5-0 out of 5 stars What a production!
At first I thought it was unusual for men to be singing lullabys. However, like all of the Ellipsis Arts Lullaby CD's this one is outstanding!! The tracks are from all over the world, including Italy, Denmark, Greece, Sicily and Argentina. What a production!!

5-0 out of 5 stars So beautiful
This CD was a shower gift and it is so special to us. I play it for our son every time he goes down to sleep. The insert contains the lyrics in both the native languages and English. I can't get through reading the words to the opening track, Piccolo Girasol, without losing it. It makes you really understand how universal a father's love is for his children. I can't wait to hear Mama's Lullaby. I'm sure it's as touching as this sweet CD. It's also nice to know that your children are listening to sounds in other languages, which can only help their language development.

5-0 out of 5 stars the BEST fathers day present...sleep!
i have nearly all of the lullaby cd's from ellipsis arts and can't recommend them highly enough. however this was a special fathers day present from me to my son, and i (er...we!) love it! all the songs carry the weight of the love of a father like a wonderful down comforter ready to wrap your child up and send them confidently and peacefully to sleep. do i have a favorite...yes, every track! the whole cd is truly an excellent buy. ... Album Description

Award-winning CD of original lullabies, written and produced by songwriter-Dad, Lanny Sherwin, vocals by Melodie Crittenden. Voted "BEST TODDLER CD" by the Children's Music Web, winner of the Parent's Choice Award.

Often called a thinking parent's lullaby CD, "Dream With Me Tonight" is not as dry as Mozart, not as goofy as certain purple dinosaurs. The CD has real songs that captures the interest of children while, at the same time, appealing to parents through those very necessary repetitive plays required by the growing child. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Ever
Bought this for my grandson and ended up getting one for me I like it so much. It is a truly wonderful cd with great original songs - Too Many Animals in my Bed is my favorite without a doubt!

5-0 out of 5 stars Grandparent's Choice Award!
I bought this CD for my 2 grandsons, ages 2 and 5. They enjoyed it so much that I immediately contacted all my friends, suggesting they purchase copies for THEIR children or grandchildren. "Dream With Me Tonight" is unlike any lullaby recording I have ever heard. The vocals are beautiful and the songs are delightful, not only for children, but for their parents and grandparents as well. Because the songs on this CD are not your "typical" lullybye or children's music, we never tire of hearing them.

I recently learned that this CD has won "Best Toddler CD" from the Children's Music Web and a Parent's Choice Award, and it's no wonder! It is very deserving of the many accoulades it's receiving.

I have but one more important recomendation to make. Buy this CD! You'll be glad you did!

5-0 out of 5 stars Setting a New Musical Standard
I absolutely love the combination of beautiful melodies and intelligent lyrics on the Dream With Me Tonight cd. It's about time someone created music that parents can enjoy too! (Not to mention how much my son loves the songs, but I will! - He asks for it every night!)

2-0 out of 5 stars Yet Another Lullaby CD
Yes, kids need to go to sleep...and when all the songs start to sound the same, they can't help but fall asleep, especially when the last 5 (of 15) tracks are a repeat of 5 of the first 6 tracks sans lyrics. While these songs are "nice," there is nothing really unique about this collection. It's the same "sweet, cotton-candy cloud" vibe that has already been done (and overdone) on other "lullaby" collections. Nothing really quirky or oustandingly original.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
My 4 and 2 yr old sons are mesmerized by this entire CD. We listen to it every morning on the drive into daycare and every afternoon on the way home. It also keeps them in bed at night listening to Melanie's soft and sweet voice. I had the opportunity to meet her and she is as sweet as her voice. I recommend this to everyone with a small child. This CD is truly awesome! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Judy's first two
It is a pleasure to listen to this album once again and to realize that Judy Collins' musical success has been based all along on her solid musical roots and training.

The songs on this CD, which remasters and transfers her first two albums (with a short bonus song, recorded later), are, with one or two exceptions, traditional folk material, sung in a strong, occasionally chesty alto voice that might surprise listeners used to the higher, lighter soprano heard on her later, folk-rock and pop albums. From the beginning, though, Collins had an ear for quality material--these folk songs hold up well after four decades, and at least one of the composed numbers, Ewan McColl's bitter anti-death penalty ballad "Tim Evans," has lost none of its bite or relevance, especially here in Texas.

