Add Ultimate Jams to the ever-mounting stack of kids' records you grudgingly admit to liking yourself. Here, you haven't got a lot of choice: right when the Village People get done coaxing you, against your good grown-up judgment, into flapping your arms wildly to form the letters "YMCA," James Brown comes along and clobbers you with "I Got You (I Feel Good)." Yes, the nearly unbearable not-so Bubblicious bubble-gum pop numbers that only an 8-year-old could love crop up too (see "Blue [Da Ba Dee]" and "The Hampster Dance Song"), but no parent under 50 should consider herself cool unless she cops to bouncing, reflexively, to at least a few of these songs. In other words, don't be a snob: cue up the Jams and cut loose with the kids. Once you're pooped--and you will be--pop in the companion DVD. Six tracks spring to metabolism-speeding life as the radio stars clamber onto the small screen. Much stuff is strutted, most of it exhilarating. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

Thos CD rocks! I feel like jumping up and down, going crazy, and just screaming at the top of my lungs because I got this CD. This is what actually gave me the rainbow I needed to brighten up my life. ( anyway, it has a "rainbow" on the front cover!)yay! I'm so happy to have recieved this wonderful CD!

5-0 out of 5 stars The colorful, dream CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This CD has at least one song for a girl with any taste!!! I can't keep it away from me! These songs are great to dance to, too!!!! Here is my opinion about each song:

I Can't Wait- Hilary Duff = 4/5 I don't like Hilary Duff all that much, but I have to admit, this song was pretty fine!

Dig It- D Tent Boys = 5/5 This song is SOOOO catchy! It is so upbeat and so fun, too!

Spinnin Around-Jump 5 = 4.5/5 This song is so wonderful and exciting, though it does get pretty annoying after listening to it a few times

Juliet- LMNT = 4.5/5 This song is great and all, but it seems like it should be a faster song. It also has a mix of all types of music! (rap, disco, classical)!!!

Blue-Eiffel 65 = 3/5 Somehow, it is too repeative and says the same thing over and over again! I only like the part when they tell the story in the song.

Get ready for this-2 Unlimited = 4.5/5 It does seem like it goes on forever, but if you are dancing to it, it's like you can never run out of moves!

Can't help falling in love-A*TEENS = 2.5/5 If you get it stuck in your head, it gets really sickening.

Disney Mambo #5-Lou Bega = 4/5 All I can say is that it has a fun and exciting beat, but this is also sort of repeative!

YMCA-Village People = 4.5/5 One of the older songs, but still brings joy to us kids!

I Got You-James Brown = 2/5 Yucky!!! I truly don't like it!!!

YMMFLAS-The Beu Sisters = 4/5 I don't listen to this song too often, so I don't have much of an opinion of it.

Pump Up the Jam-Technotronic = 2/5 I kind of hate it! It sounds like one of those rap songs where the singer is trying to be cool.

All for Love- Stevie Brock = 5/5 I love it! It is so cute and romantic! Stevie is a pretty great singer!

The Hampster Dance Song- Hampton the hampster = 5/5 So cute!!! I just love it soooooooooo much!!!

Move it Like This- Baha Men = 4/5 Has a funky attitude, is all I can say about it!

VIDEOS:

I Can't Wait = 5/5 I like the way they showed little clips of the TV series "Lizzie Mcguire" in it!!!!!!

Spinnin Around = 5/5 Used SO many special effects, and also really showed Jump 5's true and amazind talents!!!

Disney Mambo 5 = 3/5 I don't like it, because it doesn't give you such a colorful picture! It's all white!!!!!!!!!

All for love = 5/5 Stevie looks so cool as he acts with this girl in his song!!!!!!

The Hampster Dance Song = 5/5 It is very cute, because it is animated!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disney Mania 2 = 4/5 It shows you good songs, but they are putting it in an advertising way and are only showing you about 3 seconds of each song!

After all that, I'd say it'd be at least an A-! Even that deserves ***** (5 stars)!!

5-0 out of 5 stars AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just LOVE it!!!!!!!!!! I am not exaggerating when I say that I listen to it EVERY SINGLE NIGHT! If you had the same taste as an average, (any age), person, you would get the same, tingley feeling as me, when YOU buy it. The title of this CD, ("Radio Disney Ultimate Jams"), definitely doesn't lie! They ARE the ultimate jams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I'd give it extra credit if I could!!!!
People say the Mega Movie Mix CD brings you more to the theatre than any other. THEY HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!! The radio disney ultimate jams CD/DVD bring you WAY more to the theatre than ANYTHING else! Just put the DVD part of it on a big screen TV, (or anything that can play DVDs), and grab some popcorn!!!! That's what I call a "movie excert"!!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT for 10 year olds' and up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Mega Movie Mix CD is lame, because if you've seen the movie, you've heard the song! Also, the radio disney ultimate jams CD, I think, is actually more of a "movie" than the Mega Movie MIx, because it actually has 6 different video excerts that you can watch!!!! The radio disney CD has every song that an average, 10+ years old, girl would absolutely LOVE!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

The Wiggles, that wacky, kid-wowing Australian outfit, welcome preschoolers for a lively, loopy musical fiesta with Toot Toot! Chiming in on this 23-track charmer of a dance- and sing-along are the usual wiggly suspects: Captain Feathersword relates how he loves to dance in his pirate pants on the spoken-word "Raincoat Story"; Henry the Octopus's "marvelous talent" for baking, roasting, and frying seaweed pies is celebrated on "Henry the Octopus"; and Henry's tireless tentacles also inspire the next get-you-moving tune, "Move Your Arms Like Henry." The gang drops in on Dorothy the Dinosaur on "Tell Me Who Is That Knocking?" Then rascally pup Wags gets down on "Wags the Dog, He Likes to Tango" (which, we're reminded, rhymes with mango). Mostly, this is silly, groove-along good fun, but the goofball foursome of Anthony, Murray, Greg, and Jeff also slip in a solidly educational number here and there: "Look Both Ways" drives home an important safety message for little pedestrians, and "John Bodlelum" and "I Climb 10 Stairs" reinforce recently acquired counting skills. As always, the Wiggles dish up a dose of Australianisms, but here they're easy to digest. Listening to "Food, Food, Food," curious kids who don't hail from Oz will want to know what paw-paws and rock melon are; chalk it up as a chance to turn a song they'll like into a foreign-culture learning experience, and keep on wiggling. --Tammy La Gorce ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Wiggles are amazing
to toddlers. We just got this CD in the mail yesterday, and my 17 month old daughter couldn't wait to listen to it. She ran with the CD to the stereo. She danced from start to finish. This CD has a lot of the songs from her Wiggle Time video so she really was excited to dance along, and amazingly I enjoy singing and dancing with the Wiggles also. I highly recommend this CD for anyone looking to purchase Wiggle music.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wiggles Are Wonderful!!
My 21 month old daughter is absolutely amased by the Wiggles. She watches all of their videos daily. They have really cute songs (which I catch myself singing all of the time!!) And I don't mind her watching their videos because she is learning something. The CD's are great for the car too. She will sing and laugh going down the road. I highly recommend the Wiggles to anyone with young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars ???????
I did a tour in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. I day dreamed of a thick oniony burger at Tommy's in L.A., Ann Margaret's incredible legs, lot's of beer at a Red Sox-Yankees game, Ann Margaret's legs again.

