Remember the days when every band from Bon Jovi to the Fixx embraced keyboards like a long-lost lover? Whether you consider rock's tickling of the electronic ivories the good ol' days or the devil's spawn will determine how much you are going to like a good part of Eve 6's Horrorscope. Once again, the band enlists producer Don Gilmore, who expands the group's sound with dense, unsustained vocals; basic Van Halen riffs ("On the Roof Again," "Amphetamines"); and a rhythmic urgency that resurrects images of '80s group the Call ("Rescue," "Promise"). Eve 6 recorded their debut barely after the ink had dried on their high school diplomas. There's little doubt that the talented young trio holds tremendous promise (the band members can write head-bobbing hooks blindfolded), but in terms of fresh songwriting creativity, Horrorscope falls short of the efforts of similarly precocious contemporaries such as Ash and Supergrass. This is largely Gilmore's album, and when Eve 6 find the confidence to toss aside the studio-trickery crutch and the pop-metal security blanket, they should grow into a formidable rock band. --Beth Massa ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Eve 6's Horrorscope CD
I never really got into Eve 6 until I saw them live and met the guys. They were super ultra nice and so I decided to pick up "Horrorscope" which had just came out two days before. I was amazed. This CD has the same type of power-pop tinged with a slight punk edge as their previous one, but songs like "Here's To the Night" and "Rescue" show more depth in Max Collins' lyrics, and the whole album makes it apparent that Jon Siebels and Tony Fagenson can also play their instruments. The whole CD is infectious; I love every single one of the songs and can listen to the entire album non stop. It is like a much improved polished version of their self titled release with more maturity that comes from graduating high school. How many bands can actually write catchy songs with so much depth and insight? These guys have a long way to go, and Horrorscope proves it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very strong showing that will grow on you.
Well... I pop the CD into my player and give it a spin. As a devoted fan of Eve6 because of the intelligence and thoughts shown in Eve 6's self-titled debut I had been waiting for this for a long time.

12 tracks later I had decided Eve6 had sold out, I was wrong. This CD is golden and amazing, the deep thoughts aren't as prevalent as in "Eve6" but the songs make up for that. The song structures are amazing, and don't seem to work out on paper but Max's [leads vocal] voice is so smooth it all works out.

Get this CD and you will hear perhaps hear the funniest song you will hear this year, "On the Roof Again". But other great songs include promise [without a word that can't be played on the radio it loses much of it's magic, hard to believe isn't it?] and... well I have yet to find a song that I don't enjoy.

This CD is much lighter than their titled debut but it shows Eve6 can write both heavy and lite lyrics.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible: A Let Down By A great Band
This album is terrible. If you want real Eve 6, check out their debut and It's all in your head. I couldn't believe that this was Eve 6. A big dissapointment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD
This CD is great. I love Eve 6, and while I personally don't like this CD quite as much at their other CDs it's still some really REALLY great music. I would definatly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars their best album
This is my personal favorite EvE 6 album, but I think the musical quality is the best work that they've done out of their three releases. They don't limit themselves and while the bass is still the same constant driving thump (what else do you expect when the singer plays bass too?) the other guys really expand. On the opening track, "rescue", there is use of a keyboard, which adds an interesting element. Throughout the album there are syncopated rhythms and amazing guitar melodies that serve as more than simply backing. The songs have a bit more of a juvenile twist, but they address issues very pertinent to most of their fans including girls, co-dependence, girls, one night stands, and, oh yeah, girls. All of the songs on here are great, some of my facorites are "on the roof again", "promise", and "amphetamines". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rocks my face off!
Blindside is the greatest Christian rock band ever, and anyone who says otherwise is criminally insane (Just kidding). This is one of those albums I can listen to from start to finish without skipping any tracks. I love 'em all! I just saw them live not too long ago and it was one amazing show. I thought I was going to have a seizure I was flipping out so much. This cd is addictive like some sort of drug, just without the horrible effect. The songs are full of positive and inspirational lyrics that are even better with Christian's pulsating vocals; he can hit some pretty crazy notes, and his screams rip your face off. Buy this if you want a perfect album. Heck, go buy their Elektra/3 Points debut "Silence" as well, it used to be my favorite album until this one came out. God bless you all!

3-0 out of 5 stars Stop staring, small child!
First of all, maybe it's just me, but the album cover is just a little bit frightening.

