As the lead female voice of family gospel band the Staple Singers, Mavis Staples has shown more than a little faith across four decades, using her voice as a powerful instrument in the battle for civil rights and the eternal struggle for salvation (as well as pop hits). Here, on her first CD of new material since 1993's Prince-produced The Voice, the 64-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer seems relaxed. That's why acoustic treatments of tunes like "Step Into the Light" and the Blind Lemon Jefferson tribute "A Dying Man's Plea" sound so good wrapped around her warm honey-and-grits tones, with slide guitars and fiddles following the easy flow of her melodies. Nonetheless, there's a simmering intensity to her performances, though she eases for sweet recollections in the uplifting biography of her late father Roebuck, "Pop's Recipe." Yet Staples always remains strong enough to render the disc's overabundance of lite-funk arrangements irrelevant. --Ted Drozdowski ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GLORIOUS
Up until a few months ago, I had never heard of Martha Munizzi, how I'm not sure. I certainly thought my music collection was up to date. God is so great, because He allowed a sister from church to suggest this cd to me. To convince me to purchase it-she allowed me to borrow it for a few days. I was/still am simply blown away by the power and grace of Mrs. Munizzi's voice. From the first song to the last, I sang, laughed, danced, rejoiced, cried and more than anything praised God. The Lord is so beautiful and its evident in the anointing He has placed on Martha Munizzi. I can't help but tell everyone I know about her, get the cd, you will be blessed. I pray that the Lord will continue to prosper and move Ms. Munizzi and her family (husband who's also awesome) into the lives of many-there is deliverance in this music. If you are wondering if you should by this CD-buy it you won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST of The Best
To feel the presence of God is one thing you won't miss when you hear the words God delivers through Martha Munizzi's powerful songs of praise and worship. This is an awesome CD and all I can say is "Martha's done it again" with another hit album. You will truly be blessed!

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
I simply was going out on a date when my date told me that he had this CD that I would like. I listened to the whole CD and I loved it. Every song was inspirational and joyful. I praised GOD in my car with this CD. I don't want to return it until I buy me one. Everyone that LOVES THE LORD should buy this CD

Over the course of five mesmerizing CDs, Unearthed shows us just how Johnny Cash's now-legendary handful of recordings for American Records came to be. Four discs feature previously unreleased tracks from the famed Rick Rubin-produced sessions. Through their inconsistencies and quirks (and, more often than not, brilliance), they shed light on how Cash's final records were shaped, edited, and produced. Here we get some creative pairings: Fiona Apple providing guest vocals on Cat Stevens' "Father & Son," and the late Joe Strummer duetting with Cash on Bob Marley's "Redemption Song." Neither are the definitive statements that some of Cash's covers from this period are (his glorious takes on Nick Lowe and Danzig, to name just two), but they're still very much worth hearing. Most riveting are the numerous traditional numbers, the songs that were clearly closest to the Man in Black's heart. "Banks of the Ohio," Billy Joe Shaver's "Old Chunk of Coal," Stephen Foster's "Hard Times," and the entire disc of previously unreleased gospel tunes are powerful statements, tunes where you feel privilegedto hear Cash--despite declining health and failing voice--sing one more time, the way he wanted. The last disc of this monumental set is a "best-of" compilation of tracks that did make it on the American individual discs, a reminder of just how groundbreaking these sessions were. Perhaps the biggest highlight in this awe-inspiring set is its vast liner notes, a loving collection of essays and recollections that highlight the history and stories behind this eclectic array of songs. --Jason Verlinde ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A fitting finale!
As one who has chronicaled Johnny Cash's recording career in four books I will not take up a lot of space in reviewing the 5-CD boxed set. I recently spent a week on the road with Marty Stuart and he asked me what I thought of John's entire association with American Records. I likened the years since 1993 to the early Sun years. The music was not "perfect" in the musical sense of the word...but it was Johnny Cash, pure and simple. And this shows up very clearly on this current 5-CD set. It is easy to pick out the procession of John's American career as one listens to each selection. The early material obviously included a stronger Cash. But the 2002/2003 recordings are just as pure and simple. The voice has changed but the songs are still "Johnny Cash." Just as the Bear Family boxed sets included the Cash Sun career and the beginnings so does the American set act as a fitting finale to the that illustrous career. This current set is important and will remain a true legacy from a man who touched so many in his life time.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
What an awesome package. Its hard to find the words to describe how much good music is in this little black box or how the hair stood up on my arms time and time again when I listened to it. The first CD and the Hymn Book record, with Johnny's voice all raw and naked and full of feeling, would be worth the price alone. But there's two more CDs of absolutely mind blowing stuff. (I'm not counting the compilation since all of Mr Cash's fans would already have these records ). And the book that comes with it is not just the usual booklet of uninteresting information, but a real book with totally brilliant writing and interviews by Sylvie Simmons, who wrote the great Serge Gainsbourg book (that lady has some interesting tastes in music!) If you only buy one box set ever in your life, trust me, this is the one you want. Johnny Cash must be smilling in heaven rite now.
Rick Rubin has really done the man in black proud

