Album Description The Movers new disc, "Calling All Movers," features the bands trademark blend of kid-friendly themes and sophisticated rock and hip-hop music. "Please and Thank You" is a Caribbean-touched homage to every parents three favorite words. The call-and-response jam "Whats in the Fridge" is evidence of the Movers continued obsession with snack food. And "First Day of School" is a sentimental look at a milestone from a childs point of view. These and 12 other new Movers tunes will be favorites in family CD players for years to come. Reviews (3)

Amazon.com Reviews (5)
One song mentions things like an aunt who "spanked his bottom" when a boy misbehaved, but the song does not say that is what should have been done--a far cry from advocating violence toward children. Regarding the reference to "stupid," there is a lyric where Chapin says he swung his hammer and hit his thumb and says, "Uh oh, acci-dumb," and there is nothing that encourages anyone to call anyone stupid or dumb. If you've seen Tom Chapin in concert (as we have), there is no mistaking that this gentle man cares deeply about kids and others, and his lyrics and songs are positive, positively silly, fun, or thoughtful, and they are never mean or hurtful. Some songs on the album are geared more toward the younger kids (preschoolers or early school years), but the songs are simple without being simplistic, and Chapin's wordplay is clever and fun. I would gladly listen to the original lyrics and melodies of Chapin's work 1000 times over rather than listen to a collection of songs by a purple dinosaur twice--and so would my kids, who were 5 and 2 and 1/2 when began listening to Tom Chapin a few years ago. Personally, we prefer the birthday song on this CD over the traditional "Happy Birthday," and we've taken to singing it on our birthdays since it is definitely a song of love. The song "Bedtime Round" is a treat for any parent who has put up with the bedtime pleas for one more story, one more hug or kiss, and one more drink of water when it's long after the time for kids to be asleep, as it captures the child's persistence and the parent's patience in handling the requests. Finally, the grownups here dearly love "Together Tomorrow," a heart-tugging song if you've ever had to part with people you love and care about. We've bought other Chapin CDs and given several as gifts, but this one is clearly our family favorite (though we've not heard them all yet!).
Some of Chapin's other CDs focus on issues relating to school and social issues that go on in school. This is a collection of some pre-published and new material that is all geared toward the audience of kids not yet in school. I suggest this for kids starting in the toddler years. Of course even kids in school will like this music but what makes it unique is that it is all suitable stuff for toddlers and up. We liked this CD so much we have since purchased other Tom Chapin recordings. What I have found is that his CDs repeat some tunes, each CD is not a completely new work. I guess this is titled for "very little ones" because there are no songs about going to school as there are on other CDs. This CD has 16 songs which is considerably longer than some of his other works so this is a bargain. In "uh oh, accident" the child has accidents in which he labels them in various rhyming ways, i.e. hit thumb with hammer, calls himself "accidumb" that is the worst thing in that song, other descriptions are "it went squish..uh oh accidish". In "I would if I could" which is a about a toddler or child pushing his limits with swiping, painting the wall, jumping on bed, etc. In this story there is never a mention of spanking or hitting. There are joking references of the child singing and labeling his behavior, such as saying his "parents flip when he strips in the park..which I've done"; he mentions they scowl and even yell when he tells his mothers age. ... Also in case you are wondering "You'll be sorry" is about a dog not a child and it is about silly things like if the dog chases the skunk he'll be sorry. Jumpalong Jake does mention very quickly spanking and yelling. This song features a four lovey-lovey feel-good calming songs such as "Happy Birthday", "Blanketville", "Bedtime Round" and "Together Tomorrow". The progression of songs starts off energetic with happy sing-along style and it wraps up with lullaby-type calm and quieter music. I advise listening to the sound snippets here on Amazon.com to see if this music is a style you are interested in. Addendum: I saw Tom Chapin live with our family and we had a great time. The sound quality was excellent, just like on a CD. He and his bandmates interacted with the audience and illicited audience participation so it was much more than just listening to the songs exactly as he plays them on these recordings. Go see him live!
If you are looking for positive, energetic, kind and gentle music for your child I'd suggest Raffi or The Wiggles instead of this deceptive CD.

