2-0 out of 5 stars This CD was a big letdown
After having heard Big Daddy Multitude and Evildoers Beware I was extremely disappointed by this album. Mustard Plug wrote too many mediocre love songs for this album. Even their non-love songs like "Throw a Bomb" and "We're gunna take on the world" are nowhere nearly as good as any songs on Evildoers Beware. Unless you are total fanatic of Mustard Plug this album is not worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars One the best recent ska albums
I found out about Mustard Plug by mistake one day when I was in a record store and took a gamble in buying Pray For Mojo. I was lucky to have found my now favorite ska band. Everything about this album (and their Mustard Plug's others) is amazing. Great horns and bass, catchy lyrics, punchy guitars- all make this one a must-have.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre 3rd Wave Ska
Here's the lowdown: There's two really good songs on this album ("Send You Back", "Throw A Bomb") and the rest is passable filler.

4-0 out of 5 stars Skank till u drop
Midwest Madness. Thats all I have to say about mustard plug. This is a great ska band that can really turn out great tunes. This is a definately a harder version of the mighty mighty bosstones and others. great band. Lolita is a great song along with throw a bomb.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the Best the Midwest has to Offer
About seven years ago, I got dragged to the Reptile House, a little dive on the east side of Grand Rapids, MI, to hear a local band play. Little did I know that Mustard Plug would grow into the very mature band that they are today. I have since joined the military, and I travel the globe carrying cargo for the Air Force. I have found Mustard Plug albums in music shops in southern California, rural Georgia, Yokota, Frankfurt, London and Crete (of all places). This band seems to only get better with each album, and has gained a following world-wide. They are almost complete unknowns outside of Ska circles, but their influence in the realm of Ska is truly universal. To all fans of Less Than Jake, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the Mad Caddies and other great Ska bands, I highly recommend Mustard Plug. You will not be disappointed with the energy and thrill of hearing this band or better yet, seeing them live. Pick up "Evildoers Beware" also, if for no other reason than the "Beer Song" anthem that finally landed them on MTV. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fourth from the Last was the first CD i have ever gotten.
This was the first CD that I have gotten that is a group. I am a Christian and my family thinks that Christian Music is important. My parents let me listen to it, because it doesn't have anything bad in it. I do wish myself, that it did have my Christian songs in it though. The W's used to be my fav. group, but now as I get older, I think that I am looking for a group that has more Christian perspectives, that could be someone I looked up to! I am not sure if I should get Trouble with X, but for now, I think that I will because they are a great group, and until they start singing ablout bad stuff, I will continue to listen to them.

3-0 out of 5 stars The W's second album is good, nothing special.
The second release of the W's is a pretty good listen: some good beats and lyrics, but no really ear-catching choruses (i.e. you are the devil and the devil is bad...) I liked the renedition of the John Denver song "Take Me Home Country Roads" and "Stupid," "Used Car Salesman," and "Saturday". (As a student, I can sure relate!) I think I expected a little more from the band, but it's worth it to get the CD or at lest listen to it. Of course, I'm a little biased: the family of one of the W's lives on my block. But for wholesome swing bands, there's not much of a better choice than the W's on "Trouble With X".

1-0 out of 5 stars essentually not swing
The quality of the music on this and their other CD is very poor. It is highly repetetive and the lyrics do not fit the music. Swing is jazz (not some kind of alternative music like many think). And this can hardly be classified as jazz. As for swing-they have very little sense of it. The horns are out of tune and not blended. They are barely what I would call a CHRISTIAN band. They have few songs to prove themselves as that. If you are looking for good swing, go with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Royal Crown Review, or classis like Basey. If you want Christian Swing-there are other Christian Swing bands who have much more sense of music. Some of the music is OK, but it is hardly something I will invest my money in. Look somewhere else this time. They seem to want to swing punk and ska more than play TRUE swing. Swing sounds good when it is SWING. Mixing it with other forms tends to delute the music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Waitin' for the next album
This album was fantastic... I've listened to it over and over, I've memorized all the songs, I've even made believers out of some of my friends... people say it isn't good because "it's not Christian" Just because it isn't straight forward praise/worship doesn't mean it isn't christian... it just means you have to look a little deeper to understand the christian value... It's lyrics may not be as hit-you-in-the-face-christian like dctalk, Jars of Clay, and Sonicflood (which by the way are all also great bands), but it's still wholesome... definitely a great album, I can't wait for the next... FYI- if you happen to be a horn player, you can get horn tabs for lots of christian ska bands including the W's at chorntabs.tripod.com

5-0 out of 5 stars they get better and better
I think that the group has matured since Fourth From The Last ( the other cd). My favorite song is The Sillouette of Summer one( I don't remember the exact name). The playing is more complex, just as fun, and I would love to see them in concert. Their version of Country Road is great, and I hate country music! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE CLASH OF CHRISTIAN MUSIC!
The dingees are one of the best punk rock bands ever. They keep it interesting through combining traditional ska and reggae music. This CD is a must if you are a fan of rancid or the clash.

