Including contributions from Tex-Mex power folkie Tish Hinojosa, Cuban opera diva Clara Alonso, and Nelie Lebrón Robles, lead singer of Paracumbé, an Afro-Puerto Rican outfit, Latin Lullaby is a richly moving encounter with dream-inducing tunes sung in Spanish. Drawing on the relatively new folk customs of Latin America, this collection features elegant guitar noodling, classical orchestration, a cappella intimacy, and straight-ahead guitar and voice lullaby, as on "Duermete Mi Nino" ("Sleep My Child"), Venezuela's national anthem. Also present are progressively traditional ballads of parental love and protection, adult concerns, and gently rootsy narratives detailing the everyday responsibilities of child rearing. The latter is exemplified by Mili Bermejo's "La Cuna de Tu Hijo" ("The Cradle of Your Child"), in which a proud papa labors over crafting a customary baby bed, as well as by Cuban pop star Xiamantha Laugart's cheeky medley about a mother's negligence and a dancing baby. --Paige La Grone ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My baby's favorite CD
This CD is my baby's favorite since he was only a week old. It is so soothing to be put to sleep to and the songs are so melodic and a welcome change from those clangy anoying music box type music. This is real music you would listen to yourself for a nice hot bath. The songs are easy to learn and sing with your child weather or not you are a spanish speaking family. It was a nice way for my baby to learn Spanish and reenforce his language in the home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Sleepytime Music
I bought this CD for my daughter when she was just a couple of weeks old. She's now 3 mos. old and won't go to sleep unless we play it for her. Sometimes I can hum the "Senora Santana" song to her and she falls right to sleep. I highly recommend this CD

5-0 out of 5 stars a wonderful CD
My baby loves this CD- it makes him sooo sleepy. It makes us sleepy too! There is one song that is a little "upbeat" and not really "lullaby-like" but I would still give it 5 stars. The spanish lyrics are beautiful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hypnotic, Soul-Searching Music
This CD is incredible -- my infant son was lulled to sleep by it, and it calmed him when nothing else could. Well, I missplaced the CD for about a year and a half, had another baby during that time, and found it today while I was doing a deep cleaning of our house. I popped the CD in, and my son (now three years old) sat there enchanted. I just now rocked him to sleep like I used to while listening to it, and it brought back a flood of heart-warming memories. Then I put my infant daughter to sleep, and it was touching to see her fall asleep to it, too. The songs touch your very soul, especially A La Nanita Nana.

5-0 out of 5 stars My baby loves this CD!
My baby boy, who is now 9.5 months old, was adopted at 7 months from Latin America. We listen to this CD every night, and before each nap. Every time I put it on, his eyes get huge, and he is mesmerized by the music. He listens to it very calmly for about 15 minutes, and then drifts off to sleep. I really like it, too. It's very, very calming. I highly recommend it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rise and Shine
My two year old and I both love these infectious, toe-tapping songs! A collection of sweet, charming songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun! Highly Recommended.
We have this CD as part of the outstanding 3-CD collection called "Raffi's Box of Sunshine." We've been listening to it every day for weeks now.

It has a lot of faster songs for dancing and moving, and there are some great songs for singing along with. Some songs rhyme and repeat, which is great for language development, and the themes are good for children. Raffi is a great songwriter. We never get tired of it - even adults.

5-0 out of 5 stars Destined to be a classic
We love Raffi songs in our home, and this CD is definitely the favorite! "Thumbelina" will stay in your head for days, and "Something in My Shoe" will get your toes tapping. This CD has a perfect blend of national and international folk songs and oringinal songs. Truly Raffi's best work. Our only concern is that the tune of "Wheels on the Bus" is not the traditional version that many Americans are accustomed to, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. My children are simply learning that there is more than one way to sing a song!

