5-0 out of 5 stars Great night time music.
We had been given a Lullaby CD of music by a friend when our daughter was born, but it was terrible. The music was much too up tempo. I felt like it was winding up by daughter instead of settling her down. This CD on the other hand is perfect for bedtime. The music is soft and slow. Even I start to yawn when I it. True, there are only 11 tracks when 36 are listed, but aside from that the CD is worth the money. It goes with us everywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son has listened to this CD nightly for over 2 years!
This CD is part of his bedtime routine and he asks for his every night - "Turn moosic on, Mama." It is nice, soothing music that helps him nod off. We even take this CD on trips with us so he still has his same night-night music. ; )
We have a new baby now and I am ordering the same CD for her room! I highly recommend this CD for helping your child wind down for night time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Oops my mistake...
I had first thought that this CD only gives 11 songs but it is 36, but it's a disappoinment they way that they do it but combining like 3 songs into 5 minutes. My advice: save your money and purchase something that gives you the whole deal!

1-0 out of 5 stars Total let-down
The CD claims to give you 36 songs, when in actuality it only gives you 11 and doesn't even play the ones it suppose to! Even the songs that Amazon has for samples aren't the right ones. Maybe the other reviewers got the right CDs and I'm the only one with a defective one, but I'm highly upset!

5-0 out of 5 stars All babies should have one
Quiet, soothing, instrumental renditions of all the songs this Grandma used to sing to her own children when settling them down for the night. I'm buying it in quantity for all the grandbabies. In this fast and noisy world, this CD is a welcome respite. : ) ... Read more

I recieved this as a baby gift and was amazed on how it really helped my son sleep and stop crying. As a first time mom it even helped me fall asleep at the same time. It is a wonderful gift idea.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly smothing for everyone
Since I received volume 1 and 2 Stops Crying Cd as a gift I can't believe that our life isn't the same anymore. My kids are so use to sleeping with the Cd on everynight that it has become a routine for our family to play it while we asleep the smothing sound of heart beat thumping with the mixture of the lullabies is a marvelous therapy music to sleep with. We recommend it to everyone that has kids and want a fantastic night of sleep. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Countdown Kids butcher childrens' songs
This CD set contains many of the song titles you'll recall from childhood. The problem is, the song lyrics are inexplicably altered. For example, "Twinkle twinkle little bat, how I wonder where you're at. Like a tea tray in the sky..." I've never seen a bat twinkle, but then I've not seen many bats. My husband and I hate this CD set. But, it does quiet down our 18 month old daughter, perhaps because the music is sung by children. ... Read more

Album Description

Hypnotic, caressing, soothing...these songs speak to the listener in the universal language of lullabies. The harmonies are gorgeous; the voices are tender; the instruments are haunting. The double-cased packaging with its Kente cloth design, embroidered African animals, and die-cut scalloped edges is as handsome as the music. An accompanying booklet contains notes about the performers, the languages and the origins of the songs as well as lyrics and translations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Listening for all Ages
I stumbled upon this CD because I love broadway music. Mimi Bessette's voice is beautiful and does justice to these classic songs. I give this CD to everyone I know who is having a new baby - it's perfect for the whole family to listen to at anytime. Buy it for yourself and buy it for a friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm a musical theater/ singing mom ...
and as such am constantly singing songs to my newborn son. When I saw this CD, I thought, why not?

I find Mimi Bessette's voice to be eminently listenable without being saccharine or cloying and I am very fussy about the singers to whom I choose to listen. She has a simple style of delivery and the arrangements are likewise simple and not overproduced.

The choice of songs is great. Aside from well-known tunes like "Castle on a Cloud" from Les Miserables and Edelweiss from The Sound of Music, there is a charming lesser-known tune entitled "New Words" that both my son and I adore. I am also partial to Irving Berlin's "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep" and was happy to find a rendition of it included on this CD.

My only complaint (and it is a minor one) is that the CD is too short. The running time is under 60 minutes and I would have like to have had more songs included.

After purchasing it for my son, I bought it for two other "theater friends" who were having babies and they love it too.

