Ween is often dismissed as a novelty band, but those who stoop to such judgments should check out this shaggy document of Gene and Dean bringing it to the people. Paintin' the Town Brown captures the brothers Ween in their early days playing to DAT accompaniment through their full band stints. The strongest cuts on this release come from their 1996 country tour; backed by a crackerjack band of Nashville studio legends, Ween saddles traditional honky-tonk with politically incorrect lyrics and the whole package seems to make a lot of sense. Longtime fans will be thrilled at the inclusion of obscure Ween cuts like "Mountain Dew," "Vallejo," and "Ode to Rene."Casual fans will have a hard time with disc two, a spotlight on Ween's overindulgent Boredoms-like jams. Still, it's hard not to admire a band that tackles French cabaret music, Middle Eastern drones, funk, punk, and demented children's music. --Jason Josephes ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a cool album... BY WEEN!!
This album is so awesome. The bits where Ween talk about the songs are so funny... those guys are so bizarre, and insanely immature, and hilarious, and awesome. The songs with the Nashville Boys are standouts, but also earlier songs like "Doctor Rock", "Vallejo", "Mister Could You Please Help My Pony", "She ****'s Me", and the greatest acheivement ever recorded on tape- a blazing 20-something minute version of "Poopship Destroyer"... what else do you expect from Ween. One thing I wonder about is why didn't they put any live vesions of the songs from "The Mollusk" (my favorite Ween album) on it. Oh well, this album is still one strangely rocking live document to one of this country's best, and most duos, Ween. (The liner notes are hilarious... I just thought you might like to know)

2-0 out of 5 stars For fans...
I remember when I bought this CD... it was during my post-college, pre-employment phase. I woke up at about 3:00pm, swallowed a handful of asprin to stave off a bad hangover, went to pick up the CD, came home, popped it in and sat on my couch with a bowl of fruity pebbles... the full Ween experience! Anyway, I was pretty disappointed. I mean, I had sprung for the CD instead of another fifth of Early Times whiskey!! The first disc is listenable, with some great moments from their awesome '96 tour (best Ween tour ever??), but also some really badly recorded early stuff. There is a great version of "Mountain Dew" though, that will make this disc worthwhile for hardcore Ween fans. The vastly varying sound quality is what ruins my enjoyment of the first disc overall... if it was all lo-fi (a la "The Pod") I could have dealt with it, but going from crisp, pro-engineered multitrack recordings to amature DAT stuff is just annoying. The second disc has the best version of "Poopship Destroyer" and a hell of a lot of noodling that doesn't sound so good when one is sober.... hmm... A few years down the road, and I'm a respectable member of society. I still love Ween, but this is definitely the disc I reach for the least. This is aimed squarely at serious fans, and newcomers or general listeners should definitely start elsewhere... Not bad, but certainly in the "For Fans" category.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you don't know WEEN, you ain't brown...
Lets face it -- if this album is your first exposure to Dean & Gene Ween's music, your response will probably range from mild annoyance to outright cringing. But for us Ween officianados, and especially for those who have been fortunate to be blessed with a 4-hour live show or two, this album is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Early super-sloppy inclusions such as "Mushroom Festival in Hell" and "Mountain Dew" demonstrates the band's remarkable ability to really rock without really worrying about how they sound (you'll see what I mean). But before you dismiss them as just another over-indulging garage band, check out the hard-as-rock licks by Deaner in "Awesome Sound" or Gener's soaring vocals in "Can't Put My Finger On It" or Claude Coleman's other-worldly drum solo in "Vallejo". Ween rules. God bless the Boognish.

4-0 out of 5 stars one star off because..
i swear i have bootlegs that are longer and better than this, but you have to love it since ween lovingly handpicked the songs themselves. the 26 minute poopship is a masterpiece, and i wish they had the hour long vallejo on another disc making it three but this is just fine. for a live album, ween has so many great live shows and some very old funny ones back in the days when 23 to 12 people were at a live concert, most were held in parking lots, they should have put out a 5 or 6 disc boxset, including all the old concerts, some more nashville material and all the funny stuff. but this is fine, get it or die!

5-0 out of 5 stars an awesome sound going down...
Not for the sonically squeamish. Parts of this album are so sick you can't even believe it. Gene implores Deaner not to hurt 'em, but he just doesn't listen! Buy this now and look forward to hours and hours of Boognish-bliss... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Full Energy in Chicago
Pearl Jam put together an incredible show for their Chicago performance. Coming off a show that nearly froze them and their fans in Wisconsn, and forced them to wrap things up early, the band went all out in Chicago. Eddie Vedder makes reference to the weather, although vaguely, early on, and promises to play for a while in Chicago.

Whoever was working the sound board for this recording did an excellent job. Each member of the band is captured vividly. The crowd noise is just about perfect for this live recording. Their voices accompany Eddie at just the right volume in songs such as 'Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town', 'Release', 'Betterman', 'Black', and 'Baba O'Riley'. The audience participation goes a long way towards capturing the energy of the show.

One of the highlights on the album was accomplished when the band played 'Lukin' as an intro for 'Not For You'. They didn't miss a beat, and the crowd, revved up by the break neck speed of 'Lukin', carried the energy right into the rebellious 'Not For You'.

Although I don't all the official bootlegs from Pearl Jams last tour, I do own several. This is among the highlights of the tour.

