5-0 out of 5 stars Rock the Vote!
Magnificent album. The 17 new unreleased tracks by huge punk artists like A New Found Glory, the Ataris, Sum 41, and others are actually poetry and really symbolizes how they feel about the President. The titles of each song say it all, Moron by Sum 41, God Save the USA by Pennywise, and Lion and Lamb by The Get Up Kids are poetry works of art.

Even though each song is under 3 minutes, which is disapointing to the punk fan, they probably mean more than some bands entire albums. It's amazing at how many bands came forward to support this album and speak out against Bush.

Fat Mike's two page introduction to the album really sums up the entire album and makes you question President Bush. This album just speaks volumes about Bush's politics. It doesn't matter if you're a Bush supporter or hater, you should definately listen to this album because it's a great work of punk art.

I love this album. It hasn't stopped playing since I bought it the day it was released. I am not a George Bush fan which is why I bought the album, but also because it is just so friggin amazing. I highly recommend this album to anyone and everyone.

To quote Fat Mike, I must leave my rambling as my brain hurts and I need Guinness.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than a political CD
It's pretty funny reading reviews of this CD, almost all reference this as an "anti-bush" CD. While I'll agree that most of these songs have a political theme to them, there are almost none that directly attack Mr. Bush. These songs attack his administration's policies, which is a completely different method. As opposed to ad hominem attacks, they convey a feeling of helplessness in our society. Before I review the music, it is pretty funny reading the word "ignorant" used to describe the bands, at least two singers (Milo from the Descendents and Brian Holland from The Offspring) have PhD's, and with Jello Biafra, Fat Mike and Mike Ness, you have more incredibly intelligent people. Just because someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't mean they are "ignorant".

Now onto the music, I would have made some different choices in terms of songs, but in general every song has its place. I would have liked to hear a Bad Religion song (Heaven is Falling is a BR song, but Kris Roe isn't Greg Graffin), and Strung Out's song "Mind of my Own" wouldn't have been a bad addition instead of "No Voice of Mine", but that's minor stuff. I'm impressed with songs by Sum 41 and Ministry, certainly not high on my list of great bands, but I have a lot more respect for them now. The addition of Denali was a great choice, unfortunately they recently broke up, but the exposure should get people listening to them, and the Descendents still sound great. It's nice hearing Baghdad (the original version of Tehran) by the Offspring, and Social D is always great.

I think this CD really helps show the potential of the American dream. You have bands that have some personal problems between them (Offspring & Pennywise for example), but they came together for a common cause. Many different record labels contributed songs, and it all worked out. In a country where less than 40% of eligible voters actually vote, anything that gets people thinking about issues is OK in my book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Some of the worst music I have ever heard
These are some of the crapiest collaboration of artists (if you want to call them that) that I have ever seen. These bands have no talent what so ever. These are the "punk" bands of America. This kind of music isn't even punk its crappy pop to make American teens hate the current presidency. I can't believe that this is the best you people could come up with to "rock against Bush."

1-0 out of 5 stars In other news:
*yawn*

In other news: "The 5th Dimension has released a new album speaking out against Bush and his friends that stole an election."

It's old, tired, untrue screed. The bands are tired, and besides; I don't pay them for their politics.

I'd sell mine if I thought anyone would benefit from it.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing collaboration of artists
Hey bigbrownlandmark! Could you possibly be a bigger idiot? Just because the artists on this album disagree with how this country is being run, it doesn't mean they're against America. They're against the government and how much they're screwing things. America is one of the greatest countries in the world, but it needs to keep improving, and instead it's faltering. And at least these artists are voicing an opinion, and not just rolling over and doing what they are told and believing everything we're told. The FACT is that the American people have been lied to about too many major issues in the pass few years (ex. Weapons of mass destruction? Where?). And how are we against America for being against Bush, when even fellow Republicans have gone on record saying how disgusted they are with the Bush administration's handling (or should I say mishandling) of the economy? You need to wake up and smell what you're shoveling. Besides, I doubt you bought or heard the album, but assume that they support terrorism. That's a typical conservative for you!
But back to the point, if you are mad at them for voicing their opposition, who's really anti-American in this situation? You, you close-minded automaton!
But beyond the whole political debate that is unavoidable when talking about an album titled "Rock Against Bush", this is one of the best collaborations of great punk/ska/hardcore artists in years! From old-school politically-charged Jello Biafra and Billy Brag who were totally in their element on this album, to the younger bands like LBC's Rx Bandits... this is a must-have for any true punker or anybody who can at least appreciate punk rock! I still think NOFX should have put their song "Idiot Song of an A**hole" on there just to annoy the right-wingers that much more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST SKA/PUNK SAMPLER OUT THERE (vol. 2)
OK, no one's done a track-by-track review yet, so here goes:

1. Intro- Just a couple seconds of snarling cats. Yeah. -/10

2. Gang's All Here- Anthemic, enjoyable drinking song: what else do you expect from DKM? 9/10

3. Riding the Region- Also known as 'The Region' off Push 'n Shove. Great trad-ska song that'll be stuck in your head for days. 10/10

4. If the Kids Are United- There's been a lot of complaining about this Sham 69 cover, but I think it's just as good as the original. Anthemic, but really bad lyrics. 9/10

5. Nocturnal- Not a huge fan of psychobilly. At least the country influence is muted here. Pretty good song. 8/10

6. Can't Stand It- As another reviewer said, the dancehall/dub thing isn't their best. Check out their earlier stuff. 8/10

7. Tell Me What You're Feeling- Dancehall artist Mad Lion teams up with Rancid. The result: not too good. 6/10

8. Goin' Out- Decent shout-along song. Don't like this band much. 7/10

9. Bad Gadjit- I LOVE THIS BAND! Their blend of ska, blues, 1950s rock n roll is amazing. 10/10

10. LA Girl- Pretty good song, but her voice is grating. 8/10

11. X-Ray Style- Not gonna rate this one. Too unique. World music influences shine on this mellow song. RIP Joe Strummer.

12. Misty Days- Reggae legend Banton and Rancid: should've been better. 6/10

13. The Fool- Solid trad-ska from Slackers side project. Hepcat's Greg Lee sings. 9/10

14. Bruk Out- The best dancehall/Rancid collaboration. A lot of people disagree, but I love it. 9/10

15. Have the Time- Anything by the Slackers is outstanding. 10/10

16. Crack Rock Steady- YESSSS! From the streets of New York comes that crack rocksteady beat. Funny song (just don't take it seriously). Best from CV (too bad they broke up). 10/10

17. Forget Yourself- Forget this track. Forget this band. 5/10

18. Crack City Rockers- Choking Victim with a new drummer and new name. Still keepin that crack rockstaedy beat. 9/10

19. Fools Gold- Solid. Great band, but sometimes sound like Clash wannabes. 9.5/10

20. Rent for Sale- By INDK. Skwert and Ezra of CV's new band. Check em out. 8.5/10

21. Flight of the Phoenicians- Take the vocals and horns out of Hepcat's sound and you get Vanity 5. Good instrumental, but sounds a little weak. 9.5/10

22. Life Won't Wait- Excellent ska song. Great way to close the album. Buju Banton guests. "The vision is the new world order..." 10/10

I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to find some good ska and punk. However, I would've liked tracks from Pressure Point (a great oi band on vol. 1) and SOMETHING from King Django. BUY IT NOW!

