"Life Won't Wait" was the eagerly-anticipated follow-up to 1995's "...And Out Come The Wolves," and it showed surprising levels of innovation and musical exploration from what had been a band with staid musical style. "Bloodclot" is the leadoff shot, a typical Rancid-esque song with Lars' raw-throated vocals getting the record off to a super-charged opening. There are a lot of great tracks on this record that are not straight-ahead punk songs, and if people complain about Rancid trying out Ska and Reggae, the lyric "Desmond Dekker was singin" from "Roots Radicals" is obviously lost on them. "Hoover Street" is one such reggae song, though it mixes rocking choruses in for a great blend of sounds all tied together with Tim Armstrong's drawling vocals. "Who would've thought" and "Corazon De Oro" are also in the reggae/ska vein. Both are beautiful songs that bespeak brash and youthful love, and are a far cry from the hard-edged punkishness that had been Rancid's trademark up to this point. While the departure is uncharacteristic, the songs' strength and sheer enjoyability cannot be denied. "Life Won't Wait" and "Wrongful Suspicion" also have the Jamaican style, though they are more serious and political than the aforementioned selections. Lars does even more singing on this record, and his voice is an excellent counterpoint to Tim's. There are so many amazing songs on this album, it's hard to pick any favorites, but my favorites are "Coppers," "Something in the World today," "Cash Cutlture and Violence," and the brilliant "Crane Fist." Listening to this album takes you through almost all ranges of human emotion. From adrenaline-fueled aggression to anthemic exaltation, Rancid has crafted a masterpiece with this album. I've had it for four years and never gotten sick of it once. If you like bands like Green Day, the Clash, the Ramones, and any of the new Pop-punk bands, give this one a try. I think you Blink-182 fans might just be pleasantly surprised.
Bottom Line: Angry? Not really, Original? No, Fun? Definately. This sounds a lot like the Clash, but that doesn't matter, because this record is brilliant. And, the clash are good, so what's bad about sounding similar to them?
Intro: Loud, Fast and Short, good start. 9/10 | |

This album just blew me away. Yes, there is less of the ska influence and a move towards power pop, but power pop with horns. Unlike the feeling of some other reviewers, I don't feel they have lost their sense of humor at all. 'Rock and Roll is Bitchin'' is one of the funniest songs I've heard outside of 'This is Spinal Tap', 'Ban the Tubetop' and 'Dateless Loser' along with the majority of the rest of the tracks have a sense of humor that is is just as funny as the old stuff, but with a sense of maturity that is also evident in their musicianship, and who gives a [***]if they don't swear as much...that's already overdone and old...the shock value is gone and it's time to play the music.
personal favorites include: Suckers- a hilarious romp of an "i hate love" song that is half a joke and half serious What are friends for- intelligent lyrics, plus a beat that makes me wanna dance. and i hate to dance, people! New york, new york- a great acapella version of the frank classic. singing, drums, and horns all done by the human mouth! Dateless losers- someone finally wrote a song about my life! thanks guys. Boss dj- a killer sublime cover done up reggae-style. its quite a good song, trust me. makes you jive in the car. once more, buy this album and make good use of your money. this music can make you feel justified, happy, listless, and satisfied.

This classical of punk rock mix all the direct street punk sound ...and of course...this one marks too the first rancid record w/Lars F. and his amazing vocals. There's a curiosity about 2 songs in this CD that some people won't notice: The songs Harry Bridges and Motorcycle Ride. -Harry Bridges 1rst verse its the same verse already sung in their first cd in the song Union Blood (1RST VERSE:bloody thursady, was july5th the pigs killed three works Harry Bridges....etc) -Motorcycle Ride first verse and 2nd verse, except for the chorus, these verses are the same 1first verse of the music TIME BOMB later recorded in and out come the wolves. Tim sings a lot faster and almoust incoprehensive (if you wanna make a move then you better come in...etc) Amazing songs, probably the best songs ever recorded by rancid are here!
These songs are really good, but, at first, they all kind of sound the same. It takes a few listens, but, after a while, you start to notice the uniqueness of each song. Once you realize how great of an album Let's Go is, you'll want to listen to it all the time. It's got 23 songs on it, so it never gets boring. This, ...And Out Come the Wolves, and Rancid 2000 are what I consider the essential Rancid purchases. AOCTW has a punk/ska-ish, almost poppy kind of feel, while Rancid 2000 is pure punk, and Let's Go is sort of a median between the two. Bottom Line: Great, sort of light punk record from the 90s.

I think somebody should make a real Sublime CD to truly showcase all of their great songs, not just the 10 biggest radio hits. (...)
8-Badfish-(3:06)-9/10
Now dont waste your money on this cd, because this will lead you to buy all their other cds. So start earlier, and buy the 3 real sublime cd's; 40oz To Freedom, Robbin' The Hood, and Sublime's best...Sublime.