5-0 out of 5 stars Create tomorrow's memories...
Having listened to this CD (cassette) countless times with my two boys on car vacations, as background music while building wooden train layouts on Saturday afternoons, and as wakeup music, I still find myself singing many of these infectious songs to myself. Now my boys are older (ages 6 and 9) and I realize that, although they occasionally will pop this tape into the player, the greatest gift of Raffi's music are the wonderful memories he has provided me and my family. But, it's not over yet. Today I'm ordering this CD as a baby shower gift because, as with all good music, it IS the gift that keeps on giving. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute and bouncy
NIce CD for the little ones, and a real nice price.
Also my kids love the Scripture Rock and Worship Rock series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Movement Songs
My 5 year old loves to dance around and march to many of these traditional Christian songs. I am glad there is a group of music (Cedarmont Kids) that I can trust to be "safe" to listen to and to help teach Christian values! We have almost ALL of their CD's! Sung by kids for kids, although my husband and I enjoy them very much, also!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! A great tool for working with kids!
This is a wonderful album, which I use on a weekly basis in our church preschool chapel. The songs are catchy and repetitive enough for preschoolers to learn, but at the same time are not too infantile for older children either. The other CDs in the series are good, but this one is clearly the most fun, as the songs are tailored to add motions and movement. A sheet music edition is available as well, which contains not only the music, but suggestions for actions. Be forewarned - Your children will be singing the songs on this CD until you're sick of them! :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll love this CD!
This CD is wonderful. My daughter is almost 4 and is is perfect for this age. The songs are peppy & catchy & sing-along-able. Even I enjoy it, and usually I find kids' CDs annoying!! The 1st song, the title song, is bound to get you absolutely toe-tapping, if not leaping up to start dancing. I put this CD on for my daughter whenever I need to get a chore done & i need to keep her amused; it works every time ! This is not the Strawberry Shortcake of yesteryear......... of like 20 years ago. This is not folksy, old-fashioned goody-goody-boring (no offense to vintage Strawberry Shortcake lovers). THis is upbeat, today, exciting, real GIRL stuff........ and it is fun! You'll be glad you picked it up.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent CD for the Strawberry Shortcake fan!
Songs are upbeat and cheerful - even my son likes them! (Shhh!) "A berry happy birthday, to you. A berry happy birthday, to you!" "Jammin', Jammin' Strawberry Jammin' - Looking for Spring and we're jammin'!" "Springtime, springtime, jol-ly jing time" these are just a couple of the songs running through my mind right now... :-)

What makes it even better is that it's a full length CD, not a short track of three or four songs. You really get your money's worth with this one. A *must buy* for your modern Strawberry Shortcake fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars STRAW-BUH-BUH-BUH-BERRY-FUN

3-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't this disc have been a little more comprehensive?
Considering that EMI has deleted all the original Chipmunks product from the 60s (and never reissued the first album on CD) I would think it wouldn't be asking too much to have put another 10 tracks on this disc. Where's "Ragtime Cowboy Joe" and "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer"? "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Spain" also should be here, and "I'm Henry VIII I Am". How about "The Alvin Twist"? In fact, shouldn't this have really been a best of David Seville? "Witch Doctor" is here but a best of Seville could also include "The Bird On My Head", "The Trouble With Harry" and "Almost Good". Almost Good? Well, I guess that's what this compilation is.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Want Even More
Just as the sense of smell can catapult you back in time, so can the sense of hearing. And hearing these wonderful original recordings of Alvin & the Chipmunks was pure joy. Pay dirt. I discovered The Alvin Show at the young age of five back in the early 1960's. I've waited many years but finally the old music is coming out of the vaults. This CD features not only traditional favorites such as Witch Doctor and The Chipmunk Song, but also rare cuts like Japanese Banana, the opening and closing themes and Chipmunk Fun, but also my favorite I Wish I Could Speak French. What a great find for a guy who wishes he could find all of his favorite nostolgic original soundtrack music. Even the Chipmunks rendition of America The Beautiful struck a famililar chord. Although I've heard or sung that song hundreds of times, I'll bet I heard it first on The Alvin Show. I sure wish I had all the original Chipmunk music, as well as the original cartoon soundtrtack music. Remember that woman who the Chipmunks drove crazy..."Don't you just love a baby, a baby...." I guess I want it all. Is that so bad? How 'bout it Capitol Records? At least start releasing the '60s cartoons on DVD. Imagine that! All the music and Clyde Crashcup besides. Actually there is The Chipmunks Sing Alongs licensed from CEMA...it's a good start. Thanks Capitol Records John Mark