5-0 out of 5 stars If This doesn't move You then nothin' will
I cried the day the Man in Black died and also after listening to this collection. Hard to imagine how the Neil Young covers didn't make it on any of the 4 "American Recordings". The booklet that comes with this box is worth the price of admission alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Impresionante

5-0 out of 5 stars I don't even like country music!
I'm not a country music fan by any means, although my musical tastes are eclectic, ranging from 60's surf music, to Frank Sinatra, to Goth metal -- depending on what mood I'm in. In a CD store I was drawn to a display of Johnny Cash's "My Mothers Hymn Book." It sounded interesting, so I bought it - sort of on impulse. Well "My Mothers Hymn Book" is so good thet I rushed to Rhapsody to hear more Cash! "Unearthed" is extraordinarily deep, spiritual, human, and life affirming! Many of the songs are simply Johnny's heartfelt deep voice with his accoustic guitar or other simple accompaniment. There are also some interesting guests (Fiona Apple, for example). Cash captures life at its very essence. "Unearthed" is timeless! No fluff here -- Just raw life in all its glory and grace. I love it! Buy it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome awesome
for all those bashing Kutless putting out a worship album, what the freak are u talking about.I bet all my money that every christian band out there started out loving worship songs and playing them on their acoutics.using their voices and talents for worship music is awesome, if not innovative.if u dont like worship music, then go back to their first two albums, if not check this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Praise From Mother-and-Daughter Fans
"Strong Tower" is certainly a departure from Kutless' previous two CDs, but no less a true keeper.I (a 35-year-old mother and fan of alternative rock since late 1980s) have all 3 of their CDs that my teenage daughter is forever confiscating them for her own singing & listening pleasure.Currently, we're both on a "Strong Tower" binge. When a parent & child enjoys listening to the same sounds, I think that's a pretty cool thing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Missed Opportunity
Kutless is undeniably blessed with musical talent.Produced by Aaron Sprinkle (of Poor Old Lu and solo artist fame), they seemed to be lined up for a successful rockin' worship album.Alas, for reasons unknown the band released too little creative license to make any of the selected tracks stand out.For example, "Take me in" is the perfect song for Kutless, just begging for a 2nd stanza to be written.Instead, the band simply repeats the 1st stanza over again...exactly like they performed it 30 seconds ago."Word of God Speak" is too new to be covered...everyone still likes the original.Instead, I would rather have seen the talents of Kutless applied to some youth group favorites like "I Surrender" or a Promise Keepers tune like "Knowing You."Maybe next time...

Will you listen over and over again?Probably not. Highly recommend Jars of Clay's "Redemption Songs" instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Rock" praise and worship at it's best. !

5-0 out of 5 stars What to expect
I bought this album even though I didn't care for "Sea of Faces". This one I absolutely love because the music is not too hard and every song is spiritualy centered, which is what I didn't like about "Sea of Faces". The sound I go for in CCM is that of Caedmon's Call, Third Day, Casting Crowns, and Jars of Clay. Though being harder rock than these guys, this album fits into my collection nicely and I highly recomend it. If you like this edgy sound of P&W you should also check out emerging artists Decemberadio's latest albums (double release) "Noise" & "Dangerous". You can find them at Decemberadio.com. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Stellar. There is no equal.
David Crowder Band's new CD "Illuminate" hits the highest highs and never lets go of the excellence it portrayed in its original small release album. Those unfamiliar with DCB should know that its hallmark is creating modern worship music that rocks the house at the same time. Fused with techno-beats and returning heavy guitar sounds, the album is an excellent collection of songs that is worth getting. Sure-fire hits are: "O Praise Him", "Revolutionary Love", and "No One Like You." In addition, David Crowder's lyrics and one-of-a-kind voice never fail to inspire awe.

Even more comprehensive and diverse in sound than their second album "Can You Hear Us?", "Iluminate" has plenty of songs to keep you on the ledge between sheer worship and modern rock, enjoying every moment along the way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond the Music
While I hae to agree with all of the great reviews on this site, I think this CD goes WAY beyond the music. Yes, the music is great, the production quality outstanding, but the spirit behind these things is so beautiful and pure. A trait that is lacking even in much of the other music of the same genre. God is clearly here.

