4-0 out of 5 stars Iggy Pop - 'Heroin Hates You' (Other People's Music)
I had a tough time finding a copy of this CD.'Heroin...' was recorded at a Los Angeles gig in November,1979.From the sound quality,I believe this may have been a soundboard recording. This is the title's first authorized release as it's been put out before as a 2-lp bootleg. So,when you get 'Heroin...',you won't get side four of the boot.Rest assure, this is still a great archive show by the Igster. The line-up for this gig included original Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock and The Damned guitarist Brian James.Who could ask for more?As for the tunes, most of them are good to hear played live,I liked "Real Cool Time","Dog Food","New Values","Five Foot One" and "No Fun" the best.Comes with a 16-page informative booklet. One of those CD's that's nice to play at 2am.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get it!!
Great Iggy live CD! A must for the true Iggy fan. Crank up the volume to the max for No Fun. If that won't give you a rush I don't know what else to suggest! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cardiff gig
I'm from Cardiff, and I went to this gig. Thought that it was a really good show and Eddie Vedder made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end as always.
My favourite part of the evening was when the whole place joined in to sing Betterman and it sounds great on the CD.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cardiff, Wales
A particularly mellow, relaxed night in Cardiff, Wales didn't make for a bad show. In fact, it made for a good, smooth performance. I don't think it's better than another show I have Boston2 and there are probably more that are better, but I haven't heard one that is this easy going with an "evenflow" or with as good of a song list. Some highlights of the show are "Black" which is probably my favorite PJ song as well as "Betterman" and "Leatherman." Overall, a good buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Loose-Limbed and Flawless Performance
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. The ninth show of the tour, in mysterious but beautiful Cardiff, Wales, constitutes one of the most solid, no-nonsense performances of the early part of the 2000 World Tour. This show is not incredibly dramatic, ear-catching, or especially powerful in any way. So if you only listen to this bootleg a few times, you may not notice how loose, relaxed, and insistent this performance really is. This requires close listening, but your patience will be rewarded. The rhythm section of Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron are in an especially limber and even bluesy mood, giving the songs an extra bit of swing. The guitar interplay by Stone Gossard and Mike McCready is relaxed and flawless. Eddie Vedder is clearly in a good mood, and while he keeps the stage talk relatively low-key in this gig, he's clearly having fun with the crowd, especially in his story about a tour guide named Jerry. This show has the benefit of a rather unconventional set list, as compared to many of the other bootlegs. "Nothing As It Seems" is the show opener for the only time in the tour, and this is a great idea, because the song can often be a mid-show downer but works very well as the opener. Crushing renditions of the heavy rockers "Gods' Dice," "Red Mosquito," and "I Got Shit" make welcome appearances early in the set, while some more rarities like "Spin the Black Circle" and "Smile" appear in the encore. Pearl Jam had apparently never been to this town before, and may not be there ever again, but the Cardiffians should be talking about this for years to come.

3-0 out of 5 stars reflections on cardiff
This is a very good show taken from Pearl Jam's 2000 European Tour. In Cardiff, Wales, the band sounds a bit worn from the hectic schedule. For those who think they have figured out the set list, Pearl Jam throws a curve right from the start by opening with "Nothing is as it seems." The show, proper, moves along as the band provides a journeyman performance. It is after the rousing ovation which brings the encore that the band reflects more of their usual energy. Mr Vedder engages in some hyperbole. He relates a story about the band's adventures aboard a Cardiff tour bus. It falls under that category of tales in which "you had to be there." ;D Realising the corner he has painted himself into, he perceptively admits that sometimes it is better to just get on with the song and not talk about it. It is that natural honesty which Mr Vedder brings to a show that makes me respect him so much. Songs which end the encore are especially rousing. This is probably the most upbeat version of "black" I have heard. I enjoy this show, and I hope you will, too.

4-0 out of 5 stars New to Pearl Jam
I've never really paid much attention to this band...more inclined towards Nirvana, Pixies, Sonic Youth...but just on a whim I bought this album mainly because I thought it was a very cool idea of the band's to release ALL of their live shows over the course of an entire tour. I must say, I loved this album from the start even though I was unfamiliar with almost all of the songs. The bass is mixed very far down(?) but Vedder's vocals are spot-on and to be honest, somehow the overall sound is so different it's cool. I honestly like this cd better than the last Jones Beach show...I know I might get some questions in that regard...but somehow this show seems more 'live' to me...anyway...I applaud Pearl Jam for this whole series of cds...a stroke of brilliance. And it's good to see that there are still a few bands on the scene with a brain on their collective shoulders... ... Read more

This CD sounds A LOT cleaner soundwise than some of the other Roses bootlegs I've come across, obviously since it is an official release. If vocalist Eddie Vedder took any foreign-language courses in high school, my bet is that they were French. He at least attempts to speak a few phrases, and sprinkles words here and there (even if his pronunciation and accent aren't so hot), unlike other shows on the tour in which he basically speaks as though he's back in the States. Two hard-hitting tunes off of Binaural--the fast, punky "God's Dice" and the staccato stutter-step of "Evacuation"--are included in the set. The sweet, hummable melody of "In Hiding" is a welcome addition, and the usual improv jam in the middle of "Rearviewmirror" turns the song into a particularly inspiring closer. Lead guitarist Mike McCready makes his presence felt in a big way on this date, taking his usual smokin' solos from Ten's "Even Flow" and "Black" to screaming crescendos. Neil Young's "Fuckin' Up," at the end of the encore, is also a bonus in this already powerful performance. --Adem Tepedelen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My first PJ concert
This was my first pearl jam concert ever. Im from mexico, and since the band has never been here i had the opportunity to see them when i was in france. The concert started out rocking with sometimes. This was one of the most intense performances i had ever seen. The set continued to flow in an impressive beautifull manner. Everything was perfect in the show. All the pauses (most of which are not included in the cds), everything Eddie said, all the music. Perhaps what i didnt like much was the lack of a new cover or an improv, but all in all the show was absolutely fabulous. In my opinion this show is in between the 15 best shows of the tour.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tres Bien in Gay Paree
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This is an above-average performance and one of the highlights of the European portion of the 2000 bootleg series. Unlike in all of the other non-English speaking nations on the tour, Eddie Vedder speaks to the crowd in their own language here, perhaps remembering some old high school French lessons. Regardless, large portions of the crowds in those other countries understood Eddie's English anyway (unless they were just happy to hear him say anything), but Eddie works this Parisian crowd well and they are extra enthusiastic. This show presents an especially strong performance by the band, with Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron laying down the rhythms flawlessly, while Mike McCready's solos are even more intense than usual. While there are some crushing heavy rockers here, like "Gods' Dice," "Go," and "Hail Hail," on this evening the band really shine on the mid-tempo numbers. This includes very impressive renditions of "In Hiding," "Wishlist" (which was rather sappy in its original form but is much stronger throughout this tour), and the best "Yellow Ledbetter" to this point in the series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice long diverse show for the average fan, plus some extras
Great standard set list from the European tour with a few nice extras. Highlights from the main set are the rarely played "Pilate," "In Hiding," and an excellent version of "RVM." The encore is pretty standard although begins with three rocking numbers, "Hail, Hail," "Go," and "Once." Not an amazing show but solid none-the-less. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An All-Around Killer, with One Curious Omission
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. In the third leg of the 2000 world tour, Pearl Jam had been on a real roll this particular week, with four especially punishing shows in a row, extending from Detroit on 10/7 to this one in St. Louis on 10/11. This show is a great example of the saying "Better Than the Sum of Its Parts." There aren't any especially incredible songs, none of the band members is noticeably better than usual, and the set list is dependable but not too flashy. So what's the big deal? The fact that everybody involved was almost at the top of his game adds up to a killer performance by the entire band, and this show is consistently stellar and powerful. Highlights include "Given To Fly" during which Eddie Vedder invites to the stage a woman who had been doing sign language for a friend in the crowd (this is a visual highlight of the "Touring Band" DVD). "Footsteps" makes an unusual and creepy appearance in the middle of the set, and we get intricate and powerful performances of the relative rarities "In My Tree," "Brain of J," "Whipping," and the dramatic "Parting Ways." The cool B-side "U" makes its first appearance in the tour here (it's not a Prince song, despite Eddie's introduction), and we also get one of only two performances of the cover "Sonic Reducer" by punk band the Dead Boys.