But I never once dreamt I would be dancing, thirty years later, with my two grandsons to "Wags the dog, he likes to tango" and "I climb ten stairs."

Never. Rock on, my Australian brothers. Great stuff. I don't fully understand it, but I know it's great. 5 stars. Larry Scantlebury

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Wiggles Best CDs
My son has always loved the Wiggles but this is by far his favorite Wiggles CD! Every single song has catchy lyrics and a really fun beat that keeps him singing and dancing throughout the entire CD. The songs also teach him things like crossing the street and numbers. And the CD doesn't get that annoying the tenth time in the car or at home as some of his other CDs tend to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!
This CD is great! My son loves it, and my husband and I end up humming and singing these silly songs all day long. The songs do kind of get stuck in your head, but at least they help kids learn counting, etc. ... Read more

This anthology of children-related tracks originates from the globally conscious Putamayo Records catalog. Artists from Africa (Senegal's Touré Kunda, Congo's Ricardo Lemvo), Europe (France's Manu Chao), the Caribbean (Jamaica's Cedella Marley Booker), North America (Buckwheat Zydeco and Eric Bibb from the U.S.; Canada's Teresa Doyle), South America (Brazil's Nazaré Pereira), and Australia (Trevor Adamson) offer tracks, and while the styles and moods vary, the album gels excellently. Even if the multicontinent angle strikes you as too catholic, it bears reiterating that this is a "playground" session, a collection that begins with a Senegalese in-line dance and continues through "Mardi Gras Mambo," a bongo-playing French monkey, and much more. And while the songs are playful, there's nothing in the way of tossed-off music. It's all first-rate, with the artists at the top of their games.--Andrew Bartlett ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Introduction to World Music for Young and Old Alike
This is a great CD to foster an interest in world music for young people at home or in the classroom. It is also good to promote an appreciation for other cultures.

The collection of songs are very diverse and are sung in an array of languages. In addition to the four songs sung in English, you'll also hear songs sung in Spanish (two of them), Mandingo, Pitjantjatjara (an Aboriginal language), Greek, Portuguese and Hebrew.

The extensive liner notes take you through each song complete with lyrics and a story behind the song. If the song is not sung in English, the lyrics are provided both in English and the original language.

The liner notes are written in plain English, so that elementary school age children can understand them. For example, "Three Little Birds," performed by blues legend Taj Mahal and Cedella Marley Booker (Bob Marley's mother) is described as "a reggae song about three birds who sing a song of hope." [Of course the same song was made popular in the 1970's by Bob Marley & the Wailers.] Unusual words include pronounciation and many songs include a glossary as well. So not only can a child sing along, but her or she can learn what a "tuckerbag" (food sack) is or learn to pronounce Pitjantjatjara (piddin-JAH-ra).

Now what about the music you say? It's all first-rate. For little kids, the best tracks are probably, "Three Little Birds" and "Bongo Bong." The latter was recorded by Manu Chao from France (but recorded in English). Older kids might appreciate "Tik Tik Tik," sung in Greek by Glykeria. It describes the nervous feeling one has when he or she becomes infatuated with someone.

What's also nice about this CD is the diversity of themes. There are light and playful songs, but there are also ones with a more somber tone. For example, "Zichronot M'Africa" (Memories of Africa), sung by Shlomo Gronich and the Sheba Choir (in Hebrew), tells the story of Ethiopian Jews who were flown in huge airlifts to Israel during 1991's "Operation Solomon."

In short, "World Playground" will entertain and inform your child about the world. Adults will also get a lot out of the CD and may learn new things as well. I certainly did. What a joy to make a discovery with a child? Seriously consider taking this musical journey.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun listening!
I'm a preschool music teacher in the D.C. area, and I occasionally do in-store programs for area bookstores. One store asked me to put together a program using the Putomayo World Playground CD, since it had just been released. I had a hard time deciding what songs to feature, since my daughters (age 9 and 12) and I liked so many selections. Our favorites were Mardi Gras Mambo (which I used in preschool classes around Mardi Gras time, complete with shakers and masks!), and Boom Boom Tarara -- great rhythm for dancing and rhythm instruments. Actually, we also LOVED the slow version, in Aboriginese, of Waltzing Matilda -- we made up a dance, and our Junior Girl Scout troop used this music for an international program. Everyone loved it! The CD is packed with danceable music, and even babies and toddlers will respond to the exciting rhythms and melodies. Lots of fun, and not the same-old-thing for kids to listen to -- we LOVE World Playground!

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPER CD!!
My family & I are in love w/ all the Putamayo Playground CDs!! Not only are we being exposed to music from all over the world, we are listening to ENJOYABLE children's music. These CDs have really spoiled me, it is hard to go back to more "traditional" children's music after listening to these amazing CDs! I can't wait to see what they come out w/ next.

5-0 out of 5 stars Benjamin's Favorite
I bought this album when my son was only a few months old but then we moved and I didn't get around to unpacking all my CD's. I finally put this on for him (he is 18 months old now)and this is by far his favorite CD. I have a good collection of Raffi, classical, Sesame Street (35 yrs on the street), etc. but this is the only one that ENGROSSES him completely. The other CD's he listens to in the background, this one he stops whatever he's doing and stands and listens, dances, chants and it just absorbs him. I sometimes think that kids like what they hear the most because repetition is so important to how they learn at this age, but I don't play this anymore than the others, he just is really interested in it. I'm going to get world playground 2 today!

