this song a whole lot. It's fast but it doesn't have any big meaning.

Summertime (3.5/5)- A very fun song with surprisingly childlike lyrics for such a hard song.

This is everything (5-5)- This song is alot like Speak to Me but with a little faster pace and it addresses a different issue, giving yourself to God.

Lift (4/5)- Not quite the quality i would expect from the title track but all and all a very good song.

Tremble (3/5)- Not a very good song. It's way too long and the words probably have more of an inside meaning from the band than what could be interpreted by a normal listener.

Beautiful (Radio Remix) (5/5)- Basically the same as its counterpart but with more of an acoustic sound.

Lonely Man (2/5)- The hardest and worst song on the CD. Don't get me wrong, I like hard music but the chorus is way to short and choppy and this isn't the best Christian song.

I hope you found this review helpful and happy shopping!

5-0 out of 5 stars Audio Adrenaline is magnificent
I had never really listened to Audio Adrenaline before, but one of my friends at school introduced me to them through this cd. :) I was pleasantly surprised as I listened to it and now AudioAdrenaline is one of my favorite artists. The members have been given an awesome gift from God and are using it for His glory. :) ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A big disappointment
Plumb's sophomore effort, Candycoatedwaterdrops, was truly a masterpiece, so I assumed that the group's debut CD would be at least as good. Boy, was I wrong.

The lyrics are definitely deep and thought- provoking, but the music just doesn't sound very good, almost like a Christian version of No Doubt (Think "I'm Just a Girl" and "Spiderweb").

Tiffany Arbuckle has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Unfortunately, on this CD the instrumentation (which sounds very amateurish)almost drowns out her harmonies completely.

Don't get me wrong. I think Plumb is awesome. I just can't believe how bad this CD sounds compared to their second one. Do yourself a favor and spend your money on Candycoatedwaterdrops. It's a million times better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mmmm..yummy
First off, I'm gonna say that there is not one word that can describe Plumb's genius in it's entirety. all the compliments in the world would not do her justice. Secondly, I'm going to say that both this debut cd, AND her sophomore release are amazing. They are COMPLETELY different, but they are both wonderful

As for this remarkable debut, I remember walking into the music store, and the guy who worked there said to me, "Hey! we just got a shipment of new cds...check this one out! It sounds a little like Garbage." (That's the BAND Garbage...) Anyways, I listened to it, and at first, I HATED it. Probably because I was expecting, well, Shirley Manson-esque vocals, with a techno/electronica flair. But after I listened to the entire cd, I ended up buying it. Plumb is not Garbage. such a comparison would be unfair. They're both genius in their own right. Plumb's debut comes off somewhat aggressive, but it's a UNIQUE aggressive. I don't think I've ever heard such power in such meek sounding vocals.

While I DO love this debut from Plumb, there are a couple songs that seem...unpolished. For example, The Cure. In my own personal opinion, it's repetitive. This release is marked by trademark drum loops...and it's the same loop in like four songs. The Cure is also somewhat annoying. Also, Pennyless seems to drone on, never really allowing the listener's ear to quite adjust. But that's just me.

Personally, I think Plumb does a kick butt job being aggressive. I think her best songs are Sobering, Concrete, Unforgivable, and Crazy. She's inspired me so much that's it's ubelievable.

There you have it. My little rant on how great Plumbs debut is. Go out and get it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Sweet
Saw this group in concert before they hit it big (in the Christian market) and they were awesome. The first album, this self-titled one is amazing, with it's blend of funky hard rock and the other half thoughtful and well written. If you're looking for a Plumb CD, this is the one to get.

2-0 out of 5 stars Oddly Depressing yet interesting
This is not upbeat stuff. Amidst the depressing and self pitying lyrics is some interesting music. In an era when you are lucky to have 3 worthy songs on an album, Plumbs self titled album has 5 that are worth a listen musically. Keep the razor blades away from teenage girls in your home if your going to buy this one.

I am not a teenage girl, so I can't tell if these lyrics will send girls into the abyss or pull them away from the edge of it. As I said, musically there are 5 interesting songs, but I don't see anyone getting lifted up with any of this music.