What David Crowder (& Band) has successfully communicated through this amazing piece of art is complete surrender to the glorious and beautiful Being of God. I haven't been able to stop listening to it since I purchased it several weeks ago because the very essence of God inhabits the intimate spaces carved out in these songs. How appropriate. God inhabits the praises of his people, and so I am continually drawn into a deep, living God Space when I listen. And that's exactly what true worship should be. THIS is a band that really gets it.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
I bought this CD when it came out, after DCB was the worship band at our church camp in Colorado Summer '03. They're awesome. Their music is very unique and powerful. I love being able to worship with them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible...Real...Honest...Joyful
I finally picked up this CD yesterday after hearing and loving "O Praise Him" for almost a year now,and I have yet to take it out of my CD player! I'm almost kicking myself for waiting so long to buy this CD, but the self-imposed wait was definitely well worth it. The album starts out with a call to worship in "Sparks Fly," and then the sparks really do fly once "Revolutionary Love." The overwhelming kinetic and frenetic energy of "Revolutionary Love" continues all the way through the first half of the CD, and it's not until "All Creatures #2" that sounds begin to cool down, but by no mean to they lose their fierce intensity. The band melds all their instruments so well together, from guitars to drums and everything in between. They produce a strong sound that's addicting to listen to, and David Crowder's voice soars above them all with a crystal clear clarity.

Perhaps the biggest draw of this CD and the band itself is the honesty that rings throughout all the songs. These guys not only play incredibly joyous and uplifting music, you can tell they truly believe the words they are singing. It rings clearly in their voice that they came into the studio not to merely to record a CD but to worship the Lord, and this CD is not some formulaic album like most of pop (including Christian pop) records offer; this album has a wide variety of hard rock, alternative, soft/meditative music, and a whole host of other musical styles.

For a joyous, real, and inspiring addition to your library, be sure to pick up this CD!

5-0 out of 5 stars David Crowder has done it again!
David Crowder has done it again! By far Illuminate is The David Crowder Band's best album to date. Giving you a prefect mixture of fast paced guitar rifts on the acoustic and up beat rhythms with slower more worshipful songs. The focus of praise and worship on this album is clear from the very first track and it is perhaps one of the most complete and solid worship albums out there. However, people not familiar with The David Crowder Band may, at first, not like the overall sound of the album; but Illuminate quickly grows on you as it offers a concrete and honest worship experience. For the most part the album never grows old, it is the prefect kind to put on repeat and leave it playing throughout the entire day. This album leaves you wanting here it again, with its meaningful lyrics that stretch your devotion and give God proper praise, the album offers such songs as How Great, O Praise Him, Open Skies, and No One Like You. Part of the reason this album is so good is because you, the listener, is able sense a real heart of worship from the band. I guarantee that you will love this album, if not at first, then after a few listenings. I give Illuminate a rock solid 5 out of 5. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't be mislead.
The heart of this young man and group are truly about worshiping and praising God. As I read the review people wrote about this CD I had to comment:

1: We constantly hear about God speaking in a "Today Generation" voice. Well if you're listening he's speaking loud and clear.

2: "No Way," He is not saying that we can't live our lives w/o God, but what he saying is why would you want to? Whether that be eating, brushing my teeth, or combing my hair.
Everything we do...do unto God.

This is CD is awesome, listen to the heart of the man instead of just a beat that might be for some church goers too radical. God is a radical God and uses radical people who aren't afraid to do what needs to be done. READ YOUR WORD and you will find that out.

Go Tye & G.A.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular debut!
I am the minister of music at my church and it takes something special for an artist to become one of my favorites on their debut, but Tye Tribbett and GA made me want to share how much I LOVE this debut project. The message of Jesus and his redeeming power is loud and clear. My favorites are of course "My Joy" featuring John P. Kee, "Everything", "The Answer", and most definitely, "Look Back". But in all fairness I love every song on the CD! It is truly one you can just let play from beginning to end. I look forward to future projects as I am now an avid fan of Tye Tribett and GA!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very GOOd
I think this CD was great. But on "NO WAY" I think some of the things he says is really dumb. NO WAY..CANT EVEN BRUSH MY TEETH...but overall it was good

1-0 out of 5 stars Disgrace! Secular Music All the Way
This CD is horrible. I believe in praising God in the beauty of holiness and there is nothing holy about this CD or their live performance. They make a mockery of the church.

