5-0 out of 5 stars I was there!
I bought this CD simply because I was there in the concert hall and it was my first Pearl Jam concert. PJ seldom comes to Malaysia or Singapore, if not never. But I was lucky to be there in Manchester and managed to get a ticket before it sold out.

About this CD, all the songs are truly magnificent and it has the second best (my opinion) rendition of Black. I find the best to be in a bootleg CD of their concert in Atlanta, GA back in 1995. But most memorable of all, I cried during the concert when Eddie was singing Yellow Ledbetter. It was simply.....beautiful.

For new fan of PJ, get this album and you'll end up as a fanatic like me! I'm sure you'll love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars First for my bootleg collection but not the last
I'd heard a lot about the hamburg show and a couple of the others but they weren't in when i went looking. i chose this because it had some new stuff, and also had some personal favourites (black, nothing man, once). i can assure you that i was not disapointed, right from the start this is an awesome set and was surprised that it hadn't been given a bigger write-up. yellow ledbetter, footsteps, state of love and trust, once, rearviewmirror, light years and of the girl all sounded great. and betterman sounded fresher than it has in a while. the banter on stage is great as well, and hearing eddie pay out on oasis is worth the price of the cd alone. my only complaint is that black seems a little flat tonight... not to worry though, there many more bootlegs to satisfy that thirst. although it isn't the most diverse list on the 25 it still stands up strong. but with a band like pearl jam, what more would you expect

3-0 out of 5 stars The Bottom of the Bootleg Barrel
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. Of all the bootlegs in this series, at least 60 out of the 72 are well worth the money and preserve great Pearl Jam performances on disc. But some shows just had to be below average, and this show in Manchester is one of the worst bootlegs in the series. The problems tonight are a generally careless and sloppy performance, plus many musical errors, and it appears that the band just didn't care what kind of impression they were making. For example, "Evacuation" and "Even Flow" are woefully uncoordinated, with lazy playing by Stone Gossard and Mike McCready that really throws off Matt Cameron's concentration. "Daughter" and "Wishlist" both start poorly and end inconclusively, when the band members simply give up one by one instead of putting together a strong ending. The villain tonight is Stone, who commits many obvious and painful errors that he shouldn't be making on songs he's been playing for ten years. Stone absolutely demolishes the final chorus of "Once," throwing the whole band into a state of confusion. Mike could have saved this show if he felt like it, but he didn't. Mike is barely present for much of the show, and probably spent many songs sitting on a road case and smoking, just standing up once in a while when he got to do a showcase solo. The lowest point is an insultingly lazy take on "Garden" in which everybody sounds like they don't even feel like doing the song. This track barely makes it through to completion. Pearl Jam has really served the fans well by releasing all these bootlegs. Most are great, and a few are below average but forgivable for such a long tour. But this one is definitely near the low end in quality.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not their Best Effort
At best, a great setlist bogged down by a seriously sloppy effort. You might want to skip this one. There are several superb European performances, including Verona, Milan, Katowice II, and Cardiff. However, I guess it all boils down to personal preference. What the heck, a mediocre Pearl Jam show still smashes most of the music out there (raise me a star)!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The most underrated PJ Bootleg.
There is alot of buzz about the Verona, and Katowice II bootlegs, but Manchester is just as good, if not better. I bought the Verona one, this one, and the Stockholm show. The song selection on all three is great, but this one surpasses all of those that I have heard. Eddie sounds great, and his mood is less moody here than he is reputed. He even is playful. The banter with Stone is great!

Manchester even has a few tour rarities to listen to. Nothingman, Garden, and Leatherman are all tracks that don't show up often on the tour.

Eddie's voice seems to peak at this show. Not that he sings badly on any of the others, but he sounds extra good here. The tunes are plays flawlessly by Stone, Jeff, Matt and Mike. This is just a great show. And it appears that others are beginning to think so too, when I bought this the availability was 2-3 days, now it's 1-2 weeks. Get this before it's gone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredable Concert
1. Lisbon, Portugal May 5 2000 5 Starz

This show was their first concert to kick off their Binaural tour, Pearl Jam sounds as fresh as ever. The crowd is incredible, definitely the best crowd out of all the concerts. The crowd knows all the lyrics and they belt them out as loud as Eddie. The band starts the show with Of the Girl and then speeds things up with songs like Do The Evolution and Animal. Even Flow is as lively as can be. Thin Air is the best live version I've heard. Eddie shows the power of the crowd during Daughter, even as Eddie finishes the crowd continues making it an experience as if you were there. Immortality Eddie forgets the words but the Lisbon crowd picks up for him and belts out the lyrics. Betterman is powerful as the crowd starts singing before Eddie does. Black is definitely the best song on this bootleg as Eddie finishes the song the crowd makes Eddie and the rest of the band sing along again. This show is definitely a must have for any music fan, It makes it seem like your actually there. This show is a Top Five show of this tour.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the first night...
Recently, I really got into the music of Pearl Jam. I acquired their studio albums, and all that remains is the live stuff. So I decided to take on a massive undertaking and get all 72 bootlegs.

The first show in Lisbon is not bad for opening night. While the band is far from their top form, they show a lot of promise in this first bootleg. The opener, "Of The Girl," is fabulous, and the band shows a lot of energy on "Do The Evolution," "Animal," "Red Mosquito," and other tracks on the first disc. Technical problems disrupt the momentum of the show, but there are several good performances to be found on the second disc as well. "Thin Air" is good, "Alive" is wonderful, and so is "Yellow Ledbetter." The band makes good on some of their mistakes as well; "Faithful" is not without its problems, but it sounds just fine. Not that the band isn't off on a few tunes; "Daughter" sounds rushed, "Evacuation" sounds just as bad live as it does on the album, and Eddie Vedder flubs portions of "Wishlist" and "Immortality." But overall, the show isn't bad for the first night, thought there's undoubtedly better shows to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best live crowd EVER!!!
Yes, Eddy flubs lines in Wishlist and Immortality.

Yes, the drums break in the middle of Faithful.

But get this cd just for the crowd. That's right, the audience is the star of this concert. I have a few of these bootlegs and nothing matches this Lisbon crowd. Wish I was there.

5-0 out of 5 stars I WAS THERE PEOPLE!!!
IÂ'm Portuguese, i was there! It rocked so hard, you wouldnÂ't believe! The portuguese crowd is definetly one of the best in the world, and itÂ's refered by many bands as so. This show was scheduled for the atlantic pavillion, which has a capacity of 15.000, but the tickets sold out in a week, so it was re-scheduled to a rather big stadium nearby.
Almost every song was sanged along with the band, as it is in almost every concert played in portugal!

Scorpions recorded their "unplugged" album and dvd here too.

