My whole life REAL music has been important beyond description and the intimacy, depth, spirituality, romance, tenderness and sweetness I look for in music this beautiful is all there in many colors. A musical gem
Tina Malia's CD, 'Shores of Avalon' has been in constant rotation on my stereo and in my car since I got it a few weeks ago. Every time I hear it, I discover something new to appreciate.
Malia's style is very particular to her--it truly can't be pigeonholed. But to come close to describing the Celtic/Indian/folksy sound would be to say she's something akin to Loreena McKennitt. The two women use wonderful, rich imagery that sounds like something Tennyson might have penned. Malia is also a little like Sarah McLachlan... both comparisons are not undeserved. We've got to get this little-known artist out there!
If you like 'Shores of Avalon', I HIGHLY reccommend investing in Loreena McKennitt's 'The Mask and Mirror' and 'The Book of Secrets'.

Absolutely one of the most beautiful voices of our time. Talent like Tina Malia's is a gift to all of us from the highest spiritual realm.

This magnificent music brings tears to my eyes. When I close my eyes during this music I literally see panoramic scenes of old Europe, mythological visions from ancient myths of Wales (Arthurian legends), and, during certain songs (Circle of Stones, Full Moonlight Dance), beautifully choreographed visions of dancers that seem to spring into my head from the music itself. Great CD!
My 3 year old and 8 month old love this CD! They listen to it to fall asleep for naps or for bedtime. We even played it in the middle of the night when our 8 month old used to wake up many times a night, and it helped a lot! We play it after our 3 year old has a nightmare and it helps calm her down and even fall back asleep quickly (and she doesn't have another nightmare after that for a while)! We love it! It's Christian, too, so that makes it even better!

Wonderful CD
I received the tape version of this CD when my son was born back in 1995. I played this for him every night and he slept peacefully. It calmed him and relaxed him. I went thru two tapes and now I am buying the CD. He is 9 years old now and he loves to fall asleep to this music. I would recommend this to anyone with children.

Parent in Washington who thinks its great
We got the earlier version of the CD when our 7 year old was a baby. When she was fussy this tape calmed her enough to get to sleep.

I am now buying the CD for her. She has worn out the tape and still likes to listen to it when she is trying to fall asleep and needs some calming.

I appreciated the fact that there is a Christian version, to not just calm, but to instill values.

This CD saved our sanity!

Latin Grammy Nominated CD!
Maria Del Rey received a nomination for a Latin Grammy for this work and it was well deserved. Even if you don't speak Spanish, this album relaxes your soul and lifts your spirit. A well-researched piece of work that brings together latin traditions from all across the world and presents them in a way both Latino and non-Latino listeners will appreciate. My daughter and I have found it very educational....a good addition to the many Spanish/educational tapes and videos on which Maria Del Rey has either performed or produced. We look forward to her next children's CD (we already have Universe of Song).

Wow what a voice!
I am a grandmother who has given Maria Del Rey CDs to everyone in my family and to friends who have young children. It a gift that I love to give. Maria has an amazing and tender voice. I can feel her heart in every note. She is rare gem to have that kind of talent and share it with our children.

Maria Del Rey's Lullabies are great for nap times
As an Educator and mother, I highly reccomend Lullabies of Latin America. In my family we have a long tradition of
handing down music, books and stories. Maria has totally captured the beauty and warmth that I remember my mother and my abuela singing to me as a child. These are the classics, these beautiful lullabies brought such tender emotion in me when
I first heard them. When I taught preschool for a few years
the children always loved Maria's voice. The whole atmosphere was so peaceful in class during our nap times. When you work in the trenches with children everyday you need materials that work and I trust Maria Del Rey's work, she is just wonderful.

Not many lullabyes in Spanish
As others have noted, this turns out to be only a handful of lullabyes in Spanish sung by Maria Del Rey, plus nursery rhymes spoken by children and men (not very good for putting a baby to sleep), plus the whole thing repeated in English. In addition, I had been looking for traditional Latin American pieces and apparently all of these are contemporary. Don't waste your money...I'm planning on giving my copy away if I can figure out someone I know who could actually use it.

