Album Description

As soon as fans hear "COLLIDE", the Lava Records debut from SKILLET, they will know that singer and bassist John Cooper is true to his word. From the scorching hard rock songs like "Forsaken", "Savior", "My Obsession" and "Cycle Down", to the soaring ballad "A Little More", Skillet is ready to bring their awesome energy to a whole new audience. The four-piece rock band, led by Cooper, has toured relentlessly since they formed in the late 90s. Fueled by a love of hard rock and pop melodies, Skillet released several albums independently, and driven by their faith in the music, began to make an impact drawing huge crowds across America. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Skillet has changed, but for the better!
This album is great! The musicianship has increased and John Cooper is finally finding his niche in the music world. Open Wounds, Forsaken, Savior, and Cycle Down are all incredible. Cycle Down is one of those songs that should be a major radio hit, but probably won't be because their new label will probably not pay money to promote it. Lyrically, John has gone for a much less in your face born-again Christian approach, but if you do take time to interpret what he's actually saying, which really isn't that hard if you know your Bible, the spiritual concepts that he addresses are deeper and more practical than topics from albums past. I know the band members fairly well and I assure those of you who are born-again, they are not going to pull an Evanescence. They are just as on fire for God now, if not more, as they we're on the Alien Youth tour and if you look, you'll hear that in the music on Collide.

2-0 out of 5 stars Their Most Unimaginitive and Compromising Album So Far
First of all I love(d ?)Skillet. The composition and arrangement of the music is always first rate, and this continues on this album. The sound quality, energy and excitement in their albums is always high, and this continues on this album. Their lyrics are always uncompromising, unashamedly Christian, and not shy about using the name of Jesus, and this is absolutely missing on this album. Lyrically what you get is Christianity lite, and Christianity in disguise. Oh don't get me wrong there is Christianity on this album, you'll just have to look for it, where in their other albums it was in the open for all to see. Skillet used to be my favorite lyrical band, and they also stood out as Christian leaders. Now they wear "The Exploited" t-shirts, and hide their faith. Where is the lyrical courage and genius of "I Can?" Seems to me like they're taking over the world by assimilating to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Skillet Back and Better
There Back!! Skillet returns from Allien Youth w/a more powerful sound and they as a band have matured some more this time round to! They have a pretty nice mix of medolic and acoustic tunes mixed in there along w/some singing and some screaming of course. Best tracks 1,2,3,5,6,7,9,10 and the rest of them are just simply good also! So if you like P.O.D.,Project 86,Pillar then you ought to like this group. Get it today!

5-0 out of 5 stars New Twist
The wonderful, power-rocking, head banging, God-fearing, awesome group we affectionately know as Skillet has definately taken on a new twist in their style of music. Going from electronic-filled rock to strictly hardcore, massive attack metal I think has enlightened me to more of their abilities. They still convey the same message of living according to a plan of God but just with a different musical approach. Their lyrics this time around, I believe, are meant to go to the common human. Those of us who deal with unfortunate situations in our lives when we feel as if no one is there. Skillet presents the fact that God 'is' there. They are one of the only bands I've heard who aren't afraid to sing about "real life" for both Christians and those unsaved and I think that gives them a very distinct style.
Combining the irreplaceable voice of John L. Cooper and mixing it with the music of his wife Korey, guitarist Ben Kasica, and a powerhouse of a drummer Lori Peters, their music has taken on new perspective and added so much more.
With "Forsaken" the memory of God's love and compassion on us lingers in our minds. In "Savior" and "My Obsession" the message is clearly pointed out that Jesus Christ should be our number one and our ultimate goal in life ('our one and only infatuation'.) With "A Little More" it talks of how love should be shown because it was shown compassionately on us and in the string-filled, numbing "Collide" faith is aquired by our pursue of the belief of it. In other songs like "Under My Skin" and "Fingernails", it takes the lyrics to a more personal level that can relate to some of the listeners.
Either way though, I think that "Collide" is probable one of Skillet's best albums yet. If they keep taking the course their on now, who knows where they could be in 5 or 10 years....... with the help of God, of course. ;)

5-0 out of 5 stars Skillet's best CD by far
I have been a big fan of Skillet for a long time. I have all 5 of their albums previous to "Collide," and I must say, "Collide" is much better than all of their previous albums. This CD ranks as one of my favorite rock CD's of all time. This is Skillet's hardest rocking CD to date, and it is definitely their best sound. The most impressive thing about this CD is that there are not just 2 or 3 outstanding tracks, THERE ARE 11 OUTSTANDING TRACKS! Every one of these songs is spectacular. While "Savior" is doing well on mainstream rock radio as I am writing this, I look at the rest of the CD and think that "Forsaken," "Imperfection, "Open Wounds," "Fingernails," & "My Obsession" are all just as good as "Savior." If you are a rock fan and you do not have this CD, you are doing yourself an injustice. BUY THIS CD NOW! You won't regret it. ... Read more

Remember the guys in your school who were too smart and sarcastic for their own good? Put guitars on them with a punk-pop penchant and you’ve got Relient K, Canton, Ohio’s most famous import since the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The band’s third release is a thoroughly enjoyable romp of rambunctious buzz-saw guitars and smart-aleck lyrics churned out by singer Matthew Thiessen. Who else could get away with lines like "Let’s get emotional girls to wear mood rings/ So we’ll be tipped off when they’re ticked off" in the wildly clever "Mood Rings," or "Hoopes I did it again/ Relationships are something I can’t comprehend" from the suburban-boredom tribute "Hoopes I Did It Again." Yet, the band never loses sight of its faith in these matters, always finding God at the end of their collective ropes. The tight rhythm section of bassist Brian Pittman and drummer Dave Douglas shine again, laying a foundation upon which Thiessen and Matthew Hoopes blaze away on their 6-strings. Maybe all that time in the principal’s office did do the guys some good!--Michael Lyttle ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Relient K on a Roll
Relient K, a group of Christian pop-punkers, is at it again! They've just released their third full-length album, the amazing "Two Lefts Don't Make a Right... But Three Do" on March 11th of this year. The band, who has two other full-length albums., "Relient K" and "The Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek", and several small EP releases, sounds more mature in this CD, and the lyrics are more in-depth, fun, and possibly even more spiritual!
Their first track (and first single) off the CD, "Chap Stick, Chapped Lips, and Things like Chemistry", is one of the more fun songs on the album. Telling the story of Matt Thiessen,, the lead vocalist's, adventure on the Batman ride where his cell phone fell into the lake beneath the structure, the song tells of how Thiessen, who wrote all the songs on the CD, doesn't want to mess up his relationships with those of whom he relates.
One of the more spiritual songs on the CD is "Getting Into You", which happens to be one of my two favorites. It tells of Thiessen's early-Christian period where people were asking him, "Do you know exactly what you're getting into by becoming a Christian?" Then Thiessen realizes that since God "got to" him in "a way words can't describe", then he knows that he must be the one that keeps God alive. Another 'Jesus-focused' song is "From End to End", which is targeted at non-Christians who won't bother to hear the message of Christ. With words like, "Hey, hey, can you hear anything I say? You search for the short-cut, you live life, but for what? I love you and hope you will find the truth some day," it's not too "tsk-tsk, you bad non-Christian", but more, "please just listen, because I love you".
Most of the songs on the album are about girls and relationships with them. The fun-and funny- "Mood Rings" talks about girls who are over-emotional. It advises those particular girls to wear mood rings to let their boyfriends know exactly what they're feeling at the moment. The I-can't-believe-I-did-it vibe in "College Kids" tells how Thiessen wished he hadn't gone to college, due mainly to the out-of-control parties, lack of money, unwilling-to-date college girls, and the feeling that after spending all that money, the tests were the only parts that mattered. "Over Thinking", another relationship song, is about how Thiessen wished he had never had experience with a girl who ended up being a "negative end", when all he wanted was his dream girl.
My other favorite song, if you were wondering, is the fifth track, "In Love With the 80s (Pink Tux to the Prom)". This absolutely hilarious take on the decade of all decades is so fun to sing along with! With lyrics like, "When you're the president of the Breakfast Club, and you're not hesitant to fall in love, to fall in love, 'coz you throw it away to fall in love with the 80s." The perfectly composed music even sounds like 80s music!
All in all, this third album by the unstoppable Relient K is very worthy of your purchase! Even the secular music-loving person will fall in love (with the 80s and) with the band! You can purchase this CD at your local Christian music/book store, Circuit City, or music store nation-wide.

5-0 out of 5 stars Their best CD yet
Relient K's latest CD is definitely their best. Not only does it feature some incredibly funny songs, there are some really deep worship pieces too. The green cover (at least of the one I bought) is so typical of Relient K and the others are, too. (You can buy this disc with a variety of funny covers)

The sound quality is fantastic. Matt Thiessen is the lead vocal for just about every song, with the others in fine support. The instruments don't get too loud and don't dwarf the lyrics, instead they are in perfect support.

As far as songs go, there are a number of powerful personal pieces, most of which point to the trials Christians face in their day to day lives. Try, screw up, get up brush off and try harder is the name of game. You'll also enjoy funny pieces "College Kids" and "In Love with the 80s" (oh, so true...)