We are proud of the reviews, thanks for the recognition!

Pearl Jam Rocks!

3-0 out of 5 stars Annoying crowd, poor sound quality
I just recently started collecting the pj bootleg series, and this one is the worst one I got so far. First, the sound quality is much worse than some of the other ones I have (seattle2, boston2), the audience noise is very grainy sounding. Also, the crowd is pretty annoying, they do these weird chants (sounds like "alive") throughout the concert between songs. The performances in general sound very lack luster. On the other hand, this is the only one of the series that has all four big pj songs from the first album: alive, even flow, black, and jeremy. ... Read more

Though he's describing the weather when he says it's as "hot as the devil's asshole," Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder could just as well be talking about this amazing show, one of the most remarkable from this tour. The bluesy "Of the Girl" starts the show, and is one of five tunes from Binaural in the set, including "Grievance," "Light Years," "Insignificance," and the first live performance of "Sleight of Hand" during the encore. The encore, despite what sounds to be a briefly dropped drumstick during "Black" and a noticeable lack of any bass in "Evolution," is one of the best the band has done, mixing crowd-pleasing favorites with an obscure cover like "Timeless Melody" by power-pop one-hit wonders the La's. Whether the crowd is inspired by the excellent performance or the band is responding to the enthusiastic crowd, Vedder proclaims that "so far, this is the best crowd," a compliment he doles out infrequently. --Adem Tepedelen ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Czech This Out
While other PJ fans have rated this show as a so-so performance, I must admit, the first disc alone is worth the purchase. There are some noticeable mess-ups all over this disc, but it's still a great show (especially the crowd interaction). The "Untitled" song on the first disc is fantastic, with the Czech crowd chiming in prior to a raucous version of "MFC." The highlights of this disc are "I Got Sh*t," "Of the Girl," and an extended "RVM." "SOLAT," my favourite PJ song, is somewhat overshadowed by Stone's initial screw up to start the song (so far, #38 in Columbus has the best rendition of the tour). "Red Mosquito" starts out great, but during the verses, someone is playing some really off chords (Cameron has a great drum fill during the solo). "Go" is pretty solid and "Betterman" includes the "Save it for later" tag and is done fairly well. I felt that this show was above average, and very deserving of a four star review. If you are going to buy only a few of these "official bootlegs," I'd strongly suggest Philadelphia the first night (#45), you won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Underrated Show - The Best From Europe
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This gig in the Czech Republic hasn't gotten much attention, and rarely makes fans' lists of the "best" of the bootleg series. But I feel that this show is the best from the European series. The sound quality is crystal clear, unlike many of the European bootlegs, the crowd is loud and enthusiastic, the set list offers many surprises, and the band is energetic and flawless. While Eddie Vedder keeps the stage talk to a relative minimum, he delivers one of his funniest and sickest moments in the tour when he says "...last time we were here it was really cold...but today it's as hot as the devil's asshole." And he wasn't just talking about the weather.

The key ingredient in this great performance is Mike McCready, who is positively on fire. Get a load of his incredible soloing in "Red Mosquito" (which makes a rare but very welcome appearance here), "I Got Shit," and his regular showcase "Black." Mike adds freaky and feedback-drenched rhythm work to two more of his personal classics, "Present Tense" (the best performance of this song in the tour) plus "State of Love and Trust." This show also offers above-par versions of "MFC," "Even Flow," and "Go." The moody "Sleight of Hand" makes it first appearance in the tour here. I thought the studio version of this song was rather dull, but it works very well in concert as a slow-burning tension builder. The cover of "Timeless Melody" by The La's is a nice addition, and the four final songs ("State of Love..." through "Yellow Ledbetter") make up one of the most effective closing sequences of the tour.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Concert
I was in Prague at the time and decided to go to the concert and watching it live was incredible. Couple months later they were selling all the tours on CD so I decided to buy it for keepsake. However, this should be in any collection...if you like pearl jam you'll love this live performance...i was suprised how close it sounds to the real thing. ... Read more

If Pearl Jam fans wondered whether there could ever be too much of their favorite band's live "good thing," the objects of their affection spent much of 2000 in an unprecedented effort to find out. Addressing the issue of pirate concert recordings and overpriced bootlegs head-on, Pearl Jam recorded and released every show on its 2000 European tour as budget-priced double-CD sets. Perhaps because of the relative reserve of the German audience (especially compared with the virtual Pearlmania of other Euro dates), this is one of the more run-of-the-mill shows on the tour. Featuring the by-now eclectic and unpredictable set list that's come to characterize their show, the band dispenses the warhorses "Breakerfall," "Even Flow," and "Alive" relatively early in the set, and they almost seem to coast through the second half. Vedder is at his manic, muttering best on the bridge of "Daughter," but "Last Kiss" and "Once" seem lethargic, especially slotted into what should be the show's building climax. This was surely one of the band's more reserved outings on the tour. --Jerry McCulley ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Half of a Great Performance
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This is one of the more average or non-descript entries in the Pearl Jam bootleg series. Actually, this gig starts off very strongly, and the first disc presents a pretty powerful performance. Of special note is "Rearviewmirror" which makes an unusually early appearance in the set, and contains a wonderfully dark and dissonant jam session in the middle. "Not For You" is lowdown and creepy, and there are extra strong takes on "MFC" and "Even Flow." Unfortunately, this show takes a turn for the worse in the second disc. The extended jams in "Alive" and "Daughter" are mistimed failures, where it appears that nobody in the band can decide where to go next (however, Eddie Vedder adds a verse of the Who's "Behind Blue Eyes" to "Daughter" for an emotional effect). "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter," "Black," and "Yellow Ledbetter" are all badly out of sync with flagging, sluggish tempos. Indeed, for much of the second disc, someone (maybe the normally flawless Matt Cameron) is playing very slowly, dragging down the rest of the band into a tar pit of sluggishness. This also happens to be one show in which the often stupendous Mike McCready sounds bored and disinterested, much to everyone's detriment, as for most of the show hardly a peep is heard from him unless he gets to do one of showcase solos. Eddie manages to keep the crowd interested by giving them some German salutations, along with some friendly chatter in English. In one interesting moment, after "Last Kiss" Eddie says, "I hate that song." He was probably joking, but that number wasn't performed too well either. All in all, this is one-half of a great concert.