5-0 out of 5 stars Alvin & The Chipmunks - Greatest Hits-Still Squeaky Af
All I have to say when I first put this CD in I had high expectations that I thought Alvin and the boys could not meet, but after cranking up track one I knew I was on the fast track to musci heaven. These guys hit all the notes and did all my favorites on this album. If I was not 25, not living in my mothers basement, and actually had something other than and FM/AM radio in my car I would let the world here this album. Keep on truckin' Chipmunks!

4-0 out of 5 stars Alvin stands for Anarchist!
The Chipmunks were one of the most avant-garde groups of the late 50's and 60's. To heck with the Shaggs, Dylan and Zappa, the 'Munks made truly subversive recordings disguised as harmless "childrens records" designed to make little kids disrepect thier parents, teachers and other authority figures. Alvin was a true anarchist (why'd you think he wore that "A"?) shooting guns inside the studio (Cowboy Ragtime Joe) way before gangsta rappers made it all the vouge and changing Dave's MOR arrangements on the fly (Alvin's Harmonica) to cha-cha-cha or Rock N Roll. He shoulda got that Hula-Hoop...

That said, the 80's Chipmunks were a huge disapointment when they made thier comeback. Ross Jr. made the chipmunks as safe as boring as the Smurfs. The LP's (Chipmunk Punk?!) were equally as dull, sometimes Alvin's voice was a sped-up female voice! The original Liberty albums were the real deal - they are childrens classics that bring back a lot of joy to Baby Boomers. (Just be careful what tracks you play to your kids) I agree with other reviewers that this collection should have been more comprehensive. A box set or at least a 2-CD set with every David Seville and Chipmunk 45 plus any unreleased gems would be great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Forget the kids!
I bought this for my kids because I knew they would love these songs just as I did. Forget them! I love it! There is NOTHING like the Chipmunks and never will be again. The Christmas song is worth the price alone. Don't think about it. Just get it. ... Read more

Marlo Thomas's reasons for waiting to follow up 1972's landmark feminism-for-kids disc Free to be You and Me remain her own, but Thanks & Giving: All Year Long comes not a second too late, suffusing both its grown-up listeners and the under-10 crowd with the same sit-up-straight-but-laugh-hard spirit of its predecessor. The message has changed--generosity and giving get the treatment this go-round--but the thrill remains the same. Here you've found a disc that folds many of your still-developing parental speeches into easily swallowed, often hilarious soundbites. Credit Hollywood, whose heavy hitters Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Robin Williams pitch in with stories and rhymes (studded by musical breaks from Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Buffett, and others). Or credit Thomas, who produced and performed extensively, misstepping only on an awkward duet with Uncle Kracker. Either way, you get a disc whose message and MO makes sense for everybody in the family, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital gets 100 percent of the royalties. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Compilation
This is one of the best albums I own. It is an excellent blend of modern (well...mid 90's) and a few more traditional-sounding African songs. It has beautiful Zulu and English lyrics, engaging music, and is wonderful to listen to in just about any setting. Most of the songs are only loosely connected to the Lion King soundtrack by their overall theme and mood, but "He Lives in You" is the opening song for Lion King 2, and the album features a good remake of "Hakuna Matata."