Of special note is one curious omission. In the entire series of 72 PJ bootlegs, "Corduroy" is the most common song, being performed 71 times. This show in St. Louis happens to be the one show that does not contain this old warhorse. After the show, I wonder if the guys in the band said, "Dude, can you believe we forgot to do Corduroy tonight?" "Nah, get outta here, really?" But I'm sure they meant for us to notice this.

5-0 out of 5 stars mccready rocks.
wow...what can i say about this. i only own two of the US bootlegs, with this being one of them. i can't compare it to any of the other shows, seeing as how i have never even heard them, but this setlist definitely caught my eye.

the show is loaded with songs that don't usually show up on most of the recent setlists: "Brain Of J," "Whipping," "SOLAT," "In My Tree," "Footsteps," "U," "Parting Ways," and "Sonic Reducer." The mix is perfect (as opposed to Seattle II...it's a damn shame) and the band is UNBELIEVABLE. Eddie is intense, McCready is on fire the whole show, i couldn't help but replay the "Go" solo over and over again. a screaming fan in the middle of the "Even Flow" solo pretty much sums up McCready's performance: "MCCREADY ROCKS!! " and the whole band seems to have a lot of fun (when do they not?).

admittedly there are a few songs that i would like to have seen on here, but the diverse selection more than makes up for it. i can't really say whether this is better or worse than the other bootlegs, but if you're a fan, you will not be disappointed.

if you listen while driving, be careful. you will look like a fool to those around you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great choice; one correction
Great setlist, and an outstanding mix (each instrument is crisp and well defined--unlike the much more popular Seattle II, where the vocals are lost half the time), make this is a great choice if you're only looking at buying a few (or only one!) of these boots. It has some fantastic songs that don't apear too often: Brain of J, Whipping, In My Tree, Parting ways, U, and the cover, Sonic Reducer come to mind.

One note/correction on a previous reviewers comments: U is not a Prince cover--Eddie's comment is a joke--it is a b-side from the Wishlist single.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sonic killers!
I was fortunate enough to attend this very St. Louis concert in October of 2000, and let me just say, these guys are one of the best bands to ever strap on guitars and play. Eddie Vedder is the definition of integrity and free-spitit. His low-key, yet joking banter with the crowd is severely at odds with his dour media portrayal, but none of that matters at all anyway. The point is, these guys put on a blistering set of songs, one after the other, at a rate that defies odds. That Vedder can muster up such passion and feeling within his songs, verse after verse, night after night, is truly amazing. At times, it's almost hard to keep up with Pearl Jam's growing catalog of songs in concert, as they belt them out at such a frenetic pace. To me, it sounds like these guys enjoy what they do. You don't play eight songs for an encore performance and not enjoy yourself.

On this night in St. Louis, Pearl Jam were unbelievable, raring to go and rocking hard nearly the whole way through. After the paced opener, "Of the Girl," they pulled out rockers like "Go," "Hail, Hail," "Brain of J," "Insignificance" and "Whipping," all of which heavily whipped up the excited and sold out St. Louis crowd in a frenzy unmatched since STP played there. Before the dreamy rocker, "Given to Fly," Vedder touchingly pulled up a woman from the audience, someone who was using sign language throughout the show for a deaf person or persons in attendance. As Vedder sang near her on stage, the woman repeated his words through hand gestures, dancing slightly and making it an unforgettable moment. The two of them danced together before she got off the stage at the end of the song, and it was really one of those moments of live spontaneousness that everybody in attendance was quite blessed to see at the time. Even Vedder said that his band had never seen such a thing, a person doing sign language for deaf members of the audience.

Also of note at this St. Louis concert was the fact that the town's beloved Cardinals were playing in a playoff game that very night in St. Louis, one which they lost, yet Vedder claimed they had won towards the end of the show, touching off another wave of cheers that were comparable to the shouts for Pearl Jam's played songs. He quickly retracted, though, telling the crowd that the Cardinals had lost, but weren't they glad they had spent their time here instead of at home watching "some stupid game."

Also of note on this disc, besides the awesome music, which everybody already knows about anyway, were Vedder's political viewpoints. He confidently displays his support for Ralph Nader, while rightly brandishing the two stock leaders who were running in the 2000 presidential race. The night of this concert, George W. Bush and Al Gore were engaged in another nationally televised debate, of which Vedder informed the crowd they both had heart attacks and died. Again, however, he retracted, saying neither one of the men had any blood in them that would proplerly lead them into something so human as a heart condition. It was a great moment, no matter what way you lean politically. Musically, I can't say enough about these two soaring discs from St. Louis. Check out the extended version of "Daughter," plus the drawn out version of "Rear View Mirror," where the lights all dimmed into a bluish haze and the band just dreamily plucked away at will, as Vedder left the stage for a break. I heard the girl behind me say "weird" to the performance of that song, but I liked its psychadelic look and feel, plus the warm atmosphere it attained on that chilly October night. "U" was a great Prince cover they experimented and succeeded with live, while the Dead Boy's "Sonic Reducer" may have been one of the best covers I've heard by any band ever. It's a punk song that Vedder and his boys fit into like a well worn glove. Just as easily, though, the band followed that song with the romantic cover of "Last Kiss," followed by their own classic sounding "Yellow Ledbetter." It seems these guys can play anything on stage they feel like, and often do. This band is notorious for changing up their set lists on a regular basis, attempting unknown covers, and keeping things interesting with Vedder's dry humor, introspection, and interesting observations.