5-0 out of 5 stars from a true skalar
well...i have to say...this cd is in many ways...better than the first compilation.....but anything done by both vic ruggiero of the slackers and rancid...is sheer genius....really though.....the only downpoint of this cd are the distillers contribution...all i can say for that one is.....dont quit your day job mrs.armstrong...actually..i can also say.....its a good thing your married to him...cuz youd be nowhere...hahahaaa....buju banton comes in with his throwdown..soundin as ras as ever........dropkick as always..delivers...and choking victim comes in with the crack rocksteady beats....and hepcat does their sh!t like no one else can....the slackers....aahhh the slackers....if you appreciate good old fashioned rocksteady/reggae/ska.....youll lovem...i cant tell you how....not only does the entire band have soul...but the singer...vic ruggiero..also writes for other bands on this compilation......and others on hellcat and other various labels.....his words are sung with truth and dignity.........these and many other bands unnamed make this compilation a splendid buy...i do recomend it to anyone who appreciates punk and ska and the wonderful way they blend.....

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Mix
This is my favorite out of the Give Em the Boot series. I think it's the perfect mix of punk and ska, and the track selections were excellent. It's one of my favorite compilations to listen to on the road. There isn't a song on it that a generally skip, which says a lot for a compilation cd. There is great variety, but every song is good.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad-And Not Good Either!
This comp in neither good nor bad.It starts off great but kinda slowed down in the middle and it gets great back at the end of the tracks.Great songs from Dropkick Murphys,Hepcat,Choking Victim and The Slackers. If you own any song from these band, then don't buy it-but if you don't,you can purchase it and listen it once it a while.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best punk rock compilations around
Of the three give em the boot cd's, this one is the best. Almost every song is good, and with the variety of styles, such as punk, reggae, and ska, it makes a good party cd. A step above the first Give em the boot cd, and way better than give em the boot 3....a must have for any punk fan.....a classic compilation album! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Atticus: Great for (punk) rock lovers
If you like Blink 182, Box Car Racer, and Jimmy Eat World, then you will LOVE this cd (except for the dead animated bird on the cover). If you are trying to find a cd with rising bands and great songs, buy this. ATTICUS is meant to be played loud (but not obnoxiously loud). I think I was drawn to this cd because of these reasons: Blink 182, great price for 24 full length tracks), and the rising bands. Heck, if you buy this CD, you'll be some of the first to hear these bands before they got "famous". You could say "I knew them back when......"

5-0 out of 5 stars Kick Ass Rock CD!
As many Blink-182 fans know, Mark Hoppus was one of the people who made Atticus Clothing. Now, Atticus Clothing sponsors many bands such as: Blink-182, Box Car Racer, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World, Midtown, Good Charlotte, and many more. Atticus: Dragging The Lake includes songs from 24 bands that Atticus sponsors. The CD includes just about every type of rock: Punk Rock, Pop Rock, Metal Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Skater Rock, and others. Great CD for any kind of rocker, wether your a punk, metal, pop, hard, ect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD

1-0 out of 5 stars Let It Go
You will only like this type of music in highschool. Once on your own and not sorrounded by whats 'cool' to listen too, u will no longer listen to 20-30 somthings write about the angst they felt when they were in school. Nowadays if you can play bar-chords you can get on a label. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars a compilation of some new school bands on FAT WRECK CHORDS
the cd is good. if your into mostly new school you'll like this a lot. there are a couple of bands that i'm not into so that's why i gave it 4 stars. no use for a name, propagandi, deisel boy, wizo,me first and the gimme gimmes, nofx, frenzal romb, strung out, and good riddance, are some of the good bands that i like that are on it, the other bands are hi-standard, snuff, lag wagon, tilt, & bracket. (snuff & lag wagon are on it twice.) and i really don't care much for them but none of them actually suck, that's just my oppinion. you'll also find some entertaining pictures (along with captions) in the jacket. check it out, it's purdy good!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsone Fat Whreck Chords punk
This is by far the best cd compilation I own, all the bands are from Fat Whreck Chords, and everysong is awsome, I was given this cd by a friend and she didnt want it, but why not man?! this cd kicks ass, NOFX's older years, hi standards awsome, all the bands rule! Lagwagon is awsome to, BUY THIS CD MAN

4-0 out of 5 stars Fat is good.
Good collection. Remake of "California Dreamin'" not as good as I'd hoped it be (really like the original Momma's and Poppa's) but "Country Roads" just kicks it. Thinking of buying stock in Fat Wreck Chords.

5-0 out of 5 stars Punk Rock Greatness!
If you love melodic punk rock, get this CD! All the songs on this compilation are great! This CD is over 5 years old though, so these songs have been out a while. Chances are you've heard them on the full length CDs from each band on here. There are a few exclusives though. Check out the song "Vincent" by NOFX...probably my all time favorite NOFX song!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!
Survivial of the Fattest to me is probably THE best of the Fat comps. and is definitely one of the best cd's I've ever bought in my life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very cheap, one of the best Punk-O-Ramas
Punk-o-Rama 3 is a brilliant album. It's a single cd compilation. It has some of the best names in punk on this album, like Pennywise and Rancid. It has 27 songs on it, so you are bound to like a few songs on it, but this isn't a problem actually as 99% of the songs are good, but it does have some really bad ones too. The album is like a taster for all the bands contained on the cd as it is only $4 .99, which I don't think, is bad at all. This album is a good way to see which bands you will like.
This also contains one song that you can't buy anywhere else, for example NOFX's "We threw Gasoline on the fire and now we have stumps for arms and no eyebrows" which is a really good song .

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Punk Compilation!
This is a well made compilation. Some of the highlights are Nofx-We threw gasoline on the fire and now we have stumps for arms and no eyebrows" and Bad Religon-You. This is a crowning jewel for the ever-growing punk o rama series. It adds a dash of ska with Voodoo Glow Skulls and 1 against 1. With such classic punk bands as Nofx, Pennywise, Ten Foot Pole and Rancid you cannot Fail in buying this CD! A must have for all punk rockers.