As a parent, I would say check out the lyrics at your favorite lyric website before buying. Make sure they are OK. I bought this based on a recommendation for my 11 year old daughter, but did not give it to her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool!
I love this album but I like "Unforgivable" da best. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Merry Christmas Everyone!
I became a casual fan of Christian rock group Jars Of Clay through their hit single "Flood", but once I heard their version of one of my favorite Christmas songs on the radio several years ago, I instantly feel in love with its modern acoustics which blend flawlessly, and without detracting from the original feel of the classic Christmas tune, perfectly! I can seriously listen to this one song over and over again without growing tiresome of it! That's honestly how good their rendition of "The Little Drummer Boy" really is! And while the Grinch Mix of the same song pales in comparison to the original single version, having it be slower in pace as it reduces to nothing but drums and subtle synthesizers work rather nicely.

The next two songs aren't exactly Christmas tunes but they're very nice to listen to if you feel the need to relax or to rewind from the stresses that Christmas sometimes generates while trying to manage your money while shopping!

I especially enjoy the Fluffy Sav Mix of "Blind", which I would recommend buying if it was a song by itself! And then there's "Wicker Baskets" which is a short, mellow instrumental that closes the album with calm acoustics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Christmas CD!
This CD is wonderful although it was released twice. I personally prefer the original releasing which instead of "Little Drummer Boy" (Grinch mix) and "Blind" (Fluffy Sav mix) it had "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and "He" (Acoustic). If you can I suggest you get the first release but I will comment on both.

Both CDs have the extraordinary rendition of "The Little Drummer Boy" and a great instrumental "Wicker Baskets". I enjoy both songs immensely. "The Little Drummer Boy" is just done beautifully by Jars of Clay. It is awe-inspiring. The vocals are really superb and the music is incredible. "Wicker Baskets" is also a nice soothing song of reflection.

Regarding this CD's songs, the remix of "Drummer Boy" is good as well. I enjoyed the original more but the remix does add some "spice" to the song with some great effects. I personally didn't like the "Blind" remix too much though. It isn't all bad but it didn't seem like it belonged on the CD.

Now the original release of this CD had an excellent version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" on it. The song had exceptional guitar work on it. Then there is the song that I think is the best out of both releases. "He" (acoustic) is just beautiful. It sounds magnificent and is very emotional and touching. Both releases are great and should be added to your personal CD library but if you can try and get the first release. I personally own both and enjoy them both very much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Simplicity
The best way to explain this album is that "It works". Jars take a classic christmas song and make it thier own without detering from the original feel. on Drummer Boy, the blend of accoustic guitar with stings and haunting backing vocals is really amazing. And they make it sound so easy. Coming from a huge Jars of Clay fan, this review might be slighted, but this really is a gem. The "grinch mix" may not appeal to everyone instantly, but after repeat listenings, it catches on. The Blind remix is another example of Jars' awesome range creativity parting completely from the feel of "Drummer Boy". And ends perfectly with "Wicker Baskets", an instrumental works really well with this collection. If you have the chance to pick up the original release of the Drummer Boy cd, with "God rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" (a dark accoustic rendition), and an accoustic version of "He" from thier self-titled debut, which is amazing. Bottom line, this album works well anytime of the year, i listen to it reguardless of the season.

5-0 out of 5 stars great Christian music
Excellent Christian music. Only 4 songs, but each one is so great. This was my very first CD, great for all Christians. Really something to keep your faith strong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I have not heard the later version with the newer tracks. The first version, with "He" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," is absolutely splendid. Jars of Clay prove their versatility and artistic prowess. They are definitely not crackpots, rather they are indeed treasures in jars of clay. You'll love the way they sound on these favorite Christmas tracks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the "Beautiful People" back with full force
If you've forgotten the musical and lyrical force that Melanie blessed us with in the late 60's, early 70's, one listen to her new CD "Crazy Love" will remind you of what makes the singer-songwiter so important an American fixture. And the best part of this is that it is not a throw-back to her early work,(despite the fact that the collection concludes with a re-working of her contoversial Brand New Key) but music and lyric timely and current, but still unmistakingly Melanie. She speaks with the wisdom of age, without pretention or sentimental whimsy. The arrangements are beautiful, and especially notewotrthy is the fantastic guitar work of her son ,Beau Jarred, who simply graces this collection with his performances. I was hopefull when I brought this CD home, and delighted when I heard it.It would be beneath the merit of this work to say "welcome back" I'd rather say "welcome home, Melanie" In a world grown colder each day, this music will make you feel warm again. And we all need a little warmth, don't we?