5-0 out of 5 stars get this show
This is the best official bootleg that I have heard so far. I have about 20 of them and this is definately a stand out. The band is obviously energetic and play great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two discs of solid love
Longer than most of their shows, this two-cd set captures the love that Pearl Jam has for their fans. The previous night's show, in East Troy, WI, was intensely cold (as Eddie details on the cd). Since they shortened that show to prevent themselves and their fans dying from hypothermia, Pearl Jam made the next show a long one. The whole thing covers a huge chunk of Pearl Jam's catalog of work and includes a few covers. If you are looking for live music from Pearl Jam, this set is about the largest continuous chunk you're going to find.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Scorcher in the Windy City
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. Not including the final show in Seattle, which contains a lot of extra stage talk, this gig in Chicago is the longest entry in the American portion of the 2000 bootleg series. Apparently Pearl Jam decided to make up for the previous night, an extremely cold outdoor gig in Wisconsin that they had to wrap up early before they froze to death. As an added bonus, this show manages to justify its huge length, giving the crowd an extra-long dose of prime intensity. The dependable set list includes a few pleasant surprises, like a majestic opener in "Release," plus the welcome rarities "Red Mosquito" and "In Hiding." Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament keep things moving tonight, giving some of their personal best performances of the tour, especially in "Gods' Dice," "Jeremy," and a better-than-usual "Even Flow." The Man Trilogy ("Betterman" to "Leatherman" to "Nothingman") mellows out the middle of the evening effectively, while "Parting Ways" and "Rearviewmirror" close the first and second sets in convincing and dramatic fashion. If you're looking to buy only a few of these Pearl Jam bootlegs, this one is not one of the most incredible in the series (in the eyes of a die-hard fanatic), but is a great example of a solid and intense performance by a great rock band that is still knockin 'em dead after all these years.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was there, it was the best night of my life
First I would like to say that I was personally there. Everyone in attendance that night was so energenic and absorbed into every word that came out of Eddie's mouth. After the second song Corduroy was played I said to myself that it would be hard for any song to top that version.... later that night Eddie proved me wrong. Many of the songs played that night were the best versions I've ever heard. Eddie's talks with the crowd are priceless. It was so inspiring to see this mega-super star taking time out to talk and laugh with his fans. I own many live CD's by Pearl Jam and I have to say that I've never heard Eddie's voice so on cue. I loved every minute of his performance. Eddie talked and danced and really showed how much emotion he puts into his work. I'm not even going to call it work because for Eddie Vedder music is a passion and did nothing less than prove how much he truely loves what he does. He played a 30 song night which seemed to never end. I sorta feel bad now because I don't think that any concert I see from now on will be as amazing as Chicago in 2000. Nonetheless, 10/09/00 will be a night that I will always remember. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars The Muppets Take Copenhagen
OK - it's not as if Galaxie 500's live show ever was much to brand with superlatives. Check out Damon & Naomi's modern-day wankfests for evidence (and bring me back some Romilar as a souvenir ... zzzz ... ). Aside from serving some sentimental purpose for the G500 folks now moping through middle age, ain't much this CD, documenting the band's final European performance, has to offer. Like most live recordings, the bass is mixed too high, the guitars too low in some sort of a jagged murk, the vocals from some cave north of Omsk. And those voices - yeesh, and this is when Wareham's forlorn whininess actually sounded most at home. On "When Will You Come Home," though, it sounds as if he's been hanging out in the kitchen with the Swedish Chef and a puppeteer has a hand up his rear. The covers (Yoko Ono, George Harrison) are interesting in and of themselves, but God bless y'all if you see the need to listen to them more than once.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
Before Low, before Mogwai and before Luna, these guys were perfecting the perfect slow core pop, I was lucky enough to catch them play live and since they wont be doing that anymore this is a perfect document as to how great Galaxie 500 sound outside of the studio.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
I actually purchased this record on itunes after listening to a few samples, and all I have to say is that I am amazed. The depth of the sound of this live show is nothing short of astounding; I cannot believe that this is a 3 piece band. For the most part, the performances are dead on (especially the vocals- this guy can sing, unlike a certain girl who performed at the orange bowl), and this record is worth every penny, no matter what the price is. If you like nada surf's studio stuff (or any barsuk artist for that matter), you will definitely not be disappointed... this cd has not left my car's cd player in 2 weeks and it'll probably stay there for another couple of weeks. Simply amazing!

5-0 out of 5 stars You must buy this album. Now.
One of the best live albums that I have ever heard. This is a TRUE rock and roll band (with a bit of pop, house, grunge, punk, techno, and the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure) hitting on all cylinders. And what an engine it is - a V-16, at least, although the roar and fury of a dive-bombing Messerschmitt comes to mind. The power of this band is unbelievable - you must purchase this CD to hear what a full-throttle sonic assault sounds like. This is not to say that it is just noise - on the contrary, the musicality of this band at this amped up volume is what amazes. Screamadelics, purchase early and often. You will not be disappointed. Those just learning about this amazing band would do well to begin here, just to get a sense of the awesome power that this group can unleash at will. Devastating! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Driving Music ! -Just Don't Get A Speeding Ticket !
I discovered the music of Iggy Pop about 6 years ago when I first listened to the Stooges' album Fun House. After listening to the first three songs on that album, I was hooked. After buying Fun House, I soon followed by purchasing The Stooges, and then, Raw Power. Later, I moved on to Iggy's solo stuff, The Idiot, Lust for Life, etc. All of these albums were great! While listening to all of this great music, I couldn't believe that I hadn't known about it before. Iggy was and still is all about singing hard-charging, powerful, in-your-face music that completely rocks. But aside from all of this, Iggy's reputation as a live performer is legendary. I am a huge fan of energetic frontmen in music and Iggy definitely fits the bill. He's actually LIVED the decadence he sings about and he does it with the energy of a wild animal. Unfortunately, I never had the good fortune to hear Iggy perform live, until I bought this album.

I am always careful when buying live recordings, but given it was Iggy, I thought I would take a shot. This album, as it turns out, is great. It is Iggy's concert recorded by King Biscuit Flower Hour on July 19, 1988 at The Channel in Boston. The sound quality is excellent, the setlist is solid and Iggy and his band are in top form. As he says in one of his between-song dialogues, "We're just gonna rock it straight tonight!" and that's exactly what he does! The songs really move right from the opening track, "Instinct", and continue all the way to the closing track, a great version of "I Wanna Be Your Dog". As the title of this article suggests, this CD makes for great driving music. In fact, I liked this album so much, I bought King Biscuit's other Iggy Pop concert, Live in NYC, a 1986 show from the Ritz in NYC. If you like this album, check out Live in NYC, which is equally great and contains a great version of "Real Wild Child". Thank you for the music and honesty Iggy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock It Down
This is a great record! I first heard this on the King Biscuit Flower Hour in 1997 while going through HARD times. I hadn't listened to anything in about a year and had sold off my record collection and pawned my stereo. I couldn't believe how good it sounded. I finally bought it after it was released officially and it continues to blow my mind every time I hear it. There is no holding back on this album. The musicians are in fine form, and the guitarist, Andy McCoy, is otherworldly, perhaps in more ways than one! A great follow up to this album is the book written about this tour by bassist Alvin Gibbs entitled "Neighborhood Threat: On Tour With Iggy Pop." According to Gibbs, this isn't even one of the better shows from the tour. This is hard rock at it's finest, and Iggy proves that there was life in '80s, and rock before grunge!

4-0 out of 5 stars "Neighborhood Threat" in Action
The fine book "Neighborhood Threat," an account of life on the road with Iggy in 1988-89, is personified here. Iggy, married and civilized but still savage, goes on tour with a fine band--and rips up just about every gig with a power not seen in years. This being the Instinct tour, songs from that album are liberally represented. "High on You" is a pure assault; the title track kills; and "Cold Metal" and "Squarehead" are slaps to convention. The Stooges' stuff is not forgotten. "1969" and "1970" are thrown around nicely, and Iggy still demands to be our dog. As live gigs go, this is a fine example.