5-0 out of 5 stars It was hell of a show!!!!
I was one of the lucky 70.000 people who had the chance to watch Pearl Jam live that night. It was a grat show because both the crowd and the band itself was very enthusiasted. (I have seen them before in Istanbul). I think some of the solos and Eddie's vocals are a good proof of how the band enjoyed the show as well. This album is a must for every PJ fan because of the raw energy it contains.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best of the best
this is the best of the best. just a great preformance.Only disoppointment i wish they would extend some of the jams on a few songs but other than that this show is amazing, vertually flawless!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of the Series
The music, the crowd, the set list, the solos, are all perfect. This or the Milan show stand out above the rest. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Made again...really...
This is Marillion's second live album, the first one being 'The thieving magpie' back when Fish was still in the band. This is their first one with h (Steve Hogarth) on vocals (followed a few years later by 'Anorak in the UK').

This 2 CD collection is a combination of three different concerts, on done in 1991 from the 'Holidays in Eden' tour, from which Splintering heart, Easter, No one can, Waiting to happen, Cover my eyes and The space were taken; another from 1994, from the 'Brave' tour. The whole album is present live in the second CD. And finally, a concert from 1995, from the 'Afraid of sunlight' tour, from which Hooks in you, Beautiful, Kayleigh, Lavender, Afraid of sunlight and King were recorded.

It is without a doubt a gret testament to what the band can do when performing live. You must remember that these are songs of some complexity, yet the lads play perfectly, giving them new strength and passion.

There's also a 'Brave live 2002' CD being sold at marillion.com. If you like this here CD, you should get the newer version and compare them...it's really worth it to hear how they've changed and grown in six years...

5-0 out of 5 stars After Fish.......Hogarth TIME!!

When Fish left MARILLION and begin his solo career, most of their fans believe that no one can deliver this songs with the passion and intensity of the Jester. I included myself in this group until I heard Hogarth version of Script for a Jester's tear included in their bootleg, Live at Caracas. With his tune, Hogarth has impress a special and wonderful spiritual orientation to Marillion`s music. Just hear MADE AGAIN: CD1 includes live versions of songs played in Holidays in Eden, Season`s End, Afraid of Sunlight and Misplaced Chilhood. CD2 is a complete and enriched version their Brave album. This album proves, without a doubt, that Hogarth, far to be a replacement, with his voice start a new Marillon's epoque. A great live album!!

4-0 out of 5 stars The space around the stars.
Made Again is a 2CD set that chronicles the Holidays in Eden, Brave, and Afraid of Sunlight tours. Each song is performed on a bedrock of the band's chemistry and onstage energy. When Fish was in the band, they had La Gazza Ladra. With Hogarth, they have this release. (Balance must be maintained or the universe will be torn asunder!)

First up we have London 1991, with Holidays in Eden. Although a lot of fans wail Holidays in Eden for being overboard on the pop qualities, I really like that album. And it seems the crowd does too. They clap along, sing once in a while, and their energy really pulls you in to the audio-only live milieu. One problem is that Steve Rothery's awesome guitar solos don't come through very well. Those classic moments on "Splintering Heart" (love that song...) when the gentle sonics break into Rothery's emotional solos lack the same impact as the studio version. That's too bad. It's also damaging to the impact of "Easter", which has one of the most beautiful guitar solos _ever_. Steve Hogarth makes up for it though...he puts a lot of soul into the performances here, and his voice is great live. He hits every note of the brilliant pop cut "Cover My Eyes", and makes "Waiting to Happen" an even more moving song. And they perform "The Space"! That's one of my favorites, with that classic, dramatic keyboard melody and chorus...so good, so good.

Now we're off to Rotterdam in 1995 for Afraid of Sunlight. Highlights are the spine-tingling performance of "Beautiful" and the emotion-packed "Afraid of Sunlight". Rothery's guitar sounds much better here too. If you like surprises, you'll like this -- the band performs a medley of songs from Misplaced Childhood, "Kayleigh", "Lavender", and "Bitter Suite IV. Blue Angel"! I can't help but think of them as cover songs...they just seem to be inextricably part of Fish-era Marillion. However, the performance is amazing. Hogarth sings them excellently (lots of feeling...he's good at that), and Rothery's embellished soloing is awesome. The performance of "King" also comes across better than the album version, with more energy.

That's it for disc 1. For the second disc, the band is in Paris on the Brave tour...and they perform the entire album. You might wonder how well this works...after all, Brave is an extremely elaborate production job. No worries...where the band can't match the studio performance's production, they make up for it with energy. Also, the volume level is more consistent than the studio disc (though the quiet parts are still really quiet). The hard-rock numbers like "Hard as Love" and "Paper Lies" feel more natural and loose. "Goodbye to All That" loses some of its effect without all those ambient sounds, but it's still a powerful, powerful epic. "Falling from the Moon" shows the band at its emotional peak, with a tragic guitar solo and amazingly sincere and fervent vocals. "Made Again" brings it to a calm finale.

If you've enjoyed Hogarth-Marillion over the years, I strongly recommend this set. The song selection is pretty much perfect, and the performances are great (again, Hogarth is awesome live). Get it! Get it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Marillion's best compilation
This Live set has more energy and feeling than their studio albums (which are also very good!!). Somehow this recording captures the backbone of Marillion as a band even as not all of the "hits" are included. The songs are extremely well linked together. Once you push play there is no way to stop the first CD from playing until it reaches the end.

The first CD covers some of Marillions best known songs as Eater, Cover my Eyes, Beautiful, Kayleigh and King. The second CD is a live interpretation of the Brave album which is one of the best prog concept albums of the 90's. Both CDs are excelents in terms of sound and interpretation. As with the new remastered Marillion released the inner booklet has good notes in reference to the shows, the band and the music at the time.

Again, this live set may not be the most comprehensive in terms of amount of material but it delivers Marillion at is best. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Eddie Is a Donut
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This extremely lengthy bootleg is one of the longest shows in the 2000 Pearl Jam world tour, and at a whopping 31 songs it's tied for first place in number of tracks. The other three shows in Germany were all a lot shorter than this, so maybe the band wanted to give the Berliners a marathon session to make up for it. This show gets off to an incredible start, with the surprisingly effective opener "Sometimes," followed by some PJ's heaviest rockers like "Hail Hail" and "Breakerfall." There are some surprises in the set list, like rare appearances by "In Hiding" and "Evacuation," and a creepy "Improv" tune (which sounds rehearsed to me, but still effective). "Not For You," "Immortality," and "Rearviewmirror" combine to bring the first set to a tremendous and transcendent close, while the evening unexpectedly ends with the chilling "Indifference." Unfortunately, this show starts to run out of steam in the encore, with "Thin Air" and "Wishlist" really dragging, and there are painfully obvious errors in "Do the Evolution" and "Alive." But by that point, the band was understandably tired, and so was the crowd. The funniest moment of the show is in the break in "Habit," when Eddie Vedder murmurs "I am a donut," giving a possible translation of JFK's infamous "Ich Bin Ein Berliner" speech. Who knew the guy was a history buff?

