Wayne Kramer is known for his incendiary guitar work in the late '60s with Detroit's legendary MC5. A rocking, politically minded musician who spent time in jail and once shared a house with the Stooges, Kramer is a canny survivor who has engaged in more than three decades of punk-inspired fret shredding. Live Like a Motherfucker is a powerful live album illuminating the guitarist's work from his last three solo albums. Supported by Doug Linn on bass and Ric Parnell on drums, Kramer crashes and burns through an exciting set featuring quasi-bohemian blue-collar editorials laced with punk-metal guitar heroics. Whether singing about the late Charles Bukowski or reviving the MC5's classic anthem "Kick Out the Jams," Kramer is an American artist who mustn't be forgotten. --Mitch Meyers ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars WAYNE KRAMER - 'LLMF' (Epitaph)
Title is supposed to stand for 'Live Like A Motherf***er!!'Makes
sense. Best cuts would be the opener "Bad Seed",the ass-kicking
"It's Never Enough","Down To The Ground","Poison", the MC 5
classic "Kick Out The Jams" and "Count Time" where Kramer gets
to show off his bluesy side. The old-school guitarist tours these
days as a trio. Nothing outstanding here, but pretty decent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blows Away "Live at Leeds" as the best live rock album ever!
Absolutely essential listening!!

How many rock artists do you know today that play "take-no-prisoners"-style hard-rocking guitar music with intelligent, inciteful, adult lyrics along with exploratory improvisational finesse and instrumental acumen? None that I can think of - at least none that do it anywhere near as well as Brother Wayne!!

Here it is captured white-hot, live and transcendent... direct to tape with no studio touch-ups... just 3 guys playing rock like their lives depend on it... and in Waynes case... IT PROBABLY DOES!!

I can't say enough good things about this artist or this CD in particular.

5-0 out of 5 stars The real stuff
They just don't make albums/CD's like this anymore. This is what rock music should be. High energy, great material, and fantastic playing. I can't recommend this CD enough. It's meant to be played loud and it'll get your blood flowing. Buy this, you can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great new CD from one of the giants
I have to confess. I shot the photos for the CD. But I was also there when Wayne recorded this live at the Mint in L.A. So I've already got a copy- I'm playing it loud. My nine year old loves it. Great music, most inspired version of "Kick out the Jams" by one of the giants of rock-n-roll guitar. "Down on the Ground" is about jamming in Chicago during a police riot. "We rolled out of Detroit to join in the fight", "Junkie Romance" and "Count Time" about dope and prison. And "Something Broken in the Promised Land"is one of the reasons why when asked who he listens to Bruce Springsteen said "Wayne Kramer". Great CD, inspired versions of classics Poison, Kick out the Jams, No Easy Way Out, Stranger in the House and Bad Seed. Look for concerts. I photographed one and went back to at least six more. Its rare to see this level of talent and have so much fun rockin to loud angry music. Don't miss out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Elise ...
I saw Victim's Family for the first time in '91 in a National Guard armory of all places; they played with Nomeansno and Nuisance (<----'nuther remarkable band, too bad they's gone) and a host of other one's.It's kind of hard to compare Victim's Family and NoMeansNo...so I won't.Elise ...however; she has no idea what the hell she's talking about.Ignore her most urgently, buy this album and anything else your grubby little hands can get ahold of by Victim's Family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Victim's Family DERIVATIVE? CARBON COPY?
I saw Victim's Family live in '91 in Petaluma's Phoenix Theater... when they opened for NoMeansNo (and GREEN DAY opened for THEM... quite an incredible show since I love all three bands, but just gives you some HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE). Victim's Family is from my home town, Santa Rosa... and they are also my favorite band of all time. Perhaps it's because of how Ralph screams, or because of how they boldly go where no-one dares with their guitars... how can anyone deny that with the amount of talent they have, they could destroy anyone, yet they CHOOSE to play this very ORIGINAL and NOVEL type of music. They used to tour with Primus all the time... and you know the story of how Claypool (do you know who he is little girl?) almost became the bassist for Metallica... but Metallica just said "That guy's just got his own thing going on..." almost as if to say "No way we'd give up our corporate strategy to have the most talented bassist on earth play for us." Victim's Family is in Primus' league in terms of talent AND originality, but their music is just so much cooler (and less self-indulgent). This live album really capture's their energy... and I'm happy to see that they've reunited. Just realize... Victim's Family don't necessarily strive to make music that is "pleasing" to vapid high school chicks...