2-0 out of 5 stars Shouldabeenbetter
After a strong debut on BEC Recordings ("Armageddon Massive"), this Orange County-based ska-punk band had a path to follow. But rather than improving on the Ramones / Sublime / Sex Pistol-ish sound, this follow-up album just meanders all over boring. There's nothing new here, but that doesn't mean it's terrible; the last five songs are worth hearing, and the best five on the disc. If you want to know what the Dingees could do at a splendored young age, then I highly recommend the previous effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kewl
This is one of my fav. c.d.'s I was amazed that they could make such a good follow up to the other great album Armageddon Massive. There is punk, there is Ska, and Regae. Itz kewl cuz of the diversity weather itz the agressive hard core of Staff sgt. skrebka or the Acoustic ballad of You in my heart. I also like the energetic ska of Votes and Vilonce and Leave The Kids Alone, The Southern Cal Punk sounds Of Rally-o andChevy Malibu and Suns Down, and the Regae of Radio Freedom and Trial tribulation-heck they are all good.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE DINGEES ROCK THE SCENE...PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
This band has talent. They have blown away the undergrounds "punkrock" ears again with some great new songs...I did'nt think they could do it, but they did. These boys deserve way more respect then they actually get. If you ask me, they're on their way up, that's for damn sure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest rock band since the Clash!
Amazing songs, great diversity, powerful production and vocals. A refreshing change from the MTV and "alternative" pop hits. "Sundown to Midnight" can hold its weight against any and every rock/reggae influenced alblum. These guys are amazing on and off stage. Do yourself a favor and buy the new record. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SWEEET
AAA ROCKS!! This cd is a little slower than DWDY, but that just helps you hear their message more. All Fall Down is one of their best songs. The thing about AAA is all their albums are completely different. Destroy What Destroys You is insanely fast ska/punk, All Fall Down, is mostly punk with horn parts thrown in and a tad slower. And the newest one, 24 Hour Roadside Resistance, has a lot of different sounds to it, but overall it sounds much harder. Danny Lore's voice is a little harsher. But that rules. Check out all their albums, they are all amazing. Peace.

5-0 out of 5 stars My personal Fav. CD by them.
Well if you like Operation Ivy, Smiley Kids, and Anti-Flag, then chances are you'll love this as well. This is political ska great if your a fan of propagandhi! also if you like ska-core and ska. Worth every penny. -(AAA)- are not posers!!! I'm so sick of you jerks telling us what to listen to and what not to listen to. You ask me I'd say you're the poseurs and not us. Face it, the Sex Pistols and The Ramones are gone, and we'll never have old school back, so shut up and just deal with it! These guys are awesome and ever track is amazing. I say buy it now!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS CD ROCKS HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great skacore!
I'm not a very big skacore fan, but I absolutely love Link 80. This CD stands out from my collection of mostly ska/poppunk. This whole CD is great, The vocals are amazing, Nick had such a great voice, he can go from like hardcorish shouting to sorta soft singing. "Nowhere Fast" is probably my favorite song on this CD, but the whole thing is great, buy it! Also get "Killing Katie", It's a bit less hardcore, more ska, but anything Link 80 is amazing. RIP Nick.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most likely the best ska band ever
I can't not begin to tell you how good this is. There is so much energy so much range in this cd that it will drive you mad, this is hands down the best ska record ever. It's great even the lyrics are pretty good (one of the biggest complaints I have about ska even though I do love it) it is about growing up hangin' out you know the drill. 17 great songs who could ask for more? The vocals are great I like Nic's voice a lot it has good range he goes from normal singing to screaming (not like SCREAMING actually more like yelling) and the music is steady you know it doesn't go fast/slow/fast/slow it usually stays steady you know like mid/fast/fast/mid/slow/fast something like that if you get my drift. Favorite songs, dance floor, Pretty Girls (my very favorite), Dimestore Hoods, Verbal Klint, Jeff Acre F!ed his Truck up. I love this album buy it and sing along.

5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy Good
Link 80 is incredible. They combine intense punk rock with horns and ska melodies, and also a very thrash and an almost heavy metal sound. Definitely one of the best skacore bands ever, these guys are an amazing example of their genre. If you are interested in hearing skacore or if you are a fan of any form of punk rock this cd will not dissapoint. This is the kind of CD that can be appreciated by all kinds of people from a variety of musical preferences. Catchy yet unforgivingly fast and brutal. Op Ivy fans check these guys out! "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."

5-0 out of 5 stars Just plain Incredible
Link 80 has to be one of the greatest ska-core or ska-punk bands the world has ever seen, and this album sure proves it. 17 songs filled with energy, gritty vocals, fast paced drumming, furious guitar riffs and great horn lines. If you have never heard this band and have been wanting to check them out, I highly reccomend this. If youre a ska-punk fan or are willing to try out some harder edged ska, pick this up. If you are a fan of punk and ska in general, I say that this belongs in your CD collection. My favorites include Verbal Kint, Nothing Left, Preety Girls, What Can I do, Dimestore Hoods, Nowhere Fast, and Jenifers Cafe, but hell, all these songs are great. GET IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars ---LINK 8 0 IS GREAT---
"17 reasons" is an awesome album by link. A great punk/ska sound with good vocals/lyrics. My favorite song on this album is the first track "Verbal Kint". It's one of my favorite songs of all time! Every song on this album is pretty good. I recommend this to people who like fast paced punk/ska. |LiNk8o| ... Read more

The idea of two punk giants fighting it out in the studio was born on the hallowed 7-inch single, but these two summer-tour veterans and Epitaph labelmates have brought it to the modern age on the third installment of BYO's Split Series. Berkeley, California's Rancid bring attitude and tradition to the bill. Old-school oafs NOFX bring humor and frontman Fat Mike, a veritable underground punk legend and karaoke king. Like a medical experiment gone so wrong it's right, together they take on six of each other's songs and the results are riveting--whether it's Rancid mowing through mosh-pit standards like "Moron Brothers" and "Stickin' in My Eye," or NOFX finding the funny side of the cod-reggae Clash tribute "Radio" and triumphantly thrashing "Corazon de Oro." --Aidin Vaziri ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but overrated
Ok, I admit this album was a great idea. Rancid and Nofx are two of the best punk bands on the planet. But from the things I heard about this I figured it would be like the best cd recorded of all time. There are only two songs I would listen to more than once. Nofx did a good job on Olympia WA, and Rancid did a good job on The Brews. I would be giving this 3 stars but since I love both these bands so much I had to bump it up one star. But this album is good only for hardcore fans of either or both artists, buy Rancid-And out come the wolves, or NOFX-Punk in Drublic to hear the best stuff they got.