Anyway, Blindside's fourth album is definitely above average, and, in my opinion, better than their last effort, Silence. Whereas "Silence" pretty much sounded the same throughout the entire disc, with the exception of the standout title track, Blindside definitely opts for a more varied sound on "About A Burning Fire". From the mellow funkiness of "Shekina" to the straight-up metalcore of "About A Burning Fire", to the modern rock/techno synthesis of "Where The Sun Never Dies", to...well, whatever the hell "Hooray It's LA" is supposed to be, the album manages to avoid the repetition that, to some degree, plagued their previous efforts. Still, that doesn't translate into Blindside's best effort. Though "All Of Us" is a classic modern rock/hardcore anthem and "Shekina" is somehow brilliant, "Swallow" is simply awful, and "Hooray It's LA", although it features Billy Corgan doing something or other, is...well, terrible. "Eye of the Storm", "About A Burning Fire", and "Where the Sun Never Dies", are all pretty good, and the rest of the tracks are definitely decent at the last. However, the lack of cohesion works against the strength of "About A Burning Fire", and the lack of more standout tracks is also noticeable. This album definitely deserves something more like 3.7 stars, but I couldn't bring myself to give it a 4 under Amazon's rating.
Incidentally, I have no idea what other reviewers are talking about whenever they say Blindside tones down the Christian emphasis in their lyrics. Moreso than Silence does the band's faith come across in this latest album, and the appropriate props for staying true to their beliefs definitely go to the boys in Blindside.

5-0 out of 5 stars great summer cd
I don't care if this cd came out during the winter, pump this stuff up in your car while on the highway and your going to have a hell of a time. This is blindsides best effort. Eye of the storm is the best song of the year so far and the last song, About a Burniing fire has an incredible emotional charge at the end. That song leaves a great impression on how the cd is as a whole.
Other great songs are follow you down, all of us, and shenika, but there definitly aren't any fillers on this disk

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good!
OK, I love Blindside. However, this album is nearly pop. Well, ok, just kidding, but if you have been a fan for a while, you will agree that this cd is by far the most singy, with far fewer screams. Good cd, but if you really like screaming, buy A Thought Crushed My Mind (my favorite cd), if you like nu-metal/pop-rock, buy Silence (probably one of the best nu-metal cds on the market - if you like nu-metal you'll love this).

5-0 out of 5 stars Yup, Blindside's On Fire
I've never been a huge fan of mainstream rock or anything, but with their latest, Blindside gave me a run for my money. And I wouldn't ask for a penny back either. I had been hopin' to buy one of their earlier albums, but I could only find their second album in a real, tangible store (never really bought anything off the net) and it cost a little much.

Didn't have huge expectations for this cd. I thought they might fall off with this one before even reaching their true peak, but of course, they proved me completely wrong.

Their older stuff was a little more creative musically and vocally, but more often than not the experimentation led to a large number of boring, sometimes repetitive tracks. So overall, this was much better.

I would have to say that these are Christian's best vocals on this cd, the best I have heard in a good while. Musically, this cd is also very good. After only a few listens, I was left wanting on the whole, but everything began to pull together in my mind, but soon enough I began to see the music for how good it really was.

Lyrically, this is their best work. At some points it has a very personal feel. And even though the much-hated "Hooray, it's L.A." may seem rightfully so, after reading the lyrics the song became bearable, perhaps even enjoyable. And "All of Us" is truly worthy of being the lead single.

Blindside is back and better than ever. This is coming from a avid underground follower, mostly of rap/hip-hop, and more importantly, of anything truly worth listening to. ... Read more

After validating every stripe of teen torment when working as masked members of Slipknot, vocalist Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root offer fans a chance to explore the sounds of their former, failed hard rock band, Stone Sour. Formed in 1992 and retired in 1997, Stone Sour played soulful, metallic hard rock in the vein of Alice in Chains, traces of which later appeared in looser, guitar-oriented Slipknot numbers like "Left Behind." The album opener, "Get Inside," and the snaky "Choose" kick with the agility of Pantera, while the mellower "Monolith" and "Blue Study" rely on Taylor's nasal vocals for emotional punch. Stone Sour probably wouldn't have made it out of Iowa in 2002 without the platinum pedigree of its erstwhile members; still, this is a respectable package of monster riffs and dynamic ideas. --Ian Christe ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent First Album
Corey Taylor and James Root sure do know how to make great music, as evident by collaborating with two of metals best bands, slipknot and stone sour. The stone sour CD is nothing less than amazing. Corey shows he can balance melodic singing with hard screaming. "Orchids," the second song on the album, is a good example of such. The album boasts a lineup of diverse songs, from the heavier than hell opening track, "get inside" to the mellow song "bother." Although the sound quality is oddly sub-par, it sort of gives stone sour a sound of their own. This album is worth every penny and I urge you all to support this great band and buy a copy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ok-if you've never heard slipknot before
the first song i heard off this album was bother. i complete 180' turn from slipknot. i thought wow this might be a good band. then i heard the rest of the cd. it all sounds like slipknot but with less caffeine and less teenage "i hate the world." corey doesn't scream as much and attempts to sing. anyone who has actually seen slipknot live knows that he can't sing worth a damn despite how the studio (and antares digital pitch corrector) makes him sound. he can scream pretty good though, which is over done as it is. i thought it was also kinda stupid how corey and jim sold out on stone sour in 1997 to join slipknot and then want to reform stone sour. every time i hear a song it keeps reminding me of the huge gimmick that is slipknot. so if you want to hear more of the same from corey and jim or becuase you are obsessed with slipknot and have to have everything related to slipknot then this is a cd for you. you ought to be listening to some heavy bands with talent such as rammstein, pantera, or old sepultura.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stone Sour Rocks!
I think Stone Sour is an excellent band but some of the songs were too soft. Maybe you can already tell that im a slipknot fan. Get Inside-10/10 best song on the CD. Orchids-7/10 eh .... yeah. Cold Reader-9/10 cool song! Blotter-8/10 pretty cool. Choose-9/10 this was the 2nd best on the CD. Monolith-7/10 2 soft. Inhale-8/10 cool song. Bother-8/10 soft but the lyrics are cool. Blue Study-8/10 cool. Take a Number-8/10 cool. Idle Hands-9/10 this song was cool. Tumlut-7/10 it's ok. Omega-8/10 not a song i think that Corey Taylor is just reading Poetry or Sumthin'?