5-0 out of 5 stars Addictive!!
It feels like i've been waiting forever for their CD to come out.....but the Promises of GOD never fail....they just don't come when we want them to. Tye and G.A. have Faithfully been dedicated to GOD's work and HOLY business. Which explains why this CD is ripping traditions (In the same manner JESUS did with the Viel-read up on your wordd). I've known Tye and G.A. for the last 8yrs...and all i can recall is the Annointing getting Greater! 16 tracks may seem like alot...but when it's in your CD player...it's not enough! I truly enjoy this CD. Bottom line! I strongly encourage you to purchase and enjoy aswell. To Tye and G.A.: Keep reaching for that Greater Annointing! It's that Army dudde!LOL!! ... Read more

Although there's only one new original on Iris DeMent's first release in eight years, the music throughout ranks with the most personal she has made. DeMent's quavering vocals invest this collection of traditional spirituals with an unwavering conviction. "This is my story," she sings on "Blessed Assurance," written more than 130 years ago. "This is my song." In her liner notes, the Arkansas-raised artist explains how these were the first songs she remembers hearing, and that this music has always provided comfort during hard times, a comfort that isn't necessarily (or at least not narrowly) religious. On "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "God Walks the Dark Hills," DeMent accompanies herself on stately solo piano, and the emotion is as pure as the arrangement is unadorned. On other tracks, DeMent and co-producer Jim Rooney enlist homespun support from kindred spirits such as guitarists Mark Howard and Bo Ramsey and a call-and-response chorus of harmonizers including Stuart Duncan. The self-penned composition, "He Reached Down," is a folkish recasting of the Biblical "Good Samaritan" parable. Even listeners who don't share the faith expressed in these songs will have trouble resisting the unflinching intimacy of the performances. --Don McLeese ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Funky Christian Music
Fred Hammond gained my appeal when he was with Commissioned. I love Christian music that is soulful with a strong message that honors, glorifies and praises Jesus Christ. This CD does just that. The instrumentation is top notch and catches your attention first, then on the second and subsequent listens, you hear strong messages of salvation, redemption, peace and more. I listened to 30 second samples of some of the songs and read reviews to help decide if I wanted to purchase this CD. The samples do no justice to how beautiful the songs really are and the quality of the lyrics. You really have to trust that Fred is a true artist, musician and God-filled man. The CD contains quality, uplifting, soulful and peaceful music. You will find at least 4 to 5 top-notch songs here. Thank you, Fred for your inspiration and contribution to great Christian music!

5-0 out of 5 stars Put 'cho hands togetha'...
... for this phat project. Fred has done it once again. Somethin' bout Love is surely one of his best. The lyrics are heartfelt and the production is off the charts. I can't keep this one out of the CD player much like I did with Purpose, POL 1&2, and Commissioned Reunion. This album has somewhat of a Commissioned feel but on a higher plane. If you don't got it you better get it. It compliments TONEX's out the box real well.

Noteworthy songs include..
Celebrate(He Lives)
Not Just What You Say
Lord We Need Your Love
A Closer Walk
Your Love Is
What Can I Give?
How Do You Love That Way?
Your Name Is Jesus

5-0 out of 5 stars 10 Stars
If there were a way to give this CD ten stars I would. "Something Bout Love" falls right in line with what I have come to expect for this minister of praise and worship. Listening to a Fred Hammond CD always stirs up the spirit. I always come away with the realization that this artist has a definite love for the Lord and it urges me to go higher. I am never disappointed with a Fred Hammond release.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another reaffirmation of Fred's genius
Fred Hammond is one of the most gifted songwriters/arrangers/musicians on the planet. His songs never fail to uplift and inspire, nor do they ever get old.

I applaud Fred for trying something different with the praise and worship vibe of his previous project, but Somethin' 'Bout Love finds him in his true element of classic and contemporary soul/R&B arrangements, with plenty of melodies to help The Message stick with you. This set is a true extension of the musical ideas and themes found on the original Pages Of Life.

Any missteps here? If one had to nitpick, it could be argued that the Stevie Wonder tune Love's In Need has already been covered to death; but even then, Fred's arrangement manages to breathe life into that old soldier.

But again, that's nitpicking.

This is Fred's best project since the original Pages Of Life...and that's saying something, since no one has yet topped that one in artistic continuity -- including Minister Hammond himself. But Somethin' 'Bout Love comes mighty close to at least equalling that masterpiece, and belongs in your spiritual and/or mainstream music collection. It really is a wonderful piece of work that will stand the test of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vintage Fred
Fred Hammond still impresses me with his musical spiritual insight and abilities. His life experiences, trials and tribulations definitely are spoken through his words. I think any person could enjoy the musical talents of Fred Hammond. He is my favorite artist. I believe he is the best!! You will not be disappointed with Somethin''Bout Love. Fred Hammond continues to improve and gets better with age. All of Fred's music is worth purchasing and they are rated 5's in my book. The words relates to spiritual struggles this why I enjoy his music. Purchase Somethin''Bout Love. It's worth it!!! Believe me!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A good addition for praise and prayer
This is definitely a good addition for my praise music and prayer music. My favorite song is "We Need The Glory" cause I love songs that prays for the shekinah glory of God and be saturated in His presence. The song also has anointing to it. I also like the song "Take My Life (Holiness)" and "Come Holy Spirit" . When it comes to praise music I like "Worthy to be Praised", "Sing", and "He's Great". The song "War Cry" is a good song for exhortation. So this album is definitely worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars TOO AWESOME FOR WORDS
I fell in love with Micah Stampley's ministry when I heard "Take My Life". I eagerly anticipated his solo release and on March 29, I was not disappointed- and neither will you when you purchase this! I didn't care too much for "At Your Heart's Door" but the message was needed just the same.

