2-0 out of 5 stars Too vintage for me
This collection might appeal to vintage radio enthusiasts, but it was too strange for my taste. Many of the recordings (like "Grandfather's Clock") sound rather operatic, not good for sing-a-longs, which I hoped they would be. I was disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, nostalgia for grandparents
I like this cd for my 13 month old son, but it makes his grandparents even happier. A good overall choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best CD I have heard.
I am a collector of rare audio, I find cultural relics in the form of old recordings fascinating. I enjoy putting myself into the mindset of past times, it gives life to cultural history, plus the scratchy hollowness and distortion of old records creates a pleasing gothic effect. Together with old religious recordings ones for children are my favorite and I've wished for a CD just like this one for a long time. There's nothing I would change about this CD. The selection is excellent. The mood it creates is so effective that I first heard it on Halloween when someone used it to create atmosphere for trick-o-treaters! I would certainly reccomend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hard to Find Favorites
This cd is chock full of tunes you may remember from when you were a child. Chances are that many of them were already vintage tunes even then. But try to find a good recording of Teddy Bear's Picnic and Ragtime Cowboy Joe. The recordings range from the '20s to the '50s, and it's interesting to see how much we have lost in children's music. Nostalgic and fun. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Brings back childhood memories of songs
My mom taught me the words to Gofer Guts as a child and we used to sing it and be silly... this is a great thing to buy... let your kids be silly sometimes.... and hear them say ewwww it won't hurt them... just remind them they are songs... silly and gross but not real events....

A soothing collection of traditional and contemporary lullabies from luminaries such as Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Lena Horn, A Child's Celebration of Lullaby is a sweet treat for both parent and child. Standouts include "Light Up the World" by Joanne Shenandoah and "Lullaby," gloriously performed by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks. The key word here is gentle--all the songs bleed one into the other in similar quietude and drifting lilt (which for sleepytime is a positive thing). Not as stimulating or culturally diverse as other collections, Lullaby is nonetheless a stalwart naptime companion and a blessing for cranky parents. --Paige La Grone ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars soothing
a great compilation, my daughter loves it and falls asleep listening everynight, she is thirty five months old. Her most favourite is little brown dog.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Child's Celebration Of Lullaby
Although over the past year I have collected several Lullaby theme CD's, If I was to purchase only one CD, this would be my pick!

What a great CD! As a new parent, I have spent many a hour rocking to this eclectic CD and I have not yet grown tired of the selections. "A Child's Celebration Of Lullaby" introduced me to several fun songs, new to me such as "Morningtown Ride - Raffi", Little Brown Dog - Taj Mahal, Blanket For A Sail - Harry Nilssen, and Be Still My Child - Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Meaning and inspiration come through in "Light Up The World" - Joanne Shenandoah, and I felt special connection with "Singin' In My Heart" - Eric Bibb/Linda Tillery. One of the most soothing and beautiful tracks I believe is "Lullaby" - Van Dyke Parks/Brian Wilson.

Although I was previously familiar with Melancholy Baby, Summertime, Shenandoah Lullaby, Brahms' Lullaby, and Cody's Song, this CD has introduced new sounds to these popular songs.

I would give this one Six Stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mellowby
When I first heard this CD, I immediately loved it. The vocal artists and the musical selections are wonderful. I especially enjoy Taj Mahal's rendition of "The Little Brown Dog" and Lena Horne singing "Summertime". My four year old daughter loves the song entitled "Good Night" by The Roches. It is a delightful story about a young girl captured by an invisible monster. My 2 year old enjoys listening to Raffi's "Morningtown Ride" in the morning while we eat breakfast. This CD is not only for bedtime. Play it when you want to feel mellow. ... Read more