3-0 out of 5 stars I Like Get Inside...
I realize that Stone Sour is a side project and Corey and Jim's original band. But I didn't think it was that great. It is however a lot better than Joey's side project the Murderdolls and Shawn's To My Surprise. One reason why i gave Stone Sour 3 instead of 2 is just in the comparison of the other 2 Projects. Stone Sour managed to unleash some great heavy songs like Get Inside and Idle hands. But their isn't much on the CD that makes me come back for more. I rarely play this CD at all anymore. It's unfortunate that Corey and James seem to have brought the Stone Sour influence into Slipknot with Vol. 3 the Subliminal Versus. It's just not the same anymore. Once again I realize that Stone Sour is a Side Project, but if you're a Slipknot fan and you also like stuff like Slayer, Sepultura Etc. (like me!) than this won't flow or fit with your collection of music. If you like something like Staind and stuff like that as well as Slipknot than I'm sure you would like this but like I said, its not for everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars My whole view on this
Ok ... first thing I want to say is people have to stop seperating people who listen to stone sour and slipknot as if we all wear black and hate the world . No we don't ... quit being ignorant ... and for the cd. Yes ... Corey from slipknot sings in this ... but quit comparing the two ... two different bands ... two different sounds . The cd starts off with Get Inside which is a very good start off to a cd that only has one flaw. That one flaw is the song Blotter ... the chorus is melodic ... the rest though is just sorta thrown all over the place ... the best two songs on this cd though in my opnion are Orchids and Bother ... It's not terribly surprising that G. Love and Special Sauce were tapped to fill in for Sugar Ray when the band dropped out of Woodstock '99. It's not simply because of the smooth, muscle-shirted frontmen, but also because the same kind of easy soul, funk, and rap influences wash over their stronger cuts. The calypsolike "Rodeo Clowns" on Philadelphonic feeds on that radio-friendly vibe, all sunshine and broken hearts. Unfortunately, that cut is one of the few high points this time out. While it's nice to see G. Love step away from emulating Will Smith, which sank Yeah, It's That Easy, the answer to stronger material is not to try and channel Jamiroquai through Love's nasal Philly-soaked stoner raps ("Dreamin'"). But even more than that, this boy needs to get away from spacey soul jams, and fast--"Relax" sounds like G. fell asleep with a mouthful of syrup and woke up in love. --Jason Josephes ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Listening
Philly born and bred artist G. Love artfully blends all sorts of modern styles to deliver his own brand of uptempo music. G. Love delivers a blend of urban hip hop and soulful acoustic blues in this fresh and timeless album. His infinite musical influences create a easy mix of sounds with a funky/cool fusion of blues-based playing, rap vocals, jazz and rock. "Philadelphonic" features groovin' tunes like their upbeat single "Rodeo Clowns." Enjoy the sweet, folksy, guitar picking "Give Me Some Lovin'." Or try the energetic, stylish "Dreamin'." Another good track is "Kick Drum," a relaxed, chilling song. With subjects of love, loss, and fun, this album is perfect as mellow yet funky background music.

3-0 out of 5 stars Last Track Brings This Album From 1 to 3 Stars.
I give this album 3 stars for one reason-- the last track, "Gimme Some Lovin"-- which, in my opinion, is a wonderful tribute to Bob Dylan's "Buckets of Rain." To me, this is the only song on this album that actually stands out. I am a huge fan of G-Love, but he sold out on this one big time.

"Philadelphonic" is a huge disappointment after "Yeah it's That Easy," which was by far the best G-Love yet- from start to finish. The great thing about G-Love is that his music seems to mature with every album he produces and there was a noticeable growth from the first to the third albums. "Philadelphonic" takes a step backwards with songs that are not only mainstream MTV hits, but a bit too reminiscent of the early '90s Beastie Boys. The biggest problem I have with this album, is that it's missing that raw quality which makes G-Love, well, G-Love.

