5-0 out of 5 stars This is an awesome CD by an awesome singer!
This is my first Art Garfunkel solo album, and I absolutey love it! The songs are so precious. "Lasso the Moon" is a beautiful song. It puts me to sleep every time. "Good Luck Charm" sung by Art's 6 year old son, James, is really cool. He really did an outstanding job! Kids will get a kick out of hearing him sing. "Morning Has Broken" is beautiful, too. It gives praise to the Lord for all the things the morning brings. This CD, in my opinion, is Art's best. Thank you, Art! God bless you!

5-0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyable CD
I really enjoyed this CD, as did my 7yo son and 4yo daughter. The song "The things handed down" is especially beautiful. I also really enjoyed the duet w/ his young son, "Good luck charm." It is not only well done and sweet, but my kids really like the fact that a child helped make the CD. Many of the other songs are re-makes of favorite classics that are beautifully sung. You can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super!
This album is the first solo Art Garfunkel CD I purchased. It is a wonderful idea, a collection for kids. Featuring his son was a neat idea. My seven year-old son loved this record.
Art is one of the all-time greats. I also like his website, which features the books he has read and many other interesting tidbits.

I understand Art has also written poetry for publication.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Baby and I Love It!
My one-month old baby and I both love this CD. I play it in his nursery during his 3 am feedings and it never fails to lull him back to sleep. Art's voice is beautiful and the arrangement of the tunes is excellent. We can't recommend it strongly enough....BUY IT, you'll love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful CD! A labor of love from Art to his son James...
I have been an Art Garfunkel fan from the beginning and this CD is so beautiful I get a lump in my throat every time I listen to it. One can really feel the love Art has for his son as one tune leads into another."Dreamland"is a beautiful lullabye that will really tug at your heartstrings. The same can be said for "Lasso The Moon" in which Art tells his son "if I had a lariot made of dreams come true,I would lasso the moon for you..." Sung as only Art Garfunkel can sing them, this CD will really win you over especially if you are already an Artie addict like me! You will really get a kick out of hearing James himself singing lead on Elvis'"Good Luck Charm" with a very Elvis-like Artie doing vocal backing. A great CD that will really give you a warm feeling. ... Read more

Amazon.com essential recording

Woody Guthrie offered some sage advice in his liner notes to this collection of children's tunes. "Don't just buy this record and take it home so your kids can listen to it while you go off and do something else," the legendary folksinger counsels. Folk-music fans won't find it difficult to follow those directions. First released in 1956, Songs to Grown On, with its infectious spirit, is likely to prove irresistible to mom, pop, and 4- to 6-year-old tot alike. The likes of "Grassy Grass Grass," "Swimmy Swim," and "Wash-y Wash Wash" (detecting a trend here?) are as spontaneous and nonsensical as baby babble, and almost as delightful. So do as Woody suggested: pull up a chair and a kid or two and enjoy. --Steven Stolder ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Aptly Titled -- Easy and Fun to Sing
"Songs to Grow on for Mother and Child" is aptly titled. The first listen disappointed me sorely. The second pass through wasn't much more satisfying. Now, I love it.

Sometime between "Did I waste my money?" and now, I crossed the barrier to "Hey, hey, hey/Little Sack of Sugar/Ho! Ho! Ho!/Little sack of sweet." At first you will tolerate the songs, but in time, you'll catch yourself, as I have, humming the tune, mumbling the lyrics under your breath. Other songs, like "Swimmy Swim" will sneak into your heart. So will "I want My Milk (I Want it Now)."

Woody Guthrie's relaxed rural voice does his songs justice. These aren't "This Land is My Land" songs with the flavor of patriotic pride. These are children's songs with a folk-tint. Guthrie set out to write children's songs and accomplished that. They sound as if Woody himself took a recorder out to his porch some sunny Saturday and sang to his own children.

Fans of "The Wheel on the Bus" will love the repeating lyrics, and the simple music behind the songs. In fact, in many of the songs, like "I'll Eat You, Ill Drink You" have only a soft drum. It could just as well be a cardboard box he is strumming. Any parent will find singing these as afternoon a cappella playtime songs comfortable.

I fully recommend "Songs to Grow on for Mother and Child."

5-0 out of 5 stars Heirloom Quality - It's a Keeper!
I grew up with this album, and have long wished I could get another copy - am I ever glad to see it back! I loved these songs as a child, and still remember them after 30+ years! They're fun to sing to, and even the youngest kids can pick up on their words and sing-song melodies, while they also remain fun for adults, time and time again. Not dated at all - they're absolutely timeless. And great for road trips! I can't wait to share these songs with my kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just for 4-6 year olds!
I was looking for fun songs to sing with my 7 month old, and was tired of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I igonored the "4-6 year old" recommendation on this, and I am so glad! My baby loves to listen to this, and we dance and sing along. The songs are easy to learn and fun to sing, with a beat that he can bounce to. When we dance to "I want my bottle" he laughs and laughs! I totally recommend this!