Other highlights for me include rousing versions of venerable tunes such as "Fannerio" and the gospel-tinged "Twelve Gates to the City." The guitar playing throughout is superb, both from Collins herself and the (unfortunately unidentified) collaborating musicians. As the notes to the album itself concede, the remastering of the analog original reveals some deficiencies in the original recording--also, the increased clarity exposes some sloppy tuning that was not so apparent on LP. Still, this is a CD that will provide much pleasure to those who remember Judy Collins' beginnings with fondness. Now, will someone re-release her "#3" album, please?

4-0 out of 5 stars Reissuing the first two Judy Collins albums on one CD
This import CD reissues the first two Judy Collins albums from the early 1960s when she was singing traditional folk material with her crystal pure soprano voice accompanied by acoustic guitar. Collins had been trained as a classical pianist and when she turned to folk music she brought along the sensibilities of a classicist as she became one of the main interpreters of folk songs in the Sixties (choosing between Collins and Joan Baez as your personal favorite was the question of the day, not that you could go wrong with either selection).

"A Maid of Constant Sorrow" was released in 1961 and listening to it will surprise her fans because this is not the Judy Collins they are used to hearing. In retrospect it is clear that Collins is still learning how to use her voice to her advantage; she tends to stay more in her lower register at this point and the glorious high notes we associate with her singing is seen only in spots (e.g., "Wild Mountain Thyme"). But even in these early days there are some nice little gems, such as "The Pickilie Bush," "Tim Evans," and especially "John Riley." I especially liked her sea shanty "Sailor's Life," where her youthful enthusiasm helps carry the song along.

Her 1962 release "Golden Apples of the Sun" shows significantly more confidence as a singer. What is interesting to me is the obscurity of these traditional folk songs, although she does branch out into some other genres, such as gospel with "Twelve Gates to the City." The best tracks on this second album would be the title song, the ballad "Fannerio," and "Crow on the Cradle." Note: Spike Lee's father, Bill Lee, plays bass on this album.

These two albums are more of historical interest at this point, because you are not going to find them to be quintessential Judy Collins. However, if you remember the times you can appreciate that this was a period when folk music did not mean commercially viable songs but more "authentic" music. The bottom line is that fans of that voice are going to appreciate hearing it at the beginning of one of the celebrate careers in folk music.

3-0 out of 5 stars Traditional folk songs
People who think of "Both Sides Now" when they hear the name of Judy Collins will be disappointed by this CD. It contains only traditional folk music that is by nature very simple and primitive (in the non-judgmental meaning of the word.) Fans of traditional folk music will enjoy these recordings. Others will prefer the "Very Best of Judy Collins" CD which was released at the same time as this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maids and Golden Apples
Thanks to Judy Collins and Wildflower Records for liberating these wonderful recordings. While I have loved many of her later efforts (and disliked a few others), Ms. Collins' early albums have always remained among my very favorites. I had become concerned that they would never be released as CDs and have been obsessively guarding my vinyl copies.

While Judy never had the purest folk voice or most authentic provenance for her songs, she was still the most compelling folk singer of the sixties. In listening to these wonderful songs again, I was reminded that her ability to project emotion through a recording was just magnificent.

For Judy Collins fans, these are a great chance to hear her fresh and direct. For folk revival fans, they are absolute treasures.

So let's have the other two lost abums!

5-0 out of 5 stars Glorious music, great singer
Long careers, even those of the great and most gifted, have a habit of gradually slipping into mediocrity. Perhaps that's been true of Judy Collins. But the work by which history should judge her is here, in her first two albums.

Maybe Elektra is finally beginning to look at the wealth of truly remarkable (not to say historically significant) material in its back catalogue. These reissues from Europe, which combine seminal albums by Judy, Tom Rush, Fred Neil, Tim Buckley and others, are long overdue.

The two Judy Collins albums here are among the most powerful and moving in the American folk canon. She was always a far stronger and more important presence than Joan Baez, yet somehow never received the acclaim that Baez did. Buy this CD and make up your own mind. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great recording by a very cute little Shirley
This is a collection of most of Shirley's songs from the first half of her career... and it goes beyond the Good Ship Lollipop. The recording is old, which you can tell from the sound - there is very light static, but the music is still clear and much better than I was expecting. It includes songs from Curly Top, Captain January, and the two Old South movies which are not the ones she is remembered for - but they are among my favourites personally. I love "Love's Young Dream" and "Believe Me"... It also has her three performances with Jack Haley and Alice Faye from "Poor Little Rich Girl", which are other favourites of mine...