My Standout Favs:
War Cry
We Need The Glory
Come, Holy Spirit

5-0 out of 5 stars A Refreshing Addition to the Gospel Tradition
I wanted to be the first one to write a review for this up and coming gospel artist because he is worth a listen. I am not ashamed to say that I grew up in the type of Church where music played an integral part. I long for the type of songs that stay with you long after the service is over. Micah Stampley's debut album reminds me of that special music. I would categorize this album as "Traditional" gospel because it would not necessarily be considered cross-over music. Stampley makes no apologies for appealing to the church. In an online interview, Stampley simply states "The songs on this project cry out for people to return to the reason we were created - solely to worship Him. I want this to be a reminder that the real soldiers don't compromise." It is no wonder he has been affectionately dubbed the "Psalmist of the hour".

War Cry is the type of praise song that will get you up on your feet and make you feel like you are right there in the choir. The tempo is funky and upbeat and Stampley's voice is reminescent of Donnie McClurkin's in pitch as he actually demonstrates a high pitched war cry several times during the song. The chorus will have you repeating "This is the war cry...of the warriors...pick up your weapons: fight, fight! This is the war cry, of the warriors, pick up your weapons, fight, fight! This is the war cryyyyyyy...of the warriooooooorrrrss..."

The song Worthy To Be Praised reminds you that it's ok to "get happy" when you are singing. In fact, it's a celebration of that. The chorus is infectious:

Ha, Hallelujah, Ha, Hallelujah
You're worthy to be praised
Ha Hallelujah, Ha Hallelujah
You're worthy to be praised!
From the rising of the sun
til the setting of the same
you're worthy to be praised

This is a praise song designed to get you into it as the repetition of "Ha, Ha's" make you literally feel like rejoicing. It is definitely a feel good song.

Another good song to get you up and tapping is The Well which is a song about being filled up with God until it overflows. It is a bubbly song that gets your toe tapping.

I think that Micah's gift shines best when he sings ballads. Take My Life (Holiness) is a ballad and a worship song that showcases Stampley's signature: an incredible range. You can hear his amazing vocal adeptness when he climbs an entire octave while delivering the chorus:

Take my heart and form it
Take my mind and transform it
Take my will and conform it
To Yours, to Yours, Oh Lord

Your emotions will soar with each and every octave.

I heard that song live at a concert at the Potter's House (T. D. Jakes) and immediately bought the CD so that I could replay it on my drive back home. Surprisingly the emotion translates to CD as well as it did in the concert.

The entire album is well put together with a little bit for everyone. This is a good mix:
Praise songs:
Worthy To Be Praised, 5/5
Sing, 3/5
The Well, 4/5
Worship songs:
Come, Holy Spirit 4/5
I Need Thee, 5/5
I Am Redeemed, 4/5
We Need the Glory, 4/5
At Your Heart's Door, 2/5
Take My Life (Holiness), 5/5
Funky get-out-of-your-seat songs:
War Cry, 5/5
He's Great, 5/5

I also recommend T.D. Jakes' Hemotions CD which also introduced Stampley and features Smoky Norful ... Read more

Chevelle’s haunting, booming, and vitriolic sophomore release opens with a song about three brothers called "Family System" Given that the three Loeffler brothers comprise Chevelle, it's easy to imagine the source of the song. Singer/guitarist Pete, drummer Sam, and bassist Joe have an intuitive gift for melding melody and intense, brutal passion in a manner that recalls at various times Live, Taproot, and Tool. From the brutal plea of the dynamic "Forfeit" to the bombast of"An Evening with El Diablo," Chevelle’s earnest, less then groundbreaking modern rock captures an intensity that almost makes up for a sometimes cookie-cutter musical vibe. --Katherine Turman ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Genius
I had only heard the name Chevelle hear and there and had never heard them until awhile ago. I heard Closure on the radio and decided to buy the CD. I was totally satisfied. It was worth every penny. I love songs 1,2,3,4,5,7,10, and 11.
1. Family System: Hard rock song. 10/10
2. Comfortable Liar: Great all around song to listen to. 10/10
3. Send the Pain Below: Good song, but I dont think it deserves all the credit it got. 9/10
4. Closure: Awesome. The perfect balance of screaming and distortion. 10/10
5. The Red: I absolutely love this song. It is the best song ever. 10/10
6. Wonder What's Next: Eh...okay, I guess. 6/10
7. Don't Fake This: I love the chorus and verse. 10/10
8. Forfeit: Pretty good song, but I don't like how it stops before the chorus. 7/10
9. Grab Thy Hand: Okay song. 8/10
10. An Evening With El Diablo: Awesome song. 10/10
11. One Lonely Visitor: I don't listen to it much, but it just demonstrates Chevelle's musical abilities. 9/10