A casual listener might be taken aback at Pearl Jam's loud twin guitar attack and angst-ridden singing. Underneath that wall of sound, however, is an exceedingly melodic band that is fan-friendly and wildly free-spirited all at once. I own one of their live European double discs which is also quite good, but it doesn't compare to this unforgettable St. Louis performance. I suspect Pearl Jam turn it up a notch when performing in the states, giving it their absolute best for the U.S. fans who made their touring lifestyle possible in the first place. I'll repeat myself again, this is an outstanding live performance by one of the best bands ever, on a night when the Cardinals lost and two presidential candidates died at the same time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Strong but not the best.
On October 11, 2000 I had to choose between going to the Pearl Jam concert (my third) or the NLCS game between the Cards and the Mets (which would have been my first). My anticiaption for PJ's return to the Gateway City made my choice for me and I rocked out to Eddie and the boys in the cool autumn air. The show was good but not better than their other shows. After the show I would have given it 3 out of 5 stars, after listening to it again upon it's CD release I have to give it another star. There are a few delights in this 2-disk set. Some of the tracks rate right up there with some of their other "live" recordings. Even Flow, Given to Fly, and Footsteps (a nice surprise!) come to mind. Yellow Ledbetter is a disappointment however, as Eddie stumbles through the alternate lyrics. Strong playing from Mike and Stone. Matt Cameron hits em' real HARD! Speaking of the NLCS game... for fun listen to the banter between tracks 6 and 7 on disk 2 to hear Eddie inform the crowd that the Cardinals won! Applause errupts, then Eddie let's the crowd down by coming clean and admitting that they had lost. A strong outing all around, but not the best. Overall a good edition to the collection, especially if you made the show! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Midpoint of the Bootleg Series
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. Date-wise, this concert isn't in the middle of the 2000 world tour, but the bootleg from Charlotte occupies the midpoint of quality in the series. There are shows worse than this, and many that are better, and there is a lot to say about those bootlegs. There is not much to say about this one, except to comment on its sheer averageness. There are no truly remarkable songs or performances tonight, but also there are no major errors. The man holding everything together tonight is Stone Gossard, who is basically flawless. In a possible technical error, Mike McCready is very faint in this bootleg, and he sounds rather tame anyway, except for "Black" in which he delivers even more intense and dramatic solos than usual. One source of trouble tonight is Eddie Vedder, but not with his vocals. The problem is his guitar work. Eddie is one of the greatest rock singers in the world, but he continues to embarrass himself on guitar, which is clearly not one of his strengths. Tonight he commits many errors, especially in the intro's to "Betterman" and "Rearviewmirror," and throughout "Wishlist" and "Insignificance." I have never been able to figure out why he insists on playing guitar, especially when his band already contains two perfectly outstanding guitar heroes. Eddie does redeem himself however, with the heartfelt tune listed here as "Improv" (probably not completely improvisational), plus excellent vocal performances in "Sometimes" (the early highlight of the evening), "I Got S**t," and "Given to Fly."

5-0 out of 5 stars this one, along with all PJ's others, is a keeper
I was at the Charlotte show and it was just awesome! The way the same song's on the albums are live makes you wonder, are these guy's human? The CD has songs from the beginning of the band's start up until now, not just focused on any particular period. Listening to the suberb guitar playing just made me appreciate this album that much more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars criminally overlooked
Paul Kelly is undoubtedly the most negligently overlooked Australian artist there is. One can argue with the song selection on his recent greatest hits compilation, but the songs chosen for this live effort all hit the mark. Alternatively acoustic and then some great guitar based interpretations of well chosen, sensational studio songs - this warrants repeated listenings. It is the Kelly album that I nominate when anybody asks where to start on this artist. Standout tracks are Dumb Things and When I First Met Your Ma. As a group of songs, this is also the best live album I own period, the closest being early Neil Young.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
This is Paul Kelly at his very best. It captures the spirit of his live performances, at the peak of his career, and features extraordinary performances of 'Just Like Animals', 'Pouring Petrol On A Burning Man' and the heartbreaking 'Maralinga'.

It probably helps to have heard the originals of some of the songs on this album such as 'To Her Door', as he varies them a bit in these live versions, but if you're already a P.K. fan then this is - absolutely - his best album. We have over 4,000 CDs at home, and this is easily our most-played CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars The secret is out
Run, don't walk, and buy this CD. This is Paul at his best---funny (Dumb Things), tongue-in-cheek (God's Hotel) and socially conscious (Maralinga). Pouring Petrol on a Burning Man has a groove you won't soon forget. "Under the Sun" is my favorite Paul Kelly album, and many of its songs are reworked here to great success. Actually the best live CD I own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spiritually uplifting
This CD has some truly brilliant tracks. My favorites are When I first met your ma & To her door. The stories they tell and so well written they will make you laugh and cry. The music will bring a lump to your throat.

Paul Kelly is a great singer/songwriter who has been known and respected in Australia since the early 80's. His music ranges from folk/country through blues to recent foray's into techno music. This is a great album to listen to if you're feeling down, and I recommend a walk in the park afterward to complete the sensation!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic snapshot of Australia's best kept secret
Paul Kelly has put out many fantastic recordings but this live CD has an appeal all it's own. Many of the older songs feature new arrangements and surprises. The intimate audience adds flavor to this performance and begs the question...."Why is Paul Kelly unknown?!?!" ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Super Deal !
The simple fact that this single contains 7 tracks and is priced as a 2 track single make it a good deal. That the seven tracks are by the best (pehaps only) rock band alive make this single a definite Must. Six of the tracks are live from the Atlanta '94 concert, so they provide a great early Pearl Jam recording sample. The songs and the band are flawless, and much more powerful live than in the albums. "Deep" is particularly outstanding as Ed's galvanic roars pierce through your head, while "Release" never sounded better with Ed's perfectly emotional vocal delivery. Not to mention that the rest of the band is equally absorbed in the tunes. I think this is what makes anything live by Pearl Jam a must-buy. If you don't own any live Pearl Jam, or any Pearl Jam at all, you should buy this. You will get all the bang-for-your-buck. The single will cost you a very small portion of what I payed for the entire Atlanta concert.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dissisdent: not a bad Pearl Jam single to own.
The Dissident CD single contains 6 live "staple" tracks from the Ten album which are a great sampling of a show from the band's early days. This CD single is a must for the music listener's collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars No need to diss Dissident.
Although "Dissident" is an excellent song on its own, I bought this single for its live tracks, and I was not disappointed. It's the brilliant, arena rocking early Pearl Jam style that the world fell in love with (though just about all of Pearl Jam's songs rock, in my mind; it's all subjective, really). "Why Go" is an underrated PJ gem, and "Deep" has some of the best drumming in the band's history.