5-0 out of 5 stars a long lost treasure
my children are 23 and 25 years old now. when they were wee ones, i used to dance them around the room to THIS ALBUM! somehow, along the way, it disappeared into the ether. now i have found it just in time to send to my 1-year old nephew. throughout these past 20 years or so, my husband and i have often burst out singing "swim, swim, swimmy, i swim" while in the shower or other appropriately wet places. these tunes stay with you for life! i'm getting my saka sugar a copy of this for our 32nd anniversary!

5-0 out of 5 stars Speaks to children with out speaking DOWN to them!
This album is beautiful as well as extremely entertaining! Enough plastic barney garbage already. Why prepare you kids to be the mindless candy eating morons disney craves as viewers! Give them something of sincere quality. This is a spontanious and light hearted music that is enjoyable by all! Finally an album I don't mind playing 100 times a day! ... Read more

CD in Excellent condition. Music played gret. Just as I expected.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gift Giver
I have watched my video of this concert over 50 times with my kids and I stll cry at 3 of the songs. I want it on DVD so I can give it to every parent I know. Those of you with the CD are missing 1/2 the joy of this show. The footage of comic storytelling through music, fun instruments, and families hugging and singing together is priceless. I would pay three times as much if I could only find it in DVD format.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Still is One of the Best
My 37 year old daughter and her husband are having their first child - a girl. My daughter requested this CD because she remembers me singing these songs to her when she was little. What better tribute could Peter, Paul, and Mary have?

5-0 out of 5 stars A great show & great music for people of all ages
This disc/casette and VHS was originally intended for children. It was recorded live in front of some school children for the Little Red School House in NYC. The younger audience keeps the whole thing lively and entertaining. However, it's music everyone can enjoy, not just kids.

The music format is part folk, part kids, and all fun. The children's music (Puff the Magic Dragon, The Fox, and Right Field) put Peter, Paul, & Mary on the kids'level. On the other hand, songs like Home on the Range and We shall overcome introduce the children to the whole folk music scene.

My only complaint is this. The disc is oever 70 minutes long, which is good. But, the video is 90 minutes long. I wish the disc had a few more songs that are on the video edition. This complaint is only a minor one. I think this live performance will bring out the kid in you, no matter how old you are.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I originally bought the video of this for my mother. Now it is my 7 yr. olds favorite video. She knows all the songs and we sing and dance whenever it is on. I am getting the CD to listen too when we are in the car. It is the favorite of 3 generations in my family! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Hysterical!
Okay, this is about the funniest cd I've ever heard. I particularly like "Oh where is my hairbrush." However, since there is a bunch of talking in this cd, it may not be as much for toddlers as something else like the Wiggles. It doesn't hold the attention of my toddler, even though he LOVES watching veggie tales videos. If you've had a very bad day at work, just pop in this cd and boy, do things of this world fade away in laughter!

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST CHILDREN'S CD
We received the Silliest Songs Countdown Video as a gift and loved it so much we had to buy the CD for the car. We love the songs almost as much as our 2-year old. We play them all the time. Our friends (with or without children) who hear the songs usually buy or download the music b/c they like it so much.

Although Veggie Tales usually have Christian messages, these songs are applicable to anyone of any race or religion.

I recommend this for anyone with kids looking for some new fun music. It is definately not your 'typical' children's CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not ashamed to sing along....
I bought this CD with reservation as it was our first children's musical purchase. I hate to admit that I love the songs almost more than my 20m daughter. We both enjoy this CD during our shared commute and I can't wait to find more like it!

Silly songs is right, but they're tolerable for adults too. If only I could get them out of my head....

5-0 out of 5 stars Silly Songs With Larry
I am 31 years old and, unabashadly, love this cd. I first heard this cd from a friend's four year old daughter, and I absolutely loved it. The tunes are great and fun to sing along to. Having no children of my own, I still felt compelled to buy this cd just to make me laugh. I highly recommend this for anyone from the ages of 2 to 102.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gratiutous Humor
The video version of this hooked me, but I couldn't play a video in my car.

Unashamedly from Christian starting point, the Veggie Tales guys collected a bunch of ridiculous 'silly songs'. By no means is this a complete set, but it could be a good primer, along with "Veggie Tunes."

These are the songs which enamored fans worldwide, the ones who flocked to see Jonah. For those who didn't 'get' why Larry and and the gang are so instantly popular, they'll discover there has been nothing instant about the success. They've been around for years, hiding undercover in the open.