In an age when children are expected to meet the seriousness of living with their own early sobriety, a good bit of goofin' seems in order. And lighthearted levity is just what A Child's Celebration of Silliest Songs delivers: campfire favorites like "On Top of Spaghetti" and "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt," schoolyard rhymes such as "Tiny Tim" and "Apples and Bananas," and ticklishly wholesome renditions of "Three Little Fishies" and "Shake My Sillies Out." As with others in this popular series (which includes A Child's Celebration of Dance Music, A Child's Celebration of the World, and A Child's Celebration of Rock 'n' Roll, among others), Silliest Songs gathers material from a rich variety of sources. Highlights include appearances by well-loved children's artists Raffi, Julie Andrews, and Maria Muldaur. Also included are turns by Little Richard, the Persuasions, and comedian Cheech Marin, who steals the show as a singing bus driver. Best suited to toddlers and primary schoolers, this collection stands for the fun in function. --Paige La Grone ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars If you have a child, you might grow to like it!
I bought this (and several other CDs) when I was pregnant to test a variety of music for our baby who was in-utero. In the beginning, I liked a few of the songs right away, the others I did not. Today, we cannot do without it -- our baby would not let us:

After our baby was born (1-8 weeks old) we played this CD for him while he was awake and/or asleep (sometimes he would wake up if we stopped playing it). He responded to it by making little noises and concentrating gestures. Then the CD got put away during a house move and I recently dug it out of the box and replayed it, at this time, our baby has grown into a 1.5 yr old toddler. It immediately became very obvious that he still remembers many of the songs and he is still responding well to certain ones (the turtle song -Tiny Tim, Three Little Fishies, They All Asked for You, Shake My Sillies Out). For example, everytime he finds his stuffed turtle in his bathroom toy drawer or if he sees a turtle in any of his books, he starts waving his hands signaling to us that he wants to hear the Tiny Tim song -- either sang to him (we've herad it so many times we got it memorized) or played from the CD. When this first happened (we did not know what he really wanted since he is still learning to speak), he dragged us to the garage making some kind of music conductor gestures -- it turned out he remembered that the CD was in the car, and he wanted to hear the music before he would go night-night!

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing for the series
I bought this CD for the kids because we LOVED the "Celebration of Song" and "Celebration of Rock & Roll" albums from the same series. This one, however, was a real disappointment. Very few of the songs are good for singing along, and the lyrics of several of the songs are unintelligle. The producers have used a lot of filler (e.g., three tracks of "Be kind to your web-footed friends," none of them good), and some obvious classics are missing. Overall very disappointing! There are a few bright spots, however. My kids love Cheech, the School Bus Driver and there's a great track from Buckwheat Zydeco's children's album.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheese with sugar
A big disappointment: too many cheesy, saccharine, patronising tunes in the old Disney style. The odd classic like the Danny Kaye piece is overwhelmed by the material specially recorded for the album, using naff, dated synthesisers.

3-0 out of 5 stars silliest songs is not engagin
If your 2 year old is a fan of RAffi and Laurie Berkner and Toddlers Storytime/Playtime et al - this will be a ho hummer. It's too bad the compilation isn't more engaging and tends to swing between too wide an age range to be worth the investment. 50% nice songs and 50% blahs

5-0 out of 5 stars Like Magic-- MUST HAVE
This CD is amazing. It is a series of short (5-20 sec) sound clips of real world sounds, such as babies cooing, children laughing, train whistles, animals, etc.We keep it in the car player permanently, and it works like magic with our twins, who are now 6 months old. They ALWAYS listen to it attentively. If they were fussing, they stop and listen. They find it both interesting and soothing. And for adults, the sounds are pleasant, sort of background noise, making it about a million times more palatable than the 20th consecutive playing of Goofy singing "There's a Hole in the Bucket."

5-0 out of 5 stars Winning gift for a newborn
I sent this CD to a new Mom friend of mine and this is what she wrote:
Absolutely LOVED the CD.Thank you so much for sending it to us.It has been so fun to watch Zoe's responses to the different sounds.Even in her sleep, her expressions change while it's playing. She loves the organ grinder music, relaxes completely during the heartbeat sounds, and isn't a big fan of the galloping horses.Too fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really works...
This is an amazing compilation of interesting sounds. Since there is a wide variety of sounds, it does not get boring for the adults either.
Last week, I went to see my friend's 3-month-old baby at lunchtime and gave the Tiny Ears CD as a gift. The baby was very fussy when I got there, so I suggested that we try playing the CD. We played it and the baby enjoyed it for about 20 minutes or so while we could have lunch.