5-0 out of 5 stars Utter Mayhem!
This album rocks, totally no BS. I bought this used and listened to it once and put it away. Later on (about a year!) I was going through some hard times and pulled it out while looking for something to motivate me which I could relate to. I was totally floored!! The energy is unbelievable and it goes to show that Iggy is the godfather of punk. I now realize that Rollins, Manson and all the rest learned a great deal from this much underrated and talented rock icon!! I now own a good percentage of this guys catalog, having moved on to the Stooges and reveling in "Beat em Up." Iggy just keeps going and going and going. Rock lives!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Live Recording at the top of his form
I was at the Channel in Boston for this concert and I still believe it's the greatest show I've ever seen (and I've seen alot of shows). Mr. Pop was in rare form that evening as the sonic wall of noise (music?) on this disc shows. He was early 40's then and he taught some of the young turks playing with him what it's really all about. Picture Iggy hanging upside down from a pipe in the ceiling, swinging like a baboon, sweat pouring off him and you, air so hot that steam is rising from the crowd, and the man is belting out "I WISH LIFE COULD BE SWEDISH MAGAZINES".

I do too Iggy, I do too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars relevant irrelevance
simply put...dks at their best. the band thrashes, the crowd is pumped, & jello mixes political pokes w/ irrelevant jabber. some classic lines in this one, like "...this one's for the blind hitler-saluter's...ill in the head". also, a great cover of "viva las vegas". personally, i don't think it gets much better than the dks rippin "holiday in cambodia". WARNING: PLAYING THIS ALBUM IN YOUR CAR MAY RESULT IN SPEEDING VIOLATIONS! PLAYING THIS ALBUM IN YOUR ROOM MAY RESULT IN BROKEN ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT! if you like the dks, you probably have this already, but if you never heard a dk song before, this is a great album to get you into the band. buy it, burn it, steal it, borrow it...just get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars They could play a bit
The original DKs at last sounding as if they can play...which they always could. A great lost gem and fxxxxg brilliant in the car!! Ive just seen the fake Dks twice in Scotland and they were also brilliant as they slowed the songs down from the 80s thrashy political hardcore to their original speed.(and power)

The greatest band ever....

5-0 out of 5 stars Glorious punk from the past, despite the current acrimony
This is a great CD, which is important to say right up front. If it weren't for the lawsuit between Jello and the rest of the former DK's there would not be any controversy over this recording. Despite the ugliness of that legal battle (irrespective of which side you plant yourself), this CD delievers where MANY 20+ year old recordings do not. It simply sounds great, a not so inconsequential achievement for a punk recording given the paucity of both funds and quality recording equipment typically available to such bands at that time. In addition, there are several unreleased songs on this recording (most notably "Gaslight," which is great) and Jello is in rare form. Sure, there are a few glitches in the performance (there always will be in "true" live recordings; note: Performance glitches, not recording), but this is the last show with 6025, so c'mon! stop with the punk posturing and just enjoy this CD for the rare document that it is. In my opinion, this recording is better than the "Mutiny on the bay" recording, which is also great despite the mudraking that also surrounded it's release. Bands like this do not exist anymore and any bootleg of the Kennedys that you can get your hands on will not come close to touching the quality of this disc. A disco version of "Kill the poor" an early version of "When you get drafted" (Back in Rhodesia) and a cover of the Honeycomb's "Have I the right" make this an essential document that you'd be a fool to miss

5-0 out of 5 stars This is great!
This cd sounds like it was performed practically yesterday and it' well over 20 years old! Others may disagree, but I enjoyed hearing the old songs (with 5 members). Some of their later stuff was good but lacked the rage of the first two albums. There is even some Jello banter between songs- live DK isn't the same without it. DK fans should own this cd. Even if you don't like the set list, it's at least a great piece of DK and punk history.

2-0 out of 5 stars What's the point?
If you have "Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death" and "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" you pretty much have everything on here. "Gaslight" is okay, but it's not worth buying a CD for. Maybe it'll wind up on a bootleg 45 like "Cold Fish" did, but it's not that thrilling anyway. Neither are the covers. It's not really fair how much the remaining DKs have been demonized in the scene, but then again, putting out junk like this and the "Lost Tapes" DVD isn't helping their cause any. Hey, how about writing new songs? Maybe they could drop the nostalgia tour, change their name to The Iraqi Scientists or something and try to be interesting or original again. But, this CD is just plain boring. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost renders "Stedy On" obsolete!
"Live '88" was the cassette tape that Shawn Colvin used to sell at her live shows before she landed a recording contract with Sony. It features eight of the ten songs that wound up on her fine debut album "Steady On," and when it finally saw a CD issue in 1995, it all but rendered that album obsolete.

The reason is fairly simple. The presentation on "Live '88" better fits that songs than the studio production of "Steady On." Here Shawn is accompanied by just her remarkable voice and her acoustic guitar. Call it Shawn Unplugged if you will.

As good as "Steady On" is, this is the CD on which you should hear these songs. The lone exception to the above rule is "Another Long One" which does benefit from the "pie tin" sounding production given it on "Steady On."

So, I guess the solution is to get "Live '88" first, and get "Steady On" when you can. Not only does "Live '88" have the superior version of these great songs, but it also has a breathtaking cover of Paul Simon's "Kathy's Song." Even if it were the only decent cut on the album, "Live '88" would still be worth getting for it alone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost renders "Steady On" obsolete!

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotion and Earthly Beauty
Having known Shawn Colvin just from her overplayed studio efforts, I was unprepared for this album, which not only approaches but achieves true greatness. She should NEVER return to the studio, given the capabilities on display here: a voice of lyrical sweetness and flawless intonation, perfectly integrated guitar playing of great imagination, and song-writing capabilities that are, if not exactly on the Joni Mitchell level (whose are?), impressively mature.

Oddly enough, the true stand-out here is a version of Simon and Garfunkel's "Kathy' Song" which, if it doesn't cause you to tear up, you're some sort of heartless automaton. There isn't a weak track on the album, and repeated hearings leave one with an odd hybrid of awe and love. One can only wish she'll see fit to record in this manner again. Very highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate "girl-and-a-guitar" album -- buy it immediately
Prior to purchasing this CD, I was a lukewarm Shawn Colvin listener. Basically, I knew her from "Sunny Came Home" and "Polaroids", and although I liked her, I wasn't in a rush to buy her discography. Then I stumbled on an Amazon review titled "Renders Steady On Obsolete" or something like that. It was such a rave that I purchased "Live 88" -- NOW I'M A RAVING SHAWN COLVIN FAN! All that the aforementioned reviewer said is true, plus this: While Shawn Colvin isn't the guitar virtuoso of a Patty Larkin or the songwriting genius of a Dar Williams, this album will blow you away as much as Patty or Dar ever did. The "unplugged" format showcases Shawn's voice, which is heart-rending on "Shotgun Down the Avalanche" when she sings "I will raise up my voice/Into the void/For you have left me nowhere to go". If that doesn't raise the hairs on the back of your neck, demand your money back! "Kathy's Song" is a fave, and even though I recognize that the lyrics of "I Don't Know Why" are a bit trite, I still mist up when she sings "And everytime that you look that way/I would lay down my life for you". If you're ever forced onto a desert island with a solar-powered CD player, be sure to take this one. Ten years (and one bad sunburn) later, you'll still be happy with your choice!