Heard the song "The Pirates Who Don't do Anything"? Here is the original. Its sociology commentary on those church members who are stuck to the pews is biting (or, at least, that's what I got out of it). For me, "I Love My Lips," set in part to the tune of the "William Tell Overture," is my favorite: completely goofy, and catchy.

The wit of "The Song of Cebu" and fun of "The Yodeling Veterarian Of The Alps" will show you why "Veggie Tales: Silly Songs With Larry" is commanding a deep following in high schools and colleges, as well as little kids.

I fully recommend "Veggie Tales: Silly Songs With Larry."

5-0 out of 5 stars Save big bucks w/the 5 disc set!
This CD is great. It has both old and new Disney classics. But...for a little more money you can get all these songs and about 80 more. The 5 disc set sold here at Amazon has 99 Disney classics and sells for about the price of 2 CDs. The 5 disc set includes songs such as Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah from the no-longer released Song of the South, songs from the theme parks like the Electric Light Parade theme, It's a Small World from the NY World's Fair...it has them all! Buying the CDs seperately you probably spend twice as much + shipping; save some money--the 5-CD set is the way to go.

3-0 out of 5 stars Love this with one 'dumb' reservation
My 2-year-old daughter absolutely loves this CD. Everytime we get in the car, she says, "Bert & Ernie" and then sings along with the lyrics. I admit, I like it too.

The reason I'm writing this review, though, is to let parents know that it has one part where the characters call Bert's game "Dumb." I'm sure my child will learn this word eventually, but I'd rather she didn't learn it from Bert & Ernie. I'm not sure what Sesame street people were thinking when writing this script. It's disappointing since the rest of the CD is so great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Didn't know how much I loved them until I got this album...
Ernie and Bert have some of the best music on Sesame Street, and this album is the place to find it. It not only includes the standards "Rubber Duckie" and "Doin the Pidgeon," but there are some terrific songs that were new to me: an incredible lullaby incorporating deep breathing; "Up Goes the Castle" and a fun song about asking for help; "Lonesome Joan." This CD should have a place in any Sesame Street fan's collection, be they 2 feet or 7 feet tall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for child AND parent!
My son has 4 Sesame Street albums; I'm a little sick of most of them by now, with the notable exception of Bert & Ernie's Greatest Hits. At 30 now, I grew up with many of these songs ("Rubber Duckie," "Imagination," and "Doin' the Pigeon," anyone?) and remember them with fondness. Today, I have a new appreciation for the clever lyrics and catchy tunes. I also love the newer songs, along with Bert's hysterical commentary on the track "Dance Myself to Sleep." ("Where did the sheep get tap shoes?") As counterpoint to the funny, zippy songs, there are some sweet and lovely slower songs such as "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon" and "Up Goes the Castle." All in all, it's an album I can listen to repeatedly. My 22-month-old son can sing along with most of the tunes, and often asks to "listen Ewnie." With an album like this, I'm happy to listen Ewnie, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love It!
I love it! I grew up listening to Ernie and Bert; and I must say that the opener, "Rubber Duckie" by Ernie is certainly a blast from the past! I also like "Clink Clank" and "The National Association of 'W' Lovers" by Bert, his opening lines to "Pat Pat Patty Pat", and "But I Like You" by Ernie and Bert -- but most of all, I find "Imagination" by Ernie and friends to be an especially pretty song. Grown-up Sesame Street fans, get this Bert and Ernie CD -- I'm sure you'll love it, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars My kids favorite, without a doubt!
My 2 year old AND my 6 year old both love these funny and fun songs. We've been playing this at bedtime for the last month and although there are some upbeat tunes, they segue into some quiet "nighty night" songs that usually get the job done. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Children to Actually Sing Along With
This CD allows children of all ages from 3 years old to 7 years old to actually have a slow enough pace to repeat what has been sung to them. You do not have to keep playing each line over & over in order for the children to be successful. I am a speech and language pathologist who usually has children who stick-out like a sore thumb in class productions because they cannot keep up with the others. With this CD, they do not have a problem. All children enjoy the songs and want to sing along. They imitate many different sounds that can build on their phonemic awareness, which in turns helps them listen and discriminate between sounds of the English language. This aids them in learning to put sounds together to talk better and read better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it now!
I listened to this record at Montessory School as a child and adored it! The songs are beautiful and Ella Jenkins is a phenominal entertainer. I still remember all of the words and love sharing it with my 15-month-old. This is a fabulous CD (all of hers are) and I cannot recommend it enough. It is one of the few CD's for children that you won't get sick of hearing as a parent. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds new again
After working with Ella Jenkins music for many years, (still using the original vinyl records) I moved to a new school with absolutely no resources. After spending days looking around I decided to buy an assortment of Ella's CD's, we have just had the most marvelous year, her music today is as fresh now as when first recorded, everyone at my new school was astounded with how much fun and success we had, my five year olds put on the most amazing music concert, with one conducting and the others divided into groups, playing numerous instruments and singing in rounds. Ella thanks for helping me give these children such a fun and sound foundation in music. Susan Fell, Melbourne Australia

