4-0 out of 5 stars Emo: the depressing background music of my soul
This is one of the raddest compilations i've com across. (I was especially happy to hear The End Of Julia on there.) Its driving, soothing, touching and moving music that will put you on an emotional rollercoaster. Be sure to pop your prozac before you pop in the cd. Good stuff and recommended to any true music lover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deep elm does it once again

4-0 out of 5 stars I am not a fan of punk but love this one...
for its sheer eccentric value.
Not what you would call "hard-core" punk. Essentially a collection of mainstream pop songs given a Germanic punk treatment.
Europop meets punk rock.
Although real punk fans probably won't like it the album has a character of its own and the German treatment of popular musical genres is always worth a listen.
The album is worth the purchase price for "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"
Light and fun and great feel good music- and we all need some of that from time to time.

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty good.....if you already have #3
Hey, if you're a fan of punk covers go buy Punk Chartbusters NUMBER THREE. It's better than #4. If you already have #3 this one's almost as good. Much like #3 there are a bunch of German bands I've never heard of & most of them [stink]. Standouts are The Living End's version of "Tainted Love", Schandfleck's "Torn" & "S.O.S." by the Mad caddies. Sewing With Nancy and Die Toten Hosen do good songs too. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the cause
This cd was pretty good, a couple good songs, a couple crappy ones. My favorite song on the cd, and probably right now is "Fireball" by Algebra One. If anyone knows where I can hear more of them, just write another review or something.

5-0 out of 5 stars buy this album
Benefit for the foundation fighting blindness. Only 4 bucks and has awesome songs. My favorites were both fifteen songs, the algebra one song and the kid dynamite song, and the weakerthans. Come on! 4 bucks! Benefit the blind! Get it! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Freaky!
I can't bring myself to give this 5 stars--or even 4 stars--because, for a compilation that calls itself "World of Punk", way too many essential names are missing...The Clash, The Ramones, The Jam and The Buzzcocks are the four biggest, not to mention other greats like The Undertones, The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, The Saints, and so forth. If you wanted to buy a compilation to serve as an introduction to punk, this would NOT be it...go with something in Rhino's DIY series, Virgin's "The Best Punk Album in the World...Ever", or the "Cash from Chaos" box set. Those compilations serve well to include most or all of the names mentioned above, plus somewhat lesser-known stuff to shed some light on the manifold splinter factions of punk.

But what this album lacks in name value, it recompenses...partially, at least...by being perhaps the weirdest punk compilation--and there are HUNDREDS--available.

Really, no other compilation would have the--what?ingenuity? balls?stupidity?--to include BOTH "Jet Boy Jet Girl" and "Ca Plane Pour Moi", the exact same song in two different languages.I mean, really. They're not cover versions or anything, it's the exact same backing track. But in a strange way, both versions have their own charm. It IS two different singers, and while the French lyrics are pure nasal nonsense, the English lyrics are rather...suggestive.

It's not at all limited to that.Everything about this collection is mind-boggling.I mean, what the heck kind of compilation includes both Face To Face and Steve Diggle?!That said, the Steve Diggle choice--"Tomorrow's Sunset"--is superb, and this is the only punk compilation I know of that features a Steve Diggle song other than "50 Years of Comparative Wealth" (and his hits with the Buzzcocks, of course).

The names are pure cognitive dissonance...Oi! pioneers The Angelic Upstarts together with deadpan new wave godfather Jona Lewie?"Are You Ready for the Sex Girls?" and "E.M.I."?You don't even find that kind of range on most box sets, and this is a puny li'l 2-CD set.But even though one might not think they belong on the same CD, "Are You Ready?" is a great new wave song (it's included on Vol. 1 of Rhino's "Just Can't Get Enough" series), and "E.M.I.", of course, is seminal punk rock.

So, really, if you're looking for a broad-based intro to punk rock, steer clear. But if you're already familiar with the genre and you're looking for a few good songs, and you don't mind (or, in true punk tradition, embrace) the sheer strangeness of it all, for its very reasonable price, this is not a half-bad purchase. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars wow
what a deal, you get great songs by great bands like lagwagon, the hippos, new found glory, and the get up kids, plus awesome songs by bands you've never even heard of like sarge, the masked anamals, and the adventures of jet. I swear that i was listing to green day when i heard the gamats and the impossables do sound a lot like weezer like the review below said. Your missing out if you pass this up, and really, for [price], how can you go wrong?