Definitely their best CD yet, and I am looking forward to much more in the years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Relient K- The best group i've heard of in a long Time
Two Lefts don't make a right... But three do was the first Relient K cd I ever bought and is has been a year since I bought it and It has never gotten old. I Think that Matt T. (the singer/songwriter of the group) is such a great songwriter!! He is so random and that's what makes relient K so great!! They can be funny and random but then they can be serious. I love that none of their songs sound the same. I have a lot of CD's that the songs sound the exact same and it's just boring but Relient K is Definitly NOT boring! I'd recemend this Cd to EVERYONE because their cds aren't "preachy" but at the same time it plants a seed in people's heads about what christianity is all about so GO AND GET THIS AND ALL OF THE OTHER RELIENT K CDS!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars You don't have to be "spiritual"
I took a chance with this cd and it was deffinetly worth it. I am not a spiritual person by no means, but I musy say that this cd it great. I bought it only listening to a few of their songs and I had to head to the gospel section of my best buy to get this.

chap stick, chapped lips and things like chemistry, mood rings, falling out, forward motion, and in love with the 80s are the songs i heard that made me buy this cd. There are several other songs that make this cd deffinetly worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow: Great CDS
This cd has all the latest in popular Christian music, it is a good sampling of all kinds of different artists. It is awesome to sing along to music that is pure and upbeat. Wow 2004 has Relient K, Jars of Clay, Stephen Curtis Chapman, and many more popular Christian artists. All in all, this cd has great music, great artists, and a great message.

4-0 out of 5 stars not exactly WOW....more like wow
I have been a fan of CCM since 1997, and a purchaser of a good deal of WOW CDs. Usually, I am impressed with the song selection and the overall mix of different styles and subgenres. It takes a great effort to get so many different styles and subgenres that encompass Christian music on one album. For the most part, I enjoy each song on its own merit. What was the disappointment for me in regards to the latest WOW offering was the sequencing of songs. On the first disc, there is too much uptempo poppy songs for me to take - and I am a definite adult contemporary fan. The second disc is much like the same, except it is all rock. I definitely dig the rock songs(rare for me), but again, it is one fast and hard song after another- different tempos are needed. I think that if the songs were more evenly distributed out along both discs, the album would be more enjoyable. As far as the songs themselves, a good 95% of them are good or great. Just better sequencing is needed.

Still, WoW is the best way to sample the genre as a whole, or to discover an artist that you may not even given thought to listen to before. This is especially true if you live in a place where the CCM market is almost nonexisent, such as where I live in north east PA.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great CD but it could be better.....
I bought wow 2003 only a month before I bought this one. I have to say, if you want more ~MOVING~ songs get Wow 2003. But for the best sounding songs, this is your cd!

3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for young adults
Many of the songs are close to the hip-hop genre. Just a little too much funk for my taste. Lyrics are nice and geared more to the personal experience of worship than the out and out praise. Teens can identify with this album very well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not too shabby
This CD is one of my favorites. It really captures God's amazing love for us and the Christian spirit. ... Read more

The John Michael Talbot Collection focuses on his solo work for the Sparrow record label. These widely variant songs are culled from The Lord's Supper, half of the double-disc Mass in D Minor, throughto 1990's quietly contemplative The Hiding Place. There are pieces performed in the folk-blues idiom, symphonic and/or choral arrangements, as well as dips into Celtic music, Renaissance-inspired harmonies, ballet suites, and Catholic worship songs. Despite these seemingly disparate styles, almost all are given Talbot's distinctively melodious vocal treatment and nimble picking whether it be classical, rootsy, or a custom blend thereof. There are few others who so thoroughly create the space for reverence and contemplation. And as with his work with brother Terry, the music, much based on biblical text, complex structure, and theory, is heads and shoulders above even today's most winning Christian pop. --Paige La Grone ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Talbot is an exceptional artist
John Michael Talbot began is career in the sixties as a country-rock artist, playing and touring with industry giants. Because of a profound conversion experience, he set out on his own path of writing and singing songs expressing his journey of faith in the Franciscan tradition of the Catholic Church. Over the past twenty-five years, Talbot has recorded an unbelievably broad range of Christian music encompassing many styles, from solo voice and guitar, to orchestra and choir. He has put to music the classic prayers and liturgy of the church, as well as written original material in both acoustic and clasical styles, with a depth of theological and musical integrity. In contemporary Christian music, where glitz and glamor have become an unfortunate by-product, Talbot rises above the commercialization by singing songs, and living a life of humility and service. His songs have been a powerful influence on me and my spiritual journey. I have sung and played his songs in my United Methodist congregation, at church camps, and in my own spiritual retreats. More than anything else, his beautiful music and his life are a witness to the power and presence of Christ. These discs are a collection of his music from across the years. I strongly recommend them to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, prayerful, Christian music
John Michael does more than sing an excellent song, he prays his songs. The music has power. I recommed it most highly to anyone interested in good, solid, scriptural Christian music.

3-0 out of 5 stars Soothing Sounds to Satisfy the Soul
Peaceful, Serene, Poignant and Beautiful. I have listened to this collection repeatedly and find it to be a worshipful experience. There is an intangible simplicity and humility that come through. For the busy mind, the troubled heart, the wounded soul, here is food and drink. Taste and see!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much Hollywood music a la Ben-Hur
The point is not whether Michael Talbot is a talented singer and devoted Christian. He is certainly both. The point is: is this particular cd good or not? From my point of view it is a rather mediocre album. I feel that Michael Talbot is at his best when playing the guitar with minimal orchestral accompaniment like in his acclaimed "Come to the Quiet". Unfortunately, what you will find on this cd is a medley of such delightful songs with more ambitious orchestral compositions which are simply terrible and smack of Hollywoodian film music a la Ben-Hur or The Ten Commandments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavenly
When I die and go to heaven I expect the music to sound just like John Michael Talbot's ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars RELIENT K ROCKS LIKE A GOOSE!!
HEY GUYS!! what is up?! dude,i got this cd the day it came out, and i am a pretty big fan of them, but i totally didn't really like they're first cd, it was kinda boring, but this cd is awesome. They've gotten a lot better musically, heading a lot more into the punk rock scene, and they DO IT AWESOMELY!! THey picked up a new drummer since they're last cd, dave douglas, and they have changed they're sound, and now pretty much there's no one else like them, punk rock with a lot of melody. "SADIE HAWKINS DANCE" is the catchiest song on the cd, rockin away, and then "pressing on" and "my way or the highway" aren't far behind for the catchiest. Overall, i listen to like new found glory, superstar, and any good christian punk, or clean good fun secular, which there isn't very much of, But relient k really hits hard with the lyrics, THEY ROK like a goose. So overall the cd rocks harder, more punk, better melodies and catchier stuff, IT ROCKS, and is definately one of the best punk or christian cd's out.......SO BUY IT!! relient k rocks.......AND BUY THIS!! no matter what, even if you don't like music, this will make you like it, U ROK,seya later

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a good thing!
I bought this cd right after seeing them in concert on the electric youth tour. i already had the self titled cd but the songs in concert were mostly off of this cd. i figured "hey i really like those songs, i need to get this" i've had it for about 7 months now and i still listen to it constantly. here is the breakdown:

1: Kick-Off.....the great intro to a great cd..4 out of 5
2: Pressing On......the catchy tune will have you singing it for days and the rock driven guitar is great.......4 out of 5
3: Sadie Hawkins Dance.......One of the reasons I even thought about buying this cd, i love the oh, oh, oh!......5 out of 5
4: Down in Flames......great song all around, nothing really sticks out about it though......4 out of 5
5: Maybe Its Maybeline.....another expected refernece to name brand or pop culture, it was needed though, especially in this great song.....4 out of 5
6: Breakdown.....joke about the relient k car turned strong message....5 out of 5
7: Those Words Are Not Enough.....i had never heard this song before i bought the cd but the heartfelt lyrics and good tune made this song quickly become one of my favorites....5 out of 5
8: For the Moments I feel Faint....by far the best song on the album, once again i'd never heard this song, but i loved this song so much, i still do! a great run at a beautiful accoustic song and matt thiessen's vocals ring gorgeously in this song.....5 out of 5
9: I'm Lion-O....my mom makes fun of this song all the time because we have no earthly idea what in the heck it means, but hey! it's still a great song!.....5 out of 5
10: What Have You Been Doing Lately?.....How true is this song? Watching our friends fall from God. A good song all together and i love the guy in the background(ri li!)....5 out of 5
11: May the Horse be With You....funny funny song! very catchy as well!........5 out of 5
12: My Way or the Highway: Good lyrics but nothing really sticks out about the song but it is still good!....4 out of 5
13: The Rest Is Up to You: wonderful lyrics, one of the best written songs on the album i believe, very clever and yet good message.....5 out of 5
14: Failure to Excommunicate....I don't know how many time i just skipped over this song when i listened to the album but one day i just listened to it and know it is my second favorite track! i love it! it's differnet in the way it sounds a little darker than the other tracks....5 out of 5
15: Less Is More...Good, Good, Good, Good, Bravo! to relient k for this amazing piano driven songs that has wonderful bgv's and a very meaningful message!....5 out of 5
Bonus at the end of Less is More.....Skittles and Combos is hilarious and a little hard to understand so turn it up and laugh your head off!

well i hope that this helped and i highly recommend this album no matter what type of music you like. and weather you you think this is punk or not, it's not important, it is just good music!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the greatest...but that's not what gets me riled...
Somehow I think these guys don't take themselves as seriously as so many of the reviewers want them to. After all, they covered the theme to Charles in Charge on their first album. All-in-all its harmless, infectious bubblegum pseudo-punk, but somedays that's what you want to hear.