Their concerts are great too. Go to one if you get a chance. The Movers really get the kids moving to the beat and moving on to doing things the better way...becoming independent, healthy, conscious of others people. My child is always singing their songs...and so are my husband and I. I can't wait until the next CD...Can you?
My child has had this CD for six weeks now and loves every song as do I. My child can relate to the topics examined on this CD: sibling rivalry, dental hygiene, and sleeping through the night. They are age and developmentally appropriate for KIDS. The Imagination Movers are a breath of fresh air for children's music. ... Read more | |

This newest album; the songs grow on us every day! The kid's favorites are Yo-Yo's Ma; Making Good Noise, and Putting On A Show. Mom's favorites are always the sweet, meloncholy tunes that celebrate the fleeting magic of childhood: On this album, my two favorites are "Sing Me The Story of Your Day," and "I Need A Lullabye." If you're new to Tom Chapin's music ... I'd highly recommend "Family Tree" as a first album to start with (it's our hands-down favorite of all the TC albums,) -- and then enjoy all the other albums after that... you can't go wrong with any of them :-)
TRACKS "Putting On A Show" is a story-song, which once again follows the adventures of Shirley, Sue, and Bruno, this time in a stage production of "Annie". After this follows "I Love To Play The Kazoo", a mainly orchestral track. "You're Not The Boss Of My Brain" is basically a song about... well, you can probably figure it out from the title. This is followed up by "Cookin' In The Kitchen", a track dedicated to cooking and the great treats that come out of that excellent room known as the kitchen. In "The All-Purpose Carol", Tom salutes the different traditions observed during the holiday season. "The Hampton String Quartet" is the aforementioned group playing an orchestral arrangement of Tom Chapin's classic "This Pretty Planet". "Yo Yo's Ma" is a funny song about the famous cellist and how he (supposedly) became a star. "My B-A-N-J-O" is a great tribute to the banjo and its sound. In "A Day At Camp Decibel", Tom puts lyrics to ten famous bugle calls, describing a hectic day at a summer camp. "I Need A Lullaby" continues the soft, quiet feel. It's a lullaby to anybody who needs it. Just in case the kids were getting bored, Tom finishes off the album with "This Song Is My Homework", a humorous, rock-n-roll track about procrastination and the problems that it entails. In general, I'd say the disc is better for winding down the kids then absolute bedtime music. But my 9 week old seems to love it anyway. She even falls asleep to the very loud and upbeat Sesame Street Platinum CD. I guess it's just feel good music regardless of the tempo.
That's not to say this CD is a downer, of course! Not by any means at all! There are mildly upbeat little tunes like "Dance Myself to Sleep" and "If Moon Was Cookie" that are equally as adorable and memorable as my personal tearjerker favorite: I Don't Want to Live on the Moon. It really is amazing what an incredible gift Jim Henson had. God bless his soul for all of the gentle beauty and love his work was full of. There is something so honest and pure about his Sesame Street songs that you really won't find anywhere else. I highly recommend this beautiful collection of lullabies and hope that I'm correct in assuming this will be a treasured collection of songs to sing babies to sleep to for many generations to come!

I'm just a bill, "Schoolhouse Rock! America Rock" collects the soundtracks from the mini-cartoons ABC aired on the television in the mid-1970s and taught a generation of children about government and history (as well as grammar, science, and math in other rock counterparts). The ten America rocks are done in pretty much chronological order, with "No More Kings," "Fireworks" and "The Shot Heard 'Round the World" covering the founding of America, the Declaration of Independence, and the start of the American Revolution. I would be willing to bet that most of the kids in this country who can recite the Preamble to the Constitution learned it from "The Preamble" (or the "Star Trek" episode "The Omega Glory"). "Elbow Room" covers America going West while "The Great American Melting Pot" celebrates American diversity. Great American inventors get their due in "Mother Necessity" and "Sufferin' till Suffrage" covers women getting the right to vote. But the most popular one here has got to be "I'm Just a Bill," which explains how a bill comes a law in terms so simple that even a first term Congressman could understand it. "Three-Ring Government" explains the separation of powers between the three branches. Granted, American History might not lend itself to 3-minute lessons as well as basic principles of grammar or mathematics, but these are still so much fun, especially if you have the videos to show students instead of just playing them these tracks on the CD. Too bad there were not more of these (how would Schoolhouse Rock! have explained the Civil War or the Great Depression?), because they are just a lot of fun and then do a great job of driving a few essential points home in each lesson. "America Rock" is just the hook. It is up to history teachers and parents to provide the line. Even for more advanced students teachers can get some mileage out of these by showing them to students and either getting them to critique these (what inventors should be added?) or to be creative and write the script for their own (e.g., "I am here to provide an explanation of the Emancipation proclamation!").