If you like Shirley and want some of her music, this is a great CD to start with. I recommend it highly.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Shirley Temple CDs
"America's Sweetheart" has a total of 51 songs on only two CDs! 19 of which are NOT contained in the 3 CD box set, "Stand Up and Cheer" (which has 60 songs)...

Since no other Shirley Temple CD has as many different songs as these two sets, either "America's Sweetheart" or "Stand Up and Cheer" would be a great place to start...

Tracks on "America's Sweetheart" that are NOT on "Stand Up and Cheer"

Album Description

When you play Lovely Baby CDs for your baby, you’ll be amazed with the results. For the first three months you will see a special glow in their eyes. From 3 months and on, they start moving, mumbling and responding in several ways.In Europe and Asia, this music has already proven to be a revolution in baby-edutainment.

Created by award-winning Dutch composer, Raimond Lap, the series is targeted to the -3-24+ month old market.Unlike any other, these original recordings feature arrangements that are perfectly suited for babies' sensitive ears, while the compositions stress melody, harmony and rhythm.Lovely Baby CDs contain no vocals other than baby sounds, as lyrics at such an early age, according to Mr. Lap, don’t add to the educational value of the music. Raimond uses what he calls "super-stereo" sound as a tool to develop movement and physical response.Additionally, he has integrated an assortment of styles and musical elements into his music that stimulate babies’ brains.

Lovely Baby CDs help create a peaceful home environment, which is an integral part of the learning experience.Mr. Lap has spent years refining his baby music. One major reason for the success this series has earned throughout Europe and Asia, where millions of babies are enjoying his music, are the productions themselves. Not only are they pleasant to babies' ears, parents find them appealing as well. With music so parent-friendly, moms and dads are exposing their babies to Lovely Baby CDs more often and for longer periods of time, making for a truly family-oriented experience.Parental participation carries so much weight during this formative time in a baby's young life. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Lullaby CD!
All my kids have listened to this CD before bed each night. It's one of the few lalluby CD's which actually calms them to sleep.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for bedtime
I love this CD and have ordered several copies over the yearsto give to prospective parents. As a professional singer/musician, I appreciate the high quality of this music. The songs are lovely and do not get old after listening to it several times.(Which is what many new parents do when trying to put a baby to sleep!)Also, a book is available with the texts for those of you who want to sing along.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby's Bedtime
My son insisted upon hearing this particular collection of lullabies every night for years (literally).Judy Collins sings the selections so well that my husband and I were able to listen to it for years without losing our minds. We liked it so much that even after hearing it at least 1000 times (really!),I am now buying a copy for my grandson.

5-0 out of 5 stars UTTERLY CHARMING
LOVELY MELODIES! PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS WILL NOT TIRE OF HEARING THIS PLAYED 100'S OF TIMES. DANCE LITTLE BABY, AND BOYS AND GIRLS COME OUT TO PLAY ARE MY FAVORITES. [AND] I AM 56 YEARS OLD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, memorable album for the whole family
My mother gave us this tape and we have played it nonstop - the songs are haunting, set to melodious music often in minor keys which contributes to the dreaminess (and repeated listenability) of this album. Judy Collins'voice sounds beautiful. My 2-year-old boy loves this recording too, andeven my 4-month-old seems to "settle down" when hearing it. Infact we bought the corresponding video to see what it "lookedlike" visually. The tape is a must-have, the video very well-done too. ... Read more

Here's an album that will produce Zzzs over fidgety, fretful little foreheads faster than you can piece together the second verse of "Hush Little Baby," and it will satisfy grownups in search of meditation music that's not too drippy. Close your eyes for Cesar Berlanga's peaceful, reassuring "Todo Ya Esta en Calma" (from Spain) or Steve Gorn's instrumental "Saraswati's Dream" (India), with its whispery bamboo flute and Dobros, and it's déjà vu, not just tranquility, that washes over you. Isn't this the same gorgeous stuff that transported you far from your troubles last time you indulged in aromatherapy? As with other titles in the series, a booklet complete with lyric translations, thoughtful commentary on each track, and the artist's e-mail address slips into its own attractively designed cardboard sleeve. The record's intended bragging point, of course, is its reach. A dozen or so languages deliver a single message--that music has the power to put us in touch with our nurturing sides. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This CD is astoundingly Beautiful
What a jewel in the crown of Children's music. You just have to hear the song "Dormi, Dormi" and you will be hooked. It is just exquisitely beautiful. I have several CDs in this series, but this one takes the prize. This one and Papa's Lullaby are my favorites. GET THEM!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for the little ones!
Although the word Lullaby might be connected with putting the young ones to bed, this collection of soothing bed-time music will appeal to all who desire a warm earthy soundscape to relex to. Hats off once again to Jeff & Russell Charno at Ellipsis Arts.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of the best albums of any kind.....
One of the best albums I have bought in many, many months. Saw it at ..., with several others in the series, and it spoke to me. The guy behind the counter played it for me and I had goosebumps from the first note. What a wonderful listening CD. I did not know it was a kids album until I got it home and read the back of the cover. Delicious, soft, world music. Your baby will be unable to resist the gentle whisper of these gorgeous melodies. As an adult, even more appreciative. Hats off to the company who put these out. How about an adult series??!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not the usual lullabies.
This is a wonderful lullaby collection that is also a change of pace. The songs are not the standards to which you probably know all the words...there are even a couple of beautiful foreign-language songs. The vocals are also different -- not the usual soprano, but a richer, lower tone. I often play this CD when rocking my baby to sleep and it's a nice change from my other favorite (Beautiful Dreamer by the Dreamsisters). ... Read more