5-0 out of 5 stars Back before punk went corporate
"it didn't really get good until 'the end of 96"This is the most patently absurd and solipsistic remark I've ever heard in regards to "punk".Please, Victims Family is unique in their style and generally timeless in their content (a few notable exceptions here and there).I first saw them at a tiny venue in northern Colorado that doubled as a ballet studio, the place was absolutely packed and the show was unparalleled in my experience.I have never seen a band with as much energy and enthusiasm since, this album comes remarkably close to capturing that same energy. If you want to relive (or live for the first time) your favourite Victims Family concert, you can't do better than this.Fortunately for us all, they have regrouped and I hope they will be putting out new material soon. As for the comment, "it didn't really get good until 'the end of 96," you should add, "...the end of 96 when I started paying attention to punk."Your "punk" is a derivative, copy-cat, one-off cr@p in a shrink-wrap compared to how it all started and the spirit it embodied. This album will get you closer to it than any amount of your cheap corporate-punk ever will.

5-0 out of 5 stars original sound with no comparison
A good live album from the most powerfully performing band I've ever seen in concert. I had the chance to see them in Barcelona twice by the time they recorded the album... Don't miss this original jazz-noisy trio... andplease, forget about comparisons with more 'popular' bands...

1-0 out of 5 stars Gee, does no stars count?
i'm am so sorry, but this just sounds like a pre-teen garage band trying to win here.now i know i'm not really big on the early 90's thang, it didn't really get good until 'the end of 96, but i listen to punk andalternative and this isn't it.this is a carbon-copy of other bands, someone trying hard to sound like Kurt or Metallica and really just dying. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T GET ME WRONG...
Coz I love this band ! It's only that this release does not make them justice. The studio half(One Struggle One Fight lp) is awfully recorded and most the tracks you can find re-recorded and reversioned on "Massacred Millions",along with some nice live rarieties and comp.tracks.The "Live In Leeds" half is so poorly recorded you can only hear vox and some drums,no guitar at all !!! A good sounding Varukers set is yet to see the light,as the "Live In Holland" cd suffers from the same "mixing desk tape syndrome".So you get 30 s.thing tracks of total cr@p!!!.It's just not fair !!!! I want my money back !!!!! ... Read more

Album Description

Raw and rip-roaring live album by trio featuring Dee Dee and Marky Ramone covering many familiar punk anthems as well as a few unreleased tracks. No overdubs were added to the recording, making the listening experience as sweaty and energetic as the live experience. 21 tracks, all recorded at the Continental in New York City. 1999 release. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Dee Dee Ramone Saves Civilization - Again!
It is no exaggeration to state that Dee Dee Ramone is the greatest poet/songwriter since the demise of Buddy Holly, the Fugs, and McCartney/Lennon. How he and the Ramones were denied a wider audience by the gangsters who run the music business and possibly our governments is one of those unsolvable, possibly dangerous mysteries, like who killed JFK. If you have somehow stumbled upon this review in complete innocence, then slowly turn around in your chair, close your door, draw the shades shut, make sure your phone line isn't being tapped, and order this album. When your precious bundle arrives, there will be revealed to you a style of rock music of such sublime beauty and raw power that it apparently had to be suppressed. But Dee Dee labours on like a mythic hero, seemingly strengthened by adversity. Do not forsake him. This album is also essential for long time Ramones fans. Dee Dee plays the songs a little slower than the Ramones on their later live recordings, and this turns out to be a major improvement. The beauty of the melodies is allowed to catch hold, and the songs actually seem even more powerful when they are slowed down slightly. Also, Barbara Ramone (Dee Dee's wife) sings on several tracks, and her voice adds an interesting and unexpected dimension to familiar songs. In short, this is album is a jewel, and my only suggestion is that it be followed by a live album of Dee Dee's solo material.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE RAMAINZ CARRY ON THE RAMONES LEGACY
The Ramainz, (Marky Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, and Dee Dee's wife Barbara Zampini) are a much-needed fix for those lamenting the Ramones retirement. "Live in N.Y.C." is loud and raw, featuring 19 classic Ramones songs and 2 Ramainz originals. Dee Dee and Barbara share the vocals, and unlike the Ramones, the songs are not played at break-neck speed. It is refreshing to hear these songs at original studio version tempos. This album is definitely a "must-have" for Ramones fans. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Where's Glen Matlock?
If (as one review states) Glen Matlock later dubbed in his
bass, it's not on this recording.