In sum, this is a fantastic album that you will listen to for years.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great listening experience
This great CD contains some twelve tunes inspired by Disney's hit movie, The Lion King. Bearing wonderful African melodies and words, the songs are not merely remakes of songs from the movie, but actually take off in a new direction. Some are in English, some are in African languages, and some are in both. The music is wonderful - peaceful and enchanting. I would say, ignore the Lion King connection, this CD is a great listening experience in and of itself, and I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll be taken aback at how good this is
Nearly a decade ago, my parents took me to Sam Goody to buy me a CD to cheer me up after getting back from a disastrous visit with relatives. Rhythm of the Pridelands immediately caught my eye because I absolutely loved everything Lion King and had seen the movie in the threatre two years before. I got the CD hoping that it would be just as good as the motion picture soundtrack that I had on cassette at the time. When I got home and listened to it, I was definitely happy with it. Since I was a kid and didn't know the disappointment that I've come to expect with many other soundtracks as an adult, I took Rhythm for granted. And since I didn't take the greatest care of my CDs back then, Rhythm became so scratched that it was nearly unplayable because of the skipping. I got rid of the CD, but I still have the inner booklet with the beautiful cover art. I've been looking to get another Rhythm CD, but I haven't seen it in stores. I haven't heard the disc in years, and can't recall much of it, but I do remember the beautiful, atmospheric feel most of the songs had. The vocals are soaring, and the tribal beats match perfectly. If you enjoyed the original Lion King soundtrack, I'm sure you'll be taken aback at how good this is. Definitely buy it if you can find it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Busa
I haven's heard all the songs, but "Busa" is worth the money alone. it is the song that is played when simba runs back to Pride Rock. Only it's about 8 times longer. A must hear! This song opened my eyes to African music. I can't base the whole CD on one song, so i'll give it 4 stars. But If the rest of the CD is as good as this, it should definitly get 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very emotional and fun CD!
I was completely blown away by the music on this CD. Lebo M has such a great voice, and the lyrics and melodies of this CD do NOT disappoint. This is definitly a more mature version of the Lion King's music, and I really think it adds more depth to the original story and soundtrack. The first track, "He Lives in You," is one of the more serious ones that has sort of a nostalgic sense to it (though not overwhelmingly so). "Hakuna Matata" is an up beat, faster version of the original that's lush with vocals and melodies and does the original wonderful justice. There are so many layers to Lebo's "Lion Sleeps Tonight" that it's a pleasure to hear them all working together. The lyrics are simple and sweet, but very elegant. "Kube" is another bouncy, positive song that has a bit more dominant vocals, but utilizes plenty of percussion. "Lea Halalela" is a slower song written by the Lion King's original composer, Hans Zimmer. "It's Time" is another nostalgic track with an even pace. "One by One" is an all vocal a capella sung mostly in an African language but it's beautiful nonetheless. The "Warthog Rhapsody" was suppsoed to have been used in the first Lion King, but it was one of those songs that just didn't make it. Written again by Hans Zimmer, it's a very fun and silly track. "Lala" and "Busa" are also Hans Zimmer influences. "Lala" is a slower, sadder song that very serene with subtle melodies. "Busa" is very fast paced, and some will remember this melody from the movie. Last but certainly not least is "Noyana," a traditional African song that nicely wraps up this CD with is dominant vocals and uplifting melodies.

I've noticed that this CD is increasingly going up in price. Get it while you still can, you will not regret it! Even if you weren't interested in the Lion King's music, this is great for the African themes. If you did like Lion King's music, be prepared for this CD's greater emphasis on the vocals that were sparse in the original soundtrack. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BARNEY'S FAVORITE'S VOLUME 1
I LOVE BARNEY SO MUCH . I WATCH THE BARNEY & FRIENDS TV SHOW EVERDAY. I HAVE BARNEY'S FAVORITE'S VOLUME 1 ON CASSETTE TAPE
I LOVE IT SO MUCH

5-0 out of 5 stars Barney has changed my life deeply!
I am 33 and Barney changed my life at age 29. I used to be an arogant freak. But thanks to Barney I now share, care, and love. I love this album!