3-0 out of 5 stars One of the better Punkoramas
The punkorama CDs are all worth your money simply because they cost under 5 dollars, if memory serves. (Except for #1, which is full price for some ungodly reason, and #2 which is only a few dollars more, and is worth the money as I think it is the best of all.)
That said, this is one of the better Punkorama comps. NoFX shines in the first track with one of my alltime favorite song-titles (which, I have to say, is not done justice by the song at all): We Put Gasoline on the Fire and Now We Have Stumps For Arms and No Eyebrows. World's on Heroin is a good track. As are Alright, Lozin' Must, and even Everybody's Girl (and I am NOT a Dwarves fan.) As always happens to compilation CD's, this has fallen to the depths of my CD shelves somewhere, but not before introducing me to a few bands I wouldn't have heard of otherwise, which I think is the real reason record companies release these CD's [at the price]: they hope you'll go out and buy full-priced CD's by the same bands and they'll make the money back in spades. (Either that or they don't bother paying royalties to the bands, which I can't back up with any evidence, but is probably also the case.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Punk at it's best
One of the best cd's ever!!! this is one of my favorite cd's it has songs by all my favorite bands: Pennywise, Bad Religion, and of course, NOFX! If you like punk and want some right now, go out and buy this cd.

4-0 out of 5 stars hm ....
I don't know if it's just me, but this punk compilations get rather tiresome, after a while. This was my fourth Punk-O-Rama, and all I can say is I don't enjoy it as much as I did my first two. It is though, still a great CD, in that there are a lot of great bands, a lot of great songs, and a lot of tracks. And, on top of that, this CD or number five are probably overall the most punk Punk-O-Rama's. Still though, I've gotten a bit tired of Punk-O-Rama. If you feel the same as I do, check out some of the Hopelessly Devoted to You series -- a very different punk compilation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars yea, it's punk!!!!!!!
Five stars for Punk-0-Rama's great arrangment of awesome modern punk songs. With bands like Guttermouth, NOFX, ("Bath of Least Resistance," a song you won't find on their latest CD Pump Up the Valuum), Voodoo Glow Skulls and a song by Pennywise and Exile that you won't find anywhere else how can you resist? I listened to this CD about a million times, and I never get tired of it. I don't agree with a couple of Punk-0-Rama's choices... like tracks 15 and 16, but the CD is still awesome. I haven't stopped listening to it. Buy this CD. It's great music, tons of listenable tracks.

4-0 out of 5 stars At least it's better than Vol. 2
This has some good songs. However, some of the usual Punk-o-rama line up let me down. Millencolin, let me down. Pennywise did as well. Which is pretty surprising cause they are generally great bands. However, the Guttermouth and Osker tracks were AMAZING! Which is also very surprising because generally those bands usually aren't that great. I discovered a decent song by a newly discovered band: Deviates. The Bad Religion song was amazing but I already had a recording of that song. The Pulley song was amazing as well. And NOFX, the [worse] unreleased songs are supposed to appear in the Fat Music Series, Not the Punk-o-rama series. Oh well. Pick this up to complete your collection. However, this just doesn't live up to the previous Volumes: 3, 4, and 5. Pick up 4 and 5 first. If you don't like them that much I strongly suggest you stop there. You don't want to land up with CDs like this.

3-0 out of 5 stars decent cd 4 punk fans
i think punk rock is awesome. this cd has a few good punk songs but u could listen 2 a lot of it buy it u wont regret it but it is not as good as the first 5

5-0 out of 5 stars this cd got me into punk
when i looked at this cd on the cd rack, it was only 5 bucks so i bought just for the hell of it. so one day i put in that cd and i was blown away. songs like blackeye, can i borrow some ambition, bath of last resistance, true believers, coming down with me are all great. I LOVE THIS CD. ITS WORTH IT TO BUY IT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Punk-O-Rama.....Enough Said
This was the first Punk-O-Rama CD I listened to, and boy I was not dissapointed. Most of the songs on this CD are the type of punk I would listen to, Quite fast and energetic. The best song on the CD has to be either NOFX - Bath of Least Resistance (NOFX being the greatest punk band of all time, of course), or Beatsteaks - Let me in. I heard the Beatsteaks for the first time on this CD and there absolutely bloody excellent. Obviously, The Cd is made complete with songs from the Descendents, Pulley, Pennywise, Dropkick Murphy's. The only let down on this CD is Noise Conspiracy, there song on this CD, well plainly sucks i'm sorry to say. But overall this CD is one hell of a good listen if your into punk. That's all, oh yeah, buy it! bye ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Punks Learn How To Loves Ska On This CD!
As we all know that Hellcat records is owned and runned by Lars from Rancid. Well being a punk, I know that right now, all that is considered 'punk' is either A)This main-stream crap which sucks badly or B)All these emo and hardcore/metal bands appearing in the underground right now. So being a dude waiting for some new punk band to change everything in the punk genre...they havent made it.
So for these past few weeks I have been I've been looking over some ska-punk and punk-ska bands. So I thought, I'll look into real ska bands....let me tell there are literally thousands of them out there waiting for some dude/dudette to be favored by. I had no clue where to start on picking out albums to buy. So most people look into comps for samples. And then I came across this little prize of joy.
Give 'Em The Boot Vol. 1 is probably the best ska comp that includes awesome punk bands too. Though the first track by Rancid wasn't their best. When the Slackers came on with 'Watch This' I felt so relaxed. When Hepcat's 'Dont Wait' came on I was already singing along. By the time The Pietasters 'New Breed' was playing I was up dancing. I won't list the other bands and songs, but most punks and people only hear about bands like Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Operation Ivy, and The Suicide Machines. Though, those bands are considered to be the only good ones, screw you! There are tons better ones. Plus, all those bands have sold out or lost almost all the orginal members.
But over-all kids, stop listeing to the things considered punk(as in sell-outs or emo/hardcore bands)get your soul out there and be a rude boy. So if wanna get to know good ska bands buy this CHEAP cd!

5-0 out of 5 stars wow! the only compilation i've ever liked!
Tim and Brett have outdone themselves! I don't know how they did it but somehow they managed to round up the very best ska and punk bands out there for Hellcat Records (which has the same distribution as Epitaph so hopefully some of these deserving bands will start getting some international credit!) I don't like every song but I like the majority of them, which in and of itself is really rare for me - I usually don't like compilations at all. More importantly, some of these songs absolutely rock. Hepcat have got the sweet trad ska sound down pat; classic oi-sters The Business and Boston pub-punks Dropkick Murphys (I love that name) make fast and explosive contributions; Rancid of course gets things off to a spectacular beginning with the bleak but booming The Brothels. Also check out The Gadgits and the Swingin' Utters for some quality music that makes all that lame recycled alterna-pop-rock Matchbox 20 junk on the radio sound like the sewage that it is. Forget the punk-revival, forget the ska-revival, forget the music industry's fickle trends - this is where the music industry *should* be at, even if they're too stupid to realize it!

And at a mere 6 bucks.... you just don't have any excuse for not owning this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Punks should steer clear, but SKA FANS LISTEN UP!!
(For those of you unfamiliar with the Give 'em the boot series, it is a sampler series of bands on the Hellcat Records label. The label has an eclectic mix of punk/hardcore bands and ska/reggae/dub bands)

Now that that's out of the way...