Either the bass wasn't patched through the mixing board, or the soundman turned the bass input to zero.

I don't hear much if any audience noise at all (if this is faked,
again, as another reviewer stated, it sure is subtle).

The main problem with this Live CD is that there are gaps between
each song, rather than a continuous concert recording. There was
no reason to do this.

4-0 out of 5 stars a great live but it still could've been better
an excellent concert with dialogues with the audience but what was the use of changing the song order? The review included on the booklet tells you how it really was and the sound of the crowd confirms it. Still, it is pretty good.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Live CD. Fake crowd noise is annoying,
If you like the Pistols, you'll want this CD, but just the fact that the crowd noise was faked and dubbed in is somewhat annoying. All the stuff is pretty good for a live show and there's some nice twists to the pistols songs you know and love.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Pistols, Live with attitude
All the raw energy and agressive punk style of the Sex Pistols are captured perfectly on this CD. The guys are in-tune, on-key, and are running on pure anger. From Jon baiting the crowd of inmates, to Steve wailing out classic riffs, this one is an absolute classic, and its excellent sound quality for a live recording. For any new fans or Pistols freaks, this is worth picking up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Before Sid's time.
Actually the bass was dubbed on by Glen Matlock years after it was originaly recorded. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the more underrated J.T./Heartbreakers Recordings
If you can find the 10" version of this, go for that. This is definately a band that sound better on vinyl. And the vinyl on my copy is pink! However, I'm sure it is almost as great on any other format. "Love Comes..." is the best cut on the album, and this is one of the better versions of "Chinese Rocks" I've heard. Highly recommended!

3-0 out of 5 stars this NEEDS to be re-released !!
URGH! a Music War was first a film and double LP soundtrack. It was released back in 1982, when I was first getting my feet wet in British and American post-punk music. The film itself is great, showcasing a variety of acts all under the loose umbrella of "New Wave" from the power-pop of the Police, the Go-Go's, and XTC, to the electro musings of Gary Numan, and the totally uncatagorizable, sadly missed and WAY ahead of his time Klaus Nomi. Each group was shown playing one song each, and the film hops all over the globe, from New York, Santa Monica, to Paris and London. Unfortunately, there are several groups in the film not on the original double LP ( which I still have ) such as Invisible Sex and Spodgness Abounds ( I think I spelled that correctly, my memory fails me ) and more than that, there are several artists on the original double Lp that were left off the CD release, such as Toyah Wilcox. I suppose this was done in order to fit all they could on one compact disc, but it is a disservice to both the artists and the fans of the original movie. Why can this movie not be re-released on DVD?? Is there not an audience for it? I have seen several used copies of the VHS cassette on E-bay and the like, going for upwards of $100.The original film and double LP format I would give 5 stars. It is an invaluable document of early eighties alternative rock. However, I dock the CD release a few points for leaving out so many great songs and artists. Until this is re-released on DVD, I will hold on to my LP, thank you very much, and play it, scratches and all, and re-live those early, crazy days of my youth.