4-0 out of 5 stars A really good preschool kids' CD
I am a musician and find many of the typical kiddie CDs almost intolerable due to the lack of talent of the singers. This one is suprisingly good. The Barney actor and children from the cast sing the songs. The children are quite talented, making it easy for adults to listen to. Kids love the songs. It features a good assortment of familiar songs from the TV show and classic children's songs. My 2-year old loves it and requests this CD daily. I am able to stand listening to this CD over and over much easilly than his other favorites. The "clean-up" song is also usefull during clean-up time in our house.

5-0 out of 5 stars Barneyrific!
My four year old loves Barney. This is one of his favorites. We've been through several of the cassettes. They ware out very quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Barney is cool
This is the best barney cd ever I bought for my 21 year old son and he loved it. Thise is extremely cool. I loved it too. Barney Is the bomb. It beats N'Sync, Britney Spears, and Backstreet Boys. Songs from Bear in the Big Blue House, which sends kids 2 and older an open invitation to a gigglefest, is bursting at the seams with simple melodies, goofy voices, and loopy, encouraging lyrics that linger. This 24-track is a testament to the late Jim Henson's genius for conjuring characters that bounce off one another with a just-right mix of confusion and harmony. An offshoot of the Disney Channel television show of the same name, Songs boasts the familiar Muppet-like housemates--caring and compassionate Bear; Tutter the high-strung mouse; orange Ojo, a junior bear; otters Pip and Pop; and Treelo the lemur. Bear's warm baritone finds its way onto every last track--he's clearly the head of the big blue household, though hardly its pluckiest resident--but each of the other characters comes clean about a kid-pertinent issue or two on these songs, too. Ojo, for example, relates the unfairness of getting spooked by big, scary monsters every time she goes to bed on "Go to Bed, Sleepy Head," and Tutter tackles his type-A tendencies on "Take Time to Smell the Cheese" and "Quiet Time." In contrast, some of these songs are pure, message-free fun: Pip and Pop momentarily become the Salt 'n' Pepa of the puppet kingdom on "Otter Love," a hip-hoppy ode to the warm fuzzies, and Bear and Treelo bust a toe-twitching move on "The Bear Cha-Cha-Cha." Fans of the show will know most songs and appreciate their accessibility and portability on disc or tape. Those who aren't already tuned in, on the other hand, will take a shining to this oddball crew given this smartly accessible musical introduction. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME CD for little ones who love Bear!!
This CD was opened by our little 22 month old who loves Bear in the Big Blue House!!
Once we put it in the stero , she started to dance and wants it on all the time. She loves Bear sooooo much she even recieved 4 books from Bear in the Big Blue House too.
We listen to it sooo much I now know all the words to the songs and they are such sweet ones too!
My 7 yr old and 9 yr old don't mind listening either , they are such loveable songs!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great music for kids AND parents
This CD is one of my favorites. If your kid like Bear, then he or she will love singing along with all of his or her favorite characters!! I also find that this music is easier on the ears for parents. The tunes are nice and fun to sing along to. My 3 year old daughter listens to this over and over for hours in the car. I would also recommend the second CD, More Songs from..., which I actually like a little more.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS CD ROCKS! !!! PARENTS will LOVE this as much as kids
This is a great CD and we owned it a couple years prior to seeing the show. The songs have great lyrics and fab sounds. buy this for yourself and everyone you know. This is not your typical kids CD. My 4 year old loves this and now my 14 month old wants "Bear" when she is in the car. My husband even finds himself singing the songs in the house. Listening to "their music" will not be torture any longer.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Just TRY not to sing along!
We've only had this CD a few days, and have probably listened to it 100 times already. My 2.5 yr. old daughter has only seen the BITBBH Potty Time video and a few other episodes, so you don't have to be a regular viewer to love this music. The only song that I could do without is "Go to Bed, Sleepy Head", and not because it's not a good song (it is), but because Ojo is discussing how when she tries to go to sleep at night, these scary monsters keep coming in her room making scary noises. Of course, the rest of the song is Bear reassuring her that everything is OK., etc. But it seems to have planted a seed in my daughter's head that there could be scary monsters in her room! Yikes! We hadn't quite gotten to that stage of development yet, but it was sure to come at some point. So for now, I try to skip it if I can. Having said all that, I still give it 5 stars; it's that good! The rest of the CD is a a nice mix of different styles of music, including a rap tune (Otter Love) that at first seemed a little out of place, but it grows on you. The best are "That's My Name" and "Oops! I Goofed Again", but really they're all great!