Not as good as I had hoped
I had high hopes for this CD based on its rave reviews, but I was disappointed. Though the musicianship is excellent, a few of the songs are not lullabies, but rather are upbeat rythmic pieces that aren't helpful when we're trying to get our baby's eyelids to finally shut. Also, since the songs are repeated in English, you then get two doses of the same songs. This CD isn't bad, but for anyone looking for lullabies in Spanish, I'd recommend the "Latin Lullaby" CD. ... Disney's Princess Lullaby Album shines light on a key children's release from 2001: Jason Falkner's Bedtime with the Beatles collection. The arrangements here are dripping with keyboards and swathed in strings, but the simple formula--translating familiar melodies and mellowing the music to sweet, soporific levels--works well. And, to be fair, these aren't Beatles tunes. But the Disney songs are recognizable enough that the youngster in need of music as a sleep aid won't be, so to speak, in the dark. Even if films like Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and, to a greater extent, Mulan, aren't known quantities, Fred Mollin's orchestrations are soothing. My 4-year-old daughter LOVES this!
We've had this CD for nearly a year and my 4-year-old daughter has listened to it literally EVERY night. Purchased it for her during a time in which she was having trouble going to sleep each night and kept making excuses to come out of her room at bed-time. This CD was a dream come true. It has become a very important part of her bedtime routine. We put it on after we finish reading and are ready to leave her to sleep for the night. Sometimes we hear it playing softly during the night or early in the morning, as she will put it back on if she wakes up during the night. It really helps her to sleep! We always take it on vacation, and even had to go out searching for one during a beach vacation last summer as her baby brother got hold of it and scratched it. Thank goodness we were able to find another copy! My daughter's quote about this cd: "It makes me feel like I'm floating on a dream." Enough said! :o)

A great CD from a great shop.
i bought this CD as a gift for my friend. I just wanted to say sorry to her because I had made her angry but it seem very hard for me to say this. Just when I wander around Amazon.com and I found this CD. It looks so cute. I came up with an idea that to make this one as a gift for her. Wow, she really loves it. I love it also. All beautiful songs. I like Disney movies and soundtracks very much. Next time I'll buy a pack of Disney's Greatest Hits.

Slumberful!
I was given this cd as a gift for my newborn daughter and it is wonderful! I am buying it again because it is starting to skip I have played it so much. It doesn't get old and I even enjoy falling asleep to it while I am listening to the baby monitor.

I think we love it more than our daughter...
We received this as a gift right after our daughter was born. Our daughte is now 5 weeks old, and let's just say she has a hard time going to sleep sometimes. We now find ourselves listening to this CD several times a day, and although it doesn't help her go to sleep, we love it! We are big Disney fans, and find ourselves singing along to the songs when they are playing, even after singing to the song two times earlier in the day! ... Read more

A "Must Have" every night at our house
My son who is five and one of my daughter's who is almost four both listen to this CD every night. It is an integral part of our night-time routine. In fact, when we vacation, we even take a portable CD player with us, just so that they can hear their "Barney Sleepy-time" CD. The music is typically, sweet Barney-ish music and there is kind of a rhythm to the pace in that the beginning of the CD is a little peppier and the second half is definitely more mellow and sub-dued. I have tried to suggest to my five year old that maybe he would enjoy some other type of night-time CD---but no go--at least for now, this Barney CD with its sweet, peaceful tone is what he wants. Our two year old is ready for her big girl bed--so it's almost time to order her CD, too.

A perfect bedtime routine begins here...
My three children have been listening to Barney's Sleepytime songs for YEARS. It is now in the hands of our youngest child, who will be 2 this summer. It is the ONLY cassette she will listen to at bedtime, and it is our second (wore out the first copy)...we're now investing in the CD version! Side One is perfect to play while your child takes his/her bath, brushes teeth, etc. It is a little more "uptempo" than the second side of the tape (or second half of the CD, whatever the case may be). The second half is VERY soothing... sometimes WE fall asleep as we rock the baby and sing along to the "nighty-night" songs. I'd recommend this to ANYONE in need of a new routine at bedtime, for ages birth-5 years. :) ... Read more

Fine, but really check out Angels All Around
There's nothing really wrong with this disc but Genie Nilsson's Angels All Around is so much better in every respect except a couple of extra dollars that there's really no comparison.

lullaby cassette
My son is 21 months old and goes to sleep with this tape every night. I started listening to it while I was pregnant with him. I'm ordering my second copy now because the cassette is really worn out and warbley. He loves it.