5-0 out of 5 stars Hiyo!
My almost-two-year-old has a favorite song from this tape which he likes to hear about 300 times a day. He has made it his mission in life to inform everyone he knows of this song's existence, and he's even discovered that every car we pass on the street has a stereo which could theoretically be used to play the song, if he asks insistently enough. So I guess you could say he likes it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb!!!
The children in our Montessori classroom know this entire cd by heart! We went to see Ms. Jenkins live and they were thrilled to see her sing the songs they learned prior to our visit. The tempo, lyrics are just right for our 3-6 year olds! Please buy it, it is money well spent!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Warm And Inviting
This album found Olivia ending the 1980's, a newfound mother and a concerned environmentalist. The CD booklet is printed on recycled paper and includes excellent tips on becoming socially aware and responsible for the environment. Clearly, her priorities had changed as she was veering away from popular market. The record label were expecting a new rock album from her, yet she lobbied to create a collection of soft selections and lullibies for parents and children alike to enjoy together. It works! This makes for a pleasant and inviting listening experience. It brings her "back to basics" and reflects the adult comtemporary pop stylings she was singing in the early 1970's, way before she was getting "physical."

Olivia's voice has always worked better with simple, spare arrangements and this album is a beautiful reflection of actually how remarkable her crystalline voice is. Standouts include: "The Flower That Shattered The Stone," a track that John Denver included in his repetoire before his untimely passing. Her rendition of "Over The Rainbow" is simplistic and out of all of the versions of that song floating around, is not overblown or overly orchestrated. "Warm And Tender" is an ONJ original she penned for her daughter Chloe that shows her capabilites as a competent songwriter. Olivia also arranged the majority of the selections on the consummate collection.

She shines on every track from it's opener "Jenny Rebecca" to it's conclusion with her version of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "Reach Out For Me," the only commercial release, that is enveloped with soft and pleasant Olivia harmonies with a Brahms Lullaby Into and Reprise.

VH-1 embraced the project and aired a special of Olivia's trip to the rainforest, along with special video clips from the album. For those who like their music soft and sweet, this collection for you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely beautiful rendition of all songs.
Warm and Tender and Breathtaking would be a good title for this album. I close my eyes and Olivia sounds as though she is inside my head, singing to me. Especially "The Twelfth of Never". The quality of Olivia's voice, and the music of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra make this one of, if not the, best albums of Olivia's I have heard. Another truly great CD with a good mix of music styles is "Gaia".

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music, beautifully sung
I bought this CD for a friend, having heard Jenny Rebecca sung in a concert, and discovering that it was on the CD. Olivia's voice never sounded better. Her rendition of the folk song Rocking has been used in music classes for students who have to study this folk song.

You can't beat the interpretation of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Superb album for a reflective mood, or for putting the baby to sleep.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
This is my 2 year old's favorite CD. She goes to sleep listening to this beautiful album every night. Olivia Newton John has made such a sweet and soothing album in Warm and Tender. Her rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is just gorgeous.

1-0 out of 5 stars Snoozefest 1989
I admire Olivia for trying something different. However it must be said that the experience of falling pregnant and giving birth must have fried poor Liv's brains a bit if she ever thought an album of kid's lullabies would give her a massive chart hit.

Whatever small momentum her previous rock/pop epic 'The Rumour' gave her was completely thwarted by this dull, banal release. There are a couple of highlights, mainly the beautiful piano ballad 'The Flower That Shattered The Stone', Olivia's uplifting cover of 'Reach Out For Me' which should have been a big adult/contemporary hit, and her slow jazz / orchestral version of 'The Way You Look Tonight'. The title track is also quite lovely, and is the most 'pop' song on the album. Unfortunately, the overall effect of 'Warm And Tender' is horribly Disney.

In 1989 Olivia still had one of the best voices in pop music (and, for that matter, still does). Good intentions aside, it is embarrassing to hear her reduced to the status of a watery Barbra Streisand. Olivia's previous records were innovative and exciting, but this is one you can easily skip.