Fans of these songs, plus the amazing "Rearviewmirror", "Release", and "Even Flow" should check out the "Dissident" single's splintering (and in "Release"'s case, simply beautiful) live tracks. And don't forget a live version of "Dissident" is included, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great depiction of the early Pearl Jam.
Back in the days this cd was the only official record where you could get "live PJ."
Now you have 72 official bootlegs, most of which contain the songs in this cd, but do not be fooled.
There is a great difference in the pearl jam of 94 than the one of 2002. The following is a list of things that have changed in them:
1. maturity
2. ideals
3. intensity
remember that back in 94 the band was struggling against ticketmaster, a struggle that rid them of a lot of energy. Today, even though all the songs still have a lot of meaning, they do not have the same anger or emotion that they used to put into them. Today they are not angry young men trying to raise global consciousness, but mature artists that have found different ways to express their feelings, and that have evolved into another level of music.(do not interpret this the wrong way, pearl jam is even better now than ever!)

If you are a PJ fan, this is a record you must own, because its a legacy of the early begginings of the band.

5-0 out of 5 stars flawless
This CD single is one of my favorites. You get all these great songs on the one single. With Rearviewmirror(live) and Release(live) it is awesome. Those 2 songs are worth the price of the CD. If you listen to the cd you will again see why Pearl Jam is one of the best rock bands ever. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE MARVELLOUS, MECHANICAL . . . FALL!
OH, I have always loved this band. This CD is one for Fall completists who desire everything the band have ever done, and this one is a great introductory compliation as well for those new to the band. A useful round-up of live material and some tracks from THE LIGHT USER SYNDROME CD album, this contains some interesting tracks, such as the very gothic CHEETHAM HILL and COLISEUM(live) and a cover or two, notably WHITE LIGHTNING, a Big Bopper cover of a rock'n'roll classic original! The live versions of tracks such as IDIOT JOY SHOWLAND(from the 1991 LP SHIFTWORK) and ED'S BABE(rare 1993 single) are strong. Vocalist Mark E. Smith rants in his inimitable fashion about everything from alcohol to home improvements to red light districts to the music business, punctuating every stanza with -ah!. TOP THAT-ah! The mighty Fall rock once again-ah! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars MC5 - 'Teen Age Lust' (Total Energy)
I've said it before and I'll surely say it again.I just love these unreleased archive concert performances released on CD.Specially when it's of a tour/gig that you wouldn't oridinarly expect. This ten track gem was recorded on January 1,1970 at the Civic Center in Saginaw,MI.It's sound quality is between very good to excellent.Several MC5 tresures included in the set, just sounds so much better when played live. Most notable cuts are the title track "Teen Age Lust","Looking At You","Human Being Lawnmower" and the foot-stomping "Black To Comm" which is squeezed into a medley with "Starship" and "Kick Out The Jams".Guitarist Fred Smith steps up to provide the vocals on "Shakin' Streets".This version kicks ass!!Nice cover.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best live release by the band since "Kick Out the Jams"
I'd probably rate the CD at 5 stars if the sound quality was a little better. The CD is in real stereo, but like many of the other live recordings that have surfaced and been released since the band broke up, the main problem is the balancing of the lead vocal with the instruments. On this recording it's sometimes difficult to hear the vocal at all. The sound improves after awhile on some songs, but is always a little muddy and compacted, and you can hear tape hiss, making me believe the original tape was probably recorded at a low speed. Apart from the sound, the performances are fantastic, more professional and tight than on Kick Out the Jams, but not razor-sharp with no bass like on Back in the USA. Highlights would be the take on "Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa", "Human Being Lawnmower" (on which the vocal is nearly inaudible, unfortunately), and "It's A Man's World." The "Kick Out the Jams" medley isn't that impressive at that end. It's hard to top the live version at the Grande Ballroom. It's ironic that John Sinclair produced this release since he had no involvement with the band at this stage of their evolution, and some of his comments in the notes reveal remaining bitterness. When MC5 played shows like this, they could blow any other group away. Nobody who is a first-generation fan of this group should ever forget that at the time, this was the hardest-rocking group out there and had a sound that was fresh and exciting, and they could outplay and outperform anyone. The "Kick Out the Jams" album exhibits the wild, raw and loud power of the MC5 and is the best of their original 3 albums. "Teenage Lust" reveals a more professional band, with just as much power but with more depth and creativity. I keep this CD in a fitting place, alongside their original 3 releases from Elektra and Atlantic. I'd recommend it for original fans of the group more than I would any of the other recent releases.

4-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant post KOTJ live 5
The sound isn't quite perfect, but it doesn't really matter, these boys go for it more than anyone else I've heard (perhaps bar the Stooges), but they still manage to play music that is actually quite challenging. The guitar playing by Kramer and Smith is superb throughout; they manage to convey so much energy it's unreal. A particular highlight is the great rendition of "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" by James Brown, where the two guitarists even manage to get in some delicate two-part harmony amidst the more out 'n out rocking moments on the album. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but rough
After reading the negative reviews for this album, I went ahead and bought it anyway, being a huge Happy Mondays fan. I've listened to it a few times now and I'm not sure what these other reviewers are talking about. Shaun Ryder is undoubtedly wasted, but that's how the Happy Mondays performed their shows. The other reviews seem to suggest that he's just sloppily falling thru the songs, but this isn't the case. These songs are full of energy and atmosphere. Plus, Shaun says some humourous things between songs, like when he talks about turning into Elvis. On many of the songs he gives a different twist on the lyrics which either clarifies or intensifies the meaning. The disc has a good song selection, and the final track, Wrote For Luck, comes to a droning end after about 12 minutes of intensity.