Lullabies
I am purchasing the CD because I have had a tape for over four years now that has been played almost daily. I use it to rock my daughter to sleep. She calls it "The Lady."

She's really old enough to go to sleep on her own, but she enjoys me singing with the beautiful songs. The lyrics emphasize the love between a mother and child, are soothing, and are so peaceful. The time we spend rocking with these lullabies has become a special time of closeness.

In all of our Baby-Go-to-Sleep recordings, a real human heartbeat, recorded from the chest, is used as the rhythm (drums) for traditional lullabies and nursery songs. The heartbeat is intentionally the predominant sound and never stops between songs. The heart rate has been set at a constant tempo for each song and only changes tempo between songs. The tempos for each song range from 78 to 62 beats per minute; the tempos which approximate the resting adult heart rate.

The songs were selected because of their simple melodies. Most are infants' and children's favorites that have withstood the test of time. We incorporated the basic principles of relaxation into the arrangements, keeping each section and component of the songs simple, repetitive, and predictable. In order to express the emotions of compassion and tenderness in their singing, most of the studio singers held dolls or imagined singing to their own child at bedtime. The performers were also asked to sing the melodies without improvising, so parents and children could sing along. Various other recording, arranging, and performance techniques were used to maintain interest in a soothing way throughout the recording.

great but not the right words to the songs
We got this in a gift bag from the hospital and it works wonders, BUT becarefull it uses subliminal messages instead of the right words to the songs. I AM SERIOUS! It says stuff like "baby will sleep alnight sleep allnight " on the london bridge song, but other than that it's a god send!

Sanity in music
I bought tape #1 on a trip out of town. It helped my 11 mo. old daughter become comfortable in a strange place in a strange crib for 3 days. As soon as I can, We will be purchasing all 3 CDS...they are worth so much more that what is being asked for!!

How did we sleep before?
This cd is wonderful! Not only is our colicky 6-week-old sleeping better, my husband and I are, too! We leave it playing all night. This is a must-have for anyone with a new baby!!

This CD lulled each of my five babies to sleep every evening. It is not "kiddie classical" music, but gorgeous arrangements of some of the most soothing, beautiful music ever written.

The music transports you back to childhood...
I was impressed with the cover art, and excessive packaging, but when I heard the music, I would have been satisfied with a brown paper wrapper. This CD is for both children and adults, with high production quality and a variety of intricate arrangements. Anyone who appreciates beautiful music will enjoy this remarkable collection of folk, gospel, and old country music, which offers broad appeal with a consistent focus. I thought the vocals on Susie Tallman's "Hush Little Baby" were angelic, and that was my favorite track.

Beautiful music!
This is by far our favorite lullaby cd. The music is so beautifully soothing... some songs almost hauntingly beautiful. We listen to it with our 15 month old twin girls as part of their bedtime routine. I highly recommend it.

I love this CD. I had purchased Celtic Lullaby, produced by the same company. I love it and love the presentation. I was looking for just the right gift for friends who have kids. I chose this because the tracks are great for grown up's as well as baby. This is a great gift for anyone who's got kids. Good if you want to sing from the book but can't read music
I bought this solely because I have the book and wanted to sing the lullabies to my kids, but I can't read music. For this purpose it is fine. The songs are not in the same order as in the book but I can deal. As a stand-alone lullaby CD I wouldn't really recommend it--the songs are not sung in a soothing manner, there's lots of variety in tempo and volume, some are even sung up-beat. The voices are not pitched high enough for babies either. That being said, I am back on Amazon today to buy it for my sister who is due any day now with her 3rd kid--we both like to sing and have the book, and songs (in book or music form) are a great present that the baby won't grow out of for a long time, and helps you bond with your little one too.