But what really bugs me is the fact that kids are reviewing this album who are too you to realize that "I'm Lion-O" is about the Thundercats! I can't even believe the guys in the nad are old enough to remember Thundercats, but still, props for the pop culture flashback.

1-0 out of 5 stars I guess I didn't know how bad music could get
There are many bad bands out there today that I can only laugh at in pity (Linkin Park, Smile Empty Soul, Trapt, Static-X, the list goes on). However, nothing prepared me for what I heard a couple days ago. I was innocently surfing the web and letting my media player play all the random crap that was in there when I heard the worst, vomit-inducing vocals and teen-bopper-style guitar work to ever pass through my ears. I instantly turned down the volume, checked to see if anyone was around, and let out a massive yell of frustration. I returned to my computer to check out what band was responsible for this sound equal to a three-year old banging pots against a metal surface (which I've heard many times before). My database said I was listening to Relient K's "Pressing On". I checked my brother's room, and sure enough, I found this CD. I listened to it just to find out how bad it could get. Sure enough, Relient K managed to sink lower than I thought any band could go in the talent department. This is completely atrocious; they make Switchfoot (another lame Christian band) look like gods (hell, they even make Likin Park look like.....well, semi-talented, anyway).

A Note to Amazon: Please allow a zero star rating!! I beg of you; it feels like digging nails into a chalkboard to give these guys even one star!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not their best...
This CD is definitly not their best. Personally, I think their best was definatley the third CD they made. But, this IS Relient K, and I personally like ALL their music. So, if you like songs about horses and lions, this IS your CD. ... Read more

Heart in Motion is the 1991 album that broke Amy Grant into the mainstream pop-music charts, yielding five top 20 singles and two No. 1 hits ("Baby Baby" and "Every Heartbeat"). But while the release is filled with upbeat beboppin' singles, it also displays a more serious side and a depth of songwriting ability from Christian music's first lady. The urgent "Ask Me" introduces you to a sexually abused girl who miraculously grips tightly to her faith while struggling through a difficult history, while "I Will Remember You" and "How Can We See That Far" are haunting ballads dripping with echo-laden guitars. Indeed, Grant showcases a wide variety of sounds and flavors on this, her multiplatinum introduction to the secular music world. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amy's Best Release (Ever).
When I was barely getting into music, Amy Grant was probably the first singer that I heard. I remember back in the early 90s, falling in love with "Baby Baby" and "Good For Me". For Amy's 1991 release, she exploded onto the Billboard charts, scoring 5 Top Twenty songs - "Baby Baby", "Every Heartbeat", "That's What Love Is For", "Good For Me", and "I Will Remember You". I believe it was around 1992 or 1993 when I had first seen and heart Amy Grant. I loved tuning into VH1 to see her music videos, and I would even stay up for hours just to see all of them played on an old VH1 show called "A to Z." My absolute favorite song on Heart In Motion is "Baby Baby" - I bet pretty much everyone has heard this song. It's still on today after 10 years. For a Christian singer, Amy Grant sure did hit the mainstream with her irresistible songs. Even though they were pop songs, she still showed she was a true Christian with the songs "Ask Me" and "Hope Set High".

Although she may have been on the Pop side for a few more albums, she was able to show that she could crossover music genres and become a major hit. Heart In Motion is a great collection of songs. With its upbeat rhythms, its positive messages, and its ballads, it's a winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still Sounds Good After All These Years!
This is another one of my favorite CD's that's on my top must-have CD collection of 'Pop' recording artists. This was the album that allowed Amy Grant to "officially cross over the bridge" to the main-stream "secular" market, and it worked! Most of these songs can be taken as a love song between you and someone you love or the love you feel for your "Higher Power", and it works! It brings to mind of another pop artist, Michael Poss, who released a 1996 CD entitled "I Can Feel You In My Heart". Both of these artists write in the same genre/style. My favorite songs on Amy's CD are "Galieo", "That's What Love Is For", and "Hope Set High". Amy Grant has come a long way, and I hope she continues to write more songs in this particular musical style of Pop. A must have CD for die-hard Amy Grant fans!

3-0 out of 5 stars Well..
I think the fact that Amy Grant's "Heart in Motion" and Nirvana's "Nevermind" were released at roughly the same time, both selling upwards of some odd-million copies, shows the amazing dynamics of the Human psyche... Just an interesting contrast to observe.

I was about 8 years old when this CD came out, and somehow I got my hands on it (tape, at the time). What can I say? I played it over and over. Note, I'm a male. It didn't matter. It was catchy stuff. It was pop that you could sing along with. It was, in short, feel-good music that didn't yearn for the profound meaning in relation to the sort of negative angst that was ever-growing. Of course, one could very easily describe it as shallow when compared to other music at the time period, but I think that's missing the point entirely; that music (most certainly) has its place, but so does this.

Bottom line, this album is filled with poppy tunes that could have become hits. Most the songs possess an innocence that is very likeable and the music itself, with its catchy hooks and eletronic backings, is positive and almost always maintains a fast momentum. Amy Grant's got a hip yet sincere voice that goes well with the instrumentation, and the result is pretty engaging, honestly. There are many songs that rank for the album's best, so I won't decide. Interestingly, I remember back in the summer of 1992, waiting ever-so anxiously for the tape to reach "I Will Remember You", which, along with "That's What Love is For", probably hit my inner-child the most. :)

It's hard to say how much of this truly serves as nostalgia for me, but in all truthfulness I think it's actually going to appeal to most anybody to listens to it. Of course, I mean anybody who goes in without biases. It's just a wholly pleasant album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart In Motion
Heart in Motion is Amy Grant's highest selling CD, it has sold over five (5) million copies in the U.S. alone! When it came out in 1995 it went straight to number one on the billboard charts (the normal charts, pop charts, and christian charts). It spawned five (5) #1 hits (Baby Baby, Good for Me, That's what Love is for, Every Heartbeat, and I will remember You). It is an awsome CD and anyone whos loves pop music will LOVE it! Highly recommended! ... Read more

One of contemporary Christian music's founding fathers, Michael W. Smith offers a brief sampling in this 10-year retrospective. Most of these keyboard-driven songs concern uplifting themes of encouragement, support, and friendship. Some would argue that the lyrical content appeals more to church youth than what Smith displayed in later releases. No matter. While Smith certainly doesn't feature a golden voice, his forte lies in his songwriting, as evidenced throughout this greatest-hits collection. "Place in This World" and "Go West Young Man" are hard-charging anthems with irresistible melodies, while the unique "Rocketown" and "Secret Ambition" show a CCM artist thinking outside the traditional borders. "Kentucky Rose," one of two new songs, perhaps is the most enjoyable and demonstrates where Smith has gone later in the 1990s. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great decade of heart-touching classics...
Michael W. Smith is simply one of the best of the best. He has song after song after song that just cut into you deeper than the sharpest knife. His music and even the simple messages in his songs are always just what I need to get me through the rough times.

This CD encompasses the first 10 years of his solid ministry, picking the best of the best for us to enjoy. So, for all of the Smitty fans who aren't "freaks" enough to go buy 20 or so CD's from him, this CD is an excellent choice.

Great upbeat songs: PICTURE PERFECT, GO WEST YOUNG MAN, SECRET AMBITION
Great mellow songs: I WILL BE HERE FOR YOU, PLACE IN THIS WORLD, ROCKETOWN, FRIENDS

5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks for 10 great years, Smitty!
This CD is a sentimental favorite of mine, because Michael W. Smith is the reason I started listening to Christian music. His timeless song, "Friends," was played at my high school graduation and has been one of my two favorite songs ever since (the other is "Worlds Apart" by Jars of Clay). "Friends" was also the reason I bought this album, the first Christian album I ever owned; and it was close to a week before I got around to listening to it because there are so many great songs on this album (good move putting it towards the end, guys). I hear people say all the time that Michael is a feel-good Christian singer, and that there isn't much depth in his lyrics. Sure, Michael does sing a lot of feel-good songs; it's impossible not to in the Christian music business. But those people have obviously never heard the songs "Pray For Me," "Give It Away," or "Place In This World," among others. These songs talk about the struggles and misconceptions that today's Christians have to deal with on a daily basis. And "Secret Ambition" tells of Jesus's unwaivering mission to redeem us through His self-sacrifice. These are hardly feel-good topics. I fell in love with Smith's music for the very reason that his songs made me think. And I continue to listen to this album because Michael W. Smith speaks from the heart. Obviously "Friends" is my favorite song on this track, but I memorized EVERY song. That alone should tell you something. Buy this album because you want to draw closer to God. Buy it because it makes you feel good. Or buy it because it makes you think. Whatever your reason, just buy it. You'll be glad you did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great is the Lord!
I recently pulled this CD out again and have been listening to it on my drive in to work. I have a short commute so it takes a couple days to cycle through the disk. On the days I get to Great is the Lord, I find myself welling up inside to the point of tears and say "yeah!" at the end. This is a song I've probably heard or sang a thousand times in my life, but hearing it here really hits home. Michael W. Smith was the first Christian artist I heard while growing up in the 80s and I was taken by how well written his songs were while having a Christian perspective - not to mention, they were great to listen to (my thinking at the time was that all Christian music had to be boring enough to be sung in a church service). Thank you Smitty. Great is the Lord!

