Disney's new carol collection is sure to set sugarplums dancing in future hipsters' heads. All the usual suspects turn up on this jingle-bell best: Hilary Duff's "Santa Claus Lane," familiar to fans from her own Christmas release, gets a springy North Pole remix,Raven-Symone vamps it up Supremes-style on "My Christmas Wish," and Skye Sweetnam and Ashlee Simpson scribble their names on the naughty list courtesy of their contributions--"Why Doesn't Santa Like Me?" and "Christmas Past, Present and Future" respectively. Capping this squeal-and-giggle sleigh ride is a Christmas version of the Disney chestnut "Circle of Life," but if that track prompts peace-on-earth placidity don't expect it to last: Jingle Jams delivers plenty of joy, but stops far short of a silent night. --Tammy La Gorce ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD, It makes me remember the Magic of my last vacation
I have really enjoyed this CD. I love hearing my favorite songs from the park over and over. It's the one CD that my kids even enjoy listening to. (Even my 13 year old!) My 10 year old's favorite is the Ballad of Davey Crockett and Haunted Mansion Theme Song. He has them both memorized. We even listened to it this winter when it was snowing outside, to remind us of our summer vacation to WDW, and to give us something to look forward to next summer. It is a must for any Disney Fan!

2-0 out of 5 stars False advertising in the title
I bought this C.D because I wanted "Music from the Park" not remakes of the true music that is in Walt Disney World. I was very disapointed when I started listening to the songs. A couple of years later I found the true music from the park called "Where magic lives, The official album from Walt Disney World". I bought it at Downtown Disney in Orlando but I'm not sure if it's available other places outside the park. The closest album available for sale here on amazon.com is "Walt Disney World Resort in Florida". It has almost all of the songs my CD has plus a few more. If you love the true music from the park I'd recommend one of these other CD's.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you're a Disney fan, run away
This CD takes the music we all know and love from the parks and skrews them up with the lounge-style of the artists singing them. If you want to buy this CD because you love the music from the park, this is not the one for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars You need to broaden your mind
I love Disney music, but you know what, I do not always want to listen to Disney music. This is a great collection of songs that are interpretations of disney songs done in the artists style. TRULY GREAT BACKGROUND MUSIC FOR LIFE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Disney Fun and Memories
The first time I heard this CD, I thought, "Goodness, what have they done to that familiar Disney music?" I was shocked!

Then I listened again, and again, and again. I have the CD in my car and I play it over and over. Tim Curry's version of "Davy Crockett," always makes me laugh. The SpectroMagic parade theme makes me cry remembering the beauty of the parade. I can sing "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" and "It's a Small World."

The first time you hear this CD, you may not really like it. If you play it for the third time, you will love it. ... Read more

Scream Factory Favorites sends a gusty second wind blowing around the Monsters, Inc. gang so that they seem never to have clomped off the screen. Credit Riders in the Sky, a cowboy-musician collective of four spiffy if over-the-hill-looking fellows, for twanging up these 13 tracks, instead of letting them go sappy or scary or in any way serious. Randy Newman's movie-derived buddy song, "If I Didn't Have You," the opener, lights a low flame beneath happy-to-be-stuck-with-you sensibilities before a run of crackup wordplay kicks in: "Doo-Wah Diddy Diddy (Mike's Song)" gets a Cyclops-specific reworking ("She looked good, she looked fine / I could not believe my eye"); "I Only Have Eye for You" oozes mush to a "scream come true" whose "kisses taste like glue"; and "Monster ABCs" fondly recalls a school-kid chorus--"A is for Aah!, E is for Eek!," etc. "Lullaby for Boo" breaks from the bogeymen, but, besides a couple of swingin' instrumentals, the rest is pure Disney-Pixar monster mash. It won't deliver you to specific movie scenes the way soundtracks sometimes do, or, spooks aside, send chills up your spine, but it does stand to lift your spirits. It's a forget-your-troubles frolic fit for all ages, and it won't fail to tickle the funny bone of anybody who walked out of the movie feeling less foolish about sleeping with the closet door clamped shut, flashlight in hand. --Tammy La Gorce ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
This wonderful album contains thirteen songs by Riders In The Sky, the same great band you heard on the Toy Story II tape & DVD. With the exception of the first song, all of these songs are new, and are based on the Pixar hit movie, Monsters, Inc. My kids (10 and 12) both love this CD, especially Monster ABCs. For some reason, I had assumed that they would consider this album too babyish for them, but such is not the case. They love this album, and so do I! We highly recommend this album to you and your family.