Didn't like the voice.
I bought this cd to go with the book and it is very frustrating because the songs on this cd are not even in the same order as the book. The singing voice fluctuates too much, it will be really soft and then it gets really high pitch. And if you have the volume set at a lower level for some songs then you can't hear other songs. I think there are better cds to buy than this one.

Soothing Songs
This is a very soothing collection. Wonderful for the newborn months and long after--I use it now for the perfect backdrop for my toddler when we are getting ready for bed at night. A great gift for others too!

Best I've found, but...
I bought the book first, but I can't read music very well, so this CD really helped to bring it all together. My main interest was in learning the lullabies so that I could sing them to my daughter. I think that the book and the CD have helped me enormously. The music on the CD is simple and quiet. The main singer is very very good and sings with a bit of an operatic style. The other singer is not as great (I think that she's actually the daughter of the pianist), but she can carry a tune. My only complaint is that a lot of the songs were not researched well enough and there are lots of technical errors in titles (Baby's Bed instead of Slumber Boat), lyrics, and score... I guess you can just call it artist's liberty. For my own purposes, this is an important flaw. If you are just looking for some nice music, it's probably not as important to you. I highly recommend the music book (to which this CD is a companion) as well; it's full of lovely art. ... Read more

We've worn out 2 of these CD's already!
My 6 year old listened to this every night for over a year...it is beautiful, soothing and comforting and there is nothing to jar a child who is falling asleep. I hear him humming to it after I shut his door, and then he just drops off to sleep. It's great, and I'm buying my third copy!

Beautiful, soothing bedtime music...
We received this as a gift and began playing it at night to soothe our fussy newborn. At first I never payed much attention to the lyrics, but I did notice and appreciate the very soothing melodies. One night while holding our daughter in my arms I really started listening to the lyrics. A few of them perfectly expressed the love I felt for my her. "Father's Love" and "Little Boy Blue" brought tears to my eyes, they were so beautiful. I know I'm a father now when I have "Swedish Lullaby" running through my head all day! I'm not a fan of religious music, but most of this CD is simply beautiful music and soothing melodies -- a big improvement over some children's music I've heard. It is a Great spiritual music album for chidren and is also good for your Christain Meditation needs! I play this album to my 14 month daughter before she goes into sleep every night. Best Lullaby CD Ever
This is a lullaby CD that even grown ups will love. I listened to it in the car while commuting during my last months of pregnancy and then played it in the hospital right after my daughter was born. She loves this CD and so do I. When I have it playing in our house, visitors always comment on how beautiful it is. You can't go wrong with this one.

Take it from a doctor, "Hum-A-Byes" is an exceptioal product
As a physcian who delivers babies for a living and as a new father to a one week old baby girl, I have had the opportunity to try out "Hum-A-Byes". I have found it to be the most soothing music that not only relaxes my baby to a deep restfull sleep, but also relaxes my wife and I. I believe in this CD so much that everyone of my OB patients and their babies get a copy when they leave the hospital. We also play this CD in our hospital's newborn nursery. We find it to be very effective.

SLEEP AT LAST....
We were so delighted to find this unique and beautiful CD...we have a 4 month old, "colicky" baby girl and have spent hours pacing the floor with her....we found this CD and decided we had nothing to loose by trying it out...She LOVES the music..and now regularly sleeps to the lulling "Hum-a-Byes". Wonderful and different!
Absolutely great CD. My son loves to listen to it and we are already playing it for our expected child. The nicest part is that it is different than all the typical music out there. It's so nice that someone has given us something else to listen to!

A Must Have for Your Daughter!
I bought this for my niece 8 years ago. The soothing sounds always got her to wind down and go to bed when it was sleep time. She could even be tricked into sleep by this album, literally! The sound is that surreal! But what I like most about it is the message it gives not only to the child but also to anyone else listening! The songs are so individual and personal that she spoke about many things from the album regularly. Discussion time about who she is and her importance as a little person were enhanced by this album. She felt really special by the things she heard from the songs. The prayers in song were so heartrendering to listen to and pray along with. I strongly believe that this album has helped to shape and mould her as a confident young person. The spiritual lessons are indeed timeless and unique.