5-0 out of 5 stars Child Development Classes LOVE this CD!
Before becoming a stay at home mom I worked in a Child Development Lab with infants and toddlers. Every child we had, from age 8 months to 3 years, absolutely LOVED this CD! It is great to dance to, to make art to, to have on while you eat, everything! Those little kids heads would just be-bop away, and mine would, too! It has great rhythms, fun words (even when you can't pronounce them!). The insert that tells the stories behind and the the English words to each song is very interesting! I could listen to this CD every day, more than once a day. I always said it would be a great CD to clean the house to! I am ordering it for my 2 year old and cannot wait for the shipment to arrive! ... Read more

Elizabeth Mitchell is a smidge less locked into the no-frills folkie formula on You Are My Sunshine than on her debut, You Are My Flower. In fact, if you subtract the A-list collaborators (and, OK, the dulcimers, mandolins, and human beat boxes), Mitchell starts to look a lot like the female Dan Zanes. The same rootsy sensibility rules both artists’ recordings, as does a reverence for tried-and-true folk tunes ("Good Night Irene," "Skip to My Lou") and clean production. More significantly, slivers of Zane-like adventurousness shine through here: "Alphabet Dub" set the ABCs to a reggae beat; "Hey Bo Diddley" tips its hat to the rock & roll pioneer; and the kids are called in to spice up "Crawdad." Counting kids' artists who are genuinely cool still requires fewer than 10 fingers, but with Flower and Sunshine, Mitchell proves she's among the elite. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars terrific!
my son is only 9 months old but i swear this cd keeps him happy while playing with his toys & in the car (never has been a car-baby). it has a nice variety of upbeat & slower tunes. elizabeth has a beautiful voice & the accompanying music is great too. i purchased the cd since it had such positive reviews & i wasn't disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow
What a marvelous treat! Elizabeth Mitchell's voice is soothing and casts a spell on grown ups and children alike. Such quality in children's music is hard to find, as parents know these days. This is a real treasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Parents, keep your street cred and enchant your home
This might be the best children's album I've ever heard. Mitchell's soothing voice and folky instrumentation (toy pianos, acoustic guitars, sing-alongs) evoke memories of my own childhood, sitting around campfires, wide-eyed and transfixed at the magical stories spun by a guitarist through her music. The songs range from sad to charming to silly (the ABC's in reggae?). The set covers almost all the bases of children's folk music, with some well chosen standards ("Skip To My Lou," including some silly new verses) and covers (Schoolhouse Rock's "3 is the Magic Number" and "Goodnight Irene" by Leadbelly). The standout track is the traditional piece "Froggy Went a Courtin" (which has also been covered by the venerable Bob Dylan, to give you an idea of Mitchell's skill in song selection). It's the irreverent story of Mr. Frog and Miss. Mouse's wedding...but only after her uncle rat gives his blessing! Finally, the added bonus of owning this disc is that since Mitchell is from the indie band Ida, you can still keep your street cred among your hip but non-child-having buddies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and relaxing
I am a nanny who first heard this cd at one on my family's home. The child enjoyed it and I enjoyed it. I get tired of hearing Thomas the Train and Raffi, and so I bought this CD for the two other families I work for. They thought it was a great gift, and I finally found some music both the children and I could enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet singalong tunes
While the anti-Barney "music we can all enjoy" for hipster parents is starting to become a bit of a cliche, this CD is a keeper. Very simple, very sweet, very singalong-able. It even got Dad warbling (Skip to My Lou). One particular favorite is "Ladybug Picnic" which parents may remember from their Sesame Street days. The music is great for anytime of day...getting up in the morning, dinner time, night time. Buy it and you'll find yourself remembering words to songs you used to know. ... Read more

Dust off your blue suede shoes and polish up the tail fins on the Chevy: this album transports listeners back to the 1950s and early 1960s with all-time classic rock & roll. Children will love the strong rhythms, (sometimes) silly words, and easy-to-follow vocals. Adults will enjoy the cruise down memory lane with megahits like "Rock Around the Clock," "Willie & the Hand Jive," "Rockin' Robin," and "Name Game." 5-0 out of 5 stars A Child's Celebration of Rock 'n' Roll
My daughters and I love this CD. It is fun to sing along and we have a great time listening to it. I think that the songs provide my children with exposure to older music which is much different from the sounds they usually listen to. We really enjoy it for how fun and invigorating it is to listen to.

4-0 out of 5 stars A rockin' good time!
This CD is so much fun for our daughter. Nothing beats those great ole tunes. You can't help but dance to this music with your child! My only complaint is there are a few songs that we skip over, but most of them are worth listening to time and time again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun.
My son loves this cd and I like it too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tunes and parents love it too!
Our infant daughter finds this music very relaxing. It's great
"travel in the car" entertainment for both adults and children.
The music is all the old time favorites that everyone can sing along and it's a great collection. Makes a great gift for children and their parents.

4-0 out of 5 stars My kids love it!
These are probably the songs my grandparents didn't want my parents listening to when they were kids. Oh, well. Change happens. These tunes are super fun for my grammar-school-aged children. They get such a kick out of the "Purple People Eater" that they have to play it for any new friend who comes over. They have had hours and hours or fun singing and dancing to these old classics from the early days of Rock 'N Roll. And parents will enjoy it, too. ... Read more

Just as adult authors from Isabel Allende to Clive Barker are writing kids' books these days, rock & roll artists (remember Jerry Garcia and David Grisman's 1993 recording Not for Kids Only?) are reaching out to the younger set. Thank goodness, we say... and scoot over, Barney. Festival Five Records is the children's music label founded by Dan Zanes, former lead singer of the Del Fuegos, where he hopes to capture "the sound of a neighborhood band on the front stoop playing tunes after dinner for a family dance." His third CD release, Night Time! ("a musical cool-down disc for all ages underground"), comes on the heels of Rocket Ship Beach and Family Dance. Here, traditional tunes such as the West Indian sea shanty "Pay Me My Money Down" and the African American folk song "Down by the Riverside" take their place next to folksy, hypnotic Zanes originals, including "Night Owl," "Firefly," and "Linger for Awhile," a song aimed to reflect Brooklyn stoop life. Mandolins, harmonicas, trombones, fiddles, electric guitars (and more!) add to the contagious buoyancy of this eclectic 16-track CD. Our favorite is "Rattlin' Bog," a delightfully nonsensical cumulative song, led by Father Goose and featuring the kids in the Dandelion Chorus. As in his other CDs, Zanes invites friends and family to join the fun, along with heavy-hitters such as Aimee Mann, Lou Reed, and Dar Williams. This irresistible collection, appealing to toddlers and easy on their parents, is packaged in a colorful board book illustrated by Donald Saaf with starry scenes of moonlit music making. An excellent addition to any children's music library. --Karin Snelson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD for Kids and Adults
We saw Dan Zanes perform here in Houston and it was great. Afterwards we bought the Cd and our two year old loves it. It's kind of funny to hear your child singing "Pay me/ You Owe me" at the top of his lungs in the car.

