5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Kids and Parents!!
As a music teacher and the mother of a toddler, I love this collection of alphabet songs!! Not only are the songs well written and entertaining, but my child is learning from them as well. My 21 month old has been listening to this CD for several months and still asks for it first thing in the morning and before bed time at night. This CD is a must for parents of toddlers!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I learned from these songs, too!
I am a college student whose parents played these exact same Sesame Street Alphabet Songs ( I mean they haven't even been re-recorded!) for me on a record player in the early 1980s. I can still remember most of the words to the songs, and believe me, as a child learning the alphabet, I sure enjoyed this version much more than the traditional "next time won't you sing with me..." alphabet song.

5-0 out of 5 stars masked education!
My three year old loves this. I love things that my kids think are fun when they happen to be educational. That's this CD. We have it on in the car all the time. I have a singing lesson CD "Voice Lessons To Go" by Vaccarino that I put on for my older daughter and myself- (you should hear the 3 year old try to keep up with that) She's actually learning her abc's and her Do Re Mi's. Should we try Spanish tapes next???

5-0 out of 5 stars I've been looking all over for these songs!!
My brother had these songs on 45's when he was maybe 3 years old (late 70s) and I can remember singing along with many of these songs. Definitely a great find!! I hope my kids will enjoy these as much as I did as a child.

4-0 out of 5 stars I Enjoy It More Than My Son
I purchased this CD for the daily car trips around town when my son is with me. Most every track has characters talking, giving intros to the letters and such. All very cute, very Seasame Street - and 100% a stroll down memory lane. I'm not sure if it's all in mono, but most of the songs are from way way back - probably 70's and 80's. I get a kick out of it because it's nostalgic; and my son enjoys it because he gets to sing along and learn the alphabet. ... Read more

Like Raffi, Hap Palmer is a musical ambassador to kids. Aiming for cultural diversity and/or sensitivity during the holidays on Holiday Magic, Palmer and, occasionally, a group of kids make their merry way through standards like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and remake "Jingle Bells" into "Jingle Song," while visiting the Jewish "Chanukah, Oh Chanukah," the Latino "Feliz Navidad," and even the Hawaiian-flavored "Merry Hula." Palmer and the adults do a wonderful "Caroling, Caroling," but it's the sing-alongs such as "The Angel Band" and others that will get families chiming in, too--and teach some important lessons at a time of year when not everyone is doing the tree and crèche thing. 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Great
As I have said several times, watching my nursery school class respond to Bobby Susser's songs tells me over and over that Bobby Susser was born to write songs for children. Here we get an additional treat by having Ben E. King sing these wonderful Susser songs that teach letter sounds, movement, rhythm, friendship, colors, numbers, and other basic skills. "I Have Songs In My Pocket", is a fantastic opening song that is Susser's life story by its title and sung by King and a children's chorus that gets the whole class singing and clapping. This sets the mood for all the songs here that are simply great.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Of The Basics
These great early childhood songs that teach basics like, letter sounds, friendship, numbers, colors, and music are sung by Ben E. King (Stand By Me), and that makes this album of wonderful songs, extra special. As I watch my young early childhood students sing and interact with these songs, I think that this collection is the best of the basics and want to thank Bobby Susser for bringing Ben E. King with him to the children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Young Children's Basic Skills With Rhythm
Bobby Susser and Ben E. King make a great team for this collection of songs that teach basic skills to the children in my day care center. Mr. Susser's songs and productions keep my little ones interested and involved as they learn about colors, letter sounds, friendship, numbers, music, rhythm, holidays, etc. Mr. King sings the songs with feeling and ease. The combination of these two men makes this basic skills collection a favorite for my kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars These Early Childhood Basic Skills Are The Greatest
This CD that I play regularly for my preschool class is a very unique one for young children to learn some basics. It is filled with all the things that make Bobby Susser's songs and activities so appealing to the kids. The music is great. Ben E. King, who is doing most of the singing on this Susser CD is at his finest. The combination of songs, music, vocalists, and subjects like letter sounds, numbers, colors, music, friendship, holidays, and a lovely lullabye all written and produced by Bobby Susser and sung by Ben E. King, absolutely demonstrates that these songs for learning basic skills, sound and are great for young children. Adults will enjoy these songs as much as the children do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect For Young Children At School And At Home
We use this album at home with our two preschool boys all the time. They have learned many of the basics by listening to these songs, and singing along with them. My wife uses this album in her day care center and it is the children's favorite basic skills album there too. Bobby Susser wrote great and meaningful songs for the kids and Ben E. King's singing is as smooth as can be. Every song grabs the children's and adult's attention. This is one children's album that can be played time and time again, and they'll still be tapping their feet, clapping their hands, singing along, and not feel bored. That goes for the adults too. ... Read more

Album Description

Doggone My Time was originally recorded in 1982.It was a special project for me - my first solo album. Both Marcy Marxer and Karrie Potter, who sing like angels on this album were members of Michigan's Bosom Buddies String Band. They were great friends, strong personal support and fine music partners on this project.Marcy is now my fill-time partner and we've done several albums together since then.I can't thank the other musicians enough. We had lots of fun and it still sounds like that to me!