It gets one star simply because Olivia sounds divine as always. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My kids love it; good deal
This set isn't half as good as A Holly Jolly Christmas For Kids, also sold here at amazon, but it has its own virtues to deserve a five star from me.The children choir's and the recording quality are acceptable but not wonderful like A Holly Jolly Christmas For Kids. However, the three volumes are each over an hour long.Since my kids don't go to Sunday school, the list of hundred songs covers every Sunday school song I want them to learn. My 3 year old and 5 year old always want to listen to these CDs and don't seem to get tired of it no matter how many times they listen.I get tired of it but I just play them in their rooms so that I don't have to listen to it.It works out well, and definite a good deal for the money.A Holly Jolly Christmas For Kids, on the other hand, is delightful to listen to by both me and my kids. ... Description

The verse-defying, guitar-blasting J-Rock group the Pillows come roaring back with more sit-up-and-take-notice grooving beats and vocals on this second gem of a soundtrack to the ingeniously chaotic Fooly Cooly series. Musical collaborator Shinkichi Mitsumune (Utena, Love Hina, Sugar) spreads out more of his flavorful instrumentals to fuel the high dosage of anime insanity that inundates this quirky off-the-wall anime. This 17-track CD includes the vocal songs "Crazy Sunshine," "Blues Drive Monster," "White Ash," "LAST DINOSAUR" and "I think I can" along with five drama tracks. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disney Karaoke Vol.2 [KARAOKE]
Quite disappointed that there are no screen lyrics available. Although some say karaoke is merely singing the lyrics to the instrumental version of the song, modern day tapes and cd's *do* include the "CDG". Disney seems to fall behind the times. You're better off with a sing-along video -- at least then the kids might learn to read (or at least recognize words). My 4 & 2 year olds wouldn't know what to do with just the instrumental version, of 'true' karaoke. I do prefer vol2 over vol1 or vol3.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This CD has been given low marks because it's not a CD+G. That is mainly because it is not understood that once upon a time,
before CD's, karaoke was done on audio cassettes. Audio Cassettes did not have lyrics. People had to read off a sheet. People had to learn a song well. People still had fun. The same formula works on CD!

If you've ever bought any other karaoke CD's (esp. at this price range), most of the vocalists are mediocre at best, and the instrumentation ranges from barely acceptable to absolutely horrible MIDI Music.

Contrast this with the beautiful instrumentations and excellent guide vocalists on this CD and you have yourself a 5 star CD at about 1/3 the price and rivalling if not exceeding the quality of the top Quality Karaoke Brands.

The only minor irritant is that on the instrumental tracks, the melody line is played by an instrument (vs. normal karaoke where the melody line is left to the singer only). Minus 1 star for that.

So if you can't handle reading off a lyric's sheet and learning how to really sing the song, then this CD is not for you. But, If you are looking for top notch, well produced Disney Karaoke then you should definitely check out this CD.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible disapointment
I opend the CD filled with joy till it started; at the beginning I thought there should be some kind of mistake but no, there were no letters. Not even one word, we couldn't sing at all; we just had the letters printed in very tiny letters but no guide to sing.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT Karaoke
This is not true Karaoke--there are no onscreen graphics to accompany the songs. There are 10 songs with and without words. The songs with lyrics are not even by the original artists. They sound awful sung by some unknown singers. This is the biggest Disney rip-off yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Karaoke VS. CD+G
CD+G means TV lyrics, Karaoke means music without words..

this is one of the best Karaoke CDs I own ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My kids can't stay awake!!!,
We LOVE this CD! The music is so beautifully arranged. It is so incredibly peaceful that my kids can't keep their eyes open. We play it for naps and just before bed at night. The BEST thing is that I love the music, too!!!! It's not that annoying toy-music sound that you get with lots of lullaby CDs, it is actually instrumentals by orchestra. The blend from one song to the next song is seamless. There's even a tip sheet on how to use the CD to get your children to sleep better written by Elizabeth Pantley (the author of The No-Cry Sleep Solution.) Lullabies don't get any better than this! Absolutely beautiful music to fall asleep to. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great kids CD!
My daughter is 2 1/2 and she loves listening to this CD! She asks for it all the time. I have a copy in my car, and a copy in the house for her listening pleasure. I drive an hour to and from my parents house and it makes the trip enjoyable to her. She loves all the tunes because she's familiar with some of the Nick Jr. TV programs. The tunes are catchy, however, after listening to this CD for an hour at a time, I find that some of the songs stick in my head and drive me crazy for the rest of the day. But as far as my daughter is concerned, this is her favorite CD. As long as she's happy, I'm happy.