Oh, by the way, the liner notes contain the words to all of the songs, plus a few nice pictures from Monsters, Inc. My kids love this sort of "extra."

4-0 out of 5 stars The Further Tales of Sulley and Company.
SCREAM FACTORY FAVORITES is a compilation of songs sung by Riders in the Sky about the characters from MONSTERS, INC. Most of the songs dive a little further into the characters from the movie, while a few just play on some of the characters' familiar characteristics. Most of the songs have a 50s do-wop feel, and not much country twang. There are 13 songs on the cd and the running time is about thirty-five minutes. I've played some of the songs on the web-radio show I host and will probably continue to do so in the future. My favorite songs on the album include:

"I Only Have Eye For You"

"Monsters, Inc. March"

"Paperwork" (Roz's Song)

"The Perfect Roar" (Sulley's Song)

This is a cd that most kids will enjoy and makes a nice gift for any fan of MONSTERS, INC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Screaming For More Scream Factory Favorites!
My three children love this CD. Their mother loves this CD. My children scream when this CD is not playing. Maybe you buy this. Hmmmmmm.

Wonderfully and wittingly written to accompany the great Monsters, Inc. movie, this song collection is a must have! If the little ones don't dance and sing to this one, something's wrong!

4-0 out of 5 stars Monster Scream-A-Long
Following the formula of their previous CD for PIXAR (Woody's Roundup), the Riders in the Sky have created music that extends the story and characters of Monsters, Inc. beyond the film. Staying true to the film though, the music mostly stays away from country and tries for a more 50's doo-wop feeling. Their harmonies work just as good in this style as country and it's good to hear them trying new things. But don't think this is a radical departure because it isn't. We're talking shading here.

If you enjoyed the film (and who didn't) then you're sure to be won over by this CD. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the catchy tunes and clever lyrics ("I love to take you dancing and sweep you off your tentacles") which are included in the booklet so you can learn them and sing along. My only complaints are the annoying song LULLABY FOR BOO (the only song not sung by Riders) and the too short running time of 33 minutes.

4-0 out of 5 stars sounds like they know what they are doing!
The songs are wonderful and the Riders in the Sky are on top of their game! They are fun to listen to and you will not stop your toes from "a tappin"! Enjoy this great CD. You just might be calling yourself a closet cowboy! Come out of the closet and listen to this wonderful CD! ... Read more

If anyone could corner the millennium, Disney could. In presenting the theme music to its millennium celebration at Epcot Center in Florida, the megacorporation attempts a grand, musical year-2000 salute. Naturally, World Millennium Celebration weaves plenty of fiery brass, warm sting passages, stirring voices, and a mix of space romance and Earth adventure into the fabric of this fantasy work. Executive Music Producer Steve Skorija's task seems to be providing a backdrop for live performance, a scrim to unfurl behind the spectacle. And in doing so, the themes "Reflections of Earth," "We Go On," "Tapestry of Nations," "Promise," and "Celebrate the Future Hand in Hand" (complete as a gospel version as well) have an "Up with People" undercurrent that is ambiguous even as it is mildly diverting. On those merits, Millennium Celebration succeeds as a score. But for sheer entertainment value, the CD needs to give us more of the legendary mouse's magic and less of its roar. --Martin Keller ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Disney Does it Again
The Millenium CD contains some beautiful music, but I must admit, I was slightly disappointed in the content. "We Go On" and "Celebrate the Future..." sound very similar to the generic "female singing the melody" Disney songs such as "Remember the Magic," etc. The instrumental Reflections of Earth and Tapestry of Nations, though, are beautiful. I get chills down my spine when I hear the music and think of myself standing in Epcot in front of Spaceship Earth. And I haven't seen the Millenium celebration yet. If you have seen the celebration, this CD will definitely stir your emotions and re-create your trip to the World.

5-0 out of 5 stars AN AUDIO MEMORY OF OUR DISNEY WORLD TRIP
As we were leaving Disney World recently, I almost didn't buy this CD. I'm so SO glad I did. This CD gives me shivvers every time I play it. I'm hoping it will provide our young kids with an audio memory of their wonderful trip to Disney World. The "Tapestry of Nations" was a wonderful, wonderful parade and the music playing all around EPCOT during the parade was magical. I find myself playing "We Go On" over and over again. You won't be disappointed if you get this CD, especially if you've visited Disney World during their Millennium Celebration.