4-0 out of 5 stars Was expecting more
I agree with the other reviewers, the CD is worth purchasing. The impressive number of songs and live version of Indifference make it so, but I recently purchased the San Sebastian concert, and by comparison, I was disappointed with the energy at the Berlin concert. Vedder doesn't talk much, the band seems to be going through the motions, and the crowd doesn't seem to get into it until late in the show. With so many European concerts to choose from I read many of the reviews and tried to be discerning with my first purchase (San Sebastian) but happened to be in a music store and picked up the Berlin concert on a whim expecting similar awesome results. Next time I will do alittle research before purchasing.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best of this series
I've seen Pearl Jam live 4 times, and never got to hear Indifference live...So getting this was a must for me. The sound quality on this one seems better than some of the others I've bought. Lukin and I Got Id are icing on the cake for this set, which is well balanced covering all their work, and not overly heavy on any one album. This one, Verona 20/6 and Spodek 16/6 are the best of the 7 I've got from this series and if you're going to get just a few of these, then this one definitely should be on the short list!

5-0 out of 5 stars Berlin gets lucky
A live version of Indifference is reason enough to buy this CD. Indifference as the closing song puts Berlin in the lucky seat of the world. A rarely performed gem, Eddie Vedder's vocals glow into the air. This bootleg will be a favorite of die hards. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Fairly Scruffy Performance
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. Pearl Jam has done a huge and unique service to their fans by releasing recordings of all 72 shows from the 2000 world tour. With no editing or remixing, these bootlegs show just how human the band really is. Since they're human, you can't expect them to blow you away with every single one of these bootlegs. People who went to this show in Germany would have been completely pleased by this performance, but collectors of the bootlegs will find that this was a below-average show, as compared to the better entries in the series. There are a few surprises in tonight's set list, such as the unexpected use of "MFC" as the opener, plus good takes on the relative rarities "Gods' Dice," "Spin the Black Circle," and "Leaving Here." There are a few other strong moments, especially "Once," "Black," and Mike McCready's great outro to "Yellow Ledbetter." But despite those few winners, overall this show is fair-to-middling at best. While talking to the crowd, Eddie Vedder describes the band as "five fairly scruffy guys." That's also a pretty good description of this below-average show.

4-0 out of 5 stars A short show, but full of surprises.
This show isn't as long as the Forum show or the second Katowice disc but it holds a few surprises of its own, especially the appearance of "MFC" as an opener. This is the first rocking opener played on the tour and quite rare for a band that tends to kick off sets with a mellow song. Other highlights are "Lukin," with Ed barking the lyrics, and an extended Improv before the main set closer "RVM." "STBC" and "Leaving Here," are stand-outs from the encore. Overall an interesting set list from a shorter than average show. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Quite as Hot as the Temperature
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. At several point in this show, Eddie Vedder mentions how hot it was that night. Perhaps the high temperature made the band a little sluggish. Eddie is very talkative and enthusiastic tonight, and the crowd holds up very well, but the musical performance on this bootleg is very average, with a slow-moving and tired feel overall. But what could have turned out to be a way below average show is saved by a very intriguing set list. Several songs that were played rarely elsewhere in the tour appear tonight, like "Gods' Dice," "Red Mosquito," "Present Tense," "Smile," and "Soldier of Love." In an unexpected twist, "Of the Girl" adds some mystery to the middle of the set, instead of appearing as the opener like usual. In one of the funniest passages in the entire tour, Eddie invites a guy with a broken leg named Andy to the stage to help sing "Smile," and the band messes with his mind when he tries to get the song started. Way to go, Andy. Fun moments like this, plus the unusual song selection, make this a pretty enjoyable bootleg despite the rather sluggish performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!
I was at this show and it was wonderful. This is a great bootleg to buy because it has one of the best versions of Jeremy I have ever heard. There is so much energy in their performance. Some highlights of this bootleg include: Soldier of Love, Smile (duet with Andy York, a fan), Porch, Yellowledbetter and Jeremy. It was a fantastic show. It is a great example of how exciting this band is live. I highly recomend purchasing this cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Sound Quality, Better CD
While the heat and humidity might have gotten to Pearl Jam, it did not dimish the quality of the concert at all. I've listened to several of the double lives from the US and what distinguishes Nashville from many of the other albums is the clear soundboard quality of the recording, that seems to be lacking from other concerts. One of the highlights of this concert is Vedder's voice dying at the end of Jeremy and after the song he gets a man named Andy who is on crutches from the side of the stage to start off the next song "Smile". After a few shared swigs of wine between Andy and Eddie, and trying to get the song started with a count, they finally get it started. I highly recommend this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ben Harper shines
Ben Harper shows why he is gaining a reputation for being one of the better live performers in music these days. With a great rendition of Voodoo Chile, and many other stunning tracks this CD is definitely worth checking out for any Ben Harper enthusiasts. The last track "Excuse Me Mr." with "Burning and Looting" lyrics added on the end is amazing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but too brief. Should be called an EP.
Back when Ben Harper was relevant and sang songs with varying styles and with some EMOTION, he made some great music. This CD captures some of it. It's nice to listen to, though the brevity of the CD calls for this to be called a CD EP. If you're a Harper completist, by all means buy this. If not, there are a couple of tunes not available elsewhere so you have to decide whether your wallet (or purse) is full enough to afford this import. I found it used, so it was worth the money. I wouldn't buy it new...

5-0 out of 5 stars Yessss!
This live EP is absolutely stunning, musically as well as from the point of view of quality (I really can't see why the other reviewer didn't like the quality).

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Official Live Release By Ben Harper
Live from Mars is not very indicitive of Ben Harper Live. It is too subdued and loses the intimacy that Ben shares with his audiences. This Live album is much more true. It is a staple for all Ben fans and is only eclipsed by the wealth of incredible live bootleg stuff on the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny
Live CD's...we all know the sound quality isn't the greastest but, how can it be? In reference to A Music Fan from CA's harsh review of this CD, the only thing that person may be missing is a decent stereo...I was able to hear Voodoo Chile just fine and it's great, just as I expected. This CD captures (as best as a CD can) what Ben is like live. Fight For Your Mind is awesome and bassist Juan Nelson throws down a great bass solo at the end. Excuse Me Mr./Burnin' and Lootin' is also a great example of Ben live...he's always tacking parts of Marley songs on the end of his own. Every song on this CD has little things you don't expect/never hear on his studio CD's...solos, more vocal range, and some of those things only Ben can do with his Weissenborn guitar. I personally think this is a great CD for any fan of Ben's...you'll listen to it much more than a mere 2 or 3 times. ... Read more