Musically, it's quite sophisticated folk music that most adults will enjoy juts a smuch as the kids. The thing I really appreciate is that Zanes doesn't dumb it down for the kids. Oh and yea, guests include people like Lou Reed and the brillian Pappa Goose (who you just have to see live to appreciate fully) are a treat.

You won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars so great!
We love this CD!!! The music is so fun and wholesome while also musically sophisticated. There are so many great instruments and words...fantastic. This CD has been a nice background while pacing with an overtired little one. It is also great sing a long music as well. I can't wait to get the rest of Dan Zanes CD's!

5-0 out of 5 stars Danny Zanes Rocks The Little One To Sleep
Simply put, Danny Zanes and Friends Night Time is a knock out punch for warm hearted, cool minded little ones. My wife and I are fairly serious about getting our 1 year old Marley introduced to music she can really enjoy and groove to from day one. Danny and crew offer the beat, lyrics and diversity we find so appealing.

Let me reiterate our enthusiasm by saying: 1. this is the best kids cd ever made (we have dozens); 2. all Danny Z. CDs are fun for the whole family (if you can get certain songs out of mind); 3. we have changed our answering machine message several times in the past year and always default to a Danny Z. song in the background (if only for a lick or two); 4. we just ordered 9 copies for all our friends who recently announced a birth!

How's that for a ringing endorsement.

Have fun,

Paul Klein, SF California

5-0 out of 5 stars My fussy baby loves it!
Not only is this a fun CD for kids and adults, my fussy 3 month old baby really loves it. There are times when he's fussy and crying and as soon as I put this CD on and the first song starts playing, he immediately stops crying and calms down! He also hates the car and cries whenever we drive anywhere, so I have this CD in the car as well. It has made our car trips much more enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Night Time Shines
I am a night owl. I am also new to the music of Dan Zanes and Friends. All of his cd's are treasures. I relate to the theme of this one because I too am a night owl. Why can't I be in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, jamming with these folks?? Nothing could be more fun. I have a friend who plays guitar. I sat at my piano, and he sat with guitar, and together we learned to play the title song. Montana isn't Brooklyn, but the spirit of making music is alive, thanks to Dan Zanes and Friends. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars De Colores was terrific
It brought me back to when I was a child. The lyrics varied a bit, but I grew up in Costa Rica whereas the song writer/singer is from Mexico. Somehow I think his is the original.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great CD!!!
I bought this CD for my nephew when he was about 5 months old. He is alomost a year now, and he loves it!! He listens to it everyday. As soon as the music comes on, he starts to smile and dance! The songs are very catchy, and you will probably find yourself singing along! It is very hard to resist!

5-0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking!
Wow! If you are a kid or a middle-aged big kid (like me) and like Latino folk music, this album offers a treasury of goodies, ranging from traditional Mexican songs such as "El Chocolate," "La Arana Pequenita," and "La Granja" to a song from Puerto Rico, "El Coqui." The next to last song, "Paz y Libertad," is a hauntingly beautiful anthem to social justice and ecological issues, reminiscent of the early work of Pete Seeger. My only complaint is the paucity of liner notes, as I am left with the impression that Orozco is a fascinating person.

The Spanish is easy to understand and should prove popular in classrooms. Having listened to this album, I want to check out his ten-volume "Lirica Infantil. One final word: you may also want to get the accompanying book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great music for "kids" of all ages!
We bought this for our almost 2 year old daughter before a long car trip -- and we found that we loved it as much as she did. It was equally good for fun and for calming her down when she was fussy, and it was music we didn't get sick of (very important since we all know the pain of annoying children's music). We found it had a nice mix of traditional songs, action songs, slow songs, and rhythmic songs. Some good standard favorites. Like the others who bought this tape/CD, friends who are monolingual liked it as much as binlingual folks. I've even purchased it for an adult friend learning Spanish -- but someone who's admittedly young at heart and likes kids! Would highly recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars dual language
I am originally from Mexico and I want my 3 year old son to be bilingual like me. He loves to listen to this cd and sings along everytime I put it on. I also teach second grade in a dual language program, and my students both English and Spanish speakers join in and sing. I recommend this cd and many of the others by Jose Luis Orozco to anybody teaching Spanish to children! ... Read more

In John Lithgow's most memorable roles, he's played the outsider: the transsexual former football player in The World According to Garp, the alien in Third Rock from the Sun. On Singin' in the Bathtub, he puts the same aspect of his character that's made him successful in those roles--the slightly-out-of-touch wonder at the obvious--to work on 14 children's songs. Backed by a big band (and the occasional banjo or musical saw), Lithgow takes on topics from multiple births (the Alice in Wonderland-esque "Triplets"), the alphabet ("You're Adorable, A" which recalls Really Rosie's "Alligators All Around"), and a veritable menagerie ("The Gnu Song," "I Had a Rooster," "The Hippopotamus Song," and "The Inchworm"). He kicks off the title song with a reminder to "Grab your ducky, grab your toy boat--let's make this fun!" It's a triumph that he manages to do so for the entire album; but be warned--Lithgow's energy level is tough to keep up with, and you might find yourself exhausted long before the album ends. --Randy Silver ... 5-0 out of 5 stars As energetic as your toddler!
We received this CD as a baby gift when we had our first child. Little did we know it would become such an integral part of our lives! Each time we climb into the car, my 2-year old asks for "fish ball" (The Codfish Ball) and "aff-bet song" (A-You're Adorable). She knows all the words by heart and sings until her tiny voice fills the entire car. Personally, I can't help but sing along to most of the songs, but "No One Loves You Better Than Your M-O-Double M-Y" is especially good and Lithgow's remake of "Swingin' on a Star" is just plain fun.