5-0 out of 5 stars Has all my favorites
This CD is right there--loaded with good stuff. Personally I like tracks 3,5,7,9 (notice a pattern?)the best. But there is not a bad song on this CD. If you are not a Mike fan, then this is a good one to start with. YOu get the best of his beginnings and a taste of where he is going.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars? God didn't create enough stars to rate this album.
I do not think I can say enough about this CD in 1000 words. God told me it was evil. He was wrong. The Pope told me it was good. Long live PJP II.
Anyway, this compact disc was amazing. I wish I had the privigilege to own the cassette tape. And then lose it. Or wear it out, which ever comes first. I do not care about Smitty's cut-rate songs. He is one with God. I am one with God, and therefore I am one with him. I feel him inside me when he sings about his wife. When he sings about God, I feel even closer to him.

As a precocious 14-year-old, Stacie Orrico made her music biz debut with Genuine, a remarkably soulful release that went gold without much fanfare other than that generated by a limited supporting role on tour with Destiny’s Child. Now all of 16, Orrico shows more youthful moxy in a self-titled collection of upbeat pop and more R&B-influenced tracks. Her expressive vocals continue to belie the fact that she’s merely a teenager, as she draws inspiration from idols ranging from Ella Fitzgerald to Lauryn Hill. Orrico also co-wrote eight of her release’s 12 tracks, including hit single "Stuck," an ode to school-age love. Certainly Orrico leans heavy on the talents of producers Tedd T, Dallas Austin, and the Underdogs, who combine to give the exuberant youngster a silky-smooth sound. But for critics who would label Orrico as another propped-up teen artist, check out her starkly revealing ballad "Strong Enough," which shows us a young girl on the edge seeking wholeness in her spirituality. That genuineness, combined with a wealth of vocal talent, makes Stacie Orrico someone to watch. Michael Lyttle ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars STACIE ORRICO'S SECOND ALBUM PROVES THIRD TIMES A CHARM
After following success with her debut album and scoring two hit singles and a Christmas EP Stacie Orrico returns with her self-titled second album full of lots of surprises and lots more. This album much like Amy Grant's 1991 album Heart In Motion focuses less on Stacie's Christian image as she settles down into a more Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera type image. Here's my song by song take on each track,
1. Stuck,
My first exposure to Stacie Orrico and this song is just perfect for someone getting into the pop genre,
2. There's Gotta Be {More to Life}
This song is already a huge hit on radio stations around the nation and this song is cowritten by pop artist Lucy Woodward,
3. Bounce Back,
In this song we find Stacie singing about getting over the hard rocky road of life and with a cool groove Stacie proves that you have to bounce bounce back,
4. I promise,
This song is the first ballad and tells about how your friend is always be there for you even when the times are tough. It's also written by world famous songwriter Diane Warren,
5. Security,
This song is a mega hit on the Christian charts and i'm greatly aware that Stacie will win a Dove Award for Best Christian Artist this year. This song is also featured on the WOW 2003 Christian Artist collection,
6. Instead,
This song talks about how Stacie meets up with a homeless man and offers him the better life. Best be picked as the third single,
7. Hesitation,
This song is a fast moving Christian dance song that will surely be a hit on Christian radio,
8. Strong Enough,
The second ballad on the album that is so wonderful and the wonderfulness is in the lyrics that carries a strong message about not giving up and being true to yourself,
9. I could be the one,
This song would knock Britney Spears socks off because this song has some very cool lyrics and a neat beat,
10. Maybe I won't look back,
This song is another pop tune that Stacie is one heck of a singer and the beat and the lyrics work so well together,
11. Tight,
The only weak spot on the album because it is so short but to put it simple a dancey song,
12. That's what love's about,
At first you might mistake this song for Nsync's Gone but the final track makes an neat song to dance to with your best crush,
At 17 Stacie Orrico is still making a hit with the Christian market but hope that she will have more success with the pop market as well. For far more Christian fare take a look at these rising Christian Albums, Point Of Grace-Life Love And Other Mysteries, Zoegirl-Zoegirl, Jaci Velasquez-Unspoken, Point Of Grace-Free To Fly, Michael W Smith-Change Your World, Sandi Patty-Find it on the wings, And Third Day-Offerings A Worship Collection, If you haven't gotten the chance to hear Stacie sing this album is the one to own and is well worth the money

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
I like 9 out of the 12 songs on this CD. This album really gets me dancing. Stacie rocks!!

Stuck-1 Star Not my favorite song on the album; it isn't the best song.

More to Life-15/5 Stars! The best song on the album! It's great!

Bounce Back- 5/5 Stars Good song with great lyrics!

I Promise- 2/5 This song really isn't Stacie's style.

Security-4/5 Good song; it talks about God being your security, not people

Instad- 5/5 Great beat; great message!

Hesitation- 5/5 Really good song with a truthful message. Why do some people hesitate to come to God?

Strong Enough-5/5 A beautiful song about how strong God really is.

I Could be the One-5/5 A great upbeat song about how God can use a person.

Maybe I Won't Look Back-5/5 Fun song!

Tight-5/5 Another fun song with a great message...only God can keep us in tune!

That's What Love's About-1/5 One of my least favorite songs on the album.

I also enjoy Stacie's CD, Genuine. It is awesome. I can't believe that she was only 14 when she started making albums! She won the recording contract at age 12!

4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful surprise
Stacie Orrico (pronounced or-REE-ko) is one of those artists whose music I liked, but I just never got around to giving the CD a try. I finally listened to it today, and it's a very good album. I was originally going to say that this album was overlooked, although you really couldn't tell by the reviews on this site.

On Stacie's first album, Genuine, she was pretty much inspirational all the way. But some people probably own that album and love it, and then they heard the R&B-flavored "Stuck" hit the speakers and said, "What?" Hey, sometimes you have to do what sells. And it's not that "Stuck" isn't a great song, but it IS different from the material on her first album.

There are some other good songs on here too, like one of my favorites, "Bounce Back". And "I Promise" and "Security" probably wouldn't work right if they were slow songs (look at the lyrics to see what I mean), but they DO stand out on here. I'm also wondering if the person that said Stacie lost her faith listened to the whole album, because things get pretty spiritual toward the end of the album, as shown on "Hesitation", "Tight", and the wonderful ballad "Strong Enough".

"(There's Gotta Be) More to Life", another one of my favorites, could also double as an inspirational song, depending on how you look at it. And the obligatory end-of-album we-are-the-world song "That's What Love's About" actually works pretty well. But I knocked off a star because "Tight" ends in an odd place, and "Instead" was a little too out there. Still, Stacie Orrico's self-titled album is definitely worth picking up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Charming Girl With Inspiring Virtues
Stacie's "Stacie Orrico" is charmer in every way. Her soft and succulent vocals are refreshing and sweet, and she truly tries to bring justifiable messages across in her music. She uses words to potently get her views across, and hot club funky beats to allure the listeners who wouldn't usually find this music appealing. One of the most inspiring and uplifting songs that I've heard in a long time resides in this album. "Strong Enough" is accompanied by just a mere piano, but is a soft and delicate flower of a song that hits your spiritual heart in its emotional core. This song alone brought my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars. The sophomore slump didn't slow her down at all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have!
I am a big Dave Crowder fan so it is not surprising I love his remix. To see Daves band in concert is a very emotional experience. This is worth your money!

5-0 out of 5 stars David Crowder Meets Postal Service
This is an excellent CD.Just know what you're getting first--it's not for everyone.Listen to the samples on Amazon. The CD can best be described as Postal Service-esque remixes of Crowder's classic songs. If you like the Postal Service, then this CD is for you.