It's the little things that make each show a band plays unique--the between-song banter and stories, the song selection, the slight variation in performances. This set, early on in Pearl Jam's 2000 European tour, has the feeling of a waking beast that is groggily pulling itself from a long slumber. The roiling dark clouds of "Long Road" and the edgy "Breakerfall" from Binaural give a lurching start to a set that doesn't fully ignite until Ten's "Even Flow," when guitarist Mike McCready pulls out an extended solo that is expressive and explosive. Vocalist Eddie Vedder is upbeat and conversational throughout, warning the crowd to "Be careful, we're going to be here a long time," and talking about Barcelona's own "Hendrix," famous artist and architect Antonio Gaudi. Plenty of the hits are played with gusto ("Alive," "Black," "Daughter," "State of Love and Trust," and "Last Kiss"), but a couple of less commonly played tunes, "I Got Shit" and the sweet, simple "Thin Air," are noteworthy at the end of the regular set. --Adem Tepedelen ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Still getting going....
This is the second show of Pearl Jam's 2000 tour. The opener at Lisbon was a perfectly solid performance, surprising since it was the first show. It is at Barcelona that Pearl Jam shows that they're still warming up. The show is a little more ragged than Lisbon, but it is to be expected. This does not mean that there are no great performances to be found here. There are several, most notably the opener "Long Road," "Even Flow," and a blistering take on "Breakerfall" on the first disc, and "Black" and "Yellow Ledbetter" are highlights on disc two.

But as stated above, the show is ragged, with mistakes to be found on "Light Years," "State Of Love And Trust," "Wishlist," and "Elderly Woman." Normally pounding rockers such as "Hail Hail," "Animal," and "Do The Evolution" don't have nearly the amount of furious energy they should, and the first tour performance of "Rearviewmirror" is incredibly rusty. This night's performance of "Daughter" is better than the opening night at Lisbon, but as the bootleg series progresses, the song becomes much better than what is featured here.

However, I don't blame Pearl Jam for a bad show at Barcelona. It's a competent performance by a band that isn't completely warmed up yet.

4-0 out of 5 stars Shaking Out the Cobwebs
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This second show of Pearl Jam's mammoth 2000 world tour really shows the band waking up and starting to get down to business. The tour opener in Lisbon was very rusty and disjointed (understandably); but this follow-up in Barcelona, while still a little ragged, is a great improvement and shows that the band is really ready to get this tour rolling. There must have been a great atmosphere in this venue, as the band sounds incredibly relaxed and limber. Thus the songs have a very loose feel, and a bluesy, groovy sound is the result. This is especially true of Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron, who deliver a little extra swing tonight. Stone Gossard and Mike McCready are relaxed and perfectly in sync, giving each other plenty of room to operate. Good examples of this extra groove are the more mid-tempo numbers, like "Given to Fly," "I Got S**t," and "Betterman" (which here is more compact and is not yet the jam-session vehicle that it would become later in the tour). Never fear, because the loose mood also improves the heavy rockers, like "Animal," "Even Flow," and "State of Love and Trust." This show begins and ends in an impressive fashion, with extra emotional renditions of "Long Road" (a highly effective opener) and "Yellow Ledbetter." Unfortunately, the groovy feel of this show doesn't last, and miscues and errors start to pile up towards the end of the set, making this bootleg rather average overall (as compared to all the other bootlegs), but it is still enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best live discs I've ever heard
I had the privelege of stumbling into this concert while backpacking around Europe this past May. I have always been a big Pearl Jam fan, but never had been able to see them live, given the difficulty just about every Pearl Jam fan has had trying to get tickets to one of their rare shows.

This concert was perhaps the best I've ever attended. It was general admission, and the large floor in front of the stage was packed full of people. Despite a mostly Spanish audience, the crowd sang along, word for word, to every song.

In the recording, Eddie's vocals drown out the crowd in most parts, but during some refrains the echoes really add to the feel of the disc. Rear View Mirror features one of the coolest Pearl Jam jams I've ever heard.

Pearl Jam flat out played their hearts out on May 25, 2000, and everyone in the audience could feel it. I will never forget that concert, and after hearing this release, it makes perfect sense why. If you are a Pearl Jam fan, buy this album!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Show
I was at this show and it was truly amazing. I have since been converted to being a PJ fan (many can't believe I wasn't before). The boys were extremely excited to be doing the show and they absolutely cranked.

5-0 out of 5 stars help the cause.
great live album, but that isnt really the point. everyone who even likes pearl jam at all should buy at least one of their 25, two disc set, official bootlegs. pearl jam is great live and that they would release uncut concerts is great. more bands should try this. i have a theory, the more successful pearl jam's official bootlegs become, more bands will think that this might be a good idea. wouldn't you like to hear an entire radiohead, counting crows or your favorite band's tour uncut. sure you could hunt down a tape of this set made with a recorder held by a person who keeps yelling in the mic and get a decent idea of what the concert sounded like. wouldnt you rather have a professionally recorded version of the same concert? support official bootlegs!!! buy at least one of pearl jam's official bootlegs. on this set i enjoyed the versions of elderly woman in a small town, and do the evolution quite a bit. yellow bedletter is always good. eddy's between song banter is great. you cant beat a european crowd either. SUPPORT THE CAUSE, BUY OFFICIAL BOOTLEGS!!! SHOW THE RECORD EXECS THAT YOU ENJOY SPONTANEOUS MUSIC. MAYBE NEXT YEAR YOUR FAVORITE BAND WILL TRY THIS SAME THING. ... Read more

"Release," a rare treat from the band's debut, Ten, leads off this second set from Spain, recorded in San Sebastian. The crowd is immediately singing along to the slow but powerfully cathartic opener, and vocalist Eddie Vedder is singing with absolutely unbounded passion. As seems to be the pacing of Pearl Jam's sets on this tour, instead of kicking off with a sonic blast, the momentum is built slowly and with great care. By the time they get to the rare treat of "Jeremy," which is played infrequently on this tour, they have hit full stride and are cruising. This night's encore, peppered with tunes that don't show up on many of the other dates, such as the brilliant "Last Exit," "Immortality," and "Whipping" from Vitalogy, and "Smile" from No Code, is the most exciting part of the performance, keeping the crowd going with mainstays such as "Alive," "State of Love and Trust," and "Last Kiss." --Adem Tepedelen ... 5-0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS CD!
This CD is incredibly good and like all the CD's in the series is of excellent sound quality. The reason this CD was my choice out of all the live shows was the superb track selection. It starts of slow with "Release" with the crowd singing along well to the opener and it is not long before it really livens up. By the time we reach "Jeremy" which is rarely played on the tour Pearl Jam are in full flow. "Even Flow" and "Daughter" are also played to the crowds delight on the first disc. The second CD starts off with an incredible version of "Better Man". "State Of Love And Trust", "Alive" and "Last Kiss" are performed like all tracks on the 2 discs brilliantly. The final song "Yellow Ledbetter" completes a great nights entertainment for the lucky Spanish crowd. I will definately be buying more discs from the series but if you are only going to buy 1 or 2 I would strongly reccomend this one. To sum up an essential purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars How did they top Wembley?!?!
I have written one previous review for one of the Pearl Jam live series, which was the live from Wembley on the 29/05. I thought having been there live and buying the superb recording that it couldn't be topped, but not for the first time, I have been proved wrong by Eddie Vedder and co. His Spanish outing in San Sebastian is so far, the finest of all of the series (remember I have only 11, so I may be proved wrong, if so let me know any better shows!)