4-0 out of 5 stars FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!
As a parent, I think I enjoyed this cd more than my 3 year old daughter and one year old son! There are songs from almost every Nick Jr. show and my daughter loves to tell me which show each song is from. She dances to all of the songs and is learning the words now. My only complaint is with the Little Bill songs. The only ones on the cd are the opening and closing songs (pretty much the same). Little Bill sings so many cute songs - I just wish they were on the cd too! All in all, it's a great cd for home or in the car!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it! Absolutely, LOVE IT
I am not only speaking for myself; my 2, 3 and yes 11 year old (even though he won't admit it) love it as well! I think that not only is this CD fun, but also educational and inspirational. Inspiration you say about a NICK JR cd? YEP. I think it encourages kids to be artistic and different. It's great. What can I say. A 33 year old baby I am. Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and loves NICK JR.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get This Well-Kept Secret!
If you like even one show on Nick Jr., then there's something for you on this CD. There's tunes from "Blue's Clues" to "Kipper" and even fairly decent singing by Nick Jr.'s mascot, Face. This CD is classic Nick Jr., from before they changed the look and behavior of Face and ported many of their best programs over to Noggin.

The best thing about this album is the inclusion of some of the great songs that only show up maybe once or twice on your favorite Nick Jr. shows. Enjoyed the "Planet Song" from "Blue's Clues?" It's here. Adore Hamilton's "paper flowers" song from "Maggie and the Fercious Beast?" It's on here, along with his singing about his box to boot.

The only oversight that I can think of is not including more of the instrumental only closing themes from some of those shows. Otherwise, everything is top-notch.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Absolute Best Children's CD ever!
My husband picked up this CD for our daughter because he recognized Dora and Blue as her favorites. From start to finish, this CD is the only thing that can keep my daughter calm and happy when we strap her in her car seat. She is only 18 months old, but listening to the CD has helped her learn part of the alphabet, some counting, and several words in her vocabulary. The songs are lively and fun. I never get sick of listening to it -- and believe me, I listen to it A LOT, per my daughter's demands. This CD is a must-have for any parent of young children. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best cd you can get your children
With all the violent tv, video games and music- finding something wholesome and decent for your young children can be really tough. I grew up listening to these songs and am now buying it for my own. He wrote wonderfly imaginative music that will stimulate your childs mind. They will laugh and sing along with the songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars ¡Fabuloso!
Como maestra bilingüe de Kindergarten, lo recomiendo. Es un clásico, y los niños se divierten mucho escuchándolo.Me gustan las canciones que son cuentos al mismo tiempo.

5-0 out of 5 stars El mejor regalo para mi y para mi bebe

4-0 out of 5 stars My son loves this!!
My son is two and has loved the Wiggles since he was four months old. The songs are fun to dance to and have some educational background to them as well (check out the video, too). I am a kindergarten teacher and have used tracks in the classroom to teach letter sounds (Di Dicki Do Dum) and blends as well as poetry timing. I am very pleased!

3-0 out of 5 stars Wish I had bought a different Wiggles CD
My daughter loves the Wiggles Yummy Yummy CD, so after reading some good reviews on Dance Party I decided to buy it. This CD is a lot more annoying than Yummy Yummy - some songs actually make me cringe. My daughter likes the CD, but it is not one of her favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rockin' your child will never be the same....
This album is the only sanity parents of toddlers seem to have when choosing music for their children. It's great in the car and even funner in the living room for dancing. "Doing the Flap" is a great favorite with my son and even "Wags the Dog" is a huge hit with the 12 and 10 year old. When it comes to kid's music, this one ROCKS -- without rolling you over with old cliches and music that dulls vs stimulate those creative juices ... Read more