The only (minor) thing I don't like is that in the song, "Triplets," they say "...and we hate each other very much, we hate our folks, we are sick of jokes and what an art it is to tell us apart!" It's all said very quickly and in fun, but "hate" isn't a concept I'd like my kids to think is acceptable. We skip this song when we listen.

Overall, I highly recommend this CD. It's high quality--the music, the lyrics, and the energetic John Lithgow make it our top pick during a car ride (with the Bear in the Big Blue House Soundtrack coming in a close second). It's not for those who are looking for a soft lullaby, but if you want music as energetic and fun as your toddler, this is it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The adults in this house are wearing out the CD!
We have really enjoyed this CD immensely. My husband is an aficionado of obscure, funny music; the more obscure, the better. So listening to this recording has been a true pleasure for him. It's gotten so that we can sing along without Mr. Lithgow's pleasant voice prompting us on the words. My personal favorite is the loud swing number "Everybody Eats When They Come to My House", which I dance to while doing dishes. My husband's favorite is "From the Indies to the Andes in his Undies" which made him go out and purchase a Hoosier Hotshots CD so he could hear more of their music.
I'm not really fond of Mr. Lithgow's one original composition and tend to skip over it. The repeated use of the euphemism "heck" rubs me the wrong way.
For those of you who are tearing your hair out trying to figure out where "Triplets" comes from, it's from the movie "The Band Wagon". And "Skin" was originally recorded by Alan Sherman back in the early 1960s. My husband could tell you a lot more about the origins of some of these songs, but I'm writing the review, not him. Suffice it to say that in my estimation, this is John Lithgow's very best work. Easily accessible for kids and adults and just plain fun to listen to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank goodness for this CD
We all want our children to be happy and listen to toddler music, but frankly, most of it starts to get on your nerves after listening to it over and over and over again. Some productions are good, some are fair, and some are really awful, and for the most part, I cross my fingers when I purchase a new children's tape or CD. Then along comes John Lithgow! Yeah! This CD is GREAT! I enjoy listening to it, and my boys think it's hilarious. Actually, I do, too. "Big Kids," "Triplets," -- oh, heck, every song is awesome. Lithgow is so talented, and you can really see that he did not miss his calling when he became a performer. Love the arrangements, and the banjo gets my toes tappin'. Buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC!
I bought the CD originally because I had heard one of the songs (in it's original form) while on terminal hold with a company and thought it was catchy. Really didn't like John Lithgow or anything he had been in until this CD. We have LOVED this CD and have shared it with many other families and fun-loving friends without children! I don't really like the "Triplets" song and try to skip it, of course, my kids love it and won't let me. Really like that these songs are different, quirky, and fun. Very cleverly done.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great singalong fun
I bought this CD to teach myself the words to "A... You're Adorable." I wasn't expecting too much from the rest of the disc. But I got sucked in. This is a great disc full of fun songs. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the song about the triplets is annoying; I always fast-forward through it. But the other songs are fabulous. The Hippopotamus song along is worth the price of the full disc: "Mud, mud, glorious mud!"
Lithgow isn't a virtuoso singer. If you're looking for an album with vocal excellence, try Perry Como (whose "A... You're Adorable" put me to sleep).
But Lithgow brings a lot of verve to these songs. And it's a great selection of fun children's songs that aren't mind-numbingly insipid. ... Read more

With Kid Astro, the one-man musical universe that is Ralph Covert pulls up a chair alongside heroes and legends. Ralph's talent as a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, proved over the course of the first four Ralph's World discs and again here, plant him in the upper echelon of all pop performers--check out the bright California melodies of "Sun In My Eyes" and the hooky chorus of "Treehouse Orchestra." But it's the depth of humor in his discs that sets him apart. Like the scripts and characters in Sesame Street, certain Pixar films and, yes, SpongeBob Squarepants, Ralph's songs work brilliantly on a couple of levels. "Old Man Dan" is a crotchety guy who lives in a garbage can and says "humbug" a lot, to the delight of any 3-year-old. But to grown-ups, he's also a hilarious parody courtesy of Ralph's blustery, puff-chested delivery. Each of these songs rockets listeners of any age to places they'd rather be--the hallmark of a stratospheric talent. With any luck, the genre known as family music will hang onto him for at least a few discs longer. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome soundtrack
I really enjoyed this soundtrack! My 21 month old points and begs, "Pooh, Pooh, Pooh!" when the cd changes from this one to another. My fourth grade students loved it so much we decided to retell Pooh's Heffalump Movie into a play, inserting songs from this cd, Piget's Big Movie, and the Tigger Movie. I wish the cd came with lyrics!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great addition to your Disney music collection
If your child loves Winnie the Pooh, this has the songs from the new Heffalump movie, plus from Piglet's Big Movie, and all the best classic Pooh thrown in -- so if you buy only one Winnie the Pooh album, this one is it!

Carly Simon does a great job of making the songs great for adults to listen along to.You can't go wrong with this collection if you are a Pooh bear fan, its been a favorite must turn on in the car of my 4 year old for a couple of months now!

Songs For The Inner Child is a collection of chants and lullabies, both traditional and contemporary, sung with the gentle voice of a loving mother. The songs are healing and soothing for listeners of all ages, carrying powerful messages of affirmation and comfort. Over 200,000 copies have been sold worldwide.

With Shaina Noll on lead and harmony vocals, New Age keyboard artist Jim Oliver produced and contributed instrumentally to many of the tracks. Rusty Crutcher, best known for his "Sacred Sites" series of albums, plays saxophone on "Deep Peace". Shaina's husband, Richard, contributes harmony vocals and recorder tracks.

Songwriters Cris Williamson, Libby Roderick, Susan McCullen and Bill Douglas are among those whose songs are featured on the album along with Shaina's composition, "Peace Be With You".

Lyrics include:

"How could anyone ever tell you you were anything less than beautiful...how could anyone ever tell you you were less than whole...how could anyone fail to notice that your loving is a miracle...how deeply you're connected to my soul..."

"You can relax now...you are the child of God, and that will never change"

"Peace be with you, oh my dear one...peace be with you, precious child...angels hover all about you, they protect you, night and day...angels over all about you, they will guide you on your way..."

The first time i heard this song i was on a Renewal Retreat the words touch my heart so i begin to cry. One of the sisters did a dance along with the music,I said i must have this cd i ordered it. The only place i could find it was at amazon.com The whole CD is just beautiful when i'm having one of those tough days i put on Shaina Noll Songs for the inner child and it brings peace to my soul.