Here's the deal:

1. With the possible exception of Rancid and Choking Victim, the punk bands on Hellcat Records suck. It's boring, unoriginal, and not even that aggressive.
2. The ska/reggae/dub bands, however, are EXCELLENT and amazing. It's very mellow and relaxing, yet very exciting and catchy. It should have you dancing along in no time.
3. Of the 3 titles in the give 'em the boot series, the 1st one (this one) has the least punk and the most ska.
4. Therefore, this is the best Give 'em the boot by FAR and with its dirt cheap price, you have no excuse for not owning it if you consider yourself a fan of ska in any way, shape, or form.

4-0 out of 5 stars Get 'em
This album and it's brethren are an excellent way to be introduced to a lot of cool bands. I've gone out and bought a number of albums based on what I heard here and on Vol. II + III. If you like punk and ska with a dash of psychobilly, then this is your teaser!

5-0 out of 5 stars Intro: Mandatory
This comp set the ska/punk record straight in 97 and set the tone for the next several years... what a Loud Hard Fast tone it was. I ahve shared this common experience with many new friends from all parts of the country: getting this comp and having our minds blown back in the day. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So Many Great Songs for So Little $!
If you're a fan of the Punk-O-Rama series, #5 is no different. If you like TRUE punk rock, and you're willing to part with 4 bucks, then you'll get 28 songs from 28 great punk bands like NOFX, Pennywise, Zeke and Guttermouth. The great thing about Punk-O-Rama is that several of the songs are ONLY available on this CD, which makes the price of the CD worth it in itself. This CD is well worth the investment...if you like TRUE punk rock...no Lit or Blink here.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Punk-O-Rama Ever
i have all 7 punk-o-rama's, and this is definitely the best. as always, the CD has a great song by NOFX. the millencolin song was addictive. this band called vision made what was perhaps the best song on the album. guttermouth, recently signed from nitro, featured a great song from their new album. osker, who have unfortunately broken up after an interesting career that ended when they could no longer find a drummer, did an awesome song. H20 made one of the best songs, but they no longer feature a hardcore/punk sound. instead, somehow, they have been reduced to pop-punk tatters. madball, practically their brother band, followed H20 up well with a similar sound, but luckily they have not followed their counterparts down the drain. i dunno what refused were on when they wrote their song, but its actually pretty good when you're in the mood for some crazy mix (however, not punk at all). voodoo glow skulls made an interesting little number that is not punk at all either but its still good to listen to (a little corny though). pennywise's song was one of their best ever. the hives song was great (too bad they're not underground anymore - too popular). other good songs were by all, T(I)NC, rancid, dwarves, 98 mute, bouncing souls, satanic surfers, pulley, union 13, new bomb turks, and agnostic front. so as you can see, this cd was the closest to a perfect compilation you will ever find. but there is no such thing as a perfect mix, so you're just gonna have to settle with this cause there will never be anything better. POR5 inspired me to buy CDs by NOFX, guttermouth (i now have every single guttermouth album, including old 7-inches), osker, 98 mute, H20 (unfortunately i bought their new one, not knowing that they had undergone their drastic change. but i got a t-shirt free that says 'PUNK U', so oh well), dropkick murphys, pennywise, pulley, the hives, and agnostic front. now THAT is a good compilation. you must buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars sweet
This is by far the best punk o rama... best songs are pump up the valuum, poison, better be women, guilty by assoiciation and prob some other ones... good comp

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Punk-O-Rama Cd Ive heard!
Ive heard 4, 5 , 6 and this one is the best one. Songs Like Pump Up The Valium , Slow Motion Riot , 1.80 down , Panic , Riot Riot Upstart , and Good Rats make this cd a classic. And for only 5 dollars you can own some of the best modern punk rock. I usually only listen to classic punk but this made me realize that modern punk rock is good too. Get this and you wont be dissapointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars You've tried the rest, now try the best...
I have listened to all of the Punk-O-Ramas, One through Seven, and have been thoroughly impressed by most of them. However, this particular POR is the best. 28 tracks, and only one doesn't belong (Refused, but that's just becuase it's not remotely punk). That is a remarkable accomplishment for any compilation, and what makes this one better is that all the other songs just plain rock. All the songs, apart from the refused, are worth the six bucks I paid for this while looking for checkered shoelaces and whale hightops in Zumiez. The second best part of this CD is that I bought it new for the price I usually pay for used CD's at my favorite used music (vinyl through plastic) stores. The best part of this CD is that I was able to discover some new bands which really rock. I listen to this CD while taking math tests, riding my lovely city's public transportation system, talking with friends, doing homework, researching stuff for my college-prep classes, balancing chem equations or even sleeping. It's that good. I won't tell you which tracks are best, that duty is left up to the individual listener, but my favorites are spread all over, from NOFX to Millencolin to New Bomb Turks to Agnostic Front, with many in between...I genuinly love to listen to this CD. I definetly think this is better than the latest release, POR 7. Buy it if you have the money...It's worth it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must have CD for Fat Wreck Chords Fans!!!
Fat Music For Fat People is the first compilation put out by Fat Wreck Chords. It was previously only available through mail order, but I hear it's now available in stores even though it was originally released about 4 years ago. Underground decay :( Reguardless, it's an awesome CD with foot thumping music from reputable bands like Propagandhi, NUFAN, Lagwagon, Face to Face, Good Riddance, Tilt ,and of course NoFX's version of Eddie Murphy's "Kill all the White Men." This song will bring a grin to NoFX fans. The Tilt tune is actually demo, it's pretty awesome, no wonder Fat snatched 'em from Lookout!. All of these bands are cool, some better than others. Anti-Manifesto by Propagandhi is so good it could have supported the five stars for the whole CD! I would recommend this CD to all punkers that enjoy the new school sound.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fat Music For Fat People
This CD is SOO cool!! I love all the songs! They are all good efforts. I especially like Mr. Coffee You Have gotta hear that song! Other than that this is a great CD!! buy it today!! You'll Enjoy it

5-0 out of 5 stars some information seems wrong
"Fat Music For Fat People" realsed much earlier than what it shows on amazon.com, according to my memory it was 1994 or 1995 or maybe earlier than the year I remember.