4-0 out of 5 stars not too shabby
i bought this cd because i heard of the get up kids, lagwagon, the hippos, new found glory and other bands where on there that i liked.there are some really awesome songs on this cd.for 5 bucks i dont see how you can go wrong.it will definately introduce to a ton of other excellen bands out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Emo-Tastic?
Well... almost. This CD is a GREAT starter for anyone just jumping aboard the Emo/Pop Punk tidal wave. You're getting alot for your money here, and you're not just getting emo. Death by Stereo and Hot Water Music toss in some nice hardcore, and you get nice upbeat work from great bands like Lagwagon, Allister, and A New Found Glory. Let's not forget that you get great songs from emo kings like Promise Ring, The Get Up Kids, and No Motiv. Hell, the Hippos even throw in a little Ska. Hey... didn't get the new Weezer yet? No problem, cause you'll think you're hearing the newest Weezer hit when The Impossibles come over your speakers. Even with all that name dropping you've still got a good 15 songs from bands you probably haven't heard of! If you're anything like me you'll dig the fun of finding a new band that you can really conect with, and this CD has plenty of those.

Bottomline on this is that it's a steal, 28 songs for like (price). I mean come on... even you if you've never heard of any of these bands it's not gonna bankrupt you to expand your musical horizons for a (small price). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A review of 5 years in the street for amazon.com
This CD originally attracted me with some very well known names, but as I popped it in I found that the truth was the opposite of what I thought it would be. The Face to Face tunes were as always great! It's always good to here the god fathers of punk on a good comp. However most of the bigger names on the comp fell way short of the standards I usually regard them at. The Blink-182 songs were a joke... If I wanted to hear noise I would listen to Guttermouth. I was also dissapointed with the MxPx cover of blue moon. Unwritten law had a good song, with a very melodic progression, but it wasn't amazing like I would have expected. The hippos had a great live song on the comp, unfortunatley I lost my love for ska when the Bosstones decided to be an MTV band. I found that Automatic 7, and No Motiv had some exceptional songs, that really rocked!!! With blazing guitars and pounding drums, that came together to produce ear catching melodies. Some great smaller bands on Vagrant that you need to check out! The band I was truly amazed with was Nuclear Saturday. I found that the opening riff to their song "Better days" stuck in my head for weeks! Reminescent of the Descendants, Face to Face, and New Found Glory, with more technicality than a mozart symphony... they managed to make it sound smoother than a baby's butt, and more melodic than Buddy Holly. I can't say enough about this band... they are the shape of punk to come.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that good.
this really isn't that good of a CD. The good songs are by no motiv, far, gotohells, nuclear saturday, and down by law. Everything else is garbage. The only other good song is by face to face('resignation'). The blink-182 songs are so bad,it's funny. Their cover of Billy idol's "dancing with myself" is so incredibly bad,it's actually blasphemous!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Punk Mix: 4.35 stars
I originally bought this CD because of the 2 unreleased Blink182 songs. NOTHING could have stopped me from getting this, because of that. I also saw the MxPx song. So, I thought "ROCK ON", there is also MxPx. So when I bought the CD of course the first thing I played was Blink182's Dancing with myself. IT WAS TERRIBLE!!! It was a style of punk that Blink182 has NEVER done before. I have all their CDs so I should know. I grumbled and went over to Blink182's other unreleased song: Good TImes, praying that it would be better. It was worse. Next I played MxPx, sure that they wouldn't let me down as well. Well, they did. That song was so bad it isn't even worth listening to EVER! So I threw down it in disgust and popped in my also brand new Fenix TX CD (if only I knew there was tons of MUCH better songs on the CD).

So later on I gave it another chance. I listened to the other songs and I loved them! Nuclear Saturday and No Motiv, just blew me away with their Great music. If you liked Green Day's Dookie CD, or the Ataries then you will love Nuclear Saturday. If you like Strung out, then you will probably love No Motiv. This is a fabulous punk mix and essential for new punk rockers. However, be warned! Even though I am a Blink182 fan I am also a bug fan of underground punk (which happens to be what this is). So main stream punk rockers, this doesn't sound like Blink182 at all. In fact the only songs that you can even consider Main Stream is the 2 Nuclear Saturday songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Compilation
This is the best compilation I have ever heard. I didn't really know punk music before I bought this and I only recognized Blink 182 and Face to Face, but after listening to this, I never went back. All the bands on here were amazing, especially GOTOHELLS, Automatic 7, MXPX, and Face to Face.