5-0 out of 5 stars Shawn Colvin signing live: why listen to her any other way?
There are some artists where hearing them sing their songs with just a guitar is not just a treat, it is the preferred mode of listening. My contention would be that Shawn Colvin is just such a singer. All you have to do to acknowledge the point is to listen to the first two tracks on his album, "Diamond in the Rough" and "Shotgun Down The Avalanche," and compare the "Live '88" versions with the originals on "Steady On." That should prove the case. This album contains a nice mix of songs written by Colvin along, as well as with her songwriting partner and producer, John Leventhal. My only complaint, albiet a minor one, is that there is only one cover song, Paul Simon's "Kathy's Song." Fortunately, Colvin has an album of cover songs.

Even with the publicity of her Grammy award-winning "Sunny Came Home" and her touring with the first summer of Lilith Fair, Shawn Colvin remains more of a cult figure in terms of both her reputation and the affection of her audience for her work. She is one of those artists that you can get people hooked on quite easily. "Live '88" is not the first Shawn Colvin album you would want to listen to, but it will become one of your favorites. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Some of it barely sounds like polka
Some of the album has a definite polka sound, but a few tracks have such a heavy rock influence it doesn't barely sound like polka at all. "Come Back to Me" and "Pretty Dancing Girl" are examples, and two fine songs. The "Polka Medley" is great. I wish they would do some of those songs individually. Some of the record even sounds vaguely like ska music. I would highly recommend this to any younger listener of polka, and anyone who likes to dance polka. It may even appeal to some listeners of lighter core ska.

4-0 out of 5 stars The future of modern polka music.
This is a fine example of a robust live performance by a superb, energetic modern polka band. Renditions of the High Bounce Polka and the Peanuts Polka are true classics in the fast tempo "Eastern Style" of polka. This collection could possibly be the best example in its appeal to the modern polka listener of the future. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pearl Jam and Perth
I was at the Perth, Western Australia concert and it was fantastic. If you werent there then this album is obviously the next best thing. Great vibes (and a great city!)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great but not the best.
I am a huge Pearl Jam Fan and own many of the bootlegs. This one is good, but not great. There are some sections where the band and Eddie just seem out of it, like "Do the Evolution". Eddie forgets his own song. Perhaps it is the wine talking...lol.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not A Bad Ending
I've listened to a few of these Pearl Jam live CDs and I have to say that I think this is the best I've heard. For the most part the audio only seems to strip the passion that would make attending the concert so entertaining and leaves the listener with a mostly flat souding performance. Where this comes alive though is with the encores. During the first encore Vedder says the band is going to perform something not on the set list. That song along with a sing along, a few covers and Johnny Marr pitching in on the last track make the end worth listening to.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 stars (but in my mind, worth every bit of money)
Due to a fractured ankle, I am currently confined at home on medical leave. The beauty to that is that other than wine and cigars, I've had a chance to revisit my entire Pearl Jam collection.

I am a big Pearl Jam fan and have all their studio alblums, and all 25 boots of their European 2000 series.

Having listened to these again, I can't believe how good a studio band Pearl Jam is, but more amazingly so, how great a live band they are. In my mind, a live boot from Pearl Jam is always worth the money, and my listening ratio of live boots to studio albums is about 6:1.

Perth Australia is the only boot I have of Pearl Jam's 2003 tour series. Pearl Jam's boots are hard to come by in Singapore where I live.

I rate it 4 stars.

It is not great (but my standard for rating Pearl Jam is ridiculously high as these guys are just so good!), but very good --- good enough for me to want to lay my hands on every 2003 Pearl Jam boot that they release and which I can find.

In fact, after re-listening to my European 2000 boots and this Perth Australia boot, I have re-energised my commitment to purchase, own, and enjoy every bootleg that Pearl Jam releases.

Having read the roaring reviews of hard-core Pearl Jam fans for the boots from State College and Mansfield, I can immediately tell you that if you only want to buy the best 2003 boots, then just go for these 2.

If, however, you're like me, who is an avid collector and fan, and who is able to thereby find beauty in every concert CD that Pearl Jam plays on, then you will also want to get this to complete your 2003 bootleg collection.

All in all, Perth Australia is a very solid concert, with strong enthusiastic performances from all band members.

Had the set list been longer, and if the band had played in a tighter, more vicious and desperate style (which I particularly like), it will have warranted 5-stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Official Bootlegs, The Oxymoron that Makes Pearl Jam Amazing
A few years back, one of the members of Pearl Jam walked into a record store to find one of their concerts on a bootleg that was priced at an atrocious [price]. They then decided, whether it made money or not, that they would release all of their concerts from the 2000 World Tour on CD and price them affordably. This translated to over 70 double CDs and one three disk, "Official Bootleg." They set a Billboard record for having 6 of these sets on the top 100 albums at once.

They have again decided to produce their tour in this way; this time on a much smaller scale. This show in Perth, Australia is one of two set for mass release from the overseas leg of the tour.

They play a lot of new material from "Riot Act" and quite a bit that is off of their previous records. They also drop a few tracks from their "unreleased" catalog, and even a few covers (a pearl jam staple).

The highlights are many. They play the almost forgotten: "Jeremy." It sounded great. The hits are all there save for "Black" & "Dissident." Victoria Williams' "Crazy Mary" is always a treat.

Overall, this is one of the best bootlegs released thus far. They play a healthy mix from all of the albums. . . It is rather amazing trip into the past of this iconic rock group.

They play old songs from the time of the Velvet Underground, of course with new arrangement, as well as newer material. I especially like „Sweet Jane", „I'm Waiting For The Man", „Betrayed", „Walk On The Wild Side" and „Rock And Roll". Elvis Costello has always had great taste in guitar players, from his early devotion to Wes Montgomery to his frequent use of Marc Ribot, while Bill Frisell has shown a special empathy for Costello's songwriting on The Sweetest Punch, his instrumental cover of Costello's collaboration with Burt Bacharach. This barebones duet meeting with Costello singing to just the accompaniment of Frisell's guitar comes from a 1995 London performance. Charles Mingus's "Weird Nightmare," with the composer's own lyric, is a moody, dissonant minor piece that establishes a common ground and sets one of the tones for the performance. While Costello's songs may sometimes be bleak, they're also driven by a reality principle with a sense of accomplishment in their own hard-won experience. Frisell is an excellent partner for him, creating a densely resonant atmosphere that stages and echoes the often haunted, memory-filled lyrics. The guitarist picks up on the singer's every vocal nuance, too, expanding on his complex moods and lifting every rising melodic line with his own sense of light. Songs like "Shamed Into Love" almost glitter with Frisell's serene and trebly arpeggios, and Lerner and Loewe's "Gigi" grows from an initial sense of loss to genuine wonder. The collaborative "Deep Dead Blue," with Frisell's compositional input, has an intriguing, almost fragmented structure. --Stuart Broomer ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Intimate
Close your eyes. On the left of the stage sits Elvis Costello, geeky glasses, geeky smile, a microphone in his hand. On the right, Bill Frisell sits on the edge of a little Fender amp, rocking gently, picking his guitar in only the way he can.