In this new edition I've added three new songs.Sara McCutheon is a true story about John McCutcheon's grandmother, Louise.I wrote the song after swapping stories with John one night.Coming Home is also a true story inspired by the book Home Before Morning by Lydia Van Devanter (Warner Books) and I can't recommend it highly enough if you can find it.Women Vietnam Veterans deserve more recognition than they've gotten and this book describes her life in Vietnam and her return as a vetern. The Cuckoo is a longtime favorite traditional banjo song influenced by many versions, especially Clarence Ashley.

And thanks to Barry Poss at Sugar Hill Records who believes in keeping good acoustic music alive and well. ... Read more

The LP version of this album, Doggone My Time, has been one of my perennial favorites. 5-0 out of 5 stars A "must have" for all families with young children
My 3 and 5 year old boys request this cd all the time and really enjoy doing the activities suggested by the lyrics. We even bring it in the car so they can "wiggle" like worms in their car seat and do the "freeze" Most importantly, I love it too which as any Mom knows is essential when you have to listen to the same thing over...and over....and over.... The kids seem to like all the songs but my personal favorite is "When I'm down, I get up and dance" and I can't think of a better way to start the day than with a chorus of "So happy you're here" You won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars so happy hap's here!
Hap Palmer's calming voice and catchy lyrics are infectous. Children can easily pick up the fingerplay directions in these songs.
Every song has educational & fun potential. A teacher/parent could use this cd to encourage gross motor skills, listening/following directions, learning body parts, etc, or just plain having a blast!

The titles are of the songs are easily remembered by kids ( I'm a pretzel, Jack in the box...) and soon you'll be fielding requests for their favorites!

Whether you teach or have kids or even babysit this cd is great addition to your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Top Notch Music for young kids
I bought this tape to use with a pre-school class. Sometimes CD's do not meet my expectations. Not true with this one. It is excellent and I use it a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Way for Little Ones to Learn
I am a speech and language therapist working in 4 rural school districts in New Mexico. I have 28 years of experience. Children from the age of 3 to 7 love Hap Plamer's songs. They are slow paced and give children time to act out the meaning of the songs as well as learn the words. Mr. Palmer has a calming voice that children like to listen to. I have found it helpful for increasing listening, memory, turn-taking and vocabulary skills. Young children learn best by movement rather than paper work at their seats. They like to teach others the songs, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Early Childhood Resource
I use this CD in my special needs kindergarten. The kids love it!! I am rather musically challenged, but this CD allows me to bring music and movement into my classroom. It is easy to follow and includes the words to the songs. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Love this with one 'dumb' reservation
My 2-year-old daughter absolutely loves this CD. Everytime we get in the car, she says, "Bert & Ernie" and then sings along with the lyrics. I admit, I like it too.

The reason I'm writing this review, though, is to let parents know that it has one part where the characters call Bert's game "Dumb." I'm sure my child will learn this word eventually, but I'd rather she didn't learn it from Bert & Ernie. I'm not sure what Sesame street people were thinking when writing this script. It's disappointing since the rest of the CD is so great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Didn't know how much I loved them until I got this album...
Ernie and Bert have some of the best music on Sesame Street, and this album is the place to find it. It not only includes the standards "Rubber Duckie" and "Doin the Pidgeon," but there are some terrific songs that were new to me: an incredible lullaby incorporating deep breathing; "Up Goes the Castle" and a fun song about asking for help; "Lonesome Joan." This CD should have a place in any Sesame Street fan's collection, be they 2 feet or 7 feet tall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for child AND parent!
My son has 4 Sesame Street albums; I'm a little sick of most of them by now, with the notable exception of Bert & Ernie's Greatest Hits. At 30 now, I grew up with many of these songs ("Rubber Duckie," "Imagination," and "Doin' the Pigeon," anyone?) and remember them with fondness. Today, I have a new appreciation for the clever lyrics and catchy tunes. I also love the newer songs, along with Bert's hysterical commentary on the track "Dance Myself to Sleep." ("Where did the sheep get tap shoes?") As counterpoint to the funny, zippy songs, there are some sweet and lovely slower songs such as "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon" and "Up Goes the Castle." All in all, it's an album I can listen to repeatedly. My 22-month-old son can sing along with most of the tunes, and often asks to "listen Ewnie." With an album like this, I'm happy to listen Ewnie, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love It!
I love it! I grew up listening to Ernie and Bert; and I must say that the opener, "Rubber Duckie" by Ernie is certainly a blast from the past! I also like "Clink Clank" and "The National Association of 'W' Lovers" by Bert, his opening lines to "Pat Pat Patty Pat", and "But I Like You" by Ernie and Bert -- but most of all, I find "Imagination" by Ernie and friends to be an especially pretty song. Grown-up Sesame Street fans, get this Bert and Ernie CD -- I'm sure you'll love it, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars My kids favorite, without a doubt!
My 2 year old AND my 6 year old both love these funny and fun songs. We've been playing this at bedtime for the last month and although there are some upbeat tunes, they segue into some quiet "nighty night" songs that usually get the job done. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Children Deserve Better Than This
A good selection of classics that children will recognize - singing along is encouraged by the children's chorus. Helpful liner notes discussing the history of nursery rhymes and lyric sheet included.