5-0 out of 5 stars He got my son singing!!!...
This is a great cd!!! Out of all the children's characters there are today, this is the absolute best. I'm bilingual Canadian. Out of both English and French, it's the best.. The songs are clear and understandable for the young kids.. My son always loved music, but this one rocks... For the first time I got to see him not only dance to music he loved but sing to it too... his favorite is the goodbye song...To see the excitement in his eyes that he was saying all the right words at the same time as Bear was precious...I recommend this to any parent with young children... toddlers to be exact. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Little Girls
I ordered this Karaoke CD for my 9 year old daughter. She
loves singing the songs from some of her favorite Disney movies.
This is the perfect CD for any little girl who loves to sing, and perfect for any Mom who is sick of hearing the same old Karaoke CD's with Britney Spears "Oops I did it Again".
When I ordered the CD I took a chance because there was no information on the song selection. It's perfect for both my 9yr old and my 3yr old who also loves to sing along with her big sister.
The CD selection are; 1-Just Around the Riverbend 2-Part of Your World 3-Beauty and the Beast 4-Colors of the Wind 5-Reflection 6-He's a Tramp 7-A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes 8-Part of the Heart of the Sky. The first 8 songs are the instrumental versions followed by 8 vocal versions of the same songs.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disney quiet-oke!
My daughter will not use the CD. It's pretty boring for a 6 year old. It's pretty poor choice of music. Maybe it will work out better for older girls?! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE BEST LULLABY CD AROUND, NO KIDDING!
My sister passed the entire set of tapes to me when my son was born. It was her saving grace with her colic baby. It shortly became mine. My son is now 19 months old and as soon as he hears the heart beats he climbs into bed without much resistance at all. The tapes are now worned out from excessive use and I have recently purchased two cd's, one for home and one for daycare. The CD is a hit at daycare! His friends seem to love the music as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Have used it for years
My children are now 14, 11, and 8. We had used this
tape ever since the beginning of our family 14 years
ago. All three children loved it as it was a regular
part of our bedtime routine. It's also a great shower
gift. We highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best CD Around!
We were given the cd as a gift, thru the Air Force's "First-time parent program" and didn't use it at first. However, when we did start to use it, we felt really stupid for waiting so long. We put my daughter to sleep every night with this cd, and use it as needed during the day. When the cd starts, you can see and feel her start to relax immediatly. Of all of the things that you need to have as a parent, this ranks as one of the top items!

5-0 out of 5 stars Still using it 5 years later!!!
I bought this CD when my daughter was a newborn. In the beginning I'd rock & sing to her and just before she fell asleep, I'd put her in her crib. Eventually I was able to lay her in her crib and just sing to her and she would be asleep before the end of the 2nd track.

Now, as a new kindergartener, she has been having trouble falling asleep so early. I brought out the old CD and played it for her. She even remembered the music. She visibly relaxed the first time I turned it on and was sound asleep within 15 minutes. It has once again become part of her bedtime routine.

5-0 out of 5 stars First thing to buy for a new baby!
We received the tape of this and wore it out completely with my son. We started using it when he was a few weeks old and it always put him to sleep. The warning on the tape is true...it will put parents to sleep as well (especially parents of newborns!). I really recommend buying the cd. The second the tape would end, we couldn't get in the room fast enough to flip it over. I'm expecting my 2nd child and buying this cd is #1 on my to-do list! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful melody!!!
The melody is beautiful, and the lyrics are very beautiful, romantic and encouraging! The song "Happy Birthday" of Ariel's is very good, because Ariel's voice is beautiful and sweet! The song "If you can dream" of all the princesses is the best! I have been looking for MP3 of this song, and now I found it has been featured in this album! Hah hah... I think I'll buy this album!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, encouraging, and nostalgic
After getting somewhat . . . okay, VERY annoyed with Disney using only recycled footage and rereleasing old songs for their albums, I was pleased to learn that they had actually created a new album with all the original Princess voices, except of course Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora.Even though the singers they got to impersonate these three don't sound quite like them, they still have lovely voices.

