Great intro to Fat Possum's music: mix of delta blues & punk
This is Fat Possum's latest sampler. It features several obscure Delta artists, such as Cedell Davis from Pine Bluff, AR and Johnny Farmer. Davis' music is unique since he was crippled as a child by polio and plays slide with a butter knife. The sampler also features better known artists such as R.l. Burnside with his new "hip-hop" sound and the late great Mississippi juke joint proprioter Junior Kimbrough. The CD also includes Bob Log III and Twenty Miles. These guys are more akin to punk than they are to "real" blues, but they are young musicians harkening back to solid blues roots with a punk twist. Give Fat Possum a listen! ... Read more

Bargain Compilation Done Right!
Blues Guitar Duels is a pretty darn good compilation of excellent guitarist who have performed together on various recordings over the years. For example you get Buddy and Phil Guy performing one of the tracks from their joint CD, "DJ Play My Blues", Hubert Sumlin performing with Ronnie Earl on a cut from "Hubert Sumlin's Blues Party", Ronnie Earl and Duke Robillard on a track from the CD "Test of Time" and Guitar Shorty and Otis Grand from the CD "My Way On The Highway". One can certainly quibble over whether there are other tracks that could have been included on this disc or whether the tracks selected are the best from each duo but it would be a pointless debate. The facts are you get a very nice sampling of what these individuals have to offer and all for a bargain basement price. Check it out and then either explore these artists further or find another disc from the EasyDisc collection and enjoy the music. ... Read more

It looks alot better than it sounds
This album is a messy collection of live blues cuts. Many are simply terrible. It seems the producers were trying to find some crappy live cuts that no one wanted so they could throw together an album that looks like it's worth while. That said, there are a few highlights. Magic Sam, Son House, and John Mayall all have decent performances on this album. ... Read more