Although the singing is quite good, the accompanying music is awful - a single keyboard attempts to stand in for all the instruments and effectively cheapens the entire production, making it sound amateurish and flat - simple piano or acoustic guitar would've been a huge improvement. Children deserve better than this (as do parents who will inevitably have to listen to this too). ... Read more

Cute cd teaching children numbers. My son loves it. The only downfalls is it's too short!! I like this cd better than the ABC one....

Our favorite song is Cookie Monster's 10 Cookies. My 8 month old seems to enjoy this CD. We just wish it was longer!

5-0 out of 5 stars Some great music for kids! (& adults too)
This album is one I've been listening to ever since I was about 6 years old (I had it on vinyl back then), and I must confess that I still listen to it today even as an adult. The hightlights include Bert & Ernie singing a great duet on "One & One Makes Two", Bird Bird singing "Just One Me", and The Count singing "8 Beautiful Notes" which is a really catchy tune! You also hear Sesame Street construction man "Biff" (of Biff & Sully fame) singing "Five Fingers". One of Biff's rare musical performances. And..... Little Jerry & the Montones singing "FOUR!". This group sounds just like one of those old time Doo Wop Groups and they always sing great Rock'n' Roll Sesame Street Songs! You gotta get this CD, for your kids, or for yourself. Good ol' Steve, his blue dog Blue, and all their friends want to help you get your child cozy with the idea of going "night-night" with this follow-up to Blue's Big Treasure. Goodnight Blue tells stories, sings songs, and plays Blue's Clues in a well-paced 10-track set of material geared toward preschoolers. Included are pals Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, and Baby Paprika, all of whom work through the ritualized bedtime process in a way that will help young children sort out the difference between day and night. Along the way, the cast also helps guide kids to the magic of their dreams by trying to figure out just what Blue wants to dream about. If your little ones are true Blue's Clues nuts, this tidy production might be the bedtime bromide you've been looking for when the blanky, favorite books, and an old lullaby fail you. --Martin Keller ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One serious problem with Blue's Clues music!
The music and words are so catchy and infectious, you'll hear them in your head all the time! It can be EMBARASSING to suddenly belt out something like "It's our bedtime business; it's our sleepy time checklist" in public! Seriously, we have just discovered Blue's Clues, and my 5 year-old son just loves this and the Treasure Hunt CDs. We're constantly singing little snatches of the songs to one another. So if you're in Wal-mart, and you hear a mother and son singing Paprika's Lullabye, you'll know it's us!

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny and sweet, makes little ones sleep.
I like this CD, but more importantly my son loves it. He'll answer the questions, and laugh when it's funny.
I just love "Goodnight Bird", because it's a funny little story that reminds of my son fighting sleep every night.
The music is really good. Excellent singers, and very good musicians makes the jazzy CD easy to fall asleep to.