While the audience applause in between each of the tracks on this album leads me to believe the setting was not quite as small as I like to imagine it, my imagination still beats out my reason. And that's what makes listening to this record so exciting. Clocking in at under twenty-seven minutes, and costing over twenty dollars, I had to wonder if this was worth the money. After it sat on my "To Buy" list for a few months, I decided to just spring for it.

I waited until, given what I'd read about the album and what I've already heard from Costello and Frisell as artists on their own, I thought the timing was right. It was a late night in November, sort of chilly outside. I wrapped up in a favorite blanket and listened to the album.

The album begins with "Weird Nightmare," an obscure Charles Mingus composition. Costello's voice is haunting when paired with Frisell's sparse lines, and Mingus' creepy lyrics bring out the best in both musicians. The tone is similar through the next three (two written by Costello, one a Lerner & Loewe standard) before picking the mood up considerably on "Poor Napoleon." Though it was originally recorded for Costello's "Blood & Chocolate," it is rerecorded here to a very effective end. Costello's voice is dead on, and (once again) perfectly matched to Frisell's one of a kind style.

This is music that needs to be heard. The next time you're lonely, pour yourself a glass of red (or two), light up a Lucky Strike, and curl up with a blanket. These twenty-seven minutes might not make you feel entirely better, but they'll certainly make you feel comforted.

5-0 out of 5 stars 2for2
live at the meltdown is truely one amazing piece of music. the pairing of elvis and bill was nothng short of genuis!! whether they are doing costello's "lovefield" or a mingus song "wierd nightmare" or the odd pair of writes (cait o'riordan/mac manus)"baby plays around" this CD offers nothing but talent from beginning to end. and i for one love elvis's voice

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting combination!!
Costello and Frisell happen to be two of my favorite artists. I had no idea that this album existed--I happened to stumble upon it one day while browsing through Amazon.com. I think they compliment each other pretty well. I particularly like the rendition of 'Baby Plays Around,' a gem from Costello's 'Spike' album that unfortunately often gets overlooked. The album has excellent sound quality. Fans of Costello and/or Frisell will dig this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible sound for only vocals and guitar
When most people think of New Wave, good singers is probably not the first thing to come to mind, heh if not the last. However, Elvis Costello is one of the few New wave artists to have a simply amazing voice and it is never more evident than on this CD. With only guitar and vocals, the CD seems like it would be empty sounding, but instead it is just the opposite, creating a full lush sound that would actually be hurt by the addition of louder, more crash instruments like drums or bass. Bill Frisell's guitar work lies somewhere between the piano style of Eric Satae and the ambient experimentation of Fripp/Eno bridging the gap between minimalism and ambience to create a smooth, flowing wave of notes that wash over the listener. Costello then softly croons over frisell's work in incredible vocal range going from a gentle whisper to a full falsetto. The subtelty and brilliance of this album is breathtaking and the depth and beauty they can create with only 2 instruments at their disposal is more than impressive. Apart from the music, the sound is A+ quality for a live release and allows every note to remain intact in a concert that truly relies on the important of each and every sound. Finally, clocking in at only about 30 minutes, the CD ends without becoming repetative or boring, which eventually would be inevitable using only 2 instruments, simply leaving the content listener with a nice, concise batch of love songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exquisite MacManus/Frisell
I must say this is a delightful cd... only if you are an open-minded listener. I thought every Costello or Frisell fan was such kind of person. Should I say that through the years I realize I was mistaken? I guess both Costello and Frisell ask for the same musical curiosity (or, lets say it: heterodox musical erudition) from the listeners than the one that obsessed them all the way; that is: their opening to different styles in music is not the attitude of a snob --is the rejoice of a musician who let him be surprised by the "new values" as well as by the traditions of their roots. That is the only way you can enjoy this cd: let you be driven into the subtle complexity of Frisell's guitar on "Love Field" and "Poor Napoleon", two underrated masterpieces written by Costello, who sings them as if he had learned the best of Sinatra's or Bennett's style (but remaining himself); or dive for that rare jewel that is "Shamed into Love" just to merge full of charity and self-consciousness; or re-read the Lerner and Loewe classic "Gigi" and realize that every thirty/fourty-some guy is a nowadays Louis Jourdan character is this XXI century world. Of course, there is more: you have "the taste of beauty" (that already was on "Spike") with "Baby Plays Around"; the rare Mingus song facing a darkness that's always lighten; and the original "Deep Dead Blue" version with its real "deep-end" approach, that breathless feeling of ephimeral marvel, that sort-of-satori revelation that can only be captured when a sublime songwriter (and very personal singer --I must admit: the kind of singer I prefer: honest and imperfect like the glimpse of a truth) and a talented musician, both of them as open-minded as faithful to themselves, work together for an open-minded listener with a wide open and sensitive soul. (By the way, excuse me for my English --it is not my everyday language). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice
This is a very nice little package, but unfortionately for those of you who have to import it, it looks as though it's a rather expensive buy.
The thing is that here in Australia, it's the same price as any other album and you still get the full package, so it really makes it an excellent investment.
Anyway...the show is fantastic, the band's stage presence is very vibrant and the performances are tighter than ever. There's some fun little twists on select songs such as "The Door," Emotion Sickness," "The Lever" and a few more I think? Daniel Johns is a natural stage performer and frontman, using his playful ways to enhance the vocal and guitar performances.

This is just a really cool thing to watch or listen to, but I definately prefer to watch it!

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this cd/dvd
I bought my live from faraway stables from the silverchair website, and i didn't have to pay any shipping (even though it was all the way from AUSTRALIA!!!) and it was actually cheaper than it is on this site. all i can say is that this is an amazing cd. the dvd is awesome to watch (just make sure that you buy the correct zone). the songs on it are great and they even have the b-side "Asylum" which is a beautiful song. BUY IT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!
I'm so happy Silverchair has finally decided to do a live album. From start to finish this package is pure genius. From the beautiful After All These Years to the funk rock of The Lever it's an incredible concert. The album is divided into sets and it really incapturates both sides of silverchair as Daniel puts it.

A few weakness I've noticed with this album, however is that Daniel's guitar tends to be really low at times espicailly on Emotion Sickness. I'm surprised the orchastration is very high becuase Daniel always said that he didn't like overdubs.

Highlights of the DVD and the entire tour for me were the funked up versions of The Door, Anthem For The Year 2000 and The Lever.

If you enjoy Silverchair and appreciate their musical diversity then this package is perfect.

4-0 out of 5 stars Different impression following this CD
I've always loved Silverchair. I have all of their albums, and consider myself a big fan, but I'd never heard them live until I picked up a copy of this CD set.