4-0 out of 5 stars This CD kicks [behind]
I would have chosen a 4.5 if possible. I give the NOFX half a 5 and the Rancid half a 4. I actually like rancid a lot more than NOFX but on this particular performance NOFX was a little more solid.
This album was great because the two bands contrast so much. The vocals have a completly different sound. NOFX improves the drumming on a lot of the Rancid songs, but Rancid spifs up all the NOFX covers with Matts mind blowing bass lines.
NOFX covers of I'm the One and Tenderloin were amaizing and in my opinion Corozon De Oro is better than the original, it sounds like a NOFX song when they do it. Radio is hilarious, while the drumming on Olympia makes the song amazing Fat Mikes vocals just dont really work for it...he sounds bored.
Rancid cover of Somthing Stickin in my eye is amazing simply for the bassline, the vocal suprising sound similar to the original though, vanilla sex is awsome!, i like it just as much as the original! The moron bros for some reason just didnt really do it for me. Bob is amazing although i was extremely dissapointed that tim did not attempt the "shooby do bo bop" ending, probably the best song they did though. The brew I thought was good but to fast, i thought speeding it up almost made it loose some energy. Dont call me white although one of my favorite NOFX songs the Rancid version was terrible. I like Matt Freeman but his voice just didnt work for this song. He sounded like a drunken lounge singer!
This Album is highly recomended for any punk rocker. Two a mazing bands!

4-0 out of 5 stars 2 great bands
usually when someone rewrites the classics it is pure sh**. but when rancid/nofx does it is killer. the best was
nofx-Olympia,WA
rancid-bob
these 2 songs are actually better than the original versions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent job especially Rancid...
I happen to be a bigger fan of NOFX than I am of Racid, but I've got to tip my hat to Rancid because I think they did a better job.

I thought that NOFX could've chose better Rancid songs to cover, but their version of Olympia WA was almost better than the original.

Now Rancid chose some great songs and did them well. Their versions of Don't Call Me White and Brews is excellent and their version of Vanilla Sex is classic.

Don't pass this one by. It's more than a novelty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome.
Awesome is the only word you need for this cd. Two great bands coming together to cover some of each others songs. Totally worth the money. Go get it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars DHC Live: What a Live Record Should Be.
If you're a Dance Hall Crashers fan this will be a slice of heaven. If you're new to them... well,it'll still be a slice of heaven but an informative one, because this record samples all of the DHC albums, giving the listener a good taste of past and present.Since many of the songs are edgier and faster than the studio tracks at times (most of the time actually) I enjoyed them even more than the studio recordings. The occasional short exchanges between the extraordinary vocalists Karina and Elyse are quiet funny and to the point.I'd point out standout tracks but all 25 from the fast 'We Owe' to slow and moving 'Cricket' are great. This is the best live record I've heard and it should be in any ska/punk-pop fans collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dance Hall Crashers... What else is there to say??
This CD proves that even after 11 years in the recording industry, DHC STILL is alive and rockin'! This happens to be my favorite DHC CD because of the fact that it features songs from ALL of there wicked albums (which I encourage you to buy if you don't have them already). The Live Record makes you feel as though you're at the concert, screaming and rockin' out with all the other fans! This is a MUST HAVE CD for any ska/pop/punk fan! So why are you still reading this??? Go and get this amazing record right now!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a great beginner's CD
This is my first intro to DHC. I am a big fan of groups with intelligent or interesting lyrics (TMBG, Barenaked Ladies, Nerfherder) and used the Amazon recommendation to look into them. I figured this would hit their better songs and let me decide if I want to pursue them further.

The problem with a live album is that it is harder to understand the lyrics so I am not sure if I would like a studio album since I am such a lyrics fan. They seem like a fun band with lots of energy and would be a good live show. However, I don't like how they drop the F-bomb a lot.

Overall, it is likely a very good album for DHC fans but maybe not a good starter's album.

5-0 out of 5 stars wow...just wow
To anyone reading this review, BUY THIS CD! I bought it after not knowing many DHC songs and it knocked me off of my feet. The CD was instantly on the list as one of my all time favorite CD's. There isn't one song on here not worth listening to. Trust me, it's the kind of CD you listen to in your car and decide to keep driving around, just so you can keep listening to..alright maybe I'm the only one that happened to, but trust me, there is not one song on here that you won't want to listen to. SO BUY IT ALREADY!

4-0 out of 5 stars Better Live than recorded, best DHC CD
If you're only going to own one DHC CD, it should be this one. It is a bit of a greatest hit compilation (though I miss Pick Up Lines and Setting Sun and some others) and many of the songs are better than on the studio recordings. I'll probably never get to see them live, but obviously they are meant to be heard that way.

If you can sit still through this CD, then something is wrong, because its mostly fast with many great lyrics.

Word of caution: DHC and the Ska sound is not everyone's cup of tea. But that is their loss.