In conclusion, GO BUY THIS CD! I think Chevelle has more screaming potential they don't use, but what the heck, its awesome anyway. If you aren't sure if you should get it, get it! the red, closure, and send the pain below arent the only good songs. I give this album 10/10!!

5-0 out of 5 stars greatest cd ever made? Quite Possibly
This could possibly be one of the best cds ever made. Every song has emotion and certain anguish to the lyrics. Pete, the singer, is a man who knows to write lyrics. From the Melodic intro of "Family System", to the angry tone of "The Red", to the ultimatly eerie "An Evening With El Diablo", This cd has what it takes.

1. Family System - Great intro, very heavy. 8/10
2. Comfortable Liar - This is the 2nd best song on the album. Very good. 9/10
3. Send the Pain Below - The 3rd best song on the album. 9/10
4. Closure - This song is ok not the best though. 5/10
5. The Red - I am sure everyone has heard this song. 4th best off the album 10/10
6. Wonder Whats Next - Possibly the Hardest song on the album. Very Heavy. 8/10
7. Dont Fake This - Very Nice song, Great melodie. 9/10
8. Forfeit - great song, i like the lyrics. 9/10
9. Grab Thy Hand - another great song 7/10
10. An Evening With El Diablo - This is the Best Song off the entire album. It is very eerie. 10/10
11. One Lonely Visitor - I dont like this song. 1/10

Overall You need to get this cd. It is great for when your angry.

5-0 out of 5 stars HANDS DOWN
I've been a tool fan for a long time, loved all of their stuff, but as soon as i decieded to check out this new band called Chevelle i was blown away and Tool was history. Never had i heard such great songs before. To start off, i noticed they use incredible lyrics with such depth and feeling. Even if you dont understand it, it just leaves you in wonder and excitement. You feel drawn ever closer to it everytime you listen. Secondly it has pumping metal through out it like crazy. Like tool it has low-voiced sharp lyrics and then goes to screaming tension within all a controlled pace, something i havent seen in a long time. Instead of taking 3 minutes to get to the point like Tool it starts off right away with a blast of good riffs which lead to an awesome very catchy chorus. Rather then telling you track by track what is good and what great,(like many of the other reviews) i think you can only be the judge of what tracks are best on this cd. Everybody has a different opinion on what they like so, i'll just say i liked everything on this cd from beginning to end. One more thing, if your wondering whats next dont be, because you wont be disappointed. Chevelle's next album,(this type of thinking could do us in)is coming and the first single,(vitamin R)is killer, their best work yet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good band/could be the start of something great.
This album will most likely appeal to teenage boys, rather than seasoned "rockers" in their twenties or thirties. Chevelle is a good band, don't get me wrong, and this album is a clear improvement on their first; but each and every song is highly derivative of the band Tool, particularly their album "Undertow". It seems as if these three brothers spent many an hour banging out the major guitar and drum riffs from the aforementioned album. The lead singer even goes so far as to replicate Maynard James Keenan's vocal phrasing. Also, like "Undertow", this album samples an echoing coffin being pried open: is this paying homage or ripping off? There is also a noticeable lack of emotion throughout most of the album. I would suggest purchasing Tool and A Perfect Circle albums before this one. Yet, this is definately a step up from repetitiously boring bands like Nickelback.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most awesome and uplifting cd .
Talk about a blessing. This has got to be the best cd I have listened to in a long time. It always gives me a blessing and encourages my soul everytime I listen to it. Wonderful, Merciful Saviour and Press On are my favorites but the whole cd is great. I can't say enough good things about Selah. God has truly used them to bless me in my life this year. The first time I heard Wonderful Merciful Saviour was the day my husband was admitted to the hospital and they thought he might have cancer. God used that song to let me know he was there no matter circumstances were happening in our life.

5-0 out of 5 stars You only need to hear one song, one time.....
You only need to hear the title song, "Press On," and you will buy the CD. You only need to play it through one time to feel the power of God in their music. You will play it the second time to worship God. God is working through Selah and touching lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, soul-felt music
I bought this CD a week ago and haven't stopped listening to it every chance I get. It moves me to feel God's presence in my life and "press on" through hard times. My favorites are Press On and Wonderful, Merciful Saviour; they both build from slow and quiet to a joyful, strong ending. The soulful numbers are great too. Nicol has such a range of expression.