4-0 out of 5 stars Skakin'
I bought this disc a few years ago. It was on the counter at the check out for dirt cheap and I thought "what the heck. I'll give it a shot." I loved every minute of it. Then I lost it. Missed it so much that I'm buying another.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of two fat comps worth bothering with.
I remember buying this and thinking how brilliant the short lived band guns and wan*ers sound on this near perfect cd, there are only really about 3 throw away tracks on fat music for fat people which are stung outs in harms way, 88 fingers louies track blink and of course NOFX's kill all the white man which is my opinion so dont get all cynical. Even the tilt track sounds good on this fat comp and thats a welcome rareity so if you're going to pick any fat comps up my advice would be this one and live fat die young which is probably a little bit better than this one but it's cheap and value for money. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Oi! Oi! Oi! Unite And Win! Stick Together, Punx And Skins!
Oi is skinhead punk and this release pays tribute to this greats from "back in the day" . The featured bands cover their favorite songs by the original streetpunk bands, incidently all from the UK (apart from Crucified by the DC lads Iron Cross). A great selection of modern punk/hc bands, including Dropkicks, Rykers, Agnostic Front, SOIA, Stampin Ground, Stigmata, Blood For Blood and KYI all cover some damn classic tracks, by oldies like Angelic Upstarts, Sham, Tubies, Business, and Oppressed . As it's the real Oi, REAL Oi is what it means. None of that W.P. bonehead [stuff] but just straightforward punk, that we all remember and love. Onno cromag and the legend that is Roger Miret (Agnostic Front) compiled it and they do a great job. This gets my award for the "BEST PUNK COMPILATION OF THE 90'S"

5-0 out of 5 stars worthy tribute
A worthy tribute to some of the greatest oi/street punk bands of all time. Each song captures the impact and aggression of the original , and keeping real with the originals style..and not trying to pop it up or whatever. Higlights are Agnostic Front covering Cock Sparrer's "Take Em All"..Dropkick Murphy's covering Sham 69's "Hey Little Rich Boy"..and Oxymoron covering Blitz's "New Age"..must have for all street/oi fans

5-0 out of 5 stars Oi!Oi!Oi!
Great oi/street punk album. It's compiled by hardcore legends Onno Cromag and Roger miret(agnostic Front). A must have for all hardcore fans!

5-0 out of 5 stars every song is great
i bought this cd mainly for the agnostic front and sick of it all tracks, but ended up loving every song on it. this is a must for any fan of street punk/oi music. very well produced and very catchy songs. i strongly recomend this. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS is punk!
Awesome. This is a fabulous compilation from one of the most widely respected punk labels around: Epitaph.

This CD is so cool, it almost doesn't feel like a comp - you can put this into your CD player and listen to the whole thing, just as you would with any album.

This disc caters to all tastes in punk. It really delivers in terms of skate punk, with fabulous tunes such as SNFU's "Don't Have the Cow" and Pennywise's "Perfect People". In addition, there's Oi!/Street Punk sounding tunes, such as Rancid's "Sidekick" and TSOL's "Code Blue" (which is quite a disturbing, but all-too hilarious sarcasm-driven song). Oh yeah, and let's not forget Me First and the Gimme Gimmes' AWESOME remake of the classic tune, "Only the Good Die Young".

If you like punk, give Punk O' Rama Vol. 2 a chance. Pick it up, and check it out! I really didn't even like punk all that much when I scooped this up off the shelf of Newbury Comics (all you Boston-area punx will know this place) but I LOVE it and can't get enough! Hey, you can't lose! It's only 4 bucks!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Compilation CD Known to Man!!!!!
The Punk o Rama series isn't ever one to disappoint, and this proves it. The second disc in the series, it's definatly the best. most well planned mixes out there.

Why do I love this mix so much. I like it because it features two of my favorite songs "Perfect People" by Pennywise and "Code Blue" by TSOL. The album begins with the 34-second speed demon "Coffee Mug" by the legendary band The Descendents. Then it goes into an amazing group of songs from well knowns like NOFX, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Pennywise, TSOL, Rancid, and Bad Religion, but also features such unknowns as Poison Idea, Dead F**king Last (DFL), and SNFU.

So pick up this album now. It's a classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best punk o rama
this is a great cd unlike volume 8 this one is more aggresive, fast, rock your jocks and drink beer punk rock not trendy sounding punk rock. TSOL, Poison idea, the Joykiller these bands should be on all punk o ramas. vol 6,7 and 8 are a waist of money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best of the series
I find this compilation the best in the PunkORama series, with PunkOrama #3 coming in close on number two. It's got some great songs and not only those from (then) more recent records, it's even got some oldies! The best songs on this comp. are IMHO those by The Descendents, Pennywise, Down By Law and Bad Religion. It's got some bad stuff, Joy Killer being the best example of this. Eew. That sux. For the rest it's great but onyl four stars since I hate compilations.

1-0 out of 5 stars ****GREAT BANDS*** Songs are all GARBAGE
I love Punk rock, and I have a large collection of CD's..I love almost all the bands on this CD, but I STRONGLY feel that this CD is not even worth the [money]...Buy Punk-O-Rama 5,6, or a Nitro records compilation. THIS CD IS TRASHY...!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Hi my name is Julie
I like this web site but it needs something and I think it needs
more punk bands, and since I already signed in I would like to
suggest some bands. If I could, I suggest that you put pennywise, pasta rocket, 1208, etc. I think you know which CD im talking about. In case you dont its called "off the wall" and I think its volume 4. Im not sure because I dont know how to read
roman numerals, but the first song is Enemy by Pennywise.well thats it.
thank you for your cooperation,

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to the world of punk
This album is a collection of songs (most unreleased) played at warp tour. If you are not sure if you like punk, or if you do not know which bands you like, this gives you a preview of all of them. It includes most popular punk bands and gives you a taste of what they sound like. This is also an excellent album for the collector, for it includes many previously unreleased songs. The CD includes an incredible performance by Flogging Molly and A New Found Glory, which alone are worth buying the cd. This is much better than any punk compilation I have ever heard and is recommended to the new born punker.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great stuff
I'm pretty annoyed that I'm missing the warped tour but despite the anger I decided to bring on more sadness and buy this CD. I was very delighted, thus making me very unhappy. Oh well. The cool thing is, all except a few songs are unreleased, and while that could just mean "songs that weren't good enough for the album" they're all great (some better than others but they're all different artists). Unfortunately, this CD is all punk, which I love but it would be interesting if they put in some of the reggae bands and stuff. Still, this is a great compilation CD wether you go or not

5-0 out of 5 stars Warped
I don't know why everyone doesn't like this CD. The songs are all unreleased and awsome. Greatest punk bands. Best songs: Rancid-Sick Sick World
Anti Flag-Don't give up
AFI- A Winter's Tale
Vandals-SWM
Mighty Mighty Bosstones-Providence is... (this should go on their next cd!)
Casualties-Fight For Your Life! (Saw them at the warped tour, fans went crazy over this one!)

Also check out the new 2002 one

4-0 out of 5 stars AFI owns this comp
Well I have to say that AFI made this comp worth buying. A Winters Tale incorporates everything about AFI that is great. Tsunami Bomb also has a strong showing and Bigwig had an awesome song. Rancids effort was sub par but they make up for it in their real albums

5-0 out of 5 stars This CD is almost as good as the real thing!!
I went to warped tour last summer, and saw most of these bands, and loved them, and loved the cd almost as much, but in the last few weeks I have totally fallen in love with the ataris song on this album...the recording quality sucks, but it is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life...it is worth buying just for this and the new found glory song, but all of them are great! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Still fails to please
I have never really liked comps as i always have to get up and skip tracks which i dont like and there is usually a few, much as i like some of the bands on this fat comp it still just does'nt work really i mean some tracks are great on it it's just a bit of a let down thats a waste of money considering i bought it for £15 when i should have been £5. Having said that the previous fat comp is alot better than this.