Also be sure to pick up David Crowder's new book, Praise Habit: Finding God in Sunsets and Sushi. He is as good a writer as he is a musician.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations
I've never been a very big DCB fan, but I must say that these remixes (or "spectral deconstructions") are incredible. I wish more artists would do projects like this. Dance remixes generally suck because they dispose of the essence of a song, replacing it with redundant beats that go on for ten minutes. Not so with the remixes on this EP. The songs are intact and simply reinvented with new instruments, both digital and analog. If you are a fan of The Postal Service or any other music that is song-based but electronic, please do yourself a favor a drop the handful of dollars it takes to get Sunsets & Sushi.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
I love Illuminate and after seeing the $9 price on this the other day at Wal-mart I picked it up.It's a really cool idea, and I always love to take old worship songs and keep them fresh and interesting.Maybe I need to give it more time, but I really agree with the reviewer that said some of the songs sound flat. That's immediately what I thought. There are no emotional ups and downs in the music. There is no climax when songs transition from verse to chorus. The songs just sounded empty to me, almost like someone talking over a little beat in the background. But I appreciate and respect the effort. Some of the songs are a lot of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars See... Jesus really IS cool!
I'm a graphic designer for a progressive church, so you can bet that if Jesus collides with a remix album, I'm going to buy it. I think this album is exceptional. For me, it DID replace Illuminate. I enjoy a more downbeat, chill-out sound, even as much as I love Crowder's other stuff. I found myself working with one hand lifted in praise and the other on the mouse. (I think Jesus is okay with that.) The entire CD is just a fluid movement, and each song even loops well into itself if you put it on single repeat, as I did with tracks 2, 3 and 4. Heavenly, just Heavenly. And it's a great witnessing tool as well, especially for the elite dance-crowd club kids that don't realize that Jesus really IS cool. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An awesome album full of excellent songs
I was very suprised when I came upon this really great band. I love Christian music and decided to check out Switchfoot, and I'm glad I did! This band has an incredible sound, a very talented vocalist, very thoughtful lyrics, and a great abilty to craft tunes that really stick with you. I have found myself humming almost all the songs on this CD to myself. All the tracks on this fine CD are at least good, most are excellent. Personal faves - I Dare You To Move (one of the most super-charged songs I've ever heard), Innocence Again, Love is the Movement, Loser, Playing for Keeps, Economy of Mercy, and Learning to Breathe... wait, that's well over half the album! The lyrics are wonderfully written, as well. Some of the best are in Economy of Mercy, just listen to it and you will be moved. It is a powerful statement about the relationship between God and humans! Putting it simple, buy this CD NOW if you like either Christian music or alternative music even a bit - it is a real treat! It will surely have an effect on you!

5-0 out of 5 stars A collection of beautiful and fun songs that make you think!
I can't begin to fathom how you could not like Switchfoot. They have such a *unique* sound. Jon Foreman sounds like no one else I know and I don't think I've ever mistaken them for someone else. There are fun songs, there are serious songs, but there are no meaningless songs. My favorite is probably Innocence Again, because it is a constant reminder that no matter how badly I screw up, God will take me back, and give me innocence again. I also like Economy of Mercy, Erosion, Living is Simple, You Already Take me There, Love is the Movement, Learning to Breathe, okay, I like them all. But I just really admire Jon and Tim Foreman for their humility before God. I mean, it's not easy to say, "Okay, Lord, break me," because getting broken hurts, even if we know it will make us whole. It hurts. I really like the poetry in Economy of Mercy, too. "We are bruised and broken masterpieces, but we did not paint ourselves." I LOVE THAT!! Well, I could go on and on, but I'll spare you. You can just, uh, buy it for yourself!

3-0 out of 5 stars Third Time's the Charm
I think Steve Huey put it best when he said, "It's refreshing to hear a band that's still searching for the answers instead of claiming to have them already." He was talking, of course, about Switchfoot. Although labled as a "Christian" band, the songs on this album aren't what you would call praise or worship. The name of God is not mentioned in every single song, yet they are all firmly rooted in Christian faith. These songs are much more mellow then their previous two albums, but equally catchy with lyrics that will get stuck in your head and make you think. Switchfoot should be proud. Not a lot of bands can do that.

4-0 out of 5 stars Now this is what it's all about...
Fun, Inspirational, Switchfoot is just plain kick a**. ... Read more

Melanie was the Jewel of the Woodstock Generation. Like her three-decades-down-the-road heir, the woman born Melanie Safka made a quick splash as a radio-friendly singer-songwriter. Something of a male Donovan (what is this, no-surname syndrome?), Melanie took hits (like Jewel, too) for delivering what critics considered hippie-dippy platitudes. (She came to resent her "bliss ninny" image and rebelled against it following her late-'60s, early-'70s heyday.) But, also like Donovan, Melanie's best songs have aged nicely, thanks in large part to her knack for integrating her distinctive rasp into ingratiating hooks and solid folk-rock arrangements. Alternating between melismatic sing-alongs ("Lay Down," here in unedited seven-minute-plus form, her splendid cover of "Ruby Tuesday," "What Have They Done to My Song, Ma?") and precious novelty numbers ("The Nickel Song," "Brand New Key," "Animal Crackers"), Melanie wrote her own little bit of pop history, which is celebrated in this worthy 19-song retrospective. All the hits are here, remastered by art-rock avatar Robert Fripp. --Steven Stolder ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Digitalized, Re-Energized Melanie
Finally, a compilation of Melanie's music that has been re-mastered digitally from the original masters, and apparently, from some masters that have just recently been discovered after being feared lost. What a joy it is to listen to some of these old chestnuts in brilliant stereo with crystal clear sound quality. In addition, there is a new cut of her fairly recent, "Summer of Love," which is quite good (though we'll let slide the kitchy faux audience cheering near the end), and the re-mixed, "I Will Get Over," from her 1993 effort, "Freedom Knows My Name." One wonders about the possibilities of commercial success if that entire album had been mixed as beautifully and professionally as this cut has been.

The joy in this compilation CD, though, is how absolutely fresh all of the songs sound, and most of the songs are 20 to 30 years old! Now: Melanie's fans could use a compilation album of her more obscure songs that are loved as much as these. Re-mastered digitally, of course! And how about a collection of her unreleased recordings? Their existance is well known and Melanie's fans won't rest until they are released on a collection as well. Re-mastered digitally, of course. How about it?

4-0 out of 5 stars THE GREATEST HITS OF MELANIE.
1999 has been a wonderful year for Melanie fans. First, Renaissance released RING THE LIVING BELL: A COLLECTION, a double disc set featuring new recordings of some of Melanie's best known songs and many new ones, with Melanie sounding better then ever. Now comes BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE: THE GREATEST HITS OF MELANIE, which is surely the one Melanie greatest hits cd to go for if you're shopping for one. The big hits are here ("Brand New Key", "Lay Down", "Look What They Done to My Song Ma"), and some really outstanding, lesser known Melanie origianls as well. "Ring the Living Bell" is easily one of the greatest songs Melanie ever wrote, and a real fun song to sing along with. "Love to Lose Again", "The Good Book", "Together Alone", "Christopher Robin" and a cover of Jim Croce's "Lover's Cross" are some of the other high-lights of this collection, all remastered and sounding new. I've never cared for Melanie's version of the Lennon/McCartry classic "Ruby Tuesday", but there's enough good stuff here to make this worthwhile, especially the full length, 7-plus minute version of "Lay Down", finally available on cd for the first time. For fans of Melanie, women artists or 70's singer/songwriters, this cd should be a welcome addition to your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars However....
I give this a 5 star rating for the 7 minute "Lay Down" and the beautifully remastered sound...HOWEVER....Where is "BITTER BAD"???? :(

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Voice
I remember listening to a great rock station in Atlanta in the late '60s. It played several of her songs and I am still in love with that raspy voice that's so unique. I do recall one song that I don't see listed on any on these releases. She did a version of the Who's "We're Not Going To Take It" and I wish I could hear it again. Maybe it's under a different title. But anyway, her voice stands out among the rest of female vocalist. She's captured my heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not a Melanie fan, _but_
I bought this cd mostly for "The Nickel Song" which I happen to think is a terrific view of life in any sort of business. I really didn't expect to like the other cuts, having stated I'm not a Melanie fan.

But guess what - I did. I had forgotten how amazing "(Lay Down) Candles in The Rain" sounded, how the gospel singers and Melanies voice worked so well together. And I even sort of like "Brand New Key" now that they don't play it on the radio station every 20 minutes. My only complaint was "Lover's Cross" - I much prefer that by Jim Croce, but considering I didn't expect to like the rest of the cd except for "The Nickel Song", I was quite surprised.