For what it's worth, the band has a very distinctive style- not a distinctive SOUND but a distinctive way of approaching a song- instead of the No Doubt cookie-cutter factory-sealed-and-pressed radio-friendly ska-pop, Save Ferris definitely do their own thing. They produce an album that covers very human and common things- deteriorating friendships, loss of love, recovery from life's dark periods- and they cover those things in a fresh and fun approach, usually upbeat and almost never too sad. The problem is that they strive for their difference. It's not a natural sound, it's forced. They wanted to be the creative ska band, true to their ska roots on their follow up. They fell a bit short. I haven't heard all of the first album, but there are few horns heard throughout the course of the tracks. Isn't a horn section a requirement of all proper ska bands? Did I miss something? I have to admit they make their point and they prove their creativity with tracks like "Your Friend" and "Modified," but they just don't have what it takes in other songs. It's a good album if you want to try something uplifting and different from the bland over-stated alternative rock of today. If you're looking for something that's going to shake up your outlook on life, though, this really isn't that thought-provoking or insightful. I was disappointed.

First off, Greatest Hits as of right now is out of print. Therefore, this album seems to have replaced Greatest Hits. In my opinion, this new best of Sublime cd should've been released instead of Greatest Hits. This new cd was set up much better than Greatest Hits. It has a really writing on Sublime's music by one of Subime's former managers inside the cd's booklet. Though the pictures found in the booklet have already been seen by most fans, the art inside and info's were set up quite nicely and organized. This is the type of cd that you can bring to a party and play the whole thing through. Rather than bring all your Sublime cd's, this one cd manages to give enough tastes of Sublime, giving you 10 of the most appealing songs Sublime made. What is great about this album is how many of the tracks have been remastered. There is much better quality on Badfish and Smoke Two Joints on this cd than there was on the album "40 Oz. To Freedom". What I had hoped for the song "Greatest-Hits" happened on this cd. The song was truly remastered. It can't sound any better than on this cd. This type of cd isn't made to attract old fans to buy. These are for fans who have never bought a Sublime cd, or have only heard a few songs, or basically only want one cd and want just the best most appealing songs. I already have had all 6 main Sublime albums released for years now. I never bought Greatest Hits, I thought it was a rip off cuz not only was it ten songs, but it was majorly overpriced. The reasons I give this release 4 stars is because there are a few things that I must critique. The cd contains 10 songs for a total of 31 minutes. There are other 20th century masters cd's that contain 12 tracks. This album should've had 12 songs on it. 10 songs just doesn't feel like enough when so much more could fit. Date Rape, Smoke Two Joints, and Badfish were the 3 songs from 40 Oz. To Freedom that got rock radio play on certain stations. These 3 are also stand outs from the album "40 Oz. To Freedom" that no fan can really deny. Saw Red is always a predictable choice for the fact that Gwen Stefani of No Doubt sings with Brad on this song. Though the acoustic solo version of Saw Red done just by Bradley Nowell on his acoustic guitar is much better, this punk/ska version of Saw Red has always been good. The addition of the song Greatest-Hits to this collection could bring a smile to some fans. This track is one of the fan favorites. There isn't really any "radio-friendly" type songs on Sublime's second album "Robbin' The Hood", so the compilers did what they could in choosing these two songs. For Self-Titled, there are 4 obvious selections which are the singles (What I Got, Santeria, Wrong Way, Doin' Time). April 29, 1992 is one of the most well known Sublime songs out there. It also got its fair share of amounts of radio play on Rock stations. It was a sin for them not to include the song "40 Oz. To Freedom" on this. The song has always been one of Sublime's stand out songs, and it was on Sublime's "Greatest Hits" cd.. Another song that is missed on this album is "Pool Shark". "Pool Shark can be considered one of the most important songs Sublime ever wrote. It is in my opinion, the most emotional song Bradley Nowell ever sang. Maybe the quite short punk version did not fit in well with this album, but they could've put in a mixed version of Pool Shark with both the acoustic and electric versions on the same track. This mix of Pool Shark was released on a certain Sublime import that mixed songs from 40 Oz. To Freedom and Robbin' The Hood. Even if they could have, maybe the they just didn't want to waste any more time on this release putting in a rare cut and just wanted to put in songs that they didn't have to do much to. Though I do already have all the albums and I listen to them all occasionaly, I'm finding myself leaning alot towards this cd. This album contains a bunch of songs that I find myself skipping to the most when listening to a Sublime cd. A couple of hardcore Sublime fans have asked for a Sublime box set. Though many die hard fans have wished for it, a box set may not make sense for them to release. First off all, we already have all the albums. Second, we have alot of unreleased stuff on bootlegs and such. Lastly, after 6 and a half years, there may not be a large enough fanbase to purchase a boxset, or have interest in one. Even if there is more unreleased tracks, they may be unreleased for reasons. Maybe Brad and the band didn't want to ever release certain tracks. Maybe it's that Sublime's unreleased stuff, though good, cannot match up to what they did release, unlike in the case of Nirvana. If you're a person who has not heard that much from Sublime yet, buy this album first. It will lead you to buying their albums "Sublime" and "40 Oz. To Freedom" and then lead you to buy the rest of their albums. This best of Sublime cd is a near perfect introduction to Sublime. Even if you're already a fan of Sublime and have all their released tracks as well as some unreleased songs, this album is still worth getting. The cover art, the pretty well chosen song selection, the noticible remastered tracks, and it's low price are enough to even attract already Sublime fans. This album is more of a collector's item for already fans.