The only songs I'm not wild about on the CD are Were You There (the lead singer of this song is someone who isn't a regular part of Selah) and Yezu... (the foreign one). I don't have anything against foreign lyrics, but the overall sound of this song doesn't appeal to me.

Music like this is such a gift. I encourage people to listen to it. It just may touch them -- and you -- to deepen or begin a relationship with Christ. It sure did for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Harmonies to blow you away!
Every time any of the songs by "Selah" come on the radio, my family and I are blown away. They have harmonies that lift your soul and cleanse you from deep within. The group is truly inspirational!

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than Avergae
Their music is better than the average 'vanilla' Christian music one hears on conservative Christian radio and tv shows like the 700 Club, whose featured artists usually lean more toward the saccharine and the righteously overwrought. (In my humble opinion, a tiresome cliche for Gospel and Christian music). However, Selah's arrangements are pleasingly simple, straightforward, and heartfelt. Their phrasing of traditional arrangements (e.g., their arrangement of "How Great Thou Art"), is very good. Personally, I'd love to hear them take a few more chances/risks like, say, Bobby McFerrin does with his spiritual group Voicestra. However, their cover of Lennon/McCartney's "In My Life" almost nearly pushes the edges of the envelope but, I suppose, this argument is neither hither nor yon here....more like wishful thinking, as in wishing your car had more horsepower than it actually does but contented with the fact that it at least has more than the majority. What you have before you with Selah is an earnest group of singers proving that traditional Christian Music is, thankfully, expanding its all too predictable musical boundaries. I truly look forward to listening to them grow. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best Praise GOD
I have never been impressed with most Christian music. I saw the ads for this CD on TV and liked what i heard and ordered it. Well it is EXCELLENT.It is loaded with the best songs of worship by the best artists.I was so excited by this CD and listen to it all the time i decided to get some other popular collections. They pale in comparison to this one. I cannot recommend it enough and everyone in my office that does listen to it agrees it is excellent. I dare say the BEST of Christian Worship that is being offered today.
Get this CD you will not be disappointed and you will be in HIS presence with worship any time you want. GOD bless jb

It won't take you long after the opening strains of "Toby's back" from the opening track of Welcome To Diverse City to realize that yes indeed, Toby Mac is back with his second solo effort and follow-up to the superb Momentum. It's apparent from the beginning of this release that the studio wizard and third member of DC Talk is back in the house with another rich blend of rap, soul, pop, and techno. All the while, this DC Talk-er is laying down the gospel of one God, one love, and one people. Leading off with the smooth rap of "Hey Now," Toby Mac promises us to "set a new pace" because "it's been a long time comin' but I'm serving up the sequel."And serving up he does well with healthy portions of hard rock ("Slam"), funky soul with Bootsy Collins ("Welcome To Diverse City"), smooth pop ("Gone"), disco rock ("Getaway Car"), and biographical rap ("Gotta Go"). Building off his group and solo release experience (not to mention multiple production jobs for other artists), Toby Mac flows with a lyrical and stylistic consistency that holds together. Ultimately what he does so well is fly all the colors of the musical rainbow in one banner, seamlessly weaving different styles into one unmistakable flag. It's a mark all his own and worthy of merit in the Christian music world and beyond. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute CD of Classic Kids Songs
This is a great collection of songs for toddlers and my son enjoys most of the songs on the CD. The only downside of the CD is that after a while it can become a little boring to him and me compared to his other CDs like the Wiggles. But if you are looking for some classics mixed in with some christian favorites for a cheap price then this is a perfect cd to add to your collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars very nice
It is cute, up beat and Faith, (my daughter), really likes this CD. It is also very easy for me to listen to. My only thought is that it would be nice to be just a little bit more varied in the beats or the tone or instruments or something, from one song to the next. My daughter always enjoys when I put this on for her...but after a while she is a bit disinterested and has me switch to another CD.

All in all I think it is a good CD to own and I enjoy the Christian quality.

2-0 out of 5 stars Be warned...
While I thought most of the songs were cute, I would have appreciated a warning that this is CHRISTIAN baby songs. There are a couple of songs that are clearly religious... and I was uncomfortable with my child listening to this CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for the toddlers, at a fantastic price
THis CD is very fun and bouncy.
My kids, especially the older ones, also love to sing and play to the SCRIPTURE ROCK and Worship Rock series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD for preschoolers!
I pop this CD into the player we have in our kitchen often, to give him something to listen to while painting or while I'm doing other things. The songs are fun, the kids who sing them aren't annoying, and there is just the right mix of traditional favorites combined with Christian songs for little ones. I highly recommend it! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good worship compilation!
REVISED review as of 05/03/2004...