4-0 out of 5 stars In Mattersville you can do whatever you please.....-Fat Mike
..oh yeah, I'm just another sorry kid who bought this compilation just for the NOFX song, but who cares, the album is pretty awesome,I loved the wizo song and dillinger plan were pretty awesome too ,I feel a lil' dissapointed for the gimme gimmes but not that much really, but Mattersville took all the awards, just cuz it's funny and with a rare old school punk scent, but if ye like good fat comps, buy Live Fat Die Young,it's a way better,

5-0 out of 5 stars Uncontrollable Flatulence, awesome name, awesome CD
This album is definelty a stellar compilation done by Fat Music, though I'm not familiar with Fat Music. With bands such as Less Than Jake, Nofx, Anti-Flag, and Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, this album is priceless. My personal favorites are Generation Lost, Friends of the Enemy, Your Worst Mistake, and Faction.

5-0 out of 5 stars fat music 6.. amazing compared to the rest only good
1) lawrence arms. its good.to short there other stuff is better but it is non the less a good solid song.
2) Propagandhi. this song was disappointing to me bcz i happened to love there song on fatmusic 5 and i came expecting another amazing song and i got this instead
3) Mad caddies. i love the caddies and in this one they decided to use the horns , i dont think it has a flogging molly feel to it at all and the song i can listen to for hours
4) dillenger four. amazing song i love the four they r a great band wit great punk edge big fan of this song
5) lagwagon. one of my favorite bands, they have better songs then this one but non the less another amzing song by them
6)strung out. probably my favorite song on this cd..great great lyrics and an amazing band to begin wit i am gonna go check out and buy their new cd.
7)rise against.. i love this bands hardcore punk style the song is very good i think it even might b as good as "join the ranks" which really kicked ...

8)NUFAN i love them, but this song very poppy the entire "hard rock bottom" cd was disapointing except acouple songs (such as letmedown) where r the cds like More betterness??
9)avail. a good song i dont know to much about the band other then wats on the fatmusics but from wat ive heard i like alot
10)swingin utters. decent song not up to par wit some of their other stuff like "i follow"
11)less than jake. amazing band one of my favorite..and amaizng song...not their best or even close to it but that doesnt really matter
12)frenzal rhomb. i really like these guys the song is good i like prognosis f** u more tho

14)nofx. very funny decent song not amazing like some of their others very mellow but still good song
15)sick of it all. im not so into these guys..i did like "i believe" but i just dont feel this one as much
16)wizo. ok wat r they doing speaking in english???...they r amazing but this song flatout [is bad]
17)good riddance. great song i like it alot they r a good band i respect them greatly. i especially like the end of this song
18) me first and the gimme gimmes. i love the band but this song [is bad] they choose a terrible song to cover i cant listen to it at all bcz my cd A.D.D.kicks in and i have to turn it bcz it doesnt catch my attention at all

4-0 out of 5 stars Hey, it's a comp, give it a shot.......
Since this is a comp, each band and song warrants its own little snippet of a review....

1) The Lawrence Arms - I really like this track. I can't get enough of it at only 1 minute and 20 seconds. It reminds me of their great material from the Chinkees and Shady View Terrace splits. Hope their next album has more like this one.

2) Propagandhi - From their most recent album, more of a rock'n'roll track than a punk track. Not the greatest song they've ever made, but a good one to rock out to.

3) Mad Caddies - Thankfully, they chose to include their talented horn section more on this song. Still, I can't really get into this song as much as I've liked their past material. It's got a Flogging Molly/Dropkick Murphys vibe going, which indicates to me more of a turn toward this style, which they executed well on "Duck and Cover."

4) Dillinger Four - This ... is genius. Period. Not even one of the better songs from "Situationist Comedy." Still completely and utterly amazing.

5) Lagwagon - A well-developed and thorough song. This is more skate-punk than their recent poppier offerings. I'm getting excited already for their new album.

6) Strung Out - This song took a while to grow on me, but I really enjoy it. There's a guitar riff that I can't get enough of. Songs like this make me buy Strung Out albums even though they've dropped the punk edge of "Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues."

7) Rise Against - The other track from a Chicago band delivers as much as the Lawrence Arms. The verses sound a lot like System of a Down, but the singer brings forth great passion. This song alone is worth the cost of the CD.

8) No Use for a Name - Well, there's a great bass riff to start out. That's about all the positive things I can say. The song just falls into the same poppy ... NUFAN's been giving us. C'mon guys, break up if you can't offer us anything better than this, I mean it.

9) Avail - The intro is a bit hard-edged, but the rest of the song is really good melodic hardcore. It's beginning to persuade me to check out their new album ("Black and Red" is a great song too).

10) Swingin' Utters - I've never really been able to completely get into these guys. Their song on "Live Fat, Die Young" was really good, but this one's unimpressive.

11) Less Than Jake - One of my favorite bands, this song from their worst album. Has a few high points, and the lyrics are nice and uplifting.

12) Frenzal Rhomb - This band has always been one of my guilty pleasures. This song is a great bubblegum pop song with dirty lyrics. It has a great guitar riff. Man, I wish these guys could make an entire solid album.

13) Anti-Flag - Another track from these guys that sounds the same as all the others. As much as I like and respect them as musicians, it seems like they've stopped caring. This sounds exactly like some other comp track that I don't remember the name of because it sounds exactly like some other comp track ... you get the picture. At least #2 Chris sings; he's got a great voice.

14) NOFX - This isn't as rockin as we're used to, but the lyrics are really funny. "At the end of our cul-de-sac, Davey Havok's house is painted black." Lots of in-jokes, a la "San Francisco Fat," but this is just plain fun to listen to. A keeper for sure.

15) Sick of it All - These guys aren't really my bag, but they have a great live sound, very powerful. This song isn't enough to convince me to like this band more, but a solid track nonetheless.

16) Wizo - English? Why are they singing in English? Not a great song either, too quirky for its own good. I used to love these guys, but ... now I don't know.

17) Good Riddance - One of the better tracks from their latest. A good song from a good band.

18) Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - I can't really criticize them for a poorly written song, since it's a cover, but this is really, really boring. My attention span is too short to wait for this clunker to develop. The intro is just plain painful.

So, the conclusion? An all-around solid comp, some high points (see Lawrence Arms, Rise Against) and some lows. I was rather disappointed that Dillinger Four, Propagandhi, and Good Riddance, three of my favorite bands, period (there, now you have some perspective for my perspectives) didn't have new songs here. Pick it up and judge for yourself, I just don't have a life so I write detailed reviews of comps. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Mix of Talent
Vagrant has done it again, mixing a great lineup of songs into a cheap comp. Highlights include songs by Hot Rod Circuit, Saves the Day, Audio Learning Center, Dashboard Confessional, Hey Mercedes, The Anniversary, and a song that I actually like by Alkaline Trio. I'd have given this cd 5 stars, but the songs by the Get Up Kids and No Motiv, two band I like, weren't exactly the greatest. Also, A song by Reggie and the Full Effect would've been nice. And Vagrant's lineup still includes Face to Face, so that automatically means that at least one bad song is on this comp. I do recommend you buy this however, because it's cheap, good, and we all have a skip button for when those face to face songs sneak up on us.