5-0 out of 5 stars if you were there. . .
if you were there, you'd understand. . .words cannot express the power of the music in this cd. simply close your eyes, and the music will take you back... to the very spot were you were standing during the parades, whether on the grass or the curbside ... whether you had screaming kids around you or had your love one in hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Music.
In response to Martin Keller (Amazon reviewer), I disagree totally with his conclusions. To refer to these works (especially "Reflections of Earth"), as "ambiguous and mildly diverting" is absurd. This is serious music here. Although this particular piece accompanied an extravagant fireworks show, I believe the fireworks was in the music itself. It stands on its own. "We Go On" and "Tapestry of Nations" are also excellent. This collection lifts your spirits, makes you smile, and sometimes make you shake your head and just say "Wow".

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
The opening symphony "Reflections of Earth" still brings chills to my spine after 4 years - perhaps the best work of this type I have ever heard - uplifting, glorious in its complexity, and once you think it is almost over, it hits you again with its power. Best listened to with the stereo turned up to 200 watts per channel, and moving the walls! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 60 Years of Musical Magic
Lovers of Disney music will delight in this third volume of highlights, featuring some memorable musical moments!

Included in this selection are "Colors of the Wind" and "Mine Mine Mine" from POCAHONTAS, "Little April Shower" from BAMBI, "Family" and "My Name is James" from JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, "Oo-De-Lally" from ROBIN HOOD and "Bella Notte" from LADY AND THE TRAMP.

Selections from Disney's live-action musicals include "Are We Dancing?" from THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE (performed by Lesley Ann Warren and John Davidson), "Stay Awake" from MARY POPPINS (performed by Julie Andrews) and "Portobello Road" from BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS.

You'll also find novelty numbers like "I'm Professor Ludwig von Drake" from THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY and "Heffalumps and Woozles" from WINNIE THE POOH AND THE BLUSTERY DAY. There's also the rousing "Ballad of Davy Crockett" from the immortal Disney television series.

For Disney fans, there's a lot to recommend in buying this superb disc!

5-0 out of 5 stars More Classic Music from Disney
This third CD of Disney music is a good mixture of the old with the new. Track 1: "Colors of the Wind" from POCAHONTAS is one of the best songs composed to date for a motion picture. Track 18: "Bella Notte" from LADY AND THE TRAMP brings back many memories as does Track 21: "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" from television show and movies. Going back even further is Track 24: "Little April Shower" from BAMBI, which is an interesting composition representing nature's beauty, fury and return to tranquility. Track 6: "Les Poissons" is a great number from THE LITTLE MERMAID that is well composed musically but also is used to advance the story of the film. This is yet another great CD in this series.

4-0 out of 5 stars NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
Burton movies are great. Burton movies with Elfman's music... well, they're out of this world. Nightmare before Christmas is my favorite movie of all times, and someone who hasn't seen it, doesn't have to make those comments. It's a movie full of great feelings; plus the music is great. Someone who hasn't seen the movie wouldn't understand "Jack's Lament"... I invite Caroline to see it and THEN critize it. BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIMES.

4-0 out of 5 stars GRREAT!
These Disney CD's are so great. People of all ages can enjoy them. My favorite is volume 2. My 3 year old LOVES it but so does my 22 year old friend!

4-0 out of 5 stars Nightmare Before Christmas Rocks!
Anyone who would suggest that Jack's Lament and Nightmare Before Christmas was not good, without even seeing the movie should not be allowed to make reviews on websites. It's a great movie and Danny Elfman is a brilliant composer. Hey let's hear it for the lady who can't handle anything more complex than, "M.I.C.K.E..." you know what I mean...I get a little upset thats all... ... Read more