Daniel Johns steals this show. He's quite a good singer live. His voice stays strong throughout, and it's studio quality. His range is wonderful. He hits all of the highs and lows to perfection. Not only that, but Daniel is very good at talking to the crowd. In "Anthem for the Year 2000", he screams at the crowd, ordering them to sing along, and said a few very funny things that I didn't think he had within him. I see the frail guy with the pretty face, but never knew what he was all about. His stage presence is very strong, and he seems like a really cool guy.

I learned a lot by listening to the CD, and I urge any Silverchair fan to check it out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
I had the pleasure of receiving Live From Faraway Stables (2 Disc CD and 2 DVD (which i can't see))a few weeks ago (imported from Australia) and all i can say is WOW. I had a chance of catching them earlier this year at their LA shows and while I thought those were amazing shows, it was not until i heard this that i realized how awesome their Australian hometown leg of the "Across the Night" tour was. Split into two Acts (a lighter, more experimental Act I and a harder Act II), this show has an incredible set list with new twists and turns in their more popular songs, as well as the incorporation of a few of their other songs which haven't been performed live before such as petrol and chlorine (one of my favs). OK, here we go:

ACT I

1. Overture - Act 1 : A short intro to the concert with the orchestrations from across the night.
2. After All These Years : Surprising way to begin the concert, but Daniel's vocals and piano work are amazing here.
3. World Upon Your Shoulders : This was my favorite song on Diorama. The dreamlike introduction to it sets the tone to a great song.
4. Tuna In The Brine : Very nice performance. I thought the playback of recorded orchestrations would be a bit cheesy, but it works really well. The vocals suffer a little but it's highly justifiable.
5. Luv Your Life : Not a favorite song of mine, but it's performed nicely. Pretty much a straight album to stage reproduction.
6. Paint Pastel Princess : Sounding as great as it was during the Neon Ballroom era. I really loved this song live. Daniel's guitar work is as great as it ever was.
7. Petrol & Chlorine : I've always wanted to hear this song live. It's one of the best tracks on freakshow that sounded to me, diorama worthy. The sitar really adds to it and it's a shame they don't play it live often.
8. Across The Night : Much like tuna in the brine, daniel's on guitar, which is kind of overpowered by the orchestrations. He really pushes his vocals to do the song well.
9. Ana's Song : The BEST live version of Ana's song i've ever heard. A really awesome intro and first third of the song leads to an awesome finish. Must hear!
10. Miss You Love : Pretty much the same as i've always heard it live. Daniel's vocals are alright here. I love the solo though.
11. Steam Will Rise : Awesome FUNKED-UP 9min+ version of steam will rise with a really cool extended guitar/drum bit in the middle. Great end to ACT I.

ACT II

12. Overture - Act 2 : Really interesting Piano intro to Emotion sickness enhances the whole feel of the song.
13. Emotion Sickness : WOW. Amazing. Extended version of emotion sickness that's over 10min long. Really epic. There's also a really stirring guitar bit in it and it's probably the most intense performance of the whole show.
14. Without You : This is one of the very few songs where i don't think it can be done as well live. The album version is incredible and while live it's also really good, daniel just can't hit the vocals like he does on the album. Great instrument work though.
15. Israel's Son : I didn't really expect this during the show, but bringing back an old hit was an awesome choice by silverchair. The intro is longer and the whole song just rocks harder than it ever has.
16. Black Tangled Heart : Another awesome song that isn't performed live. It's good daniel told everyone to take a seat for it, coz it's one of those songs you just sit back and take in.
17. Do You Feel The Same : Underrated Neon Ballroom song that was also cool to hear live. I love the guitar bit in it. Really awesome rock song.
18. Greatest View : Diorama's first hit. It sounds really good live, and with the addition of the brass really gives this performance a KICK! Love it.
19. Door : Oh My God! I wasn't prepared for this. A few minutes into the door, it takes a turn for the wicked! They turn it into a funktastic little jam session with daniel performing like a true rock star and throwing in an interesting little dialogue.
20. Freak : Crowd pleaser! From the beginning to the end, this is the best version of freak i've heard since rock in rio (which i loved!). You really get a sense of the whole show when the music cuts and the crowd screams out the infamous "body and soul, i'm a freak" line.
21. Anthem For The Year 2000 : I love this song live too. What makes this performance awesome is that the crowd really gets into it and yells out the chants. I haven't seen the dvd yet but i heard that on the monitors, they had images of war and such playing while daniel preached to the crowd about taking charge. Awesome.
22. One Way Mule : One of the rockier songs from Diorama makes a kickazz live song. Perhaps the organ in the background wasn't needed, but this song holds its own with the kicking hook and Daniel's voice.
23. Asylum : An incredible b-side off of diorama (not sure why it didn't make the cut). As an encore, Daniel dedicates it to his brother. Overall it's a good performance, but daniel's decision to go all out with the vocals towards the end hurts the performance a bit.
24. Lever : Surprise! What starts off as an awesome/hard rocking performance of Lever turns into an incredible 13 minute crazy cool music session with Daniel going crazy with his guitar and running his mouth like a semi-sedated wrestler. A great end to the show!

OVERALL, i have to give this 5 stars. I've been to many concerts in the past years, and none i've seen recently puts as much emotion and atmosphere into it as silverchair does on this live set. The fact that the whole show is recorded/edited so well makes it feel like you're there. It's all as clear as heck and I can't wait to watch the DVD.

I believe Silverchair are one of the most underrated bands (cept in AUstralia), and it's a shame they only had a handful of shows in the states this year. However, i suggest that anyone really into silverchair or even just getting into silverchair check this out so you can see how incredible live they are. Their musical talent and evolution over the years is truly inspiring and this set shows their desire to enhance the music experience and add to what their studio albums bring. Sheeeesh, can it get any better? ... Read more

Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. Pearl Jam was in a pretty fun mood for this show, which was the first in the third leg of the 2000 tour. They were surely happy to be on the road again after taking a few weeks off. The problem was they were so happy that they almost forgot to put on a good show. This bootleg is not a dud by any means, but the band is really goofing off, which does does not make this one a good representative of the series. Eddie Vedder is really slacking off on the lyrics, as if he doesn't want to take the effort to remember some of them. In several places he just mumbles or giggles instead. Mike McCready is really in a wild mood, turning up the jams and obscure riffage references. Dig Mike's noodling on some Rush riffs in between tracks (a bonus for the Canadian fans, but Rush is from Toronto anyway). Unfortunately, Mike's extra jamming doesn't really improve the songs as usual, and it just sounds like he's goofing around like everyone else. This show is saved from oblivion by an intriguing set list, with some relative tour rarities like "Gods' Dice," "Pilate," "I Got (...)," and "Off He Goes" thrown in to keep things interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite CD
This is the first Pearl Jam CD that I ever bought, but as soon as I listened to it all the way through, I fell in love with the band. The band hasn't played in a while, and Eddie says, "Its wierd to be surrounded by so many people, but if feels good." And Pearl Jam sure gave one hell of a performance. You don't have to get this one, but get at least one of the live cds, you won't regret it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great show for real Pearl Jam fans
This show was awesome, but you really have to love Pearl Jam to appreciate it, because they don't play the big hits like Jeremy, Alive, Black or Daughter. However, they play great songs like Wishlist, Light years or Last kiss wonderfully. I also saw this show and I loved it. It was one of the greatest shows I've seen. They were awesome on stage, maybe because it was the first show of the second part of the tour. They hadn't played in three weeks and it showed. They were on fire! If you are a real Pearl Jam fan, you will love this cd. ... Read more