It was amazing to see the CD work. It kept the baby busy and interested while creating us time to have lunch.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tiny Ears CD even keeps adults' attention
This CD even kept ME interested. So many different sounds, some repeated to breed familiarity. You won't know what's coming next, and neither will your baby! Even sounds of mommy talking to a baby, but in the secret mommy/baby language. The clip of paper crumpling really bothered me, but apparently it was something that kept my attention when I was a baby, per my Mom's recollection. When is the NEXT one due out?

5-0 out of 5 stars Stimulating and entertaining
This imaginative compilation of real world sounds encourages parent-child interaction and engages both in an educational experience that is developmentally stimulating as well as entertaining. This CD makes learning fun for my 9 month old.Thank you Tiny Ears! ... Read more

Definately worth the minimal price. The lyrics are well sung and easy to sing along with. My 9 month old loves this cd. I now find myself singing these songs during the day. Following a long string of projects featuring the ticklish red monster, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland soundtrack serves up a group of goofy songs from the motion picture and favorites from previous outings such as Steven Tyler's rockin' anthem "I Love Trash" from Elmopalooza! While not as cohesive as Elmo Says BOO! or The Best of Elmo, this collection will nonetheless tickle the funny bones of preschool-aged youngsters. Highlights include Elmo's narrative of his (gasp!) lost cozy blanket and his journey of retrieval as he encounters Grizzy, Oscar, and the gang in Grouchland, as well as Tatyana Ali singing "Precious Wings" and Vanessa Williams as the Queen of Trash holding forth with "I See a Kingdom." --Paige La Grone ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Elmo in Grouchland
THe whole reason I bought this CD is because I love that song Mine that Huxley sings. I can't figure out for the life of me why they don't put all the songs on soundtracks! Why, why, why? Can you tell I bought this for my kids?

4-0 out of 5 stars Elmo's the greatest!
I'm an adult having seen the movie and immediately bought the soundtrack. Sesame Street is the greatest influence for our little people, and Elmo is my favorite. This soundtrack is "fun", upbeat, toe-tapping, pure pleasure and a welcome escape from the sometimes harsh reality of the world. I love Kevin Clash as "Elmo". His voice is so sweet, you can't help but smile. I was disappointed at the absence of Mandy Patinkin's song, as Huxley, "Mine"! As you may, or may not know, Mandy is a great singer/actor in his own right, and his song was also fun...very catchy and makes you want to move. It's exclusion took my rating down 1 point. Great soundtrack. I'm glad I bought it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Happiness Street
As soon as me and my friend went to see the movie in the cinemas I loved the soundtrack. "I See A Kingdom" by Vanessa Williams is still my favorite. It's a very happy soundtrack and not just for kids. I'm sure it'll brighten up anyone's day. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must!
We received this tape as a gift. We have played it until the tape is basically falling to pieces.

When we were ready to put our son to bed on his own, we tried it the first night to see how he did and he went right to sleep. The rest is history. Of course, all children are different but I think even a child who doesn't go to sleep on its own right away would find it easy to adjust with this soothing, unobtrusive music.

We are expecting our second child literally any day and are getting another copy to use with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Nap & Bedtime Companion
I received several CD's as gifts, this CD was the best! Puts my daughter to sleep right away. She used to cry when I put her down for a nap. Now she listens to a few songs and falls asleep!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lull It Does
We enjoyed this gentle recording of lullabies. My child had a lot of trouble getting to sleep, and it put her out.

This CD taught my daughter many songs that she could now sing to her new brother.

The only problem, besides singing lullabies all the time, was that it dangerously lulled me when driving on trips!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Night time Music for your little ones!

5-0 out of 5 stars bu-bu-bu-bummmmmm.....!
We own several of the "Baby's first" CD's and we love them all!