With that being said, there are a few negatives that should be pointed out. For example, at times the music almost drowns out Shaun Ryder's vocals. Also, there are some odd moments when the sound sort of cuts up. It's like the device it was recorded on couldn't handle the total volume of the speakers. This is most evident on WFL unfortunately. The songs are generally as good as or better than the studio versions. However, God's Cop is a sad exception. The part where the verse goes into the chorus is not nearly as exciting as the studio track, and ends up sounding a bit empty really.

Overall I enjoy this disc because it's got some interesting renditions of songs, and it has energy. The best way to enjoy this is on a home stereo it seems. The sound quality of the production is rough, but for a live cd it really works. The audience is rarely audible, so it's easier to focus on what's actually going on. The airiness of the performance and the overall smoothness are strangely appealing. Some of the songs that don't have the punch of the studio versions are enjoyable on a new level. Still, if you're not familiar with the songs then don't get this first. However, if you are a Happy Mondays fan, you might be interested in this album as an extension of their studio work. It's an important document of the greatest band in the last 15 years.

1-0 out of 5 stars did you know this was originally a bootleg?
i have the original of this cd which was a bootleg and they made this mess to make sure no one will be bootlegging this mess. well, did you know that the original bootleg was good? this one is the same except really bad production and a one of the worst cd covers i have ever seen! -Greg Stott 12/05/99

This would have been better (way better) if Shaun Ryder had stayed even remotely sober through past singing Kinky Afro then we might have been on to something, aside from muttering " errrr fookin 'ell" he doesnt make much sense through the later half of the gig. Pearl Jam's unprecedented documentation of their 2000 tour is intended to both foil music pirates and please their hard-core fans. The concert series also underscores Pearl Jam's unwavering dedication to the performance of their own music as well as some of their personal favorites by others. This second night at the Spodek in Katowice, Poland, finds the band in buoyant spirits--evident in both their performance and banter. Beginning with a trancelike "Release" from Ten the band slowly builds the drama through a long stretch of Binaural material, before serving up something of a concert rarity ("State of Love and Trust") and an also now-somewhat infrequent revival of old friend "Jeremy." Other relative rarities include "I Got Shit" and the B-sides "Leatherman," "Habit," "Smile," and "Yellow Ledbetter," as well as joyous, affectionate covers of the Isley Brothers' "Leaving Here" and Arthur Alexander's "Soldier of Love." --Jerry McCulley ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Shades of Early Peral Jam! (An Excellent Set!)
This set is one of the most interesting and best mixed of the tour, being a flashback in mood to the more somber sets of early PJ. Eddie announces early on, "We've got the place all to ourselves. . .We're just going to take it easy. . . plenty of time without the pressure of all those people..." and so they do - take it easy. Responding to their impoverished Polish surroundings, the quiet mood brings out the best of the old PJ mellowness, even the most raucous songs toned way down. Great versions of all songs, particularly a really laid back 'Of the Girl,' a spacey 'Sleight of Hand,' and perfectly performed versions of 'Animal,' 'Hail,' and 'State of Love & Trust.' Also commendable are 'In Hiding,' 'Off He Goes,' 'MFC,' 'Smile,' the not oft performed 'Leaving Here,' the 'Soldier of Love' cover, 'Last Exit,' and 'Yellow Ledbetter."

The night before in the same venue makes a nice companion, and between the two sets, ninety-five percent of the entire song schedule for the tour is represented. However, the band were noticeably nervous the first night being such a "long, long way from home" as Eddie says, not quite as on target as their second heartfelt night, and (the biggest drawback) not nearly as good a sound mix.

Pick up this one, and the must have Sporthall set from Germany, and you've got not only an excellent contrast to the varied moods of Pearl Jam, but also the very best of the tour. And if you MUST have a third, check out Milan.

5-0 out of 5 stars air guitar heaven
I have purchased 4 of these "bootlegs" and they are soooo good! I must restrain myself from purchasing more so that I have the $$ to buy some of the US tour boots when they are released. These recordings have rendered Pearl Jams studio recordings useless. The live versions of their songs are far superior, I will always reach for one of these recordings when I want to hear this band. Definately air guitar heaven, my wife has repeatedly caught me jumping around our apartment in my underpants pretending to be Stone Gossard. Mike McCreedy kicks with his classic rock sytle spiced up with weird sound effects. I love how he shows his Rolling Stones influence by playing some phrases from "can you hear me knocking" durining "of the girl" and his Brian Jones sounding slide work in "thin air" Ed has always been one of my favorite vocalist and overall great performer and seems like a cool guy. Matt and Jeff are solid.

Great set list, uncharacteristically starting the show with four mellow songs in a row, than letting it rip including great versions of "state of Love and trust" and the rare "leaving here".

Buy this one and enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pearl Jam buy
Pearl Jam did something unexpected on their tour in 2000. They recorded their shows and put them on the market for anyone to buy! This show stands out to me more then others though. Its a great bootleg with alot to offer. First, you get 2 cds instead of just one! Also some highlights of the cd are songs like "I got Sh*t" and "Immortality". There are also excellent preformances of songs like "Sleight of Hand", "State of Love and Trust", "Jeremy", Dissident", "Smile", "Black", and "Yellow Ledbetter" just to name a few. These 2 cds are definitally worth the money. Any Pearl Jam fan should get these cds. It will to be one of the best cd buys you will ever do.