5-0 out of 5 stars We love Paprika's Lullabye
My 3 1/2 year old son adores this CD. We listen to it in the car almost daily, and now at night, he has begun to request that I sing him "Paprika's Lullabye." Since I have heard it so many times, I am happy to oblige. It's a sweet lullabye full of delicious images for little ones, even including a moment worthy of Edith Piaf in there!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Cd Has the right stuff for Bedtime.
First of all, "Bedtime Business" is a cool song to jam to before going to bed. My favorite track is "Paprika's Lullaby" because Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper and Paprika are 3 of my favorite characters from the Show! "Day Turns Into Night" is a Jazzy number sung by an owl. New kids play Tickety and Slippery, whom I also Love. The end of the cd will bore little ones to sleep, IT HAS TO! The last song, "My Bed" willremind you of the "Twin Peaks" theme. The Hidden track is Blue's Dream. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My 3 year old and his friends sing and dance like crazy!
I bought this for my son, and he immediately found a few songs that he asked me to play over and over. I skip over the Cookie Monster Disco song (dated) and other songs that seem to be on EVERY Sesame Street CD.
But all in all, this is an excellent one. There were a lot of songs I hadn't heard done by the SS characters, and everyone in my family has a different favorite!
I loaned it to my daycare provider, and the kids there range in age from 1 to 6 and they were ALL singing and dancing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great cd for the kids!
My daughter, the Sesame Street fanatic at 21 months old, got this cd for Christmas last month. Since then, it hasn't left the cd player. She runs to it every chance she gets and says "song" while pointing at it. The songs on this cd are really cute: the characters sing some songs you know (like "Hot, hot hot!") and a lot of other songs that I recognized from watching the show. I'd have to say my daughter's favorites are tracks 2 and 10, one of which is "Happy tappin' with Elmo" her favorite character. If you have kids, you really need this cd...it will keep them hopping and dancing for a long time and as a bonus, you won't mind listening to it either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cookie Monster Rules!!
I purchased this album for my young son and he loved it, nearly as much as my husbund! If we are in the car the first thing both of them want to listen to is Cookie Monster's "Me lost Me Cookie At The Disco", which I have to agree, is a fantastic song. It is this interaction that makes the whole album a must.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun!Fun!Fun!
I bought this album because I was looking for something upbeat and different for my son. I had bad luck it the past with children's CD's boring both him and me. The first time I played it my 11 month old started to laugh and giggle. Next thing I know I caught my husband trying to disco to I lost my cookie at the disco. I recommend this CD to all my friends with young kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Cute
This music is so cute. It is upbeat and not only don't I mind listening to it, I like it. The songs are catchy with good music, unlike a lot of kids CDs. The quality of the production is great. My daughter loved it from the first time we played it. Hot! Hot! Dance Songs is a winner. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Buy!
What a fabulous CD. This was the first CD we bought for our daughter. 10 months later and all of us still enjoy listening to it. (For new parents, it's a great way to relearn some standard kid's songs.)

5-0 out of 5 stars The one and only
My 3 year old requests to listen to this CD over and over again! It is fantastic since I know the words to all the songs too. I love singing and dancing around the house with my son to this CD. It is much better than laying around the house and watching another movie. What was even better was listening to this CD on our last road trip. I never heard a peep out of him except his singing! It is a MUST HAVE!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for All Ages!!!
My 3 month old loves to listen to all types of music. I am a working mother, so when I pick him up at daycare, I have chores that need to be done when I get home. I put this CD in, and it keeps my son happy and occupied while he listens to Elmo and his friends. I play this CD over and over again! It is fantastic since most of the songs are ones I grew up with, and I know the words, so he can hear my voice singing along. I love dancing and singing with my son, and I even catch my husband singing along. It is A MUST HAVE for ALL Ages!!

5-0 out of 5 stars We love this one!
This is a great rendition of kids songs. My 2 1/2 year old wants to listen to it over and over. He even suggested we sing and play Ring Around the Rosie at gym class. And when Elmo yells that he needs a life preserver or the Count won't stop counting, I can't stop laughing. And I'm a grown up, honest.

5-0 out of 5 stars yeah!
Who can compete with this solid classic? Dark Side of the Moon? OK Computer? Abbey Road? Electric Ladyland? Bridge Over Troubled Water? Goodbye Yellow Brick Road? None of the previous I have to say. I have experienced several of these classics but none have matched up to the experience you get from these unforgettable tunes. I'm 23 and this is the only album I have listened to straight through every single day since I bought it. It has so much variety. The fun, despite being stereotypical to my German heritage, John Jingleheimer Schmit is always enjoyable. Ring Around the Rosy is a short, yet classic number that leaves you screaming for more. It includes darker numbers, too such as the cynical Grouch Medley, and In the Evening by the Moonlight Hoots the Owl. And This Little Piggy Went to the Market is a great way to finnish off the album. It has more energy and textures than any song I've heard since Bohemian Raphsody. The amazing part is how accessable it is. Kids like it just as much as adults and thats really intresting because it has taken me years to fully appreciate what has been done here. Basically, if you don't own it and you call yourself a music fan, you better hold your tongue. Go out! Buy it today! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to dance rhythms
I guarantee your feet won't be still! For more than forty years Ella Jenkins has brought traditional music of all kinds to children and adults. This is a reissue of the historic 1977 recording celebrating all forms of dance - a tribute to Ella's own childhood fascination with music, rhythm and movement. It features 21 tracks of spirituals, chants, blues, and folk songs, plus 9 interview segments with members of Chicago's dance community, including a choreographer and Afro-Cuban dance specialist, a dance therapist and a dance student. ...