I had no idea Pearl Jam were so big in Spain, but they tear the city apart with this blistering set. Even when the band aren't firing on all cylinders, as in 'Alive', they make light of it, by offering the croud the oppotunity to choose the next number, and by admiting there shortcoming, and in doing so, endure themsleves to the croud even more than previously.

Stand out tracks on this album are 'Last Kiss', Jeremy, Release which has never been so haunting, Immortality and the all too absent 'Whipping'.

In conclusion, if you only by one or two of this series, buy this one, if you buy all of them, buy this one first as it is sure to sell out early!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Un concierto fantastico!
I'm biased as hell for writing this review because it was the first on only pearl jam concert i've ever seem. The CD set does justice about as much as a bootleg can. An incedible CD of an incredible concert. From the opening chords of "Release" to the closing harmony of "Yellow Ledbedder" this cd is phenominal. The sound quality is also noteworthy since the venue was so small (only about 9,000 max capacity) which really adds to the acuoustics and the overall quality of the recording. True, errors were made on the bands part, some of them downright embarrising, but thats what makes this CD set so endearing. And the story of PJ surfing that afternoon in the middle of a huge storm is priceless (especially since I remember that storm and how wet I got waiting outside before the show!)

3-0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately disjointed and uneven.
This is the third of Pearl Jam's 72 official bootlegs.

And it also happens to be one of the most frustrating. About half of the show is a mess, while the other half is really brilliant. Mistakes abound, but in between those mistakes are some wonderful performances.

To start off with what went wrong, ten of the songs on the bootleg contain flaws whether they be major or minor. Eddie Veddr flubs minor lyrics on "Do The Evolution," "Even Flow," "Last Kiss," "Yellow Ledbetter," and "Whipping." That isn't so bad, however. The major mistakes happen mostly toward the end, and it slows the pace of the show down terribly. Eddie messes up "Immortality," and the band has a tough time getting "Last Kiss" and "Smile" off the ground. "Light Years" is played in the wrong key, and "Daughter" is a mess for the first minute or so. Then there's "Alive." Pearl Jam messes up one of their best tunes so badly that it's actually funny to listen to. the mistakes are so numerous that Eddie jokes, "So much for being a professional rock band."

That's the bad stuff. The good stuff is also there, but the listener has to dig for it. The opener, "Release," is excellent. "Corduroy" features a fabulous guitar solo, "Of The Girl" is great, and "Even Flow," even with the minor flub, is the best it's been out of the first three shows. "Daughter" is very good once it gets off the ground; "Rearviewmirror," "Betterman," and "Hail, Hail" are the strongest they've been so far. "State Of Love And Trust" is good, and so is "Last Kiss" once the kinks are worked out.

Pearl Jam has played much better live. The unfortunate part about the San Sebastian concert is that the mistakes overshadow the bright spots by far.

5-0 out of 5 stars 90% Brilliant, 10% Disaster, and All Good
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This third gig in the bootleg series is a pretty difficult one to review, because it gives you two extremes. Most of the tracks are brilliant, and are among some of the finest performances of the tour. But then there are a few disasters that are just so bad they're good! After a rusty tour opener in Lisbon, and a more competent show in Barcelona, the band really hit their stride for this third show, but not without proving in a few songs that it's still early in the tour. The good numbers in this show include a majestic "Release" as the opener, and scorching takes on the rockers "Last Exit," "Hail Hail" and "Whipping." There are a few surprises like "Faithful" and "Smile," and even a pretty enjoyable blues jam that the band improvised to kill some time in the encore. Plus, you get the strongest "Even Flow" of the early part of the tour.

But this is a special show because of the errors, which are such disasters that they're really hysterical, and you just love the band even more because of them. Stone Gossard screws up the intro to "Light Years" by playing in the wrong key, Eddie Vedder forgets at least half of the lyrics to "Immortality," and "Last Kiss" gets off to such a disjointed start that they have to stop and start over again. By that point the band was really flustered, because of their catastrophic attempt at "Alive." First, Eddie forgets the first verse, then the entire song breaks down during the solo, with everybody except Jeff Ament having to stop playing and figure out a way to get going again. The fault is apparently Eddie's, as before the solo he sings the "yeahyeahyeah yeah yeah yeah" that really belongs after the final chorus, and half the band goes into the solo while the other half goes into the outro! What a disaster, but like I said, it's so bad it's good. Of course Eddie apologizes profusely for the rest of the show. One of the great things about this bootleg series is that Pearl Jam have left their mistakes in plain view, while any other "official" live album would have the glitches edited out. This is a real treat for the fans, and show the band's humanity. So San Sebastian is indeed a "very special" performance, 90% slamming, 10% horrendous, and all enjoyable. ... Read more

Amazon.com's Best of 1999

Angular art punk fronted by a dagger-wielding madman with literary pretensions? The Birthday Party didn't simply flirt with chaos, they inhaled it; chaos flowed through their veins and ignited the spark for every firing synapse of this exquisitely dark band. Led by caterwauling vocalist Nick Cave, Live 1981-82 captures this dangerous bunch at the height of their powers. Not for the squeamish or those sensitive to abrasive noises, but a spectacular car wreck nonetheless. --S. Duda ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Birthday Party: "Live '81-82" CD
A good representation of the Birthday Party live (for those of us who weren't there). All songs are stellar versions, even those hard to imagine live (orchestral arrangement on "Nick the Stripper" is well-compensated by guitars). There are two never-before-released songs, both of which are great (esp. "Pleasure Heads . . ."). And if you're still wondering about this album's merit, listen to their version of "Funhouse" (believe me, no matter what your expectations, it's better).

If you want some visual to accompany the audio, seek out the live Birthday Party video "Pleasure Heads Must Burn" -- two shows (one with Phill Calvert on drums & the other with Mick Harvey replacing him) separated by the video for "Nick the Stripper" (shot in a city dump, the extras being inmates from a local insane asylum). Therein contains video to document the song "Pleasure Heads . . .", which could not have been done justice in the studio (a la the MC5's "Black to Comm").