5-0 out of 5 stars pearl jam live...they can only get better
I think when listening to the bootlegs from pearl jam i can decipher one thing alone, man does a band get better with age. Their first album, the highly produced ten, provided a good ground to jump off of, and the band did. By the time they reached no code they were flying. Sure they hit some bumps (some of Binaural is not as memorable as other pearl ajm work, but did any of you hear Sleight of Hand, Nothing as it Seems, Insignificance, and Light Years?) BUT these live shows (yes i['m speaking for the four i've heard, fila forum, spodek, seattle 2, and columbus [plus the touring band dvd]) really highlight how the band is now. If you notice from the live versions of older songs like Courduroy, Black, and Daughter, the band has learned how to turn a special song into something truly amazing. IF you've ever heard garden, as well, live, you'd know what i'm talking about. These already great songs are turned into rock and roll masterworks with the help of guitarists stone gossard, and especially lead guitarist Mike McCreedy. These guys bring songs to new levels. Also, has anyone noticed how much MAtt Cameron brings to the group. Every drummer helps pearl jam get to a new level. Krusen started them off, Abruzzanese (spelling?) gave them their rock star edge and really established them, Jack irons (thank G-d for him) saved the band in their perils and gave them new focus with his monotonous but beautiful (In my Tree, anyone?) drum beats, and Cameron helps them to rock out again. Cameron has figured how to keep the adolesence in the band. Did anyone notice that the version of go on fila forum sounds better than the original with its urgent and fast pace? How about new ones like insignificance and grievance. Both songs werre rocking on the cd, but live, they pulse forward. These live albums, especially Fila Forum and Katowice (Spodek) are simply amazing. The band has found a place to life off of again, almost like they're at a new beginning. And, hopefully, we haven't seen the end of one of the few (if only?) surviving Grunge bands.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Unique and Intimate Evening
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This show was apparently scheduled at the last minute, as Pearl Jam had to cancel a show planned for Budapest on the same evening. Hence, they decided to stay in the college town of Katowice, Poland, where they played a full show the previous night, and put on this surprise performance. It really was a surprise, as only a few thousand people showed up. So it turned out to be a very quiet and intimate evening, with the band deciding to give some special treats to the small crowd of rabid fans. In an unusual fashion, this evening starts off with four straight ballads, including a majestic take on a portion of "Release" to start the show (Eddie Vedder forgets to sing the second verse, and the band just skips that whole portion of the song). When the rockers finally emerge, they're still a little sleepy, but eventually everybody fully wakes up, and Pearl Jam deliver one of the most devastating performances of the tour. It's a little too long, and the show starts running out of steam in the (very long) encore, but for most of the show, the band performs flawlessly. Special treats are crushing renditions of the rarities "Immortality," "I Got S**t," and "Smile," which are performed rarely elsewhere in the tour; and bruising takes on the rockers "Hail Hail" and "Last Exit." Some other surprises are "Soldier of Love" and "Leaving Here" which the band decided to pull out of mothballs for this special evening. This particular bootleg is not representative of the series, and some non-PJ fans might be perplexed by this performance. But if you have several of the bootlegs, this is clearly one of the most intriguing and tantalizing of the series. ... Read more

I was at this concert at Madison Square Garden and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to.The energy in the room was unbelievable.PJ flat out rocked for three hours, joined by surprise guest Ben Harper on Daughter and Indifference.Highlights were an 8 minute Evenflow and a performance of Do The Evolution that you'll just have to listen to because I can't explain what it was like.I can't honestly say that this recording is the next best thing to being there, because the next best thing would be a mind-blowing orgasm, but this 3 CD set is the next best thing below that. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Play loudly.
Diamanda Galas, Plague Mass (1984: End of the Epidemic) (Mute, 1991)

Using words to describe this recording borders on the heretical, but I will do my best.

One night in mid-1991, I was driving down a small rural road listening to my favorite radio show, the Brent Banbury-hosted Brave New Waves (a show which, at the time, provided me with about 75% of the listening material that ultimately found its way into my CD collection). It was foggy, and there was no moon. Banbury, with his usual "there is no" segue, switched from something soothing-I can no longer remember what-to talking about the new album by a performance artist named Diamanda Galas. The name struck me, all by itself. Diamanda Galas. All those long, mournful "a"s drawing it out. Then I started concentrating again, and he was talking about the album being a piece of AIDS activism that was recorded live at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.Okay, I haven't heard a note yet and I'm already hooked. Music about AIDS recorded in a cathedral. How can you possibly go wrong? Then he did what he does best. He shut up and played the section of the album that begins with "I Wake Up and I See the Face of the Devil..." and ends with "Confession."

Movies, in the main, do not scare me. Books do not scare me. Being on the receiving end of a Glock 9 held by a drunk scares me a little. Plague Mass terrified me. The combination of the minimal, piercing electronics and Galas' vocal contortions and glossolalia, with the dark and the fog surrounding the car, came close to having me run off the road into a telephone pole. Just because.

Needless to say, I was at the record store when it opened the next day.

Plague Mass is a (slightly pared down, so they could fit it on a single disc, unfortunately) live document, as noted above, recorded live at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. While one will find most of the material herein on the two-disc set The Masque of the Red Death (equally as essential in the collection of any aficionado of avant-garde music), the versions of the tracks on Plague Mass are more fully realized. Ms. Galas is a far more ferocious performer live than she is in the studio, and the added punch of emotion in such pieces as "Cris d'Aveugle" here (after more than ten years, still my favorite single Diamanda Galas recording) brings them to a whole new level.

The album veers between the minimal electronics above, martial music, and Galas' trademark mournful solo piano. There is something here for just about any type of music fan, though the rest of the album will admittedly grate; her version of "Let My People Go" would probably not sound too out of place on an adult contemporary station that took chances, while "I Wake Up..." and "Confessional" would go better at a Xenakis retrospective. "This Is the Law of the Plague" should appeal to fans of mid-era NON for its almost military flair (it carries a distinct tint of the live half of In the Shadow of the Sword. Really).

This is a brilliant, beautiful, absolutely essential piece of music. Beg, borrow, steal, rent, burn, download, do whatever you have to do, then sit in a dark room, or take a 3AM drive on a foggy night. Turn up the speakers. Press play. You will love it or you will hate it, but one thing is certain: you will not finish the experience unchanged. *****