5-0 out of 5 stars Uplifting!
I actually had never heard of Shaina Noll. I was cooling down in an exercise class when they played the first song on this CD "How could anyone ever tell you you were anything less than beautiful....." these are song of encouragement and love and an uplifting kind of positive message that is so lacking in the world today. If you ever have felt like you don't matter, listen to these songs! Every one of them is fantastic and you will walk away feeling so good about yourself and you will want to pass on that good feeling to eveyone around you! Thank you Shaina for something so positive to listen to. What a nice thing you did for your children singing them songs like this!

5-0 out of 5 stars Songs for the Inner Child - Remarks
A very powerful and emotional CD!
Anyone not owning it yet, should add it to thier collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars healing music
This is perhaps the most beautiful music I have ever listened to. The music is soothing and the lyrics are profound. I often listen to this in my office or at the end of a long day to center myself. I also use this with the nursing home residents and hospice patients I work with - it is great for pain management as well as spiritual reflection.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, beautiful healing experience
I am a Family Therapist that works with at-risk children and their familes in their home. I have recommended this CD so many times to my clients and have personally bought many copies for my friends and family. I recently was working with a little boy (7yrs) and his single father. The youngster has had severe brain damage caused by living in his mother's home that was being used as a Meth lab. He has a long list of challenges and diagnosis that have really complicated his life. He has rage issues and loses himself in the rage for hours. Recently I was at the home when he went into a rage. I quickly ran out to my truck and grabbed my copy of "Songs for the Inner Child" and dashed back in the house. Before the second song was completed this little boy had calmed down and was peacefully talking to his loving father.
I have had similar reports from other clients, both adults and teens, who have found a lot of healing and peace from these beautiful healing songs. I highly recommend it. ... Read more

Father of five children, pop musician Kenny Loggins follows up 1994's highly successful Return to Pooh Corner with this More Songs collection. "Your Heart Will Lead You Home," the title track for Disney's animated Tigger Movie, leads off. Cowritten with Disney's legendary songwriting Sherman Brothers, "Your Heart" sets the tone for what is to come: a various-source compilation of clean, classic family fare in the tradition of The Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh, and Beauty and the Beast. "Flying Dreams," a ballad from The Secret of Nimh beautifully pairs the artist with Olivia Newton-John. Loggins's original "Always, in All Ways" tenderly champions unconditional parental love, and "That'll Do" from Randy Newman's score for Babe: Pig in the City is a welcome treat. "Turn Around" and "The Inchworm" sound a more nostalgic note, rounding out More Songs into a truly lovely collection. --Paige La Grone ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than first Pooh album
Fell in love with this beautiful collection after the first play. Even better than the original Songs From Pooh Corner effort. Some truly beautiful songs here. I listen to it when I need to relax -- at home or in the car -- and before I go to bed at night. If you have kids, you really need to have this CD. A real joy! Buy this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars We really like this!
Our family likes this Cd. I checked this out at the Longview Public Library, and my parents and I started listening to it. I've never had a copy of this before. I thought I hated it, but now I found it was not so bad. I like all the songs including Your Heart Will Lead You Home from The Tigger Movie, You'll Be In My Heart from Tarsan, Flying Dreams from the movie The Secret Of NIMH, Turn Around, Beauty And The Beast, and Good Night. I bought this album at a music store to give me a sense of calm assurance. It also helps put me to sleep I have this along with Olivia Newton-John's Warm And Tender, Tina Malia's Lullaby Favorites, and Linda Ronstadt's Dedicated To The One I Love. I wasn't sick of it as I said once. I like this album now. I give this album to parents and children of the future. It'll help your children sleep better at night because it's nice and smooth. I like dreamy music. This Pooh corner Cd is the real treat for all of you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Have Your Kleenex Ready!
My husband bought this CD for our 1 year old. I thought he was crazy, spending so much on music for a baby. But, he told me that I would be thanking him when were driving to Florida (an 18 hour drive, for vacation) and she started crying. Well, he was right, as soon as she started to fuss, we popped this CD in, and she quieted right down. Our whole family loves this CD, I haven't gotten tired of it yet. The song, "Turn Around" get's me every time, and I get all teary eyed. It's about how fast children grow up. So, if you are driving, be careful while you listen to this one, because if you are as sappy as me, you will have tears streaming down your face before it's done!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for children 4-7
As a Dance Teacher I love this cd! I use it in class along with Kenny's other Pooh Corner CD. I enjoy the songs and so do the kids. There is something for all of us. Its great to get newer versions of the songs that I loved growing up and share them with my students.

4-0 out of 5 stars good sleepy music
I work in a daycare center, and have Return to Pooh Corner. This is a great follow up CD. It's not quite as good as the first, but I am biased to All the Pretty Little Ponies. Kenny's version is the BEST I have EVER heard. This CD does put the little ones in a state of placid rest, however. It's just great to have kid music that adults can tolerate, too! ... Read more

What could possibly be cooler than hipping kids to some of the best pop music ever made? Music for Little People makes this project simple by producing a batch of the Beatles' sunniest songs performed by a prime adult band and your children's peers and slightly reworked in kid-friendly keys. The result is largely devoid of over-the-top cutesy-poo histrionics--these kids can really sing and the harmonies are quite commendable. Young listeners will be thrilled to sing along on the bouncy chorus of "Life Goes On," to count and do the alphabet on "All Together Now," and to distinguish the amusing sounds of a penny whistle, mandolin, and zither. Both Raffi and blues artist Eric Bibb make guest appearances, but the shining star at this party is child singer Bernie Steinberg, who takes lead on three tunes, including the touchingly performed "Mother Nature's Son" and the amazingly soulful "Birthday." --Paige La Grone ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Two thumbkins up!
While my kids love repetition, I myself was getting tired of "I'm a Little Teapot" and "Monkeys on the Bed", so when I stumbled on this CD I thought, "Great!" At first, I thought it was going to be original Beatle songs, with the Beatles actually singing, but it's not and actually I'm GLAD about that. My daughters (ages 3 and 1) don't know the Beatles, but they DO love to hear other children sing, offkey or not.

I only wish that the Beatles had written "Puff the Magic Dragon." It surely would have been included in this wonderful compilation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Psssst! Hey, kid. . . .
Wait a minute. Considering the song selection, you might as well just make a tape or whatever of the originals, and throw 'The End' into the bargain.