Lilo & Stitch may not send waves of nostalgia shooting through parents or pack Pooh's merchandising punch, but this Disney outing won't fizzle from the screen, either. The proof's in the read-along, which, like the movie, reaches out and grabs anybody who reserves a soft spot for Elvis Presley, space monsters more wacky than Alf and as adorable as E.T., surfer dudes, and sweet, struggling orphans--that is, everybody. Shrink-wrapped here is a tsunami of options for interactive fun; how your 5- to 10-year-old chooses to shoot the curves is up to her. In a PC or Mac the story scrolls by with the read-along version of subtitles, and in the stereo it shifts into a do-it-yourself bedtime story. With a Walkman, the cassette carries the capacity to wipe out car-trip crabbiness. But that owes more to the story than to the simple tedium-chasing properties of flipping pages and following along. Stitch, an illegal creation banished to an asteroid, jumps spaceship and arrives on the shores of Hawaii, where he sets about screwing up everything for a little girl, Lilo, bent on displaying her best behavior to a social worker convinced her sister's not a suitable guardian. To tame the rascally Martian, Lilo assigns him a role model--the King. From there, factor in the ever-effective Disney formula: wrong-moment bouts of misbehavior, nick-of-time getaways from the bad guys, and a hunk-a hunk-a sadness when it looks like all's lost (which, of course, it isn't). Ving Rhames and Tia Carrere hoist the character voices to big-star Hollywood heights, and once Stitch-as-Elvis leaves the building, a sense of together-we'll-triumph sweetness sticks around, stacking the odds that kids will return for lots of aloha revisits. --Tammy La Gorce ... I had never seen a product quite like this.My daughter usually listens to the CD and reads along, but since there is a tape too she can have one in the car or cassette player, and another on the stereo or computer. The story is a nice synopsis of the movie, not too choppy. She listens to it about everyday, sometimes twice. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wholesome Pop Music
I have a six-year-old daughter who's been raised on jazz and classical music (and loves both), but second grade has introduced her to pop music, too. Not being a big fan of the stuff you hear on the radio, I thought this might be worth a try, and my daughter and I both love it. She wakes up to it in the mornings, and it puts us both in a happy, energetic mood. Some of the songs are upbeat remakes of Cinderella, Ariel, and Belle's songs from their respective movies, and there's even two remakes of "classic" pop songs---Walking on Sunshine and We've Got the Beat. I like it because the music is fun, but it also has very positive lyrics that are good for a girl's self-esteem. Somewhat surprisingly, I highly recommend this CD for girls from six to 14 or 15. ... This is a love letter to that special pop song genre cultivated in Disney films (and in some cases, musicals). Instead of the chestnuts from Disney's classic canon, Michael Crawford has chosen a program of contemporary Disney creations (except for the vintage "Baby Mine" from Dumbo), but these are destined to become evergreens in their own right. For starters, the magical combination of melody, atmosphere, and gentle lyrics showcases the Disney folks' uncanny ability to patch together sensational creative teams, drawing on such diverse artists as Alan Menken, Elton John,Randy Newman, and Phil Collins. And Crawford's mellow tenor, with its hint of Peter Pan innocence, is well suited to these expressions of joy and love, which include a memorable duet on "If I Never Knew You" (from Pocahontas) with Sherie René Scott. The production is lush and polished, but the length, a mere 40 minutes, is disappointingly skimpy. --Sarah Chin ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Crawford Creates Dismal Disney
What ever happened to the days when the magical world of Disney would put a smile on your face and warm your heart with the hope of wonderment? If Michael Crawford's Disney Album is a reflection of the times, the days of youthful Disney are gone. Taking the majority of songs from more modern Disney features, Crawford sings such despairing hits as "I will go sailing no more" from Toy Story and "I know the truth" from Aida. His once robust voice now lulls these not-very-cheerful ditties and instead of putting a magical smile on your face, you're only left with a saddened heart. Sorry Walt.

5-0 out of 5 stars All the Voices of the Mountain
One of the lines from "Colors of the Wind"("Pocahontas") is "Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?" Well, I can't, yet, but Michael Crawford sure as hell can.

Even singing Disney songs, Michael Crawford is always a pleasure to listen to. And the Disney songs aren't too bad either. It is a great selection of the best Disney songs. If I had to complain about something, it is the rather abrubt change in "The Lion King Medley" between "Circle of Life" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight." It's not that bad, but it is quite quick. Other then that, it is all absolutly perfect.

If I have to choose a favorite, its "Baby Mine" from "Dumbo." From what I am told, as it has been a long time, "Baby Mine" was one of my first favorite songs. Now I remember why. And it is being sung by the God of music, so that adds to the pleasure of hearing the 60-year-old Disney classic for the first time in 7-10 years.

I wasn't expecting much from "I Know the Truth," but I was impressed by it. The music and lyrics, that is, because Crawford's voice I always knew was going to be great. A lot of the songs I had either never heard, like "You're Heart Will Lead You Home," or not heard in a long time, like the songs from the "Toy Story" movies. They were all wonderful to hear again and for the first time. I remember hearing "Reflection" sung by another great singer, Lea Salonga, who sang it originally for "Mulan." It is just as good when sung by a man, but then how could Crawford not be good? Salonga starred in "Mulan" alongside Donny Osmond, who also does "I Know the Truth" on his new CD. Osmond's is good, but it doesn't measure up to Crawford's.