This compilation, full of heart-warming praise and worship, deserves a higher rating than initially given especially after listening and enjoying both CDs during my quiet time. While playing in the background, it help set the mood in refocusing my thoughts as I went over CLASS 201 notes.

We are so undeserving of His love, yet He is so giving and forgiving.

I now listen to it over and over again.

To my surprise during yesterday's service in the Overdrive venue @ Saddleback, they played my favorites and I knew all the lyrics thx to this compilation which unknowingly prepared me. 8-)

Great compilation for your audio library!

5-0 out of 5 stars Despite No New Thrills, Gospel Box Set Appeals To Fans
"Peace in the Valley: The Complete Gospel Recordings" is the latest offering from the revolutionary Elvis producers Ernst Jorgensen and Roger Semon. This 3-CD box set differs from many other recent Elvis releases spearheaded by Jorgensen and Semon for one reason: it features all previously released material.

The kicker? Even the most avid Elvis CD collectors don't seem to mind.

This immaculate, comprehensive set needs no previously unreleased tracks to entice Elvis CD junkies like me. Likewise, the listener needs not be an Elvis Presley fan - or even a fan of traditional gospel music - to enjoy this collection.

The music, digitally remastered from the original master tapes to produce the cleanest, crispest sound to date, captures Elvis at his emotional and spiritual best. This set proves that gospel provided an anchor for Elvis's musical repertoire from day one, right up to the end. The consistency in vocal conviction from the "Million Dollar Quartet" sessions (recorded by a young Elvis on the brink of superstardom) to the live version of "How Great Thou Art" (recorded at one of Elvis's final concert performances) is both startling and revealing. It is indeed difficult to listen to these tracks and not feel swept away by the utterly convincing candor that carries Elvis's voice through every note.

From the tender, humble testimony of "Known Only To Him" to the gritty, almost fierce testimonial of "I, John," Elvis manages to bridge a decade in his career with equally moving performances. Such consistency is rare, but given Elvis's unmatched vocal talent, this should come as little surprise.

Listen to relax, listen to energize, listen to sing along. Despite the historial and musical significance of these recordings, which is indeed difficult to underestimate (for without gospel, Elvis-brand rock may not have existed) - their universal appeal is easy to explain: it is simply wonderful music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitive gospel set from Elvis worth singing about
Finally, the folks at BMG produced an Elvis reissue worth celebrating! PEACE IN THE VALLEY is, without a doubt, the best collection of Elvis Presley's gospel recordings.

If you think Elvis' favourite kind of music was either rock or country, you'd be wrong. Gospel was Elvis' first musical love, as revealed in the two-part TV documentary, HE TOUCHED ME: THE GOSPEL MUSIC OF ELVIS PRESLEY. PEACE IN THE VALLEY includes all the songs from his three gospel albums (HIS HAND IN MINE, HOW GREAT THOU ART, and HE TOUCHED ME), the PEACE IN THE VALLEY EP, and gospel highlights from the '74 Memphis concert, TV specials and movies thrown in for good measure. It also includes some informal recordings from the '56 Million Dollar Quartet sessions with Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash.

Elvis arranged many of these songs in the traditional way, but makes them lively by throwing a modern, rock-inflected beat to them. And the sound quality is much crisper and clearer than on the two-CD AMAZING GRACE collection released in '94. The liner notes in PEACE IN THE VALLEY's booklet are also well-written, and without the sloppy edits found in the AMAZING GRACE booklet (e.g. the HE TOUCHED ME album wasn't just nominated for a Grammy for Best Gospel Album in 1972, it actually WON -- hello!)

When the King of Rock 'n' Roll sings the praises of another King (i.e. Jesus), you know you're going to be moved and entertained, even if you're not religious. You don't have to be religious to appreciate the good music heard here. Kudos to BMG for a job well done!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is where Elvis shines
There should have been much, much more Gospel from Elvis. Maybe there would have been with better management. He should have sang "Why Me, Lord?" for 20 minutes instead of "Suspicious Minds". This is a beautiful collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars If it wasn't for gospel music, we wouldn't have the king!
This is, in my opinion, the most beautiful Elvis box set I have ever purchessed in my life. This three CD set features every single gospel recording Elvis ever made and in my opinion his 1960 album His Hand In Mine is the greatest ever. It will bring you to tears when you hear him sing Known Only To Him, He Knows Just What I Need and I Believe In The Man In The Sky. Elvis sounded so good singing these songs and for some reason Crying In The Chappel didn't show up on the album. However it was released as a single in 1965 and it is truly one of the greatest. This is a great set for not only Elvis fans, but true gospel fans also. God bless BMG for this graet set.

5-0 out of 5 stars great music