5-0 out of 5 stars psychotic
The birthday party have always been one of my favorite bands. This record is so intense. The version of "KING INK" is terrifying and the vocals are absolutely psychotic. Makes A. Vega's hoots and hollers seem tame, sane and sad. This band existed when alternative music really was alternative. Pick it up and worship its intensity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely.
A superlative live album. Previously, the only available live Birthday Party recordings were the "Drunk on the Pope's Blood" e.p and the legally dubious "It's Still Living". This far surpasses both not only in passion and sound quality but in song selection as well. The fan favorites like Junkyard and She's Hit are here of course, but some obscurities like Bully Bones (I think the only other recorded version of this is on one of the Peel Sessions) and songs of which live versions have never been released, such as The Friend Catcher and a cover of the Stooges' Funhouse (which sounds as much like L.A. Blues as it does Funhouse), are also represented. All the individual members are in fine form with Rowland Howard's guitar work being the stand out. Has there ever been another guitarist who could combine such fury and solicitude? And what more can be sai about Nick Cave? Besides being one THE great lyricists, he also happens to be a fantastic performer and a man of much deadpan & sardonic wit. How the multi-varied personalities of this group managed to combine into such a fearsome, coherant whole is one of life's great mysteries, but one for which we should all be thankful.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best band in the world, for a while there...
All my Birthday Party LPs have sat gathering dust for over a decade, but the sight of this in the racks fired off neurons in the dusty corners of my brain. What an absolute moster of a band. For a while there nobody could touch them. I saw them in DC in 82, and this brought it all back. Now THIS is alternative, not Pearl Jam butchering some oldie that was lousy to begin with. Nick flagellates himself while the guitars test the limits of electricity, and the bass and drums thunder in unison, just barely holding the whole thing together... each song an emotional catharsis, wailing and shrieking until it lurches to a stop and twenty people clap. You don't dance to this music, you quiver and throb to it. So here's one to send all you Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson fans running back to mommy... Once upon a time there was a band called The Birthday Party, and they ruled the Kingdom far and wide...

5-0 out of 5 stars Return of the Beast!
Once upon a time, boys and girls, there were a group of gentlemen who called themselves the Birthday Party. For a few short years they terrorized audiences with an assault that pulvarized, shocked and basically annoyed anyone who had the misfortune of crossing their paths. The sound can only be descibed as the Stooges trying to cover Captain Beefheart after a night of partying! The group(as all great groups do) self-detructed under their own excessess. The groups' leader,Nick Cave, went on to have a long solo career. This record is culled from several live shows during their heyday. The sound is surprisingly good considering their reputation. If you're already a fan this is a must have.If you're merely curious.....well ,you should enter the world of the Birthday Party at your own risk! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great buy!
Pearl Jam playing LIVE in their hometown (mine too). I witnessed this very concert live and I'm one of the many in the Key Arena that night that belted every chorus with Eddie Vedder and cheered my heart out all through each song. A very worthwhile experience with one of the best bands of all time. I'd strongly encourage this tour "bootleg." This double album is a SERIOUS Pearl Jam effort with songs ranging from every part of the band's career (even "Crown of Thorns" from the fledgling band Mother Love Bone which included Ament and Gossard pre-Pearl Jam). Very thorough and satisfying set list that rivals the following nights' (Seattle, WA 11/6/00) which was a disc longer with more covers and more hits from "Ten." Great sound and great playing from every member. Cameron never sounded fuller and stronger, Gossard's rhythm was very prominent, Ament and his underlying bass style stood strong, McCready was always there holding place and kicking the best solos around at the perfect times with a strong bellowing Vedder at the mic, as usual. Very commendable for a band that was a day away from the end of the tour. Tired? Doesn't sound like it a bit! Mind you, this concert took place 3 days before the 2000 Presidential Election fiasco so you'll hear Vedder speak his mind between a few songs about Bush. In all, I feel the band was more refreshed on this outing than other live date bootlegs as Vedder commented on "how good it feels to perform with his own house key in his pocket," expressing a mutually bound happiness to be back home playing with their feet firmly rooted in the ground.

A great buy, worth all 5 stars!

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent rythm section!
This cd has amazing drumwork by Matt. Sometimes Mccready is drowned out by Gossard , maybe it's the mix. But then again he sounds good on most of the songs. This is a powerfull record with very energetic takes. I think Ben Cramer's review gives you a good idea of this bootleg....

5-0 out of 5 stars High Energy P.J.
Wow! Pearl Jam storms the stage and goes the distance. (Think AC/DC or Iron Maiden with a more meaningful song catalogue.) The amps must have been set at eleven. 'Nashville 8/17/2000' didn't crunch this much. The set is tight with a varied song selection from pre-P.J. to 'Binaural'. The cover of "Timeless Melody" is a new creature. "Yellow Ledbetter" shined on this outing. Seattle #1 is more fun, than the law should allow.

4-0 out of 5 stars In the Shadow, but a Pretty Good Homecoming
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This second-to-last show in the grueling 2000 world tour, which was also the first of two nights in Seattle, is definitely overshadowed by the famous tour finale the following night (which, by the way, is a little overrated). But this gig is a reasonably solid, though not too spectacular, outing for the band. One major problem is a mysteriously subdued and un-enthusiastic audience, whom Eddie Vedder unsuccessfully tries to rile up a few times. I suspect that the crowd drained a lot of energy out of the band. Meanwhile, Mike McCready is barely present for much of the show, only popping up when he gets to do one of his showcase solos. The unsung hero tonight is Matt Cameron, who is having a great night and rescues his bandmates from the blahs. Poor Mike suddenly roars back to life after the encore break (maybe he got a smoke in), and he really lights up the rest of the band, so the encore section of this show makes up for the underachieving first half. All of the songs in the first encore ("Timeless Melody" through "Porch") are intense and resilient, except for a couple of gaffes in "Last Kiss." Despite the dead crowd, the band throws in many surprises for their hometown friends. This includes "Crown of Thorns" by Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament's pre-PJ band Mother Love Bone (this rendition is more successful than the first time they tried it, in Las Vegas). The guys from opening act Supergrass join in for a jaunty cover of "Timeless Melody" by The La's, while a two-woman string section (which includes Matt's wife April) adds some serious drama to the emotional "Parting Ways."