0. Hidden Track - When Automatic starts playing, rewind it and it will go into the negitives. Stop rewinding when it gets to -1.41 and you will here Howie J. Reynolds talking, it's very funny. 10/10 1. Automatic - One of my favourite songs. Cool lyrics, good tromboning and just a very catchy song. 10/10 2. Happyman - A good song with a good chorus and tune. 10/10 3. 9th at the Pine - Good trombone intro, not too long, good chorus. 10/10 4. Sugar in Your Gastank - Excellent song, good lyrics and chorus. 10/10 5. Shindo - Definitely one of my favourite songs on the album. It doesn't have much tromboning in it, but the lyrics are great and it's one of the best on the album. 10/10 6. 107 - Another great song. Not much trombone on this either, but the rest is good. 10/10 7. Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts - This has always been one 8. Krazy Glue - One of the best songs on the album. The lyrics are very original, and it is very catchy. 10/10 9. Never Going Back to New Jersey - Hilarious intro, and the rest of the song is amazing. 10/10 10. How's My Driving, Doug Hastings? - Good chorus, the rest of the song is also excellent. 10/10 11. Just Like Frank - One of my favourite Less Than Jake songs. The whole song is ace. 10/10 12. Ask the Magic 8 Ball - Good song, especially the bass. 9/10 13. Dopeman - I love this song, one of the best songs on the album. Funny lyrics, excellent tune. 10/10 14. Jen Doesn't Like Me Anymore - I loved this song, it's a little boring now but that's only because I listened to it too much. I still have to give it 10/10. 15. Rock-N-Roll Pizzeria - Another one of the best on the album, the chorus and lyrics make it a legendary song. 10/10 16. Lockdown - Good song, great tromboning. 9/10 As you can see, total adds up to 158/160 which is definitely 5 stars. I have three words for you: -- BUY THIS ALBUM -- because all the songs are amazing. Definitely one of my favourite albums. If you are looking for a Less Than Jake album to buy, buy this or "The Pez Collection" (24 of Less Than Jake's greatest songs not including Borders & Bounderies, kind of a Greatest Hits CD).
It kicks off with Automatic. This automatically gets you hooked... the pun was probably intended. It's one of Less Than Jake's best songs in their library. Followed up by "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" classics such as Happyman, 9th at Pine, or the minute and a half ska extraordinaire How's My Driving, Doug Hastings?. My personal favorites are Automatic, of course, and 107, one of the catchiest songs on the CD. If you wanna get hooked to this CD, listen to Automatic, Sugar in Your Gastank, 107, Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts and Dopeman. Sugar in Your Gastank and Dopeman aren't necessarily my faves, but they were the ones I turned to first, and they still kick ass. My advice is to buy it. Like, now. Facts may say that Goldfinger's debut album, out that same year, did much better chartwise, but Less Than Jake's album is much more solid, with songs that are at par with each other. Goldfinger are good, but Less Than Jake are better. That I can tell you from experience. You'll also find that Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts and Jen Doesn't Like Me Anymore, on this album, were also on their original debut, Pezcore. Buy that, too. And Hello Rockview. And Anthem. I still haven't bought Borders & Boundaries, but I will. Less Than Jake are without a doubt, my favorite band.