If you're a fan, buy this cd - the sound is wonderul and her voice is clear and pure on it. If you're a wishy washy fan as I was, buy it anyway and enjoy it - you'll probably be surprised how much you like Melanie's music. I know I was. ... Read more

It can't be said enough that DC Talk is one of the most relevant and critical forces of change in the history of Contemporary Christian Music. They brought the sounds and words of the streets into the consciousness of mainstream Christianity. And musically, they've done it in the most pleasing manner. This hits package is but a mere glimpse of the brilliance Toby McKeehan, Michael Tait, and Kevin Smith have displayed in so many styles throughout their 10-year career in DC Talk. There are beautiful ballads of forgiveness ("Between You and Me"), riveting rockers of conviction ("Jesus Freak"), and the quiet, stark realities of being role models ("What If I Stumble?"). New cuts "Say the Words (Now)" and "Chance" play up the sweet melodies these guys know so well. Older fans will enjoy the inclusion of "Luv Is a Verb" and "Socially Acceptable." As long as the group keeps its finger on the pulse of the mainstream and its heart focused on the Almighty, another decade of hits is a good bet. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST for any serious Christian music collection
DC Talk is back again with a collection of their best work over their last three albums, encompassing 11 years of evolution into the most dynamic and talented Christian group today. This album is a must for any serious Christian music collection, but because of the quality of the songs, would be a great buy for someone who wants to know what Christian music is all about. The CD includes two remixes, the first of which is a mainstream-ready dance mix version of "Say the Words," and two new songs: "Chance" and "SugarCoat It," which continue with DC Talk's 'pull no punches' theme of upfront, honest commentary on life. Also included on the album is "Jesus Freak", one of the best Christian songs ever written, and "Between You and Me", which had success in the mainstream market. The album is a unique blend of rock 'n roll and pop, with a little soul, harmony, and hip-hop mixed in. From the heavy rock of "Supernatural" to the heart-felt ballads of "What if I Stumble?", "I Wish We'd All Been Ready", and "My Will," this album contains a wide range of music that shows why DC Talk has been so successful: diversity. DC Talk refuses to shy away from social issues, such as racism, with pop hits like "Colored People," and DC Talk refuses to shy away from God with pop ballads like "In the Light" and "Consume Me." All in all, this album contains 17 songs, which are certain to give younger Christian music fans a taste and appreciation for the older music of DC Talk, and music fans in general a chance to see what Christian music is all about.

5-0 out of 5 stars What Can I Say: dc Talk? Hits album? Its awsome!!!
This is dc Talk at its best (all hits CDs are). This CD includes the hits like "What If I Stumble","Supernatural", "My Will", "Jesus Freak", "Consume Me", "Jesus Is Just Alright", ect. It also includes 2 remixes of old songs from the Free At Last record: "Say The Words (Now)" is and awsome remix of the original song. The original has hardly any music in it (it is mostly just drums and the electric guitar), but the remix has alot more music that express the message of the song; and the remix of "Hardway" (I can't realy tell why it is is called a remix, as it sounds JUST like the original, but it is a bit shorter than the original). The CD also includes two brand new songs, "Chance" and "SugarCoat It". "Chance" is a nice Ballad that tells how every "Chance" we get to do somthing nice for someone, we should use; "SugarCoat It" Is a kinda techno/rock/pop/rap song...????!!!???? i guess it is dc Talks whole style sumed up in one song...:) The only bad things about this CD is that it dosn't include "Since I Met You" and "My Friend (So Long)", Two AWSOME hits from the Supernatural record and that it has no song/s from the CDs Nu Thang and DC Talk. Other than that, this is a Great CD that every Christian music fan NEEDS to own...buy it...today...You won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars These are the words I want to hear!
WOW!! WOW!! WOW!! All I can say is WOW. This album is amazing, and so is DC Talk. DC Talk is my favorite "singing and dancing" group.

This album has a perfect collection of songs.

I like the version of Say The Words on this album better than the original. I REALLY LOVE the programming. Not only is it my favorite DC Talk song, it's also one of my favorite songs of all time.

By the way, I also thought I might add that DC Talk made rap music WAY better. I think they do great rapping.

Anyway this is an AWESOME album and if you like DC Talk at all you MUST buy this album. Enjoy it!

Let me say real quick to Toby Mac, Michael Tait and Kevin Max that they did an AWESOME job on this!

5-0 out of 5 stars dc Talk paved the way for Third Day, Switchfoot and others
Terrific overview of one of the most important (if not the most important) contemporary Christian group in history. Few trios, even in the secular world, are as diverse and daring as dc Talk has been to date. The gritty pieces like "Jesus Freak" from their "Jesus Freak" disc nearly 10 years ago sound as fresh today as when they were first committed to studio tape.dc's take on songwriter/artist/columnist Charlie Peacock's "In The Light" is the greatest version of that song ever, and it's one of dc Talk's top five tracks, easily. Unfortunately, only "Consume Me" and "Supernatural" are extracted from 1998's wonderful "Supernatural" LP. Still, it's hard to beat the songs that are here, even though the trio's first two discs (dc Talk, Nu Thang) aren't represented here. (Toby said in a recent CCM magazine article he wished they had waited and had "Free At Last," their third LP, be their first.)
Shame on the reviewer below who is using explicit words to describe a Christian band he supposedly liked at one time. Talk about tacky, with a capital "T." Wash your mouth, "my friend."

1-0 out of 5 stars Sell outs
I gave this album 1 star because there are virtually no songs on it from their first two. They want to forget that they started out as a rap group with two background vocalists and not a pop rock group. Even if it not as cool anymore, they must realize that the self titled tape started them off and Nu thang got them going. These are the reason that they are who they are even if they didn't get on the Billboard charts with them. Dc talk just changes with whatever is cool anyway so f#@! em. FU#! em in their stupid @!#es. They are the ones that are the ba@! lickers! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars God's emissary
This CD is more than just music. I personally believe God has used the David Crowder band, their music, and their inspired lyrics to touch countless souls like my own. Each song on this and every David Crowder CD exudes a passion I long to have in my heart. Each rythymn and each chorus pounds a strong yearning into my soul. I first heard the band at DCLA 2003, and they continue to amaze me. I hope I am blessed to hear them live again, but if not... I know I will hear their voices among the infinite number praising God when we get to heaven.

5-0 out of 5 stars It will move you!
I really highly recommend this CD. Not only because I listen to it almost daily (ever since I bought it when it was first released) but because this is truly wonderful God-inspired music. This God gifted band has very melodic songs that will stick with you. I especially like the acoustic guitar and the electric violin sounds. Even if you aren't Christian, I believe you will enjoy this soul soothing music.

Songs that I highly recommend are Everything, Wonderful King, Obsession (a remake of Delirious' song), Our Love is Loud, and My Hope.

Trust me, you won't be disappointed with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Our love is big, Our Love is Loud, Our CD is really good
Let's get to the point. Worship music is changing. Put the piano keys down and the synthesized instruments and pick up the beat box and an electric guitar. Game Over man (Michael W. Smith, Phillips Craig and Dean)! Enter David Crowder Band, with its swift acoustic/electric guitar styling, all over the concrete foundation of a solid bass beat. This album speaks to the College/High School Christian looking to grow their personal relationship with Jesus, through music. I use the example "Obsession" (delirious?) as the ultimate personal-worship-song example. And they do the original justice, plus adding their own Crowder touches. Then you have the heart pounding, foot stomping insanity that is "Our Love is Loud". What a song! As you are drawn in by the lyrics, you feel the intensity and purpose that such a song brings to your everyday Christian. "Wonderful King" also presents interesting issues on building the relationship with Jesus and focusing more on THAT fellowship first. I highly recommend this album if you fit that category of College/High School student looking for more worship music than "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever" and "Here I Am to Worship".

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellant CD
The second CD from the Crowder band was just as good, if not better than his first one. I went to a huge youth conference in Washington, D.C. this past July called DCLA and the David Crowder Band was the lead worship band there. At first I was skeptical of what this worship band might be like, but as soon as the first song started that first night, I loved them. Not only are they all very talented musicians, they love the Lord and had thousands of other teens praising and loving the Lord with them at this conference. I bought their CD when I got home (toward the end of July) and it is STILL in my car CD player today (September 6th) and has been ever since. It's an awesome CD and I recommend it to everyone! AND DON'T FORGET DAVE CROWDER BAND'S NEW CD "ILLUMINATE" HITS STORES SEPTEMBER 16TH, 2003!! Pick up "Illuminate" and "Can You Hear Us" while you're at it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome range of modern worship music
Can You Hear Us by the David Crowder Band offers the modern Christian music fan a vast array of quality worship music. Overall, the album is excellent, full of gems for you to enjoy. I especially like the fact that the band can move from one style to the next (acoustic and mellow to harder-edged guitar driven) with ease.

My favortie tracks on this CD are "God of Creation", "God of Wrath" "Wonderful King" and the title track. The CD does include a few covers which are also strong. In fact, I like the band's version of Obsession more than the original by Delirious - it is more moving.

To existing fans of modern Christian music, this CD is worth adding to your collection. If you are new, or unfamiliar with modern worship music, this album is a great starting point. It delivers an inspiring taste of some of today's great talent that exists in the Christian community. Enjoy. ... Read more

Switchfoot fly out the door, swinging from the first bouncy note of their sophomore LP, New Way to Be Human, proclaiming that having a relationship with Christ is "the only way to be human."Bothers Jon and Tim Foreman on guitar and bass, respectively, are rounded out by Chad Butler on drums, and the multilayered harmonies of these young fellows stir it up like Rembrandts on crusade. Not surprisingly, the band's sincere message coupled with samples, pop whimsy, and clean hummability have already landed them soundtrack tunes on the television shows Dawson's Creek and Party of Five. At the record's center, the acoustic "Let That Be Enough," written and recorded on the eve of Jon's 22nd birthday, eloquently captures the wonder, fear, and hunger for wholeness that all folks coming of age experience. This track is a prayer, which ultimately conveys the essence of New Way to Be Human: in the singer's words, "that Christ's love" will be enough to see him through the threshold of manhood. --Paige La Grone ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Christian music with a totally modern sound
Switchfoot is clearly one of the best Christian bands out there, and even one of the best bands overall. The sound of this band is so modern, catchy, and pleasing that you can listen to this CD over and over! Both this CD and the latest album, Learning to Breathe, are excellent works and I would recommend both of them. The first CD, Legend of Chin, has a bit of a different sound (more pop than rock) but it is still a good album. Switchfoot's lyrics are also excellent. They are very well-written and totally Christ-focused, but in a way that is more thought-provoking that preachy. Jon Foreman is an incredible vocalist as well as an incredible guitarist, and his brother Tim is a great backup as the band's bassist. Chad Butler is also a great drummer. Go and buy this CD and Learning to Breathe, because they are truly two of the best Christian CD's made in recent history! No filler, all completely good songs!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This CD is AWESOME
Who is the best-known alternative Christian band? Good question, I'd probably say DC Talk or Jars of Clay. Who is the best Christian band? Even better question, and I would have to vote for Switchfoot.