Pearl Jam's unprecedented documentation of their Europe 2000 tour hasdone more than offer their fans an affordable alternative to music pirates; iteffectively ensures their stature as one of rock's greatest live acts. Recordedbefore an unusually ecstatic audience at Milan's Fila Forum, the album finds theband playing off the crowd's good vibe with wild, sometimes antic abandon.Building from one of the tour's favored openers,Binaural's "Of the Girl," withthe crowd hanging on every word, the vibe grows as the crowd joins in on "SmallTown" and a number of others. The band seems unusually energetic, with MikeMcready repeatedly giving in to the temptation to make like a soaring guitargod. Eddie Vedder introduces a driving version of "MFC" fromYield by telling the crowd thathe wrote it in Italy after falling in love there. "But," he notes, "she had fourwheels and was called a Mini." A great feel-good show from a band once notoriousfor its dour shoe gazing--maybe it really is the dawn of a new millennium.--Jerry McCulley ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Rock at it's best.
In an age of cookie cutter rap-rock groups and dance/pop, pure rock is becoming a hidden treasure. It is great that Pearl Jam decided to release their European Tour on cd's so that the masses can enjoy a live band that actually cleanses your heart and soul. Despite the lack of critical success with their latest album, "Binaural", it stands in a series of cd's of musical development by this powerful band and is matched against familar classics in this performance.-----Standouts of this cd include a jamming intro with "Of The Girl", a pumping fast "Animal", an awesome extended solo on "Even Flow", dumb story about "MFC", including the rarely played "Jeremy", "Sleight of Hand", and "Garden". It also has Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World". The band hits its peaks in tracks 8-12 on cd 1, and tracks 2-6 on cd 2. The problems are including "Smile", and "Do The Evolution". This cd also includes the most personaly influential song to me "Present Tense".----Get this cd and you can't be disappointed, and to the rap-rockers out there--you will be introduced into a wonderful world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pearl Jam At Their Best
Having listened to a majority of these "Bootleg" albums so far, I'd have to say that this is the best one. The Italian crowd seems to be very excited as they sing along loudly to most of the group's classics. The band seems to be at thier peak also. After playing 'Wishlist', Ed proclaims that it was the best time they played the song.

The album is also very well balanced. Along with staples like 'Jeremy' and 'Betterman', they throw in some lesser known tunes like 'Smile' and 'State of Love and Trust' to make everything flow very well. In my opinion, the best song that they played was 'rearviewmirror'. I never really liked it much until I heard this version. It really whips you into a frenzy. At the end you feel warn out from all the energy the music gives out. They also perform a worthy cover of Neil Young's 'Rockin in the Free World'. There are a few slip-ups here and there, but that's what makes this album (or any of the others) great. It hasn't been polished or glossied-over. It's raw, stripped to the bone, and pure. This is Pearl Jam at their best.

3-0 out of 5 stars You have to be a real Pearl Jam fan-atic!
I had a few free CDs to redeem at Columbia House and this was available as a free selection.
I like their studio albums, although the latter ones can't seem to grab me that much. They're a bit boring, there's nothing new, nothing exciting on them.
I did actually promote some of their shows in Eastern Europe in 1996 and 1998. I liked them live. This is the only CD I've heard from all of the concert recordings that they've kept releasing in the last two years. I don't like it.
The sound quality is poor. Somehow, if you're not there, it doesn't give you back the energy that comes off stage. It seems boring. I can't really explain this. Something was lacking. I think you really have to be a die-hard fanatic to buy any or all of these concert releases. I will give another one or two a try, but I really don't think they're going to be any better. I have serious problems with the mixing and the sound quality compared to other live recordings.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Extra Long and Extra Strong Performance
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. Not including the lengthy tour finale in Seattle, which contains a lot of extra stage talk, this show in Milan, Italy is the longest gig in the entire bootleg series, at a whopping two hours and twenty-five minutes, following another very long show in Verona the previous evening. Unlike some of the other very long shows in the series, the band actually manages to keep the intensity level up during the entire evening, and this show is a non-stop powerhouse. This is clearly one of the best shows of the European portion of the tour. Some highlights of the evening include punishing takes on the rarely performed rockers "Gods' Dice" and "Rival," a flawless performance of "Garden," which was mostly a disaster in its other European appearances, and probably the strongest and sharpest European takes on "MFC" and "Grievance." The band tackle some of the more challenging material from **No Code** and deliver tight performances of "Present Tense" and "Smile," strong tunes that are performed very rarely throughout the tour. Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" appears for just the third time to close the show in a climactic and convincing matter. Mike McCready and Stone Gossard are both especially strong this evening, and Eddie Vedder is in a weird mood, explaining the origin of "MFC" (a car he fell in lust with), and stating that the band didn't play Rome on this tour because the Pope won't leave. Take it easy there, big guy!

4-0 out of 5 stars i'd rather be in italy
i enjoy this performance of pearl jam in milano, italy on 22 June 2000. the crowd is all over this cd. and the band responds with an inspired show exuding energy. starting with a slow "of the girl", the crowd response is overwhelming for a quite frankly, underwhelming rendition. That all changes with "corduroy" as the band wakes up and goes full throttle. On "animal" Mr McCready goes guitar-gawd crazy. more amazing still is that the audience sings the words to all the songs. this is especially noticeable on "small town". "one, two ..." and Mr Vedder cues up the band, but it's the audience which is on cue with the first words of the song -- the choral continues on into the night. "evenflow" follows with solid riffing from Mr McCready, and quick jabs from Mr Gossard -- it helps that the mix favours them. The extended guitar & drum duet makes me wish it did not end so quickly. the band is now in overdrive with the crowd so palpable they appear as though they are on stage on "not for you". Mr Vedder introduces "mfc" with a love story. "present tense" seems to lose its way. "daughter" brings back audience participation. after the shades go down, the participation percipitates a call & response with Mr Vedder. against the usual convention, the crowd begins the exchange. Mr Belafonte's banana boat sneaks in, as well. After the "best singers in the world" help Mr Vedder with "nothingman", and again with "betterman" as the instruments fade into the background. "wishlist" is another crowd sing-along. "garden" and "black" betray a touch of weariness as the band takes a short break and the audience cries for more. another two songs "smile" and "rock'n in the free world" this is a great show, one I would have liked to been at. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars More Scrumptious than a five flavored snow cone!
This CD preserves for the annuls the tastiest of all pearl jams shows from 2000. If this recording were a Carvel Cake, it would be Fudgie the Whale (Tom Carvel's finest delight!). If you like sweets, this release is for you. Each track seems tighter, and more powerfull than its respective studio recording. Eddie vetter's vocals capture both the original intent of the songs, as well as the emotion which abounds upon breathing life into the same. It was upon hearing this recording that, for the first time, I truly understood "Yellow Ledbetter." Now, when I hear Vetter yelp out its name, I too am remorsefull of its bitter, and senseless journey from mere lemur, to king of the tree-tops. Perhaps the best track is P-Jam's cover of Prince's "Baba O'Riley" -- outstanding!!!