Enjoy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest albums on earth!!!!!!
The Chinkees have and always will be one of my all time favorite ska bands, well one of the greatest bands period no matter the genre. This album is by far as good as The Chinkees "are coming", this c.d. along with all of any of Mike Parks bands(skankin pickle and the b. lee band, and this fall his solo project :)) is full of great lyrics to sing along with and skank to....But best of all they imform the listener about the racial problems we face in this world. And yes racism is a major major problem, there is nobody better to express this than Mike Park himself....Now to the c.d. it is a fun and exciting experience and being a big ska fan and fan of Mike Park for a long time could not have expected better :)

4-0 out of 5 stars I Don't Even Like Ska!
I'm confused. On a whole ska terrifies me and ska/punk/core is usually even worse, yet I LOVE this record. Much like OpIvy these guys seem to some how transcend the genres/stereotypes and just get inside your head. Not to say this sounds anything like OpIvy or will have anywhere near that kinda impact but they are a good reference point for the Chinkees. As far as an actual review I would call them politically aware, upbeat, pop-punk oriented ska. They make you feel good while hopefully helping inform the kids about the ever present problems of racism/poverty. I don't know enough about the band to gauge thier sincererity but if they do indeed practice what they preach then they are almost to good to be true.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mike Park once again rules!
The Chinkees' latest album thoroughly deserves 5 stars. Amidst the aftermath of the ska/punk revival and skate punk emergence, the Chinkees are a ska band with a mission... educate and make people aware of racism. Mike Park, former singer and saxophonist for the monumental ska/punk band Skankin' Pickle, emerges from his experimentation to once again dominate this genre. The Chinkees, formed to educate others and deal with racism through music have created a political, yet catchy and poppy album. While bands such as Blink 182 rely on toilet humor to capture audiences, Mike Park utilizes incredibly deep lyrics and a message of peace and unity to draw in questioning listeners. And while the poetic lyrics are enough to justify purchasing this album, the organ played by Richard Morin is perhaps the icing on this catchy pop rock cake. The album encounters many shifts of focus along its way. Park has strategically ordered the tracks in such a way that listeners can encounter the very thoughts that flow through him. The album begins with Park's concerns about his ailing father which leads to a perfect segue way about the racism and struggles that his father has endured in both Korea and the US. The focus on his father eventually ends upon the track "Ultraman," which is an forthright cry about his father condition. With lyrics such as, "my ultraman has fallen down, his light is flashing on the ground," listeners can sense the emotion that Park is going through. After that track, Park begins a series of songs that serve as social commentary in response to poverty, ignorance, and once again education before ending on a pure pop acoustic song entitled "Will I Have a Chance." Despite the seeming dreary subject matter, Park unleashes an array of catchy melodies designed to make listeners sing along. But in the end, the subject matter and message that the Chinkees bring once again prevail to forge an album that thrusts racism and bigotry into a position no longer ignored. Peace Through Music rightfully deserves and earns 5 stars. In a musical era of crassness, superficiality and sexuality, the Chinkees have produced a sing along album that inspires, educates and brings hope to a cause thoroughly worth fighting for...

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the Same 'ol Fishbone but Good Enough!
With the departure of several of the original band members, the bright future of this legendary band is firmly placed well behind them. To borrow one of their song titles, 'Those Days Are Gone'. However, there's certainly enough here in this latest brew for the diehard Fishbone soldier to sip on. For the Fishneophyte, the first four or five albums are listening prerequisites to appreciate the mozaical musical style, frenetic energy and good wholesome humor of this album. 'Live at the Temple Bar' also makes up for the lackluster 2000 release, 'Fishbone and Friends' which contained no Fishbone and no Friends with it suppressive corporate production sound.

Like each one of their previous albums 'Temple Bar' requires several listens then you're hopelessly hooked. Without the mellifluous influence of some of the departed band members, at times some of the songs are a bit too discordant and because it's a live production, are a bit too gritty, but it's still Fishbone. Encapsulating the band in their natural element, the live show, each song is an awe-inspiring example of magisterial musical artistry and showmanship

What's also remarkable about this collection of songs is that once you get past the wrinkles and tattoo (which suspiciously appears to be covering a bald spot) in the picture on the backside of the CD of the lead singer's devilishly grinning visage, you realize that this 20+ year old rock band is creating new music that is as youthful as ever. With time, bands tend to produce a more contemplative sound in contrast from their earlier work, however, with song titles like 'Skank 'N Go Nutts', Fishbone thankfully shows no signs of growing up.

A poignant moment on the CD comes at the very end of the last song when the audience fades off chanting in unison, 'Fishbone is Red Hot'. This not only reveals the love and admiration fans have for this talented group but also the signature of a band whose audience is hungrily caught in the afterglow of a magical and intimate moment.

'Live at the Temple Bar and More' with Fishbone's typical rockjazzfunkpunksoulthrashskaetc sound, is only for the adventurous music listener. Tap into it and enjoy a band doing what they were meant to do. Have fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fishbone kicks! VERSATILITY and virtuosity in tact live!!!!!
Sknk n go nutts! If you like fishbone and don't have this cd, go get it! It is my favorite cd i've listened to this month! I can't wait to hear their next cd. Personally like it better than any of their other cds (I HAVE ALL OF THEM)! It reminds me of bad brains and (classic)red hot chili peppers mixed together. with reggae/ska/thrash/and funk mixed in. 'There is a demon in me & he smiles at me' is my favorite track, hopefully a studio version is also in the works of all these songs!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE GREATEST LIVE ALBUM IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND!!!
I'm not joking or being sarcastic. I don't work for the band or the label. I love a wide variety of music, from Bach to Bebop to Beatles to Bad Brains. I have no personal gain here. But all things considered: all-new material which is as strong (or stronger) than anything they've done in the past, outstanding (even stunning) production quality, and nailed-to-the-floor performances all the way around by each band member (especially the new guys) -- this album just leaves every other live album in its wake/dust. PERIOD.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fishbone??
I'm glad Norwood, Angelo and Walter are still playing live shows. They are fun to watch and are truly talented. Unfortunately, without the rest of the original line-up, they don't really compare to the Fishbone I once knew and loved. It's sad that they are playing at heavy metal dives nowadays but go check them out if you want to have fun. Or just buy their first four albums and listen to them at home.