5-0 out of 5 stars great melodic punk
I think this a great cd because it contains great songs, especially the NO MOTIV ones, "nostalgia" is a classic. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars HEY PUNK; LISTEN UP!
So you think you're punk huh? Well if you aren't sure about weather or not you infact are punk, then pick up this CD. It offers every damn variation of "real punk". Not only does it have the big name bands that will catch your attention and surely please your ears, it also has a great number of bands that will surprise and delight you. So some people are bitching about some bad songs on this album, there are 30 damn songs and about 28 really haul **. So sit back and discover your inner punk.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Punk Bites One
This album features the same variety as Punk Bites, but there are just too many bands on here that aren't good at all. Many of the good bands put some of their worst songs on this album also.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD, but too many "garage bands" that sound bad.
I am a huge fan of Pulley, and I came across this CD looking for a new Pulley album(I own 60 cycle hum and Esteem driven engine)....A NEW PULLEY TRACK!!! This is an alround great album if you are a punk fan because i gives you a bit of everything like, some hardcore stuff, some softer stuff and some horrible stuff. I suggest buying it if you are a fan of anykind of "new" punk. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars decent tribute to the Misfits
This is a pretty decent tribute to the almighty ghouls of punk rock.I don't care for too many of the band's on here , but I will admit alot of them did a pretty good job. Pennywise's version of "Astro Zombies" is sadly better than the original and is the best track here(and I can't stand Pennywise either )NOFX's "Last Caress" starts off well but then breaks off into their poor sounding ska style..it's still cool though , Snapcase's cover of "She" has a bizzare guitar sound echoing which adds to the erieness..but with horrid vocals , Shade's Apart's "20 Eyes" is very well done , and then there is Deadguy's "Horror Business" clearly covering the version from the Evilive album quoting Danzig's words from that recording. Hardcore acts Sick of It All and Earth Crisis do a brutal job to "All Hell Breaks Loose" and "Earth A.D"..the worst in my opinion has to go to Prong's take of "London Dungeon"..irrating noise and Farside's really lousy cocktail jazz version of "Return Of The Fly"...quite good...i recommend it .

5-0 out of 5 stars to who said that NOFX sounded like Green Day and Sublime
Not all punk is Green Day. Not all Ska is Sublime. Neither sounded anything like Green Day or Sublime, except for perhaps punk and ska pickings

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
Pretty well done cd, of course noone plays the original songs like the Misfits, but there are some really good bands on here (Deadguy, Snapcase, Bouncing Souls, Prong) that do a good job interpreting the songs in their own way. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some Good Music
Now I haven't heard the other Misfits tribute, Hell on Earth, but this one is really good. If you like old Misfits, have heard the songs, and like at least some of the bands on here, then this is definetly for you. What you have to remember when listening to this is that this is an album of cover songs. And the whole point of a band covering a song is so that they put their own unique spin on the song, not so they sound exactly the same as the other band's song. If they all sounded alike there would be no point to a cover song. As cover songs, these are all good. Snapcase puts She into a whole new perspective, Pennywise puts their punk into Astro Zombies. Prong is just outrageous with London Dungeon. Sick of it All makes All Hell Break Loose quite literally. Overall these songs put a great new twist on some of our favorite old Misfits songs. Misfits Forever!

5-0 out of 5 stars REALLY COOL, DIFFERENT
This tribute is very cool. From Pennywise's speed-punk version of "Astro Zombies", to Shades Apart's traditional-sounding "20 Eyes", to Prong's dark interpretation of "London Dungeon", to Earth Crisis' extreme version of "Earth A.D.", this cd rocks! I'm not really sure how to feel about NoFx's cover of "Last Caress". One part sounds like Greenday, another reminds me of Sublime, and the end sounds like traditional Misfits. Snapcase's cover of "She" is pretty cool. It has extreme instrumentation, brutal vocals, but still stays punk. Deadguy's "Horror Business", Goldfinger's "Ghouls Night Out" and 108's "Death Comes Ripping" are also very good. If you are just into old school Misfits, and not into modern punk, this is probably not for you. If you like old and new school Misfits and modern punk, then you'll probably like it. ... Read more