"You'll Be in My Heart" is just one of the great songs from the score of "Tarzan," which is one of my favorite Disney movies. Phil Collins wrote it, and he sings it on the "Tarzan" soundtrack and in the movie, but, again, not as well as Crawford. I only saw "Toy Story 2" once, but I remember "When She Loved Me" being a very emotional song. It is very emotional on this CD, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!! Mike should have sang in all the Disney flicks!!
Just finished watching Pocahontas and I knew Mike sang a song from Pocohauntus but didnt know which one-turned out it was the song in the end credits "If I Never Knew You".. wow the
duet on the end credits of the flick as opposed to Mike singing it--they dont hold a candle to Mike--I mean that--the performers
arent as good as Mike, its just not the same appeal as Mike...

But the movie is great IMO!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Youll be in my heARt
MIKE VS. PHIL COLLINS ON "you'll be in my heart"--

WAY BETTER AND CARRIES MORE MEANING THAT PHILL COLLINS COULD ATTEMPT.. HECK, IF NOT TO PUT DOWN PHIL COLLINS -HE IS GOOD,

BUT MIKE IS A WHOLE NOTHER BALL GAME OF EXCELLENCE--!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars does not do Michael C Justice!!
"If I Never Knew You", hard to hold back my watery eyes!!!
Way too much emotion in Mike's music makes me almost cry.
A great way to listen for best quality:

Stick a Mike Crawford CD in your computer CD drive-
Buy some good headphones. It will feel as if Mike is
right there with ya!!!

So expressive, so genuine, so real, so Michael.

Sings with such meaning-

Unlike other vocalists- notice how they sort of
"go through the motions"???

Mike seems to truly love his gift of music-and he only gets
greater!!!

OH YEAH- DOES ANYONE ELSE AGREE WITH ME THAT MIKE SHOULD
RELEASE RELAXATION TAPES???

I have all of his CD's - need to be more from the man himself!!!

I could praise this guy on and on!!!!! ... Read more

For The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh read-along, Disney dug deep in the Hundred Acre Wood and resurfaced with a plucky, honey-dipped package to please preschoolers and old-school Pooh fans alike. Here, Owl and Eeyore, et al., look their long-lost old selves, set in scenes so sparse and simple you want to crawl in and cuddle up. Cordial, grandfatherly narration by the crisp-voiced Christopher Plummer complements the old-fashioned, vaguely British flavor, and the tales are familiar to everyone, if briefer than we remember. First comes the quintessential Pooh quandary, wherein the bottomless honey pit of a bear humps it over to fidgety friend Rabbit's hole for a spot of lunch, only to fatten himself so unforgivably he can no longer fit through the front door. Next, but with nothing in the way of an audio segue or new chapter break, Wind's-day flies in, turning tiny Piglet into a porcine kite and crashing Owl's tree house to the ground. Meantime, Tigger terrifies the bear of little brain with his tales of heffalumps and woosels, and a torrential rainstorm washes Piglet and Pooh out of their homes and into a waterfall. Pooh rescues Piglet with a honey pot, Christopher Robin throws a hero's party, and Eeyore announces he's found a new nesting spot for Owl, but inadvertently renders Piglet homeless in the process. A happy ending's in store, but not before pauses in the action deliver us a pair of much-loved ditties, "The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers" and "The Rain, Rain, Rain Came Down, Down, Down." Spin it as an audio CD, slip it in the computer to read along onscreen, or dodge the digital scene altogether with the cassette--these sweet escapades, sewed up in 32 pages, zip along merrily, leaving not a sense of "O, bother" but the feeling you're glad you did. --Tammy La Gorce ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Nicely done Disney Pooh Product
I was pleasantly impressed with this CD, Cassette combo by Disney. We use the CD in the car and use the cassette in the kids tape player at home. This set has only 2 of the favorite classic stories on it including: Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (but only the story of when pooh gets stuck in rabbit's front door) and the Blustery Day.

My kids request it in the car so much I am pretty tired of it. The 4 year old reads along, and the book has attractive pictures from the movies that he likes to look at and keeps him quietly occupied. There is a couple cute songs, and the stories are abridged (so as to fit I am sure). The editing is done well though, and doesn't leave out any of the best parts.