5-0 out of 5 stars The 'Bone is Back and Stronger Than Ever!!!
There's not much I can add to the previous reviews, but I just had to chime in here to say how [blankety-blank] awesome this new CD is. When the various members of Fishbone began falling off I began to worry. When (drummer) Fish left, I became despondent, fearing that that would be the last straw. MAN O MAN -- now I know I had nothing to worry about! (Foolish Earthling!). This band is the strongest lineup ever; drummer John Steward and guitarist Spacey-T really take the 'Bone to a new, higher, even more intense and cosmic level. On the previous (Hollywood) album they were good, but obviously holding back, just gettin' the job done. But Holy S**t do they ever let it all hang out on this one! (As does the whole band.) Angelo and Norwood are in top form and all the new tunes are completely killer. Add to that immaculate sound quality (esp. for a "live" recording!) Up 'til this one, I was always holding on to "Truth and Soul" as the "truest" Fishbone album (whatever that means) but this album blows away any and all previous output by this most amazing and continually under-appreciated band. I had to push pause after the first 3 cuts just to realign my jawbone, as it was hanging down unhinged. This band just blows everyone away in any format, quite simply. These are the most talented musicians on the scene combining a multitude of different styles (from classical and jazz to funk and thrash-punk-metal) and presenting them in an all-out assault on the complacent commercialism that has now emasculated the entire music industry. Plus the lyrics are extremely intelligent AND funny, often at the same time! Who else is gonna give you all that? I have been a fan of the F-Boners ever since the beginning (saw 'em in '86 opening for the Chili Peppers -- Fishbone blew them away, starting a near-riot in the process!!!) And after all their tribulations, they have persevered and come out stronger than ever. This band is the living embodiment of what it means to be truly great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Punk at its Best
This CD is one of the best punk CDs you can possibly find. Not only is it [inexpensive], it also has 50 different amazing songs by 50 different great bands. Some of the bands you'll know if you're a big punk fan, but most you won't know, but they are definitely worthy of recognition. If you are a punk fan, this CD should definitely be in your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet Another Warped Tour Classic
This compilation truly serves justice to the history of Warped Tour. It's a jam packed two disc set, with 50 songs from some of the greatest punk bands of today and yesterday. A collection of music such as this is a feast that any Warped Tour fan will certainly enjoy. The appetizer is a live unreleased song by NOFX called "Three on Speed" followed by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' "You Gotta Go!". The album also serves up a bountiful collection of "main courses" featuring such bands as Midtown ("Become What You Hate"), Good Charlotte ("East Coast Anthem"),and Slick Shoes' "My Ignorance". For dessert we flip to the second disc, which features, Alkaline Trio's "Armageddon" and The Movielife's classic song "Hand Granade". To top it all off, why not sip the refreshing Irish melodies of Flogging Molly's "What's Left of the Flag".
Truly this is a must have, and a great addition to any ones music collection. For crying out loud it's only [a couple of bucks]. So pick up your copy today.

4-0 out of 5 stars IS IT LIVE?
On this cd are the songs live or just right off the cds?

5-0 out of 5 stars "50 songs, but I'm not complaining"
This CD is a confusing mix of punk bands, from pop-punk's Sum 41 & Good Charlotte to punk favorites Alkaline Trio, Vandetta Red, & The Casualties to bands that I've never even heard of such as Unsung Zeros, Ozma, & Destruction Made Simple. I reccomend this CD if you're looking for new bands to like & listen to. Although it's a confusing CD, it gives you new ideas of just how deep you're going to go in the punk underground.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS SKA AT ITS BEST
This compilation is ska at its best. It has a huge variety of ska; from punk influenced(MU330) to traditional(Hepcat), along with bands in between. This is a truly amazin CD...go out and buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ska Sucks- An Instant Skankin Classic
With about as vast a variety you can get, this cd covers all forms of ska, tinging on punk, reggae and rock. Some of my favorite tracks are the Dance Hall Crashers, Pietaster's with their classic drinking song, Less than Jake with and awesome remake of an annoying grease song, and the great song "Dream Girl" by Jeffries Fan Club, though unheard of to me, I loved this song the first time with it's original lyrics and extremely talented musicians. This cd is the best, buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good album
This is a really good album, one of the best compilations I own. Almost all the songs on the cd are great.. Some of the best ska bands are on here!!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
I have to give this one a four because I feel that the songs in the middle of the disc kind of drag, and are not the best choices, but the first 10 and the last 6 or so are some of the best punk/ska songs I've heard. They have assembled recordings from some of the best small name bands, and gotten a few real small bands best recordings. This is a disc I think all ska fans will enjoy, since there is a wide variety of styles represented, some more than others. I recommend this cd to all fans of ska music.

5-0 out of 5 stars an all around great cd
this cd is awesome. everysong on it gets you in the mood to skank the night away. the ltj remix of we go together sounds totally cool. props to them for taking a generic 50's song and making it into their own thing. everything else sounds good too. im just getting into third wave ska and this cd rox my world. a must buy for skankers and rudies. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Funny, energetic covers
I'm a big fan of covers/remakes. I like to see how an artist interprets a song. In this short CD, Goldfinger gives us a series of high-energy, tongue-in-cheek covers. As the saying goes, "They're not pulling any musical punches." But this is FUN! It's also some of the best workout music I know.