5-0 out of 5 stars If I could give it ten stars, I would have done so.
I like this Cd because it's cool to listen to before you go to bed, or when you just want to relax after a hard days work. I like all the tracks such as Not While I'm Around, Castle On A Cloud, New Words, and Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheap. When I listen to Mimi Bessette's voice, she sings like an angel. I highly recommend this Cd to future fans of musicals, and music fans in general.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for babies
I first heard this recording at a pre-school that I worked at. One of the teacher's used it at nap time for her class. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it and had to get it. I actually listened to it myself at bedtime. When I was assigned to a 4 year old class when their aide was out sick for a week, I took the CD with me and used it for their nap time. The teacher commented on how lovely it was. I left it in her class and forgot to take it when I left the school and moved away. I have wanted to order another copy ever since....and I just did! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely, lovely, lovely
My little girl falls asleep to this CD every night. The songs and the voice are just so calming and sweet, I sometimes turn it up enough so that I can hear it as I go to bed, too. I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone, but especially those who love Broadway music and want to introduce their kids to musical theater in a gentle way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sleeping Baby
Monica Hatch's Til Morning's Light is a beautiful compilation of lullaby favorites and popular music. My children cannot fall asleep without the melodious tunes to lull them to never never land. This is my favorite gift to all new parents! You will love it. Thank you Monica for sharing your beautiful voice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting
This enchanting album features the ethereal voice of jazz singer Monica Hatch, backed by harp, guitar and piano. Among the 21 songs are the exquisite "Flow Gently, Sweet Afton", Gregorian chants, and gentle ballads. A pleasing soundtrack for downtime

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for children
Monica Hatch's compellingly beautiful lullaby CD soothes the spirit of my clients, transporting their stress and worries in the wings of her enchanting voice. Everyone who has heard the CD wants to know how they can get a copy. A wonderful gift for babies and beyond."

5-0 out of 5 stars By Dave Nathan
For her third album, vocalist Monica Hatch has put together a play list of 21 songs designed to attract the ears of children. But they are not limited to traditional children's songs. Instead, Hatch draws upon pop and jazz classics, Gregorian chants, classical, and traditional music to make this a unique "children's" album, to say the least. The result is a soothing, quiet, more-than-one-hour session that will be attractive not only to a child's ears, but to adults as well. In addition to having two jazz-oriented albums on the market, Hatch also doubles as a choir member and soloist at St. John's church in Worcester, MA. It's this background and experience that makes her so eminently suitable to sing the kinds of gentle tunes represented on this album. With the quiet guitar of Peter Clemente and heavenly harp of Judy Saiki providing most of the background music, the soothing voice of Hatch creates a sense of peace and tranquility that will fit the bill for lulling babies and young children off to Nod land and may well help adults to shuck off the cares and worries of the day. Original compositions and adaptations of traditional material by Dwight Mikkelsen also are critical to the album's attractiveness. Not only does Hatch put the right emphasis on the lyrics, but her wordless vocalizing, humming if you will, on such cuts as Wayne Shorter's "Infant Eyes" transforms this jazz tune into a calm, comforting melody suitable for young children. What a nice way to introduce them to jazz at an early age.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you for your beautiful music
I just want to thank you very much for your WONDERFUL lullaby CD "Till Morning's Light: Lullabies and other quiet songs". It truly is heavenly. It's so calming and soothing to listen to. Working in such a stressful work environment I love to listen to it to allow all the stress and tension to just melt away.

I also wanted to give you the wonderful feedback from my daughter who used to have nightmares. I put on the tape for her every night now after she told me she never has anymore nightmares since she's been listening to the "angel music". So from myself and my 6-year-old daughter, thank you, thank you, Monica. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the amazing and sublime Vera Ward Hall
this is probably the finest in the Deep River of Song series because it features so much of Vera Hall's singing. she is a truly wondeful, amazing, sublimely talented singer. as beloved as she is she herself has not had a cd released in her name, this cd being the easiest way to get a large amount of her songs. many of these songs are lullabies and secular songs.
another reviewer mentioned the Smithsonian Folkways cd Negro Folk Music Of Alabama - volume 5 - spirituals. which is 16 songs by Dock Reed [Vera's cousin] + Vera Ward Hall. the songs are all religious in nature and might be more aptly described as Dock Reed songs with 2nd vocals by Vera Hall. her singing is not exactly in the forefront of tehse recordings except on the few songs she sings solo. this cd is not in commercial release so to get it you must go to the Smithsonian Folkways website, click on the "a world of sound" catalogue, then enter Vera Ward Hall in the 'artists search' box. the Smithsonian has a library of some 3,000 recordings [the 'world of sound'] and will burn you a custom cd or cassette of anything in this vast catalogue.
there are also other Vera hall songs scattered among Rounder's cds-
-Afro-American Spirituals, Work Songs + Ballads
contains 3 songs of hers, 1 trouble so hard 2 choose your
seat and set down 3 handwriting on the wall. 'trouble so
hard' is the song Moby sampled on his song 'natural blues'
on his album 'play', if you've only heard the short sample
in that song you'll be amazed by the full song
-Alan Lomax's Southern Journey volume1. contains 1 song by
her "mama's gonna buy"
-various artists 'Every Tone A Testimony' features Vera +
Dock Reed's 'free at last'. this is an album of singers,
poets, and political figures that focuses on the African
American experience, specifically the struggle for equality
i'm sure ther are a few others that i'm forgetting about. until somone puts out a truly comprehensive cd of Vera's work this will have to suffice. the main problem is that Folkways has half of her recordings and Roundr the other half. hopefully someday they'll cooperate/collaborate and put something like that out.