The artist quotes Bob Dylan as his "teacher" and my advice to him would be: Bust out Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks," give it another good listen and try to produce more songs like "Gimme Some Lovin." We won't be sorry.

2-0 out of 5 stars ok
OK I will admit I haven't heard a band quite like this in a while. They sound good but the lead singers lyrics are not that good. His voice is nice though, but their kind of music would never get played on tv or radio. No wonder why I never heard of them. The band plays a cool lounge sound but like I said before its a little too unique to really appriciate.

5-0 out of 5 stars go listen - this is a GREAT album !
I have discovered this album 2-3 years ago during a trip to Canada ; since then, all my friends have bought it and it is in heavy rotation in all of our homes.
Do yourself a favour : go and buy it ! It is innovative, groovy, soulful, clever, and litterally shouts musicianship, great songwriting and band tightness (it's obvious these guys really play TOGETHER ; I went to see them at a show in Paris : wow !!! what a band, and what a show ... one of my best concerts ever).
In my humble opinion, WAY superior to "Yeah, that's easy" from the same band, which is a nice CD but nowhere in the same league than Philadelphonic. Again GO and buy it. NOW. Peace.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Nice CD from a Great Band
With G looking a lot like Elvis on the back of this cd, things seem to be kicked into highgear on this outing, offering many lovely cuts that are some of the best songs the band has ever conjured up with their magical melange of rap, folk, blues and rock. The cd gets started on a good note with No Turning Back, a typical rock song, but tinged with the band's special recipe of sauce. Dreamin' follows up as an even stronger track. It's uplifting and merry, encouraging the listener "Dreams are like fish, you've got to keep on realin'." Roaches is another good track, serving as a prelude to the best song on the disc, Rodeo Clowns. This is the single from this cd, and for once, I could agree with this selection as the single. It's undeniably smooth and catchy and just really sweeps you off your feet into a dancing sunset party, "but the women keep on dancing with the clowns." Numbers is a spiritual track that I enjoy immensely as well. These opening 5 songs make up an astoundingly strong quintet to commence and sustain the music of any cd. The cd begins to lose steam a bit after numbers, but there are a few other good songs like the humorous Kick Drum, and Honor and Harmony. Philadelphonic, overall, is a really good record, and I think it's well worth your time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Degradation Trip is finally here.
For all of us who have already purchased the single CD-edition of "Degradation Trip" it may seem like this is an unnecessary listen, but please let me implore any previous fans of Jerry's work, solo or with Alice, to find a way to pick this up. The full 25 songs flesh out his musical ideas and make for a much more satisfying listening experience. In fact, to those drawn to Jerry because of his potential to be one of the more original guitar/vocal composers in the history of heavy rock music, I'd say that the great majority of the inspired moments of "Degradation Trip" weren't on the original release. There are twelve additional songs that, as a whole, represent the darker side of his music that defined most of Alice In Chains' songs, but were almost entirely absent from "Boggy Depot" and only hinted at in the original 13-song release of this album. Jerry is a very apt rock musician, capable of churning out up-beat rockers and countryfied ballads, but he's at his best when he's doing his own thing: slow, unpredictable, heavy dirges of melancholy rock and roll. His power chord rockers like "Anger Rising," "Angel Eyes," and "My Girl" were well represented on the first release, but to whomever wanted more of the stuff suggested with "Psychotic Break" and "Chemical Tribe" it's here in spades, and now his other musical tunes offset the overtly depressing music nicely, instead of dominating the mix. If it wasn't for the arena rock production of most of the songs, this album might be perfect, but I'll settle for two hours of often amazing music, thinking how lucky the rock world is that Jerry keeps making his music while the rest of the mainstream hard rock world imitates.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, Jerry Cantrell's completed epic...
The original release of Cantrell's Degradation Trip was a single disc containing 14 of the 25 songs he wrote for the album. Now, Roadrunner has chosen to release the entire two disc set that Cantrell originally envisioned when he wrote the album. The results are outstanding. The tracks from the previous release are all here, as well as a bunch of new songs which are really good as well. They don't sound like rejects. Most of the new material is just as good as the original songs. My favorite new tracks are Owned, Pro False Idol, Pig Charmer, the instrumental Hurts Don't It, and the closing ballad, 31/32. The entire album fits together extremely well and feels far more complete then the original release. If you liked the original, you should definitely check this out. On the other hand, if you didn't like the first release, then you shouldn't even bother with this. I think it's an amazing album, but it's not for everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very moving experiance
I had to listen to this CD a couple of times before it caught fire with me. I don't know what Jerry Cantrell was going through when he wrote this, most likely an exorcism with coming to terms with what was happening with layne. Needless to say a very well writen and moving CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just breathtaking...
I'm really confused...I _want_ to comment this album but I can't...I can only repeat what other(s) have said - the Wall of hard rock. There's only theoretical chance anyone could ever go behind that Wall...and that anyone can be only Jerry. Just listen this music. Listen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Declared Greatness
All they asked yout to do was "Listen". If theis labum wasnt the best over all I Can't tell you how much your wrong. One of the other reviewers said that there was a texture to this album, and there is but the unity and (may i be so bold) collective artistry on this album makes it the stronghold of the band a Lyricaly superior album to the to previous but also a more introspective album as well soul searching and ming dredging as it explores the happy and sad moments of life in songs themselves. the band trusly had the right stuff in the mix as this album was composed... With powerful ballads as "Link" and "Giving" exciting your mind and pushing you to study the world around you. "Precious Declaration" and "Crowded Head" leaving no doubt in your mind where the band stands. And "Disciplined Breakdown" tearing up the popularity Charts. Leading The Pack Collective Soul has a Disciplined Breakdown which places them above the Best!