4-0 out of 5 stars A nice little covers record
I remember the first time I heard this record. I was in my friends car and he put this CD in and Goldfinger's thundering fast punk cover of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" came blasting on the stereo. I almost nearly had a heartattack laughing and listened in horror as I heard a great song be in, my first impression, butchered. I wanted to scream when he told me they covered "The Kids Are Alright" but then he let me borrow this album and after several listens, you start to like the covers and you kinda gotta admire Goldfinger in a weird sort of way for covering songs outside of their genre. All and all, this is just a fun covers record. I would not run out to buy this album but get a burned copy from a friend or find a cheap used copy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock 'N' Roll
Being a teenage scenester from Austin, Texas it is mandatory that I listen to the Impossibles. But then again, whats wrong with it being mandatory when the band is as great as they are. Many times when a ska/punk band try's to change their style, they often crash and burn (Goldfinger, No Doubt, even (some songs) scene favorite Less Than Jake). Impossibles, however, take it in a different direction, wheras instead of going completely punk, they added many Emo and Indie rock qualities, and it really works out. Many compare the "New" Impossibles to Weezer, I think this comparison is completely off as it is the most original than any album this reviewer has heard in a good long time. AUSTIN ROCK FOREVER!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous
OK, it's time to let everyone in on a little secret. The Impossibles are really a Weezer sideproject. Rivers got tired of the publicity he was getting from Weezer so he created an alter-ego for the band. You wonder where Weezer's been the last three years, stop wondering, they're right here.

This album rules. It's much better than Pinkerton. Can't wait for their new release. By the way, they're not really Weezer, they're better!

5-0 out of 5 stars Like Everyone Sez "This Rocks!"
Very very different from the Early Anthology Comp. They decided to abandon their ska/punk style and add an emotional touch to their music a la Weezer, other indie "emo" bands. Yeah, I'll stop now because all the other reviews explain the same thing. And it's an awesome, poppy, heavy at times and good melodic music. Sadly the Impossibles are no more, but try Slowreader's album out on Fueled by Ramen. It's sort of a project between the core of the Impossibles...Gabe and Rory.

5-0 out of 5 stars Title. Title title title title title.
This is quite possibly my alltime favorite CD. The Impossibles reach a pinacle of mellow melodic punk, if such a genre can even exist. While other albums, such as the Anthology, are high quality albums, I prefer this album simply because their sound had a chance to develop further.
I was going to list my favorite songs but I turned on the CD and remembered that all of the songs are my favorites. Intermission must be mentioned above all else simply because it is so unique: A round that starts off with a piano playing a simple repeated melody, slowly adds in guitars and other instruments before finally adding vocals. Simple and intricate at the same time, it's a truly beautiful song.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS CD!!
I am from Austin and therefore I may be a little more biased towards this band, but I think this cd is amazing. This was the first cd of theirs that I heard and I immediately fell in love. The throat straining screams, aggressive guitars and catchy lyrics make this one of my favorite cds of all time. Many compare them to weezer, but it's so much more than that. Their cd after this is also amazing, but too short. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This CD is amazing
This CD is amazing and i love dancing to it. gwen is sooo cool! this cd combines rock, punkie, and pop. so if you like rock punk and pop you should defenately check this out!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great album to own
The last reviewer was way out of line reviewing this limited edition version of No Doubt's multiplatinum "Rock Steady". Yeah, maybe there's only two extra acoustic bonus tracks, but if you are like me, and didn't get the original version of the album before this came out, you should get this version. Afterall, for the same price, you do get two acoustic tracks that are unrehearsed and pretty good. Plus the "Underneath It All" video is great. And I don't know what the last review was talking about, saying that the tracks are mixed up. Completely untrue. Disc one has the same 13 tracks the orginal version has. Disc two is simply two bonus tracks and a music video that plays in your computer. So if you have the original version, don't worry too much about getting this, but if you haven't picked up the kick a** "Rock Steady" album yet, why not get this version that has some extra stuff for the same price? The songs are great. Highlights are "Hella Good", "Hey Baby", "Making Out", "Underneath It All", "Detective", "Don't Blow It", and "Running".

5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore previous review
The previous review is a little bit off target. It turns out that the track listing on Amazon.com is incorrect - the bonus tracks are featured on a supplemental second disk, and the first disk contains the entire album in its original form. No tracks have been removed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dance Hall Crashers-Order Now With Extra Volume
This EP is an excellent slice of Dance Hall Crashers ska/pop/punk. The opening track 'She's Trying' has acatchy hook that complements the sweet vocal harmonies of Karina and Elyse. The story is sweet too. 'Lady Luck' follows and it's a fast mover with a twist of retro. 'All Mine' is a nice love song that focuses on vocals(and they are very good indeed.) 'Truly Comfortable' and the acoustic 'Shelly'(this song may get on some nerves due to the way the vocals are mixed). 'I Did It For the Toys'ends the audio part of the CD on a punky perverse note. There are four videos for different songs along with pictures of the band. Get this CD for it is a good amount of music for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars One word...AWESOME
This whole CD is great...as worthy as anything DHC has ever done. The last song "I Did It For The Toys" is a neo-Christmas carol for the 90s...in its sick, perverse, and hilariously twisted way. The remix of "All Mine" and the Acoustic Version of "Shelley" add new dimensions to familiar songs. And all I can say about "She's Trying" is...sheer perfection!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for fans of good, fun music!!
As a DHC fan, I may have a biased opinion, but there is little doubt in my mind that if you don't own anything by DHC, you are missing out. A blend of ska/pop/punk, DHC's music, lyrics and tight harmonies by the female lead singers will simply blow you away! A must have for anybody who likes good, fun music. The four videos and candid photos of the group are an added bonus for fans of the group. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Warped Tour - An excellent diversion from everyday melodrama
OK, I went to Warped Tour 2000 in Tennessee and I thought most of the bands there performed very well, particularly Green Day. Shindig is a great band with excellent songwriting skills which should have been on this CD, however their set was adversely affected by lousy sound techs. This CD is high quality, it is live (even if not recorded at the actual tour as it should have been), and only lacks in that more local bands are not represented on it.