1-0 out of 5 stars Get the Beatles instead
I thought I had a pretty high threshold for kids music but this is really just bad. I even passed it around my office and solicited comments about which song was, in fact, the worst. I ended up mixing my own Beatles versions of these songs for my son. I'd recommend picking up the Beatles albums and skipping this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Brings Kids and Parents together
"Beatles Songs for Kids" is an excellent way to close up the generation gap between parents and their children. The only thing that keeps me from giving this a perfect rating of 5 is the noticable absence of such hits as "Why Don't We Do it in the Road", "Happiness is a Warm Gun", and "Maxwell's Silver Hammer".

1-0 out of 5 stars Please??????
First I know alot of people are saying that this is for kids and people shouldn't complain. But I do not see the point, its not like little kids have a particular attachment to the beatles. I'm sure that there is someone out there that is willing to write songs for this venue there is no reason to destroy classic songs to line the pockets of Michel Jackson(who owns the publishing rights to these songs).
And I also feel that songs like "with a little help from my friends" do not belong here, after all the song is about getting high with friends. Whats next? nine inch nails for kids featuring the song "closer". These songs aren't written for children, they are written for older people, introduce your kids to the beatles when they get a little more understanding for them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD CD!!
I hate when people say that new music is "Bad Music", I lose respect for those types of comments and those types of people. Those artist work just as hard as Led Zepplin or The Rolling Stones, who are played out. This CD is great, I'm 16 & I listen to Britney, Fantasia, & Mariah Carey (Who are all my favorite artist). I think every kid should have this in their collection, I bought it for my little cousin, and even I listen to it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for kids
Kids who watch Nickelodeon like music geared to them. They are not looking for special meaning, great guitar riffs,or good drummers. They like what sounds good to them and this is it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this CD
This CD is filled with the pop hits of 2003 and 2004. Almost all of them are not worth hearing more than once. The only reason you should ever buy this cd is because of Switchfoot's "dare you to move". So, instead of buying this cd, just buy "the beautiful letdown" by Switchfoot.

1-0 out of 5 stars The best compilation ever!
I love this CD! It has the best most talented bands and singers ever! Not only are the good bands only on MTV, but also Nick and every other kid network. I especially love the Clay aiken song; he's soooooooooooooo emtional and talented poseur bands like Fear Factory wish they were this good!!! It also has the bestest band of all times: Good Charlotte! Fo not buy any underground garbage, support the mainstream!

If you took ANY of that seriously, this CD is for you.

GOOD MUSIC IS FADING AWAY. INSTEAD OF LISTENING TO GREAT BANDS THAT ACTUALLY SOUND GOOD SUCH AS THE WHO, LED ZEPPLIN, THE RAMONES, THE BEATLES AND MANY OTHER GREAT BANDS WHICH SOME OF THEM ARE EVEN SUITIABLE FOR KIDS, WE GET AWFUL BANDS LIKE SWITCHFOOT, GOOD CHAROLOTE, AND LIL ROMEO. THIS TEACHES CHILDREN NOT TO APPRECIATE THE GOOD MUSIC. WHEN ALOT OF KIDS LISTEN TO THESE BANDS THAT CAN ACTUALLY PLAY, ALL THEY SEE THEM AS IS OLD MUSIC AND THEN THEY WATCH MTV'S ASHLLEE SIMPSON SHOW. NONE OF THESE BANDS HAVE ANY IF LITTLE TALENT. INSTEAD OF QUEEN'S HIT 'BOHEMIAM RHAPSODY', WE GET GOOD CHAROLOTE'S SONG 'BOYS LIKE BOYS' OR HOWEVER IT GOES. KIDS, PUTDOWN SWITCHFFOT AND PICKUP A FAIRLY DESCENT ALBUMS AND STOP SUPPORTING THESE POSEURS. THE ONLY BANDS THAT ARE FAIRLY DESCENT THST KEEP ROCK FROM DIENG ARE JET, THE DARKNESS, KORN, SLIPKNOT AND SEVERAL OTHER BANDS. DONT BUY THIS CRAP. TMBG (a.k.a. they might be giants) are a great band and took a chance with an instrumental song (without words) and the CD is not a "singing cd" as some here have called it, it is simply a cd for revivals of artists' favorite songs. TMBG did a great job on this CD, and was not designed for preteen kids who don't like instrumental music yet. as for raven and hilary, kudos to the editors! seriously, they made the actresses sound great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Takes you back in time! A MUST buy!
If you had ever seen a Disney "Classic," such as Cinderella or The Lion King, you will ADORE this CD. It takes you back to your childhood, when you first saw the movie. Of course, I wanted more songs in this CD, such as "Colors of the Wind," which I love. And more songs from "The Lion King" (all three of them) and the Jungle Book. "Look for the bear..."

1. Welcome (Brother Bear)-Jump5. I like it. It has a modern beat to it. And I loved hearing part on it on "Brother Bear." But still, I don't know if Jump5 had the voices to sing it, and the lyrics are okay. 4/5

2. True to Your Heart (Mulan)-Raven. Now, I love this one! Raven adds a classy and modern voice to this song from the popular movie. I love the beat, and I think you will too. 5/5

3. It's a Small World-Baha Men. The song is for Disneyland, not from a movie. I didn't really like the beat, but how can you NOT like a Baha Men song? I like to dancing to it though. 4/5

4. He's a Tramp (Lady and the Tramp)-the Beu Sisters. There's a lead singer that sings most of the lyrics, and she has the voice for it. It's hard to describe, but her voice fits the song perfectly! And some of the things said it the background made me laugh. I love this song! 5/5

5. Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah (Song of the South)-Stevie Brock. I thought Stevie would do better. My least favorite song on this CD. I really didn't understand what he was saying, and I don't think you would either. The beat is good for little childeren to dance to though. 2/5

6. The Siamese Cat Song (Lady and the Tramp)-Hilary and Haylie Duff. Usually, I don't like Hilary Duff songs, but in this song (co-performed by her older sister) she really shines. And sisters are perfect for it, because of the end. I really liked listening to it, and I bet you will too. 5/5