5-0 out of 5 stars The eight legs of the Devil will not let my people go.
In 1991, on the month of October, Diamanda Galas ascended the stage of New York City's Cathedral of St. John the Divine. There, she performed and recorded what may be the most memorable sound ritual ever to be heard by audiences. Both harrowing and angelic, "The Plague Mass" is a vocal exorcism birthed by a modern banshee. In most of the tracks, her operatic screams echo off the walls of the church, piercing the brain like flying shards of stained glass. Other moments allow her to disturb listeners with her hoarse, beastly hisses. However, Galas's intention was not merely to shock the religious. Instead, she turned the Holy Bible inside out in order to address the rampant suffering caused by AIDS. At a time when this disease was ruled as a divine punishment for gays and lesbians, Galas chose to spit gospel curses to every Christian responsible for persecuting and ostracizing HIV-infected patients. With candles flickering in the darkness, she speaks in manic tongues, vomiting forth a gospel hurricane that showed compassion to AIDS victims and unforgiveness to the viciously pious.
In "Were you a Witness?," Galas first expresses her anger towards America's mass media. It's apparent that the many deaths caused by the disease (including those of famous musicians like Freddy Mercury and Liberace) were treated like exhibits in a sensationalistic tabloid circus. She faces the money-hungry reporters and warns, "To all cowards and voyeurs, there are no more tickets to the funeral." "This is the Law of the Plague" incorporates several Psalms and Chapter 15 of the Old Testament. Here, in front of the rolling roar of dragon drums, Galas cackles in the role of a corrupt judge; a sanctimonious fascist who vehemently labels AIDS patients as "unclean." With a blood red light looming over her, Galas takes an appalling look at society itself. It's one where doctors, priests, and politicians deliberately leave HIV patients for dead just to avoid scandal and hatred. In addition, the singer labels the Devil as an impotent homophobe who can only be aroused by human suffering. "I Wake Up and See the Face of the Devil" allows Galas to portray the average victim. With a mind ravaged by dementia, she lies helplessly in a sterilized hospital room as a stern cleric forces her to confess her sins. The members of the clergy are warped into dirty angels that hover over the morgue like buzzards. Later, as the heartbeat percussion rises in its volume, Galas rips out some Revelations text. Predicting the arrival of the Antichrist, she leads 3,000 of his armies to massacre all devoted Christians who slaughtered and oppressed people with HIV. In an alarming fury, Galas spews a bitter poem concerning how anyone carrying the virus is shamelessly denied access to medical care, insurance, and surgery. She validly declared Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome as a form of homicide, making her audience aware of how infected men and women are robbed of their dignity. From there, in the track "Sono L'Anticristo," she proudly labels herself the son of Satan, since the Antichrist was as much of an outcast on Earth as Jesus. Then, "Cris D'Aveugle: Blind Man's Cry," a text originally written in 1873 by Tristan Corbiere, becomes a sad and spiritual communion played by a demonic symphony. In the Latin language, Galas leads her choir into a pit of despair, an afterlife that gives no love or comfort after HIV. As the bell tolls, Galas decrys the scourge of injustice. It's one in which family members killed by AIDS aren't properly buried because even the morticians are too afraid to embalm the corpses. During this song (as well as others on this album), her whispers get increasingly suffocated through a pair of hemorrhaged lungs, fading into a grim silence. Finally, the raw emotion of the blues tune, "Let My People Go" spills over the grim notes of a grand piano. Nothing is more terrifying than a virus that destroys the body's ability to defend itself. Galas believed that once AIDS strikes another host, that individual is doomed to suffer a lifetime of sorrow and cruelty. While comparing the illness to a sentence of life in prison, she expresses that person's depression in one sentence: "The Devil has designed my death, and he's waiting to be sure that plenty of his black sheep die before he finds a cure."
I recommend this album to anyone craving the works of a powerful, controversial artist. Diamanda Galas is a sonic martyr that liberates the soul from mainstream bondage.

5-0 out of 5 stars All Music Guide Review
"Galas, who has been known for both her own work and as a singer of extremely demanding modern scores, has created this heart-wrenching cry about the physical suffering caused by the AIDS plague being compounded by the shameful arrogance of self-appointed moralists. Maintaining an incredible intensity and depth for over an hour's solo vocal (recorded live at The Cathedral of St. John The Divine, NYC, with suitably minimal band and electronics backup), Galas proceeds through Mahalia Jackson-influenced spiritual singing, saxophone-like wails, to dramatic dialogues in many dialects and languages ("there are no more tickets to the funeral") to engrossing Portugese "fado" singing to taking on the attributes of Satan (in "Sono L'Antichristo," I Am The Anti-Christ) in order to challenge the concept of a vengeful, instead of compassionate deity (and society), much as Nina Simone did in her controversial song "God is a Killer" in the 60's... the Mass ends with the heart-felt lyrics "I go to sleep each evening now dreaming of the grave and see the friends I used to know calling out my name. O Lord Jesus, do you think I've served my time?""

5-0 out of 5 stars UNCLEAN!
This has to be Diamanda at her absolute finest. This is even better than "The Litanies of Satan"! Recorded live (like the majority of her releases) at St John's Cathedral (from where she was arrested the year prior). Words can't begin to describe the atmosphere she creates here. This focuses on the religious right's condemnation of AIDS victims. My favorite track is "The Law Of The Plague", in which she spits out Leviticus with an indescribable acidity. I can't recommend this enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wrath of God
People have called Diamanda Galas many things, usually missing the mark entirely. Far from being the notorious "Bride of Satan" she is the voice of Truth shrieking at maximum volume. "This Is The Law Of The Plague" left me awestruck and alone is worth the price of the CD. ... Read more

One of the shorter sets on the European tour, the Pink Pop festival isn't short on great material. Maybe due to the brevity of their time slot, Pearl Jam chose to give the fans a treat and dust off four tracks from Ten: "Even Flow," "Once," "Black," and "Jeremy," a tune that only rarely shows up on the European tour. The show really begins on a high note with "Corduroy," kicking things off with a jolt on a tour in which quieter, slower tunes usually lead things off. In fact, the first four songs are all pretty high-energy until vocalist Eddie Vedder paints a little more somber picture with the introduction of "Rival" and "Jeremy." He describes the rarely played tunes as "a couple of songs about Americans killing each other" after he sarcastically notes that "we Americans have really futuristic ways of handling our population problem--we give each other guns and kill one another." On a lighter note, the set ends with a spectacular, full-tilt version of the rock & roll nugget "Leaving Here." --Adem Tepedelen ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Unlucky Thirteen
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. The unlucky bootleg just happens to be #13 in the series. Some critics have ragged on this one because it is extremely short, at just 91 minutes. This is by far the shortest in the series, and is more than half an hour shorter than the tour average. However, Pearl Jam only got a limited amount of time to play at this multi-act festival in Holland. This is indicated by the fact that there is only one encore in this show, instead of the usual two. So the short set is not a good reason to criticize this bootleg. Unfortunately there are several other reasons for criticism. It is plainly obvious that the band was not taking this gig very seriously. This is a disservice to the paying fans that went to the event, and it also makes for one very unimpressive bootleg. The carelessness of the band is evident early in the show, as the usually powerful "Animal" and "Hail Hail" fail to ignite. The attempts at the extended solos to end "Jeremy" and "Habit" are complete failures as the band breaks down into uncoordinated noodling. There are few strong tracks, like "Light Years," "Brain of J," and "Rearviewmirror," but these fail to save this sloppy show. The show ends very inconclusively with a lazy "Leaving Here," which is a cool song but not an effective closer. I suspect that the band decided to wrap it up early and split, and didn't think it was necessary to provide a true finale. The brevity of the performance can't be criticized too much, but this is still a pretty unsatisfactory bootleg.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best!
Landgraaf does have one of the shorter setlists, but it is also one of the best of all the live CDs. I would reccomend buying all of the live CDs, but that may not be too likely. However, if you want just a couple, this is one of the ones you should get. It is all really great songs. My favorites are Breakerfall, Jeremy, Light Years, Even Flow, Rival, Black and an incredible version of Betterman. Highly Reccommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best live performance ever on cd, trust me, BUY IT
I'm a big Pearl Jam fan, and so far I picked the Lisbon bootleg cd and the Pinkpop cd, and I have to admit that this (forgeting that i am a big fan)is one of the best live performances captured on cd. I was at the Lisbon concert, bought the cd afterwards, and all the memories came back. Great stuff, I gotta have them all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars you have to hear it for yourself!!
311 is the greatest band that has ever been, is, and will be. Their unique blend of musical styles is so apparent on this CD, and the energy on it is no less than it is at one of their concerts. If you want something to take you back to the greatest experience of your life (a 311 concert, of course!), _this_ is the CD for you! :-)