As an adult I could tell that the voices of the characters (Tigger, Piglet, Christopher Robin (who isn't British anymore), Rabbit and Rooh & Kanga etc.) were not quite the same as in the movies, but the kids don't seem to notice or care. However different, they are still done well. The voice of Pooh (who in my opinion is the most important) however is still very close to the original (if not the same voice).

This is pretty simply a nice Disney product with good sound effects, songs, and voices that will make any pooh loving child a happy camper. My only complaint is that I wish there were more of the classic stories on it. I have not had the chance to try this, but the CD is also computer (CD rom) friendly and has the story with pictures that your child can view on the computer. ... Read more

For this 1966 session, Louis Armstrong took on 10 Disney classics. A few of the tracks have intriguing arrangements, notably the slowed-down, eerie-sounding version of "Chim Chim Cher-ee" from Mary Poppins and the hillbilly camp strings that swell throughout "The Ballad of Davy Crockett." But while there are about a hundred other Armstrong records that feature more inspired performances and arrangements, it's still an interesting, enjoyable disc. There's just something about songs like "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" and "When You Wish upon a Star" that delights kids of all ages. Armstrong's deep, graceful, unmistakable voice combined with his Dixie and traditional soloing par excellence make this a record worth owning for all fans of Disneyana. It's a tad camp and somewhat dated, but so are the movies the selections are taken from--it's part of the charm. --Mike McGonigal ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the Best Satchmo - Not the Best Disney - But Fun
This CD of familiar Disney songs sung by Louis Armstrong - the late great Satchmo - is not the best performance of his career, nor is it the best Disney disc available. Nonetheless, it is quite entertaing and fun to listen to with or without your children.

Don't purchase this if your looking for the best Satchmo performance, or the traditional arrangements of Disney tunes.

But if you're open minded and enjoy a little flavor, pick it up as a treat to hear one of the greatest musicians of all time fly through a number of happy tunes in his own special way. Including adding a few syllables to the nonsensical syllable songs "Chim-Chim-Cheree" and "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" - still recommended, especially for parents who want to introduce their children to jazz music.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT kid's album, and a good jazz disc!
My only gripe is that they changed the order from the original release. Pretty minor gripe, since the music is fantastic. "When You Wish A Upon A Star" may be a little cornball, but when Satch gets to the verse, it's hard not to smile or well up or both. Get it and introduce your kids to classic American music as early on as possible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes me and the baby happy!
We love to dance and unwind to Disney by Louis. The songs are my favorite Disney songs...back when Disney really was magical. We have really enjoyed this. Fun for road trips, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Cut Makes This A "Must Have"
This cd is worth its price for one cut: The "Chim Chim Cheree" is one of the finest pieces of jazz in the 20th century. It is haunting and brilliant, done languidly, with brilliant and subtle changes of language (so Louis makes it his own), two great solos and scat singing. In short, in one piece, Louis showcases what he did for 20th century music.

If I'm raving, I make no apologies. By coincidence (if there is such a thing) this was the first piece of music that made me smile after 9/11.

The rest of the cd is below average, imo.

3-0 out of 5 stars Esoteric? No - just really weird.
One of Louis Armstrong's talents was to turn an otherwise unremarkable song into a classic. Unfortunately, his talent is stretched to the limit here by some kitschy arrangements and overwrought vocal accompaniment. Satch still manages to shine in a couple of numbers, though - notably Chim-Chim-Cheree and the Bare Necessities. I found my copy on sale in a clearance outlet for 99ยข, and thought it was a pretty good deal for one of the stranger jazz albums I've ever heard. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Upbeat clean songs you will let your kids listen to.
This C.D. takes some of Disney's best songs and makes them into an upbeat disco sound.I teach using these songs. I use them in my P.E. class for running, jumping and performing sport skills. The students can sing with them while they jump rope or run around the gym. They love to dribble the ball while listening to Number 10 (Lion King.)The first song sets the tone for the C.D. with Donna Summer singing someday.I searched high and wide for songs suitable for elementary students that are clean and free from profanity. It is hard to find these type of songs. I enjoy using this C.D. hour after hour and find myself playing the songs for my own pleasure. It makes the time go faster for the student's as well. I would recomend this C.D. for any elementary teacher, pre-school teacher or family that would like Disney songs with a beat.

Amazon.com Review

The first version of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire was the third bestselling game of 1999 and continues to fly off store shelves, so a sequel was inevitable. Who Wants To Be a Millionaire: 2nd Edition gives fans 600 more questions and brilliantly captures the feel of the TV show. The only thing missing is the cash.