You can't beat the amount and quality of the music you get with this collection. We have gotten rid of the television from our household and our kids (12,5,2) now play with toys, read books, and listen to great music. I highly recommend classical music for stimulating brain growth and calm, productive play in children. I notice that when I have a CD like this one going in the playroom, the kids are occupied longer and get along better with each other. They also can attend to their activities better with classical music playing. I highly recommend this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful CD for your nursery!
As a first time parent I want to give my child every advantage I can. Studies have shown that playing music to your child helps to enhance their learning ability.

I saw "Baby's First" cd series and as they were so affordable I decided to go ahead and buy them without hearing them first.

My decision has been rewarded! The cd's are very good, and provide hours of music to stimulate my babies mind.

Buy this CD today, you won't be disappointed, and neither will your youngsters! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Beethoven for Bambinos (and others, too!)
I absolutely love the Baby's First series. It is soothing and calming-perfect for sleepytime or quiet time. I put these CDs on when my young daughters are having quiet time or going to sleep. I will hit the repeat button, and the songs will play all night. One night, I forgot, and my four year old daughter, Allison came out and said, "Sammy Rose and I are lonely for Beethoven..." I also teach 5th grade, and these CDs are terrific for teachers like me who like to have soothing background music on in their classrooms all of the time. The best part about these CDs it that they are SO affordable. Once I took a chance on them and found them to be of such high quality, I have sent them as gifts to countless friends (new baby, people with toddlers, older kids, etc.). Don't let the titles limit you! The Fairy Tales and Guitar CDs in this series are especially well done! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars By Far, My All-time Fave Children's CD!!
I can't say enough about the wonderful cd! Given as a gift when our daughter was born, this cd soothes me as much as it does her. I am so hooked on this! We play it in the car all the time to help baby Maddie relax and sleep. The songs are easy to learn and just so soothing. You will be singing them over and over. This cd makes the perfect gift for a new or expecting mom. What a great combination of voices, also! Buy it. You are sure to love it! To me, a must-have for all!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I really liked nearly all the songs on this CD. We play it every night while my little boy is falling asleep, and we both love listening to it over and over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Music for the mother's soul
I recieved this CD as a gift when I had my first daughter. It quickly became part of our night time nursing routine. Because it was hard at first, the lyrics and the music helped get me settled and make the task of nursing more relaxing and enjoyable. I'm happy to say she slept through the night by 7 weeks old but we still played the CD at her bedtime nursing for many months. When I had my second daughter I had PPD and was not able to nurse. But the music still was part of our night time routine and helped me bond with her as much as with our first. My first daughter's song is "Love you up to the Moon" and my second's is "My Dream Come True." The lyrics and the instrumentals moments make this so much better than a music-only CD. I recommend this for any new mom, second time mom, and those looking for the perfect and unique gift!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Lullaby CD
I got this CD for my son who is now 2 1/2 yrs. I loved the songs and we played it all the time when he was real little. I passed it on to a friend when my son was about 1 1/2 yrs. I have been missing this CD ever since. Just looking at the names of the songs brings joy to my heart. I still remember all the words and I was happily surprised that none of the songs are cheesy. The songs said everything that I wanted to express in my love for my son. The CD is a great blend. We are expecting a new baby next month and I have been desperate to find this CD again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the Best