5-0 out of 5 stars This CD rocks!
This CD is great, and is a must have for any punker. Although it's called World Warped III and contains bands that were on the warped tour in recent years, none of the shows on this disc are recorded from warped tour, most are from clubs and various other shows. Most of the recordings are terrific quality, while others like NOFX appears to be recorded from a bootleg.

If you like Dropkick Murphy's, the first track contains "Barroom Hero" live, with Al Barr singing, it's the best version of this song I've ever heard because the crowd sings along and it's cool to hear Al Barr singing the song, he does a great job.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another nice comp....
What happens you put Dropkick Murphys, Less Than Jake, NOFX, Blink 182, and a heap of great bands all in the same CD... Well... You get something like World Warped III... If you have the money, get it. Along with the bands I mentioned you also get songs from bands you may not have heard... And that's always good.

5-0 out of 5 stars World Warped III Live
This CD ROCKS! Blink is the best band today!

4-0 out of 5 stars The best CD I ever heard

For a bunch of Southern California punk rockers who still commit plenty of time to running both an indie record store and a recording studio, this 14-song collection doesn't sound like the afterthought of businessmen who need a hobby. Instead Voodoo Glow Skulls build on their roots in the hardcore and Hispanic communities while tossing off plenty of whiplash nods to ska pioneers like the Specials. Pumping out more pogos than Walt Kelly on a bender, the Skulls' third Epitaph release, The Band Geek Mafia, picks up a caffeine buzz and throws it in the back of the van to work out a deal with the horn section. The result is a skateboarder's sonic dream and his mother's ultimate headache. --Jason Josephes ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Introduction to the Voodoo Glow Skulls
This CD is absolutely rockin'. It was my introduction to the Voodoo Glow Skulls, and it has hooked me thoroughly. It's got the fast beat of a punk band merged with the unique sound of ska horns. Songs such as "Human Pinata", "They Always Come Back", and "Band Geek Mafia" have great sounds and "Stranded in the Jungle" is downright addictive. I definitely endorse this album; it is a must have for any ska or punk fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars For Serious VGS Fans Only
When I first heard Voodoo Glow Skulls' first album, "Who Is, This Is?" I immediately became attracted to their super fast, horn-heavy, ska/punk/hardcore sound. Then I saw them live in 1996 at the Cactus Club in San José, CA and fell madly in love with these seven boys from Riverside. It goes without question that "Who Is, This Is?" is the Glow Skulls' finest CD, with "Firme" coming in at a close second. So, when I found out that VGS came out with a new CD, I was very interested to see if they could redeem themselves after their dismal last attempt ("Baile de los Locos").

And it sounds like they have. Somewhat.

Their newest album, "Band Geek Mafia," starts off in classic VGS style with "Human Piñata," a raucous thrash-fest replete with a compelling bass guitar hook and horns, horns horns. The title track delivers much of the same satisfaction. The juxtaposition of tribal tom-tom drum beats ("And meanwhi! le, back in the jungle...") played off against what can only be best described as Chubby Checker-esque piano riffs - yes, I said Chubby Checker-esque - ("And meanwhile, back in the States...") makes "Stranded in the Jungle" the most refreshing track on the whole CD by far.

What I didn't like about the CD, however, is how easily the boys can fall into the same pattern and commit the same mistakes they made on Baile; by nature ska/punk/hardcore plays hard and fast; but there's a difference between an adrenaline rush and an aneurysm. Apparently, it is possible to go too fast; after a while, every song blends into each other, and the melody is lost.

If you compare this CD to "Who Is, This Is?," be prepared to be disappointed. I haven't heard anything in their following CDs that even comes close to such classics as "Dogpile" and "Ugly Stick." However, "Band Geek Mafia" does have its bright moments. Buy this CD, if on! ly to fill out the rest of your VGS collection. There are e! nough good tracks on the CD that validate listening to it over and over again. Who knows; the rest of it just might grow on you.

Favorite tracks: "Human Piñata," "Brodie Johnson Weekend," "The Band Geek Mafia,"Stranded in the Jungle."

4-0 out of 5 stars and this one time at band geek
the band geek mafia is the sexiest vgs album ever, it reminds me of when i broke my ankle and had it in plaster, and i hired out the nintendo game banjo & kazooee. i put it in and played it over and over, so now when i see banjo & kazooee at the video store i intanstly start humming 'love letter' or that 'guy with glasses' song. ohhhhh i love it and so will you it is very skankalicious. besides if it wasn't good mark adkins wouldn't endorse it now would he? yum yum yum yum 4 stars, 4 yums.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't criticize what you don't understand
I've never been much of a fan of the Glow Skulls' earlier stuff, but this album just really hit perfection on the nose. A lot of people were turned off by the vocals of the fat, bald guy yelling monotone into the microphone. But it's not about that. This album doesn't even NEED vocals as far as I'm concerned. Instead it gives you a wicked super-charged brass section. The only other band I've ever heard come close to that is the Mad Caddies, and they didn't come very close. This is by far the best fusion of ska and hardcore out there, mixed with a Latin edge and taken to speeds guaranteed to get you pulled over even on the Autobon. Every song is worth listening to, and if you eat up this kind of sound, you won't find yourself touching that "Skip" button on the stereo much.

4-0 out of 5 stars I Grew Into It
At first, the singer dude sounded all whacked out and stuff so I really didn't like it. But after a while, I started thinking that this was pretty cool, so I started liking it. The horns are kind of funny and also unique because they're used like in different ways and stuff like that. The guitars are like insane and really cool, and so is the bass. So this is a pretty cool CD and I'd recommend it to like ska/punk heads of course. This is kind of what my band sound like except my voice isn't as deep as this guy's.