5-0 out of 5 stars Melanie Safka - incredible as always
It's September 24th, the release date of this CD, and I bought the one and only copy that I could find locally. Having been born in 1970 I am probably one of her youngest fans.

"Let me tell you about my voice. It's big and loud or tiny and soft. It comes from several places in my body and being, and I truly love it" is what Melanie wrote for the back cover of the CD case. And it's so true. Her voice is all that and more, Melanie's voice is as incredible as ever. The songs vary from soft and slow to loud and faster - one more beautiful than the one before -- or just as wonderful?

Melanie speaks to us, the listeners on track 12 followed by the wonderful song that this CD is named after -- CRAZY LOVE. I have to say this is my favorite song on this CD. The last song is, 30 years later, a brand new version of BRAND NEW KEY. In the little booklet that accompanies the CD, Melanie writes about this song and her problems with it. This new version is just as wonderful as the original. This song as well as many others has a few explanatory words and it's fun to read them as you listen to the music. Melanie allows us into her world for a while and through her words it's easy to feel welcome there. All in all I would definitely consider this a MUST HAVE for any and all Melanie Safka fans.

Sidenote: On the CD cover it shows melaniesafka.info as a website address, however, I received an error message trying to go there. Instead you can find her official site at www.crazyloveonline.com

5-0 out of 5 stars A voice as rich as oiled wood
When we finally got hooked onto the world wide web recently, the first name I typed into our search engine was Melanie. To find a new album was thrilling, but when I clicked on Amazon audio and heard The Voice, I teared up.
In Crazy Love, Melanie's voice is as captivating as ever; with her son Beau Jared Schekeryk's guitar, voice and guitar are oiled wood on oiled wood. Of the new songs--And We Fall, This House, Prone to Wander, Come Away Come Go--stand out although they're all well crafted and refreshingly original. I wonder if the fact that Melanie chose to lead a relatively normal life has given her a rich palette to draw her ideas from? I questioned the inclusion of Brand New Key, but my two girls, aged 7 and 3, dance around the kitchen to it every time I play it. It makes sense, I got hooked on Melanie when I was a little girl too. Melanie's songwriting appeals to young ones because she draws from the everyday occurences: "you find your lost keys where you looked before," "She said yes, but you weren't alone."
Reading the liner notes about Brand New Key made me laugh. Rickie Lee Jones has her Chuck E's in Love, Melanie has her Brand New Key. They're both great songs, catchy and clever. I hope there are more albums in the works. With the internet, we all have access to great talents who aren't commercially as available as they should be.

4-0 out of 5 stars mother and son
My sister introduced Melanie into our home mid seventies. Melanie seemed to be popular among the members of the choir she joined. So one day she bought 'The Good Book'. This must be our most played album at home. We all loved Melanie's music that was so inspired somehow. Surprisingly last summer I had the chance to see Melanie in concert. Girlish Melanie had become a Woman and was supported musically by her son Beau. Well, the concert was great! Melanie still sang great, with her voice a little more deeper now, and her new songs sounded great upbeat with the same inspiration. Beau did his guitarswork just perfectly cool and experimental, it was amazingly fresh. It sounded like a mix of country, rock and Spanish guitarwork supported by his crazy laptop. A few months later I got this album and Im playing it for weeks already. I think its totally catchy. The compositions are fluent and fully considered. "They are artists overthere".

5-0 out of 5 stars CRAZY AND WONDERFUL AS EVER
"Look What They Done To My Song, Ma" still makes me teary-eyed and when someone told me Melanie has come out with CRAZY LOVE, I looked ALL OVER and AT LONG LAST found it in Germany, with an extra song! Melanie is as crazy and wonderful as ever! Keep it up, Melanie, keep rolling on those skates and remember: YOU ALONE HAVE THE KEY! ... Read more