The game was developed by Jellyvision, famous for its irreverent You Don't Know Jack series of trivia games. Although the designers didn't have much to work with considering how Spartan the set of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire is, they did a masterful job of simulating both the mechanics and the drama of the television show, wrapping everything up in a slick interface that is immediately recognizable.

It seems impossible that players could feel any tension playing Who Wants To Be a Millionaire: 2nd Edition when no real money is at stake, but the game's perfect pacing did a nice job of at least making us think we were playing for cash. That's because it doesn't deliver an immediate response when a question is answered. Just as in the game show, if you answer a question quickly host Regis Philbin will confirm or reject your answer quickly. As the game progresses and the questions get tougher there is more of a pause between your answer and the confirmation. Regis will make some comments, sometimes offering you the chance to change your mind by asking the now grating "Is that your final answer?" as the show's music and a drum roll build tension in the background. The delays were surprisingly unnerving, making us constantly second-guess our answers.

Should a question prove too tough you can always fall back on your three lifelines. The designers polled 50 random people to provide data for the "Ask the Audience" lifeline, and The Reege's friends dispense audio advice for the "Phone a Friend" option. Of course, the 50/50 lifeline is also available.

All these elements coalesce to form a surprisingly fun trivia game, and one of the few available that is more fun to play solo than with a group of friends (although playing cooperatively with a few buddies can be fun). Games rarely take more than 20 minutes, so it's perfect for a quick trivia fix--we just wish it came with more questions. Guess we'll have to wait for the flood of sequels that is sure to follow. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Atmosphere provides some tension
  • Near-perfect simulation of the hit TV show
  • Lifelines are implemented well
Cons:
  • Questions quickly run out
  • Doesn't come with a million dollars

4-0 out of 5 stars Mass improvement, but not the overhaul others suggest
While this edition does make significant inroads against what ailed the origional _Millionaire_, it's more evolutionary than revolutionary. I've read other reviews here that talk about massive improvements to the fundamental graphics and playabilty of the game, but I'm not sure what they're talking about. In fact, the interface is almost exactly the same as in the original version--which is to say that the 'Fastest Finger' portion is a pale imitation of what happens on the actual TV show, and the 'Hot Seat' graphics are simply replicated. The latter isn't so bad--the 'Big Dance' makes one sweat bullets just like the TV show--but it's highly disappointing that they didn't try to find a way to better approximate the 'Fastest Finger'. Truth be told, they've made that part of the game appropriate for more people than could reasonably be around a computer keyboard.

What they *have* significantly altered are the questions. They are massively more appropriate for the dollar amount being wagered than in the first edition. And there are many, many more of them. The 'playable life' of this game is therefore much greater than the hour's worth of entertainment you could expect to get out of its predecessor.

If you've not bought a _Millionaire_ game, this is definitely where you should start. If you bought the first one and were disappointed, this one will at least be worth the modest purchase price. Personally, I think Disney Interactive (now Buena Vista Interactive) owes all who purchased the first edition a free copy of this second edition, but that being unlikely, I can definitely recommend that you put your toe back into the Disney ocean.

5-0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Good
The sequal to the original captures brilliantly the feel of the hit tv show. The first one was repetitve and sometimes the hardest questions were the 100$ ones, with this game, questions actuall make sense for the amounts and it really helps the actual game. Ive played my beta version several times, and am yet to get the same question, something that happened the 2nd time I played it. The game features new coments by regis like "so, you gonna make it your final answer?" and this time you actually see him instead of just his voice. This game has little requirments so it will work great on anybodys computers. With new questions, new voice-overs and new suspense, you can't go wrong, especially for just 20$. Pick this puppy up as fast as possible, because its gonna be HUGE!

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful!
The questions are IMPOSSIBLE to answer - especially with the stupid time limit (which, correct me if I'm wrong, ISN'T on the show) -- The first $100 question I was asked was which popular singer is referred to as the Chairman of the Board...

Silly questions - WAY to hard to answer... stupid game. And Regis Philbin is the most annoying man alive!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Experience -- Content Lacking
This game does as well as it can to replicate the TV experience. Regis' voice and videos, lifelines just as on the show, the whole works. But you'd better enjoy it, because the "replay value" is minimal. There are only about 600 questions here, and that means that after about 20 games, you will be seeing a lot of repeat questions, enough to really spoil the fun.

On a CD there should be room for many thousands of questions. But the use of audio files for the "phone-a-friend" lifeline likely eats up a lot of the available space. If they were all authentic, some people might judge it worthwhile. But most of them seem to be the silly "psychic hotline" responses, and these are definitely not worth it.