After reading the song titles, you'd expect this CD to sound extremely childish and cheesy, but instead the songs are sung beautifully and have a very Broadway style to them, and many sound like they could have easily fit into the Princess movies, or at least the melodies and they way they're sung.Who'd expect anything less from these extremely talented singers, such as Jodi Benson, Lea Salonga, Judy Kuhn, and Susan Egan?

The lyrics are somewhat cheesy, but they're not nearly as bad as they sound, and some of the songs have gorgeous lyrics that aren't cheesy at all, such as "Waiting for My Prince" and "These Moments We Share," which are some of my favorites.I also love "The Princess Dance" because the tempo changes each time a different princess sings, which makes it a very fun song because as soon as you get tired of one style, it shifts to another.

Personally, I think this album is beautiful for any age group because of how lovely the songs are sung and how nostalgic they are of the old Broadway style songs in traditionally animated Disney movies, but if you are planning on buying it for children, I think it would be very good for them as well because the songs are extremely encouraging and complimentary, referring to the listener as a beautiful princess, etc.Ariel's song, "Manners and Etiquette," encourages children to be polite and considerate, "The Princess Dance" would be a lot of fun for children to dance to, and Jasmine's "Musical Chairs," although it's the most irrelevant song on the CD, teaches children about this popular game, which could easily be played to this song. Also, Ariel's "Happy Birthday, Princess!" would be perfect for a birthday party.

This is a very fun CD overall, the songs are all sung beautifully, the instrumentals are done perfectly, and children would adore it.The only thing I didn't like was the cover because I thought it should feature the princesses more, so I designed my own cover for it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We love Trout Fishing!
We bought this CD about 4 or 5 years ago after we saw them perform "Teddy Bear Picnic" for an adult audience in Texas. We were smitten. The music has become part of our family history. My husband sings the sweet "Lullaby" to our children and I always get a lump in my throat when I hear it. I think it will be a classic lullaby one day. Our kids sing all the words to all the songs. The lyrics are right on their level and are very funny. The CD is still a favorite even though they've grown and changed for 4 years. (Our oldest child is now 13.) I've never tired of hearing the music, because if you took away the words, the guitar and base music would grab you anyway. Keith and Ezra are very talented musicians and there's a thread of the blues running through some of their songs. Sometimes, I find myself (a non-singer) belting out a chorus along with my kids..."Pico de Gallo...don't get it in your eye-o!" We've gone to two of their live performances for children, which are great! If you want the feel of a children's concert, get their video "Go Fish." It has many of these same songs performed live on stage. I once got stopped for going 40 mph in a 30 mph zone. The policeman took one look at the photograph on my license and said, "Anyone who gets their picture taken wearing a Trout Fishing in America shirt can't be all bad." He did not give me a ticket! My kids were absolutely gleeful! Hey, you might say Trout Fishing got me off the HOOK!

5-0 out of 5 stars Twenty-two years later, a rediscovery.
In 1982, I lived in Austin, Texas. You know, that place. One night, dejected after my English girlfriend dumped me for an English guy (probably cousins), I aimlessly headed out for a few "I'm sorry for myself" beers. I went to a tavern I'd never set foot in before when I noticed a sign for a group called "Trout Fishing in America." I read the sign again, thinking to myself, "Trout Fishing in America?" I went in.

The first sign that the evening might develop into something memorable was when I bumped into a guy with long blond hair, heading for the stage holding a guitar. Nothing unusual there, except I was about eye level with his Adams apple, and I'm six feet four inches. Then another guy who appeared to be about two feet shorter than the blond guy headed for the stage. "Hm," I thought. I shoved my beer back to the bartender and ordered coffee. Something told me that I wanted to be wide awake for this one.