5-0 out of 5 stars They keep getting better. Great effort.
The first time that I heard 'Precious Declaration' I knew that I'd buy the CD which turned out to be a great improvement over the groups 'Collective Soul' album.I borrowed a copy of 'DB' from our town library and I did not want to return it. So naturally,I bought it. The local radio station also plays 'Listen' which is also OK. With the exception of the title cut, all selection are outstanding. I'm surprised that I don't hear other selections on the radio; which is on all day at work. 'Maybe','In Between', and 'Forgiveness' have the potential to keep this album on top of the charts for a long time. 'Crowded Head' is unique with the way the group segues the inner voice. I look forward to driving to and from work so that I can play this CD. It's too bad that my commute is only fifteen minutes. BTW I'm pushing 52.

5-0 out of 5 stars Possibly the Best of Collective Soul
I first heard of Collective Soul with the single "Shine" and I was a little impressed, but not enough to buy the CD. When "Disciplined Breakdown" came out, I decided to give it a shot. WOW!! Talk about major growth as artists!! I was amazed at the complexity and layers of their music as well as the deepness of their lyrics. "Precious Declaration" is one of my favorite songs to rock out to, "Listen" is very artistic pop/rock, "Maybe" is one of my favorite songs - speaks of the feelings you experience of losing someone close to you - beautifully acoustic guitar here. "Full Circle" and "Blame" are gems of pop/rock music as well with very intense lyrics. This was one of the most under-sold and under-rated CDs of the 90's and remains one of my most-played CDs even today. I highly recommend this band to people who value deep lyrics and artistic music... Collective Soul does not disappoint!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I love this CD and Collective Soul. They are absolutely amazing

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
Collective Soul's third release, and my personal favorite, is Disciplined Breakdown. The album didn't do as well as some of their others, probably due to the fact it is lighter and slower. However, this release shows a new level of creativeness and songwriting. Every song on the album is musically and lyrically amazing. Maybe is a cry of hope to a lost friend, Blame questions the use of anger("question your answers, truth has no anger")and critizes those who would tear others down, Forgiveness finds the writer searching their heart to learn to forgive, and In Between tells of two people who are divided because of their fear of confrontation. Those are just a few examples of the lyrical genius in this album. Overall, this is one of the bands best releases, not to be missed out on. ... Read more