At ..., it still makes sense for fans of the show to give this a shot -- just be aware that you'll only get a week or two of enjoyment out of it. If you want a larger database of questions, consider the board game at ..., which *does* have several thousand questions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Game
This is a fairly good game. Some of the graphics get a little distorted at times, but they are pretty good. Some of the questions take a lot of time to think about it, but there is a 30 second time limit, so you have to think fast! The questions do start to repeat after you have played it for a while, but usually the questions don't repeat too often. I have three HP computers and this game works on all of them so the compatibilty shouldn't be an issue. Overall, this is a good game if you are looking for some entertainment, but you still want to learn something when playing the game! ... Read more

There is no sense picking up Duets or any of the Disney Karaoke series unless you, or whoever you are buying it for, has a karaoke machine, and Disney is forthright about letting potential buyers know it (the cover features a microphone prominently, and a TV screen below it alerts potential buddy-belters to its on-screen lyrics feature). The main consideration here, then, is not the music--which, for karaoke purposes, has to be kept fairly tepid--but the track selection. The producers picked wisely, going deep for half the songs and splitting the difference with a dose plucked from partner Pixar movies; thus, "Winnie the Pooh" butts up against "You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story, etc. Vocal versions arrive on the heels of the instrumentals for anyone requiring a primer on inflection and phrasing, but the big fun, of course, is the side-by-side factor. Something about passing a mike back and forth, even when it's only in someone's basement, says "friends for life" as much as swapping diaries, only in a much cooler, if occasionally off-key, way. --Tammy La Gorce ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Not your typical wretched children's music
The whole family loves this music (although I shouldn't presume to speak for the 5 month old)and that is more than I can say for most children's music. The singer, Larry Groce has a very good singing voice and his interpretations are great. The music is upbeat without being saccharin. The variety is a definite bonus and most of the songs are timeless classics. We hate hate hate the Wee Sing collection but we love this particular Disney set (we have volumes 1-4). We live in a particularly desolate part of New England and in order to get anywhere worth going we have to drive a minimum of 2-3 hours--this music is so helpful in the entertainment dept!

4-0 out of 5 stars nice selection of children's songs
This is a nice selection of songs, featuring a couple of nursery rhyme medleys and many classics such as Alouette, Michael Row the Boat Ashore, and the Alphabet Song.

While the selections seem well thought out, they are all performed by the same singers (Larry Groce and the Disneyland Children's Sing-Along Chorus) which detracts slightly from the enjoyment. Another Disney series, 'Classic Disney', features songs from Disney movies and is performed by the original artists.

A nice value.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, but I hope not the best
The singer here (Larry Groce) is not a complete unknown; back when we were kids ourselves, he had a big hit with the novelty "Junk Food Junkie". Those who remember that song's jokey-folkie style (and thin tenor) will have a pretty good idea of what to expect here. Not surprisingly, he does much better with the silly sing-along stuff than the songs which were meant to be taken more-or-less seriously, where he seems a bit clueless. Of course, they're all great songs, and our baby seems to like it fine, plus it's way better than Wee Sing or any of the other children's collections I know of. But I'm still hoping to find a children's CD by somebody who knows how to sing "Clementine" or "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore".

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Music Anthology for Kids - ever!
This CD is number three of four. All are superb and a "must own." All of the traditional favorites are on these CD's, and one of the most impressive features is that the musical styles represent so many of the different cultures in our great Melting Pot. This CD in particular has two medleys of nursery rhymes which are nice for younger kids especially, plus a very nice rendition of "Michael Row the Boat Ashore" which is a pleasing representation of early gospel-style music.

There is nothing mixed in here that was unfamiliar to me, just fine renditions of the classics - and in a traditional non-quirky style. The Disneyland characters only show up singing on occasion - once per CD max. The fact that there are four CDs is great, too, because listening to the same thing over and over again can be irritating, no matter how good it is. I am fortunate not to have tried too many other anthologies for kids before finding this one - this is THE BEST and totally fulfilled my interest in exposing my kids to great traditional American music. This series is the perfect thing to keep in the car. I love it, and my kids do, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BUY!
After hunting for two years to find the perfect tape (CD) for the car, I finally found it! It has a lot of the "classic" kid songs and is very well done. It was lost for a day and my daughter was heart broken! Can't say enough about how great it is. Now I can throw the rest out! ... Read more