More impressive than the quality if the individual tunes is the theme presented by the compilation performed. Upon strict scrutiny, it became evident that the selection of songs chosen for this LP told a story. The story is this (as told by me in the third person): "Look! There go[es] Jeremy, off to see Babe O'Riley, and to scam on the elderly woman behind the counter in a small town. Yes, there he goes . . . I can see him from here, up high, in my tree. He's off to about-face this life of his, filled heretofore with monotony and insignificance. Looking back . . . simply black. But now, he's off to be a better man. Spiritual immortality awaits . . . so long as the old lady is receptive. Off he goes, smil[ing] all the while, like a yellow ledbetter. May he, however, find better for himself; may his fate shine brighter . . ."

BUY THIS CD, TODAY!!! Postscript: In Honor of this CD, I will be serving slices of Fudgie the Whale Cake from my ice cream truck throughout the Month of March. Be on the lookout for my mobile ice cream parlor up and down the east coast, including all major rest-stops off I-95. If you see me, and would like a slice of icecream cake, or any other of the assorted frozen treats served daily, stop me by yelling, "Hey, ice cream here!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Zeppelin Rules!
Rated the best of the three shows played at Jones Beach, day three has to be one of Pearl Jam's best shows of the first leg if not the entire tour. A long set with songs like Smile and two closers, Baba O'Riley and Yellow Ledbetter. Baba O'Riley is reason enough to purchase this cd set but an added treat to this concert is when Mike adds the intro to Zeppelin's Over The Hills And Far Away into the final set closing YL.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Code rocks
I bought this CD because I most likely will never see Pearl Jam live and wanted to hear what they sound like. It blew my away. This totally rocks, and as a special bonus, there are more songs from No Code (which IMO is their best work) than any other album. Worth the money I payed for it... the only personal favorites missing are "Daughter" and "Hail, Hail"

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Live CD
Got this on a whim after reading y'alls comments about it. I agree, it's terrific. For me, I saw the band live only once, in Jan. 1992 when they played a $5 show the Hollywood Palladium with Fugazi, L7, and Lunachicks. That show blew me away, especially after they took off into super-stardom. This show is very strong and enjoyable and showcases the band's terrific songbook over the last 10 years. Really great. Now if only I can get my hands on the Seattle and St. Louis shows.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pulling Out All the Stops for NYC
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. The Jones Beach location near New York City is the only spot on the 2000 world tour massive enough for three shows, and this bootleg covers the third and final performance. This gig is definitely one of the highlights of the tour and of the bootleg series. The band delivers a sterling, muscular performance of their best material, as well as several surprise numbers that do not appear very often in the tour. This show is unusually high on songs from the **No Code** album, and these are some of the most challenging of the group's numbers. Of special note are a crushing rendition of "Red Mosquito" in which Mike McCready blows your brains out with amazing slide work; while Matt Cameron gets to shine on "In My Tree," giving a more subtle and conventional reading than Jack Irons in the original. Other outstanding tracks here include "Immortality," "Present Tense," and "Smile" in which the band shines on these little-performed tunes. This gig was being broadcast live over a radio station, so Eddie Vedder avoids the potty-mouth this time around, but still addresses the crowd in his endearingly incoherent way. Pearl Jam has bared their souls to the world with this bootleg series, which contains some very embarrassing shows, as they can get careless, bored, and sloppy on some nights. But that doesn't apply to this show. This performance proves why they're one of the most popular and influential bands of the last ten years, and keeps on proving it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Live Material
Sister Midnight is one of the best live albums I've ever heard. I'm suprised it isnt more popular in the Iggy Pop catalogue. Iggy's voice is in great form, raw and raspy yet also soothing and seductive and the guitars are fuzzed out and reverberating all throughout. This performance of "Gimme Danger" I consider to be far superior to the Raw Power version, it just is bursting with a fierce energy and exhuberance that makes the original seem tame by comparison. Iggy's reputation has frequently been battered with drug and sex accusations but this live recording seems plagued by neither, the sound is great and his performance is simply raw and powerful. A must have if your an Iggy fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Iggy In Cleveland 77
I am a huge collector of iggy's music having this under a different title I took my chances and bought it again and was amazed at the sound quality. As far as live I would recommend this along with Hippodrome (Paris 77). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This shows what Everclear should sound like.
This is an expensive album, no matter where you look, and you only get eight songs, but its well worth it. Everclear sounds better live than they do on any of their albums, with the possible exception of "World of Noise". You don't get the total sence of energy they have at a live show, but you can see can hear it to a point. There is a great version of "Herion Girl" that sounds like the Eagles could have done. Local God also sounds great. Pick this album up if you want to know what Everclear should really sound like.

5-0 out of 5 stars 8 LIVE TRACKS! YAY!
This CD is great! I simply cannot say how great of a bandEverclear is. Obviously, you are debating purchasing it. Well, Iwould highly recommend it. There are no other Everclear Live CD's on the market that you will find (except for auctions, and some live tracks on singles), so if you would like 8 live recorded songs, this is for you. CD is approximately 30 minutes long.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just not a great live album
Live from Toronto is the only live everclear album. But as live albums go, this one is just plain bad.

Except for some crowd noise at the beginning and end of the tracks, each song sounds just about like studio version. Even the guitar solos are [bad], uninspired, and pretty much sound like the studio version as well. Nor is there any dialogue. Art says "hey this is the next single off our album," and "goodnight" at the end. That's it. In other words, unless you're just a die hard everclear fan, I wouldn't recommend live from toronto - this album doesn't offer anything new on everclear.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best rock band
everclear is very talented. there better than most of those grunge rock bands.there music talks about people and events and its not trash.the lead singer doesnt scream and u can hear what there saying.there music has a catching tune to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars everclear is great
i have seen everclear live 4 times in my life. they are a very talented band. I own 2 other everclear live cd's that are very rare. along with two videos of them live that are very rare. being that this is the only cd with any of there new stuff on it i say it is a definite buy. cuz i m still living with your... ...