All aboard! For kids with a yen to travel farther than over the hill and through the woods to grandmother's house, Papa's Dream is a welcome invitation. Narrator Papa Lalo, Chicano rockers Los Lobos, and a passel of grandkids pile into a Mexico-bound flying balloon in celebration of the grandfather's birthday. Tots, tykes, and preteens will delight in the adventures of this flying family, and even moms and dads will appreciate the muscular feel-good rock of Los Lobos as they bop through contemporary stalwarts "La Bamba" and "Wooly Bully," as well as a handful of traditional Mexican folk tunes. --Paige La Grone ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lalo Guerrero takes Los Lobos and Los Cenzontles on a trip!
Lalo Guerrero, the grandfather of contemporary Chicano music is "Papa Lalo," who wants to go home to Mexico for the first time in 60 years for a grand celebration for his 80th birthday. He brings along his children and grandchildren, the former turning out to be Los Lobos. "Papa's Dream" alternates between Papa Lalo's narration of this grand adventures and the songs, which are sung mostly by Los Lobos but also by Los Cenzontles (the Mockingbirds), a youth group from San Pablo, California, and Guerrero himself. The CD starts off with a nicely stylized version of "La Bamba" and "Wooly Bully," in honor of Papa Lalo's Chicano blimp, shaped like a bull and held together with "wooly thread." I was wondering why these two songs started the album, but then it occurred to me that for most Americans they represent the most famous songs in Spanish in the history of rock 'n' roll; the fact that it is mainly the opening countdown of the latter that is not in English. There is a wide variety of Mexican folk songs, the lyrics to which are provided in the booklet in Spanish or English as the case may be. There is such a sense of joy to this entire experience and by the time it is over you will want Papa Lalo to take you along the next time he goes sailing away. "Papa's Dream" will introduce you to marvelous songs and I bet I will not be the only one who has never heard the authentic version of "Cielito Lindo," just the tacky commercial. There is also a traditional version of "La Bamba." This is simply one of those feel good albums you stumble across from time to time. The Music for Little People series is an absolutely top-notch series of CDs. I have been very impressed with not only the talented musicians they have have collected for these albums, but the creativity of these efforts as well, which seems to always combine great music with elements of the culture that will delight children and parental units alike.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Papa's Dream" - Los Lobos; Mama's Review
"Papa's Dream is a lively tale about a family that goes on a special trip. It is quite suitable for the classroom of the Beginning Level Learners of Spanish. Notice the accompanying audio CD or cassette, filled with entertaining music, as well as narration. This cassette or CD will be particularly useful for the teacher who may not be themselves fluent in Spanish.

This book and accompanying cassette or CD will enhance your students learning as they are entertained and educated in the Spanish language.

Great job - especially on the music!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
Los Lobos teams up with Lalo Guerrero to take children on an extraordinary adventure and musical tour. I don't know who has enjoyed this CD more -- my children or their parents! We've been trying to learn Spanish as a family, and this has been a wonderful, fun supplement to our language lessons. Some of the songs are in English, but many are in Spanish, and all the lyrics are helpfully printed in the liner notes.

3-0 out of 5 stars too much narrative
I found the story was too intrusive and sometimes contrived. The idea of Papa Lalo sewing his own hot air balloon was outrageous and that he did it using the hide of a wooly bully is just dumb. The story was too long and took up too much time between songs. I also didn't like that sometimes the story's narrative was overlaid onto the muscial tracks, not just in the beginning and end, but was right in the middle of the songs. I felt there was no escaping from the story. Other things bugged me such as sometimes calling it a blimp while the illustration and other description really is a hot air balloon; the two things are worlds apart. My dislike for the narrative is so bothersome to me that I can't even listen to the CD.

The music alone is great. I just wish the story was toned down (like the perfect balance in Choo Choo Boogaloo).

5-0 out of 5 stars great mornings!!!
With two small children in the house, happy mornings are the key! They love dancing to Papa Lalo after breakfast. It is such a wonderful story, besides great music. My oldest wants to have a pinata for her next birthday, and is working at learning the Pinata song... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughters LOVE this CD
We have had the tape of these songs for a few years, and have worn it out completely, so I was very happy to find it here. These, and even more so the More Silly Songs CD, are great for killing time in the car and for sing alongs. On our drives from Columbus GA to Atlanta, we would play these over and over and sing at the top of our lungs. Great memories...

5-0 out of 5 stars Disney's Silly Songs is Great
This is a terrific album. I've bought it dozen's of times & it is always a hit with young children who like its high energy and fun music. It has a good mix of both old favorites and new material.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mickey, Donald, Goofy and the gang sing some silly songs
The idea here is to tickle the ribs of little kids by putting together twenty of the world's wackiest songs and have Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and other Disney cartoon characters make their appearance throughout the album. For example, doing "Ta Ra Ra Boom De Ay!" Mickey and Goofy exchange some bad jokes. A few of the songs have actually appeared in Disney movies, such as "When I See an Elephant Fly" from "Dumbo," which is given a different interpretation by a "teacher." Some of the songs are sung by a group of kids, but most are done by adults singing solo, usually with vocal affectations (e.g., "Little Bunny Foo Foo"). If you little ones have never heard these songs, then "Silly Songs" is certainly one way of providing an introduction. Every kid should know the words to "I'm My Own Grandpaw," "A Peatnut Sat on a Railraod Track," "Three Little Fishies," "There's a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea" and the classic "Be Kind to Your Web-footed Friends" (with all due apologies to John Phillip Sousa--and do I really have to tell you who sings this one?). Parents should just look over the playlist and if you know these songs then your kids should too, and it is probably better if they learn then from this record then having to endure you teaching them "Boom, Boom, Ain't It Great to Be Crazy?" Besides, think how their jaws will drop when they find out you already know the words when they try to teach YOU.