Switchfoot's first CD, "The Legend of Chin," is hard to beat. Surprisingly deep lyrics and a very mature sound made it an impressive debut. Their sophomore effort, "New Way to Be Human," definitely kept up the momentum.

Holding on to some of the style that made their first album great, Switchfoot adds a good deal of variety with this new album, showing that they can still write the solemn tear-jerkers like "Don't Be There" (from the first CD), with songs like "Let That Be Enough." They also show how they can still jam with tunes like "Company Car" and "Something More (Augustine's Confession)."

Bottom line - this is an awesome CD. Anyone should enjoy this music, not just Christian alternative fans.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best of Switchfoot
Switchfoot is one of my favorite bands and this is one of my favorite CDs. I had been to a Switchfoot concert a few years back and fell in love with their music almost immeadiatly. I quickly ran to my local Christian bookstore to pick up all three of their CD's. (This was before they had become really famous and only had three CDs). I listened to the CD at least six times before I could turn it off. It was my favorite CD at the time and quite possibly still is. Such songs as "New Way to be Human" and "Company Car" will have you singing along before you even know the words. And other more somber hits like "Only Hope" make you want to wave a lighter in the air. From the first to last song, Switchfoot will not dissapoint.

4-0 out of 5 stars Yeeeeah!
Go Switchfoot! Great album. If it wasn't for this album I wouldn't have purchased their later releases "Learning to Breathe" and "The Beautiul Letdown". Definitely a must-buy. The lyrics are awesome, the music is something to bounce to, and I'm sure anyone out there will enjoy most of the songs on it. Not their best album but I love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars GrEat cD!
This is an awesome cd with unbelievable sound and singing! I also disagree with a review shown above because everything you do in your life is worship, not just at church! So this is a great worship cd for anyone! It also appeals to non-Christians because of its sound and rhythm! Check it out! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome
Kutless is one of the many bands that have been tagged with the "Creed soundalike" in the last couple of years, and while they play similar styles, Kutless has it's own unique sound. Unlike many recent bands with this label, however, these guys are excellent. If they had not chosen to stay on a Christian label, you would have already heard a number of their songs all over the radio by now. "Run" and " Vow" in particular will bowl you over, if you are a fan of great rock music. They are the best Christian rock band to come out in a long time, and with a few more albums such as this, could be the best ever. The lead singer's voice is perfect for their style, moving seamlessly from the softer parts of the song to the heavier portions. The back-up vocals are outstanding, as is the instrumental work. There is not a bad track on the album. If you are a fan of music such as Creed, 12 Stones, Metallica, etc, you need this album for your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
In this day and age where almost every new Christian rock band gets slapped with a Creed-soundalike label, it's nice to see a band with that label that is definitely a Christian band. This band is awesome. Hard rock with wonderful lyrics. No screaming uninteligable lyrics, no rap (except for "Pride Away", which is done by a guest rapper). Just flat out rock. The message is great. These guys focus on God throughout the entire CD. They don't leave the listener trying to figure out if the band really is a Christian band. The songs are great, the sound is great, the CD is amazing. You have to buy this. So what if they sound like Creed? At least they're Christians.

5-0 out of 5 stars im not really a religious music fan....
i dispise the hardcore worship soaked crap... But i was browsing through here and came upn Kutless and i gotta say their music is great, they get the point across without diving too deeply into the religious aspects. Im the type of person that believes modern day religion is just a crutch for people whjo arent free thinkers. I believe that you dont need to read from a book thats been altered by man about what they think the teachings of God are. So ive strayed away from any type of religious music until now and i wish more bands could be like this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Lame
Kutless seems to be one of those bands signed to a record label specifically to parrot popular secular groups. The question they answer on this album is, what happens when we splice together the sounds of a dozen mediocre rock groups in the post-grunge, Staind, Nickelback, Creed vein and add uninventive Christian lyrics? The answer is not even worth a listen. Its not that the instrumentalists can't play; they are perfectly adequate, if uninventive, nor is the problem the singer's pained vocals; I think he is one of the better vocalists I have heard in this genre. Dull songwriting sends this album to the doldrums. While the opening cut, "Your Touch" starts off promising, with clever vocal syncopation in the verse, the chorus is an utterly boring, overdriven guitar waste. Additionally, the song has a drastic tempo change midway through, that does not relate at all to the rest of the song. Nearly all other cuts on the album are similarly boring, mid-tempo rockers which lack riffs, solos or any variety whatsoever. From cut to cut, there is almost no change of dynamics, tempo, mood or instrumentation. There are two exceptions. "Run" features a nice string arrangement and more poignant lyrics and vocals than the rest of the album, and "Pride Away" includes a solo by a very good guest rapper, to add some variety and intensity. One other plus; I think this album has a very cool cover. If only that were reflected in the music. It's also worth noting that there is almost to poetry, or even rhyme to these lyrics. If you like this style of music, I'd recommend 12 Stones, or any of the mainstream groups this band is trying to imitate, over Kutless.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great rock CD for the Christian or Alternative music fan!
This is a great CD, it really rocks. They have great guitar and vocals. To top it off, the lyrics are great and these guys love the Lord! The song "Run" is an absolute classic, from a different point of view. The following song, "Vow" is my favorite on the CD. It really shows the truths of the Christian walk and the difficulties it brings, but the reward in heaven is worth it!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing new band
I first heard of Anberlin at a Relient K concert in November of 2003. On stage, their instruments were too loud and their mics too low. Therefore they came off like some heavy-metal-thrash band. After seeing the CD in my church library, I borrowed it on a whim. My concert experience taught me that any band can have a bad live show once and still rock, because this turns out to be one of the best up-and-coming rock bands out there.

The top 5 tracks are:

1. Readyfuels
Fast paced, awesome vocals. Great opening track.

2. Foreign Language
Tongue-in-cheek aimed at us teens and how girls seem to make no sense to guys.

3. Change the World (Lost Ones)
Very inspiring and at times haunting track about how the youth of America today have the power to change their world.

7. Autobahn
Fun song about freedom while sailing down a highway with the girl you love at your side. A personal favorite.

9. Love Song
Fantastic cover of the Cure hit, much better than 311's popular new cover.

AnBerlin are on Tooth-and-Nail records, a fantastic indie label sporting bands like Further Seems Forver and the Juliana Theory. Comprised of Christian members, the band lives their faith but doesn't force it down anyone's throat with their music. Think of these guys on the same level as Switchfoot, just a punk style.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
All of the pop-punk, rap-rock and generic pop music you MTV kids are listening to today has really got me sick. THANK GOD Anberlin has come around to hopefully show the mainstream that good progressive/alternative ROCK blows any Good Charlotte or Limp Bizkit out of the water. The emotion is intense, the lyrics are thought provoking, the arrangement of songs are clever and the whole CD just plain rocks. I have seen Anberlin live twice already and while that is the best way to experience any band, some of you won't have that opportunity. But you can at least buy this CD so you won't totally miss out on this amazing band. I guarantee you will not be dissapointed. Oh yeah, and they're all really nice friendly people. Especially the lead-singer, Steve. Hopefully they will stay this way and not become corrupted by MTV. Yes, their video for "Readyfuels" will premiere on MTV2 this month (February) but I'm keeping my fingers crossed... and just another piece of information, they're recording their new CD in July and it will be released in November (of 2004 of course). BUT DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS AWESOME MUSIC!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Anberlin : A New Band Rising
A definate 5 star, Blueprints for the Black Market is cunning from beginning to end. "Love Song" "Change The World" and "Ready Fueld" are phenomenal, the songs are masterful and lyrical. Its not a very new release but this is truly music that is easily to get attached to, makes you want to just sing along. Dancible rock beats, great hooks, power packed guitars and solid drumming makes Anberlin a perfect KO in the rock ring. there are a lot of harmonies on the songs and they come off very strong, there is very good blending vocally on the songs. It is just so wonderfully made, It is a MUST LISTEN.