7. Circle of Life (The Lion King)-Disney Channel Circle of Stars.(Orlando Brown, Hilary Duff, Tahj Mowry, Kyla Pratt, Raven, Christy Carlson Romano, AJ Trauth, and Anneliese van der Pol) This song is really touching. It brought me back to when I first saw it in 1997 (or somewhere around there) with my late Grandpa. The beat, lyrics, voice, everything, is perfect. If you listen to one song on the CD, it should be this. 5/5

8. A Whole New World (Aladdin)-LMNT. I don't think the voices really fitted the song. And the beat was different. I liked the original better. 3/5

9. One Another Dream (Sleeping Beauty)-no secrets. I really like the beat and the voices for the song was really good. Great to dance to. I sing along to it all the time. 4/5

10. Anytime You Need a Friend (Home on the Range)-the Beu Sisters. They did it again! Great song. I like song and the style of the song it great. I love this song. 5/5

11. The Second Star to the Right (Peter Pam)-Jesse McCartney. I'm a fan of Jesse McCartney, so I wasn't surprised that this song was so good. Jesse's voice is dreamy, and I love it. 5/5

12. When You Wish Upon a Star (Pinocchino)-Ashley Gearing. I never heard of her before, but I will buy her CD and more! WYWUAS is my favorite Disney song, and Ashley made me love it even more. I adore the lyrics and the beat. It brings me back, all right. And I LOVE it. 6(SIX)/5

13. A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes (Cinderella)-Daniel Bedingfield. I love this song. I would like to waltz to it one day. Daniel brings a classic touch to it, and it "spices" up in the middle. 5/5

14. Baroque Hoedown (Disney's Electrical Parade)-They Might Be Giants. Not much voice, just sounds. My brother loves it, I like the beat and style of it too. 4/5

I'm listening to the CD as I write this, so you get exactly what I think of it. This review took me almost 50 minutes, so you can see that I really thought each song over.
Buy the CD. I swear, you'll love it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Buy!
What a fabulous CD. This was the first CD we bought for our daughter. 10 months later and all of us still enjoy listening to it. (For new parents, it's a great way to relearn some standard kid's songs.)

5-0 out of 5 stars The one and only
My 3 year old requests to listen to this CD over and over again! It is fantastic since I know the words to all the songs too. I love singing and dancing around the house with my son to this CD. It is much better than laying around the house and watching another movie. What was even better was listening to this CD on our last road trip. I never heard a peep out of him except his singing! It is a MUST HAVE!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for All Ages!!!
My 3 month old loves to listen to all types of music. I am a working mother, so when I pick him up at daycare, I have chores that need to be done when I get home. I put this CD in, and it keeps my son happy and occupied while he listens to Elmo and his friends. I play this CD over and over again! It is fantastic since most of the songs are ones I grew up with, and I know the words, so he can hear my voice singing along. I love dancing and singing with my son, and I even catch my husband singing along. It is A MUST HAVE for ALL Ages!!

5-0 out of 5 stars We love this one!
This is a great rendition of kids songs. My 2 1/2 year old wants to listen to it over and over. He even suggested we sing and play Ring Around the Rosie at gym class. And when Elmo yells that he needs a life preserver or the Count won't stop counting, I can't stop laughing. And I'm a grown up, honest.

5-0 out of 5 stars yeah!
Who can compete with this solid classic? Dark Side of the Moon? OK Computer? Abbey Road? Electric Ladyland? Bridge Over Troubled Water? Goodbye Yellow Brick Road? None of the previous I have to say. I have experienced several of these classics but none have matched up to the experience you get from these unforgettable tunes. I'm 23 and this is the only album I have listened to straight through every single day since I bought it. It has so much variety. The fun, despite being stereotypical to my German heritage, John Jingleheimer Schmit is always enjoyable. Ring Around the Rosy is a short, yet classic number that leaves you screaming for more. It includes darker numbers, too such as the cynical Grouch Medley, and In the Evening by the Moonlight Hoots the Owl. And This Little Piggy Went to the Market is a great way to finnish off the album. It has more energy and textures than any song I've heard since Bohemian Raphsody. The amazing part is how accessable it is. Kids like it just as much as adults and thats really intresting because it has taken me years to fully appreciate what has been done here. Basically, if you don't own it and you call yourself a music fan, you better hold your tongue. Go out! Buy it today! ... Read more

It's always refreshing to find a kids' album that doesn't seem uniquely designed to drive adults crazy. As you pop in this CD and putter, you might not even notice that its bouncy, folksy, Squeeze-meets-John Prine-meets-Lovin' Spoonful music is for kids, until you hear phrases like "belly button," "dinosaur," "mud puddle"--and the familiar strains of "The Muffin Man." Happy Lemons is Chicago-based artist Ralph Covert's third children's music release, after the popularRalph's World andAt the Bottom of the Sea. As ever, Covert writes (and sings) most of the songs on Happy Lemons, from "Sammy the Dog" to "Dinosaur Rumble," though familiar songs like "Pony Boy" (arranged by Bruce Springsteen) and Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "What's New, Pussycat?" also make appearances. This effervescent CD manages to offer up blues, folk, pop, and jazz elements without a hiccup. A particular favorite is the silly but harmonious "Betty Botter," which tinkers with the traditional tongue-twister about making bitter batter better to great effect. Special guests on the album include blues artist Corky Siegel, rock drummer Matt Walker, and an exuberant chorus of kids. Children's book illustrator Giselle Potter (Gabriella's Song, Kate and the Beanstalk) designed the whimsical cover for this CD, giving form to the trombone-playing dog Sammy, Pony Boy, and many, many happy lemons. Whoever thinks that "fun for the whole family" isn't possible hasn't explored Ralph's World. --Karin Snelson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ralph scores a hit--again!!!
Another incredible release from Ralph Covert--aka Ralph's World. Kids and parents alike will appreciate his fine turn of phrase ("Sammy the Dog," "Barnyard Blues," "Puddle of Mud"), his impeccable melodies and riffs ("Happy Lemons" and the fantastic "Betty Botter"), his ability to choose unusual cover tunes that are just right ("What's New Pussycat," "Pony Boy"), and his natural exuberance for his songs ("Dinosaur Rumble" and again, "Happy Lemons").

Something I've noticed over his three CDs is his ability to create a musical world for all ages to appreciate, and his voice carries a level of joy and warmth that wraps around the listener. My 21-month-old loves it, and his father and I do too. All three of his CDs are worth getting--just listen to the samples above. They will make it clear why Ralph's World continues to be the best music for kids and adults around.

Keep them coming, Ralph!