Raffi seems to be the driving force behind Bright Spaces, a benefit album whose proceeds will be distributed by the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children for homeless kids living in shelters. Out of the 16 tracks here, the ubiquitous children's music superstar contributes four, including one of his most memorable, "All I Really Need." And in an inspired moment, Arlo Guthrie joins his late famous father, Woody, for a father-son duet of "This Land Is Your Land," the other American national anthem. With songs by Sweet Honey in the Rock, the delightful Jessica Harper, John McCutcheon, singer-activist Si Kahn, David Mallett, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, and others, Bright Spaces generates its own special brightness and sheltering warmth. Along with the theme song from Arthur and Friends by Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, Bright Spaces features a funky and unforgettable call-and-response gospel version of "Old MacDonald" by Jane Sapp's Dream Project. From Sapp's great We've All Got Stories, this cut alone is worth having for kids and adults. --Martin Keller ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great CD for children
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Bright Spaces CD. We played it at our center during drop off and pick up times and the children loved it. Especially the Arthur theme. I could here them singing down the hallway to their classrooms. Also my one year old niece enjoyed listening to the music. She would bounce up and down or move side to side. The CD encourages children to sing along and move to the many beats. Thank you for putting together a wonderful CD full of great songs. Looking forward to another one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bright Spaces
This compilation of various styles/artists is the best that I have heard! Starting with (my 3 1/2 year old's favorite) the theme song from the children's show "Arthur" and ending with Raffi's beautiful rendition of "Good Night Irene", this CD is sure to be an instant hit with both parents and children. It is a very engaging mixture of all musical forms from bossa nova to country to a very soulful version of "Old MacDonald." Because of this creative mixture, I find myself looking forward to the next musical style and not becoming bored with the same old predictibility that is so common in children's music. This CD features all the greats: the Gunthries together, Cathy and Marcy and John McCutcheon-just to name a few. Not only is this terrific music, but it also benefits homeless children. Run out and buy this one!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
A fine addition to your family of children's music. You and your kids will find a new haven of quiet enjoyment. When they just won't sleep I lean on this one as a crutch to quiet them down. The only thing missing is a cool version of Patty cake

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD for children and parents to enjoy together
My sister works with Bright Horizons and bought this CD for my 2 year old son. The first time we listened to it he danced or swayed to every song, he couldn't resist the beat! The first track on the CD is the theme song from the PBS show "Arthur" which he is familiar with and that sort of brings you in. From there the music speaks for itself. It's fun, and upbeat with a few beautiful and quiet melodies. There isn't a song we don't enjoy, in fact the only problem is that we often have to listen to the same ones over and over again! He loves it and I do too. You won't go wrong with this CD and it benefits a great cause too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Relaxing and wonderful music
I bought this cd when I was pregnant with my baby and listened to it frequently and I also used it during and after labor to help relax. It was the perfect thing. And I have played it for my baby ever since at naptime and bedtime. She is a year old now and it still relaxes her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD for bedtime

4-0 out of 5 stars There's gonna be fireworks on the Fourth of July
This CD sponsored by Schoolhouse Rock is a benefit album for Rock The Vote. It features rockers doing cover versions of old "America Rock" Schoolhouse Rock songs, plus some new songs. I liked the remakes a lot, the new songs I didn't like as much. But that may be due to the fact that I have no nostalgia for the new songs. "Rock the Vote" by the Virtuals is an okay song urging people to get out and vote. "I'm Just a Bill" is a great remake of a classic, featuring Issac Hayes as the Bill and Joan Osborne as the Boy. "Sufferin' Till Suffrage" is a fine remake by blues legend Etta James. "The Campaign Trail" is a fun song by original Schoolhouse rocker Bob Dorough. John Popper does a good job with his cover of "The Preamble". Essra Mohawk contributes the new song "Do You Wanna Party?", about the two party system. "Fireworks" is redone in a rap version by old school rappers the Sugarhill Gang. "Three-Ring Government" is a really good remake by the Roots with Jazzyfatnastees. "Get to Know Your Electoral College" by Spicy T & Shihan attempts to explain a concept that a lot of people don't understand. "Messin' With My Bill of Rights!" is a new song by original Schoolhouse rocker Grady Tate. This is an enjoyable album that benefits a worthy cause. Vote Kerry! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My son with apraxia loves this CD
This song is almost always in our car's cd player. My son who is 3 and has apraxia never sang before I purchased this CD.He loves the songs and the slower tempo allows him to sing along. He now is starting to sing along with his friends in class which he never had the confidence to do before.I would highly recommend this cd.

1-0 out of 5 stars Please turn it off!
My son has a speech disorder but he managed to say "Turn it off!". I guess it was helpful in that respect. The words are very choppy and unnatural sounding. I would not recommend this CD. ... Read more