5-0 out of 5 stars Purevolume.com rocks (literally)!
Hey I just wanted to say "Way to go!" to David who said he heard about Anberlin on www.purevolume.com. That is a great site!! Everyone should go to it and check it out...you can listen to and download music from awesome artists. And while you are there, check out Ten On Sunday.... they are awesome! Oh, by the way, Anberlin is great! Hahaha.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Music

A teen pop star whose fleeting fame was usurped by that of Donnie Osmond, Keith Green--former runaway and rock & roll bad boy--went from rabble-rouser to born-again Christian in the aftermath. By the mid-'70s he and his wife, songwriter Melody Green, dedicated their full lives and musical abilities to their faith, forming the still active Last Days Ministry, in which the music played a central focus. Tragically, Green died in a 1982 plane crash and his short but prolific career thus became of greater poignancy to the evangelical Christian community left in the wake of his passing. Green's musical message, piano pop with hard-line born-again themes and lyrics showcasing his theatrical vocals ("Most people don't find out till they're half dead / That they need another life"), is presented in total on this posthumously issued volume of The Ministry Years. --Paige La Grone ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A true inspiration
Wow! I've been tremendously blessed by the ministry of Keith (and Melody) Green. His songs have always been an inspiration to me and I would strongly recommend this CD to anyone whose love, craving and passion for the Lord is way beyond ordinary. The words of these songs are truly inspired by the Holy Spirit and would leave you with a refreshing that only the Holy Spirit can give. I first heard his music when I was 12 and I fell in love with it the very first time. I've been especially blessed by songs like "soften your heart", "I can't believe it", "Asleep in the light", "When I hear the praises start", "To obey is better than sacrifice", "Dust to dust", "Make my life a prayer to you", "How can they live without Jesus", "Altar call", "My eyes are dry" and much more. His unique blend of pop, contemporary and classic style makes his music worth listening to, and EVERY one of his songs has a unique message in itself. This has got to be God speaking through a life that has been totally sold out to His kingdom. Although Keith is now with the Lord, his music has continued to be an inspiration in my life and I praise God for the good work He has done through his son Keith Green. To Him be all the Glory.

5-0 out of 5 stars 20 years later, Keith's music and message live on
Keith Green was one of the first people to do Jesus Music in the late 70's. He was friends with other pioneers of Christian music like 2nd Chapter of Acts (Matthew Ward, Annie Herring and their sister Nellie) and Randy Stonehill. Keith was killed tragically in a plane crash on his own property in 1982.

Like another artist who died too young, Rich Mullins, Keith was different. He didn't really belong here. He points the way to the only source of everlasting life - Jesus Christ. Though this music was recorded a long time ago, I don't think it sounds dated like some of the other early CCM - perhaps because Keith wasn't going to be around to write new stuff?? That's just something that I've thought about.

To get fully-acquainted with Keith and his ministry, you also need to read his biography, written by his wife Melody Green "No Compromise". Also, there is a video/DVD biography of his life that was just released.

This double CD set has SO many awesome songs on it. The popular worship song "There is a Redeemer" is on the first disc, along with "Love Broke Thru" and "You Put a Song In My Heart".

The second disc has "Easter Song", "Make My Life a Prayer to You", "He'll Take Care of the Rest", "I Don't Want to Fall Away from You", and one of my favorites, "Rushing Wind":

Rushing Wind

Rushing wind blow through this temple,
Blowing out the dust within,
Come and breathe you breath upon me,
I've been born again.

If you read the book, you will learn that Sparrow tried to record the vocals and the piano tracks separately, but the music just fell flat. The energy and the spirit of Keith's music wouldn't come out of his mouth unless he was playing the piano while he was singing! Once they started recording the whole thing together, it worked!

This album contains many live tracks and I know you will be blessed by this music!

Please check out my reviews of other Christian music and Christian books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Though dead he still speaks
Without a doubt Keith Green was a man God called to prophesy through song to his own generation and those who would follow. The songs are absolutely powerful. Keith was taken home to be with the Lord at the ripe old age of 28! Though he is dead he still speaks today. Some might not care too much for the style of his music, as it is a piano-popish sound, not too different than some stuff you might would hear from Elton John... except it is anointed. However, I think if you allow the style to grow on you a bit, you will be greatly blessed. ... Read more

When this material originally resurfaced in an earlier Rhino-celebrates-the-'70s program, many rock scribes contorted themselves into revisionist pretzels: this isn't so bad, they argued--none too convincingly. There'll be none of that here: much of the music on this colossal box set is godawful. The world doesn't miss the likes of Sammy ("Chevy Van") Johns and Sammy ("Candy Man") Davis. Or at least it doesn't miss the records they cut during the decade of disaster flicks and Jonathan Livingston Seagull. That said, this elaborate box is something to behold. The lovingly compiled 92-page booklet provides background on the ridiculous (David Soul, C.W. McCall, Carl Douglas) and the sublime (Parliament, James Brown, the Staple Singers), and the music swings on the same pendulum, with Harry Chapin, Bill Withers, and Cat Stevens sitting amid Wayne Newton, The Captain & Tennille, and Meco's jittery electro-take on the Star Wars theme. Seven discs, 160 selections! To paraphrase a popular ad slogan of the era, you won't believe you listened to the whole thing. --Steven Stolder ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Right Down To The Puke Green Carpet
Being born in 1970,and growing up around alot of this music,HAND had to be in my music collection.
Hearing these songs bring back memories good(The Candy Man)& bad(Disco Duck,Convoy)as well as introducing me to long forgotten tunes(Chevy Van,Alone Again)as well as those that should've remain forgotten(Afternoon Delight).
But like all era compilations not everything could fit or be licensed(Springsteen,Elton, solo Beatles). So for every song I wanted on HAND(Tighter,Tighter,Loving You)there are those I'm glad wasn't included(Playground on my Mind)

This is one "boss" collection that puts to rest the old pessimistic saying: "you can't go home again". Memory Lane is NOT a dead-end street, but is in fact a super highway which you can cruise via this 7-disc set. This music caused us to walk around with a transistor radio stuck in our ear. This music was king before FM radio became cool. The box set contains 160 of the greatest hits from the 70's, plus an unbelievable collector's book, featuring clips about the artists, the songs, and what was going on in America at that time. Whoever thought up the packaging with the cover made up of a smiley face mini shag carpet deserves a raise of major proportions. On a scale of 1-10, I give it an unqualified 11. Buy it...you'll love it!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great way to revisit to joys of '70s AM radio
Perhaps my favorite box set. This reminds me so much of listening to KYA or KFRC (two top-40 stations in San Francisco in the 1970's), when you would here rock, then country, then pop, then novelty songs. A fantastic blend. Favorite songs include: Popcorn, Chick-A-Boom(hadn't heard this since the '70s), Love Goes, More More More, Love Rollercoaster, School's Out, Dueling Banjos, Candy Man, Rose Garden, and I could go on. One star is missing due to

a. Some songs are cut
b. Some songs I would have liked to see(licensing would have been an issue on some) include
My Sharona by The Knack(biggest hit of 1979)
Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees
Bennie & the Jets by Elton John
Escape(The Pina Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes
I Think I Love You by The Partridge Family
Gonna Fly Now(Theme From Rocky)
Silly Love Songs by Paul McCartney and Wings
Beth by Kiss
If You Leave Me Now by Chicago
Dancing Queen by Abba
We've Only Just Begun by The Carpenters
(Take Me Home) Country Roads by John Denver
Nadia's Theme

All of the above were major top 10 hits(most were big number #1s)

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta Love The 70s
If you buy this Box Set, you'll get 160 songs on seven disc's. If you've already bought all 25 Volumes of the Have A Nice Day collection, you will notice that the Box Set and the Volumes have 73 songs in common, but I would buy the 25 Volumes because 227 songs DON'T appear on this Box Set.

My formative years have been spent listening to these songs through neighbors and friends who had the albums and also through many of the long car trips to and from family gatherings. I recognize most of the music, although there are a few songs that I don't. For me, personally, listening to these songs is a wonderful journey I like to take every now and then. If you feel the same way, I recommend buying this set.

FOR HEAVY METAL FANS - There's no AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Ted Nugent, UFO, early Van Halen, KISS, etc. This Box Set and the Volumes concentrate on the less heavier side of the 70's. Those hoping to find these groups should avoid buying this.

FOR THE 70's COMPLETEST - Buy this Box Set new, but buy the 25 Have A Nice Day Volumes used. In my opinion, the Volumes aren't worth more than $8 each. The Box Set disc's have over 20 songs per disc whereas the individual Volumes only have, on the average, 10 to 12 songs per disc.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Hodgepodge of 70s Rock & Pop
Sure, the decade of the 70s was kind of cheesy-particularly the fact that everything was BIG & LOUD(the clothes, the shoes, the hair, etc.)! It was also a fun decade in that I was in high school from late '69-'73 when more than half of these tunes were huge radio hits. All in all this is the soundtrack of my teenage years. Once I ventured out into the working world in the summer of '73 the latter half of these songs were either on my turntable or in my 8-track player(God, who can forget those annoying things & their incessant CLICKS). As always, RHINO put together a fine mix of songs, but for my money, the 70s collection ROCK & ROLL RELIX is far superior because they've mixed in plenty of soul/r&b hits among the rock, pop & novelty tunes. Still highly recommended for collectors of 70s hits. ... Read more