A soothing collection of traditional and contemporary lullabies from luminaries such as Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Lena Horn, A Child's Celebration of Lullaby is a sweet treat for both parent and child. Standouts include "Light Up the World" by Joanne Shenandoah and "Lullaby," gloriously performed by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks. The key word here is gentle--all the songs bleed one into the other in similar quietude and drifting lilt (which for sleepytime is a positive thing). Not as stimulating or culturally diverse as other collections, Lullaby is nonetheless a stalwart naptime companion and a blessing for cranky parents. --Paige La Grone ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars soothing
a great compilation, my daughter loves it and falls asleep listening everynight, she is thirty five months old. Her most favourite is little brown dog.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Child's Celebration Of Lullaby
Although over the past year I have collected several Lullaby theme CD's, If I was to purchase only one CD, this would be my pick!

What a great CD! As a new parent, I have spent many a hour rocking to this eclectic CD and I have not yet grown tired of the selections. "A Child's Celebration Of Lullaby" introduced me to several fun songs, new to me such as "Morningtown Ride - Raffi", Little Brown Dog - Taj Mahal, Blanket For A Sail - Harry Nilssen, and Be Still My Child - Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Meaning and inspiration come through in "Light Up The World" - Joanne Shenandoah, and I felt special connection with "Singin' In My Heart" - Eric Bibb/Linda Tillery. One of the most soothing and beautiful tracks I believe is "Lullaby" - Van Dyke Parks/Brian Wilson.

Although I was previously familiar with Melancholy Baby, Summertime, Shenandoah Lullaby, Brahms' Lullaby, and Cody's Song, this CD has introduced new sounds to these popular songs.

I would give this one Six Stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mellowby
When I first heard this CD, I immediately loved it. The vocal artists and the musical selections are wonderful. I especially enjoy Taj Mahal's rendition of "The Little Brown Dog" and Lena Horne singing "Summertime". My four year old daughter loves the song entitled "Good Night" by The Roches. It is a delightful story about a young girl captured by an invisible monster. My 2 year old enjoys listening to Raffi's "Morningtown Ride" in the morning while we eat breakfast. This CD is not only for bedtime. Play it when you want to feel mellow. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm!
Someone gave me this cassette. I didn't think this recording would work as well as it does....now I can't live without it. When my infant son is cranky or won't go down to sleep easily, I put on these lullabies and he smiles and calms down. He drifts off to sleep to this music very often. I am buying the CD for the car -- it's that good.

Take it from someone who has been in the child care field for almost 23 years. I have tried them all, and found that this CD, plus the regular Disney Lullaby Album, are THE BEST on the market today! I know for a fact that any tired baby or child will immediatly calm down and fall asleep when this album is played, much much faster than with any other music. I even find if the day is a little on the stress-filled side, putting this on while feeding or playing with them becomes a nice and smooth experience! Trust me on this one, Disney's Christmas Lullaby Album is well worth the cost; for the nice music, and the peace it instills in the children, and you! ... Read more