When my second niece came along she was named Abigail from one of the songs in the album. Unfortunately the Tape broke soon after she was born from constant usage. My family has been trying to find another album ever since! I wish I had had the good sense to purchase 2! Now I am trying to get another as well as the Boy version as well, "Bless My little Boy" (you just never know!). If you've got one you would like to part with let me know! I will have it!

My goodness. . what a blessing!
This is the first time I've seen this offered on Amazon. I purchased this album over 8 years ago, while taking care of a child. Since then she was joined by another sister. These girls know the songs inside and out. . . and are comforted by this album when facing stresses in their lives (shots by the doctors!) or scarey things that go bump in the night.

But, my favorite thing about this album, are the blessings that are spoken (sung) over the girls. "Father, above, bless my little one. . . may she grow to be a woman of God. May my daughter be like Ruth and Esther."

As you rock-a-bye your daughter to sleep, you also learn the words. It is very cool to sing along and pray these words of dedication over babies (even if you're not their mom!)

Best lullaby CD ever!
I have had this CD for over nine years and it is still my favorite for my two girls. They love it when I sing the songs I learned from this collection to them at bedtime. The lyrics are such a blessing to both a mother and daughter's heart.
I have used the lyrics of "Bless My Daughter" as wording for cards of congratulations to new parents of girls. Their eyes light up when they read the poetic words of how I wish their daughters to "grow to be a woman of God" while comparing them to various bible characters, ie: "May she have the faith of Sarah". The lyrics are so meaningful that many of these cards end up in the baby's scrapbook or framed on the wall of their bedrooms.

A True Bedtime Savior!!!
On a whim, my wife got this CD for our 2 1/2 year-old daughter. Before it, getting her to bed was a 2-hour process of frustration. Now we're down to about 20 minutes.

It goes, storytime, good night to her stuffed animals then Lullaby Time. No crying, no repeated requests to "Please go to sleep" -- she hits Play on the CD player and listens peacefully until she falls to sleep.

A great, great CD that I have to admit, I find myself singing from time to time.

Amazing!
If you only buy one CD for listening to with your newborn, this is it! My baby is just 11 weeks old and we listen to "Mellow my baby" over and over again every day. My husband, who is not too into lullabys, catches himself singing the songs even when the CD isn't playing! It's been wonderful and I know we will continue to listen to it while our daughter grows and can sing the songs herself. This would be a perfect gift for all new mothers, and it's what my friends will be receiving for their new babies.

Mellow my Baby: Soothing Songs & Lullabies
My 2 year old loves this CD. When we go in at night to read before bed, he turns on the CD player. The songs are beautiful and soothing and the tempo is relaxing. I only wish it had been available when he was first born.

The Perfect Voice for Lullabies
Beautiful lyrics, luscious songs, sensitive production, and a warm, glowing voice to mellow your baby to sleep. I have never enjoyed a Lullaby collection this much, and neither has my daughter. I find myself listening even after she drifts off. This CD is a winner..

Oh, how I wish I'd owned this CD when my child was a baby! Sherry Goffin Kondor's beautiful voice is sweet, soulful and soothing. The selection of songs ranges from traditional ("Rockabye Baby", "Golden Slumbers") to originals ("With You In your Dreams", "Island of Dreams").
When Sherry is done singing, it's your turn - a brilliant idea to add instrumental versions - because your baby loves the sound of your voice (even if you don't). Love it...
I'm not sure if I like this one more than my daughter or not. I highly recommend this out of all of the "Baby Genius" music product. It's very relaxing, and seems to do it's job. It's an excellant selection of music to soothe at all the right times.

A bedtime ritual
This CD has become a bedtime and naptime ritual for our son, age 3. We have had it for about one year and he requests it by name as a preference for helping him go to sleep. He has also become interested in this "Beethoven guy" and makes some associations between Beethoven, Bach and Mozart as being humans beings and guys who write music. As for increasing his intelligence as suggested on the CD, well, who knows, but it is definitely an improvement over the "kiddie" music we first introduced and which he completely rejected.