The best song is They Always Come Back. The cover art is kind of funny, with the nerd guy and stuff. Also check out Aquabats, The Clash (who wouldn't?), River City Rebels, Catch 22, Less Than Jake, and Reel Big Fish. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars DHC Does it again!
Hey... as a huge DHC fan for many years... this is a definite new sound for them... not as poppy as HiH i don't think, definitely more punky... a more ska-punkish edge to the music... awesome, indeed. "Beverly Kills", "Nothing Left To Say", "Do You Think You're Beautiful", & "Cat Fight" are just a few of the many songs on this album that kept me groovin'... Even "Cricket" which was a totally mature sound, really sounded cool - really different for DHC especially. Although I am partial to DHC and love *ALL* their albums, this is a 5-star without a doubt! Buy it, listen to it, and you'll see what I mean.

I think it's more about the lyrics of "Purr" (the whole album) that make it so unique and one of their best albums... really great writing by the Dance Hall Crashers... Post what you think when you purchase the album!!

5-0 out of 5 stars the dhc have done it again
The Dance Hall Crashers are one of those great bands that don't have the commercial success they deserve. This CD is another example of their sassy, totally listenable music. It is slightly darker than "Honey I'm Homely", but it seems to have more depth. I love this album!

4-0 out of 5 stars It grows on you
I didn't like it when I first listened, but that's not uncommon with CDs I eventually find really interesting. Plan to take some time to read the lyrics -- they are different, fun, and clever. The harmonies are similarly appealing. I would especially recommend "Cat Fight" to all feminists.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, But Not Their Best
Generally, there are three elements that I look for in ska music. They are:
1. Happy tune/vibe
2. Horns section
3. Good Lyrics
Since ska is by nature always happy, this lives up to that expectation, but it pretty much ends there. They eliminated their horns section after making "The Old Album", and so far their lyrics have not made much of an impact on me. Just buy this if you are a DHC fan and already have some of their other stuff. If you're a DHC virgin, I recomend "Honey, I'm Homely!" perticularly tracks 1, 11, & 12.

5-0 out of 5 stars DHC numbawan !!
This is my first DHC album, and by golly it won't be my last! Filled with catchy upbeat riffs and tight harmonizing from the two lead vox. I'm amazed (but immensely grateful) that we haven't seen DHC on mainstream radio. ... Read more

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' Pay Attention is crippled by its 16-track length. Although the album clocks in at an average length of 51 minutes, clumps of filler tracks make the listening experience seem even longer. This is a shame because a few of the tracks show that the 'Tones are more than distilled-ska manufacturers. "The Skeleton Song" swoops down with driving horns and a well-placed xylophone, punching its introspective lyrics straight into that part of the brain that nets catchy songs; an anthemic bridge only furthers infernal internal "make it stop!" repetition. Also, "Riot on Broad Street" shows the Boston-based eight-piece adding some south-of-the-border spice to the mix. Alas, anonymous songs that sound like they were cribbed from the band's earlier releases dominate the affair, as do head-scratchingly banal lyrics such as "If you stay down too long, you can sometimes lose your grip." Indeed. --Jason Josephes ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars So sad to say!
It pains me to write this review, but I feel like the bosstones have really let me down. I am a true fan, I've seen them live over thirty times, dating back to the University of New Hampshire cafeteria gigs in 1989. Critic have always hated their studio albums, because the songs do not have the energy that their live shows do. I happen to love the bosstones past efforts, Pay Attention does not stack up. Especially when you compare the album to Let's Face It and Question the Answers. On these albums the songs seemed much crisper. They isolated the brass solos, which in turn gave their songs life. On Pay Attention the recording seems clumsy. The tracks seem to run into eachother with little distinction. You don't get the feeling they had fun making this album, probably because of the pressure that was put on them with the success of Let's Face It. Their is nothing memomarable here, no hard riffs,no catchy chorus, it seems like a truly generic ska effort. I hope you can redeam yourself on the Warped Tour.

5-0 out of 5 stars Their best work to date
This has got to be one of the best ska cds i've ever heard. If you don't like their other cds it doesn't matter. This cd is much different. Its more of a straight forward rock and roll cd with horns. Songs like. . . well. . . i can't pick because they are all great. My favorites are The Skeleton Song, So Sad To Say, High School Dance (is it just me or is this song disturbing?), The More I know and riot on broad street. Do yourself a favor and just buy it. I can't recommend it highly enough(trust me i'm VERY critical on music. its my hobby).

4-0 out of 5 stars The day they didnt die
The day he didnt die. This song is so good i would pay some one full price for this album if it was thee only song that played. Dont get me wrong, the other songs on this cd are good too. a must own cd

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it it grows on you!
I reviewed this cd three years ago and pretty much trashed it. The tempo of the album was such a departure that I hastily called it crap without really giving it a chance. Bosstones are my favorite band and over time this has become my favorite album. All the songs are well constructed gems.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just ignored for those fools in N' Stink
This album was the long awaited follow-up to the hugely succesful Let's Face It. Let's Face It(pardon the pun), went Multi-Platinum and these guys were on the verge of being superstars after years of underground success. However, when The Bosstones released Pay Attention in April, 2000, the album was ignored. The public nicknamed this album Just Ignore because of those maggots N' Sync had that stupid Bye Bye Bye CD out at the same time. Of course, the sheep followed what big brother MTV said was musically great but The Bosstones whom were one of the originators of the ska-rock thing were wrongfully relegated to one-hit wonder land. This is a good CD buy it. ... Read more