Album Description Before the release of a five-song EP in June of 2002, the band played numerous live shows andcaptivated audiences with songs like "Vague Love Song" and "My Life" as well as covers like Van Halen's "Dance the Night Away" and "Go to Hell" by Suburban Rhythm. These tasty gems are just a few of the offerings on their full-length release, Friend Or Foe. Wonders Dub I- good intro, but could've been longer. A Sunny Hours- the radio hit from this album, featuring Will.I.Am. Great happy summer song. A+ Listen to DJs- great reggae track. Pays tribute to the greats of dancehall, such as Johnny Osbourne, Mad Cobra, Josey Wales, and Admiral Bailey. A+ Rolled Up- title sounds like a weed song, but isnt. catchy and radio-friendly with a light ska-pop vibe. A Every Mother's Dream- high-energy punk song, i think its a cover. somewhat reminiscent of "paddle out" from Sublime's self-titled. B+ Life Goes On- great hip-hop/reggae song with 3 guest vocalists including Chali2na from Jurassic 5 and Tippa Irie. A It Ain't Easy- another solid song with upbeat ska rhythms. A- Luke- great slow reggae tune with cool story. A Wonders Dub II- an improvement on WDI mainly because it's longer. A No Way- more of an edgy ska-metal vibe. not that great. B- Lonely End- back to the smooth reggae. great lyrics. A Talkin tha Truth- my favorite on the second half of the album. the closest they'll come to an anti-drug song ("Stick to da weed!) anti-heroin lyrics no doubt inspired by brad nowell's untimely death A+ Free Love- the album kinda weakens for a few tracks here. good reggae song about having a 3-way. C Lies- "Lies wont set you free-- so why do foolish things?" B- Kablammin It- VERY sexual song about, well, kablammin it. the music sounds like a "caress me down" retread. kinda funny though. B- Grass Cloud- a 6+ minute long instrumental encompassing evry style implemented by LBDAS from quasi-dub turntablism at the start to heavy punk guitars at the end. B+ Sunny Hours (Reprise)- the original without the rap or loud guitar. its just as good or better than the original. A+

Unfortunately, those days are gone. They've sold out to the pop punk scene (very evident from the change to Warner Brothers record label, the video for Shes Gonna Break Soon(and the song itself), the fact that this disk has a CD extra, and many other things). First things first, the most disappointing thing about "Anthem" is that the ska guitar riffs, beats, and horn solos are almost completely gone in favor of mostly loud, buzzing generic pop punk guitar riffs that never really die down. The horns are used sparingly for short horn blasts in the background (and are even almost entirely absent from many songs), which usually can barely even be heard over the guitars. I almost get the impression that they'd rather not have horns at all anymore, but just stuck in a few horn blasts to give Buddy and JR something to do. So, obviously, they want to tread away from the ska scene almost completely. The lyrics on "Anthem" are still intelligent Less Than Jake material. However, other than a few songs, this is more or less radio friendly pop-punk, except faster and with the intelligent Less Than Jake lyrics. They even remade "Look What Happened" from Boarders and Boundaries into a more upbeat, radio friendly remake. It sounded much better on Boarders and Boundaries. Oh yeah, and "Shes Gonna Break Soon" is a commercialized [song], and the remake of Cheap Trick's "Surrender" would have sounded much better if the band was still a ska punk band. Now, they're a punk band with horn players in it. All things considered, even with the change from ska punk to just plain, more commercialized punk, this album is far from being bad. The songs may not be what we're used to from Less Than Jake, but they're still very catchy, and this still is better than ANY pop punk act out there (and still one of the best punk acts). Most Less Than Jake fans will probably be a little disappointed, but should still pick up this album (which will most likely gain Less Than Jake a lot more new fans).
On their latest album, Less Than Jake have turned away their punk ear to their pop ear, with mixed results. Though the album is not bad, it's not amazing either. Some standouts include "Look What Happened" "The Science Of Selling Yourself Short" and the awesome Cheap Trick cover "Surrender." Overall rating: Three and a half stars.
With "Anthem", Chris, Roger, and the rest of the gang display the powerful rifts and harmonious lyrics that make the band great. My favorite tracks are "The Science of Selling Yourself Short", "Short Fuse Burning", and the second effort of "Look What Happened". Being a LTJ fan for more than 6 years now, I'd have to rate this as their most complete album, and yes, even more complete than "Losing Streak". Although many purists might be upset with the band trying to find their niche in the mainstream, one must not forget that music is a business and the overall objective of any band, including Less Than Jake, is to reach their fans and get their music out there. By signing with Sire the band has taken a major step forward in terms of record distribution and exposure. I've seen the band on five occasions and the last time spoke with Roger about the music business. Although he was weary about the true LTJ fans throwing the term "sell out" around, he and the rest of the band were immensely happy with "Anthem", and rightfully so. As fans we should enjoy Less Than Jake's lastest effort and let the band worry about the business end. After all, their message is still the same as it ever was. In closing, I'd recommend "Anthem" to any Less Than Jake fan. The band has really pushed this album as their best effort yet and hopefully, with a little luck and Sire representing them, LTJ will finally get the coverage and respect they so truly deserve.