NOD YOUR HEAD!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This CD is sik-
On the way to the 'Sprite Liquid Remix Tour' my friend threw this cd in and i thought it was great....didnt know many of the songs but it sounded nice....when we get to the concert 311 was on the bill and they were the best out of the 6 groups there (3 rock and 3 rap) it was unbeleivable so i went out and bought this cd...it just puts me back in the mosh pit

4-0 out of 5 stars Good But Missing The All Time Fan Favorite
This is a great live album with alot of great tunes like Applied Science with the extended drum solo. Some of the songs are a little slow but still great. On here, you can find the fan favorite cover or Human Rights' Who's Got The Herb? which is a non album track found on the Hempilation: Freedom Is Norml benefit compilation. Also, Tribute, a non album song from the blue album sessions from ETSD. The one flaw I'd say this cd has is the absence of the all time fan favorite Fu88 the Bullshi8 and the more little known Summer of Love. Still this is a great album that doesn't deserve a Parental Advisory or and edited version (then again, nothing does). I own the regular one.

5-0 out of 5 stars 311 being Live is even better.
The only thing better than listening to a 311 CD is listening to 311 live on a CD. And the only thing better is going to their concert. But that isn't as easy as having this CD. I'd rate it 5 out of their 12 CD's they have. Its a great CD of theirs to own. I'm so glad 311 came out with a Live CD, very smart move.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best sounding bands
I own the "explicit lyrics" version of this CD but for some reason, amazon does not sell it. But thats not the point.

311 "Live" is possibly one of the greatest cds that I own. 311 is also probably the best live performance I have ever seen. I have seen them in concert about 5 times already and I would go over 1000 more times. They bring so much energy and positivity to the stage with them that once you are in that theater, you never want to leave. So I am glad that I can now capture some of that same emotion on CD.

The cd contains 14 of mainly their more popular hits that were played live. The entire cd is phenominal from beginning to end, but the highlights would definately be Homebrew, Beautiful Disaster, Misdirected Hostility, Nix Hex(With Tim Mahoney's unforgettable extended guitar solo), Applied Science(with Chad Sexton's unforgettable extended drum solo), omaha stylee, galaxy, hydroponic, and feels so good (with P-Nut's unforgettable bass solo).

So even if you haven't seen them live before, just by listening to this cd, you can tell that they bring massive amounts of energy to the stage with them. But if you haven't seen them live, buying this cd will only get you a part of the Live 311 experience. Go see them live for yourself and you will find that you will be anxiously waiting for every chance you get to see them live again. 311 CAN'T BE BEAT!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Performance, But With Some Problems
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. Pearl Jam gave this Atlanta bootleg the coveted "Ape/Man" designation - the symbol on the back cover stating that this is one of their favorite shows in the tour. I will have to respectfully disagree in this case, as this is not one of the most stellar gigs in the series. More worthy shows in the first American leg of the tour that are better than this but did not receive the "Ape/Man" tag include Philadelphia I (#45) and Pittsburgh (#48). Anyway, this Atlanta show is better than average, as compared to the series overall, but has some real problems. On the good side, Jeff Ament is especially strong, adding some extra heavy licks to his always dependable grooves. Stone Gossard is also in fine form, shining on a higher than average helping of Stone-intensive tunes like "In Hiding," "Rival," and "Once." One of the problems with this show is the fact that Mike McCready didn't feel like lighting it up. He's either bored or sick, but his work tonight is pretty disappointing. Even his usual finger-licking outro to "Yellow Ledbetter" is dull and uninspired (this time he adds a few tired lines from Van Halen's "Dance the Night Away"). "Crazy Mary," "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter..." and "Ledbetter" really drag as everybody is off their game. Eddie Vedder makes a travesty of the first verse of "Immortality" and mangles some of the lines in "Nothingman" as well. In the stage talk department, Eddie is a little less talkative than usual, though he does throw in a few jabs at tonight's villain of choice, Ted Turner. You know, sometimes it's a little hard to take seriously a guy who still despises the rich and powerful after selling at least 20 million records.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pearl Jam at their best....LIVE
I've been eagerly awaiting the release of the American "bootlegs", after continuosly listening to the European series. This perticular show holds a certain special place for me, because I was there when it was recoeded. The performance that night was amazing. The band played some great surprises, "Crazy Marry" and "The Man Trilogy: Leather Man, Better Man, and Nothing Man" Only after seeing Pearl Jam NOT perform some of their biggest "radio hits" do you understand how many truely wonderful songs they have written. The Cd is sans "Alive" and "Glorified G" and some others; however, it still sounds like a live soundtrack to 90s alternative radio. The packaging is simple and keeps the price down for a DOUBLE CD, making it affordable to buy multiple performances. Although, in my opinion the Atlanta show should be mandatory, of course I'm biased. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Live Side
I held off buying this CD because I already had all the studio stuff and thought the live set without Damon Edge would be lame - I was Dead Wrong. The players assembled for the live shows faithfully recreate Chrome's sound from the mid-90's and add some outstanding embellishment on many of the songs. I've played the live CD so loud and so many times the neighbors have finally stopped coming by to see what's exploding over here. If you are any type of Chrome fan, buy this for the live side - it will jam your fossil.

4-0 out of 5 stars Crazy studio junk and a smokin live set from venus
This is my first exposure to Chrome, but I'd say its a great way to get to know them. A double Cd for pretty cheap....

The studio stuff is wonderful.. the vocals, the guitar, the drums... all sound great (or terrible depending on your tastes). Twisted, acid drenched punk. Sounds a lot like you feel when you're coming down off of a trip....

THe live set is from 1998, but it still rocks. The vocals on the 1st song are very Resident-esque.

If you've heard The Delta 72, Flipper, The Stooges, The Residents, and perhaps King Crimson(?), or are generally into musical perversions.. buy this man! ... Read more