4-0 out of 5 stars there are more recordings of Vera Hall Ward
Yes, Vera Hall Ward is a great singer, but these recordings made by John & Ruby Lomax 1937-1940, should have been cleaned-up more (pops were eliminated but not crackle & other constant backgroung noise). There are much cleaner recordings of her (perhaps in a later decade) on:

> "Treasury of Library of Congress Field Recordings" and
> "Negro Religious Songs and Services".

> Smithsonian has re-released duets with her cousin, Dock Reed that was recorded by Harold Courlander on a 1950 fieldtrip:

[URL]
- Negro Folk Music of Alabama, Vol. 5: Spirituals (1950) Includes all of F-2038 plus additional music. [prices]

> There are more duets available from:
[URL]

> You can download recordings from the Lomax 1939 fieldtrip at:
[URL]

It is interesting to hear Vera Hall Ward sing secular songs, - inspite of her strongly religious background. I also like the music of the Georgia Sea Islands, St. John's Island, prison worksongs, and the Bahamas (Real Bahamas, Vol. 1-2), which indicate how powerful the older music was.

5-0 out of 5 stars BELIEVE IT OR NOT!
Wait a second--Vera Hall sounds good even without a background synthesizer played by Moby. BELIEVE IT OR NOT! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
This is a wonderful collection of songs. I would buy this for any family with babies and young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars very soothing
the best way to really describe this CD is to use words like "environmental" and "new-age".

it contains songs that are very soft, very quiet, and very soothing. many are just acapella -- whicn is what lullabies were meant to be, really. think about it! when trying to put babies to sleep, do mothers (world over) sing with piano or orchestra in the background? no, they just sing!

i bought this CD for my baby, but i find myself putting it on repeat and listening to it all day long. i highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars When does the next one come out?
I have both Jazz-a-Bye Lullabye Classics and Jazz-a-Bye Christmas. I love them, my god son loves them and my nephews love them! I heard rumor that they were releasing another CD in mid Jan. 2002. I can't wait!

5-0 out of 5 stars This one is really for the parents!
We have slipped this CD in during parties and other gatherings and it is fun to see peoples faces suddenly change when they realize the song they are hearing is "Hush Little Baby" instead of some smooth jazz tune. Don't get me wrong, our daughter loves it too, but when you are tired of sweet lullabies, this one is a MUST!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lullaby Classics with Intelligence.....Finally !! GENIUS!!!
This CD is sure to become a classic. I can't believe how wonderful these childrens tunes sound with the new jazz twist. Great for the whole family, not just the little ones. Also a great gift for new parents. Thumbs up to the creators of Jazz-A-Bye. A++ . Keep the music coming!

5-0 out of 5 stars As relaxing for adults as it is for little ones
I purchased the Jazz-a-Bye cassette tape just before the birth of my second child. I thought it would be soothing music for the new baby, as well as my 2 year old. Well, not only is this music relaxing for my children, my husband and I enjoy it! Some music that is designed for young listeners can drive adults crazy. Jazz-a-Byes is a sophisticated blend of lullaby classics set to Jazz. It is as pleasurable for grownups as it is for children. I give Jazz-a-Byes as a gift at baby showers, but you don't need to have children to enjoy it. ... Read more