5-0 out of 5 stars Underrated bootleg starts to get credit
With Seattle I just finishing behind Seattle II in sales, it looks like its finally getting the credit it deserves. Disregard Eddie's comments about the crowd on this one - the bootleg is about the music, not the crowd, and the music rocks. This show contains the best and most aggressive versions of Breakerfall, Whipping and Do The Evolution that I've heard so far. Timeless Melody with Supergrass is pretty amazing, as is Parting Ways with the string section. Every fan should own a copy of Crown of Thorns, so if you don't have Las Vegas then you should buy this one. This was definately one of the best setlists that Pearl Jam put together in their 72 show tour. Combine that with the fact that Eddie's voice was at his peak around this show and this Seattle I becomes a must-buy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Hard-to-Find Disk
Ride was one of the most underrated bands of the late-80s and 90s. They paved the way for Blur, Oasis and The Verve. This is a collection that showcases their best when they were at their best. The only downside to the disk is that it's basically a bootleg and the recording hasn't been mastered as well as it should. Maybe when the reunion comes...any takers? Still gets 5 stars from me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Live Light Shines
This disc is a good document of Ride's 1994 Carnival of Light European tour. The selections are an interesting cross-section of the band's career to that date. Songs like Seagull, From Time to Time and End of the Universe show what a formidable live band Ride was. It is a shame that this release ignored many more prominent songs from the setlist (such as Vapour Trail).

What we are left with is a quality recording of one of the better live bands of the '90s. In person, Ride was mindblowing. On Live Light, they are in good form as well. Live Light may not be the ideal document of a Ride concert, but it captures enough that it will leave you wanting more.

2-0 out of 5 stars not up to their studio standard
I was, quite frankly, disappointed with this live album. Ride sounds dispassionate and boring - quite unlike the innovative and exciting quartet I had long been used to. The few gems on the album include the infectious "Let's Get Lost" and the beautiful "At the End of the Universe," but overall, Live Light is a weak album. For collectors only. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost a Killer
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. Here is a good example of a PJ bootleg that starts out fantastically but gets ragged towards the end. All of disc one and the first track of disc two ("In My Tree" which makes its first appearance in the tour), are performed with extra power and precision by the band. An exception is "Wishlist" in which Eddie Vedder forgets a sizeable chunk of the lyrics, but is saved by the band's fine performance. "Brain of J," "Evacuation" and "Whipping" make punishing appearances early in the set, while extra soulful renditions of "Jeremy" and "Insignificance" also appear unexpectedly early in the evening. In a funny moment, Eddie offers to hold on to a bootlegger's tape recorder so the guy can put his arm around his girlfriend. This outstanding performance, unfortunately, begins to unravel with "Black" in which Mike McCready is having a hard time staying in tune. From there until the end of the show, each song gets worse as the band becomes more and more disjointed and out of tune. The low point is a horrendous take on "Last Kiss" in which everybody commits several errors. Perhaps there was a problem with the weather, or the band was getting tired, but this bootleg only holds up for about two-thirds of the running time. However, the earnest and emotional "Smile" is used here to close the show. This great song was played rarely in the tour, and was never the finale except for tonight.

5-0 out of 5 stars 8/6/00 - Greensboro, North Carolina
First off, I am a big Pearl Jam fan. I bought four of the European live CDs and one of the other domestic live CDs (VA Beach). I bought this one for a couple of reasons: I used to live in North Carolina (closer to Greensboro than Charlotte) and the excellent setlist (including songs rarely performed live like "Whipping" and "In My Tree").

This is a great live album. It's not the longest that they've put out (although there are twenty-seven songs, which is nothing to sneeze at), but it has a good mixture of new and old material, all of which is good. You have early hits like "Black" and "Jeremy" (both of which are extremely rousing renditions) and then you have newer tracks like "Grievance" and "Insignificance" (my two favorites from Binaural), all of which sound fresh.

As I mentioned above, there are also some songs here that aren't played all that often live. "Crazy Mary" is a good, mellow song that isn't often played (in full) live. "Soon Forget," the B-side from the "Light Years" single, is also a gentle, mellow song, replete with a humorous flub on Ed's part. "Last Kiss" and "In My Tree" (which Ed gathers courage for from his bottle of wine beforehand) are also not heard all that often.

The songs that are played at nearly every show aren't exactly weak, either. This rendition of "Rearviewmirror" is one of the best I've heard; it's extended and quite emotional. "Do the Evolution," always hard rocking, rocks particularly hard here. "State of Love and Trust" and "Corduroy" have rarely sounded better.

There's also some humorous banter from Ed, like after "Evacuation": "Matt Cameron wrote that last song... Matt Cameron. Try to get the singer to lose his voice, 'cuz drummers, by tradition, don't like singers. Actually, Matt wrote the music, I wrote the lyric part... So maybe I just don't like myself."

I would definitely recommend picking this one up if you're a fan: Great setlist, great crowd, great performance, and a great band. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars a bit short for the money it costs...
Being a fan of The Nephilim, this was a must-have for my collection.

Here's the list of the tracks: 1. Endemoniada, 2. Love Under Will, 3. Moonchild, 4. Blue Water, 5. Chord of Souls - total running time: 30 minutes (only!)

The fact that there is enough space on a cd to fit 70+ minutes onto it and in this case only getting 30 minutes (at that price!) was a bit of a bad thing, imho.

4-0 out of 5 stars Buy today, don't delay.
Not quite the sound of Earth Inferno but to have Endemoniada & Blue Water live (previously live only on video)is a reason enough to snap this one up. Reminded me of when I saw them in concert, when Moonchild was released prior to Nepilim hitting the stands. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bevis Frond is original one of a kind music.
Great album by founder and lead guitarist Nick Salomon, bass guitarist Ade Shaw of Hawkwind fame, and drummer Andy Ward formaly of Camel. I had the chance to see this tour in a small venue in Portland, Oregon. I had never heard of Bevis Frond, but Andy Ward is from my favorite band Camel and I had to see him play. The music was awesome, a mixture of psychodelic, feedback, blues, and folk, with some english humour thrown in and lots of heart. Nick is a master songwriter and introduces many of the songs on this CD. This gives the listener a sense of knowing a lot about Nick and where he is coming from.

The live album brought back great memories of the show. The opening song Hole Song #2 has a great guitar lick which is unforgetable and my favorite tune, Stone Trained Driver has an original set of lyrics that will make you smile.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bevis Frond at the Great American Music Hall
It is truly a wonder how so much talent can be often overlooked by so many. This man proves that there are geniuses all around us everyday. Buy it and be amazed.

5-0 out of 5 stars What you hear live is what you get on CD
The Bevis Frond finally scraped their live sound onto a full CD after many years and many albums that psychedelic music fans cherish. Their sound on the live CD is the same as their sound on the stage. And I think that's the best compliment anyone can give a live record. ... Read more