Tap your feet and sing along with Linda Arnold on Favorites in the Key of Fun. This album is a compilation from her six earlier albums that also includes five new songs. Arnold's voice is a clear, pure soprano and her gift for enchanting, original lyrics and melodies is evident throughout. A true master of genres, she wows us with a mix of styles ranging from ballads and waltzes to rock and jazz songs to boogie, Broadway show tunes, and cowboy ditties. Children will delight in encountering their favorite animals in songs like "At the Dinosaur Baseball Game" and parents will applaud Arnold's messages: imagination and dreams, she demonstrates, are valuable ("Make Believe"), eating your vegetables is important ("Vegetable Lament"), and, above all, children need love ("Quite a Combination"). Excellent child soloists are featured on several songs and differing combinations of guitars, woodwinds, keyboards, brass, and strings appear throughout. This is a wonderful selection of songs by a truly gifted artist. --Tami Horiuchi ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mama in the key of fun
I love this CD! It's easy to understand, and Linda Arnold doesn't speed up too much for pre-schoolers. My son is not overly enthusiastic about music, though he will sing or clap along on occasion. This CD has had the most success of any CD's I've shared with him - he'll even sing the title verse of "There's a Dinosaur Knockin' On My Door." But most of all, I like it: the melodies are irresistable, the lyrics are easy, clearly pronounced, creative and fun. This is great children's music, and I like singing along with it, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Daughter's favorite
My daughter, who turned 2 today, loves Linda Arnold. In fact, "Listen to Arnold?" has become her most frequent request, replacing "Baby Beluga." She sings along with a number of the songs, but her favorite is "There's a Dinosaur Knocking at My Door." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BARNEY'S FAVORITE'S VOLUME 1
I LOVE BARNEY SO MUCH . I WATCH THE BARNEY & FRIENDS TV SHOW EVERDAY. I HAVE BARNEY'S FAVORITE'S VOLUME 1 ON CASSETTE TAPE
I LOVE IT SO MUCH

5-0 out of 5 stars Barney has changed my life deeply!
I am 33 and Barney changed my life at age 29. I used to be an arogant freak. But thanks to Barney I now share, care, and love. I love this album!

4-0 out of 5 stars A really good preschool kids' CD
I am a musician and find many of the typical kiddie CDs almost intolerable due to the lack of talent of the singers. This one is suprisingly good. The Barney actor and children from the cast sing the songs. The children are quite talented, making it easy for adults to listen to. Kids love the songs. It features a good assortment of familiar songs from the TV show and classic children's songs. My 2-year old loves it and requests this CD daily. I am able to stand listening to this CD over and over much easilly than his other favorites. The "clean-up" song is also usefull during clean-up time in our house.

5-0 out of 5 stars Barneyrific!
My four year old loves Barney. This is one of his favorites. We've been through several of the cassettes. They ware out very quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Barney is cool
This is the best barney cd ever I bought for my 21 year old son and he loved it. Thise is extremely cool. I loved it too. Barney Is the bomb. It beats N'Sync, Britney Spears, and Backstreet Boys. I love my Barney Doll also. I kiss it every hour. I kiss the cd every 10 seconds. I trashed GBA and my laptop for Barney.I kiss my barney underwear every minute. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pure Gold!
I can't stop playing it! Even after my children were lulled to sleep, I played it again and again. You are the new and improved Sara McLachlin combined with Linda Ronstadt. I want to buy a CD for everyone I know who is having a baby or has had one. I hope to hear another CD of Grown-up tunes soon.
Your voice is pure Gold! "Bravo"! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock-A-Bye Your Baby...
Too beautiful for words(but I'll give it my best shot), "Fairy Dreams - Magical Lullabies" is a soft, and soothing mix of traditonal folk lullabies, with a special added touch of warmth by Linda Ronstadt. It is music that will lull anybody into a beautiful state of relaxation, and would be a beautiful bonding experience for any parent and child. Just sit back in that rocker, hold your child in your lap and let this album work it's magical spell on you.

Opening with the instumental "Winter Light", Ronstadt's mesmerizing collaboration with esteemed composer Zbigniew Preisner("Three Colors Trilogy/The Decalogue"),you are already transfixed.New and wonderfullly sweet renditions of "Hush Little Baby","Moon and Me","All The World Is Sleeping","Dream a Beautiful Dream" and "Sleep Baby Sleep" are just a few of the songs that will stay with you for sometime afterwards.(See buying info for a complete list of songs, where you may also listen to some samples). You may even stay up and listen again long after the little ones are fast asleep.

This sweet collection of lullabies would be a welcome and unique gift for any new parents, children, or baby-sitting grandparents. One that will give hours of pleasure to all who listen to it.You may even fall in love with it even if there are no wee ones about.I did!

The CD(Big Blue Dog Records) is an excellent quality and delivers beautiful sound(and not a bad price either). There are 12 tracks in all ranging in time from 1:19 to 4:23, most being over 3 minutes.

"I Bid You Goodnight".....enjoy...Laurie ... Read more