Amazon.com essential recording

On this, their debut recording for a major label, Canada's quirkiest musical troupe introduced the world to their unique blend of scathing humor, skillful musicianship, and flat-out fun. Packed with songs that have become anthems to their adoring fans, Gordon is practically a collection of Barenaked Ladies' greatest hits. This CD features "Brian Wilson," an homage to the biggest Beach Boy and an exploration of the relationship between art and neurosis; "Be My Yoko Ono," a musician's entreaty to his winsome muse; "Box Set," a relentless indictment of one-hit wonders and washed-up rockers; and the staple sing-along "If I Had $1,000,000," which you can walk around humming all day without getting bored. Literally every song on this disc features the intelligent lyrics, tight arrangements, and astonishing vocalizations that BNL have made their stock-in-trade. It's a winner all the way around. --L.A. 5-0 out of 5 stars PLAY IT ONCE, YOU'LL LOVE IT!
Listen...put down the STUNT CD(which is BNL's 5th CD, by the way) and pick up GORDON. This first album is one of the music industry's best kept secrets. It is an infectious album with great lyrics, solid music, and loads of fun. It shows that BNL could play any style of music they want...After the first 5 songs, you'll think you're listening to a greatest hits album. From the classic "Brian Wilson" to the jazzy" Hello City" to the peppy, funny "Grade 9" and "King Of Bedside Manner"...you will not be disappointed! And listen to their lyrics, you'll laugh, you'll love it. Other highlights include the classic "Enid", the very funny "Be My Yoko Ono," and ofcourse the signature sing-a-long "If I Had A Million Dollars." Yes, the new CD "Stunt" is excellent, but there are 4 other great Cd's out there....including one of today's best live albums..."Rock Spectacle." This is not a one hit wonder band...they are finally getting the attention they deserve. Get Gordon...it will be one of your favorites. In a time when artists sell 2 million copies because of one song on an otherwise awful record, Barenaked Ladies is a refreshing bright spot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Their best studio release, still.
The Barenaked Ladies' first is still probably the best of their four studio releases. The album fluctuates from brooding and dark (Wrap Your Arms Around Me) to upbeat and playfully ridiculous (Be My Yoko Ono) and everything in between, and almost all of it works. The album is filled with strong songs, including such BNL standards as Brian Wilson (still their best song, in my opinion), Hello City, If I Had a Million Dollars, and What a Good Boy, but some of the real gems are the ones you maybe haven't heard before. The aforementioned Wrap Your Arms Around Me is quietly powerful, and Grade Nine and The King of Bedside Manor have a manic energy that is hard to resist, as does the clever Box Set, which uses a boxed set as a metaphor to look at the career of a fading rock & roll sellout. Gordon may not hook you at first, but a few listens and you won't be able to get it out of your CD player. A wise investment for any music fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny and Great...as usaul!
Even tho I haven't brought this yet. I can tell it's gonna be great-just-wait-or-is-it-too-little, too late...never mind. I'm buying this CD partly because of, If I Had $1000000. I love that song! It makes me laugh everytime! Ciao 4 now!

5-0 out of 5 stars GORDON BEST SO FAR FROM .... B.N.L.
This cd is the best in my opinon of all the work's by B.N.L.
Stunt and maroon just do do not measure up to Gordon. This would be included in my top 100 maybe even top 10 would stick it in my bag if ever stranded on a island or lost out in the milky way till end of time.... Best Canadian import to the states since the Guess Who/Besides there beer!

5-0 out of 5 stars A grand start to a grand career
The Barenaked Ladies, no question, are one of the best bands in alternative music. When so much alt-rock today is just DMB and Nirvana knock-offs, (not to mention lyrics that any pasty, braceface eighth-grader could've written), the Ladies are a breath of fresh air, because they fit in a class of their own. They're about 1000000 miles away from being serious like DMB and they're about 1000000 miles from being as hard-rocking as Nirvana. They make you laugh and think while delivering catchy pop melodies and $1000000 musicianship. OK, enough reference to the song. Needless to say, every great band has to start off somewhere, and "Gordon" is that somewhere. Even if it is at least a decade old, it still sounds fresh and funny. Its timeless lyrics, its impeccable eclectic-pop style, and charming (and at times, brash) wit capture the glory days of youth. These guys were 22 when they made this album, so you'd better be impressed after hearing it. Their musical maturity shows with the jazzy opener "Hello City" and their fresh knowledge of teen nature explodes with "Grade 9", which was written by the whole band. Not saying anything against Steven Page and Ed Robertson, who are both really great songwriters, but it's cool that "Grade 9" was written by all the guys. "Brian Wilson" is of course fantastic, as is the whole album. But my personal favorite is probably "Blame it on Me". Its clever commentary on human nature in a relationship and its loungy feel to it make in a winner. Now how's that for you? If this album isn't a winner, and if it isn't one of the best albums BNL has ever released, I have nothing more to discuss. Just listen, will ya?!

Album Description

Aussie edition of the US skate-punk's 2001 album (scheduled for domestic release in 2002). Much like their self-titledalbum from 1998, there's a huge variety of tracks here -each with its own addictive element. Unlike many punk bands these days, these guys know their instruments. It's notyour typical Southern California skate-punk. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD!
I first heard of Unwritten Law through MTV and the single "Seein' Red". "Mean Girl" is an awesome, fairly heavy song with a good chorus. "Up All Night" is a melodic chorused, strange sounding beginninged song, but is actually really cool once you get used to it. "Sound Siren" is one of the most awesome songs on here, and this song alone would be worth buying the CD, with a melodic sound to the song all the way through. "How You Feel" has a great chorus and great background music. "Blame It On Me" is slightly weird, but actually a pretty heavy and rough track. "Seein' Red" is an awesome track, and I really love the stopping style of the chorus and tuned down rest of the song. "Nick and Phil" is sorta funny, with it being a phone call and the weird usage of curse words. "Hellborn" is a really loud, barely understandable, curse-filled, blood pumping track, while the next song, "Geronimo" ,another of the three best songs on "Elva", is much softer and is filled with a melodic sound, something that is fairly rare in the first ten and absent in the last seven. "Rescue Me" is a cool song, with the odd, stopping style of the song around the chorus, while "Actress, Model.." is a strange, un-original but still fairly good song. "Raleigh(Soliquity pt.V)" is an intro to "Babylon", and is not that bad, being somewhat humorous. "Babylon" is another heavy track, like "Hellborn" and "Blame It On Me". "Raleigh(Soliquity pt.VI)" is a funny, strange outro to "Babylon". "Rest Of My Life" is a slower, nice- instrumentally and somewhat lyrical song, while "Elva(It's Alright)" has a catchy chorus and is easy to remember by the Repeating of the words 'it's alright'. "Evolution", the last song, is pretty catchy, but kind of wordy and long. Strangely, it seems to me that at the end of "Evolution" they make fun of one of their own songs, track 2, "Up All Night". I recommend this to anyone who likes Blink-182, Sum 41, or Green Day, I'm sure you'd love it as much as I do.