2-0 out of 5 stars heh
It's a shame most of these bands aren't good anymore. At least No Motiv, the Anniversary and the Alkaline Trio hold it down. Otherwise, Saves the Day is mediocre like they've been recently, Dashboard Confessional is, well, words I can't use here, the Hot Rod songs aren't their best, Hey Mercedes is a sad, sad devolution of Braid, and things like Audio Learning Center and Viva Death are just embarassing. Oh yeah, one last question, what exactly is the word "hardercore" referring to? Just a simple thought.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, Great Compilation
This CD is just so great. I picked it up for the Saves the Day B-Side "Ups and Downs" (which is the best song on the cd and is worth the 5-10 bucks you'll spend). I was pretty familiar with some of the other bands, but some I had never heard. Every band is represented with a strong track (or two). The music ranges from soft emo, to almost punk, and everything in between. I don't like to "classify" music, but this is some great emo. This Cd is a super way for people to explore more and hear some different bands. Vagrant is a great label, and this is a great comp. A..., must buy for all music fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet CD
This cd is one of the best present emo compilations. It has everthing from the hardercore emo to the more mainstream emo such as Saves the Day and Get Up Kids. Some of my favorites on this record are "Hands Down" by Dashboard Confessional, "nightengale" by saves the day...and tons more. I would have paid 25 bucks for this thing. but i got it for 5. If you are even reading this review, i recommend purchasing this cd

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Bands! Great Buy!
For [the price], this is a great CD to add to your emo collection. I probably would've paid a full $15 for this great compilation. Luckily, Vagrant realizes that it's better the get the word out about their bands then to rip off everyone with insane prices. If you know one of these bands, more than likely you know about the rest of them. Saves the Day always puts out quality songs. Dashboard Confessional's contributions are classics. One from the latest album and another from the latest EP (Hands Down). The only bands on this CD that I've never heard of before Viva Death and Rocket from the Crypt. Still...all great music if you like Emo/Punk. And for [the price]? You'd be stupid NOT to buy it! Get one now! ... Read more

Punk rock has long been known for its short, loud, and snotty anthems, but this is taking things to extremes. None of the songs found here reaches the one-minute mark. Some are among punk's most esteemed anthems, while others are casual additions to the canon. In either case, even if you don't like one tune, well, there's another one coming in just a few seconds. This isn't the best introduction to these bands. The Descendents, for example, are punk-pop titans who and not at their best when aping the hardcore set. However, where else can you find Less Than Jake, Nerf Herder, Blink 182, Green Day, the Mr. T. Experience, Gwar, the Circle Jerks,D.O.A., Agnostic Front, and the Muffs all on one CD? There's no shortage of top-shelf names here, and more than a few surprises will keep you hopping. --Rob O'Connor ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars a few bad songs, more then 90 good ones
It's the newest project from one of punk rock's most innovative minds today, Fat Mike... 101 bands on one album playing 30 seconds-and-under songs. The album taps the scenes of over ten countries, and leave it to Fat Mike to collect the most varied lineup of punk, old-school, hardcore, emo, ska, and radio bands of any compilation. So unplug your phone, remove all distractions, and lock yourself in your room before listening or else you might miss half of the bands. Don't plan on doing anything afterwards either, because your attention span will be completely shot.

There are a lot of cool tracks on the comp, mostly from bands that have mastered the art of the short song, such as the Descendents. The lineup features everything from legends like Bad Religion, Black Flag, and the Subhumans to today's popular punk bands like NOFX, Pennywise, and the Bouncing Souls. But with such a screwy setup, you're bound to get plenty of bands that don't really take the project seriously, and there are some disappointments. Out of 101 bands, though, what did you expect? There's enough good stuff that you can skip over the crap and still get your fix. Plus, the full-color booklet features a little something from each band, including as pictures, contact information, lyrics, or random band jokes. It's hard to take this CD seriously, but it's a good opportunity to hear a wide mix of punk bands or just sit around with some friends and see who can name the most bands (or count which bands can swear the most in under 30 seconds).

5-0 out of 5 stars The funniest CD on the face of the earth
I was surfing around the net one day and somehow I came across Short Music For Short People. 101 bands doing 30 second songs?... This had to be one of the best ideas for a CD that I'd heard in a long time. Plus it was out on Fat Wreck Chords so I knew it couldn't be horendously bad. So, without really thinking about what I was doing, I bought it. I was not dissapointed by my purchase. For a CD that costs [$$$], this CD is a work of freaking art. But it's also much more than that. It's a compilation of some of the best ska, hardcore, and pop punk bands out there. Some on Honest Don's, some on Lookout!, some on Epitaph, some sell outs, and some on the almighty Fat Wreck Chords. Its got hilarious stuff by Fizzy Bangers, Blink 182, Nerf Herder, The Mr. T Experience, Gwar, Descendents, The Vandals, NOFX, Wizo, Bouncing Souls, H2O, and a bunch of other bands. Its got those amazing guys of The Living End doing an amazing song. Its got The Queers doing a song about hate. Its got Less Than Jake thanking a bunch of people. Its got those Chicago boys 88 Fingers Louie. Its got those funny guys from Honest Don's who call themselves Chixdiggit! Its got Good Riddance. Its got The Bouncing Souls. Its got Lagwagon. Its got Green Day. Its got the Offspring. And lets not forget Bad Religion. So basically its got more bands then I can remember. And its only 50 minutes. Cramming 101 bands into 50 minutes? Genius.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential Punk Comp.
It might not be the best punk compilation (check out the Peace/War double album or the Dischord box-set or the Punk-O-rama series for some alternatives) but its definitely an essentaial one. And not just for minutemen fans either, anyone who likes fast, loud punk should take a look at this.
Obviously, its good for anyone with a short attention span, but some of the songs are good enough for you to put them on 'repeat' and listen to them 14 times. It's got huge variety (blink and Black Flag, GWAR and The Descendents, AFI and Wizo....) so theres gotta be something you'll like. Even if you hate some of it ( I still don't know what to think about the Real McKenzies's track) it'll be over in 24 seconds.
Obviously the huge variety is an incentive to check this out, but theres also a whole lot more quality than you'd expect of an album with 101 songs (99 tracks, ... punk fans......). How many albums do you own that can claim to have 74 great tracks?