5-0 out of 5 stars Childhood Favorite
I had this album on vinyl when I was little and I wore it out! This is a GREAT album for children; really works the imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stands the test of time
I taped this album off of vinyl from the college radio station where I spun tunes in 1988, and while I preferred much more rough-around-the-edges grunge music at the time, I had a soft spot for the whole album.

My tastes mellowed out in the following 15 years (just a bit) but still this cassette keeps coming out of the drawer year. The subtle, talented and completely original takes on the Disney movie songs manage to imprint the artists' vision while still retaining the original magic of the movies (you can picture in your mind a group of seven dwarves who all look like Tom Waits chanting Heigh-Ho). Then last year, I found myself singing "Blue Shadows" in the manner of Syd Straw and "Stay Awake" in the manner of Suzanne Vega as lullabies to my daughter at bedtime. This album stands the test of time, so of course I finally have to have it on CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Mouse never roared like this ...
Disney Music can sometimes seem a little too ... well ... Disney. Neat, catchy little tunes sung by voices that you just KNOW have never seen a zit in their lives. Subject matter that is trite at best, portraying characters so cute that they're almost embarrassing.

Embarrassing, because even at thirty years old, you still whistle Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah from "Song of the South" when you're happy.

Don't you?

Fear not, closet Disney-phile. This album takes all those songs from your favorite movies, and gives them an adult twist. This album will serve a two-fold purpose. First, you can get your fix of Disney anytime your middleaged-child heart desires. But most importantly, if you get "caught" by your friends, you can pass it off as serious music.

Whether a mere fresh coat of paint (as with "I Wanna Be Like You" from Jungle Book) to a slight sarcastic tone on old favorites (Sinead O'Conner singing "Someday My Prince Will Come" -- 'nuff said there!), to downright spooky versions of bettime songs (Suzanne Vega's acapella version of "Stay Awake"), to absolutely twisted rehashes of formerly tired standby's (Tom Waite rebuilds "Heigh Ho" in his own graven image), this album is a fantastic work. It not only transforms these scores into wonderful new pieces of art, but it also remains true to the basic spirit of Disney. Perhaps it is irreverent in places. Yes, it may even poke a little fun at our favorite childhood icon. But it is still a respectful tribute to the original artists who put these tunes in our heads in the first place.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't close your eyes
This album features various types of performers doing Disney songs. It is a pretty uneven album. Some of them are good, some of them are not so good. Different people will like different performances, depending on their taste. My favorites are by Tom Waits, Buster Poindexter, Aaron Neville, Sinead O'Conner, Sun Ra and Harry Nilsson. There were some performances I didn't really care for, but I won't mention what they are. One problem that I had with this CD is that many of the songs are connected together as "medleys". So that makes it hard to skip around and just listen to your favorite songs. You may have to sit through something you don't like to get to something you do like.

5-0 out of 5 stars Disney's dark side
One of the things that's easy to forget about the original wave of Disney films is that they were dark, both in terms of story elements and animation. Its been a long time since I was a little kid, but I can still vaguely remember being slightly creeped out by moments in those magical old films.

That's why this record was such a joy to me when I first discovered it (in a cut out bin in a supermarket checkout lane, believe it or not) a dozen years ago. It instantly became one of my favorite records, not for any individual performance, but for the overall mood which recalls the dark, dreamlike feel that permeated the films.

Not that the performances aren't great. Its hard to pick a favorite, although I've always had a soft spot for the Ken Nordine stuff, Syd Straw's take on Blue Shadows and, especially, Sun Ra's Arkestra cutting loose on "Pink Elephants on Parade." There's really not a weak one in the batch though. Ask me again tomorrow and I'd probably pick something else.

Its someone surprising to me that this is still in print. I can't imagine it selling much and its certainly not the good time nostalgia one might expect from such a compilation. At any rate, its well worth purchasing and will make an interesting addition for fans of the acts contained as well as the original wave of Disney films.

5-0 out of 5 stars A strange and wonderful little disc!
Seldom have I ever heard a more eclectic compilation album. I first came to know this disc in the early 90's thanks specifically to the Ken Nordine bit on track 11, and the Suzanne Vega bit on track 4; each of which got a fair amount of air time on "Variables" heard Sunday nights in Salt Lake City. Structurally, the 11-track disc actually contains many more pieces than one might first assume, as each track is usually composed of two or more sub-works, each blending into the next. Sometimes the blends work smoothly, other times they can be jarring. All in all you wouldn't believe this to be Disney unless you already knew some of the songs beforehand. Some of them, like the Tom Waits dwarf march, are almost the antithesis of Disney, which is appreciated. In addition to the Vega and Nordine standouts, I also adore part b of track 1, and track 2. But really, if the pool of your musical taste is wide, and you don't mind surprises, this is a gem of a disc that I highly recommend. ... Read more