I could have skipped the coffee. What followed was a slowly developing evening of enchantment. The great musicianship and particularly involving harmonies of those two guys had the effect of grabbing me, shaking the hardness out of my heart, and not letting go until closing time. I left the establishment with nary a thought of my now-former girlfriend and her English cousin.

Over the years, I sometimes thought about those guys, but before the internet, thinking about them was about all it came to. Fast forward to this year. My wife comes home and announces that we've been invited to go with some friends and their kids to see "Trout Fishing in America" here in northern California.

I ended up wiping tears from my eyes at least a couple of times that evening: once when I realized those two guys still had the magic, and again when I saw that my three-year-old son was enjoying them just as much as me.

So now, my son no longer demands to hear the Crash Test Dummies when we travel in the car. No, "Big Trouble" is now number one on his request list. As for myself, I'm entirely happy to oblige.

5-0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS FUN!
My 18 month old twins get sooooo excited when they hear the very first dinosaur roar on track 1. They dance and clap and squeal and can't seem to get enough of Mommy stomping around and singing with the music....I know all the words -giggle!-. I even catch my hubby singing the songs to himself when the CD isn't even on! :0)Your kids will LOVE it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love these Fishermen!
I was first introduced to Trout Fishing in a bar when I was in college, and I LOVED them. I am so thrilled that they are still around and that they are still great. I love this CDs wry humor (I'm Gonna Be in Big Trouble) and the varied beats. These are two guys who totally remember what it was like to be a kid. My son (just 2) loves this CD and dances around the house with me when it's on. He really loves the gallumphing sound of When I Was a Dinosaur along with the dinosaur voices these guys have come up with. I love this CD and recommend it to anyone, but especially to anyone with kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this album even before I had children!
A friend introduced me to the music of Trout Fishing when I was a single law school student. This album immediately became my favorite, and I love it even more now that I have two boys with whom to share it! My husband had no idea what was in our CD player, but he was hooked by the end of the first song. Everyone I have shared it with buys a copy. The music captures the essence of childhood and the every-day things children think and say. A friend with a child who hated her after-school day care was able to eliminate the tantrums by having her listen to "Day Care Blues." Most children's comments trigger a lyric for me. All the songs are great, but I especially love "I think I'll Need a Band-Aid" (it makes me laugh) and "Lullaby" (it makes me cry). Who cares if you don't have children; you'll love it anyway! ... If you never thought you'd want to be 11 again, Lizzie McGuire: Total Party might change your mind. This is the best girl-targeted CD to come around in a while--as spunky and dippy as Lizzie herself. Your 8-to-12-year-old won't want to miss it, not only for the songs but for the fun inter-track patter. Lizzie gets her party started with the Radio Disney edit of Pink's hit, and celebrates girlhood with "Ladies Night" (covered by Atomic Kitten and featuring Kool & the Gang), No Secrets' edgy "That's What Girls Do," and Triple Image's inventive "Hey Now (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun)." What makes this party total is not pizza--that's the only thing that's missing--but three karaoke tracks tacked to the end. Expect repeated choruses of "I Can't Wait" to ring out, and to find your divas-in-training taking turns at the make-believe mike into the wee hours. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

More than any children's music release this year, Justin Roberts's Way Out makes you want to buy multiple copies and pass them out to friends--if only to prove that children's music can be unaccountably great. Justin's gift for transplanting himself into the psyche of an 8-year-old lifts him head and shoulders above his goofy-voiced peers. However, simply pinning Justin's talent on songwriting alone sells him short--few others (Dan Zanes, Ralph Covert and They Might Be Giants are exceptions) rock their records as hard. Way Out draws us way in, expertly mowing down musical age barriers and delivering us from the mistaken idea that kidstuff doesn't count. -Tammy La Gorce ... Read more