5-0 out of 5 stars UNWRITTEN REVIEW
I received the new Unwritten Law cd "Elva" as a prize, and had no prior knowledge of the band nor heard any of their songs before. I was extremely impressed with their music after listening to the album the first time through, and ended up leaving it in my car stereo for about 3 weeks straight (and I drive about 70-100 miles everyday). One of the reasons I was so impressed was because the majority of their songs on their album were really good, unlike most other cd's. The following is a list of the tracks I liked -

1. Mean Girl
2. Up All Night
3. Sound Siren
4. How You Feel
6. Seein' Red
9. Geronimo
11. Actress, Model. . .
15. Rest of My Life
16. Elva

I enjoyed the way they changed things up with their slower songs like "Rest of My Life" and "Elva" and the faster ones like "Sound siren" and "Seein' Red". It was refreshing that not all of their songs were all alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy cow. This one's amazing!
I was trapped in the vortex of the beatles for so long...(nothing against them, just got different tastes. and got bored) and then I picked up ELVA. Lets just say that it spoiled me for all other rock--except maybe simple plan

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW THIS CD ROCKS!!!
This is definetly UL's best cd yet! They are a great mix of punk, alternative, metal, and emo. They are like no band I know. The lyrics are awesome, and the guitar riffs are amazing! I have to say my favorite song is Seein' Red. I heard it on the radio, and thought, Wow, this is an awesome song! It's soft most of the time, but the chorus is the best! I bought the Cd and couldn't stop listening to it! This cd IS NOT POP-PUNK!!! it's much differnt than that.elva is truly an Awesome CD! If you don't have it, BUY IT NOW!!! IT IS AWESOME!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A musical oasis in a desert of disgustingly bad music
When I purchased this CD, I knew it was going to be good, even though it'd been out for over two years, and was old news by now. After listening to it, I think I'm excited for new material from these guys. They display several different genres of music in this from heavy rap-rock (Hellborn, Babalon, Evolution), acoustic ballads (Rest Of My Life), and slow songs with killer choruses (Seein' Red, Geronimo). But there's much more in between.

The album hooks you in quickly with Mean Girl. It starts off slow, but Scott Russo's vocals cleverly snatch you back in. His vocals are like a fusion of Howlin' Pelle Almqvist of the Hives, and Josey Scott of Saliva. He has the same obnoxious flair as Almqvist, and the same roughness as Scott. Even though I don't like either of their voice, the mix of the two in Russo's voice is just great. It follows with Up All Night, probably the best song on the album. It carries on until the end, providing highlights like Blame It On Me, Seein' Red, Hellborn, and Rescue Me. It does have three useless skits, four if you count the one attached to Evolution, but it's made up for with the songwriting skills.

If a blink-182 fan were to walk out of a record store with this, he/she might be surprised if they thought this was gonna be just like their favorite, pitiful band, blink-182. It contains harder songs, less stupid jokes, and a rock edge. Even though blink have done away with those jokes, Unwritten Law still is way different than them. It's actually an oasis in a desert of crappy music. I wonder if it'll dry up by next record, or keep its rep as a safe haven of music. We'll see. ... Read more