5-0 out of 5 stars best compilation of all time
Jesus christ, this is amazing(except for that ballsuckingly bad spazz song). Fat Mike is a genius for thinking this up!
However, it is Missing a few key contributions (in order of importance):

millencolin
propagandhi
mighty mighty bosstones
face to face
mxpx

5-0 out of 5 stars great idea and great music
This cd has tons of essential bands (the famous ones) and tons that have music just as good. If not for the music, then buy this CD because it makes for excellent drinking games. Just take a swig every time a new song comes on and you'll be smashed within the hour. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Could music get any better??
As if the music of the 80's wasn't good enough, the lovely people at Vagrant Records (of California...not to be confused with the Vagrant Records in Seattle) have made the songs we loved (those of us who grew up with them) even better. Though I can't compare this album to the first Before You Were Punk Album, because I don't have it, I can give my unbiased opinion of this one.

I think it is wonderful, except for a few songs I don't care for, such as the butchering of "Every Breath You Take" by Strung Out (which is an understatement). The songs are as peppy as the originals, but turned up a notch with the infusion of punk. You can't go wrong with bands like RFTC, Gotohells, The Get Up Kids, MXPX, and the Hippos contributing to a compilation album.

Final word - if you like 80's music and you love punk, this one's for you, baby. My #1 song pick on the album: "Close to You", a cover of a Cure song by the Get Up Kids. Absolutely fabulous.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eh.
As if one 80's nostalga comp wasn't enough, Vagrant brings round 2 of your favorite punkers remembering the past. This star-studded comp contains big names such as NOFX, MxPx, The Get Up Kids, and Lagwagon. Maybe it's cause I'm a bit too young, but I don't recall ever hearing half these songs. There's only about half the songs that jog my memory on this CD, which are: the Suicide Machines' decent cover of "What I Like About You", the Hippos' quirky, MOOGish-sounding "Our Lips Are Sealed" by the Go Go's, the Bouncing Souls note for note rendition of "Don't You Forget About Me" (seriously, it sounds almost identical to the original; hearing it made me want to go watch "The Breakfast Club" again), the Gotohell's simple punk cover of "Just What I Needed" (I think this song is a staple for any halfway decent punk band to cover at some point in their career), Strung Out's completely horrible version of "Every Breath You Take," and ending the CD there is ALL's weak cover of "Rebel Yell" by the first punker I ever saw on TV, Mr. Billy Idol. I don't know if I should've paid full-price for this, but it is fairly enjoyable, if not for the music then for the hilarious 80's yearbook photos inside.

3-0 out of 5 stars it's ok
The only thing that really shines on this album is Strung Outs cover of every breath you take. Anyone who says this song blows is a complete moron. For the rest of the songs, ehh...., a lot of bands could have picked better songs to cover. Overall buy it used or discounted.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Some pretty good bands on here, although the 80's songs are a little more obscure on this one from the last. The Get Up Kids and Strung Out both add some punch to the songs they cover.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not as good as the first.
I am sad to say that this album was a tad flat in comparison with the first Before You Were Punk. This hurts to say because I am a fan of many bands that appear on this album. The problem is that they don't convince me that these songs were done due a personal mission to revive them. It feels more like they were offered a few dollars to record a song and then go back to the bar. Yes folks, I am saying that this album lacks passion. If you like the eighties and new punk I would advise one to pick up the first release. You will have more memories haunting you and your mind will ache from singing them over and over in your head. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally, tasteful punk
When you can't find a hit song of your own use somebody elses. This CD is a collection of 80's hits redone by some of your favorite punk bands. But this is different. Instead of the hard core misconstrewing of your favorite songs, these bands have done it tastefully. Granted they will never be as good as the originals, but this album unites the 80's jumper wearers and the spike haired punks onto a plain of nirvana. AH! This is an album, however, that both can enjoy. One of the best ways to revive a song is to cover it, and these bands can be commended for doing an excellent job.

2-0 out of 5 stars Why wasn't this a better CD?
It was such a great idea. Take songs by New Wave's keyboard pounders and put them in the hands of high-profile punk bands to see what new shapes they take. Great idea, sad execution.

What makes a good cover tune is some degree of respect for the original, the desire to take something you have some affection for and make it your own. Most of these tracks sound like the bands want to beat the songs until they stop twitching.

There are maybe three good tracks on this CD; Pretty in Pink, Peace, Love, and Understanding, and the stellar Walking in L.A.(which makes a song I've never been able to stand into a great tune). The remainder fall into three categories: 1. Sounds just like the original, 2. Sounds like the original sped up and played while drunk, 3. Sounds nothing like the original, but horrid. Particularly painful are Good Riddance ridding "I Melt With You" of all of its hummable charm, and the usually better Blink182's ritualistic slaughter of "Dancing With Myself."

I'm at a loss to explain the good reviews this album has. Maybe if you like your punk dirty, raw, and screaming, this fits the bill. But if, like me, you prefer more talent and vocal skill thrown in the mix, you're better off skipping this one and picking up Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, or even the far better sequel to this disc.

4-0 out of 5 stars this is awsome
oh my god how cool is this. i never thought i could listen to some of my favorite songs and listen to my favorte kind of music at the same time. yes i admit it i love the originals of these songs. come on i grew up with my parents listening to rod stewert, the culture club, and who ever sings the original pretty in pink(it has slipped my mind but i know i have the record down here some place). any way this is one of the best cds i own.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for the 80's Dwellers
If you remember the eighties, which you should, you will enjoy this album. As a punk fan and a 80's retro freak I was delighted by the songs and the way they were redone for this cd. The songs are all old standby favorites and the bands who cover them are some of the brightest stars in modern punk pop. If you are a fan of bands such as MXPX then this album will fit into your collection well. If you are more of a Minor Threat listener you will be better off skipping this one. Grab this one and think of the years gone by when a mullet was still cool. If you feel real retro grap a copy on tape...how old will that make you feel?!

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT PUNK MUSIC !
This is not punk music. there is a word for the category that this all belong sin but i cannot write it in the review. it begins with an s, ends with a t, and has IT in the middle. Its a bunch of poppy upbeat happy music taken from the radio. it has nothing to do with punk rock. this is the kind of compilation you should buy if your trying to educate yourself on what punk rock isn't. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fast, Loud, and Hard. What more could you ask for?
This is a great CD of classic punk for those who were there, or those who want to know. What's not to like about this? The songs are undeniable classics of American punk. If you don't like this CD, then you are definitely looking in the wrong genre. It delivers the goods; fast, loud, hardcore punk. The enegery is pure, strong, and may even have you end up slamming your head against the wall in a brutal, frenzied effort to channel the pure speed and force of Mission of Burma.

1-0 out of 5 stars album is terrible dont get it
This album is not worth your money. Do not get it...it suck

5-0 out of 5 stars almost essential...worth P.O.A. for Dicks, Bad Brains, MDC
Seriously, wanna here unbrideled passion, the likes of which has yet to be rivaled in any musical statement before or after? Listen to the Dicks Hate the Police, and feel the chills up your spine (whether you agree with their message or not). MDC plays the classic John Wayne Was a Nazi, and by God, you'll believe em!! Pay To Cum by the Bad Brains is still the best thing they've done, and the original "fastest song ever". Buy this! (or acquire it somehow!) ... Read more