With a gross-out factor befitting the turn of the millennium, 1999's American Pie succeeded by updating the classic American teen coming-of-age comedy in more ways than one. And if Jason Biggs foregoes his pie à la Jimmy for mere college high jinks in the sequel, the music here bounds along in a buzz-chord, double-time rush as if the gang never left high school. Dominated by the power-punk pop that's become the staple of contemporary mainstream rock, this album serves as an oft-loopy sampler. Fresh tracks from Green Day, Alien Ant Farm, American Hi-Fi, and Lucia are tempered by inviting, change-of-pace cuts from Angela Ammons, 3 Doors Down, and Oleander. Uncle Kracker's new "(I'm Gonna) Split This Room in Half" cuts through the punky bluster with some welcome hip-hop swagger, while "Phoebe Cates" by Fenix*TX pays amped-up homage to the much-lusted-after '80s teen queen. But as buoyant as the soundtrack is, it's also hard not to note that much of the music often teeters on the edge of cliché; indeed, the opening Blink 182/Green Day/Left Front Tire/American Hi-Fi salvo of tracks might sound to the uninitiated like they were all performed by the same band--oh well, at least it wasn't 'N Sync or the Backstreet Boys. --Jerry McCulley ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Missing A Lot of Great Music; I Have Full Version Of Bruise
What were the people who put the soundtrack together thinking? Maybe they weren't. If you're going to use the songs in the movie, you better include them on the soundtrack. There were a lot of songs used in the movie but the best of the best were left off the soundtrack; go figure. I was disappointed to say the least. Some of the standout tracks not on the CD are "Last Time Again" by Lit, "Everywhere" by Michelle Branch, "In Too Deep" by Sum 41, and my favorite, "Bruise" by Oleander. "Bruise" by Oleander is a rare "B" side which is why no one can find it on any of Oleander's albums. If you want the song "Bruise" by Oleander in it's entirety in MP3 format, ...I hope this helps any of you looking for these songs!

4-0 out of 5 stars cool
the album was awesome i love the songs and i think that it is just a happy atmosphere and a great music take the time to relax and enjoy the music

4-0 out of 5 stars I would rate it five, but I can't get past the missing songs
The title says it all. The songs on here were great but there was just too much missing for me to want to give it the big five. But it's a great one to play at a party or listen to on a boring day in clsas. The songs missing that I really missed were:

Lemmonheads-"Mrs. Robinson"
Offspring-"Want You Bad"
James-"Laid" (the cover by Matt Nathanson is on the 'Wedding' soundtrack. I like Matt's version better.)
Sum41-"In Too Deep"
Michelle Branch-"Everywhere"

I'm not sure the titles, but the song that played while Finch is painting on the balcony and the song that playes in the 'morning after' montage... what were those ones? I looked for them, but...
Anyway, here's a review of what was actually ON this one.

EVERYTIME I LOOK FOR YOU - 5/5 This one is a great fast-paced song that is perfect to open the soundtrack.
SCUMBAG - 5/5 This song is so addictive, I just wish it were longer.
BRING YOU DOWN - 2/5 Meh. The exact same as the first two and it gets a little unoriginal.
VERTIGO - 5/5 One of my favourite songs ever by one of my favourite bands ever. Once again, I wish it were longer.
SPLIT THIS ROOM IN HALF - 5/5 I think this song his crazily hilarious! Nice to see something differentish from Uncle Kracker.
BE LIKE THAT - 5/5 My friends and I all love this song. It's so catchy.
GOOD FOR A WOMAN - 4.5/5 It's pretty good, a little less heavy than I'm used to, but, waddaya gonna do?
ALWAYS GETTING OVER YOU - 4/5 Considering this is a ballad, that's a damn good rating. Sorry, it's too pop for this soundtrack, but I still like it.
CHEATING - 3/5 It's fine, but after you hear it twice it gets annoying, especially the guy's voice.
SMOKESCREEN - 5/5 Well, it's just good, do I really need to go over my word limit explaining why?
PHEOBE CATES - 5/5 See above
SUSAN - 1/5 Sorry, I just don't like it.
FAT LIP - 4/5 Back when this soundtrack came out it would have been 5/5, but I've heard it too much since then to like it anymore.
I WILL - 3/5 Mixed feelings on this one. Can't explain.
HALO - 5/5 The 2nd best song on this soundtrack (1st being Vertigo) and I like it because it's soft AND hard.

If you want Alternative, get AP1. If you like Punk, get AP2. If you are like me and like both, either get both or download 'em. It's easier because then you can get every song on the same CD.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as Good as the First
I loved both the American Pie 1 and the American Wedding soundtrack. I was disappointed with this one, as it didn't seem to have the mood the other two did. It's decent, but not repeat-worthy.

2-0 out of 5 stars all is fair in pop and war
To be fair to the people that peddle this stuff out to the masses - they wanted to give you something you would buy. Why people who are asking for Smooth Criminal and Everywhere didn't turn on MTV 3 months ago is beyond me. But, there have been a lot of questions regarding the missing songs, yet none have address the main issue - Joseph Arthur. Towards the end of the movie - the song that starts "Don't know why I'm still afraid If you weren't real I would make you up" and the chorus goes "But right now Everything is turning blue, And right now The sun is trying to kill the moon" when it's just Jim and Michelle is called "Honey and the Moon" and is on the album "Redemption's Son" PLEASE check it out if you are tired of all the same over processed baloney music. Is raw, intelligent, and was somehow overlooked on the soundtrack. No disses to anyone else's taste's, but the only reason why I even looked up this soundtrack was to see if J A was on it. I had NO idea so much else was overlooked. I also vote for an American Wedding 2 soundtrack. ... Read more
